Seerah S4 E15 – The expedition of al Hudaybiyyah, Part Two

To be actions of intent whereby even innocent third parties would look at the scenario at hand and doubt the Muslims intentions, right? They were in the Haram. They had the animals marked for ritual sacrifice, and now they're changing the route. They're really trying to make this a successful, bloodless trip with no conflict. So the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam made this clear, as a leader to his people, so they understand as well. Now we learned two things from this. As I said, Sometimes we'll take things at the pitstop. And sometimes we will take things as we go with the flow because we don't want to forget the event that we derive the lessons from. So there's two things we learn from those brothers and sisters in Islam. Number one, how sanctified the holy lands are, how sanctified

the holy lands are, because it look the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam is talking about his dealing with isolators, the enemies of Allah. And he's saying that even though the enemies of Allah and the fighting Islam and the disturbing His Messenger sallallahu alayhi wasallam. Despite all of this, if they ask for something which is good and right, I will oblige. And this is teaching us how sanctified the holy lands are and how we should respect the sanctity of the holy lands and by doing so, we manifest taqwa and God righteousness, and our fear of the punishment of Allah subhanho wa Taala. And our love to be upon that which pleases Allah subhanho wa Taala. So this is number one.

Number two, we learn from this, and this is a follow on how possible it is for us to work with our enemies in that which is considered good and praiseworthy, as long as it's mandated by Islam. It's not good and praiseworthy, but Islam, told us that it's not praiseworthy, because, as we know, we have things that people consider good and praiseworthy via the intellect. Right? And that's fine, as long as it doesn't go against revelation. Now, if we consider something to be good and praiseworthy via intellect, but it goes against what is confirmed without doubt in Revelation, then, clearly, we need to follow that which is established in Revelation and leave that which the mind has concluded.

So the point is, if something if our enemies call us to work upon that which the Quran and the Sunnah in the first place calls us to work towards achieving that, even though they are our enemies in this matter, we can work together. And this is from the mouth of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam. We see the complexity of Islam, even though it's also simple brothers and sisters in Islam right. Now, in terms of the Quraysh, right, you can imagine, we've put all these measures in play, they've sent holiday Valley they've sent his men they well versed with the region, and Subhanallah, they quote, surprised, remember, when they went to Medina, the Prophet sallallahu, alayhi wasallam,

set up the trench at a place and he wasn't surprised by the Confederates Rather, he surprised to them. But with regards to this journey, he surprised the jury. So they are at a state of being overwhelmed. And they knew that they don't have time to get Khalid and his people back in case, you know, they took two arms, and a battle ensued here. And as you can see, the evidence shows that we're here for for pilgrimage,

we're here for nothing else, even the place that we landed at, you know, where Medina is, you know where we are. I mean, I'm paraphrasing, I'm bringing in context, right? We don't have a report that the prophets have

Allah Allah He was lm said this, but thinking about it right? If you, if you are presenting your situation to someone, then you bring all the facts to the table. So this person goes to the Quraysh. And he tells the Christ that look, they're here for pilgrimage. Right? They're not here for any, any bloodshed. So On what grounds are you going to prevent them from entering? Now, the Quraysh they themselves wanted to further verify this information. So a series of people from the allies have the courage and the courage, some from the 30 if some from Burkina they come and they go to the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, they approach the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam they're discussing

Sahil means easy. So, the Prophet sallallahu, alayhi wasallam made a play on his name, and he brought a message or an emotion and the sense of positivity to his people. So some sources say it was said here, and some sources say it was said when the courage actually sent him, sent him to negotiate the terms of the Treaty of of Allahu davia, which we will take inshallah, later on at the moment, no terms are being dictated, what is happening, authentication is happening, right.

And more was done really than required for authentication to happen from the side of the Quraysh. It could have been could have been time wasting, it could have been looking for any and every excuse to, you know, follow their desires with regards to the believers being there, and what they wanted to effect on to the Muslims, especially when they went to Medina during the expedition of the Confederates. Now, along with all of this, and this shows the dedication of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam, to the course, the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam was receiving their representatives, one after the other one after the other, but the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa

sallam felt that you know what we should send someone who represents us, an ambassador from us, to them as well. So the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam wanted to send someone to go to them and express firsthand you know, just in case, just in case that met you know, the the messages are being lost in translation, or For this reason, or the other, send someone from us as an ambassador to let them know specifically, exactly what is happening here. So the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, he sends her rush even omiya from the hoser to go to the koresh. Sometimes we think by doing this, we just look weak. We're making ourselves look weak. They're taking advantage of us now. Our Prophet of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam. Now, the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam wants to send another. So he chooses Emeryville. hapa but on the other hand, he says why don't we send you Why don't you go and express

