respected Ulema,

00:00:31 --> 00:00:32

Khufath,

mothers, fathers, brothers and sisters,

00:00:35 --> 00:00:37

I greet you with a universal greeting of

00:00:37 --> 00:00:37

peace.

00:00:43 --> 00:00:45

On behalf of islamia college majidu4khan

00:00:45 --> 00:00:48

and the extended family, we'd like to wish

00:00:48 --> 00:00:49

each and everyone.

00:00:50 --> 00:00:51

May Allah

00:00:52 --> 00:00:54

grant us all a blessed week ahead Insha'Allah.

00:00:56 --> 00:00:58

Today it serves me great pleasure to stand

00:00:58 --> 00:01:00

here and introduce our honorable guest speaker for

00:01:00 --> 00:01:03

today who is the CEO of Islamic College

00:01:03 --> 00:01:06

and whom I'm sure needs no further introduction.

00:01:06 --> 00:01:08

So without further ado, I present to you

00:01:08 --> 00:01:10

Sheikh Sadullah Khan.

00:01:52 --> 00:01:53

In

00:01:56 --> 00:01:58

the name of Allah, most gracious, most merciful,

00:01:59 --> 00:02:01

all praise is due to our creator, our

00:02:01 --> 00:02:02

cherisher,

00:02:02 --> 00:02:04

our nourisher, and our sustainer.

00:02:05 --> 00:02:07

We bear witness that none worthy of worship

00:02:07 --> 00:02:08

but Allah.

00:02:08 --> 00:02:10

We bear witness, we believe in all the

00:02:10 --> 00:02:11

prophets who came throughout history,

00:02:12 --> 00:02:14

and we bear witness that prophet Muhammad ibn

00:02:14 --> 00:02:15

Abdullah

00:02:16 --> 00:02:17

Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi

00:02:18 --> 00:02:19

Wa Salaam

00:02:19 --> 00:02:21

is the final of all the MS studies

00:02:21 --> 00:02:22

of

00:02:22 --> 00:02:23

blessedullah

00:02:23 --> 00:02:24

and huffal,

00:02:25 --> 00:02:28

educators and learners, elders, brothers and sisters,

00:02:28 --> 00:02:30

blessed mothers and youth,

00:02:30 --> 00:02:33

I greet you with a Islamic universal greeting

00:02:33 --> 00:02:33

of peace.

00:02:34 --> 00:02:36

May the peace, the mercy, and the blessings

00:02:36 --> 00:02:36

of Allah

00:02:37 --> 00:02:40

be upon each and everyone present here at

00:02:40 --> 00:02:42

this auspicious hour of Jum'ah.

00:02:48 --> 00:02:51

Another year has started in our lives

00:02:51 --> 00:02:53

according to the Islamic lunar calendar

00:02:54 --> 00:02:56

as we are now in the 1st days

00:02:57 --> 00:02:58

of the month of Muharram,

00:02:59 --> 00:03:02

just as we are in the 1st days

00:03:02 --> 00:03:04

of the new academic term,

00:03:06 --> 00:03:08

term for the schools as well as colleges.

00:03:09 --> 00:03:12

And we realize that time revolves,

00:03:13 --> 00:03:13

morning,

00:03:14 --> 00:03:14

evening,

00:03:15 --> 00:03:18

days and nights as Allah says in Surah

00:03:18 --> 00:03:19

Yunus

00:03:35 --> 00:03:37

It's Allah who has made the sun

00:03:38 --> 00:03:39

a shining bright

00:03:40 --> 00:03:42

star and the moon reflecting lights

00:03:43 --> 00:03:45

and ordain for these phases

00:03:45 --> 00:03:48

that you might know the computation of years

00:03:48 --> 00:03:49

and the reckoning of time.

00:03:50 --> 00:03:53

Allah created all of this as a manifestation

00:03:53 --> 00:03:54

of reality.

00:03:55 --> 00:03:57

He makes signs manifest and apparent

00:03:58 --> 00:03:59

for people

00:03:59 --> 00:04:01

who have knowledge and understanding.

00:04:02 --> 00:04:04

We know that time is cyclical.

