in this blessed month of Ramadan. It is appropriate that we ask ourselves what is the primary purpose and the wisdom for which Allah subhanho wa Taala is asking us to fast and there are actually many responses of them as taqwa and inshallah one week we'll talk about Taqwa. The first of them is an element that we are born with, we cannot help it. Those of us that are parents, we realize some of our children are more patient, some are more hasty, some are more temperamental, angry, some are much more calm, that's in their fitrah, it's ingrained in them. And for that element, really all you can do is make dua to Allah, Oh Allah make me patient. But there is a second component, and that is your own training. You know, it's just like physical

strength. Some people are born and naturally there are strong, but even those that are not strong, if they go to the gym, what's going to happen? If they keep on working out what's going to happen? There is an element of every single characteristic, yes, with the help of Allah, you can better yourself, you can become physically stronger, you can have a better memory, you can gain more patience. And it is that component, I eat the self training, that Ramadan, and fasting or our gyms to train to become patient. This is going to the gym every single day, but not for physical strength. No, this month, is the gymnasium of suburb, we're going to train ourselves day in day out

every single day and every single night to master the art of being patient. And it is pretty clear and self evident how we do that. Because the meaning of sabara in Arabic is actually very interesting. sabara in pre Islamic Arabic, ancient Arabic, actually meant to withhold and to constrain. And an animal that is tied up is actually called ma spool, like you're putting software on the animal, like can't do anything.

So the actual meaning of sabara is to do nothing. That's really what Sebata means originally. And the reason why patience is called sabar is because you have to force yourself to do nothing. That's why patience comes from the root of withholding. And in this month, we force ourselves to give up to not

Do what is essential to live on? I mean, what greater act of withholding can there be? In this month of June and then July and the hot summer months in the longest days of the year?

We are forced to not drink, we are forced to not eat. We have to withhold ourselves from that which is essential from that which our colleagues and non Muslim workers they can't believe even water Yes, even water. What did the Sahaba say that we have always remained in is at the conversion of Omar. Hamza is another example, Hamza, the one of the most respected members of the Koresh, his conversion was a huge shock and a blow to the leadership of the parish and Allah use the conversion of Hamza to demonstrate the truth of Islam.

Now, I'm not comparing any human being with the sahaba. But the concept the concept is there, that Allah blesses people. care. I'm not going to kill innocent people. My faith does not allow me to do that. Well, what happened? Whoever gives up something for the sake of Allah, Allah will bless him much better than what he gave up SubhanAllah 2030 4050 years later, and the very entity and the very people that smeared him that government and the media now want to claim him as their own. Bill Clinton is going to come and give the eulogy right now as I'm speaking, other world leaders are coming. These same world leaders, their predecessors, were the ones who were smearing Muhammad Ali. You know, when the hero dies, everybody wants him, everybody wants them when the hero dies, when the heroes alive. When

the heroes the hero, when he is truly the hero, He is despised by society. That's why he's going to be the hero. I was attending the janazah yesterday of Muhammad Ali, and Dr. Sherman Jackson, a very good friend of ours and mentor to the American Muslim community. He said, Muhammad Ali made being a Muslim cool in America. Muhammad Ali was quintessentially an American Muslim, the embodiment of what American Islam is. And if you look at his life, and times, so many lessons to be derived, but again, the main point here, there are so many issues going on in the world today. And it's easy to go with the flow to be politically correct. It's easy to be quiet about the injustice is taking place. It's easy to just hide your identity. But Allah is not going to bless a life like that. Allah is not going to

bless a life like that. Look at Muhammad Ali, when he was proud to be a Muslim, and he stood up for what he believed in and he was willing to go to jail, he suffered, he suffered, there's no question, Allah is going to test you if you want to do that you're going to be tested. But look at the end result. The single greatest legend in the history of sports history of sports, think about it, nobody before him, and in all likelihood, nobody after him because he is at the right time in place. He was not just a great sportsman, he was not just a great boxer. He was a man of principle. He was a person who's active in social campaigns. He was a person who was involved in the problems of

society, he was a person speaking out about the plight of his people. That's what you call conscience. That's what you call leadership.
