As to what follows my beloved brothers and sisters, to our friends, to our viewers, as Salaam Alaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh
Alhamdulillah we are always grateful to Allah subhanaw taala for the opportunity to do a deep dive into Islamic history, and to look at this in relationship to our own lives.
And that is so important in the times that we are living in, because we are going through very critical periods of human existence. And we could say to a certain extent that this is a YAML fitten. These are the time of the trials and temptations and this is something that was predicted by the prophet peace and blessings be upon him. And it's something that we will have to face at some point in our life, no matter who you are.
And people tend to associate fitna only with temptations and or maybe with strife. They may associated with really evil things. What fitna can happen to people who are practicing Islam,
people who are actually motivated by Islam, because fitna is a reality that is in our existence, based upon the strivings. And the last resort whispering of the shade time where he has to be there, and his forces and his minions.
And so when we look at the concept of fitna, and I want to focus on this because we don't study history, just for history itself. For many people, history is just some dry facts and something that you memorize and some names that you put on your wall. But the reality for us is that this is human experience. And so when humans are going through experiences, especially when Muslims are going through experiences, and it is something of relevance to us, as believers, and especially the first generations, as the Prophet SAW salem said, hey, Ron asked me to Medina, your Luna home to Medina, you'll know that the best of people are in my generation, and then the ones that follow them, and
then the ones that follow them. So these were the best of people. But they were still people. They were still in San it is still NASS. And so therefore, the fitness is a natural thing. And when we look at the definition of fitna, there's so many different angles of it, but we could say, fit now the plural is Fitton. But it's temptation, trial, sedition, civil strife, conflict. And there's a great emphasis and fitna on affliction and distress and also confusion. And one of the worst forms of fitna is not just the temptation,
of sex and drugs and gambling, but it is confusion. It's the gray area.
It's when you're not sure whether to go to the right or to the left. In this case when we say the great fitnah
We are looking at a combination of things but sedition and civil strife. So this is sort of like a political fitna. And that is the struggling of two parties of the believers. And this kind of fitna, for many is probably the worst possible thing that can happen in the life of an individual to be tested with
struggling with their brother or with their sister.
And in this case, when we talk about fitna,
we looked at some of the reasons what was happening to the companions of the Prophet SAW Selim, we realize that this small tightly knit group of the Mahajan who came out of Mecca, who suffered for 13 years, that character was built, they bond with each other their connection with Allah subhanaw taala. And then they migrated and they met the unsought, the helpers the supporters of Medina, and they bonded together to form this model community for all times
when it began to spread, when letters were sent out to the different tribes in Arabia, when the Muslims were attacked in Medina by the Zap, the the groups coming out of Mecca, and Allah gave them victory. Then numbers started to come in. People, tribes, leaders and wealth started to pour it. When the letters were sent to the kings and Islam began to spread. And the Muslims were attacked by the Romans in the north and by the Persians in the east. Then, the fitna began to broaden, because now there were international powers that were there, but Allah gave them victory. And through their faith and weakness, and oppression in the Roman Empire, they defeated the Byzantine Romans. Through
the weakness and oppression in Sassanid dynasty of Persia, they defeated the Persians. And so huge territories came under the control of the Muslims. Unbelievable wealth started to pour in this is not the wealth of a desert society. But this is the wealth of huge empires that control oceans, that control mountains that controlled trade routes, crossing different parts of the world. And so one of the causes of the fitna to keep in mind, it's an overabundance of wealth, that too much wealth is being poured in and with that wealth is coming power. And of course, at the at the essence of it is human weakness. It is that tendency towards survival. And that tendency can lead us toward
tribalism. It will lead us toward corruption, and bloodshed.
And this we know happens on different levels. And so the fitna
happened in this case, especially when we see the spread of Islam, that the first generation companions, because of the conflict that they were facing, Allah gave them shahada, they became martyrs, and they started to pass away. But when that first generation passes away, you are now dealing with people who were in the company of Rasul Allah, Salah Salem, who were there at the time of the revelation. And the least less lesser they are is the further you are to the original revelation. And so fitna then starts to come in. And remember fitna again can happen in a family, between a husband and a wife. It can happen between parents and the children. It can happen in our
communities. And many of us have faced within our masajid within our Islamic centers, fitna, in other words, one leader against another leader, or one organization against another organization, or one movement against another movement. And I'm sure that everybody has felt the pain of fitna, even within the past 10 to 20 years, in the Muslim world, and in our communities, even in the Western countries as far away as we are from the heartlands of Islam. We face fitna even on a community level, and that fitness sometimes was not because of anything ideological or anything that was clear it may be the ego of two leaders or it may be tribalism. It may even reach the point of being a type
And so that's sedition. That's strife, that problem that we are facing. This is the fifth.
And so when we look at the great fitna that is coming now. And the Prophet SAW Salem
is giving his companions,
the proofs, and he is giving them there's so many different heartbeats on there. So when you look in Bukhari and Muslim, look at the session on barbell fitting, and you will see so many amazing Hadith I want to bring a few to try to show
what is the Islamic position? Because if you are in our situation with your brother, and this goes back to the time of Cain and Abel, corbeil and Habib, these are the sons of Adam Alayhis Salam, right from the beginning. When they had a strife between themselves and Cain, killed Abel corbeil he killed Samuel.
And so that was a fitna and the Prophet SAW Salem, gave proof that if you're in a fitna like this, don't fight your brother. You're actually better off to be the innocent one of the to
the one who's like innocently killed
by his brother, you're ultimately better on the Day of Resurrection, not to be an aggressor against another believer. And so Abu Huraira the law one he reports that Allah's Messenger sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said, they will be afflictions fit in
the near future, during which a sitting person will be better than a standing.
And a standing one will be better than a walking one. And the walking one will be better than a running one. And whoever will expose himself to these afflictions these fitten they will destroy him. So whoever can find a place of protection or refuge from them should take shelter in it. In other words, if this fitna is coming, you're seeing brothers and sisters fighting masjid, fighting, movements fighting, you know, if you sit down and don't get involved, you're actually better than someone who's walking in it. If you're running in it being involved, you're worse off than somebody who's sitting.
So try to stay as far away as you can. From these stripes and these fitness that will happen.
I will say a little hoodie Rhodiola Juan, he reports that the Prophet SAW Selim said, There will come a time when the best property of a Muslim will be sheep, which he will take to the tops of mountains and places of rainfall, so as to flee with his religion, from these fitting from these afflictions. So that'll be the best property. In other words, don't stay around in the middle of this strife and problem that is happening between the Muslims. And Osama bin Zayed Rhodiola one Houma
said once the Prophet peace be upon him, stood over one of the high buildings of Medina and then said to the people, do you see what I see? They said no, he said, I see fittin afflictions falling among your houses, as raindrops fall.
Look at the description. raindrops falling, there's so many raindrops. They're coming everywhere. And these fitten I happen, he said, he actually predicts this he, he sees this coming in,
in Medina itself. So this is something which is really deep, that the Prophet SAW Selim is predicting now. The issue is this. If there is struggle going on between two parties of the believers, what do you do? Many other traditions are telling just leave it go away. Some even say break your swords. Break your shields. Don't be involved at all go away. But Allah subhanaw taala at the same time has told us in Surah 201st Nine we're into if attorney middle mumineen accetta Lu. So Allah
tells us if two parties of the believers happen to fight,
make peace between them. But then if one of them transgresses against the other, fight the one that transgresses until it reverts to Allah's command and it
If it does revert, make peace between them with justice and be equitable for Allah loves the equitable
and Allah you have been oxetane test justice other and so this is a different concept now. So one concept is go away from the whole situation. But the other concept is saying that if there are two parties of the believers they're fighting first, then you do sort of make peace.
But if they're not making peace, and if one of them is the transgressor, then fight the transcriber, fight that transgressor until he or she or the party reverts to the Command of Allah.
If they do, Revert, then immediately make peace and do justice. That is the Islamic way. And this verse, to a certain extent,
is there because the Quran is something for all times, and it's for us as well as situations that we are in. But really, the companions did not really understand this, in the time of Rasulullah saw Salah because the main attacks that were coming, were coming from the outside, it was coming from the munafo team from the hypocrites. It was coming from the the disbelievers that were attacking them the Mushrikeen but not between the Muslims themselves because the presence of the prophets outsell them gave a type of stability amongst the believers. Also with Abu Bakar Siddiq Rhodiola Han, Omar Abdullah Qatar was a pillar of strength. And so there was no place for the shaitaan and
his minions to come in under the rule of Omar. But Omar was assassinated. See how the fitna now comes. And then with a man was chosen.
An Earth man read the Alolan is a Sahabi Jaleel. He is an important Companion of the prophets I seldom do nor rain, he has married to other daughters of the Prophet peace be upon him. He is so important amongst the believers, one of the 10 promised paradise before his death, he was powerful, strong person, but he had what we would call an easy going personality. He's the kind of person that if you ask him for something, and he doesn't see something wrong, he's going to give it to you. And so people who were not necessarily the same as with men,
took advantage of this.
And we find that requests were being made. And so this is the predicament that worth men found himself in, that he is trying to do justice. He is allowing people who make requests to get their requests. He was not looking at things in terms of tribe, or in terms of race. But that's not the way that everybody looked at it. And if you can remember in the early lesson going back to Mecca in the early days, there was a struggle in Quraysh between the Hashimi Qureshi tried path and the immediate side, Ben omega, and this is within Kodesh. But when mayor himself part of the Quraysh lineage struggled against the Hashi means he was exiled. And that sort of bitterness remained
amongst his family and they tended to be more political. They tended to be more military than the Hashemites who had the spirituality and the love of the people, and the main leadership of the people, and so forth, man Rhodiola one, he was from Ben OMYA.
And the Romanians to a great extent, had settled down in Syria. And Mahalia EB Sophia and rhodiola, one great Sahabi Sahabi Jaleel. Caterpillar he, he used to write the revelation for the Prophet SAW Salem, a major companion, known for his wisdom and his ability to judge and his political acumen he settled in Damascus, and Damascus was the de gate to the Roman Empire. It was considered to be one of the oldest freestanding city states on Earth. And so a long history and important place. And many of the companions of the Prophet SAW Salem, including people like below where the Lord actually settled down in Damascus. And so de mash or Damascus was a very important place and wow, yeah, was a
solid ruler and all during the the rule of Abu Bakar the rule of OMA the rule of Earth man, all the way through
Up until the rule of Ali,
while there was a stable force in many other parts, you see the leaders were taken out of their positions, or the leaders move. But wow, you had stability. And he had this political wisdom, this acumen. And so he had a solid foundation. And he made a strong connection with the Syrian people who represent now the Benu Asfar. These are the light skinned people who are coming from Syria and Lebanon, and then the Roman Empire, coming from the north, it's the Kurdish people, it's the people who are coming. They're very powerful, strong nations, you know, with emotional attachments with the leaders. And so, the prediction that the the predicament of craftsmen for the long run, was trying
to balance the situation that he was in.
And the fitna continued, and in this case, the fitna, and we recognize what happens in this political fitna. This civil strife, many times it happens with a type of innovation that comes in. And so innovation and sedition. So I'm using the word sedition. And sedition is they are like conspirators. So they are people who may appear to be Muslims, they made the like munafo pain to a certain extent, but even worse, because they're actually actively politically involved to take you down.
And so sedition, and he based it on Bidda that he entered in, and this is Abdullah bin Saba, that I'm talking about, who was a Jewish man who came from the hood of Yemen, and are historians and scholars say that he entered Islam in order to destroy it. There were those from the Jewish people Benny Assad, who embraced Islam, who were allies of the Muslims, but were there others there were others who could not handle it. They could not handle the fact that the Prophet peace be upon him came from the other side of Ibrahim Elise lambs family, not Sara side, but from hajus side. So instead of from his hocks lineage, this is from Ismail's lineage coming down. And so they couldn't
handle that fact that people were coming in from this side and and they became, in many cases, part of the opposition. So even Saba came and he started his
innovation, his bidder, especially attacking Tauheed and re salah, that is the Oneness of Allah and the Prophet hood. He did it indirectly. And that is by raising up the status of the family of the prophets on Sunday, especially Ali ibn Abi Taalib, Quran Allahu wa jal to the point where trying to make Ollie appear like there's something divine about him. He is like godlike and many people had beliefs within their ancient cultures, that the kings and the royal families were connected to God, that they were literally the expression of the Creator of the heavens and the earth, inside of human beings. And so using that weakness in people and also attacking the personality of Earth man, really
alone and they started the he tried to do it in Medina, but of course Medina there were so many companions of the Prophet SAW Selim so many of the Alomar in Medina, there's no way that this would catch on. And so it was finished in Medina.
He then went to Iraq. He tried Iraq, Basra in Kufa. He tried Damascus, but it was especially in Kufa that he found compatriots and Kufa is an area remember now if you look at Iraq closely, you see that it is close to the area of Babel, and Babel is Babylon. And that is where the angels how route and my route as we find that certain Bukhara that they introduced a sangha. Magic was introduced by the angels as a fitna as a trial and a temptation upon human beings. And so, that area tended to have a lot of confusion, the the occult, many different underground groups seditious that area is recorded to have more coup de towers and conspiracies and maybe anywhere on the face of the planet Earth. And
so, Gibbon sabas followers, they started to gain strength. They're in Kufa and in Iraq. And they were
went to Egypt. When they went to Egypt, they found strong support people who were maybe closer to the Hejaz area, then maybe going from Iraq, crossing that major desert. And they were ready to actually assist. And so they did. As we learned, they wrote letters out, talking against with men or the law one, accusing him of taking money, accusing him of giving positions to Ben Mejia. Of course, he rejected this, and this is what's man read the law one, the companions and the righteous people knew that this was lies. But when you write something down, and you slander people, it starts to cause a problem. Think about your own communities now, think about movements, think about leaders,
and what has happened even in recent years, in the Muslim world, and even in our communities. And so, the Sedition is started to gain strength, and they wanted to get with men out of power. And so they formulated an idea that they would come into Medina, disguised as her judge. And so this again is the 34th year after the hilltop, and they come in as people who are intending to go to Mecca. It's coming near the pilgrimage season. And they start to come in but word starts to come to the people of Medina, that there are seditious and that these traditions are outta the people of fitna and Ali really allow one as a variable or warmer the law one, many of the companions, they go to
Earth man and they say we heard about these conspiracies and we're ready to go outside of Medina to stop these people before they come in deen is not a big place. We've got to stop these people, before they come into our placid city was man read the law one takes the position, no fighting nothing in Medina and nothing outside of Medina
let Allah's command fall in the way that will fall. And so, the conspirators then
are able to now come into the city. And they are pushing now again in different ways, making the innuendos and slander and working against Earth men. And this becomes a very serious problem. And so when it reaches that point, that you could see the crisis happening Earth man ready a lot one, sensing a crisis goes to the masjid with the companions and gives them what would be his Farewell Sermon.
And he praises Allah. And he sends Peace and blessings to the Prophet SAW Salem. And he tells them very clearly that he is the servant of Allah. And he does not want bloodshed to be in the city. And in a nutshell, he told us companions, don't resist. If there are people causing confusion, don't resist them inside of the city, so he's taken that position that of the fitna comes, be like the innocent child of Adam aleza. And even went to the point where he said, that
And so he told the Companions take off your swords, do not carry weapons. And so what happened is, the people of fitna became large a number in Medina, and very vocal, and they carry their weapons, because they were not companions of the Prophet saw something. They're not listening to us, man, they were against it. But the Companions, believing the leader and having to walk Allah, they disarmed themselves, except for a few of course, they disarmed themselves. And it was a very dangerous situation. And so, the word started to spread. And the Companions realizing now that they couldn't do anything inside of the city sent word out about what was happening there. And
with man read the law on realizing the problem, he sends the Mothers of the Believers to Mecca. So we whoever is left of the wives of the Prophet SAW Salem, leave the city.
He has been surrounded by these traditions. The word now goes out, and so the Companions, many of whom are in Kufa, Basra, Damascus, other parts
of the Muslim world. They start to organize an army start to come. armies coming from Damascus armies coming from Kufa, armies, armies coming from buzzer and these people have fitna realize that they don't have much time left. What are they going to do? Now amongst the the Sedition is the people of fitna. There's different opinions. There are some who are saying, We have to get with man out of his position, but we can't kill him. Others are saying if we don't kill him, we will be killed. And so they had a crisis even from within themselves. And
Ali Rhodiola one, and many of the companions, they set their youth, Hassan SE and Abdullah bin Zubair, and many of the youngest Sahaba. And they went to the courtyard. And when this addition is we're trying to come into the house of Richmond, I read the law, when they act, they literally blocked these sedition just from coming in, they blocked the house, so that they could not come inside and take the life of the great companion of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him.
But with man, when he sees the confusion in his own courtyard, He then tells them, put away your swords, put them away,
no fighting inside of my house, no struggle at all. I want no bloodshed. And, and so for the most part, they basically ended. This edition is then
climbed up, they couldn't get in the front gate. Abdullah bin Isabella was still there himself. They couldn't get in there. So they climbed over the roof. And they attacked us man. Now this fitna and some of the gory details that are involved in it. It's something which is heart shattering. And it is something which, you know, really scholarly people and people who are grounded in Islam should deal with. And so you find that many of the scholars of the Alexandre Wajima do not spend detailed times on this. Unfortunately, because of the propaganda that comes in the distorted positions that come in, from people who joined the different sects and groups that we will be looking at. There's
so much propaganda and false narrations that it is important to get a general understanding about what was happening during this time, from the position of the other Sunday, Roger Ma. And the text Hello, awesome middle callosum of cardi Ibaka. Even Araby. This is a great and Lucien *y scholar is one of the more authenticated books that goes into some details that you don't find unless you go into a Tabari and even cathedra. You got to go deep into the history books to find some details. And so these people of fitna came over, and they found Earth man rather law one, reading the Quran.
This is a companion of the Prophet peace and blessings be upon him. He has so much modesty and so much Taqwa that was even said in traditional, even the angels have higher
that he is a person of so much modesty and so much love. And he's an elderly person. And he's reading the book of Allah subhanaw taala.
Even though such a beautiful scene, these evil people have fitna with disease in their heart, they strike him and they hit him with death blows and blood falls down from Earth man onto the Quran itself. And we find that
according to our reports, that drops of blood fell down on certain Bacara first 137
was Syafiq we would say a fika whom Allah was some Milani
but Allah will suffice you against them. And he is all hearing and all knowing it's an emotional thing if you start reading this, that the blood coming down and falling on this verse, say a fika, whom Allah, Allah will suffice you.
Allah was suffice you against them.
And he is the one who he is he is the one who sees all things.
And what historians did a census of those who actually committed the murder, because they eventually killed this man. His servants came in and killed one of them and
killed another one of the people who are directly involved in his killing they died. The other conspirators who are around for the most part, all of them died except for only two or three who lasted for a while. And it wasn't till the time of the Romanians in a time of a judge, even Youssef that the final ones were killed. And, but it's a terrible scene. And to add to that, not EULA Rhodiola Juana This is the wife of Earth man trying to defend her husband, and the evil person of fitna, struck her and cut off one of her fingers.
And so, this horrible scene has happened. And after this, of course, when the word gets out, the people of Medina are in sorrow and the word starts to spread out.
And this addition is now because they are the majority having their swords and their weapons in Medina. And the companions are in a very tight situation. They don't allow for a mass janazah to happen. But they do allow the family of Earth man and close people to now bury him and to bury those around him. And the word is now spreading out
and not Illa Rhodiola one this is the wife of Earth man. She then got the the the commies, the shirt of Jasmine Rhodiola one and report say her finger
and set this in a package to more Alia now imagine this scene. You are in Damascus now with the family of the Romanians. And people who love us man really allow one. And of course, all over the Muslim world when this is known that this man has died in this way. It is something that strikes the heart of any believer.
But just imagine the scene now that the messenger now throws this down with a letter from Nabila a powerful letter recorded by historians where she is basically saying you are you know from his family, you are one of the leaders, I am sending you this I am sending you
is commis you are the one responsible
you must take revenge. The blood of Earth man is on your hands. And so this is an emotional thing. And so they put the shirt like on the mimbar and there's there's 1000s of people 40,000 warriors are gathering together and they're crying at the same time and when they see this this shirt, they are in a mask crying and calling for revenge and we know based upon what has happened in the Muslim world, but think about your own family. Think about if somebody killed your father or somebody important in your family in TOCOM revenge which is something natural in human beings, but it is not necessarily the Islamic way to solve the problem of fitness. So what develops out of this is that
wow, we are now calls for revenge.
And his call is to deal with the killers.
Back in Medina with man is buried. There's no Khalifa.
The Sahaba are in a confusion. What should we do? Of course the Senior Companions Talhah
Zubayr Abel awam Ali Abunimah I'll be taller brother law 100 Man, even elf had passed away
with Man Of course it passed away. So there's not really only these few left of those 10 people promised paradise who were there at the time. They're inside of the city. They weren't sure what to do. Now, the people of fitna they realize they have a very serious issue on the head. Because armies are now coming.
The armies are coming from Syria.
The armies are coming from Iraq 1000s of warriors who are ready to take the life of every single person involved in any way in the killing of us men. And so it is to their advantage to a certain extent that something is done Khalifa should be there. They go to Ali they go to the Companions and many of the historians are actually saying that Ali was not did not want to take it.
He did not want to be involved. There is so much confusion and heartache that is there. But a
election Council is called
And in that council and tell her in Zubair, some say they were forced to come, but they came. And Ali was selected, because of course, Ali would stand out amongst all of the companions, who are left to be the Khalifa. And he is chosen as the Khalifa. Now, Ali radiola, one, who's an extremely
intelligent person, and he is considered to be one of the focal Ha, he is considered to be one of the wise people of the Muslim world. He realizes the importance of stability.
And this is the situation that we're dealing with. Now. The situation is, do we get the killers? Do we deal with intercom with that rage that's inside of us? Especially since they're sort of organized in a sort of they're in Medina itself? Do we deal with them? Or
do we deal with the leadership and the position of Ali radiola, one who realizes, now once he's in that position, he realizes that stability, political stability is important for the Oba. And you know, as a body, like any body, the head has got to be there, if you don't have your head for one night, for one second, the body is dead. So therefore, the head has to be there. And so the choice of the Khalifa. And when really when you read the texts about Ali's position, he was not against dealing with the killers. He wanted to deal with the killers. However, he felt that stability should be there. Once the ability is there, and we realize, you know, the rage is gone. Then we'll find the
killers. And even amongst the killers, if we're going to be just in the law, you have velocity. Remember the verse. Allah loves those who are just all of those people of fitna were not kill us. Some of them were even only against with mandus Khalifa.
But there were those who directly involved who needed to die according to Islamic law. So what do you do in this situation? This edition is the people of fitna come together.
And according to a lot, Awasum and Tabari. And some of the texts that we read,
we find that the people of fitna Abdullah bin Saba, of course, who takes the position because some people say, let us you know, let's run away let's, you know, what should we do? Even Saba takes the position, no intermingle, mix with the crowd, so that you will not be identified. And from that early time, they did not gather together like they used to gather together in order to organize the plot. And so the difficulty of this fitna is that the people who are involved on different levels were actually mixed in some of them were in the party of Ali himself, supposedly supporting the leadership. Others amongst them escaped, and they went back to Basra, of course, the bustle in Iraq
and in those areas, and so therefore, it was hard to actually tell who was who from amongst them. Certain names were known, but generally speaking, it was hard to tell who was who.
And so, in the middle of this, we find some disagreement.
I usually allow one ha and the Mothers of the Believers. They were set, they went to Mecca.
And they're in Mecca. Of course, she is very emotional. And she calls for the killers that the killers should be dealt with immediately. Before they escaped before they get away. Ali sends to Malia
and says what is your position now? But Malia is in doubt now what to do? And he doesn't respond for like months, three months.
He does not respond.
And so I Isha then Rhodiola Juana
is calling for
And she organizes and Callahans obeya leave Medina and they go to Mecca and they join her. Abdullah bin Zubia. Many other companions are with her. They are not against Ali. They don't say that he is not a melee minion, but they are calling for the killers to be dealt with. And they start to make movement toward Basra. Now, remember, Kufa and Basra these cities and in Basra itself.
In this area, they appeared to be those who would support Asia. So she started to move with her group there toward Basra itself. And when Ali heard about this, he gathered his forces, because he wanted to end this. Just deal with it. Because unless you can bring peace to the land, to stabilize the land, you can't govern. You can't have peace, without stability and without justice in the land. And so I issues forces then go to Basra, but
they are not finding people who are 100%. With them, there's division and bustle, and eventually, a skirmishes start to happen there. And all these forces arrive.
Now, the forces of Aisha radiAllahu much of her time, she was in bizarre itself, dealing with people, the forces of Ali, remember, there are the people of the fit. There there amongst his forces. There's also the people of the fitna who were in Basra, because they had returned from Medina and they were still there. They're not large a number but they are substantial. And so they are there and ISIS forces are there they have no intention of any fighting amongst the believers, the two camps are there and they actually correspond with each other.
You know, in a period of time, you know, goes by, but the fitna begins, how does the fitna continue, that that the forces of the seditious start to fight, and in the middle of the night, they begin fighting in the darkness. And so fighting starts to happen between the two sides. And this really is a horrible situation. Now this is probably the first time that Ali Rhodiola one he experiencing this, that I Isha de la is experiencing this, that groups of the believers are fighting against each other.
And Ali is crying and praying and not wanting this to happen.
I Isha then comes back, trying to stop the fight.
But it goes on and the confusion goes on. And finally, Ali and his forces are victorious.
But instead of killing all of the people remember what the verse is saying? And this is how you deal with people who are involved in this because how do you how do you deal with two forces fighting against each other which ataxia? There's nothing in the life of the province also love to see this. But remember the Sunnah of the hollowfibre Rashidi follow their sunnah as well. And Ali wrote the law when
he showed respect for the believers. And you said that even though you are fighting other Muslims, if you if you ruled a Muslim, on the other, you ruined your opponent, do not kill him.
If you enter into their homes, leave their families alone. You did not seize the property.
And once the fighting subsided, the forces of Asia
were allowed to go into the home of a rich individual in Basra and the wounded were dealt with
peace was established.
Ali read the law on showed respect for for Asia. And she was actually put into the How did the compartment you know on on her camel. And she was sent back, you know, to to Medina
or sent back to Mecca to hijas never to be involved in this politics in this confusion again for the rest of her life. And this is what is called the Battle of the Camel.
And that is because the camel of Asia ready lajuan And a lot of things went on because when the the people of fitness saw her camel coming to try to stop the fight they actually attacked her and so many people died defending her. So this is the Battle of the Camel. And it is reported
that close to 10,000 Muslims died in this battle in lillahi in LA Raji one. This is something never heard of before. But this is the fitna. How did Ali act controlled his emotion to the point where I Isha was reported to have said when speaking about Ali, she said we are not the enemies of Ali. He is the best of us is the best of our people.
And so that love is still there. And so he's able to make a solid. Even though this terrible fitnah lives are being taken, he's able to treat them with justice. That's the difference because in tribal warfare, you kill them all.
You have intercom your generations for three, four generations, you're still going to be fighting that tribe. Even in urban cities, there are gangs that fight each other for generations. But the Islamic way is if this fitna befalls you, and pieces made, give them the peace and deal in justice. And so, Ali, then seeing Baslow has so much confusion. He goes to Kufa This is the area of Abu
Abu Musa and actually read the law one great companion who supported Ali,
very pious, and Kufa becomes a support for Ali. And because of the confusion in Medina, with the Sedition Acts and whatnot, and then the people coming out of Mecca, Ali transfers his center of operations to Kufa. And so now we see why Kufa, then is selected. Because if you really look at the Muslim world, much of the Muslim world at the time, basically, after this Battle of the Camel is over, they accepted Ali as the Khalifa, except a sham Syria and the land where Mahalia radiola one was really. And so, this leads us to another very serious situation that the Companions find themselves in. Because Ali then sends messengers to Malia
What do you say now I have been chosen as the Khalifa. We need stability in the land. What is your position? And by Alia, turns back and no, he disagrees. And he does not accept Ali as the ultimate Khalifa until the killers are dealt with.
More objective historians look into this and they see that you read his writings. He's not actually saying I should be the Khalifa. Now, this is an important point. He was not fighting to be Khalifa he was the governor. While he a sherry was the wall he was the governor of Syria. He had enough material things he had enough power and control. He was not seeking this. He wanted to deal with his indecomm Remember, that shirt was still there.
He was given the responsibility to deal with this by the family directly by not ILA and so it is a deep situation for the content companions find themselves in

Although this is there,
he tries to negotiate and different negotiating teams are being sent to the other side, but my Alia is refusing. So therefore Ali gathers together the people of Kufa and Iraq and those of Mecca whoever who are supporting him, and he puts together an army of somewhere around 120,000 warriors 120,000 warriors, bow we are now takes counsel with his people, what should we do about this?
And they say you stand. And so they put together this different varying numbers 90,000 Plus warriors. So we're talking about this is a huge confrontation. This is not a small battle, you're talking about over 200,000 people potentially involved in this.
the Prophet SAW Salem spoke about this. And he said very clearly letter Komisar Hatha tactile, tactile feet attorney or the attorney Dawa Houma. Wahida. He said that the our will not begin
until two great groups fight one another. And there will be a great battle between them, although their call is one.
So this is part of the predictions of the Prophet peace and blessings be upon him when you see the different signs of the last days. There are minor signs and there are major signs. And then so this is one of the signs is the battle of Safin and this major confrontation again, to me
major groups, he predicts they're going to fight each other. And, but their call is one.
Ali radiola one Sahabi Jaleel a mirror meaning Mao era de la one Sahabi Julio Cata Cata Bill Ye, the governor of a sham,
who who's holding the responsibility to to to defy the revenge of the family and to bring back and many companions still in their hearts and even Ollie whenever he had a chance. You know, he would call for the killing of the killers of Whitman. He would call for it whenever he had a chance, because he wanted that to happen. So it was not a clear cut situation. But that's the fitna.
That is the fitna, because the danger of the fitna is that two sides, both sides think that they are correct.
And they come together and this is where the shaytaan will er the biller
gets involved. But that is where the fitness Now remember what you know the verse was saying, Finn Baba Yaga, an okra that if one side makes buddy, if it is the side which is the oppressive side, then you should fight the oppressor.
And the Prophet SAW Salem in one of his traditions, when he was speaking to Amara comes in different ways. He tells him that Amar will be killed by Alfie at Sabathia. This is inside a Muslim, that ummah will be killed by the aggressive oppressive party.
And it turns out that our Ma vinyasa Rhodiola one greats companion of Eliezer,
he is with Ali.
And so all these forces now are negotiating.
And they come together.
they're trying to negotiate, to try and to decide on 15 The Syria and Iraq that you know, today was not doing that lines drawn like that this happened during the colonial period. But it would fall I guess, in Syria. It's important because of its position, you know, by the by the reverse, and neither side really wanted to fight.
the negotiations are happening between the two sides. And there are a lot of different
narrations about this. There are some false narrations and basically to to go through this. We find that
Ali Read the last one.
He really didn't want to fight but something this fitna had to end. And so to arbitrate this,
Ali sent Abu Musa lashari
Roger Lowen and Malia sent Alma Everlast red alarm. And so, there are many false narratives about this.
And but the two sides came together. First, they basically made a declaration that the fighting would be postponed to, to Ramadan to let let it go straight to that Ramadan come, it would be postponed
and Ali returned to
this is where the confusion comes in, in terms of the of the narrations, but as it goes,
the people of fitna of course are there. And they're still struggling on Ali side. And Ali rhodiola, one and Mahalia after a series of skirmishes, skirmishes start to break out. So Ali now is in the area of suffering. He's He's, he's in suffering, and skirmishes start to break out between the two groups.
