One of the key important components of maintaining

00:00:13 --> 00:00:15

balance, right? Balance is one of the important

00:00:15 --> 00:00:16

qualities

00:00:16 --> 00:00:17

of

00:00:19 --> 00:00:21

a a mature Muslim

00:00:22 --> 00:00:24

and what I mean by mature is emotionally

00:00:24 --> 00:00:26

physically and intellectually mature

00:00:29 --> 00:00:30

is balance Allah

00:00:31 --> 00:00:31

says Allah

00:00:32 --> 00:00:33

says

00:00:33 --> 00:00:34

that

00:00:35 --> 00:00:36

you know the

00:00:37 --> 00:00:37

the scales

00:00:39 --> 00:00:41

right, should not be violated. You hear me

00:00:41 --> 00:00:43

in the scales in the world around us,

00:00:43 --> 00:00:45

the environment that we live in.

00:00:48 --> 00:00:50

And then takes it from that to the

00:00:50 --> 00:00:50

actual

00:00:51 --> 00:00:53

engagements that we have with one another. So

00:00:53 --> 00:00:54

in Surahman

00:00:54 --> 00:00:56

in the very beginning you see something very

00:00:56 --> 00:00:57

profound Allah begins

00:00:58 --> 00:01:01

talking about how he has established justice and

00:01:01 --> 00:01:05

balance and creation and then extends that into

00:01:05 --> 00:01:10

even things like our business engagement.

00:01:10 --> 00:01:12

And then extends that into even things like

00:01:12 --> 00:01:15

our business engagement so the idea of now

00:01:16 --> 00:01:18

balance being something which is one of the

00:01:18 --> 00:01:20

major underlying principles of the Deen,

00:01:21 --> 00:01:22

subhanAllah and

00:01:23 --> 00:01:26

Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala says in Surat Al

00:01:26 --> 00:01:26

Baqarah

00:01:27 --> 00:01:27

Allah

00:01:28 --> 00:01:30

subhanahu wa ta'ala says in

00:01:30 --> 00:01:31

Surat Al Baqarah,

00:01:31 --> 00:01:33

we have made you the Ummah, the religious

00:01:33 --> 00:01:35

community which is a community

00:01:35 --> 00:01:38

which is a balanced community, which is a

00:01:38 --> 00:01:39

community of balance.

00:01:40 --> 00:01:42

It's interesting that this is verse number 143

00:01:43 --> 00:01:45

and Surat Al Baqarah is 286

00:01:46 --> 00:01:47

verses.

00:01:47 --> 00:01:49

So this is happening subhanAllah,

00:01:49 --> 00:01:52

the verse that says our ability to heal

00:01:52 --> 00:01:52

a fractured

00:01:53 --> 00:01:55

world to lead a world and to be

00:01:55 --> 00:01:57

at the forefront of religious as well as

00:01:58 --> 00:02:01

material guidance is conditioned on our ability as

00:02:01 --> 00:02:03

an Ummah to be balanced subhanallah

00:02:04 --> 00:02:07

and Allahu subhanahu wa ta'ala mentions the ability

00:02:07 --> 00:02:09

to balance and to nuance and think about

00:02:09 --> 00:02:11

things as being one of the 3

00:02:12 --> 00:02:14

things that he sent so that people could

00:02:14 --> 00:02:15

establish justice.

00:02:16 --> 00:02:18

He says at the end of the chapter

00:02:18 --> 00:02:19

called the iron sotul hadid

00:02:27 --> 00:02:28

after

00:02:33 --> 00:02:36

Allah says that indeed we sent messengers

00:02:36 --> 00:02:38

with clear signs and

00:02:39 --> 00:02:40

we revealed to them

00:02:42 --> 00:02:43

we sent to them

00:02:45 --> 00:02:48

books and we sent to them the mizen

00:02:48 --> 00:02:50

and the mizen means what the ability to

00:02:50 --> 00:02:53

keep things to scale to weight is mizen.

00:02:54 --> 00:02:56

So the ability to weigh things

00:02:57 --> 00:02:59

and find a moderate insha'atla path

00:03:00 --> 00:03:01

that does not The truth,

00:03:02 --> 00:03:04

it's very difficult to maintain balance

00:03:04 --> 00:03:06

just as a structural engineer.

00:03:07 --> 00:03:07

It's very

00:03:08 --> 00:03:10

difficult to maintain balance

00:03:10 --> 00:03:13

just ask anyone who's in any field that

00:03:13 --> 00:03:14

demands either

00:03:14 --> 00:03:15

mathematical

00:03:15 --> 00:03:16

equations

00:03:16 --> 00:03:19

or the physical achievement the physical achievement of

00:03:19 --> 00:03:21

balance. It's not easy. It's

00:03:21 --> 00:03:22

a that's why we say.

00:03:24 --> 00:03:28

The path that is absolutely straight that is

00:03:28 --> 00:03:28

perfectly

00:03:29 --> 00:03:30

balanced subhanAllah

00:03:30 --> 00:03:33

and one of the challenges of a postmodern

00:03:33 --> 00:03:36

age an age for which there is no

00:03:36 --> 00:03:36

foundations

00:03:37 --> 00:03:39

an age for which you can have whatever

00:03:39 --> 00:03:40

you want and,

00:03:41 --> 00:03:42

digital television

00:03:42 --> 00:03:45

or cable television is the best example of

00:03:45 --> 00:03:46

this. You could be watching

00:03:46 --> 00:03:47

a religious program,

00:03:48 --> 00:03:50

you could change the channel, and you'd be

00:03:50 --> 00:03:52

binge watching the movie saw. So you just

00:03:52 --> 00:03:54

went from, like, you know, religious programming

00:03:54 --> 00:03:57

to saw, like, that is wrecking havoc on

00:03:57 --> 00:03:59

the soul. There is no foundation, it's just

00:03:59 --> 00:04:02

a mix, it's a gumbo of Hawa. That's

00:04:02 --> 00:04:04

why Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala when he describes

00:04:04 --> 00:04:06

the people of Mecca, pay attention to this.

