00:00:00--> 00:00:02

Al Fata' the perpetual opener.

00:00:02--> 00:00:03

This is a name

00:00:04--> 00:00:06

that everybody who cares about a person

00:00:07--> 00:00:07

accepting

00:00:08--> 00:00:10

Islam should use and call upon. Al Fata'

00:00:10--> 00:00:12

is the perpetual opener. He's the one who

00:00:12--> 00:00:14

unlocks our hearts, unlocks our minds, and unlocks

00:00:14--> 00:00:16

the opportunities in front of us. And it

00:00:16--> 00:00:18

appears in Surah Saba when Allah says

00:00:22--> 00:00:24

Our Lord will bring us together, then he

00:00:24--> 00:00:25

will judge between us in truth, and he

00:00:25--> 00:00:27

is the knowing judge.

00:00:27--> 00:00:30

Al Fattah is the one who unlocks guidance.

00:00:30--> 00:00:31

The first meaning of Al Fattah that I

00:00:31--> 00:00:34

want you to know is that he is

00:00:34--> 00:00:36

the one who unlocks guidance. In the hadith

00:00:36--> 00:00:37

reported by Muslim, the prophet

00:00:38--> 00:00:39

said that Allah

00:00:39--> 00:00:40

said,

00:00:44--> 00:00:46

Oh my servants, all of you are misguided,

00:00:46--> 00:00:48

except those who I guided. So ask me

00:00:48--> 00:00:50

for guidance, and I will guide you. The

00:00:50--> 00:00:52

stories of the conversions of the companions are

00:00:52--> 00:00:54

too many to count, and the ways where

00:00:54--> 00:00:56

they were guided were just as varied. There

00:00:56--> 00:00:58

were those who Islam entered into their hearts

00:00:58--> 00:01:00

due to hearing the Quran, like.

00:01:01--> 00:01:03

There were those who accepted Islam because of

00:01:04--> 00:01:05

rational arguments such

00:01:06--> 00:01:09

as There were those who accepted Islam because

00:01:09--> 00:01:09

of

00:01:10--> 00:01:10

emotion

00:01:10--> 00:01:13

and protective instinct over their family, like Hamzib

00:01:13--> 00:01:16

ibn Abdul Muqtareb. Allah is a and he's

00:01:16--> 00:01:17

the one who opens the hearts to guidance.

00:01:18--> 00:01:19

So this is a name to be pronounced

00:01:19--> 00:01:20

on the tongue of anybody who wants guidance

00:01:20--> 00:01:21

for someone

00:01:22--> 00:01:24

or for themselves. The mother who worries constantly

00:01:24--> 00:01:26

about her children, fearing their distance from the

00:01:26--> 00:01:28

deen, calls out to

00:01:28--> 00:01:31

unlock their hearts to guidance. The convert who's

00:01:31--> 00:01:33

tasted the sweetness of faith and wants it

00:01:33--> 00:01:35

to be sweeter still by having their family

00:01:35--> 00:01:37

members join them in the truth that they've

00:01:37--> 00:01:39

discovered. And, yes, the superfan who follows this

00:01:39--> 00:01:42

athlete or influencer or personality and is so

00:01:42--> 00:01:45

impressed by them and supports them should realize

00:01:45--> 00:01:47

that the greatest support they could ever give

00:01:47--> 00:01:48

them is to ask Allah

00:01:48--> 00:01:50

to open their hearts to what will give

00:01:50--> 00:01:52

them happiness in this life and the next.

00:01:54--> 00:01:56

Is the one who opens up our hearts

00:01:56--> 00:01:57

to guide us. But number 2, is the

00:01:57--> 00:01:59

one who opens up the gates of mercy.

