Prophet Muhammad sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said that one thing a Muslim is entitled to from another Muslim, is that a one Muslim sneezes, and they say, as Muslims, after we sneeze, we say Alhamdulillah we praise God, we praise Allah. And the person responds to that person by saying you're humbled Allah, that may Allah have mercy on you, may God have mercy on you. And this might seem like a really strange, trivial thing at first, but there's actually a lot of wisdom behind it. You know, imagine, maybe you've ridden the subway, or you've written the public transportation on bus or something like that.
Have you ever been in a situation where somebody's going through something, and everybody's just kind of awkwardly to themselves, no one's connecting with anybody else, no one's kind of monitoring how anybody else is doing. I mean, we see it every day on social media where somebody, they might get attacked, or they might be, you know, bullied or made fun of. And regretfully, most people these days, their attitude is just to, to watch or take out their phones and take a video. It's not my business, or I don't want to intervene, or I don't want to interfere.
So this sort of thing that we're supposed to do, and we respond to somebody who sneezes is about developing sensitivity to the situation of other people. We're not just going to walk around with our noses in our phones, or our noses in our books, and just be worried about us. No, you have to be sensitive to people around you. What are they going through, somebody just sneezed. Somebody's having a bad day. Somebody looks nervous. Somebody looks like they could really use someone to talk to.
When we take a second and reach out and make a human connection, this is something that makes everybody's life better. And that's part of the wisdom behind this thing that we do when people sneeze