00:04:06 --> 00:04:07

And so, he

00:04:08 --> 00:04:08

says,

00:04:10 --> 00:04:11

they are

00:04:14 --> 00:04:15

means to join.

00:04:17 --> 00:04:17

Means

00:04:17 --> 00:04:19

that they are mixed up just like how

00:04:19 --> 00:04:21

the sea, the water, and the sea is

00:04:21 --> 00:04:22

mixed together.

00:04:22 --> 00:04:25

These people in their affairs have no foundations,

00:04:26 --> 00:04:28

they're bottomless, so they're just mixed

00:04:29 --> 00:04:31

and that is a perfect description really to

00:04:31 --> 00:04:33

fit this age. And when you couple this

00:04:33 --> 00:04:35

with the the the impact of COVID nineteen,

00:04:36 --> 00:04:37

and now we see and we pray for

00:04:37 --> 00:04:39

the people all over the world being impacted

00:04:39 --> 00:04:41

by these horrible, very difficult

00:04:41 --> 00:04:44

fires, it becomes very important to find rootage,

00:04:46 --> 00:04:46

anchorage,

00:04:47 --> 00:04:48

because if not as

00:04:52 --> 00:04:54

you become like the branch just wherever the

00:04:54 --> 00:04:55

wind is blowing, I'm going.

00:04:57 --> 00:04:59

Whatever is popping, I'm good with it. And

00:04:59 --> 00:05:01

that's why we have to ask ourselves as

00:05:01 --> 00:05:02

a Muslim community.

00:05:03 --> 00:05:05

If we were to look at, for example,

00:05:06 --> 00:05:08

the the work of people in certain spaces,

00:05:09 --> 00:05:10

is it simply regurgitating

00:05:11 --> 00:05:12

what is

00:05:14 --> 00:05:16

popular? Or is it sticking to a principled

00:05:17 --> 00:05:19

set of ideas and strategies

00:05:20 --> 00:05:21

that doesn't change.

00:05:23 --> 00:05:25

Because if we're just simply adopting

00:05:26 --> 00:05:26

and regurgitating

00:05:27 --> 00:05:28

and recycling

00:05:29 --> 00:05:32

what the society around us says is great

00:05:32 --> 00:05:34

and what the society around us says is

00:05:34 --> 00:05:35

bad,

00:05:35 --> 00:05:38

then there's no way we can truly say

00:05:38 --> 00:05:40

that we have not been compromised

00:05:41 --> 00:05:42

in the office of prophethood

00:05:44 --> 00:05:45

because the office of prophethood

00:05:46 --> 00:05:47

is not easy.

00:05:48 --> 00:05:49

It's not an easy place

00:05:50 --> 00:05:52

some of the prophets had no followers, prophets

00:05:53 --> 00:05:55

said some prophets had no followers

00:05:55 --> 00:05:57

Just imagine like if you are a prophet

00:05:57 --> 00:05:59

and on Instagram, you have 0 followers

00:06:00 --> 00:06:01

and like you were putting out that that

00:06:01 --> 00:06:03

amazing content,

00:06:03 --> 00:06:06

the truth it had no in it, but

00:06:06 --> 00:06:07

you have 0 followers

00:06:08 --> 00:06:10

or on Facebook. You have 0 followers

00:06:10 --> 00:06:11

or on TikTok

00:06:12 --> 00:06:13

0 followers,

00:06:14 --> 00:06:15

but you knew

00:06:15 --> 00:06:18

that what you had was the truth and

00:06:18 --> 00:06:19

now we can appreciate why I say the

00:06:19 --> 00:06:23

Muhammad Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam said to his uncle.

00:06:23 --> 00:06:25

If you put the sun in my right

00:06:25 --> 00:06:27

hand in the moon in my left hand,

00:06:27 --> 00:06:29

I'm not changing anything.

00:06:30 --> 00:06:31

I'm not letting it go

00:06:32 --> 00:06:34

one of the the dangerous kind of

00:06:35 --> 00:06:39

I would say, ethos of contemporary society

00:06:39 --> 00:06:41

that has seeped in

00:06:42 --> 00:06:44

in some ways to the Muslim community

00:06:44 --> 00:06:46

is a lack of respect for the sacred.

00:06:48 --> 00:06:51

And respecting the sacred is a key to

00:06:51 --> 00:06:52

balance

00:06:52 --> 00:06:55

and respect respecting the sacred is a key

00:06:55 --> 00:06:58

to being able to live a life of

00:06:58 --> 00:06:58

submission.

00:06:59 --> 00:07:02

Respecting the sacred is a key

00:07:03 --> 00:07:05

to being able to to live

00:07:06 --> 00:07:07

a life of submission

00:07:07 --> 00:07:09

because that's where it all starts.

00:07:10 --> 00:07:12

And we live now in an age where

00:07:12 --> 00:07:13

it it could be argued

00:07:13 --> 00:07:16

that the sacred the the notion of something

00:07:16 --> 00:07:18

being sacred is suspect.

00:07:21 --> 00:07:23

That everything is open to be defiled.