00:01:59--> 00:02:01

And so when you enter into the Masjid,

00:02:01--> 00:02:01

you say,

00:02:03--> 00:02:04

oh, Allah open up for me the gates

00:02:04--> 00:02:07

of your mercy because the masajid are the

00:02:07--> 00:02:09

the embassies of Jannah. They're the places where

00:02:09--> 00:02:11

you expect to experience mercy from

00:02:12--> 00:02:14

And these are the most beloved places to

00:02:14--> 00:02:15

Allah. And it's not a place that you

00:02:15--> 00:02:17

enter for any benefit of the dunya. Al

00:02:17--> 00:02:19

Fata' is the one who opens up the

00:02:19--> 00:02:21

gates of mercy and messaged our beautiful places

00:02:21--> 00:02:23

where you experience it. So number 3, Al

00:02:23--> 00:02:24

Fata' is the one who opens up the

00:02:24--> 00:02:26

gates of his bounty. And so when you're

00:02:26--> 00:02:29

actually leaving the Masjid, then you say,

00:02:30--> 00:02:32

Allah open for me the gates of your

00:02:32--> 00:02:34

bounty. Because when you're going out into the

00:02:34--> 00:02:35

world, I've left the masjid, the masjid is

00:02:35--> 00:02:36

a place of mercy. It's not a place

00:02:36--> 00:02:38

with the dunya. But when I go out

00:02:38--> 00:02:40

to the dunya, I wanna conquer the dunya.

00:02:40--> 00:02:42

I wanna be successful in every avenue of

00:02:42--> 00:02:43

human endeavor. If I'm a student, I wanna

00:02:43--> 00:02:46

be incredibly successful in my studies. Whatever realm

00:02:46--> 00:02:48

of endeavor I am in, I wanna go

00:02:48--> 00:02:50

out into this world and I wanna be

00:02:50--> 00:02:51

excellent in it. And so you ask as

00:02:51--> 00:02:53

you're leaving the Masjid, you say,

00:02:54--> 00:02:55

and Allah

00:02:55--> 00:02:56

says

00:03:00--> 00:03:01

This dichotomy

00:03:01--> 00:03:04

is very beautifully presented in Surat Al Jumah.

00:03:04--> 00:03:05

Allah says, when the call for prayer has

00:03:05--> 00:03:08

been done, then leave the dunya and come

00:03:08--> 00:03:09

to the remembrance of Allah

00:03:10--> 00:03:11

But Allah says,

00:03:14--> 00:03:16

When the prayer has been concluded,

00:03:16--> 00:03:18

disperse within the land and seek from the

00:03:18--> 00:03:20

bounty of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala.

00:03:21--> 00:03:22

And remember Allah

00:03:22--> 00:03:23

a lot.

00:03:24--> 00:03:25

That you may be successful. So when you

00:03:25--> 00:03:26

leave the Masjid, you wanna go out and

00:03:26--> 00:03:28

you wanna seek the world, wanna seek the

00:03:28--> 00:03:29

bounty of Allah

00:03:30--> 00:03:31

and when you're leaving, you say,

00:03:34--> 00:03:34

or you say,

00:03:36--> 00:03:37

Oh, Allah, I'm asking you from your bounty

00:03:37--> 00:03:39

because now you want to go out into

00:03:39--> 00:03:41

this world. You wanna achieve your ambitions. So

00:03:41--> 00:03:42

you ask Allah

00:03:43--> 00:03:45

to grant you that bounty. Number 4, is

00:03:45--> 00:03:46

the one who opens up the gates of

00:03:46--> 00:03:48

knowledge and understanding. When you look at some

00:03:48--> 00:03:50

of the greatest and most prolific scholars in

00:03:50--> 00:03:52

the history of Islam, we would do well

00:03:52--> 00:03:54

to recognize that they didn't just rely on

00:03:54--> 00:03:56

their brilliance, but sought understanding and knowledge from

00:03:56--> 00:03:57

Allah.

00:03:58--> 00:04:00

As Shafi'i, he complained to Waqi'i, his teacher

00:04:00--> 00:04:02

famously, about his weakness of his memory, and

00:04:02--> 00:04:03

he

00:04:03--> 00:04:05

was told by Waqiya to leave sins, and

00:04:05--> 00:04:07

he codified it in poetry. He said,

00:04:15--> 00:04:18

says, I complained to about the poorness of

00:04:18--> 00:04:20

my memory, and leaving sins is what he

00:04:20--> 00:04:22

guided me to address. And he told me

00:04:22--> 00:04:24

that this knowledge is light, and the light

00:04:24--> 00:04:26

of Allah is not given to those who

00:04:26--> 00:04:27

transgress. And Sheikh whose

00:04:29--> 00:04:30

memory was also incredible,

00:04:31--> 00:04:34

he didn't rely though on his own intelligence.

