I'd like to welcome you all to this new series that we are going to go through in sha Allah Who data
over the course of this month, a blessed month of Ramadan.
In sha Allah how to add a three times a week, every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, we're gonna go through
this book of shuffle Islam, Ibn Taymiyyah
Rahim Allah Allahu taala, called Healthy equal to cm,
or the reality of fasting, or the essence of fasting. And this book has been translated into English. And it's published by Dar Salam. And they translated it as the nature of fasting, the nature of fasting.
And this book
basically goes through
not all the rulings pertaining to fasting, but
rather,
those things pertaining to what breaks the fast the things that invalidate the fast, the things that break the fast, that is what he goes through in this book. And
without a doubt, this is something that
every single Muslim must gain knowledge about.
Unfortunately, most Muslims we are, you know, lacking in terms of our knowledge of the very fundamentals and the basics of our deen and this is one of the most fundamental aspects of our deen. Here we're talking about one of the pillars of our deen
the pillar of fasting and so we need to know everything about it.
Before we actually get into
the book, before we actually start the book,
it would be appropriate to
give an introduction today in the session in sha Allah hota Allah
an introduction concerning
the
the very essence of what it means to fast
the very essence of what it means to fast and what are some of the wisdoms behind why Allah legislated for us to fast
and so
most people, when the month of Ramadan comes
they think, you know, this is a month in which I have to stay away from,
from eating from drinking, and from intimate relations during the daytime, from Fudger until sunset and for them that's all fasting means to them. And that's all Ramadan means to them.
Unfortunately, this is the reality with regards to most Muslims today.
And so they're understand understanding of what it means to fast and why Allah has legislated fasting is restricted to this elder, elder dimension of fasting. And so what we want to do today in shallow data, we want to look at the inner dimension of fasting, what is the reality of what it means to fast and what are we trying? Or what should we be trying to achieve?
Through this pillar of of our deen and through this great
act of rebirth
until there's no doubt that fasting is one of
the great act of Ayurveda,
that a person can do
can perform for the sake of Allah subhana who retired. And so there are many.
There are many wisdoms that we can extract from, you know, the legislation behind
fasting behind Allah subhanho wa Taala legislating this great active, are you better?
The first point that we want to mention is that
the reality of Aetherium of fasting,
besides
staying away from
our outer pleasures, you know, our outer cravings,
for food for drink for sexual relations. Besides that, besides that
the
the main essence of fasting is that it is a training ground.
It is
a school that teaches us
to stay away from certain things, to stay away from certain things.
If we were to look at all the pillars of Islam,
we would find that
they revolve around things that we have to do
things that we have to either physically do or say. So the first pillar of the Shahada. It's something you verbally say.
Or salah.
It's something you do, you perform a lot with actions, physical actions and verbal statements.
With regards to the cat,
again, you're taking out money, and you're giving it to the poor. It's a physical act. And the same thing with a hedge.
It involves physical actions and verbal statements.
Except for fasting.
What do we notice, except for fasting? Fasting is the one pillar of Islam that does not involve anything that we have to do, or that we have to say, but rather it involves, it involves just one thing and that is, stay away.
Stay away from something.
Because our deen is not
a set of rules. do this do this, do this ABC. And that's it. But rather our deen consists of doing certain things, and also staying away from other things. And this is what Allah subhanho wa Taala wants to teach us through the Ibadah of fasting,
that, you know, there are certain things that we have to do and then there are certain things that we have to stay away from. And so what fasting it teaches us is that it teaches us to stay away to refrain from certain things. And so if fasting teaches us anything, it is to teach us self control.
To stay away from certain things which are otherwise permissible, halal, completely halal, food, drink, relations with our wives, completely hung out 100% Halal
but Allah subhanahu wa Hanna made it temporarily forbidden
from Fudger until sunset, don't do it, stay away from it.
So if this is regarding something which is permissible, then how about all those things which Allah has made forbidden in Ramadan and outside of Ramadan?
And so what this shows us is that fasting this is what it is supposed to. This is what it is supposed to teach us. And that's why in the area in which Allah subhanho wa Taala commands us to fast you Halina Avenue? Could either Ali Khan mausoleum, Kim Ikuti Valentina mutability calm. How does Allah in the area, la isla Kume taco, all you who believe fasting has become prescribed for you, as it was prescribed for those who came before you? For what purpose? What is the objective behind you know, depriving us depriving ourselves from food from drink
during the day, especially if the day is very long, getting tired, losing our energy, what's what's the whole objective behind it? Allah ends the area so that perhaps you may achieve Taqwa so that perhaps you will be a people who get the goon. They fear Allah they gain Taqwa of Allah.
Hello, Thailand.
What is Dakhla for
Taqwa is for staying away from that which is haram.
Taqwa.
It basically means that you have this consciousness of Allah, this fear of Allah. And because of this consciousness of him because of this fear of him, Don't dare do what He has forbidden.
And so this is what fasting builds. This is what fasting. It builds it helps us to achieve it helps us to achieve achieve Taqwa
by refraining from these things during the daytime. And that's why, if a person he is fasting by staying away from food and drink during the day, and he has not achieving taqwa, then it means that there is something wrong with his, with his fasting.
If you're not achieving taqwa, through
this great pillar of fasting, during the month of Ramadan,
and you still commit sin,
without any fear of Allah subhanho wa taala, then it means that something's missing. And there's something wrong with your, with your fasting.
And so,
the reality and the true essence of fasting is not to simply stay away from food and drink, but rather to stay away from everything that Allah has forbidden.
From everything that Allah subhanho wa Taala has forbidden
and so, you forbid your stomach,
from food and drink, you forbid your private parts from falling into
or
having relations with your wives. You protect your eyes from looking at how you protect your ears, from listening to haram. You protect your tongue from speaking that which is haram.
You prevent your hands from touching that is that which is haram or striking that which is haram. You prevent your feet from walking to that which is haram, and so on, and so forth.
And this is something that the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam reminded us of with regards to fasting when he sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said Middleham Jada called a Zulu ally, maybe he will gel Felisa Lila he had and Jada parama, who was Sharada, who, that if
a person
does not abandon does not stay away from seeing false speech
from saying that, which is false and untrue, and, you know, acting by it, and from ignorance, then a lot is not in need of this person to stay away from his food and from his drink. And so this shows us that the true essence of fasting is more than just staying away from food and drink, but rather,
it is.
It is staying away from everything that Allah Subhana Allah has forbidden and that's why Roma Radi Allahu Allah he says, lace of cm Amina behind me was Sharabi with the who will our kin who mean Allah KDB will bow really well luckily we'll have that fasting
is not just refraining from food and drink alone, but rather it is refraining from lying from falsehood from
from false speech and from making false oats. The second point that I wanted to mention is that Allah subhanho wa Taala
did not
legislate fasting
to simply tire us out, to simply make us suffer.
And unfortunately, there are people who look at fasting through this lens. They think that Allah is torturing us
by making us to deprive ourselves of
a food and drink for such a long period of time.
And that's why there are people who there are Muslims who
They do not look forward to Ramadan. For this reason.
They actually don't look forward to it.
Whereas the true believer, he looks forward to the coming of the month of Ramadan because he knows that it's an opportunity
to worship Allah subhana wa Tada and to get closer to Allah. And so, there is not a single thing that Allah has commanded us to do.
There is not a single or a bad that Allah has legislated that is meant
to harm us.
There is not a single EBA that Allah has legislated
that is meant to harm us.
And so if we look at something from that angle, that this thing involves harm
and unnecessary,
unnecessary torture, then it is because of our lack of understanding.
It is because of a lack of our insight.
Not because Allah legislated it to harm us.
And so,
the only reason why Allah legislated what he legislated, of various acts of Ayurveda
is
for us,
to become submissive to him.
Because that's what we are, we are servants of Allah. We are slaves of Allah.
And the servant the slave, what does he do?
He lowers himself, he, he humbles himself to his master.
And that is the highest level of rudia of servitude.
When you humble yourself to Allah subhanahu ATOD. And you lower yourself to Allah subhanho wa taala.
And that's what fasting means.
That is what you're doing when you're fasting.
You're staying away from food and drink and sexual desires, for the sake of Allah subhanho wa Taala not for anyone else, not for any other reason.
As mentioned in the Hadith, the Hadith could see
where Allah mentions regarding his his servant. Yeah, the Dharma, who was shahada, who was Shehata who really agilely
he abandoned his food, his drink and his shower, for my sake. And that is why I will reward him.
As the Hadith mentioned, in the beginning part of the Hadith, that every
act of the son of Adam is for him, except for fasting, it is done solely for me, meaning that you know, all the other acts of a bad
that a person does.
He could end up doing it out of reach out for others. But how about fasting?
It's not really imaginable that a person can show off to the people that he's fasting
and that he does not do it sincerely for the sake of Allah. Because yes, he may show the people all on fasting, he may even tell the people on fasting,
but then behind closed doors,
in the privacy of his own home, he could eat and drink,
what's going to prevent
it so this is why the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam mentioned this, in this hadith could see
that this is the only act of Ayurveda that the son of Adam does, sincerely for Allah.
And so, the point here is that fasting
is an act of very bad and all of the Riba that that Allah has legislated.
They involve lowering a person lowering himself, humbling himself down. If we were to look at some of the act of ADA, that are,
you know, precious to Allah subhanho wa Taala we find the same thing. A dua
it's still hotter, calling upon a lot in when you're in distress, where you're begging Allah subhanahu Attallah, you're in a distressful situation and you want something or you want to be rescued from something and you're begging Allah you lower yourself to Allah
subhanho wa Taala also sujood
this state of salud is the lowest state that a person can bring himself to in this dunya
where you bring all of your,
all of your
older organs down to the ground, even the most precious part of your body, your face, putting it down to the ground, lowering yourself, humbling yourself down to this level, for the sake of Allah Subhan, who would add also in our sacrifice,
our job
that we do on either of
sacrificing for Allah subhanho wa Taala
and many other examples, the third point
the third point is that fasting
and staying away from
food and drink,
it teaches a person to be patient,
to be patient over what to be patient
over two things to be patient over obedience of Allah.