00:07:25 --> 00:07:27

In the name of, you know, turning back

00:07:27 --> 00:07:27

tradition,

00:07:28 --> 00:07:30

in the name of as one brother told

00:07:30 --> 00:07:31

me recently, he said, I'm a progressive. I

00:07:31 --> 00:07:33

said, you're a progressive. Where are you headed?

00:07:34 --> 00:07:35

If you're progressing,

00:07:36 --> 00:07:38

right, we're all progressives

00:07:38 --> 00:07:39

because the

00:07:40 --> 00:07:43

Quran says you are progressing to your death.

00:07:43 --> 00:07:45

You are progressing to Allah. And, of course,

00:07:45 --> 00:07:47

this is not to attack the left or

00:07:47 --> 00:07:49

right. Here, I'm just talking about terminology.

00:07:50 --> 00:07:51

But where are you going?

00:07:52 --> 00:07:52

The

00:07:53 --> 00:07:55

Quran says, where are you headed then? Where

00:07:55 --> 00:07:56

are you going? And I asked him and

00:07:56 --> 00:07:57

he said, dad, I don't have an answer.

00:07:57 --> 00:07:59

Then what are you progress you are progressing

00:07:59 --> 00:08:00

to an unknown abyss.

00:08:03 --> 00:08:04

So the Quran

00:08:06 --> 00:08:07

immediately immediately

00:08:08 --> 00:08:09

allows us

00:08:09 --> 00:08:11

to lens the existence

00:08:12 --> 00:08:14

through 2 things that if we understand them

00:08:14 --> 00:08:16

well, I'm gonna talk about one today,

00:08:18 --> 00:08:20

will help fortify us as we go through

00:08:20 --> 00:08:21

the difficulties of this world.

00:08:23 --> 00:08:24

And the first

00:08:25 --> 00:08:26

is focusing on the hereafter

00:08:27 --> 00:08:28

as the ultimate

00:08:28 --> 00:08:31

end to everything. That's why the Quran, if

00:08:31 --> 00:08:33

you understand Arabic, it's profound. It says

00:08:36 --> 00:08:37

It doesn't say

00:08:40 --> 00:08:41

It's difficult to translate.

00:08:42 --> 00:08:42

Means the ending,

00:08:43 --> 00:08:45

but there could be other other endings to

00:08:45 --> 00:08:46

come later.

00:08:46 --> 00:08:47

But

00:08:48 --> 00:08:49

means the last

00:08:50 --> 00:08:50

end.

00:08:51 --> 00:08:52

There's nothing

00:08:53 --> 00:08:54

after that.

00:09:00 --> 00:09:01

And of course, Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala.

00:09:04 --> 00:09:06

We're not comparing him to time or space,

00:09:06 --> 00:09:08

but the idea is that that's the last

00:09:08 --> 00:09:09

stop

00:09:09 --> 00:09:12

and that's why the word is used life

00:09:12 --> 00:09:15

is like a series of stops at stations.

00:09:15 --> 00:09:17

I'm stopping at Court Street

00:09:17 --> 00:09:19

right. I'm stopping at 8th Street.

00:09:20 --> 00:09:22

I'm topping. I'm stopping at Times Square. I'm

00:09:22 --> 00:09:23

headed uptown

00:09:24 --> 00:09:25

but for the believer,

00:09:26 --> 00:09:28

where am I stopping and where am I

00:09:28 --> 00:09:30

heading? We'll talk about that next time

00:09:30 --> 00:09:33

and the second thing that helps us a

00:09:33 --> 00:09:34

life of submission

00:09:35 --> 00:09:36

is respecting the sacred

00:09:37 --> 00:09:38

acknowledging the sacred.

00:09:40 --> 00:09:40

And Allah

00:09:43 --> 00:09:45

very beautifully knows that even our

00:09:45 --> 00:09:49

life is a representation of the sacred. So

00:09:49 --> 00:09:50

within ourselves,

00:09:53 --> 00:09:55

look into yourself. There are signs for you.

00:09:56 --> 00:09:58

There are signs that direct you to something

00:09:58 --> 00:09:59

so first is the respect

00:10:00 --> 00:10:03

and an appreciation we have that Allah.

00:10:12 --> 00:10:14

You are not around and now you're here.

00:10:14 --> 00:10:16

That's an incredible thing.

00:10:17 --> 00:10:21

If anyone doubts how blessed they are to

00:10:21 --> 00:10:21

be alive.

00:10:23 --> 00:10:24

Ask themselves how they feel now that they

00:10:24 --> 00:10:26

can't even go to the local grocery store

00:10:26 --> 00:10:27

anymore

00:10:27 --> 00:10:29

or that you have to navigate

00:10:30 --> 00:10:32

prior to March things that we never navigated

00:10:32 --> 00:10:34

before in our lives and we feel bad

00:10:34 --> 00:10:37

about what about existence as a whole, not

00:10:37 --> 00:10:39

just going into the grocery store or sitting

00:10:39 --> 00:10:41

with friends or going to your favorite restaurant.

00:10:43 --> 00:10:45

So when you talk about the sacred number

00:10:45 --> 00:10:47

1 is we believe that the sacred

00:10:48 --> 00:10:49

are those things which the Quran

00:10:50 --> 00:10:51

and Hadith of.

00:10:53 --> 00:10:55

And the actions of the early community

00:10:56 --> 00:10:59

represent as things which are non negotiables

00:11:01 --> 00:11:03

and things that represent

00:11:04 --> 00:11:05

the faith of Islam

00:11:06 --> 00:11:09

and the existence of Allah Subhanahu WA Ta'ala.