00:04:05 --> 00:04:06

Morning,

00:04:06 --> 00:04:07

evening,

00:04:07 --> 00:04:08

then morning again.

00:04:10 --> 00:04:11

Day, night,

00:04:11 --> 00:04:12

then morning again,

00:04:13 --> 00:04:15

another day. Term starts,

00:04:15 --> 00:04:16

term ends,

00:04:17 --> 00:04:18

another term resumes.

00:04:19 --> 00:04:21

Seasons come and seasons go,

00:04:22 --> 00:04:22

then

00:04:23 --> 00:04:24

another season resumes

00:04:25 --> 00:04:26

year in

00:04:26 --> 00:04:27

year out,

00:04:27 --> 00:04:28

then

00:04:29 --> 00:04:30

another year begins.

00:04:31 --> 00:04:32

So time does revolve,

00:04:34 --> 00:04:34

but

00:04:35 --> 00:04:37

do we evolve ourselves

00:04:37 --> 00:04:40

to a betterment in the process as time

00:04:40 --> 00:04:41

goes by?

00:04:43 --> 00:04:44

And as we know in the Quran,

00:04:45 --> 00:04:46

the Surah that the prophet

00:04:48 --> 00:04:50

used to recite and the Sahaba

00:04:50 --> 00:04:53

used to recite among themselves upon the ending

00:04:53 --> 00:04:53

of their meeting.

00:05:02 --> 00:05:04

By the token of time, by the passage

00:05:04 --> 00:05:07

of time, human beings are increasingly in a

00:05:07 --> 00:05:10

state of loss except those who truly have

00:05:10 --> 00:05:13

faith and those who manifest that faith in

00:05:13 --> 00:05:15

good, positive, and beneficial action.

00:05:15 --> 00:05:17

Those who themselves

00:05:17 --> 00:05:20

stand by the truth and facilitate the promotion

00:05:20 --> 00:05:23

and the manifestation of truth and those who

00:05:23 --> 00:05:27

themselves are patient and facilitate patience for others.

00:05:28 --> 00:05:29

So time revolves

00:05:29 --> 00:05:32

but do we evolve to a betterment in

00:05:32 --> 00:05:32

the process?

00:05:33 --> 00:05:34

By these beginnings

00:05:34 --> 00:05:35

and these endings,

00:05:36 --> 00:05:37

we reflect

00:05:37 --> 00:05:39

and we are supposed to learn the lessons

00:05:40 --> 00:05:41

from the marching of time

00:05:42 --> 00:05:42

because

00:05:43 --> 00:05:45

a time will come in our existence

00:05:46 --> 00:05:49

when the seasons and the years may come

00:05:49 --> 00:05:49

and go,

00:05:50 --> 00:05:53

but before the next season or the next

00:05:53 --> 00:05:55

year comes, we may be gone

00:05:55 --> 00:05:56

and we do not know

00:05:57 --> 00:05:59

what time that will be.

00:06:00 --> 00:06:02

Allah reminds us about this,

00:06:03 --> 00:06:04

about our development from the womb

00:06:05 --> 00:06:06

eventually to our old age.

00:06:25 --> 00:06:27

We appoint a certain time for you

00:06:28 --> 00:06:30

for being in the womb of your mother,

00:06:30 --> 00:06:32

and then we bring you forth from the

00:06:32 --> 00:06:34

womb in the shape of an infant

00:06:34 --> 00:06:36

so that you may live,

00:06:36 --> 00:06:38

develop, and grow into maturity.

00:06:39 --> 00:06:41

Some people die in the process,

00:06:42 --> 00:06:44

even before birth, during birth, or in the

00:06:44 --> 00:06:46

youth, or as they grow up.

00:06:47 --> 00:06:48

Others reach old age,

00:06:49 --> 00:06:51

and eventually in their old age, they may

00:06:51 --> 00:06:53

once again become weakened,

00:06:53 --> 00:06:54

impotent,

00:06:54 --> 00:06:57

even to the extent of losing some of

00:06:57 --> 00:06:57

the faculties

00:06:58 --> 00:07:00

of hearing, of sight, of memory, and of

00:07:00 --> 00:07:01

understanding.