Whenever they spoke, they spoke in a way that was solution based they would come with an alternative. And Omar suggested that Othman is the best person to go. Why? Because Omar says, I don't have a tribe that's going to protect me, you know, my situation with them after I became a

Muslim and, and how things went, but, man, he has a tribe who will will protect him they won't let anything happen to him. And the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam agreed, and with man, he goes now with mine heads now from her davia towards Mecca, and he reaches a place called belt. And at this place, some of the parades were there, and some of the noble men were there as well. And they asked him, What are you here for? What are you here for? What do you want? And he wrote the other one, he says, effectively, that the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam has sent me to call you to towhid, Masha, Allah, so he you know, he spoke to them about tawheed and they were not impressed at

all with what he had to say. So they told him the same thing that they were repeating with anyone who came back from their representatives, and anyone who the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam sent, they said, go back and tell the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, or the message was that the Muslims will never enter Mk. Okay, this was the message with their people. And with regards to the ambassador sent by the prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, this was the message you sent back.

But with man managed to get through Allah subhanho wa Taala blessed him by making a man by the name of a barely been studied a means for him. But with man refused, because he was under instruction by the prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam to do something, and now he had this ability he had this

you know, protection, that was time bound. He wanted to use his time wisely. So he thought now I'm done with these people, let me visit some of the Muslims that are stuck in,

in Mecca, I This will allow me to meet them and see the situation and inshallah will also be a means of giving them hope. So with man he goes and he meets the Muslims who are stuck there. And the Muslims tell, Othman to tell the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam that the one who brought him sallallahu alayhi wasallam to Abu Dhabi will bring him into Makkah, so they were sending back messages of hope Subhana Allah. Now, as can be seen brothers and sisters in Islam, the Quran are not interested. They're not interested in any pact in any treaty. They're not interested in allowing the Muslims any courtesy, they treating the club as their personal property. And they really come across

as aggressive like we want to fight and we don't care, we're ready to fight. Now, whilst this is happening in Makkah was Othman there and it was man trying in the courage being adamant.

Some sources of the Sierra say,

you know, some skirmishes took place where something was thrown from there into the Muslims and the Muslims threw something back and so on and so forth. But Allah subhanho wa Taala prevented anything from happening.

And amidst all this, rumors come to the Muslims that automatically offend has been killed. So Pamela, alright, so Pamela, now, a rumor like this is is a dangerous one brothers and sisters in Islam you can imagine. Right now, this event led to a famous

which Allah subhanho wa Taala tells us about in the Quran. When this news came to the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam that was a man who was killed.

The Prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam gathered the sahab.

Right, he gathered the Sahaba. And he says, Look, I'm asking from you a pledge. Right now, some sources say it was a pledge for patients and some sources say it was a pledge not to flee from the battlefield. But there's no contradiction here. You can say it was a pledge for patients and you need patients to go and, you know, attack Mecca. They know the sanctity of the Kaaba, they know the sanctity of the land, right. And these are the people at the end of the day at home, like a man breaks the bond of blood, the blend of faith beats the bond of blood. But in any case, human beings at different levels, they, they they require patience to deal with different sensitivities. So the

Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam is

asking them for a pledge of patience, and a pledge of not fleeing from the battlefield, that if you know, we go into this, we end

and so Han Allah when he makes this call,

the answer the companions answer, as they always did, except for one, except for one, right? It'll get even ice and the books of Sierra state that it was his hypocrisy that prevented him from answering. And remember, we always said that Allah shakes the earth beneath us. And in doing so, our personality falls and our character is exposed.

Now the companions took a pledge and as they they were always there with the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam submitting our command and we will obey and the sources in the Sunnah teachers that 1400 people approximately took this pledge and made this pledge with the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam. Right now Allah subhanho wa Taala revealed about this, Allah subhanho wa Taala revealed in sort of confetti in the levena you by your own occur in your belly your own Allah, Allah He FOCA ad him, Allah subhanho wa Taala said indeed those who pledged allegiance to you O Muhammad, they actually pledging allegiance to Allah. And Allah describes the circumstance they were under the shade of the tree, and they pledged this allegiance to the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, Allah subhanho wa Taala says, and he knew what was in their hearts, so Allah sent down tranquility upon them and rewarded them with an eminent conquest and this will be discussed later insha Allah as we go further down the track of the Sierra and then Allah subhanho wa Taala also say something which happened before that one Mohan him one Mahatma kathira hoonah kind of level, as he said, hekima Allah says, and much of the spoils of war which they will take from where

what happens this is a massive thing taking place. The courage has scouts, you can imagine watching and they seeing the Sahaba with intent, focusing on the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam and this that, you know, the shaking of allegiance is taking place so they can see that you know what it looks like they're getting ready to attack us.

