The Importance of Having High Aspirations

This is the topic which

at its most fundamental

stage, it is a mindset, a mindset of having high aspirations of having high ambitions. Today, there are many people, or some people who offer the service, where they are professionals, therapists and coaches and so on. And what they charge money for. And what they train people to do is have the mindset of having high aspirations. They teach people how to have high aspirations and how to set higher goals. And then they teach them and they tell them how to achieve those goals in attainable steps. This is a science which has developed now and which is lucrative people charge money for this. And it is lucrative because it is something which people need to have high ambitions and to

have high aspirations. As humans, it is part of our nature that we always want to do more. We want to do great things that we want to excel in our own way. And that doesn't necessarily mean excelling in terms of religion and worship. But he may be that a person wants to excel in terms of earning money, or in terms of their career, or in terms of their business, or in terms of any other idea and dream that they may have. And so these people will help those individuals attain those dreams and set out those dreams and, and get into those ambitions that they have set for themselves. But this issue of having high aspirations and high ambitions isn't one that is only to do with the dunya. And

to do with, for example, business and money and jobs and careers and professions. It is also one to do with our religion. It is something which we should have when it comes to our worship of Allah subhanho wa Taala. And it is from that perspective, of course, that we're going to discuss this topic tonight. But much of what I will say also goes in terms of having high aspirations, in terms of things that are in the dunya that is also part of our religion, that we aspire in terms of our careers and in terms of earning money and in terms of what we dream of for our children. There is nothing wrong so long as those goals are not Haram in and of themselves. There is nothing wrong with

having those aspirations and those dreams as well. They go hand in hand. For always as is the case in our religion, our main priority is to please Allah subhanho wa Taala. So this concept in our religion of how having high aspirations that is something which is mentioned in the Quran, it is something which is mentioned in the Sunnah of our Prophet salallahu alayhi wasallam It is something which you will find that the scholars of Islam and the starting from the companions and then the subsequent generations that came after them, all of them strived to do this, to have high aspirations, to have high ambitions. There is a word in our religion that is given for this concept.

And that word in Arabic in our religion in the texts in the Quran, and the sooner is the word son, son. Son means loosely translated, it means excellence, to excel, to have high ambitions and higher have high aspirations. It is to excel excel in the way that you think excel in your mindset. excel in your actions, exactly in your character and in your deeds. It is excellence and son are excellent is something which you will find this word repeated often in the Quran. And in the Sunnah of our Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam. One of the main reasons of our creation and existence upon this world is to achieve your son. Allah subhanho wa Taala says in Surah mulk to Baraka levy big hill

And if you look in the translation of this verse, you will find that the translation often is that Allah is testing us equated life and death to test us

to see which one of us is best indeed. Not good. Not acceptable, not just meeting the minimum standards.

But to see which one of us is best indeed which one of us excels in deeds. And this word accent for those of you that have an elementary grasp of the Arabic language, you have some Arabic Foundation, you know that there is a verb in the Arabic language that is called a smooth tough way to give something preference, preferential treatment. And it works in Arabic on the wasn't of a file. Anything that comes on that wasn't on that type of style of a file. It comes into this category of Ismet of when Kabir in Arabic language means big, but when you want to say bigger you say Akbar more bigger. Severe means small. Azhar means smaller, Jamil means beautiful. html means more beautiful.

Likewise acen falls into that same type of wasn't that same style? its root word is hasn't hasn't means God hasn't been something which is good. So when Allah subhanaw taala created me and you and he placed us upon this earth, with all of its beauties and all of us adornments and it is a test that he created this life and death to see which one of us will be able to pass in this test. Allah subhanho wa Taala wanted to see which one of us would Excel who would be excellent in their deeds, not just do the minimum, not just pass, not just do even though we know from the Sunnah of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, that if we do the minimum, that is enough to enter into Jannah the Bedouin man came to the Prophet sallallahu alayhi

wa sallam and he said, O Messenger of Allah, I testify in the laws oneness and the You are the Messenger of Allah. And I will pray my five daily prayers and I will give my second I will first in the month of Ramadan, and I will perform Hajj once in my lifetime, but I will neither do more than this nor less, meaning I will do my obligations, and I won't increase and I won't decrease. And then the man left who was a Bedouin Arab, and they were known to be blunt and abrupt in their manner, he left so the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said, If Lucha will lie in southern, this man by Allah will be successful, if he is truthful in what he says, meaning if he performs what he said,

