Become a Standard Bearer

I think today and maybe for a couple of days hereafter, I want to talk to you about something which is has been in my mind now for over two decades. And that is, what to that is thinking about what would be the solution to our problems in this world.

Now, like most thinking Muslims of our time, over the last few years, I've also been thinking about the sad state that the Muslim ummah finds itself in,

like lost sheep. We are large in number but distracted, disconnected and dispersed prey to every passing Wolf. All the power, authority, wealth and influence seems to be in the hands of those who are arrayed against us, leaving us with little, if any choice, even with respect to the wealth, which is apparently in our hands, it is others who dispose of it.

at will, even though on the face of it, we are its owners. Like most people, I also complained and defined our problem and redefined it and redefined it and discussed it, debated it and agonized over it until I came to the conclusion that none of this was getting me any closer to a solution. And frankly, that was all that mattered.

So I thought about it I

read the Quran and the Sunnah of Rasulullah, Hassan

and also our history, both ancient and modern. Because history has the potential to teach us lessons. I spoke to people wiser and more learned than I am and listened carefully to what they had to say, Allah and others in several countries. And I prayed and I made the call and asked Allah subhanaw taala for this help of Allah subhanaw taala to understand our situation, and to devise a way out of it.

As I thought about these times, I couldn't help but see many similarities between the situation today and the situation as it existed in the time of Rasulullah sallallahu and the Sahaba during the major part of his life, sallAllahu Sallam Ibaka

they too had almost no influence, power or wealth. They were the victims of all kinds of persecution and deprivation. They were evicted from their homes boycotted and aboveboard and tortured and some were killed. Yet in one generation. In less than 20 years, the situation completely transformed and Mohamed Salah Haile Silva and his followers became the leaders of Arabia and the known world.

The big question, of course, is how did it happen? And how did they do it? i In the course of this whole thinking, I also wrote two books on this era. One is called Leadership Lessons from the life of Rasulullah salah and the second one is called sea rise the answer. Leadership Lessons is available also on Islamic online university as a diploma course.

The book has been translated now into six languages.

And Syrah is the answer is the second book. I also designed two courses. One course is called Sierra the answer, which is called the Sierra solution workshop, which is a two day two day course. And the other one is called Leadership Excellence course, which is Elysee, which is based on the other book, which is leadership lessons from the life of resources.

There are many of you who have attended both these courses that hamdulillah May Allah bless you. And so you know what we're talking about. Elysee is a five day residential program.

Now, so my idea of saying all this is because to help you understand that I'm not just talking to my hat

I'm talking about something which I have spent a lot of time and energy and and brainpower for whatever it is worth to help to try to understand for myself and then to try to help others understand this. The answer basically

But how did it happen? How did they do it? The answer is very simple. They followed the Sunnah, in every single aspect of it, they did not debate and create dominant culture to distinguish between between what is haram and what is only macro and within macro, what is dunsey and What is the hurry, they do not get stuck in minor matters of religious observance, thereby creating divisions. They simply did not do anything that was displeasing to Allah subhanho to Allah and his messenger SallAllahu sallam. They did not ask which sin was big and which was small. They avoided sin because in their mind, it was not the quantum or nature of the disobedience. But who was being disobeyed. That was important.

That is why then Allah subhanaw taala said the word believers, what we don't he meant the sahaba.

So that it was the answer to my question, what should we do to help ourselves the quest the solution was clear as daylight be Muslims, as the Sahaba were Muslim, become standard bearers of Islam.

I realized that it was necessary for us to go back to the basics and see how Rasulullah sallallahu Sallam and his Sahaba practiced Islam in every aspect of their lives. And do the same with the hope that Allah subhanaw taala would then change our conditions. When he saw that we were ready to do his work and to give it proceeds over our own desires and pursuits. It is really quite simple.
