we begin by praising Allah subhanho wa Taala we praise Him, we seek His help and we ask for his forgiveness. the topic for today is the Quran, my God.

And we all know

that Allah subhanho wa Taala sent down this Quran upon our beloved prophet muhammad sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, over the 23 years in his lifetime. And this Quran is our guide.

But a lot of us Subhanallah have forgotten the essence of the Quran.

A lot of us we give importance to the RE citation of the Quran, which is great.

But we forget to give importance to the understanding of the Quran.

And that's what the topic will be about today in sha Allah, I want to begin the talk with a little story. It's actually a little snippet from a film.

Chef, you watch a film, you watch movies, it's not really a movie from Hollywood, or Bollywood or anything like that. It is actually a snippet. It's short films that have been made by it's an it's a production studio from Pakistan. And they actually made this film to teach people Islam through scenarios, it's actually quite good. And one of the brothers sent me this snippet, and he said, You better watch this. It's pretty good. So it's about this Pakistani man

who travels from Pakistan and goes to America to study.

And when he gets there, when he lands in America, what happens is the security officers, the customs officers, they take into the corner and say, Listen, this is a random check, random search, we need to take you away his name was, I think, was Mohammed OSHA con, something like that. So they took him to the corner. And they said, we want to do some random, you know, check, you know, with you. So they took into a room.

And they asked him a couple of questions. You know, why are you here? How long are you going to be here for? And he answered? He said, I'm here for studies going to this university, so on and so forth. Then they said, Can you open up your bag, we want to check your bag.

So you open up his bag, and he was taking a few items out one at a time.

One of the items he took out was a must have a Quran.

And then the security officers they said what is what is this?

He said this is the Quran, our holy book. And he tried to explain it to them, you know, like, like, the Christians have the Bible. You know, we have the Quran, it's a way of life for us. It's a guide for us. Just like the Christians have the Bible, how to pray and so on and so forth.

So he looked at the Quran and everything was written in Arabic and the security officers, you know, they don't understand Arabic. They said, can you read the Quran?

Or can you read the Quran? They said, he said, Yes, of course I can read it.

So the man said, can you open up a page and read it for me? So you open up the page of a Quran just in the middle of someone with a beautiful smile on his face. He started reciting

and after he read a few verses a few

Two lines, the security officer said, Well, what does it mean? When I don't understand Arabic? Can you explain what you just read?

All of a sudden, the brother just went quiet.

I don't know.

And the security officer is like, what are you talking about? You don't know. You just read so fluently, a passage from the Quran? And what you don't know what it means? No, I'm sorry, I know how to read it. But I don't know the meaning. How can you read something and not understand it? It's like, if I read an English book, and I don't understand what I'm reading, how does that make sense?

So it was basically a little film that makes you realize, I am a Muslim. I can read the Quran I've been taught how to read the Quran. But I don't know what I'm reading. How does that make any sense? You know, with our children, when they go to school, they learn A is for apple, there's a picture of an apple.

B is for ball is a picture of a ball. And they start visualizing things. They start learning things from a very young age. But we don't put that effort for our children. What about Arabic letters? What about Arabic? Arabic words? What about all of those things? What about words from the Quran, being a Muslim, or part of being a Muslim, is to have a bit of understanding of the Quran, or have a bit of understanding of the Arabic language that's just a part of being a Muslim. It comes together with it Subhanallah

even though we don't understand it, but Subhanallah the Quran is the most widely read book in the world. And we know this. But Quran is also the most widely read but not understood book.

It's the most widely read, but also the most widely not understood book Subhan Allah and of course that is mainly because majority of the Muslims in the world are non Arabs. But that doesn't give us that excuse.

Allah to Allah created all of us, and he actually called us that we are the greatest among Allah subhanho wa taala. He says, going to Pharaoh met in Oak Ridge bottlenose

How is the Quran used today?

If we look at it, and the points that I'm gonna say, there is nothing wrong with it. It's actually good. But it's the misunderstanding of the people of how the Quran is supposed to be used. Now we know that the month of Ramadan is upon us, it's just knocking around the corner. It's almost here

and that is the time where you will start seeing Muslims finally picking up the Quran.

You will start seeing Muslims finally downloading the Quran app on their phones. You will finally see Muslims giving a bit of importance of Quran in Ramadan. Why? But they only think Quran is for Ramadan.

But it's a misunderstanding of the people that we must finish it. So how do they read it? How do they read it? And then after reciting the Quran, they gave me an envelope. I was like, I don't know what this is. But anyways, I went home and opened it, there was some money in there. And I was like, hey, I can make some money out of this.

