In this episode, Sh. Omar Suleiman goes over a narration that gives us insight into some do’s and don’ts of du’a, especially about praying for patience.
[ Day 20 Du’a ]
Mu`adh bin Jabal narrated that the Prophet heard a man supplicating, saying: “O Allah! Verily, I ask You for the bounty’s completion (Allāhumma, innī as’aluka tamāman-ni`mah).” So he said: “What thing is the bounty’s completion?” He said: “A supplication that I made, that I hope for good by it.” He said: “Indeed, part of the bounty’s completion is the entrance into Paradise, and salvation from the Fire.” And he heard a man while he was saying: “O Possessor of Majesty and Honor (Yā Dhal-Jalāli wal- Ikrām)” So he said: “You have been responded to, so ask.” And the Prophet heard a man while he was saying: “O Allah, indeed, I ask You for patience (Allāhumma, innī as’alukaṣ-ṣabr)” He said: “You have asked Allah for trial, so ask him for Al-`Āfiyah.”
Salam Alaikum wa rahmatullah wa barakato. Welcome back to prayers of the pious.
So in this particular situation, I want you to imagine the prophets lie some walking around the masjid, monitoring people's their eyes and commenting on the ways that they're supplicating to Allah subhanaw taala like a full on teacher walking around and checking up on people as they're reciting. They're on making sure that they're reciting and properly. So this is a narration from one of the bingeable the a lot of time who were the Prophet peace be upon him is commenting on the eyes of other people. So this is a great lesson for us into the do's and don'ts of john. So he says that the prophets lie Selim heard a man supplicating and he asked Allah subhana wa tada he made in his, in
his supplication, a lot of men. Yes, I look at him in a while I asked you for the completion
of a blessing or the full completion of the blessing. Okay, a NEMA is the blessing. So the Prophet peace be upon him said, Well, what do you mean by that? And he said, it's a supplication that I make that I hope good for by it. So the prophets I seldom said to him, that, indeed, from the completion of the nerima, the completion of the bounty is salvation, entering into paradise and protection from the fire. So the prophet SAW some was not negating his. He was saying, just make sure that you intend by that term and near that completion of the bounty, the ultimate bounty, which is salvation, entering into paradise and protection from the fire. Then the prophets lie some walked by another
man. And he heard this man calling out Yeah, they'll generally well a crumb, or Possessor of Majesty an honor, which is one of the ways that the Prophet peace be upon him is to call upon a lie, they'll generally while it crumb Oh, Possessor of Majesty and Honor. So the prophets lie some responded to him and said, You have been responded to so ask then the prophets I seldom heard a man making a Allahumma inni. Luca Saba, Oh Allah I asked you for patience. I've gotten asked this question many times. Can I ask Allah for patience? Is it a good thing to ask a lot for patience? So overall, I asked you for patience. The prophets lie Selim says. So Alta La Bella, you have asked Allah for
hardship for Salah who laugh here instead, ask him for ease. There's a lot in this draft a lot to unpack. You have asked a lot for test and trial instead asked him to be spared. How do we reconcile this? Don't we want to be from a sub 18? Don't we want to be from those who are patient and attain the level of patience? Didn't the prophets lie Selim say that Allah has never given a servant of his a gift that is more expansive and more comprehensive than a suburban patience? So why would the Prophet slicin um, say to this man, don't ask Allah for patience. Instead, ask Allah for and afia the Prophet slicin was referring to a specific context. It's not about asking Allah for the quality
of patience, which is a great quality to have, or the station of the patient, which is a great station to have. But in this situation, when you're going through a hardship instead of asking Allah to give you patience in the hardship, ask a lot to remove the trial and demonstrate patience in your very being. Instead of asking a lot in with with a spirit of uncertainty and with a spirit of expectation, of hardship and trial, ask a lot with an expectation of good and an ease, and then accept if trial comes to you that that trial is indeed good, and is a form of ease in its in its full context. So the prophets lie Selim did not approve of this man making the Dalai Lama Aeneas
Alka submit all I asked you for patience. Instead, the Prophet slicin taught us to ask Allah for alfia to ask a lot to be spared. And then to take with grace and patience, whatever comes our way. So May Allah subhanaw taala grant us the quality of sovereign and grant us the station of a submarine. But May Allah subhanaw taala grant us and apphia grant us you know, pardon and forgiveness and allow us to be spared in this life and grant us the best of this life. And the next alarm, I mean, does that go on Long Island See you all next time in sha Allah soleimani como la he will go to council
