Hajj Faq 08 – What Are the Things You Cannot Do When in the State of Ihram

sama shake. I'm thinking of going to Hutch and I just want to ask you a very simple question, what are the things that we should or should not do? Or can or cannot do whilst in the state of a farm? I've asked this question to several different people and they all seem to have different opinions. And I would appreciate your clarification on this. Thank you. It's my level handily. When a person wants to undertake the pilgrimage of either Hajj, or Umrah then they need to enter into a state which is called haram.

Now the word Haram is very close to and is taken from as you may stand understood from haram or haram, which means to prevent almanor meaning that when you enter into this state of haram, then there are certain things or certain restrictions placed upon you that while in this state that you're no longer allowed to engage or do that, while in this state. It is a sacred state you can say a very special state, which you are preparing yourself to undertake a very beautiful act of Ayurveda either the Hajj or Umrah now the Haram that you enter into both men and women is the same for Umrah and Hajj that there is no different state, of course, the intention will be different, that what you

make at the very start, but when you are in the State of Iran, the restrictions upon you whether you're in Hajj or Umrah that they are the same.

The Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam mentioned certain restrictions, while a person is in a state of the Haram that they should not engage in. Some of those are specific to men. And some of those are specific to women, and others, both men and women are subject to

the first one, which both men and women are subjected to. That is the removal of any hair.

Meaning that while you are in a state of haram, you do not trim your hair, cut your hair, you should refrain from that. Okay. And as we know, in the verse in Surah, Baqarah, That Allah subhanaw taala says, do not shave your heads until the sacrifice has been brought and heard that it has been made. So that's the first thing you should refrain from. Now

what is done intentionally is clear. You don't essentially pull out hair from your beard for a man that is or Won't she will pull out hair from her, you know, under hijab and things like that. These things absolutely, you should avoid. Does that mean that you're not allowed to comb your hair, you're not allowed to brush your hair, or even your beard for that matter while in the State of Iran? No, it doesn't mean that. However, you should take care not to do so rigorously that you know you're going to stop pulling hair out of your head or if you have your beard, but to keep tidy that it is not a problem in Charlottetown. So that is the first thing you need to remember of not shaving

or removing any hair.

The second one is not to remove or rather is not to use any perfume while in the state of a haram

prior before you enter into the State of Iran. It is allowed for the man to use perfume and in fact I showed her the Allahu Ana she mentioned that she herself applied perfume to the Prophet salallahu Alaihe Salam before he entered in the State of Iran he could she could see Radi Allahu anha the beads of perfume in his beard it salatu salam

now when you apply the perfume to yourself, you have to ensure that you do not perfume the actual clothing that you will wear while in the state of haram the clothes will be haram the two white sheets which pretty much you know 99.9% of people if not all Muslims, they males that of course they were in a state of haram make sure that no perfume gets on to that clothing and bearing in mind that if you have you know, let's say you you bought any haram before and you put it in a washing machine and then you're going to wash it try to wash it without you know all these big soaps and conditioners and things like that. So it comes out you know smelling of flowers and things like

that. Okay, this is something you should avoid. Nonetheless it's okay for you to have a clean aroma and has to be clean, but not using all those extra materials to ensure that it has that floral beautifulest matter what are we going to use which would come under perfuming the actual clothes of the Haram so using perfume before

is permitted. Using it afterwards is not permitted. Okay, what are the issues I can connect it to this is allowed to shower. Is it allowed to clean yourself while in the State of Iran? Yes, absolutely. It is allowed. So if you use water, and Alhamdulillah now the options where you can use it

unscented soaps, they don't have a scent at all. So therefore, you can show that you can use shampoos and soaps and shower gels and things like that that are unscented. You can use that while in the state of haram. Absolutely no problem in shallow Thailand.

What about toothpaste? Does toothpaste? Does that come under perfuming? Well, if we look at it carefully, that yes, the the toothpaste does have a mint fragrance or something like that. Does anyone use toothpaste as a perfume? Absolutely not. Okay, so using toothpaste, while in a state of Iran is not a problem, I shall have to add.

The third restriction, while in the State of Iran is marital relations between the husband and wife what we need is full on marital relations between the husband and wife this is not permitted, while in the State of Iran, and if engaged will actually invalidate the Hajj or Umrah if someone wants to engage in the marital relations between husband and wife. While in the State of Iran, this is the third one. And the fourth one, which is closely linked to that is this, the spouses touching each other with desire. The spouses should not touch each other with desire, kissing and cuddling thing and things like that, while in the State of Iran. Okay, this is the fourth restriction, while in the

State of Iran, the fifth one is hunting, hunting wild in the State of Iran. Now, this is probably the least likely

along with another one that we're likely to engage in, while in the state that we are on, nobody's gonna go out into the desert and start hunting animals and things like that. You go to restaurants and things like that. And you can you know, eat that food, then the person may say, Well, maybe that food was hunted, you eating it, that's fine. You didn't hunt it. Okay, somebody else did, he wasn't in a state of haram. So, that's not applicable to you, okay. So, this was the fifth one is that you go out hunting wild in the state of of Iran.

The sixth one, which is applicable to men alone. Now, the first five are both men and women. As we mentioned, some are applicable to men and some are applicable to women and some are both the first five are both men and women. Women they are permitted to wear anything that they like and try to tailor their normal dress. And the seventh one is the exception for women.
