Am I bad?

Can money make you happy?

That's a question that

a lot of people

bring, bring up, bring bring up?

Can money make you happy?

The answer is money can make you happy?

The answer

is that money can make you happy.

But not in the way that many of us think.

Money. Well,

the blessing that Allah Subhana Allah has bestowed upon us.

These are wonderful blessings that we should be thankful to Allah subhanho wa Taala all the time for.

And

we sometimes hear in the news, that there are so many people who are less fortunate than ourselves who have less than us.

They are going through much more difficult times.

And you might ask,

why are they going through such difficult times? Why are they being tested in such a way?

When we have a Lord that is so merciful, so kind, and so generous.

A lot of people don't realize

that everyone in the world

is being tested. You are either being tested with

difficulties and hardships.

Or you're being tested with prosperity.

You might say prosperity, can prosperity be a test? Yes, it is.

us living us living in this world right now.

We're between being thankful and being patient. That's the that is the

situation of

a believer.

You're either thankful or you're patient.

And in both cases,

you're being rewarded by Allah subhanho wa Taala for it.

So there are people out there who are being tested.

As I mentioned, they have very little food to eat, they might not have shelter, they have no peace, meaning waking up in the morning

and afraid for their lives, because bombs and the sound of machine guns go off in their area on a daily basis.

When the sun rises, they don't know if they will see it set. And when it sets, they don't know whether they will see it rise.

They're facing a lot of difficulties. Yet we are in a situation where many of us here we are in prosperity, those who are being tested with hardships and difficulties.

Those are difficult tests yet

the test of hardships and difficulties.

That test is easier than the test of prosperity

might say how can that be the case? The reason is because when someone goes through hardship, they're more likely to return to Allah.

They're more likely to turn to God.

They're more likely

to supplicate to have an increase in their worship.

But those who are in prosperity,

they are less likely to be thankful for what they have.

And what is being thankful mean, being thankful means you use the blessings that you have in the obedience of Allah. So when they're being tested, yes, they're being tested. When they're being tested. We're being tested that same time to see if we are

living in the United States of America where we are right now. Where are we going to do anything about it?

Can we do anything to help them

and so if we're given that opportunity to help others,

and we don't help them, we have failed the test of prosperity.

And that's why the more difficult

Test as mentioned by the prophet muhammad sallallahu alayhi wa sallam he said Lofa alaikum

it is not probably, it is not poverty, that I fear for you.

But I fear that this worldly life will be opened up for you mean that the dunya, the world will be opened up for you the wealth and the blessings of this world will be opened up for you, and you compete for it, and you will compete for it. And it will destroy you, just like it destroyed the people before.

Well, having wealth is not something that's bad,

but not being thankful for what you have

is something that is not praiseworthy. It's something that we have to reflect upon all the time. And that's why we see people in different situations, and sometimes a person is born without an eye or a hand or their mental state is not complete, as honors, you might say, Why are they born in such a way, it is to remind us of things that we take for granted on a daily basis, that we're able to see, we're able to hear, we have all the faculties

of senses.

And these things we don't, we take for granted. And we don't thank Allah subhanho wa Taala for.

And so

in order for us to pass the test of prosperity,

we have to spend those blessings in the obedience of Allah, and to help others and that's what makes us happy. It is not the collecting of the wealth that makes us happy. But it's the spending of it in the path of Allah helping others helping the needy and those who are less fortunate than ourselves. And that is why a Harvard professor by the name of Michael Norton,

he

brought forth this question. And they did, they had a project and they did some research,

to see if money

can really bring happiness.

And so what they did was

they gave some money

to certain individuals,

they gave

money and they told them, they said, use this money

and spend it on yourself.

And then they asked them about the level of their happiness.

At the beginning of the day, before they spent that money.

And they, the people circled the level of happiness that they had to in one in 10, or whatever the scale was,

at the end of the day, after spending, and using that money on themselves, they

did the same thing again, what was their level of happiness. For the majority of them,

the level of happiness did not change. Even though they spent the money on themselves, they treated themselves with the money that they were given. And they were given. It's not just one group of people, the poor people and the rich people and people from different parts of the world. And they tested this, and they asked different people of different social statuses and wealth and things like that.