00:07:02 --> 00:07:03

So as we enter

00:07:04 --> 00:07:04

1445

00:07:05 --> 00:07:06

of the Muslim

00:07:06 --> 00:07:07

new year,

00:07:07 --> 00:07:10

we say farewell to the previous year.

00:07:10 --> 00:07:13

And between the farewell of last year and

00:07:13 --> 00:07:16

the welcoming of the new year, there's much

00:07:16 --> 00:07:18

for us to reflect upon.

00:07:18 --> 00:07:20

Whether we are parents,

00:07:20 --> 00:07:21

whether we are educators,

00:07:22 --> 00:07:23

whether we are students,

00:07:24 --> 00:07:27

each passing day is a day gone forever,

00:07:28 --> 00:07:29

and each coming day

00:07:29 --> 00:07:32

is a potential hope for attaining

00:07:33 --> 00:07:34

our life aspirations.

00:07:34 --> 00:07:36

The poet says in,

00:07:41 --> 00:07:42

He

00:07:42 --> 00:07:44

said, morning comes and then comes the evening,

00:07:45 --> 00:07:47

and through the cycle of morning evenings,

00:07:48 --> 00:07:50

our lives eventually becomes depleted.

00:07:50 --> 00:07:52

Our lives go by.

00:07:53 --> 00:07:55

Too often we miss the opportunities

00:07:56 --> 00:07:58

that time afford us. That's why the Rasul

00:07:58 --> 00:07:59

in Hadith, hadith,

00:08:01 --> 00:08:04

don't abuse time. Allah has condemned the abusing

00:08:04 --> 00:08:05

of time.

00:08:06 --> 00:08:08

Until it's too late.

00:08:08 --> 00:08:08

Sometimes

00:08:09 --> 00:08:12

we miss the opportunities that times afford

00:08:12 --> 00:08:13

us until it's too late.

00:08:14 --> 00:08:15

Someone is

00:08:16 --> 00:08:18

passed on and then we remember how good

00:08:18 --> 00:08:19

they were.

00:08:19 --> 00:08:21

A mother or a father, we never said

00:08:21 --> 00:08:23

thank you and then they pass away, then

00:08:23 --> 00:08:24

we remember what they've done for us.

00:08:25 --> 00:08:26

A teacher

00:08:26 --> 00:08:27

or educator

00:08:27 --> 00:08:28

or a sheikh

00:08:29 --> 00:08:30

may have helped us in life and guided

00:08:30 --> 00:08:33

us, we never bothered to appreciate it.

00:08:34 --> 00:08:35

And upon the deathbed or they're now in

00:08:35 --> 00:08:38

the saccarital mode and now we want to

00:08:38 --> 00:08:40

remember all the great things, but never in

00:08:40 --> 00:08:42

our life we took a chance, the time

00:08:42 --> 00:08:44

to say thank you or to appreciate.

00:08:44 --> 00:08:46

But it applies to many things in our

00:08:46 --> 00:08:46

lives.

00:08:48 --> 00:08:48

You see,

00:08:49 --> 00:08:52

very often we miss the opportunities that time

00:08:52 --> 00:08:52

afford us

00:08:53 --> 00:08:56

until sometimes it's too late and there is

00:08:56 --> 00:08:57

no time left.

00:08:57 --> 00:08:58

It could be in our studies

00:08:59 --> 00:09:01

where we delay what needs to be done

00:09:02 --> 00:09:03

until exams come,

00:09:03 --> 00:09:05

and then it may be too late to

00:09:05 --> 00:09:05

prepare.

00:09:06 --> 00:09:08

For those who are doing matric, for example,

00:09:08 --> 00:09:11

taking it relaxing now is July, August, September,

00:09:11 --> 00:09:14

October, Inshallah, November we write exams.

00:09:14 --> 00:09:15

That is true.

00:09:16 --> 00:09:18

But if you leave our task

00:09:18 --> 00:09:19

or work

00:09:20 --> 00:09:22

or caring for a loved one or showing

00:09:22 --> 00:09:23

affection to a special one

00:09:24 --> 00:09:26

until it's too late, it becomes a problem.

