Alhamdulillah wa salatu salam ala rasulillah

jela continuing with our series on the life of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam at Sierra Nevada we had the prophetic biography. In the last couple of sessions we've been discussing and talking about the Battle of the trench because what's

also known as the Battle of the allied armies, who has worked with or has worked to conduct the Battle of the trench, the Battle of the allied armies.

So, we in the last couple of sessions we've discussed and talked about exactly what led up to the battle, the plan that was hatched by some of the leaders of bedroom, Naveed and Bunnell taneytown, who were ousted from Medina, exiled from the city of Medina, because they violated the Constitution of the city of Medina. And then they got together with some of the Arab tribes of the north from hazzan. They also were able to recruit who of course, had a very long standing issue, continuous issue with the Muslims and the prophets a lot a sentiment the city of Medina, so they were able to put together this entire army in March on their way towards the city of Medina. We talked about how

the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam after consultation based on the suggestion of Solomon and Pharisees with the Allahu taala, and who they dug a trench, on the exposed side of the city of Medina, of course, there were mountains, securing a certain side, but they dug a trench. And we talked about some of the miraculous events in the beautiful brotherhood and sisterhood and community, and the strength of faith and conviction that was displayed by the prophets, a lot of them of course, but also by the Sahaba, the Muslims, the companions of the prophets and lobbies, and then did the digging up this trench and the enduring of all the difficulty and all the adversity

that they were dealing with in terms of hunger, and a lack of financial resources, the imminent approach of a very overwhelming enemy. And in the face of all of this, they displayed, not only just simply courage, but also more importantly, faith and belief among

what we're going to talk about today is after the trench was dug, and the army, this allied army, arrived outside of the trench outside of the city of Medina, basically what happened at that time? And what were some of the interactions. Now, I'm going to remind myself and everyone who's here are listening, of the importance and the significance of context. So even though this might be something that you've heard before, and I know for a fact I've mentioned it a number of times, but it is very important to remind ourselves and to also because we're starting from the middle here of the story. So I wouldn't want somebody to just be listening to this to not be aware of the context that a lot

of times what has transpired, and this is very unfortunate, and it actually is a disservice to our reading. It's a disservice to the Quran, it's a disservice to the life of the prophets, a lot of them the prophetic biography to see them. When we out of context, tell stories or narrate stories about battles, or about confrontation about such and such person killing such and such person, and this person killed that person. And we described scenarios, fierce scenarios from the battlefield, and we almost pulled them out of their context and present them like a highlights. What that does is that takes away the entire context.

And the negative outcome of that is twofold. Number one, in the minds of many young or impressionable Muslims, who might not be fully grounded in their faith and their emotion in the history of their Deen in their religion, they can start to develop an idea or walk away with the impression that Islam that's a core part of Islam or something very abnormal or notable in Islam is the basis

Be bloodthirsty to go on a rampage killing people. And that that somehow is some very notable glorified heroic notion of Islam. And that's very deeply problematic.

The second danger of approaching things without context, where we almost present like a highlight reel from the battlefield, and that is the life of the Prophet Salamis. And that's the serum. This is a hobby, killing that guy. And it's a hobby killing that guy in this hobby, killing four guys in the battlefield. And that's it, that also in the minds of non Muslims. It also portrays the complete opposite impression of what people actually felt when they interacted with the prophets a lot. He said, people walked away with this overwhelming sense of mercy and compassion, and empathy and forgiveness and kindness and generosity and gentleness, from Mr. Medina lucky Linton Allah. Allah

Rahmatullah Allah. And so it really distorts the image of Islam. And I, I'll be the first to admit that there are people out there in our world today, who are not interested in the context, who are picking and choosing what they highlight and what they emphasize from our history. And they will take things out of context in order to vilify Muslims to vilify Islam, there's no doubt in them. Absolutely, there will be those people. But those people by and far will be a minority of the people. And a majority of the people are in search of truth.

And so we do a disservice to them, we do a disservice to ourselves, we do a disservice to our Dean, when we do not understand context. So just I won't spend a lot of time in this because the the folks that are regularly either following along with the series or attending on a regular basis, that, you know, I don't want to waste your time and I want to move forward with the narrative and the incidents of the Battle of the trench. But I will spend a minute or two just reminding ourselves of the context here. This is happening in the fifth year of the fifth year of the Prophet celebrations residence in the city of Medina. That means this is 18 years after the prophets will always receive

revelation.