00:11:11 --> 00:11:12

That's why Allah

00:11:14 --> 00:11:17

he implores us to think critically and and

00:11:17 --> 00:11:19

and constructively when he says.

00:11:22 --> 00:11:25

Is translated as all things except God, which

00:11:25 --> 00:11:26

is a correct translation,

00:11:27 --> 00:11:27

but

00:11:28 --> 00:11:30

is from Adam and Adam is a flag.

00:11:31 --> 00:11:32

Signs

00:11:32 --> 00:11:34

because everything around us

00:11:36 --> 00:11:37

depending on how we

00:11:38 --> 00:11:40

see it and what the Sharia tells us

00:11:40 --> 00:11:41

about it

00:11:42 --> 00:11:43

is an opportunity

00:11:44 --> 00:11:45

to reflect on the sacred

00:11:46 --> 00:11:48

because everything is a sign, if you will,

00:11:48 --> 00:11:51

is a flag that Allah exists.

00:11:52 --> 00:11:55

Allah exists. So just like Adamul Jaysh

00:11:55 --> 00:11:57

is the flag of the army, the trees,

00:11:57 --> 00:12:00

the birds, the sun, the moon, the stars,

00:12:00 --> 00:12:01

your neighbor,

00:12:02 --> 00:12:03

the things around you.

00:12:06 --> 00:12:08

We say that every one of them is

00:12:08 --> 00:12:10

a sign on the existence of Allah. So

00:12:10 --> 00:12:13

that's why in general we see now why

00:12:14 --> 00:12:14

Husnu Khulok,

00:12:15 --> 00:12:18

good character is so important because good character

00:12:18 --> 00:12:19

is a translation

00:12:20 --> 00:12:23

that someone has digested, understood, and appreciates

00:12:24 --> 00:12:26

the potential sacredness of things around us.

00:12:28 --> 00:12:31

Specifically, the Quran identifies in 3 words things

00:12:31 --> 00:12:33

that we should be careful of.

00:12:33 --> 00:12:36

And this is concerning because we see now

00:12:36 --> 00:12:38

in the Muslim community that sometimes things which

00:12:38 --> 00:12:39

are sacred

00:12:40 --> 00:12:41

become the blunt,

00:12:42 --> 00:12:43

the brunt of memes,

00:12:44 --> 00:12:46

the brunt of jokes.

00:12:47 --> 00:12:49

And this is actually one of the the

00:12:49 --> 00:12:51

tools of the of of the colonizers

00:12:52 --> 00:12:54

when they came into the Muslim world, especially

00:12:54 --> 00:12:56

those of you familiar with, like, the history

00:12:56 --> 00:12:58

of film in the Muslim world.

00:12:58 --> 00:13:00

Who was it that in the early iterations

00:13:01 --> 00:13:02

in the black and white movies in the

00:13:02 --> 00:13:06

Muslim world was always portrayed as the bumbling

00:13:07 --> 00:13:07

idiot?

00:13:08 --> 00:13:09

The fool

00:13:09 --> 00:13:10

was the sheikh,

00:13:11 --> 00:13:12

was the imam.

00:13:14 --> 00:13:16

And this was purposely done

00:13:18 --> 00:13:20

to furnish in the minds of Muslims

00:13:21 --> 00:13:22

that their sheikhs,

00:13:23 --> 00:13:24

their imams,

00:13:24 --> 00:13:27

and their religious teachers were fools.

00:13:29 --> 00:13:31

And that it is a waste of time

00:13:32 --> 00:13:35

to seriously consider religious education.

00:13:36 --> 00:13:38

What you should do is think about get

00:13:38 --> 00:13:39

rich or die trying,

00:13:40 --> 00:13:42

and we see the outcome.

00:13:43 --> 00:13:46

We see that largely successful religious institutions

00:13:47 --> 00:13:50

are funded by dictatorships and governments,

00:13:51 --> 00:13:54

which make the ability for that of that

00:13:54 --> 00:13:56

religious institution to be truly free

00:13:57 --> 00:13:57

and autonomous

00:13:58 --> 00:13:59

suspect.

00:14:00 --> 00:14:02

But if we look at the public funded

00:14:02 --> 00:14:03

religious institutions,

00:14:04 --> 00:14:05

they are anemic.

00:14:06 --> 00:14:08

And then Muslims are angry. I don't understand

00:14:08 --> 00:14:10

why I can't find an imam who understands

00:14:10 --> 00:14:12

my life. I can't understand why I can't

00:14:12 --> 00:14:13

find a sheikha,

00:14:13 --> 00:14:15

a woman teacher. If you're if you're really

00:14:15 --> 00:14:17

upset about not finding a sheikha,

00:14:18 --> 00:14:21

how many women have you funded to study

00:14:21 --> 00:14:21

religion?

00:14:23 --> 00:14:25

How many sisters I met

00:14:26 --> 00:14:28

who studied on their own finances, SubhanAllah,

00:14:29 --> 00:14:31

who put in their own work.

00:14:32 --> 00:14:35

So empty empty, you know,

00:14:36 --> 00:14:37

calls

00:14:37 --> 00:14:40

are not gonna change things when I run

00:14:40 --> 00:14:41

into converts. You know, we wish we had

00:14:41 --> 00:14:43

more convert email. How many convert brothers have

00:14:43 --> 00:14:46

you and sisters have you sponsored and created

00:14:46 --> 00:14:48

funding for so that they can be independent

00:14:49 --> 00:14:51

and educated and come back and serve you?