And then they gave some money to another group of people.

And they said, use this money and spend it on somebody else, make them happy.

Buy something for someone, make someone happy, give it to someone,

or do something to make someone happy using this money.

And so everyone did the same thing at the end of the day, over 90% of those who spent it on others.

They said that they were more happy.

So money

can make you happy. Money can bring happiness, but only the use it to spend it on other people to put smiles on other people's faces.

Money will bring you happiness. There's nothing like the sense of helping an orphan.

helping a person in need.

giving someone something so that you alleviate a calamity that they might be in and so many can make you happy. But only if you spend it on others and spending on others. A lot of course increases it for you because every time you spend it on others you will

Wealth is increased, because it is blessed. And thus you will have less problems. Because when wealth is not blessed, it means that

the walls that you may have,

you might lose it because you get into an accident and things like that. And so

Islam Islam, Allah subhanho wa Taala says,

bad no Lamia, shaytani r rajim. Len

to have born women Martin fiocco. shy. In a law heavy IE you will never attain albir you will never attain piety and righteousness until you spend from that which you love.

Until you spend from that which you love.

When you spend, don't just give when you're giving someone a gift or giving something to someone, don't just give the leftovers as Muslims. We are ordered to give that which we ourselves

want

and that is why many people when they hear the Hadith, the word of the Prophet Muhammad sallallahu alayhi wa sallam when he said la umino had to come Hector, you have barely AHIMA, you have bully nuptse. None of you truly believes until he loves for his brother what he loves for himself.

None of you will have faith. Most people think Wow, that's a very high level of emotion to achieve a level high level level of faith. That's something that's really high no in Islam. That's the minimum requirement. The minimum requirement for every Muslim is that he loves for his brother what he loves for himself. That's the minimum requirement. The praiseworthy status is called an ethos, preferring others over yourself. Will you see Runa unfussy him well can be him kasasa. And they prefer others over themselves, even if they were in dire straits, meaning if they were really even if they were poor, they would spend that money or they would feed others instead of just, you know, instead of

just eating it themselves, and fulfilling their own stomachs, they will prefer to give their brothers

in Islam and their brothers in humanity. And so in Islam, that's the Praiseworthy status. And the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam

was approached by a man and the Hadith is from Abdullah Abdullah Abdullah Omar. radi Allahu anhu. He said that a man came to the Prophet Muhammad sallallahu alayhi wa sallam and he said, Yeah Rasul Allah, O Messenger of God. Are you Nasir Habu? Illallah? Who are the people who are the ones who are most beloved to God to Allah? What will happen is Allah in which deeds are most beloved to God? And the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, he said, humbleness Eliza Allah And Pharaoh homeliness, those who are more beloved to God, are the ones who are most beneficial to the people will have mental illness Elaine azzawajal, and the most beloved deeds in the sight of Allah saloon, to the loo

Because we have been created to worship Him and we have been created as humans to help others. And so when we fulfill those obligations, then we psychologically and emotionally and spiritually will be more happier. Because that's what we have been created for, for the worship of God, to do that which is pleasing to God, and to fulfill the needs of others. And then that's something that's pleasing to Allah subhanho wa Taala. And that is why when you see someone who is very wealthy, someone is very wealthy, you have

some people who are very wealthy, and they're very famous. And yet sometimes you wonder, why are they always going into? Why are they always falling in depression?

Shouldn't they be very happy? Like, it seems like those people the actors and actresses and singers and and so forth, they have so much yet we hear them going in to rehab out of rehab, doing you know, sometimes even committing suicide?

Why is that the case? Well, this is an indication that these people you know, they have they have what we want the majority of people think they have everything

yet money doesn't bring happiness. And before you have a you think that you know what, you still have hopes, but will you've reached that level and you see that you're still not happy? And that there's still there's something missing, then that's

you makes you lose hope sometimes. You know, I'm here. I thought this is where happiness is. But you know it's not here. So where else do I go? So many of them fall into

Deep stages of depression and even to the point where some of them commit suicide.

So, you see some people, the super wealthy at the end of their lives. Most of them end up being philanthropists. They end up spending their wealth and helping others and spending it, building wealth, helping cure malaria and things like that. Why?