00:09:27 --> 00:09:28

For example, matriculant.

00:09:29 --> 00:09:32

Preparing for your matric exam, when you delay

00:09:32 --> 00:09:34

simple things, it eventually becomes difficult

00:09:35 --> 00:09:36

because time,

00:09:37 --> 00:09:37

time constraints.

00:09:38 --> 00:09:41

And when you delay difficult things, it becomes

00:09:41 --> 00:09:41

impossible.

00:09:42 --> 00:09:44

Not because the task is impossible,

00:09:44 --> 00:09:45

the time is not available.

00:09:46 --> 00:09:47

Studying the night before exam

00:09:48 --> 00:09:51

is a limited time. It's not that the

00:09:51 --> 00:09:53

work is difficult, it's the time is not

00:09:53 --> 00:09:56

left. Many people, they lose out because of

00:09:56 --> 00:09:56

the

00:09:56 --> 00:09:57

unappreciation

00:09:57 --> 00:09:58

or acknowledgment

00:09:58 --> 00:10:01

of the value of the time we have

00:10:01 --> 00:10:01

at our disposal.

00:10:03 --> 00:10:03

So

00:10:04 --> 00:10:05

here we are,

00:10:05 --> 00:10:06

Muslims,

00:10:06 --> 00:10:09

in the 1st month of the Islamic Hijri

00:10:09 --> 00:10:09

calendar,

00:10:10 --> 00:10:13

and of course the Hijri calendar dates back

00:10:13 --> 00:10:15

to the Hijri or the migration of Rasulullah

00:10:16 --> 00:10:19

and many of his family and followers to

00:10:19 --> 00:10:21

Yathrib, which later being became Madina

00:10:22 --> 00:10:22

1445

00:10:23 --> 00:10:24

years ago.

00:10:24 --> 00:10:27

Leaving the old residence of Makkah

00:10:27 --> 00:10:30

for a new domusall in Medina. You see,

00:10:30 --> 00:10:31

moving on in life.

00:10:32 --> 00:10:34

And the new calendar year being ushered in

00:10:34 --> 00:10:36

this week is a good time to analyze

00:10:37 --> 00:10:38

our path of moving

00:10:39 --> 00:10:40

on. To reflect

00:10:40 --> 00:10:42

and make personal resolutions.

00:10:43 --> 00:10:44

Where am I?

00:10:45 --> 00:10:46

Where could I be?

00:10:47 --> 00:10:49

Where should I aim to be?

00:10:50 --> 00:10:52

Where am I in relation to myself,

00:10:52 --> 00:10:54

in relation to my creator,

00:10:54 --> 00:10:57

in relation to my near and dear ones?

00:10:57 --> 00:10:59

Where am I in relation to the world,

00:10:59 --> 00:10:59

to the environment?

00:11:01 --> 00:11:03

So as we prepare to engage the coming

00:11:03 --> 00:11:04

coming

00:11:05 --> 00:11:07

year, the pertinent question for each one of

00:11:07 --> 00:11:07

us

00:11:08 --> 00:11:10

in an uncertain world, in a troubled time

00:11:10 --> 00:11:11

in our history,

00:11:12 --> 00:11:13

how could my today

00:11:14 --> 00:11:16

positively impact on my tomorrows? That's why the

00:11:16 --> 00:11:17

verse we often read.

00:11:22 --> 00:11:25

Be conscious of Allah and carefully consider what

00:11:25 --> 00:11:27

you're sending forth for the future, what you're

00:11:27 --> 00:11:29

sending forth for the model.

00:11:31 --> 00:11:32

And therefore,

00:11:34 --> 00:11:36

we need to realize that though life is

00:11:36 --> 00:11:37

a challenge and a test,

00:11:38 --> 00:11:39

but

00:11:48 --> 00:11:49

Are people not aware

00:11:50 --> 00:11:52

that they are being tested year in year

00:11:52 --> 00:11:53

out?

00:11:54 --> 00:11:54

And yet

00:11:55 --> 00:11:56

they do not repent or turn away from

00:11:56 --> 00:11:57

the errors

00:11:58 --> 00:11:59

nor do they reflect on the lessons

00:12:00 --> 00:12:01

from the past.

00:12:03 --> 00:12:05

So knowing the potential of the human being

00:12:07 --> 00:12:09

as as Allah is deemed as the best

00:12:09 --> 00:12:10

of creation,

00:12:11 --> 00:12:12

the creator commands us,

00:12:15 --> 00:12:16

Every.

00:12:19 --> 00:12:20

Allah commands justice

00:12:21 --> 00:12:22

and Allah commands excellence.

00:12:24 --> 00:12:26

And wise ones have reminded us the quality

00:12:26 --> 00:12:28

of a person's life

00:12:28 --> 00:12:29

is in direct proportion

00:12:30 --> 00:12:31

to his or her commitment

00:12:32 --> 00:12:33

to excellence.

00:12:34 --> 00:12:35

So in an increasingly

00:12:36 --> 00:12:37

competitive world,

00:12:37 --> 00:12:38

constantly

00:12:38 --> 00:12:39

build on the good

00:12:40 --> 00:12:42

and always aim for ihsan

00:12:42 --> 00:12:44

for excellence and goodness.

00:12:45 --> 00:12:45

Aim

00:12:46 --> 00:12:48

constantly build on the good

00:12:48 --> 00:12:51

and always aim for excellence. Whatever it is,

00:12:51 --> 00:12:52

whether in business,

00:12:52 --> 00:12:55

whether in study, whether in sport, whether in

00:12:55 --> 00:12:56

art you are doing, whatever

00:12:57 --> 00:12:59

task you're carrying out, a job you are

00:12:59 --> 00:12:59

doing,

00:13:00 --> 00:13:02

the contract you are signing, in your dealing,

00:13:02 --> 00:13:04

in your relationship with people, in your prayer,

00:13:05 --> 00:13:06

in how you engage the poor or the

00:13:06 --> 00:13:07

needy,

00:13:07 --> 00:13:09

in every one of those.

00:13:11 --> 00:13:13

Allah has prescribed that kind of excellence and

00:13:13 --> 00:13:16

goodness in everything that you do, in everything

00:13:16 --> 00:13:17

you do. It's a mark of a believer.

00:13:19 --> 00:13:20

Goodness and excellence.

00:13:21 --> 00:13:22

Excellence in execution,

00:13:22 --> 00:13:24

goodness in intention,

00:13:24 --> 00:13:26

and in the ability and the way we

00:13:26 --> 00:13:27

handle things.

00:13:28 --> 00:13:28

But remember,

00:13:29 --> 00:13:31

that goodness and excellence in our faith, in

00:13:31 --> 00:13:33

our deeds, in our behavior, in our studies,

00:13:33 --> 00:13:35

in our work, in our profession,

00:13:35 --> 00:13:37

it increases both our utility

00:13:38 --> 00:13:39

and our relevance in this world.

00:13:41 --> 00:13:42

The more you are value,

00:13:43 --> 00:13:44

the more you excel,

00:13:45 --> 00:13:47

the more you reflect goodness. You are more

00:13:47 --> 00:13:49

useful to the world around you

00:13:50 --> 00:13:52

And that decreases your utility but also your

00:13:52 --> 00:13:53

relevance to the world

00:13:55 --> 00:13:57

as well as your worth in this world

00:13:58 --> 00:13:58

and in the hereafter.

00:14:00 --> 00:14:02

At the same time, it's very important

00:14:02 --> 00:14:04

as we finish 1 term into the next

00:14:04 --> 00:14:06

term, as we finish 1 year into the

00:14:06 --> 00:14:07

next year,

00:14:08 --> 00:14:10

have the capacity and the ability

00:14:11 --> 00:14:13

and the moral strength

00:14:13 --> 00:14:14

to evaluate

00:14:14 --> 00:14:15

perhaps our shortcomings.

00:14:16 --> 00:14:18

What could have been done better and what

00:14:18 --> 00:14:19

should we do differently?

00:14:25 --> 00:14:27

If Allah wishes well for a person, he

00:14:27 --> 00:14:29

grants that person the capacity

00:14:29 --> 00:14:31

to see their own shortcomings.

00:14:31 --> 00:14:33

So what do you do with it?