You know, go to people's houses recycled and find out who's sick in the family. Or you know who's sick in the community and go recite Quran. People think that's what the Quran is for. I'm not saying it's wrong.

But what about the mother of that child? Who is sick? Why can't she recite? What about the Father in that family? Why can't he recite? What about the other people, the siblings in the family? Why can't they recite? Why is it that the chef has the most importance or someone who knows Quran has more importance here? No Subhanallah Quran is not for the share for the imam or for the for the audio for the whole field. Quran is for everyone. And we forget that

you know, subhanAllah a lot of people think, you know, a person is dying, that's when the Quran becomes important.

But we forget that if that man or that woman didn't live a life of Quran didn't live a life of understanding and implementing Quran, is that really gonna benefit them inshallah it does. But we know stories there was a chef who mentioned the story, there was a man who was passing away, and a few shakes came to visit him. When they entered the home, they realized there was music playing in the background,

you unnecessary or whatever they had. And the chef would upset at the family your father is passing away, and you're you've got music on

but put some Quran on.

So they felt the shame by that. So they turn that off, they put some Quran on the man who was dying or angry.

And he said put back the music that suits my heart.

And we know this because the Hadith of the Prophet SAW Selim, you will die by the way you've lived. If you don't live upon the Quran, and you're not gonna die upon the Quran. That's the simple formula Subhanallah so Quran is being misused in these areas. All right, they can be used again, they can be used, but it's a misunderstanding of how it's supposed to be how it's supposed to be used.

Also, when we have functions, right when we have weddings,

you will see a massive wedding in a beautiful hall all decorated no problem with that. But the problem is, you'll have a mixed gathering. You'll have men and women together. You

You have music blasted as the you know people are coming in. You have ladies without a job. They blinged up they will come in. You have the bride and the groom sitting at the front you know full show for everybody music is blasted and then his belly dancers waiting on the side.

I would now like to call upon Muhammad Muhammad to come and recite Quran for us. How is that Baraka?

When you don't understand the Quran where Allah Tala tells us in the Quran, there has to be segregation. When Allah Allah tells us in the Quran, there needs to be hijab, when Allah tells us in the Quran, there is no music. When Allah Allah tells us in the Quran, there's supposed to be no dancing, no women in front of me dancing like that. Where is the implementation of the Quran? In those gatherings? It's not just the citation that's going to work Subhanallah there's blessings Yes. But the essence we forget the essence we forget. So we are using the Quran in these areas where we've we've, it's the way we've been taught that you know, that's what the Quran is useful. The

If we asked you a question, how often do we recite the Quran, as compared to how often we use our device? Think about it for a moment.

Ask yourself the question, I'll ask myself the question you ask yourself the question, when was the last time you sat down, you opened up the Quran, you recited the Quran, and you took time to understand its meaning, as compared to when was the last time we picked up our devices. And we went on social media to check Facebook, or Twitter, or Snapchat or Instagram or tick tock or whatever it is, to compare the two, it's actually come comparatively more, because Subhanallah I'll use, I'll use spend hours and hours a day on technology and the distractions of life when the reality is not taken into account. And that is the Quran. So that is what is happening today. Subhanallah and

because of that distractions, and brainwashing of every other things that is around them, there are so many social issues.

And this is because of the lack of understanding of the Quran. Look at the social issues of today.

And let's just talk about Muslims for now. We're not even talking about non Muslims the rise of or raising our children

to give importance to this dunya

and that's a social problem that's an issue that parents and are raising the children up to cater for this dunya and not for the Astro

so we raise them up in a manner that you need to be smart in math you need to smart smart in English, I there's no issues with that. But where is the importance?

There is no importance given on Quran

there is no importance given on the Arabic language English is a must you better learn English essays you got to do that you got to pass it English is compulsory, until you 12 HSC, all of these things right? What about Arabic? We did Arabic go something that's going to help you understand the book of Allah, which will then help you into paradise. Where is that importance gone? Subhanallah and the way we are raising our kids is such that way. So when they get older, and they are successful in this life, they will have children. Quran won't even be mentioned.

Quran when we mentioned and you can see that happening generation after generation where Islam is lost in certain families, unfortunately, because we are not giving the importance and we don't understand how to raise our kids because we're not reading the Quran. Also, other social issues that happens, disrespect of the children, to the parents, to their teachers, to the elders. And you can see that all across Australia, amongst the Muslims and I'm only talking about Muslims go.

It's so rare now to see respect to the parents. It's very, very rare, unfortunately.

Because we don't teach our children and I'm not only talking about young children, I'm talking about even our age to our parents.