So for 18 years for the first 13 years in Makkah, the Prophet sallallahu Sallam and the Muslims and anyone who would dare to empathize with them and support them. Were were ridiculed. They were mocked, they were belittled, they were tortured, they were murdered, they were assassinated, kicked out of their homes, chased out of their own homes. That was their life for 13 years. Then when they leave their homes and their families behind them, they go to the city of Medina. They're not left alone. They're, they're constantly harassed, and pursued, and people come after them. And they're sneaking, they're spying. They're scouting the city of Medina, they're, they're conducting raids on

the city of Medina. They're trying to pick off Muslims and trying to still kill Muslims wherever they can find them. And not once, but twice, they have marched entire armies in the direction of the city of Medina, the Battle of

the Battle of Oakland happened right outside the city of Medina. So this is their context. Now, two years after the bottom level hook, what happens now? They they get together a force and we're going to read about it, but I'll go ahead and mention and now they gather a force of 10,000 people, 10,000 soldiers, that might not sound like a big deal to somebody today. Right? Somebody might say what the Cowboys game there's 90,000 people, right? Well, what's 10,000 people, but when you think about it from a historical perspective, and you understand the circumstances at that time, and how numbers work back then an army of 10,000 is huge, and very overwhelming, and very difficult to overcome.

They gather together an army of 10,000 and they marched right up to the city of Medina with every intent to murder every single person in the city of Medina to pillage the city of Medina and burn it to the ground. And the Muslims are so overwhelmed and so outnumbered. And in such a state of just physical, not not spiritual, not spiritual or psychological or emotional, but physical. They're in such an physically they're in such a state of weakness, that they have no choice but to stay within Medina dig a trench around Medina and just fortify themselves inside the city and make your art to Allah subhanho wa Taala to save them. That's the context. There is a bloodthirsty

Hungry ruthless army that out numbers that, you know three to one, four to one camped out outside their city, waiting for the first opportunity to come there and murder every single one of them men, women, children, everybody. That's the context. Now once we understand the context now let's read exactly what happened.

So even is how one of the early historians and scholars of this era he says that after the prophets a lot ism was done, was done the meaning the Muslims were done digging the trench around the city of Medina. Qureshi arrived near the city of Medina, you know, with 10,000 soldiers. And this was a combination of some of the Jewish tribes, the Quraysh, some of the tribes of hazzan and others, they arrived outside their their profits a lot is in the trench was dug. That is the that is a penalty for the crime. Because you can no longer be trusted, you have violated the trust of your of your of your neighbor, right people who

occupied the city together. This tribe have been around for a while not only did they not hold up their end of the bargain, where they would come to the aid of the city of the Muslims to protect the city of Medina. But in fact, they went even further. Unfortunately, what they ended up doing was they ended up joining the Allied army against the Muslims. And so there's a very interesting conversation and

exchange that displays their guilds. And this is why as we're going to talk about, but I've never once even objected, they never once tried to say no, no, we didn't do it, because this was a very deliberate decision on their part to stab the Muslims in the back and to violate the constitution of the city of Medina. So at that time, he kind of called him out called on the sensitivities. So he opens the door for him. And he says that way. And I've come with you with an ocean of people. He's referring to the army of 10,000 he said I have waves upon waves upon waves of soldiers. So he says what Madoka What are you talking about? Right, when things are already difficult, another huge tragedy, another difficulty might unfold. And it's very overwhelming. But a part of the responsibility of leadership at that time is that if you feel that the people that are following you who are already suffering and struggling, right, that if you feel that this, this new development

will crush them, it'll break them, then part of the wisdom of leadership is to protect your flock to protect your people from this even this information,

that you bear the brunt of it, you shoulder the responsibility of it to protect their sanity

and make sure that you don't break them under all that pressure. So the profits amongst everyone hears this news that blooper Eva has violated the agreements. They're out and they joined with the forces. We now have an enemy right here on our borders,

the profits along some very quietly close out

More often shall be no better because you can trust them. And they're also leaders.

The Prophet of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam.

And they realize this must not be good news. The prophets, a lot of them seems overwhelmed.

And so people started to get kind of, you know, fidgety.

Like the Sahaba, the alarm started getting a little anxious, what's going to happen, what happened, what happened, this doesn't look good. This doesn't sound good.

The profits, a lot of them set up, remove the cloth from his face, and he said up, she'll be fat free like

Congratulations, victory and hope from Allah is coming.

And the profit or loss of a loved one he was selling them. At that time, he made

A lot of these people, they would just start making more and more trouble. Right? So and they would end up exposing themselves. So one of the hypocrites he said at that time, he said

he says that our homes are exposed now. Our families are in danger now. And so we need to go home. We're not going to stand here and fight with you. We're going to go and protect our own families.

remember when a group of them said old people of yesterday, referring to Medina by its old name, trying to say that it was better before Muhammad and his people came here.