00:14:53 --> 00:14:54

So the secret

00:14:56 --> 00:14:58

the first word we find in the Quran

00:14:58 --> 00:15:00

is aya. Allah says

00:15:00 --> 00:15:01

in

00:15:01 --> 00:15:02

verse 231.

00:15:02 --> 00:15:03

What a taktakhidu

00:15:04 --> 00:15:04

Ayatilahi

00:15:05 --> 00:15:06

huzua

00:15:06 --> 00:15:09

do not take the ayat of Allah as

00:15:09 --> 00:15:12

jokes, and this actually this verse is sent

00:15:12 --> 00:15:13

within

00:15:13 --> 00:15:16

the context of divorce and marriage.

00:15:18 --> 00:15:19

Right? The ayat of

00:15:22 --> 00:15:22

the Ayat of Talaq and Surat of Baqarah.

00:15:22 --> 00:15:24

Sayna imam al Tawari he says Ayatullah

00:15:26 --> 00:15:29

are those commands and prohibitions of Allah and

00:15:29 --> 00:15:30

now it's very common

00:15:31 --> 00:15:34

to see Muslims inadvertently saying haram police. This

00:15:34 --> 00:15:36

is haram and joking

00:15:42 --> 00:15:44

about it. Nobody should joke about the haram.

00:15:46 --> 00:15:47

Nobody should joke about the obligations.

00:15:48 --> 00:15:49

Salah,

00:15:49 --> 00:15:50

Hajj,

00:15:52 --> 00:15:55

avoiding evil should not be made the blunt

00:15:58 --> 00:15:59

of jokes.

00:16:06 --> 00:16:08

Who has done this

00:16:08 --> 00:16:09

has soiled

00:16:10 --> 00:16:11

and wrong their soul.

00:16:12 --> 00:16:14

So in an age now, and I know

00:16:14 --> 00:16:16

it's even in the academy to believe in

00:16:16 --> 00:16:17

God,

00:16:17 --> 00:16:20

by some people, you're it's considered a psychosis.

00:16:21 --> 00:16:22

To affirm faith

00:16:23 --> 00:16:26

in God is considered a psychosis by some

00:16:26 --> 00:16:27

people.

00:16:29 --> 00:16:32

Let alone the commands of Allah

00:16:33 --> 00:16:35

in the prohibitions of Allah. And this was

00:16:35 --> 00:16:37

the way of the religions who preceded us,

00:16:37 --> 00:16:39

and we can see that now

00:16:39 --> 00:16:41

in in those religious communities where

00:16:42 --> 00:16:44

everything is the blunt of a joke

00:16:45 --> 00:16:46

or the object of domestication.

00:16:48 --> 00:16:48

The,

00:16:50 --> 00:16:51

the angels.

00:16:52 --> 00:16:53

When they said

00:16:53 --> 00:16:55

they they did not ask out of a

00:16:55 --> 00:16:57

question. This is a mistake people

00:16:57 --> 00:17:00

misinterpret this verse, but in Arabic, they didn't

00:17:00 --> 00:17:00

say

00:17:02 --> 00:17:02

They said,

00:17:04 --> 00:17:06

means hamzatuh tahreen.

00:17:07 --> 00:17:08

It doesn't mean hamzatuhistifham.

00:17:09 --> 00:17:11

Doesn't mean, like, are you gonna make something

00:17:11 --> 00:17:12

in the earth? It means,

00:17:13 --> 00:17:16

you're gonna do this? That's the the meaning

00:17:16 --> 00:17:16

in Arabic.

00:17:21 --> 00:17:22

You're gonna create,

00:17:23 --> 00:17:26

subhanallah, this incredible creation that's gonna do these

00:17:26 --> 00:17:26

things.

00:17:33 --> 00:17:34

But we glorify

00:17:35 --> 00:17:36

you and

00:17:36 --> 00:17:37

we

00:17:37 --> 00:17:39

recognize your sacredness.

00:17:40 --> 00:17:42

This is the quality of the Malaika.

00:17:43 --> 00:17:45

The second word we find in the

00:17:49 --> 00:17:49

Quran is

00:18:02 --> 00:18:04

from the same word as hair, right? Because

00:18:04 --> 00:18:05

hair is a sign

00:18:06 --> 00:18:06

of you,

00:18:07 --> 00:18:10

a sign of something that exists. The shaair

00:18:10 --> 00:18:11

of religion

00:18:11 --> 00:18:15

are those symbols in things that indicate the

00:18:15 --> 00:18:15

sacred.

00:18:17 --> 00:18:18

That's why the

00:18:18 --> 00:18:21

is a poet because the poet can indicate

00:18:21 --> 00:18:23

things to her words and through his expressions,

00:18:24 --> 00:18:26

thoughts that you and I never thought about

00:18:26 --> 00:18:26

before.

00:18:28 --> 00:18:28

Your hair,

00:18:29 --> 00:18:31

it it it is a sign of you.

00:18:31 --> 00:18:33

The shaair of Islam,

00:18:34 --> 00:18:34

a mash.

00:18:35 --> 00:18:35

Uhura

00:18:36 --> 00:18:36

of Islam

00:18:37 --> 00:18:39

are any of the sacred symbols

00:18:40 --> 00:18:42

that represent our deen.

00:18:43 --> 00:18:46

And this touches on acts of worship, places,

00:18:46 --> 00:18:47

times,

00:18:47 --> 00:18:49

people, and ideas.

00:18:49 --> 00:18:51

And recently, I've noticed,

00:18:51 --> 00:18:53

and this is this is unbelievable,

00:18:54 --> 00:18:56

people making fun of compassion.