It looks like it's enough.

You know, meaning that concept of enough is enough, right from the end. It's like sometimes what happens when you have a bully, right who's all who's all bark

No action, no ability to act upon it. And then when you you Be patient, you'll be patient and they bark and they bark and they bark and then what happens you turn around and you say, hey, enough is enough and what happens immediately you knock them back into their senses. And this is seemingly what happened with the crash. Because when it was taken when the news got to them, that it looks like the the Muslims are coming together to attack maca, and they've had enough Subhanallah they came to their senses in some capacity. You can only imagine they're probably thinking of whether what happened with better Allah help them, whatever without Allah help them. It almost turned. But

at the end of the day, you know, you know, you could only say maybe it was a draw. What happened with the Confederates, we went in an unprecedented way. And despite that the Muslims are here. And it looks like they want to attack us. So you can you can imagine what happens to the mindset of the noble men have the courage and they seemingly come to their senses and they agree to finally negotiate. Right? So remember, there's a lesson we can take from this and perhaps we'll discuss it in the pitstop so who do they send? Remember to hell? They send so Haley been amor, now Suhail. When the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam saw him coming. The Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam knew

that the Qureshi have changed the strategy. They definitely want a solution. They want a solution. They definitely want the solution. Why? Because Sohail was not like the rest of them. So he was cut from a different cloth. You could say he was from the leaders of the Quraysh. He was eloquent in speech. He was, he had astute political ability. He was intelligent. He was well mannered, he was cut from a different cloth. So when you sending him, you're looking for an outcome that's different to the outcome of war. You want a solution? Right? So look at how the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam is reading events, you can see the visionary mandate that he has and the leadership reality

that he possesses. salallahu alayhi wasallam. So he sees this, and he announces it, that verily the Quraysh want a truth, a truce by sending this man

and Subhanallah In the meantime, with mine arrived safely, which shows that

the rumors were false, and the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam saw an even greater reason to negotiate.

So negotiations happened brothers and sisters in Islam, the negotiations take they take place, and what happens?

You know, things are discussed, things are discussed, as you can imagine, when a negotiation happens, and then finally the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam calls his scribe, and at this time, he scribe was early, even as the pilot robiola.

He calls him and he says, write down what I'm going to dictate to you and he starts by saying Bismillahi Rahmani Raheem. So it starts writing Bismillah R Rahman r Rahim but Sohail objects.

So the Sahaba let it go. And le obliged. Then the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam continued, right, that this is what the Messenger of Allah has agreed upon. So Haley interrupted again. So Haley interrupted again. He said, had I known you to be He, meaning the Messenger of Allah, I would not have opposed. I don't believe with the Messenger of Allah.

Do you just own your own name and the name of your father? Write down Mohammed Abdullah

Subhana Allah, you can imagine the companions you can imagine the Omar's and

not having it. So they oppose this again. And the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam commanded early to erase what was written and reword it as per the suggestion of Sohail.

And the companions understand that he's telling us to let it go, so they let it go. Now the treaty had many points. I'm just going to share with you the highlights we've come to the end of today's episode, I'll share with you the highlights, and then inshallah we'll continue in our next episode in detail.

In terms of the highlights of the treaty, it stated number one, the Muslims will return back to Medina

without doing armor and come back the following year, to perform Umrah and when they do, it will be for a period of three days and the Quraysh

will give them space in Makkah to do their Umbra. And they're only allowed to come with weapons that are right they can carry like a sword, for example, can come with heavy artillery.

The Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam accepted from the agreement was that a truce would be effected between the Muslims in the last 10 years. Right? So, the Muslims leave the Qureshi alone, the currency of the Muslims alone, they leave the caravans alone, they leave their trade alone and so on and so forth.

So this was part of the treaty. Then also, it was stated that if anyone from Mecca, runs away, and goes to the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam without the permission of his guardian, than the Prophet salallahu alayhi wa sallam had to send that person back.

However, if someone ran away from Medina to the courage, the courage could keep him.