It's because they realize that what brings you happiness isn't the amassing of wealth. But it's spending that wealth to make others happy to help others, because that's what we have been created to do. And so by helping others, and helping alleviate hardships and difficulties from others, Allah subhanho wa Taala the day of judgment will help us. Allah says yo mala young man Well, I balloon 11 Atala, the Calvin Sally, on the day in which

wealth and your wealth and your children will be of no avail to you, except for those who come forward to God with a pure heart, with a clean heart. And so those who come forward to along with the clean heart those are the people who will be the people of paradise. Those are the people who who have, who have good hearts, then who help others who are not jealous of others or envious of others. Yet, whatever others may have they supplicate to Allah that Allah blesses them in their wealth and increase it for them. And thus, when we see someone who is in need, if we're not able to help them, financially, or physically, the least of which is we supplicate to Allah? And we ask

Allah that Allah alleviates their problems, the least of which you cannot claim as I mentioned yesterday, you can't

Under another day of judgment, when we help others when we help others.

God, Allah subhanho wa Taala will help us alleviate our problems. And that's why the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said men faraja and woman in quarter by 10 min Cora dunya for Raja Allahu anhu Kirby Kirby Yokoyama, whoever helps a believer alleviate a hardship of this life, then on the Day of Judgment, God will help alleviate the hardships and difficulties of the hereafter. The people of Medina invited him over not as a refugee, no. He came to Mecca to Medina as their leader. He came to Medina, as their leader. And

this was his inaugural speech, you know, the inaugural speech when someone

first becomes the president. Right, we're going to have an inaugural speech coming up right, either by the first president, or first woman, President of the United States, or the first Latino President of the United States are the first Jewish President of the United States, or the last president of the United States, it was Donald Trump.

But so the inaugural speech is a very important speech to establish what to do what to establish the policies of the administration and it's, it's attended by many people. So what was the inaugural speech of the Prophet Muhammad sallallahu alayhi wa sallam upon his arrival in Medina, listen to it, it's very short, yet very concise.

He said, you had an s. o people.

After Salah, spread peace, in spread the greetings of peace after Salaam that's the first thing. And that's why in Islam, Islam works for peace and cause to peace. And Islam prospers in peace, not in war. And that's why the Prophet some of the first thing is that after Salaam spread peace, spread, the greetings of peace will

emerge by means feed others, the food that you have the most simple the simplest form of gift giving, is food is giving others food those who are in need and

Allah subhanho wa Taala says,

So if you let's say, you cook something and you burn part of it, you don't give the bread part to them, though, you give the best part to them, and you leave

the bird for your own family. That's what they were doing. The companions were doing that, and that had such a great positive effect on the prisoners, that the majority of them became Muslims, because of the way that they were treated, because of the way that the Prophet sallallahu ordered them to treat the prisoners in such a kind. And, and, and nice way that they were the enemies, they were being given the best parts. And so that's what we call an ethos. And these were at that moment, that time, of course, they were not Muslims, yet they were still law still ordered the Muslims to feed them the best of what they had, and to give them the best of what they had. And thus

one who just thinks about himself is not a believer.

One who just worries about his own stomach is not a believer. And that's why the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam he said lacell Min, a believer is not the lady Yeshua Yahushua Elijah be a believer. Meaning This is not a Muslim, not a believer. A believer is not one who eats until he's four and leaves his neighbor hungry. That's not a belief.

That's not a true Muslim. And Allah subhanho wa Taala he said that Heidi and Heidi could see your own light Island, Yama, Yama, on the day of judgment, Allahu wa say when the people are brought forward, and we're held accountable for our deeds, and we're asked about our deeds. Allah will say yes to Adam. Oh children, oh, son of Adam.

