You, O Allah, no knowledge have we accepted
that which you have taught us. Indeed, you
are the All Knowing and the All Wise.
My dear brothers and sisters, Assalamu alaikum Warahmatullahi
wa barakatuh.
I hope everyone is doing well. May Allah
accept from us anew.
So we continue with the tafsir of Surat
Al Baqarah, and we are still with the
ayah where Allah
is talking about Ibrahim alayhi salam. The ayah
goes,
walhammahun
We spoke about how Allah
tested Ibrahim alaihis salam,
and the meaning of the test, and the
meaning of Ibrahim alaihi salam fulfilling
the words that Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala tested
him with.
Shall I ask what those words are
and get the different opinions for those
who attended last time or should we just
continue?
So we mentioned some of the different opinions
about what those words are.
Because Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala said,
What are these kalimat?
Okay? That Ibrahim alayhi salam ultimately fulfilled.
And we also mentioned an important
opinion, and that is the opinion of Ilham
al Tabari
who kept it general
and said
that as Allah
did not
what those words are, then it is very
possible
everything that we mentioned about those words applies
or some of it.
And we mentioned as well that many of
the

as commands and prohibitions.
So we said those are Kalima shariah.
Right?
Commands and prohibitions.
But we also said that a lot of
the tests that Ibrahim alaihi salam experienced and

were tests

So Allah

And then Allah said,

fulfilled

now gives him the reward.
I am going to make you as an
imam for the people.
And this is the
way Salqadda Mufassilin understood
the juxtaposition
of these two things.
Him fulfilling
the commands and the prohibitions and the words
and then
Allah
telling him, I am going to make you
as an imam for the people.
And this
is the way to understand
imamah. Imamah is no simple thing. Imamah is
not just a gift that you just give
someone. You don't just now come and say
a person is an imam. A person doesn't
reach the level of imam just like this.
They have to be tested.
They have to be tried.
And it applies to so many other
things. That's why we continue to have tests
today to see if someone is fit. And
this is
This is no simple manner. So
he fulfilled the test and thus he deserved
the that
Allah
was going to give him.
Similarly,
Allah
tells us in in another ayah,
gives us some other conditions of imamah. Allah
subhanahu wa ta'ala said,
So he made Imams out of them
that guide to his way when they were
patient, sabr,
and when they had the Yaqeen in his
signs and his verses.
And this is why Imams
said,
When you have sabr al Yaqeen, this is
how you become an imam in the deen.
And here we see
another one.
The the fulfilling
the passing of the test, the fulfilling of
the commands
of the words of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala.
Now he deserves to be an imam.
And we also remember
the opinion of some like Arabia ibn Anas
and others
who said
that the kalimat
are what comes after.
So he said, So some understood as the
as the test.
This is what you are going to be
tested with. And some of the later
commands that we will see in the verses
that follow.
That these are the words that he's going
to be tested with. Why? Because
with that which is good and that which
is
apparently bad as well.
So Imam itself may be a fitna and
may be a
for that person. Will he fulfill it?
It is said that al Imam al Shafi'i
was asked
which is better,
sabr patients
or almihna
being tested
or tamkeen.
So he said,
when a person,
is tested
by Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala, if they are
patient, if they have samr,
then they will attain
the temkin.
This level
of supreme
biggest prophets, right, of the messengers of Allah.

are

and of course Ibrahim.
The 5. But guess what?
Out of the 5,
he is the 2nd best.
Ibrahim
He is second only
to
Muhammad What more do you want?
He is second
to the best of humanity.
Abu Qasim, Muhammad
He is second to him only.
Alaihi Salatu wasalam. This is Ibrahim.
This is
Imama.
The Prophet
in the famous hadith of Sahih Muslim
when he was told to make dua.
So the Prophet twice
asked for forgiveness for this ummah.
And then for the third one,
he kept it
for the day of judgement.
He said, a day
where all
creation will come to me,
even Ibrahim,
which shows us
that Ibrahim
is the best after Muhammad sallallahu alaihi wa
sallam. He's second only to him.
And you can see the similarities
and
the connections
between Ibrahim and Prophet Muhammad alayhim wasallahu alaihi
wa salam.
Because both of them reached the highest level.
The highest level.
And that is
what?
The highest level
of a connection with Allah
What is it called?
Where are our imams?
If the kids don't know it, we go
to the imams.
Yes? The highest level?
Okay.
No. Highest level in the relationship with Allah.
We say Ibrahim
Al?
Al. Khalil. Khalil.
Thank you. Khalilullah. Barakalafiq
Al Khulla.
He is Ibrahim Al Khaleel.
What does Khalil mean? The closest you can
be.
When you talk about Khalil in the dunya,
the closest of friends,
the closest you can be to Allah is
this level,
that only Ibrahim alaihis salam reached
and Prophet Muhammad sallallahu alaihi wa sallam.
Ibrahim,
We call him Ibrahim Khali. Allah says,
Allah has taken Ibrahim as a Khali.
And the only other one is prophet Muhammad
sallallahu alaihi wa sallam.
Who said?
He who said?
If I were
not the Khalil of Allah, I would have
taken
Abu Bakr as a khalil.
But because he is the khalil of Allah,
so he cannot take Ibrahim as a Abu
Bakr as a khalil. Famous, authentic hadith. They
have reached the level of Famous, authentic hadith.
They have reached the level of Khulah, the
closest to Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala. Both of
them were tested,
and both of them fulfilled in the best
ways.
When we say when we pray and we
say the tahiyat, and then we say, salawatul
Ibrahimiyyah, we call it salawatul Ibrahimiyyah. Allah MusallAllahu
Muhammadu Ale Muhammad. Can I say later?
You see the connections.
Ibrahim alaihis salam is second only
to Muhammad
This is a great imam.
Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam
says,
and he connects himself and his deen. To
what?
To the of Ibrahim.
Right?
Ibrahim Hadifan.
There's always a reference to the of Ibrahim.
Though there are many centuries between them,
we jumped over so many of the prophets.
Aisha and Musa
and everyone between them of Ambiya bal Israel.
Going back to Ibrahim alayhis salam, Milat Ibrahim
al Halifa, the imam of Tawhid.
It is said that at his time,
there were no believers except
him
and his wife
and his nephew, Lut.
They were the only believers
on the face of the earth.
This is
You're gonna tell me we're out of time,
aren't you? What time is it, brother?

everyone
on this earth wants the best
for their progeny,
wants their descendants
to be the best,
wants their legacy
to live on
through their descendants.
We saw it with Zakariya alaihi salam as

when he asked
for such a legacy, for such
progeny
that will continue his legacy.
And Allah responded,
Ibrahim
and my descendants.
And here, this seems to be a request.
It seems to be a request by Ibrahim
alayhi salam to Allah
that he also makes the imam
in his descendants, in his progeny.
He wants them to be there as well.
But as we just saw,
if indeed
such a high level
can only be attained
through deeds,
through fulfilling the covenant of Allah
through being tested and passing the test,
then naturally
it cannot necessarily apply to every one of
his descendants.
But have they gone through the test that
Ibrahim alayhis salaam did?
Ultimately not.
And if they did, would they fulfill and
would they pass the test as Ibrahim alayhis
salaam passed it?
Not necessarily.
So how can we make imamah that way?
And this is why SubhanAllah Sayyid Qutb Rahimahullah
said
much about this issue.
The importance
of
the deeds
in order to gain such a high level.
Because it's not an issue of
descendants
or progeny.
It's not an issue of
my
relations.
It has nothing to do
with sons and fathers,
and kings and princes.