00:18:57 --> 00:18:59

I I saw a post where someone

00:18:59 --> 00:19:01

who, as far as I know, this person

00:19:01 --> 00:19:04

can't even even read the Quran properly.

00:19:05 --> 00:19:06

Was saying compassionate

00:19:07 --> 00:19:09

imams and attacking someone like Omar Suleiman. Masha

00:19:09 --> 00:19:11

Allah, we know Yaqeen and Omar

00:19:12 --> 00:19:13

Suleiman. All of the the of

00:19:14 --> 00:19:14

America

00:19:15 --> 00:19:17

can witness to the beauty of Sheikh Omar's

00:19:17 --> 00:19:18

personality,

00:19:19 --> 00:19:22

the sincerity that Allah knows is in his

00:19:22 --> 00:19:24

heart that we see through his actions

00:19:24 --> 00:19:26

and listen people will all of us will

00:19:26 --> 00:19:26

make mistakes,

00:19:28 --> 00:19:29

but we don't need to destroy each other

00:19:29 --> 00:19:31

when we make mistakes. We need to to

00:19:31 --> 00:19:33

put a band aid on it and help

00:19:33 --> 00:19:33

each other.

00:19:35 --> 00:19:36

But ridiculing

00:19:36 --> 00:19:39

him and saying he he's quote, unquote, a

00:19:39 --> 00:19:41

compassionate imam, and turning compassion

00:19:41 --> 00:19:44

into a joke, like, it's not just that

00:19:44 --> 00:19:44

the conservative

00:19:45 --> 00:19:47

components should not be turned into jokes,

00:19:48 --> 00:19:50

but also the balance that we talked about

00:19:50 --> 00:19:53

earlier. The sacred allows us to be balanced

00:19:53 --> 00:19:55

between fear and hope, hope and fear.

00:19:58 --> 00:19:59

The prophet Sallallahu,

00:20:00 --> 00:20:01

he said.

00:20:03 --> 00:20:03

Came out.

00:20:04 --> 00:20:05

We send it in.

00:20:06 --> 00:20:06

And

00:20:07 --> 00:20:10

then. The prophet said. I am the merciful

00:20:10 --> 00:20:10

prophet.

00:20:11 --> 00:20:12

I am the compassionate prophet

00:20:13 --> 00:20:16

in the hadith by Sayna ima Tabari Tabari,

00:20:17 --> 00:20:18

he said

00:20:29 --> 00:20:30

When

00:20:31 --> 00:20:33

I saw people attacking Omar Soleiman

00:20:34 --> 00:20:35

for being compassionate

00:20:36 --> 00:20:38

or attacking Yaqeen for being

00:20:39 --> 00:20:41

compassionate. Compassion is one of the shire of

00:20:41 --> 00:20:42

Islam.

00:20:42 --> 00:20:44

Compassion is one of the qualities of Sayedal

00:20:44 --> 00:20:45

Anam

00:20:46 --> 00:20:47

who said,

00:20:47 --> 00:20:50

I am the merciful prophet.

00:20:50 --> 00:20:51

So to attack

00:20:51 --> 00:20:52

religious compassion,

00:20:53 --> 00:20:54

to attack

00:21:05 --> 00:21:06

What's the

00:21:06 --> 00:21:07

of

00:21:07 --> 00:21:08

this?

00:21:14 --> 00:21:16

That whoever doesn't honor the symbols of Allah,

00:21:16 --> 00:21:18

this is a sign of their hypocrisy.

00:21:20 --> 00:21:22

And mercy is so important that Allah who

00:21:22 --> 00:21:24

subhanahu wa ta'ala described the prophet

00:21:30 --> 00:21:31

We did not send you except you are

00:21:31 --> 00:21:32

a mercy.

00:21:32 --> 00:21:36

Imam Ibn Ashur, the great Tunisian scholar he

00:21:36 --> 00:21:38

said, Allah did not describe the prophets mercy

00:21:38 --> 00:21:39

with a verb.

00:21:40 --> 00:21:41

He described it with a noun because in

00:21:41 --> 00:21:44

Arabic the use of a verb could restrict

00:21:44 --> 00:21:45

the meaning.

00:21:45 --> 00:21:47

But with a noun, it implies that the

00:21:47 --> 00:21:50

prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam is compassionate

00:21:50 --> 00:21:53

and merciful in his actions, in his statements,

00:21:53 --> 00:21:55

in the things he does.

00:21:56 --> 00:21:58

Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam.

00:21:58 --> 00:21:59

Even in his rebuke

00:22:00 --> 00:22:01

and his

00:22:01 --> 00:22:05

disciplining of people, there is Rahma Sallallahu Alaihi

00:22:05 --> 00:22:06

Wasallam.

00:22:07 --> 00:22:07

The last

00:22:08 --> 00:22:10

area of the sacred that we find in

00:22:10 --> 00:22:12

the Quran is in the 57th verse

00:22:13 --> 00:22:15

of the 5th chapter. So we talked about

00:22:15 --> 00:22:16

verse 231

00:22:16 --> 00:22:18

from Surat Al Baqarah.

00:22:18 --> 00:22:21

We talked about I believe if I'm correct

00:22:21 --> 00:22:23

verse 31 is Surat Al Hajj,

00:22:23 --> 00:22:24

and then we talked

00:22:25 --> 00:22:27

about this verse verse 57 in Surat Al

00:22:27 --> 00:22:29

Maidah. Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala says,

00:22:39 --> 00:22:41

all you believers do not take

00:22:42 --> 00:22:43

your deen

00:22:43 --> 00:22:45

from those who came before you

00:22:46 --> 00:22:49

Right? Those religious communities that came before

00:22:49 --> 00:22:51

you, who took their Din

00:22:51 --> 00:22:53

as a joke

00:22:53 --> 00:22:55

and as amusement.

