Cover their Faults

And I'll tell you basically why I'm saying that it should be noted for you a few incidents small though they might be and all of them are incidents that point to one of what seems to have become our major preoccupation.

When I say our I mean the preoccupation of Muslims, which is to correct other people, right to correct other Muslims basically it's to protect other Muslims and usually it is to correct our teachers to correct our oil ama to correct our issue

to correct those people who take the time and trouble to leave whatever else they are doing in order to study the religion and to try to try to present it to you in a way that saves you from the hard work of learning it yourself. And usually the

the things they get for that is to recover the targets for people taking potshots.

Let me give you a give give a few examples.

I was

until I got to almost the last person and this was a young man in his 20s

and I said Salam alikoum he said while ago Salah, you forgot to recite one I attend sort of Hush.

I said Which one? He said hola hola de la ilaha illa Huwa Shahada t hora, what?

And I realized that I had forgotten.

So I said thank you very much. And I left that's it yet he had nothing else to say only this

From the perspective of cricket is not a mistake if the man forget forgets to recite a particular if it's not, it's not a problem there is no saho involved. There were probably a couple of 100 people in that must use who prayed and I'm sure he was not the only one who noticed that, but none of them considered it important enough to tell me whereas this

Even the leaving of the particular is one out of a number which you are reciting is not a problem. Alhamdulillah so what am I supposed to do with this information? I'm not complaining, I'm just explaining to you how people correct and why we should correct in a different way. Another another case, I was teaching a course on Sierra and it This was in Malaysia. And the last lecture of the course was in the night by the

time it finished was about half past nine. And I'm talking about the Shama Allah so salam, I'm talking about his duty and his and everything and a lot about his sera sadhana and so on and so forth. Now, when that whole thing finished in Malaysia that of course, women and men also in the same in the same Hall, so there was one woman,

again, a younger woman who stayed back. And to the extent that when everybody had left is only me and my friend Shanahan, who was the organizer of the whole event, just the two of us were there, and this one single lady.

So and this is about 930 in the night.

So as we were leaving, I said to her family, come, can I help you? Is there anything you need from me? She said, You drank water with your left hand.

That's it. You drank water with your left hand. Now.

I didn't say that to drink water with your left hand is Jaya is it is good. It will take you to Jana to drink water with your right hand is haram. I didn't say it just so happened that you know when you are in that day, there was no bike stand. So they gave me a handheld mic and I'm a right handed person. So the mic was in my right hand. And somebody put a put a bottle of water on my left hand. So I was talking all day and my throat got dry. So I picked it up and I drank this water with my left hand completely. You know, I'm thinking I was busy describing the beauty of Rosaura Salaam, I was not thinking about this particular thing. Yes, it was a mistake. But this lady thought it was,

you know, she had to tell me that

she waited till 930 in the night, when the whole thing is over before going home, where she tells me Do you drink water with your left hand? Again, what am I supposed to do with it now?

So I said, my usual response, I said thank you very much.

And I left to give you a third incident that this incident happened in a Masjid and I will not mention the masjid and so on. But it is a true incident like the others. I know the mosque is I know the people I know the person. I mean, I have heard about the person involved in this incident. And that is that there was an elderly guy, Adam origin. Maybe his grandparents came to America, and which is probably over a century ago. And they got completely lost in the American society and so on and so forth. He knew almost nothing about Islam. But he was a Muslim, and a Muslim. He worked for the City Council for the city government.

So one day he met somebody, some other Muslim brother who told him Look, we have a budget and so on. Why don't you come? So he said, Sure. And he came. And he liked what he was seeing there. So he came and he sat in the budget, he would sit in the back on one of the chairs. And he did that a few times.

He just he would just sit there and he would watch

and whatever was going on. Now one day when Salah finished he was sitting in the back when Salah finished one hour. Mussolini's one of the one of the people bring the module one of the brothers.

He gets up he comes to this guy. He asked him, Are you a Muslim?

The answer is yes.

So why are you not playing with us?

The man said, you know, I'm sorry. I don't know how to pray.

Now, before I tell you what happened, tell me what would you do in that situation? Right? To the matter? I don't know. I don't know how to pray.

If I wanted that situation, I would say to him fantastic. Would you like to learn Shall I teach you now? Are you free? Oh, you want to come back another time?

Because I know that if I teach him to pray, then he's praying. Then every time you praise Allah is giving me some credit for that.

But you know what happened on that day?

What happened on that day was this man asked him, I almost think he said, Yes. Why didn't you pray with us? The man says, I'm sorry, I don't know how to pray. This man says to him, I'm too ashamed of yourself.

And you ashamed of yourself. You're so old and you don't know how to pray.

That man had better luck than his character.

So he got up. And he left. And he never came back.

He never came back. I know for a fact that some of the brothers they went to him, they met him. They heard about the incident and they went to him and met him. They apologized. And they said to him, please come back to the machine and so on. He said, No.

He said, I'm done with that. I have no desire to be insulted. Sorry.

Last incident, last incident before I come to what we should be doing.

Recently, somebody sent me a video about

supposedly purportedly made by somebody who called himself Mufti and he uses the name of one of our great scholars.

If you look at his face and his shape, you know that this guy cannot be a Mufti because from his appearance itself, there are so many

actual rulings of Islam that he is violating that I cannot understand that somebody who call himself a Mufti looks like him or dresses like him. But anyway, he called himself Mufti. And something and I later on, checked, and people told me no, no, you don't know why he is very, he's very famous. And he is very popular in Allahu LA. Anyway. So he made this video criticizing the opinion of somebody else. And this is one of the shoe

in our lives. He did that. And he answered somebody's question about a particular matter. And this guy, the so called Mufti didn't like that answer. So he makes a video where he calls the other person, he takes his name, he calls him by name, he says, uh, what their opinion was, and he is laughing and he's just alleging and he's falling off his chair. And he's mocking him. And he's, you know, doing all kinds of obscene gestures. I mean, it was an absolutely horrible video.

And a classic case of how not to correct

a classic case of exposing the force of people. My brothers and sisters The reason I began with all this is because so that you should know that I'm not

joking or I'm not just, you know, thinking and talking about something which is

fictitious, this is real. This is real. This is our, one of our biggest problems. It's a cancer in our Muslim society. distante the massage this tendency to point fingers to correct a so called correct people.

And, you know, before I go anywhere, look at this beautiful little bit, absolutely. fantastically,

small little thing, which just dropped into my lap.

So this, this tankini massage of ours, which really is a cancer in our society, and it's a cancer because the one doing the correction is in the lap of shaitan is sitting in the level of arrogance. There's a basic principle in Islam, that the cure must not aggravate the problem, and must not create a worse situation.

And today, really, when I see the way in which people correct one another, I am forced to ask if they really want to correct the individual, or whether the purpose is to humiliate that person and to stroke their own egos.

Today our class seems to have gone from bad to worse to worst.

Please remember, the others do not see our belief. They see our behavior. And when they ask and then they ask cry that behavior to Islam and to rassada salon not to us, they don't say aside or Barker did this they say a Muslim did this a follower of Mohammed Salah Salem did this.

criticizing and finding fault with others seems to be a major occupation of ours today. It is a cancer that divides us and takes away our collective strength.

The question is, what must you do, if you see someone making a mistake, and you want to correct it.

So let us see how we correct people and remember that Allah subhanaw taala is watching my submission do is the best way to correct is not to correct at all. It is to make dua and ask Allah subhanho wa Taala, to forgive your brother or sister. But don't engage with them at all. Don't say anything.

Now, if you are in one of those who is really, absolutely dying to correct somebody, and they are if you find that this fault is so enormous and so severe, and so problematic, that you need to correct, right, so first of all, you need to check, what is the nature of this fault? Is it really so huge and so massive?

And if you think that it is,

then I've got five questions that I suggest you ask yourself.

Number one question,

check your own ego, check your own ear, and ask yourself why do you want to correct this person?

Are you really interested in the welfare of that person? Or is it about your own ego? You want to show off what you know? Or what you think, you know,

not to does that thing needs correction? And is that the right time?

Both are important? He did is that the right time to correct that person. Because sometimes, you say something at the wrong time. And it has a worse effect than it began when I told you the basic principle is the cure must not be worse than the

than the problem.

The Cure was not be worse than the problem. So

does that need correction? And is that the right time? number three? Are you the best person to correct that person? Or maybe there is somebody else? Who is a better person, somebody who has a better influence on that individual? Who might be the better person to correct that individual? For thing is the way you want to correct the person.

Is that the best way? So reflect on how you were intending to speak to that person or correct the person ask yourself, Is this the best way to do that? And finally, very importantly, ask yourself in this way of correction, am I protecting the dignity and feelings of that individual? That this is very, very important to ask these questions, because without that, our correction cannot be right.

Now remember what was said, about covering each other's faults. He said, Allah subhanho wa Taala will cover the faults of the one who covers the faults of his brother, and he will expose the one who exposes the faults of his brother, Malika Lally

said that he said I knew people who had a lot of knowledge, but who Allah subhanho wa Taala, humiliated because they exposed others. They use their knowledge to express arrogance and expose others. And he said I knew I know other people who do not have that kind of knowledge. But Allah subhanaw taala has given them huge followings, Allah has given them put their love into the hearts of people. Allah subhanho wa Taala has given them

huge influence, because they cover the force of others.

And he said that if Allah wants to expose you, he will expose you even if you are in the innermost part of your house, in another heavy solar cell, and a person asked that we sell a cell and he came and said, Yes, well, I have the sword and our slave and he makes a lot of mistakes. And I try to you know,

exercise wasn't isn't the best belief about this person and I try to

I want to end with there are many stories, but I want to end with a couple of them to help you understand has an impact on who you're talking about how to correct I told you some stories about bad correction. Let me tell you some stories about good correction hasn't been a lay of the land.

And at that time, he was a young man, maybe a boy or something teenager maybe when

he came to the masjid and he noticed an elderly person doing Judo incorrectly.

And then he notices and he says, aha, now he's making a little differently from what I did. So here is hasn't been added on the line who who is making gudo and he's making it correctly. The man's dignity is not, is not attacked. The man is an elderly person. Here is a young boy maybe he's the grandson of the professor, but still is a young boy. And I have an elderly person. The boy does not abused me he does not tell me anything. He does not point a finger. He is making Moodle. He is not even pretending to show him how to make Moodle. He is making auto everybody's making Maxwell do to go into that room and go into the masjid for Salah hasn't been earlier on the line who's making Moodle? The man looks at him and he learns his own lesson.

incident number two,

a young boy comes a teenager comes to us.

And he says to Yasser Allah Salallahu alaihe salam, please permit me to do sinner. Permit me to commit adultery? Now imagine think about this thing. What kind of completely crazy situation is this? Here is this young boy, he comes to the Prophet salallahu alayhi wa aalihi wa sahbihi wa sallam, when he's sitting in the masjid with his companions around him with the Sahaba around him. And obviously that must have consisted of many of the seniors the Sahaba this young boy comes and he he's asking the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam to make halaal for him what Allah made Haram

is a jasola please permit me to commit Zina.

Please permit me to commit adultery.

Now imagine the situation of that boy, now here's this young boy he is, you know, his hormones are running riot. He is literally in trouble, right? And he doesn't know what to do with themselves. So he says jasola please commit, allow me to commit Zina.

Nasir was the opposite of the Sahaba who are with him. You know, Michelle is on notice that people who are getting irritated, getting angry and maybe somebody started to get up

to, you know, to teach this boy some lessons in other bin manners of how to talk to the Prophet sallallahu wasallam past he just signal to them

stay away, do nothing, say nothing. Then he said to this boy.

