Seerah 040 – The Prophet, Utba bin Rabi’ah & Surah Fussilat

This week, we're going to be talking about a very famous conversation that took place between the Prophet of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam and one of the leaders of Quraysh, one of the key opponents to the message of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam and a very prominent member of his society.

So currently, right now, chronologically, speaking, we're probably

you know, discussing the end of the third beginning of the fourth year of the sea and all the life of the Prophet sallallahu sallam, excuse me, were when the end of the third beginning of the fourth year of prophethood, from the life of the prophets, a lot a Selim. But nevertheless, this was their diplomacy. So they had they had tried this a couple of times. But then they started resorting to violence and aggression. And when that wasn't working either, then what did they decide to do? So there's a very interesting narration that mentions the next course of action. And there are various different variations of the same narration that are mentioned in different books of Hadith by different scholars of Sierra and Hadeeth.

And I'll share some of the variations with you.

But the most detailed version of the story is mentioned by some of the scholars of Hadith and Sierra. And they mentioned this is narrated by Jabir bin Abdullah, he says, It's from operation Yeoman, that Quraysh got together the leadership, the brainchild of Quraysh, they gathered together and they said

that who amongst us would be the most qualified the most knowledgeable the best at identifying magic or poetry or gin possession or insanity, mental instability, who wouldn't be able to recognize these things the best