then he will have success. Because when you do the bare minimum, you have that success. But as humans, we also know that we commit sins. So yes, we do good deeds, but then we commit many sins as well. Yes, we perform obligations. But then there are many obligations and responsibilities that we also for shorten, to have that balance of just meeting the minimum, so that the balance is level, it is a balance that is neither here nor there, it is extremely difficult. No one has that precise measurement available to them. So therefore, when a large soldier tells us how our mindset should be in this dunya, it should be a mindset of excellence. Because if you have excellence in the way that

you worship Allah, in the way that you approach your religion, in the way that you want to pray, and in the way that you want to fast, and excellent simply means in layman's terms, to try your utmost best to do the best that you can do. That doesn't mean that you will do anything similar to what you read in the stories of the companions and or mentioned some of them, does it mean that we will reach and excel the heights that those followers of Islam reached, doesn't necessarily even mean that you will be as good as the person sitting next to you. But what it does mean is that you have tried your utmost best. Because when you reach that level of excellence, it is a personal thing. It is

something that you strive to do. And when you reach that level, then you can better it and do more. And when you reach a better level, you can again better it and do more and that's why it is what affiliate is something which continues to give more and more. You continue to excel and you continue to improve. So Allah azza wa jal tells us that this is how our mindset should be. If in this month of Ramadan that just passed. You did x, y and Zed good deeds, your next Ramadan should be better. That's exactly if before Ramadan, you had a certain routine in terms of your worship, then after Ramadan post Ramadan, there should be a small amount of increase even if it is small, but

Everything that you do you try to do the little bit extra little bit more to come closer to Allah subhanho wa Taala.

This concept therefore of a sun is one that is mentioned. It is mentioned in the Sunnah of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam in the famous hadith of gibreel, long hadith of gibreel when he came in the form of a man and he came to the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, and the Hadith in Bukhari and Muslim and he came and he sat, and he asked a number of questions to the prophet SAW Allah, Allah will sell them. He asked him about Islam, and he asked him about Eman. And the third thing that he asked him about was this concept of a sun. What is the sun? yuroke it is to worship Allah as though you see him and even if you are unable to see him than to know that he always sees you. That is the definition of a son in terms of how you approach a son and how you attain that level of his son.

Son an excellence in a practical way. It is to have the high level of taqwa of consciousness of Allah azza wa jal of piety of God fearing pneus that you always remember that Allah subhana wa Taala is watching that Allah He is you that Allah knows everything about you. though I may fool everyone else around me, I cannot fool myself deep down on Allah azzawajal it is that sense that is calling his son. That ability to recognize your own self and your limitations. that we say because we don't want to do something. Even if we make excuses we know our own reality and our truth situation, and Allah azza wa jal knows. So you worship Allah as if you see him. And obviously we do not see Allah subhana wa Taala. We cannot see Allah azzawajal physically in this life. It is a mindset that Allah azza wa jal knows that Allah hears and that Allah sees, and that a large soldier is recording everything that we do, and he will hold us to account for it. And therefore even though you cannot see him, the know that he sees you, that is how our Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam described the Sun, Sun is mentioned in a number of other Hadith from

amongst them is the famous Hadith in which the Prophet said Son Allah, it will sell them in Mullah cuttable if Santa Allah cliche, Indeed Allah has legislated and prescribed excellence in every single thing. Everything that we do, Allah has legislated prescribed for us that we Excel. It is from the nature and the character of the Muslim. It should be from the mindset of the Muslim, that when we do something, we do it correctly, and we do it properly. Allah, the prophet sits on the lower end, he will send them that a large silver gel loaves from his slave that when he does an action, he does it well, either. I mean, I'm alone.