And to be patient over the disobedience of Allah. And so the scholars they mentioned that, that sober patience revolves around three things in our deen
being patient over that which Allah has commanded.
Being patient over the bar, the obedience of Allah, and the second is being patient.
In in terms of not disobeying Allah
or Sobral Island Masseria, not disobeying Allah. And the third, being patient over a Cadabra Leanna, the painful
coder of Allah subhanho wa Taala when Allah sends a calamity, and so we have to be patient.
And so
fasting teaches us to be patient over the obedience of Allah, and to be patient, and not to disobey Allah subhanho wa Taala and this is by
staying away from these things that we enjoy otherwise, food and drink, and,
and intimate relations.
And whoever does this, whoever, you know, stays patient.
Whoever stays patient,
then he resembles the Mujahid feasibility.
And so throughout the Quran, we find Allah subhanho wa taala. Commanding when he commands, waging Jihad feasability Allah, he commands the Mujahideen to observe patients, to be patient.
To remain firm and steadfast to persevere with patience. Because when you're facing the enemy, you need that patience in order to continue to fight him.
When the onslaught comes, and you're attacked,
you don't you need to, you need to stand your ground, and you cannot run away.
And so if you're Rajab,
he says, he mentioned a very beautiful statement. He says
that two kinds of jihad come together in the month of Ramadan, for the believer, two kinds of jihad. The first is the jihad of fasting during the day, and the second is the jihad of priamo. Late in the nighttime, so both of these things are a struggle. They are a struggle, and they require patience. And this is what fasting it teaches us. This is what fasting it teaches us
the fourth point
that I wanted to mention here
is
that when a person fasts
and he stays away from food and drink
this it brings down his energy
and it brings down his his Shaohua
and it therefore
does not give the opportunity to Shaitan to have an upper hand over their individual.
And so shaitan comes to a person most when he sees that that person has strength and energy
to do the Haram that he wants him to do.
But when he finds that he doesn't have that energy, he gives up hope in him.
What's this person gonna do?
You know,
he doesn't have the strength or the energy to do this one thing that I'm wanting him to do.
And it's as the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam mentioned, regarding Shaitan in the shape on AGT Munib, the Adam majorda
that
shaitan he,
he travels within a person, like our, like our blood flows in our body.
And so once our shanwa has gone down
we're not able to
basically
move forward to to do many haram things. And that's why the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam
advised this particular solution
to the young individuals to the youth who have a strong shower, who have a strong lustful desire
when he said yeah, now shorter Chabad minister I mean combat affiliate is a wedge, 1 million lamea CellProfiler Hebrew song for in lieu for in Allah for in the hula who will jack for in the hula, who which are
the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said, advising the youth, oh, youth,
Whoever among you is able to let him to get married.
But whoever is not able to do that, he doesn't have the financial means, for example, then let him to observe fast, let him fast. And then he mentioned the reason for that he said, because that is a protection for him.
How is fasting a protection, just like we explained, when you fast, and you deprive yourself of food and drink, your share what goes down, your energy goes down. And so you're not able to do the Haram that you would have thought otherwise have done when you are not when you are not fasting. And so this is one of the things that fasting it teaches us, it teaches us how
to basically
counter attacks a path
in this life.
We are constantly battling two things. And these two things have basically tag teamed against us
our knifes which is evil inclining And shaitan.
These two things,
we have enough's that is already inclining to evil, it wants to do evil. And then Satan comes and tag teams with that evil inclining knifes
and that's it. We're doomed after that.
Unless we bring these two things under, under our control.
And when we do that, then that's it. We have defeated you have defeated the plots of shaitan.
And this is what this is what fasting it teaches us.
With that in sha Allah hota Allah,
we will come to the end of this first session is introductory session
in which we will be going through the book of Shere Khan Islam, Ibn Taymiyyah. Huxley's got to see him or the nature of fasting.
And as I mentioned earlier,
this book the shares he authored, concerning that which breaks the fast the rulings concerning
the rot
the things that break the fast the things that invalidate
fast. And so in sha Allah hota Allah in the next session, we will start
with the book and we will go through it in sha Allah to Allah and
within Allah He to Allah I ask Allah subhanahu wa to Allah to grant us beneficial knowledge. I ask Allah subhanho wa Taala to accept from us,
our CM our fast our km, and all of our good deeds in this month of Ramadan
or Salah Allahu wa salam ala Nabina Muhammad, while early he was so happy Ultramarine was Salam Alaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh
