There are many answers to this question. But in summary, bad things happen because this life is a test. Allah subhanaw taala says in the Quran, that Allah is the one who has created death and life in order to test us in order to see as to which of us perform good deeds. hardships in life only make sense to us when we understand why we are here. Who who we belong to, and what the purpose of our existence is.

Allah (SWT) is able to do anything He wishes to do. If that is indeed true, why do bad things happen to us? Why does evil exist in this world? Can’t Allah (SWT) prevent anything bad from happening?