A number of skirmishes who was going to win, Allah knows best they believe is we're fighting each other. And this again, we're talking about two major groups.
Oliver the last one, right in the beginning,
he made a proposal and he said, Okay, instead of our two groups fighting Bioware you and I fight. Let's have a one on one duel, and the winner, his side will be the winner. Okay, but more Alia was a, you know, heavyset man and senior Ollie was lion
So there's no way he was going to fight Ali directly. So he refused that, and skirmishes started. And eventually, a major confrontation develops. And fighting goes on serious fighting. And now the problem that we have here, which which added fuel to the fire of fitna is that when the Muslims were fighting non Muslims, they had the belief of gender. They had this sober, the ability to hold the lion, regardless of the costs, and they would fight under all circumstances. And most of the other nations who are fighting, they're mercenaries and they're not fighting for anything, any high purpose. After a while they would run away and the Muslims Allah, Allah would put fear in the hearts
of the non Muslims. So they would run away and Muslims get could fight 10 to one 100 to one, this is two groups of Muslims fighting each other.
And so descriptions come of them fighting until they don't think they're on their knees fighting until their swords break until the arrows break till they throw stones at each other.
And it is critical. And Oliver the low one wanting to end this makes a major attack and it appears on the side as being victorious now, he wants to end this because this is too much. Wow. Yeah. Then and the people on the side they say okay, we can stop this. Take the Quran and put it on your spears. So they put it on their spears and they said, Let the Quran decide.
La hochma illa Allah. This is the statement Lao hokum Illa Allah, no judgment except from Allah.
And so they put their spears, they put the Corrado core pieces of the Quran on their spears. And of course, when all these forces saw that they stopped. And so then the fighting then stopped and negotiations
continued, how are we going to get out of this, the major negotiators are sent Ali then
he goes back to Kufa
his representative Abu Musa Lashley. And then Amaya Belaz representing Mahalia, they are negotiating, but the negotiations then break down.
And this causes a major confusion.
Because it is a fitna, Ollie is a mirror mode meaning
he is the one that is writing in scholars and historians will say that he was correct. But it was a gray area while he was there, the emotion that everybody in the Muslim world had to deal with the killers. And some of these people of fitna were actually embedded with the forces of rally, they still had to deal with them. And so this is a problem. This is a confusion. How should we deal with this? Ollie then goes back to Kufa that is as base. And when he goes back to his base, a large group of his followers about 12,000 they succeed to a place called Hara.
And when they succeed, succeed to this place, a new type of development begins. We're already dealing with one form of fitna, this is another form.
I would say if you look at this and odd terms, people are traumatized. So it's one trauma over another trauma, you other Muslims, everybody's saying a lot of work by dying, you know like this, you don't know which way to go, it's a gray area. Then they say let the Quran decide. The negotiators negotiate, but they cannot come to a conclusion.
What should we do? So a type of mental problem develops. And we have mental health within our communities. And I believe some of the leaders in the Muslim world have mental health issues. And if you look at Islamic history, you'll see some of the leaders had mental health issues. They were not acting like normal human beings, when they talk about when away their jaw Helia comes in the ignorance then comes when the consciousness of Allah leaves and so they find themselves in this situation and a new movement starts to develop and this is a group called El Hawa ditch. And we will be studying this major sect and what has developed out of it and how the fitna then begins to
subside and how the companions are dealing. It is an ongoing story, but it is affecting us up until today.
And although many of the
Scholars of Addis Ababa Juma would not spend that much time in dealing with this. Because of the different groupings that are still around causing confusion, lying on the Companions, it is important for us to hear it from the side of the sunnah to hear from the side of of the the righteous companions and those are authenticated scholars who have brought us information that we can look at an objective way. It's a gray area. There are mistakes being made on all sides. But the scholars of the Sunnah say very clearly say that our alley color colorable law or watch her read the law one. He was correct. He was a Maryland what we need
and he should have been followed. And it was a major mistake to go against a Maryland what we need in this and so we leave at this point. With the armies now settled down over 30,000 people have perished in Lillahi wa inna, elated on June. This is a fitna it is now subsiding but another flame is starting to come up and inshallah we want to look in the coming session. What happens out of this new flame and how the believers deal with this and bring back peace and stability to the Muslim world. I leave you with this thought and I pray that Allah would protect you protect me from fitna, our families from fitna our children from fitna our communities from fitna the Muslim world from
fitna May Allah bring us out of these trials and civil wars and sedition and bring us to a state of unity and peace and forgive those who have made mistakes while they were trying to be on the path.
