Seerah Moments #18 The Battle of the Trench

bla Bismillah Alhamdulillah wa salatu salam ala Rasulillah Assalamu alaykum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh. My dear brothers and sisters,

the next event I want to talk about Inshallah, Allah is a great event, which Allah subhanaw taala separated the believers and those who are hiding the hypocrisy. It is an event that took place in the fifth year of the Hijra. Now the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam had gone through the Battle of budder, going through the Battle of jihad in the second year, and then the third year of the hijra, the Quraysh from Makkah, and those surrounding areas, they did not want to give up, and they did not want the Muslims to rest. So the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam and the believers had to face another great trial. In what is known as the Battle of the hunt duck, the word conduct

actually means a trench. The battle or this incident also has another name, which is called maraca to Al Ahzab, or the Battle of the Confederates. What happened is that one of the tribes in El Medina called Belluno beers Bennu innovate, they were expelled from Medina for breaking one of the agreements with the Muslims. And they went to go and live in an area called Al Haber. Now, this particular tribe were not happy with being expelled. Although it was, of course, completely justified because they had broke a number of agreements with the Muslims, which involved breaking the trust this particular tribe when one or the other, that they went to or went to Makkah, and they

spoke to the Mexicans and they said, listen, that you and us we have a similar enemy, and the other Muslims and Muhammad sallallahu alayhi salam in Medina.

Why don't we come together to make up an army to put Medina under siege. This was a very good idea from the on behalf of the polytheists of Mk. So they decided also to speak to the other tribes like Benoit fun, and other tribes that they would all come together in 1000s and undertake a great battle a great siege in Medina, which they had previously failed in the 30 after hijra, in the Battle of odd, they were unsuccessful because the Muslims still resided and still had power Alhamdulillah in Medina, this news reached the Prophet salallahu alayhi wa sallam that the enemies of Islam were coming together to put Medina under siege, and put them at great risk. We know that the Muslims were

only about 3000 in number, and the non Muslims who are going to the medina under siege, were numbering more than 10,000. Now 10,000 at that particular time was an army the size of an army which was quite unknown. In the Arabian Peninsula, you'd find in Persia, and in the Roman Empire and the Byzantine Empire that they would quite easily have armies of 20 or 30, or 40, if not, 50, maybe 100,000. However, in the Arabian Peninsula, where it was very difficult for people to move from one place to the next, or people coming together with 10,000 was unheard of. So the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam immediately thought of a solution and how to protect Medina how to protect the

Muslims and

underlying that how to protect Islam. So the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam spoke to the Companions and he asked them What shall we do with such a great army which may be approaching and Medina, the famous companion Salman and Pharisee are the Allahu Allah, the companion who was from Persia. He had a brilliant suggestion. He said, O Messenger of Allah, that there were times in Persia, when people were going to be surrounded in a very small area to protect themselves, that they will build a trench. Why don't we build a trench? Now in Medina, if somebody is to see it from a bird's eye view, you will see that essentially it has two entrances into the city. Now and Medina

from the one side has a very large open area which is very easy for somebody to enter into Medina. And then there's the other side, the opposite area, where it is a very small area where people can enter into El Medina. But seeing that the Muslims Alhamdulillah they had an agreement with one of the tribes in Medina which would protect them from that small side when Medina what was upon them was to defend only one side of El Medina. So the Muslims from the command of the Prophet salallahu Salam based upon the advice of Solomon and Pharisee not the Allahu I know that they were to build a great trench. And here the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam participated as well as Abu Bakr and

Umar Radi Allahu Anhu man, olive oil, even Earthman you know, the great companions melas Puranas I'd be pleased with the more that they would take the clothes and they would place the soil and the Torah into their clothes Subhanallah working day in day out to build this great trench to defend the Muslims to defend the women to defend that

children and to defend the deen of Allah subhana wa Tada.

So this particular trench was built. And then when the enemies of Islam they came to surround and Medina, they put al Medina Subhanallah under siege for a number of weeks. When the Muslims were under siege, it was very, very difficult for them in that they were unable to leave in the medina to bring in any resources or provisions. So they were running out of food and they were running out of water, because of the great siege of all the different tribes of Arabia surrounding the Muslims. And at this particular time, Allah subhanaw taala revealed yet revealed parts of a surah which we know as Surah toll hazard, which is the chapter number 33 of the Quran, I would revise remind you,

brothers and sisters to go through this particular chapter, and remind ourselves of how Allah subhanaw taala described this particular situation that the Muslims were going through,

and how Allah subhanaw taala distinguishes between the believers and the hypocrites, those who hid their Islam. And those were internally or underground working against the Muslims. At a time like this Allah jell O Allah was able to expose and show the Muslims who those those people were really working for Islam, and those people who were working against Al Islam. And we take the benefit from this particular situation that even though there may be a great difficulty for the Muslims, we still find that Allah subhanaw allows the Muslims to find those who are really striving and struggling for the deen of Allah subhanaw taala and those who are actually not striving and struggling for the deen