00:14:33 --> 00:14:35

It's no you're seeing. Some people don't see

00:14:35 --> 00:14:36

their shortcomings.

00:14:37 --> 00:14:39

Then there are those who see their shortcomings

00:14:39 --> 00:14:41

and do nothing about it. That's worse.

00:14:41 --> 00:14:44

Those who don't see it, don't see it.

00:14:44 --> 00:14:45

But those who see it and do nothing,

00:14:45 --> 00:14:46

they are worse.

00:14:47 --> 00:14:49

So do we see and realize where we

00:14:49 --> 00:14:50

fall short?

00:14:51 --> 00:14:53

And let it begin with relationships at home,

00:14:53 --> 00:14:55

with our family and our friends and our

00:14:55 --> 00:14:57

loved ones. We can't. We keep on wanting

00:14:57 --> 00:14:59

to change the world and make everybody Islamic,

00:14:59 --> 00:15:00

being Islamic in yourself.

00:15:01 --> 00:15:03

You want to make justice and goodness everywhere,

00:15:03 --> 00:15:04

feed your family.

00:15:05 --> 00:15:07

You want to raise money to help the

00:15:07 --> 00:15:10

poor in Palestine, by all means do so.

00:15:11 --> 00:15:12

Do you have a brother or sister who's

00:15:12 --> 00:15:13

out of job?

00:15:13 --> 00:15:15

Do you have a neighbor who's in need?

00:15:16 --> 00:15:20

It's your responsibility. It's our responsibility. Allah will

00:15:20 --> 00:15:21

ask you. If a neighbor goes hungry,

00:15:22 --> 00:15:23

Allah will ask a neighbor, didn't you have

00:15:23 --> 00:15:25

a Muslim who was on your side? And

00:15:25 --> 00:15:26

Allah will ask you.

00:15:27 --> 00:15:28

There was one shirk.

00:15:30 --> 00:15:32

He called his student and he asked his

00:15:32 --> 00:15:34

student who was also becoming a alim, he

00:15:34 --> 00:15:35

asked him,

00:15:36 --> 00:15:38

you have a neighbor

00:15:39 --> 00:15:41

who's going hungry for 3 days, and then

00:15:41 --> 00:15:43

they have come to ask for food, and

00:15:43 --> 00:15:44

people came and I inquired.

00:15:45 --> 00:15:47

So he said to him, you know, I

00:15:47 --> 00:15:47

want to

00:15:48 --> 00:15:49

maybe expel you from the madrasa.

00:15:51 --> 00:15:53

How did you not help your neighbor? He

00:15:53 --> 00:15:54

said, Sheikh, I did not know. He said,

00:15:54 --> 00:15:56

now I want to ban you completely. How

00:15:56 --> 00:15:58

come you didn't even know about it? What

00:15:58 --> 00:15:59

kind of neighbor are you that you're not

00:15:59 --> 00:16:01

aware that your neighbor is going hungry?

00:16:02 --> 00:16:04

Not helping is one thing, not even being

00:16:04 --> 00:16:07

aware. And some people are neither aware, and

00:16:07 --> 00:16:09

even if they are aware, they don't care.

00:16:09 --> 00:16:11

That's not the way a Muslim is. Irrespective

00:16:11 --> 00:16:13

of the labor, being Muslim or non Muslim

00:16:13 --> 00:16:14

does not matter.

00:16:15 --> 00:16:17

We are agents of change, agents of goodness

00:16:18 --> 00:16:19

and Allah will test

00:16:20 --> 00:16:22

and will ask those who go hungry, those

00:16:22 --> 00:16:24

who are in need, those who are destitute.

00:16:24 --> 00:16:26

You will ask, where were the Muslims then?

00:16:26 --> 00:16:28

Because Allah asked through us.

00:16:29 --> 00:16:30

Remember the hadith Qudsi?

00:16:31 --> 00:16:32

Where Allah will say on the day of

00:16:32 --> 00:16:34

Qiyama, I was hungry and you didn't feed

00:16:34 --> 00:16:35

me. And you'll say, oh Allah, you are

00:16:35 --> 00:16:37

self sufficient. You are.