The boy came and told him said, The boys are sitting right in front of us realize, Allah. So Allah what kind of people were these? Imagine what kind of opportunities Allah gave them. So here is this boy, he comes and sits in front of assessor says to him, tell me, would you like somebody to commit Zina to commit adultery with your mother?

Those are all i aerosol? Of course not.

11 No, he also

says, Would you like somebody to commit adultery with your sister?

No, of course not. He says, Would you like somebody? If you had a daughter? Would you like somebody to commit adultery with your daughter?

No, of course not.

Nobody's ever said I'm just to him. whoever you want to commit adultery with is somebody's mother. or somebody's daughter, or somebody's sister.

Now the boy learned his lesson. Now, it doesn't end there. The story doesn't end there.

Rasulullah sallallahu then puts his blessed hand on this boy's chest. He puts His blessed hand on his boys chest.

And he makes dua for this boy

says

Aloha.

Aloha, aloha Mata here.

He says Oh ALLAH forgive you since Oh Allah purify his heart.

And he says Oh Allah protect his chastity.

That imagine this, the door of the Navy Allah Salam salam wa salam is not restricted in diamond space. It does not mean when he says Oh ALLAH forgive his sins, it does not mean till today and from tomorrow you can punish him It doesn't when he says, Oh Allah,

purify his heart, it doesn't mean until now and after that it can become dirty. No product is just up to today. Not not here after No. For the rest of that boy's life and imagine what is the ultimate destination of that boy, who is going in this world from that moment forward with the daughter of Rasulullah sallallahu Sallam asking Allah subhanho wa Taala to forgive his sins to purify his heart and to protect his chastity till the end of his days that is how he remains and inshallah Muslim. No, he sees this. He sees his sincerity and he makes draft for him. He cures his problem and he makes draft for him for the rest of his life. My last story about Mahara. Remember the name Abu Mohammed

Salim is going after Fatah Maka rasulillah. Salam decided with the light Allah. Allah subhanho wa Taala to go to Thai to take his army to dive to subdue the people of life. So when they are called Rasulullah sallallahu Sallam asked them.

You were making fun of Satan, I believe.

They knew there was no way of hiding that. So they pointed to one of them. And that man's name was Abu Maha Dora. And that's why I told you remember the name Abu Bahadur

Now imagine if you are in that position, if you are in the position of Ababa, what is going on in your mind? I mean, seriously, he was probably thinking that this is the end. They wouldn't even think twice before ordering his execution to be an example to stand as an example for every anyone else who dared to do such a thing in the future. Right? Nobody, none of them would have hesitated to do that.

But what does the Prophet sallallahu Sallam do? He called him he said, Come here, he sits above Adora sitting in front of the solar system says to him, shall I teach you how to do how to call the other?

Shall I teach you how to call the other?

The imagine what is going on in his head? Believe me. There is no way in the world that our madora would have expected that comment or that question from the Navy alehissalaam

did not even refer to the inserra didn't tell him you know, why did you do that and this is wrong.

Nothing he didn't mention the incident. He said would you like me to teach you how to call the other?

The reason I'm saying he didn't refer to the incident was because he didn't try to humiliate the guy he didn't try to tell him in in the direct terms or indirect terms. Are you a fool? What's wrong with you? Who brought you up who dragged you up? You know don't have any manners don't have any UCLA you make fun of somebody who's calling to Allah subhanho wa Taala you know what kind of an idiot and he didn't say any. He did not refer to the incident at all.

This is like a normal conversation between two people. He's saying Would you like me to teach you how to call the other

So when you see somebody making mistakes a Allah I have made much bigger mistakes on that are you covered them you did not allow people to see them so people respect me

while I'm make this a witness for me for you to cover my mistakes in this life and in the next one.

And as I told you if there is if the mistake is of a I'm not telling would never correct I'm saying if the mistake is such that you think you really should correct then check your near