I asked you to feed me yet you did not feed me

Did you not know that if you were to give him that food, then you would have found me with him. In other words, when, when we, Allah Subhana Allah orders as he's testing us, when people are coming to ask us for help. You have to understand that Allah is testing us. He could easily give that food to that poor person himself. But because of his mercy, he wants to give you paradise. He wants you to receive that food, so that you can give to the poor so that you can be rewarded by God otherwise he would himself is able to do that. And so you have to realize that anytime someone is standing up, asking for help anywhere in the world, those people

In Syria, and Bangladesh, and Somalia, and wherever they may be, and the calamities that may happen anywhere in the world in the United States, when they're tornadoes and hurricanes and things like that. And when you're asked to help, you are being tested just like they're being tested. But they're more likely to pass the test because they're going to return to God. mean they're going to supplicate to God. And they're going to increase in their worship. But us when we're given something, we are being tested with the, the trials and tribulations of prosperity. And so when someone stands up and says, you know, there are brothers and sisters, and there are people who need

help, in such in such a country, there are orphans who are in need, there are widows who are in need, there are people who are hungry, and you have money, and you have wealth that Allah has granted you and you don't give, you have failed the test. And even if you had just give a little bit, and that's why the people of Paradise are always generous, in times of hardship, and in times of ease.

They are the people who spend your money for salary work, what law, those who spend in times of ease, and in times of hardship, and thus,

Allah subhanho wa Taala

tests us with many things.

But

this world, the wealth and the money that we have, it's all a test for us.

The people who are will be wealthy on the Day of Judgment are the generous people, the kind people, the people will help others those are the people who will be rich. And that's why the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam he said Runa many mufflers, do you know the word bankrupt?

He's asking the companions Do you know who is bankrupt? What is the word who is bankrupt? What does that mean? lol muffler Safina mela Durham, Allahu Allah de la. He said, One who is bankrupt is one mother who has no money, no gold or silver. But he's, you know, he doesn't have any money. He owes a lot of money.

And so the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam said,

I'll Muslim assuming or mighty, the one who is

bankrupt in my oma in my nation.

The people who are bankrupt are those on the Day of Judgment who come forward,

man at my yet to mill to be solid, and they come forward with plenty of prayers, plenty of sadaqa plenty of sadaqa charity, plenty of you know like slaughtering when they slaughter meat and they pass and give it up to the poor.

He has a lot of good deeds. Right? He has a lot of good deeds. He's someone who has a lot of good deeds in terms of his spirituality, his prayer and as charity and so forth. But

we're yet to shatter my head. But he's come forward also. And he has cursed this person, and that person and he slandered this person and that person. And he's taken the wealth of this person and that person, and he has hit this person and that person and he has heart, this person and that person. And he shed the blood of this person and that person.

Meaning he is someone who does good in terms of his worship between him and his good Lord, and He does good deeds. But he also speaks about others the back bites, and he harms others. And so on the day of judgments, Allah will be the supreme judge. And so his good deeds, his prayers, his fasting, his acts of good deeds will be taken, the reward for it will be taken from you, and given to this person and that person, because on the Day of Judgment, payment is not by money. payment is by good deeds. And these are the good deeds that are going to be weighed on the scale, to see whether you're going to enter Paradise or hellfire. And so you will, those who you harmed your good deeds will be

given to them given to this person and that person and this person and that person. So you have nothing left. You have nothing left. And then what happens you have still harm this person and that person, you still owe this person and that person and so your their bad deeds will be taken from them and poured upon you. Those are the people who are worthless. Those are the bankrupt ones, bankrupt liens and deeds. They harm others and that's why standing up in prayer five times a day is difficult. Pray fasting is very difficult from cents from sun from from dawn to sunset. That's not something that's easy. Making hajus difficult giving charity is difficult.

Don't give it to others on the Day of Judgment by harming others by backbiting others by doing this and oppressing others and so forth. And so

the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam now ended with this hadith in sha Allah, a man

came to the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam,

and said, O Messenger of Allah.

you know, she doesn't have a lot of prayers. You know, people don't people are, she's not known for her, you know, her, her abundance of prayer or fasting or sadaqa, or charity. But she's kind to her, her neighbors.

And she's, you know, she speaks good of others.

And the prophets have said she is in the hellfire. I mean, she's in she's in paradise. So she's in paradise. Why? Because those who do good and have bad manners and bad character. What they're doing is they're just giving all those good deeds to the other people. And that's why in order for you to intergender

in order for you to intergender you have to do both. That's why the prophet SAW them in his inaugural speech. What did he say? I'm gonna say right now, you had an S O people.

spread peace, spread the greetings of peace, after salah

and feed others

and enjoin relations.