When he does an action, he does it well. He's not someone who does something half heartedly. And that is why our Prophet told us and Allah, Allah will sell him and again, this is from the mindset of his son, showing how it falls into every single category of life, every single aspect and sphere of life. It's not just about relationships with Allah, or our relationship with Allah or our Riba with Allah. It is an every single thing that we do, as an employee, as a father, as a son, as a husband, as adults, so on and so forth. Everything that we do, the Prophet told us sallallahu wasallam, concerning the Day of Judgment, that if the trumpet is blown, and the day of judgment was

to come, and one of you has a seed in his hand that he wishes to plant, the living do so is Yeoman Yama, the world has ended or it's ending right now. There is no more action that seed will have grown because of

I will change the earth and the heavens and everything upon it will change. That seed won't grow, that plant won't grow into life, no one will take from its fruits, no one will benefit from it. But even so, the mindset of the Muslim from the exons is that even if that was the stage of life, meaning that the dunya is about to end, that's where you're at, and you have the action that you're about to perform, you've made that intention, then complete that action, perform it, because that is from the excellence and the mindset of the Muslim. And that is why you have many of those stories of the scholars of Islam, who when they were on their deathbeds, they will still want to learn and they

will still want to seek knowledge. They would hear a hadith that someone was mentioning those people who came to visit them, and they're on their deathbeds. And someone mentions a hadith that they've never come across before. It's a word in a hadith that they never heard. So they would ask for a quill a pen and paper to write it down. And people would say to them, you're on your deathbed, you're about to die. But they would say no, until we die, we still continue to seek knowledge. It is that level of excellence, of wanting to go on and on even at that most difficult time. Because still, you want to excel and you want to come closer to Allah subhana wa Tada. So our Prophet told

us and Allah wa alayhi wa sallam, in every single part of our lives, Allah has written for us that we should Excel for either Patel Tom fascino peddler, or either the bathroom fast, you know. need, it is mentioned within our religion, when those people used to come to some man and Pharisees, rhodiola, who and the famous illustrious companion, and they would say to him in the belittling way, crying to mediate him, that your religion and your profits on the lower end, he will sell him as a man who taught you even how to clean yourself, after going to the bathroom, or chroma comilla he taught you even how to clean yourself, he would say proudly, yes, he did teach us how to clean our songs. He told us to enter with the left foot, he told us to sit when we relieve ourselves, he told us how to clean our songs with water with stones, he taught us so Allah, Allah will sell them how to

do that, because that is part of the excellence that we have in our religion. It is something to be proud of the week Some even in those smallest of issues. We excel in the way that we hold ourselves, let alone therefore the major issues, the way that we treat others, the way that we form our relationships, and especially our worship of Allah subhanho wa Taala. And that's why it's not a fitting for Muslim, in terms of having high aspirations and ambitions in terms of explaining that we don't know our religion, when it comes to those things that are obligatory upon us. If a Muslim doesn't really know how to pray, that's not excellence. If they don't know how to make Waldo

awesome, that is not a form of excellence. If you don't know those things in your religion, that you must know, because there is an obligation that Allah has placed upon you, that goes against the concept of excellence. If excellence is even in the way that we relieve ourselves in the way that we store to our animals, in the way that we dress, in the way that we look in the way that we eat, and how we eat and the manner in which we eat, then surely in the way that we pray, and fast and give us a car, there is also a level of excellence. And that is why the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam highlighting and emphasizing this point and it is a mindset therefore, it's not just as simple as

saying, Excel can be excellent. It is a mindset that first has to change within our minds, that we have to ingrain within ourselves and then teach to our children, that they can excel and they can do whatever they want to do. If they put their trust in Allah they turn to Allah and seek Allah's help they can achieve anything they want.

It is a mindset that the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam placed within the minds of his companions. Look at the Hadith where the Prophet told us sallallahu alayhi wa sallam is us ultra mama and Jenna Fisher Lu fulfilled those. If one of you was to ask Allah for paradise, then ask him for what? for Jenna, in our aspirations to attain Allah's mercy, and his pleasure and his reward, and his power dies, we shouldn't just be willing to set for that lowest level of gentlemen. But we just simply be from amongst those people who enter into genda from amongst the last people who will enter, but rather than ambition, the goal is I want to be the Companion of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam, I want to be a neighbor to his companions unto those prophets of Allah, I want to be in the highest level of Jannah above me, I want nothing except a throne of Allah subhana wa Tada. Because when that is the mindset, when that is the goal, and ambition and aspiration, then even if a

person was to miss that goal, then insha Allah, they would still be in one of the other levels of gender. But when the goal is to do the minimum, the least acceptable to just barely pass, then if a person misses that goal, then there is nothing below gender, except the fire of how many loss he was from it. And so the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam is still within his companions, that type of excellence. And it's not just in in da for Jana, if you were to go through the sun, and you were to look at many of the things that are lost. The Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said, in his different the Hadith and the way that he would teach his companions, you would find that he was

instilling within them indirectly, a level of his son of excelling in the way that he would teach them to pray in the way that he will teach them the Quran. You come across a hadith for example, where the companions is to say that the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam taught us this to her, the way that he would teach a surah to Fatiha. What does that mean? It means that he's teaching it to them with excellence. When the companions of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, some of them are spending years to memorize a single soul of the Quran, because they want to memorize and understand and reflect on ponder and contemplate and act upon those verses. That is a level of

sound, it is excellence, when the companions would say we would only take 10 verses at a time, and memorize them and understand them and act upon them and then move on to the next 10 that is excellence. And that is what the prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam, instilled within all of the companions, so that each one of them excelled in what they were able to do. That doesn't mean that all of us are clones, because the companions not all of them excel in the same way. Some of them are known for being warriors and soldiers and generals. Some of them were known for being scholars of the Quran, either the memorization and the recitation of the Quran, or the understanding of the

onhand. There were other companions who are prolific narrators of Hadith of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, they understood the Sunnah. There were other companions who are known for business and forgiving choti they were generous because they had the wealth that they could use to sponsor and help others. Every single one of them excelled in a different way. Every single one of them used what they had, and they applied the principle of excellence and they excel in what Allah azza wa jal made easy for them. And that is what the prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam instill within the companions.

And I want to give you a couple of examples of this from the lives of the companions,

Abubakar of the Allahu Allah, as we know is the greatest of the of the of the companions of Prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam. There is no companion that has the highest station and is greater in our religion than Abu Bakar on the long run, and from one of the many virtues of abubaker the logo and one of his many merits is how many different times he was guaranteed gender. He was given a guarantee of gender by the prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, he is one of those few companions who the Prophet salaallah alayhi wa sallam mentioned him by name, that he will be in general. We know as a general rule of thumb that all of the companions Allah is pleased with them, because Allah

mentioned so in the Quran, rhodiola Guan Kumara, Diwan, Allah is pleased with them and they are pleased with him. We know that generally speaking, they have gender, they are the people of gender. But there are few companions who are mentioned by name and their names or affirmed as them being from the people of gender. From amongst those few people is Abu Bakr rhodiola one. Abubakar is not just mentioned once or twice or

Three times there are many a hadith that speak about him being from the people of gender. There's a famous Hadith of the 10 companions will promise paradise. The first of the mentioned is Abubakar ob Allah, Ababa Quran Abu Bakr lynfield Jana, Abubakar will be in Jannah and another Hadith the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam was in a garden and he was sitting on a wall sitting on the rim of a wall. The Buhari rhodiola. One was the gatekeeper to the garden. Anyone that wanted to come would seek permission from him. And he would go on ask permission from the Prophet salallahu alayhi wa sallam. The first person to come was Abu Bakar, the allowing, he gave salaams and Esau permission to

enter. So borello came to the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam and he said O Messenger of Allah. Abubakar is by the gate and he seeks permission to enter. So the prophet SAW Selim said to him, reply to his salaams give him the Salaam back and tell him to enter and give him that tidings of paradise. And that is the glad tidings are Bovary rhodiola and conveyed to Abubakar on the Allah one another Hadith in which he is mentioned explicitly as having gender. Another Hadith the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam was mentioning the eight gates of Paradise that there will be a gate for the people of Salah AND gate for the people are fasting and again for the people of charity and so