00:22:56 --> 00:22:58

We have a very important principle in that

00:22:59 --> 00:23:00

says when Allah

00:23:01 --> 00:23:02

forbid something

00:23:02 --> 00:23:04

that may lead to something else which is

00:23:04 --> 00:23:05

forbidden,

00:23:05 --> 00:23:07

it is to show that the thing which

00:23:07 --> 00:23:08

is forbidden

00:23:09 --> 00:23:10

is extremely important.

00:23:11 --> 00:23:14

So important, don't come close to it.

00:23:15 --> 00:23:17

Don't come to close to anything that leads

00:23:17 --> 00:23:18

to it.

00:23:19 --> 00:23:21

So if Allah Subhanahu WA Ta'ala is forbidding

00:23:21 --> 00:23:23

us to be around and to take forbidding

00:23:23 --> 00:23:25

us to be around and take our deen

00:23:26 --> 00:23:28

from those who take their deen as a

00:23:28 --> 00:23:30

joke and amusement, then what about us taking

00:23:30 --> 00:23:32

our deen as a joke and an amusement?

00:23:33 --> 00:23:35

How can we amplify the sacred in our

00:23:35 --> 00:23:37

life inshallah and then we'll finish because we

00:23:37 --> 00:23:38

said

00:23:38 --> 00:23:42

recognizing the sacred actually is a liberating force.

00:23:42 --> 00:23:44

The trick of the dunya is that it

00:23:44 --> 00:23:44

tells

00:23:45 --> 00:23:47

you be free of any type of religious

00:23:47 --> 00:23:48

entanglements.

00:23:48 --> 00:23:50

Be free of any type of religious,

00:23:52 --> 00:23:53

discipline.

00:23:53 --> 00:23:56

Then you can truly truly be free. But

00:23:56 --> 00:23:58

no, you're not. You and I will become

00:23:58 --> 00:23:59

the slave of the dunya.

00:24:00 --> 00:24:03

But it is through recognition of the sacred

00:24:03 --> 00:24:05

that we are able to see beyond

00:24:06 --> 00:24:08

the trivialities of this world

00:24:08 --> 00:24:10

and not get caught up

00:24:10 --> 00:24:11

in little sideshows

00:24:12 --> 00:24:15

as we progress to Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.

00:24:16 --> 00:24:18

So how can we do that? Number 1

00:24:18 --> 00:24:20

is we need to have an intimate relationship

00:24:20 --> 00:24:22

with the Quran, an individual relationship with the

00:24:22 --> 00:24:22

Quran

00:24:23 --> 00:24:25

and allow the Quran to speak to us.

00:24:28 --> 00:24:30

Because the Quran guides us to what's upright.

00:24:31 --> 00:24:33

Number 2, we need to appreciate

00:24:33 --> 00:24:37

what the broader community recognizes as sacred like

00:24:37 --> 00:24:37

salah,

00:24:37 --> 00:24:38

like fasting,

00:24:39 --> 00:24:40

like being good to family,

00:24:40 --> 00:24:41

like being honest,

00:24:42 --> 00:24:43

like being sincere,

00:24:43 --> 00:24:46

being good fathers and mothers, being people who

00:24:46 --> 00:24:48

are upon the way of the prophet sallallahu

00:24:48 --> 00:24:50

alaihi wasallam. We need to hold.

00:24:52 --> 00:24:55

The hadith says, my community that doesn't concur

00:24:55 --> 00:24:55

on misguidance.

00:24:57 --> 00:24:58

Number 3

00:24:58 --> 00:25:00

is respecting acts of worship

00:25:02 --> 00:25:05

and and treating them as such. Look at

00:25:05 --> 00:25:06

salah in the Quran. Allah

00:25:07 --> 00:25:10

mentions the neglect of salah in 3 areas.

00:25:10 --> 00:25:11

Number 1,

00:25:11 --> 00:25:12

those people

00:25:16 --> 00:25:18

Those people who do not allow worldly pursuits,

00:25:19 --> 00:25:22

buying and selling to keep them from salah.

00:25:23 --> 00:25:25

Then insort of Manafiqeen,

00:25:26 --> 00:25:27

those Allah

00:25:27 --> 00:25:27

says,

00:25:34 --> 00:25:35

Right? Don't allow your family

00:25:36 --> 00:25:37

and don't allow

00:25:38 --> 00:25:40

your pursuits in life to keep you from

00:25:40 --> 00:25:40

salah.

00:25:41 --> 00:25:44

So within the Quran, three things are mentioned.

00:25:44 --> 00:25:45

Relationships,

00:25:46 --> 00:25:46

business,

00:25:46 --> 00:25:47

and leisure.

00:25:48 --> 00:25:50

None should keep us from salah because that's

00:25:50 --> 00:25:53

how important it is. I should see salah

00:25:53 --> 00:25:55

as a sacred

00:25:55 --> 00:25:55

exercise.

00:25:56 --> 00:25:58

I should be more passionate about salah

00:25:59 --> 00:26:00

than any anything else.

00:26:03 --> 00:26:05

And other acts of worship.

00:26:06 --> 00:26:09

The 4th is maintaining good relationships with people

00:26:10 --> 00:26:10

because

00:26:11 --> 00:26:12

each and every one of us is a

00:26:12 --> 00:26:12

reminder.

00:26:15 --> 00:26:16

Oh, children of Adam.

00:26:17 --> 00:26:19

That we remember our origin.