Why? Because we forget verses or we don't understand the verses in the Quran. When Allah Allah tells us what God or Buddha Allah taboo. Where is the lira gone? The extreme jealousy of your wives gone? Where is it gone?

These are the realities of life. immodesty. It's happening now. Why? Because we forget what Allah the One who created us, tells us we forget what he tells what he's good for us. We forget all of these issues.

Also not not upholding our roles and responsibilities. Husband and wife issues. Husband Doesn't take care of the family while she makes money. You know, she can spend on this she can spend on that. What do I have to spend a woman forgetting that's the role of you, that's your role? And at the same time, culture plays a big role and we mix culture with religion, right? And we say hey, I've got the power.

Right? I mean abuse and we think that's okay and we think that's fine because we mix culture with religion. And we know for a fact that Allah Allah tells us not to disrespect or hits or anyone. The word obey we can't even use anymore because it doesn't sound right. And that's the word the prophets of salaam used and it's the understanding of the Quran that the men should understand what it means to be obey. You don't take advantage of that.

Subhanallah is because we don't understand the Quran. inheritance, parents pass away such a tough time. Then someone says that's all my money. The parents unfortunately didn't write a will. So it's dispersed how they like we forget the verses of the Quran, where it tells you who gets what, you don't have a say.

It's the right of the person to get that Allah to Allah tells us because Allah knows if that is not written, there'll be a rift and problems between siblings and family.

But we forget those verses SubhanAllah. Because we don't know we don't read we don't understand it. So all of these problems is happening. So how, what can we do? How can we resolve these issues?

We can resolve these issues by first of all, accepting there is a problem.

We need to accept I have a problem. I don't understand the Quran. I never used to give importance. But you know what? I'm going to start now.

So the first way to resolve this problem, it's you it's me. What can I do? How can I fix myself? You know what I'm intending now? Also the Quraysh

You know, son, get this. Let me get that for me. Which tool? Should I use that tool? Which screws should I use D one, D, two, D, two D one, pick up that one. Right. That's the one I'm going to use. Once it's finished, perfect, beautiful, put into place by done successful, because I use the manual. Imagine if I started building on myself and I'm going to knowledge it's going to be the wind will blow this flood will take it away that we had. Right but somehow it's true. When we are looking for

Take some time to sit down with your family and go through the meaning of the of those sorts. So next time when the Imam is reciting, and he says Jana, you know what it is, when he says mode, you should shake a little bit. Right, at least that should help you. And then you will start to understand more and more and more keywords are important. Third,

start to memorize sources. Now leaving the short tours out, you've already memorized them a new Surah that you want to memorize. Now, memorize it with understanding.

And that's okay, take your time, you're in the right way, right track, your intentions are good. It might take you years, but that's fine. Because you want to make sure you understand those verses you apply those verses in sha Allah. And lastly, and this is the hardest, but in sha Allah with determination, it's possible. Learn the Arabic language,

the amount of importance we give to English. Let's give that importance to Arabic. Learn the Arabic language. And I you know, hung out at school. I'm a school teacher. So I when I talk about this to the students, I stopped for a moment I'm gonna say Arabs. Stand up for me please. No disrespect to anyone. Arab stand up, please. So the Arabs stand up. And I say to the Arabs, I say there's something special that you have something special that you have. You have the Arabic language, even if it's a different lecture, even if it is let's say it's a it's Lebanese Arabic, or it's Iraqi Arabic or it's Egyptian, Arabic, whatever it is. At least the words are close enough to understand

the Quran. Don't lose it. I told him don't lose it. You've got that speak to your parents in Arabic. Speak to your grandparents in Arabic. Speak to your siblings in Arabic. Continue speaking in Arabic. Don't lose that inshallah.

That for me is the minimum requirement. The Arabic, which is the minimum requirement, is what you're praying in your Salah, you understand it. And if you can do that in sha Allah, you've done well, and then continue on in sha Allah. And there is everything that I'm 60 7080 years old, I can't study anymore. No, no, no. Age doesn't matter.

When I was doing my bachelor's in Malaysia, in the Sharia, there was a man who was in my class, 92 years old.

He was 92 years old. And I asked him I was young and I even asked him like, what are you doing here? But you're 92 years old. And he looked at me with a smile on his face and he said, You're never too old to study the deen of Allah. You're never too old to study the deen of Allah. And he taught me a lesson. It's so true. You're never too old. So do your best in sha Allah, Allah Allah Allah knows your intention. We ask Allah subhanahu wa taala. To help us understand the Quran. We ask Allah subhanahu wa taala to help us understand the meaning of the Quran to apply the Quran in our life, to love the Quran. Because remember my brothers and sisters, this Quran will be a Hijjah for you or