on and so forth. And then Abu Bakr radi Allahu answered on messenger of Allah. Is there anyone who on that day will be invited to enter into Jana from all of its engage all of them will be open before him. And he said now I'm under Khun Ameen whom, yes, oh, Abubakar and I hope that you will be from amongst them. That's a hadith that speaks about him being from the people of Jenna. We know that after all of the prophets and messengers of Allah, Allah hemos salatu wa sallam enter into Jana. The first person to go in after all of them is Abubakar or the Allah one in yet another Hadeeth 456 whichever number we're on now, Abubakar, the en la where I'm coming from the Prophet

sallallahu alayhi wa sallam who from amongst you woke up fasting Manasa humming comsa email, who woke up fasting Abubakar says I did. These four things are not united in a single person on a single day, except that they will enter into Jana, numerous ahaadeeth all of them speaking about Abubakar Viola one entering into gender. That is a guarantee, a guarantee which if many of us and many Muslims are to have, they will take it as a blank check not to worship Allah ever again. Right here would be a reason not to pray not too fast, not to give us a

car, not to do anything. You have gender, you're guaranteed gender. What more do you need to do? But aboubakar mobiola Horan continues in his lifetime to serve the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam to sacrifice for Islam to help Islam spread. And then even after the death of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam will back out the Allah one is now in his 16th He's an old man, Abubakar rhodiola, who doesn't just stop and retire. He doesn't just go off somewhere and retire and live a quiet life. But he becomes the leaf of the Muslims at its most difficult time. At the time when the Muslims are in their most fragile state. And he leads the Muslims and he continues to make his rebelled and come

closer to Allah. And he continues to spread Islam and spread the sooner the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, because that is the concept of excellence, to continue and continue and continue and never take anything for granted. And he can say the same thing about Amara, the Allahu and and many of those great companions who even though they were given a guarantee of Jannah or Marathi, Allah who would still come to her life and he would say, Oh for the for when the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam mentioned the names of the hypocrites, was I amongst them? Did he mentioned my name in the list of hypocrites. This is a man who is guaranteed Jenner in numerous ahaadeeth it still he

fears for himself, hypocrisy. Then the Prophet says I'm allowed to sell him that is so in a dream a great palace. And then you refuse to even enter. Because you remember the jealousy of the owner, who's the owner, or the Allah who he saw his punished in Jannah is still is afraid of hypocrisy reaching him. And that is the concept of excellence, never to take it for granted. Never thinking that you have earned a loss pleasure because you have no guarantee. But you continue to worship Allah azza wa jal and to excel. And there were other companions who did likewise, Abdullah Ambassador the Allah and Omar Abdullah bin Ahmad, the Allah and woman are insha Allah and if you

were to look at and analyze and study the lives of these companions, you would find that they lived lives of excellence each one in their own way. They would continue and they would continue. And that is why today we still remember them and we still mentioned their names.

And it's not just those those companions, but even after them those generations of scholars that came those famous scholars that all of us know their names Oh, Abu hanifa, Mr Mohammed, EMA Malik emammal Schaeffer emammal Bukhari even Tamia or Hema Humala, those from amongst them. We remember their names because they excelled, excelled in knowledge excelled in learning, exalting, educating excel in spreading the sooner in whichever field they excelled in the exam. And they had that level of person that they would continue. None of them knew that they would be great scholars of Islam. None of them are given that guarantee no one knew their future. And many of them were former slaves.

Many of them were poor. Many of them came from orphan backgrounds, many of them are non Arabs, some of the greatest follows that Islam has produced one on Arabs, they weren't even Arabs didn't even come from that lineage of Arabs operation or lived in that region of Arabia. But they had that level of excellence. And they knew that they wanted to come closer to Allah subhanho wa Taala and Allah azza wa jal plus their efforts, so that today, we still remember their names. There's rarely a monster you can go to, except that you will find a copy of salamati of any mammal Behari. There's rarely a monster you go to, except that someone is teaching real to solid Hina. Remember, nowhere we

And all of these quests follows their books that they wrote that they didn't really understand or realize how far they would spread or where they would go to and today will still benefit from them, because they had that level of excellence. So this is the concept that is ingrained within our religion. It is built into our religion to excel. It is mentioned in many verses in the Quran, the concept of excelling, of being the best that you can be, it is mentioned in the Sunnah. And it was practically implemented in the life of our Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, and the way in which he taught his companions. But as always, unfortunately, the more that