00:26:19 --> 00:26:22

We remember especially as we move into the

00:26:22 --> 00:26:22

election

00:26:31 --> 00:26:32

him and different with someone.

00:26:33 --> 00:26:35

But you don't need to demean somebody or

00:26:35 --> 00:26:36

to shame them

00:26:36 --> 00:26:38

or to use evil words.

00:26:41 --> 00:26:43

Tell my servants to speak the best

00:26:44 --> 00:26:45

thing.

00:26:47 --> 00:26:49

Don't argue with the Jews and Christians except

00:26:49 --> 00:26:50

in the way that's best. If that's the

00:26:50 --> 00:26:51

case with Jews and Christians,

00:26:52 --> 00:26:54

I say to the people who attacked Omar

00:26:54 --> 00:26:56

Suleiman, then what about Imam Omar Suleiman?

00:26:59 --> 00:27:00

So ask Allah

00:27:02 --> 00:27:05

to allow us, inshallah, to appreciate, to say

00:27:05 --> 00:27:05

great.

00:27:06 --> 00:27:08

And we ask Allah to allow us to

00:27:08 --> 00:27:10

be balanced and to center ourselves in very,

00:27:10 --> 00:27:12

very challenging times.

00:27:12 --> 00:27:13

I ask

00:27:14 --> 00:27:16

Allah to bless all of our sick brothers

00:27:16 --> 00:27:17

and sisters who may be struggling

00:27:18 --> 00:27:20

with COVID 19 or have family members who

00:27:20 --> 00:27:22

are impacted by COVID 19.

00:27:23 --> 00:27:24

May Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala make it a

00:27:24 --> 00:27:25

means of your shifa

00:27:26 --> 00:27:27

and your shifa.

00:27:27 --> 00:27:29

And I ask Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala to

00:27:29 --> 00:27:31

accept those who have passed away that we

00:27:31 --> 00:27:34

know and love from COVID 19 as shuhada,

00:27:35 --> 00:27:38

as martyrs, as his witness is mentioned in

00:27:38 --> 00:27:39

numerous hadith.

00:27:40 --> 00:27:41

Ask Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala to bless the

00:27:41 --> 00:27:43

people in California and to help them as

00:27:43 --> 00:27:45

they struggle. I lived in California for 10

00:27:45 --> 00:27:46

years. SubhanAllah

00:27:47 --> 00:27:49

to help them as they go through this

00:27:49 --> 00:27:51

very difficult time in Oregon also.

00:27:51 --> 00:27:53

We ask Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala to help

00:27:53 --> 00:27:55

us as a community bring balance and healing

00:27:55 --> 00:27:56

to a nation

00:27:57 --> 00:27:59

which is really hemorrhaging in many ways

00:27:59 --> 00:28:01

and and and and this hemorrhage

00:28:02 --> 00:28:03

is something that people need to pay attention

00:28:03 --> 00:28:04

to.

00:28:05 --> 00:28:06

Ask Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala to bless our

00:28:06 --> 00:28:08

brothers and sisters in Yemen,

00:28:09 --> 00:28:10

our brothers and sisters,

00:28:11 --> 00:28:13

who we have, you know, unfortunately in Muslim

00:28:13 --> 00:28:15

in the Muslim world,

00:28:15 --> 00:28:17

we're seeing images now of

00:28:17 --> 00:28:18

migrants

00:28:18 --> 00:28:19

from Africa,

00:28:19 --> 00:28:22

from parts of Asia who are being held

00:28:22 --> 00:28:24

in COVID camps and who are dying of

00:28:24 --> 00:28:25

COVID nineteen

00:28:25 --> 00:28:28

in Muslim countries, even in Saudi Arabia.

00:28:29 --> 00:28:29

SubhanAllah.

00:28:30 --> 00:28:32

If you have the Kaaba and and you

00:28:32 --> 00:28:33

have

00:28:33 --> 00:28:34

Haram Madani,

00:28:35 --> 00:28:36

but that is not allowing

00:28:36 --> 00:28:40

translate that to respect and honor others. Our

00:28:40 --> 00:28:42

prophet is the prophet sent to all humanity.

00:28:43 --> 00:28:43

Then

00:28:44 --> 00:28:47

we have to question the impact those places

00:28:47 --> 00:28:48

are having in our heart.

00:28:48 --> 00:28:50

We ask Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala to bless

00:28:50 --> 00:28:52

our brothers and sisters in Senegal,

00:28:52 --> 00:28:54

in the Gambia, in Mauritania,

00:28:55 --> 00:28:57

in Chad, in Zaire, in Africa.

00:28:57 --> 00:28:59

We pray for our brothers and sisters in

00:28:59 --> 00:29:02

Turkey, in Iraq, in Iran, in Syria, in

00:29:02 --> 00:29:02

Afghanistan,

00:29:03 --> 00:29:05

in India, and Kashmir, Pakistan,

00:29:06 --> 00:29:06

Bosnia,

00:29:07 --> 00:29:07

in Russia,

00:29:08 --> 00:29:10

wherever the Muslims are, we ask Allah in

00:29:10 --> 00:29:12

Canada and in

00:29:12 --> 00:29:14

the UK and Europe to bless them inshallah

00:29:14 --> 00:29:17

and make us a balanced community that's not

00:29:17 --> 00:29:19

going to get so caught up that it

00:29:19 --> 00:29:23

compromises its ability to heal a fractured world

00:29:24 --> 00:29:26

and to mend what has been broken the

00:29:26 --> 00:29:26

hands

00:29:27 --> 00:29:27

of

00:29:28 --> 00:29:29

men.