of Allah subhanaw taala in fact working against the Muslims. So even with these trials and tribulations, Allah subhanaw taala allows the Muslims to take great benefit from these great trials. So the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam make dua to Allah subhanaw taala that Allah Allah Allah protect the Muslims, women, children and everyone who is residing in Medina, Allah subhanaw taala revealed yet saying that the reaction of the believers was a show on an a strength, show of strength of their Iman, and the behavior of those who wanted to go back to their homes and saying this is the place where you can find sanctity, this is where you can be protected. This is how Allah subhanaw

taala showed the behavior of those hypocrites.

After a while the Prophet salallahu alayhi wa sallam said to the Companions, who will stand up who will get up from amongst themselves and go and find out news from the

tribes that had surrounded in Medina.

So the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam addressed the companions and said who will stand up and go and get the news from the camp of the disbelievers they would put the Muslims under siege, bearing in mind that Allah subhanaw taala had sent a great storm ray to all of the areas where nobody was able to cook, nobody was able to rest nobody was able to sleep Subhan Allah because of the strong wind that Allah subhanaw taala sent amongst them. And Allah Allah Allah makes special reference to this in the Quran that Allah subhanaw taala protected the believers, the Muslims by sending this great storm, which the non Muslims were unable to make any food and take any rest. For this reason,

the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam sent or wanted to send one of the companions to find out what they were actually doing. This particular battle even though it is called a battle, there was no great shedding of blood or people fighting on the battlefield. Rather only a few skirmishes happened between the a couple of people. So this was a battle which Allah subhanaw taala showed the believers that victory could be given to them. Even though Subhanallah no lives were taken when he learned Hamed no one stood up. So the Prophet sallallahu added some sauce for a second time and nobody stood up. Remember, this was a time where there was a great amount of fear in the hearts of

all of the Muslims and Allah Allah Allah makes a special reference to this also in the Quran. The Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam pointed to one of the companions that companion in his name was proliferative Nordea man on the Allahu en. A beautiful, beautiful side story is that many many years later, that hold over 10 million man Radi Allahu Anhu he was sitting with his students and his companions and he said that we love the messenger sallallahu alayhi wa sallam so much his students said, yeah Khalifa. If we were with you, if we were with you at the time of the messenger, salallahu alayhi salam, we would not have allowed the messenger sallallahu alayhi salam to walk on the floor,

we would have carried him everywhere. Then Khalifa the Allahu Anhu mentioned this particular story to them to remind them that sometimes it is easy to Pro to proclaim our love for a situation or even a person however living a reality with that individual may be completely different. So Khalifa Radi Allahu Anhu. He explained that the prophets I seldom chose him to go in the dark of night. It was very cold, very windy. However, he made that journey. And he said Radi Allahu Anhu that I did not feel scared, and I did not feel cold at all. Subhan Allah, Allah Subhana Allah protected me by the dua of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam. Then he reached into

I read the ranks of the disbelievers and the disbelievers. were arguing and discussing the situation above Sophia and who was the head of them at that time, said, what are we doing here we are unable to enter Medina, we cannot eat anything, we cannot sleep, we cannot rest. What are we supposed to do? We don't even know if even one of the Muslims has entered the ranks. And then everybody started to look at each other. Hopefully, if it didn't, the man or the alarm was a very clever individual, who later said to the man next to him, Are you one of the Muslims? Just in case that person was going to ask him? He was very quick to say, Are you one of the Muslims demanded, I am not one of the

Muslims. This top the individual asked me for the for the Allahu Anhu where he had come from then once Khalifa de la and got all the information, and that was Sofia. And he said, that's enough. I've had enough. I'm going to get all the stuff all of our tribes we are going back to MK that Allah subhanaw taala defeated them, the Muslims Alhamdulillah defeated them, even though they didn't have to raise their sword or any of their bows and arrows, Allahu Akbar. So Allah subhanaw taala defeated this army and they returned, when has he mean that they they return to their homes are defeated only then the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said after this victory, that from this day, we will go

to them and we will fight them and that they will never come back to us. And we know that looking at the life of the messenger SallAllahu Allahu alayhi wa sallam that never once again that those enemies of Islam are tried to attack Medina again. Rather the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam and the Muslims had the ability by Allah, genuineness, Qadr and success. They were able to go to the rest of the Arabian Peninsula and deliver the message of Islam to people with a loyal hand. And we take great benefit from this that never to give up even though the odds are stacked against us stacked against us. BarakAllahu li Walakum wa Salaamu Alaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh
