What do I do when I don't understand the first of the Quran or Hadith? Is it okay to just reject it?
rejecting a verse of the Quran is tantamount to rejecting the entire Quran. or not. If the Hadith is not authentic, then obviously that changes the whole dynamics, if it is authentic, then once again you need to find out what exactly is the meaning of the Hadith. At some level, you're going to have to submit even if you don't understand a lot is not requiring you to understand each and every commandment, Allah is requiring that you submit and you obey to your greatest extent.