00:04:34--> 00:04:36

And if something was unclear to him, he

00:04:36--> 00:04:37

would say,

00:04:43--> 00:04:46

Oh you who taught Adam and Ibrahim, teach

00:04:46--> 00:04:49

me. And oh you who gave Suleyman understanding,

00:04:49--> 00:04:50

give me understanding. Because Allah

00:04:51--> 00:04:51

says,

00:04:54--> 00:04:57

Allah gave Adam the knowledge of the names.

00:04:57--> 00:04:57

And Allah

00:04:59--> 00:05:02

says, we gave Suleyman understanding of an issue.

00:05:02--> 00:05:03

And so he's

00:05:03--> 00:05:04

invoking Allah

00:05:04--> 00:05:07

Like you gave them understanding, give me understanding.

00:05:07--> 00:05:08

Like you gave them knowledge, give me knowledge.

00:05:08--> 00:05:10

The point here is that he's sourcing his

00:05:10--> 00:05:11

knowledge from Allah

00:05:12--> 00:05:14

He's sourcing knowledge from Al Fata'a. This is

00:05:14--> 00:05:17

a name to be requested by every writer,

00:05:17--> 00:05:19

every creative, every artist, every student,

00:05:19--> 00:05:21

everyone who's standing at the gates of knowledge

00:05:21--> 00:05:22

or understanding. And finally,

00:05:22--> 00:05:23

is the one who guides us at the

00:05:23--> 00:05:25

end. The prophet

00:05:25--> 00:05:28

says, if Allah desires good for a person,

00:05:28--> 00:05:30

he sweetens them. He said, how are they

00:05:30--> 00:05:31

sweetened, You Rasulullah?

00:05:31--> 00:05:32

He said, Allah opens.

00:05:33--> 00:05:35

He opens for them an act of goodness

00:05:35--> 00:05:37

before they pass away, and then he takes

00:05:37--> 00:05:39

them upon the action. Finally, how does a

00:05:39--> 00:05:41

person engage with this name?

00:05:41--> 00:05:42

Number 1, Tuhhid, the prophet

00:05:43--> 00:05:45

said, there's never a person who sincerely says,

00:05:46--> 00:05:49

there's nothing worthy of worship except Allah, except

00:05:49--> 00:05:51

that the doors of the heavens are open

00:05:51--> 00:05:54

for them until that statement ascends to the

00:05:54--> 00:05:55

throne as long as they avoid the major

00:05:55--> 00:05:57

sins. And the hadith is reported by Timothy.

00:05:57--> 00:05:59

Also number 2, taqwa. Allah

00:06:00--> 00:06:01

says, if the people of the towns had

00:06:01--> 00:06:03

belief and taqwa,

00:06:04--> 00:06:06

we would have opened up for them from

00:06:06--> 00:06:08

the heavens and the earth. But they denied

00:06:08--> 00:06:10

the messengers, so he seized them for what

00:06:10--> 00:06:11

they were earning. And so iman and taqwa

00:06:11--> 00:06:13

become a means of the opening of the

00:06:13--> 00:06:14

doors of Allah's

00:06:14--> 00:06:15

blessings. Allah

00:06:16--> 00:06:18

opens up blessings from the heavens and the

00:06:18--> 00:06:20

earth. And so these are 2 ways, but

00:06:20--> 00:06:22

then there's a third, and that is to

00:06:22--> 00:06:24

be an unlocker of goodness. Said,

00:06:25--> 00:06:27

there are some people who are unlockers of

00:06:27--> 00:06:29

goodness and lockers of evil. And there are

00:06:29--> 00:06:31

some people who are lockers of goodness

00:06:31--> 00:06:34

and unlockers of evil. So glad tidings be

00:06:34--> 00:06:37

for everybody who's an unlocker of goodness and

00:06:37--> 00:06:40

will be for everybody who's an unlocker of

00:06:40--> 00:06:41

evil. May Allah

00:06:42--> 00:06:45

open up our hearts to guidance. May Allah

00:06:46--> 00:06:48

open up our hearts to understanding. And may

00:06:50--> 00:06:52

goodness in this life and the next.

00:06:50--> 00:06:52

goodness in this life and the next.