00:16:39 --> 00:16:40

He He said, don't you know someone was

00:16:40 --> 00:16:41

hungry and starving?

00:16:42 --> 00:16:44

Had you fed him and helped him, you

00:16:44 --> 00:16:45

would have found me with him.

00:16:47 --> 00:16:50

So wise ones have said that experience is

00:16:50 --> 00:16:52

not what happens to a person.

00:16:52 --> 00:16:55

It is what a person does with what

00:16:55 --> 00:16:55

happens

00:16:56 --> 00:16:59

around him and to him or to her.

00:16:59 --> 00:17:00

Remember, however,

00:17:01 --> 00:17:01

experience

00:17:02 --> 00:17:04

only teaches the teachable.

00:17:04 --> 00:17:06

There are some people who refuse to learn.

00:17:06 --> 00:17:08

You can take a horse to the water,

00:17:08 --> 00:17:10

you cannot make it drink.

00:17:10 --> 00:17:11

So remember, however,

00:17:12 --> 00:17:14

experience teaches only the teachable

00:17:14 --> 00:17:16

and only those who want to learn.

00:17:17 --> 00:17:19

If we fail to learn from experience,

00:17:20 --> 00:17:22

whether it be in our homework, whether it

00:17:22 --> 00:17:23

be in our studies, whether it be in

00:17:23 --> 00:17:23

our teaching,

00:17:24 --> 00:17:27

we set ourselves on the path to failure,

00:17:27 --> 00:17:28

even for teachers.

00:17:28 --> 00:17:30

If you find something doesn't work with your

00:17:30 --> 00:17:32

students, try something different.

00:17:33 --> 00:17:35

Find a better way of doing it.

00:17:36 --> 00:17:37

It's something that may work for some students,

00:17:37 --> 00:17:38

may not work for others.

00:17:39 --> 00:17:40

Your job is to unlock that

00:17:41 --> 00:17:43

because you are the key.

00:17:44 --> 00:17:46

If we fail to learn from experience,

00:17:47 --> 00:17:49

we set ourselves on the path to failure.

00:17:49 --> 00:17:51

The question is,

00:17:51 --> 00:17:52

are we willing to learn

00:17:53 --> 00:17:54

or are we preparing to fail?

00:17:55 --> 00:17:57

A believer always learns. And if you see

00:17:57 --> 00:17:59

something doesn't work, you don't do it.

00:18:02 --> 00:18:03

A believer has never bitten from the same

00:18:03 --> 00:18:04

hole twice.

00:18:05 --> 00:18:07

Once you make a mistake, you learn from

00:18:07 --> 00:18:08

it. Next time,

00:18:08 --> 00:18:10

you don't make that mistake. You learn from

00:18:10 --> 00:18:11

it already.

00:18:12 --> 00:18:14

And this prophetic tradition

00:18:14 --> 00:18:16

intimates that a believer should not make the

00:18:16 --> 00:18:18

same mistake repeatedly,

00:18:19 --> 00:18:21

but also to learn from past experience.

00:18:23 --> 00:18:24

Do you remember the experience you had the

00:18:24 --> 00:18:26

last time? Don't repeat it.

00:18:26 --> 00:18:28

It's only when you strive for excellence,

00:18:29 --> 00:18:30

and I want to remind

00:18:30 --> 00:18:32

specifically our learners,

00:18:32 --> 00:18:35

not perfection. Only Allah is perfect.

00:18:35 --> 00:18:37

When we strive for excellence,

00:18:37 --> 00:18:40

then we will do simple things expertly

00:18:41 --> 00:18:43

and acquire the skills

00:18:44 --> 00:18:46

to do difficult things easily.

00:18:48 --> 00:18:49

Some people are so stuck

00:18:50 --> 00:18:51

with their mistakes

00:18:51 --> 00:18:53

that they may have made,

00:18:53 --> 00:18:54

whether it'd been their learning,

00:18:55 --> 00:18:57

whether it'd been their behavior,

00:18:57 --> 00:19:00

whether it'd been their attitude towards work, whether

00:19:00 --> 00:19:01

it'd been relationships

00:19:01 --> 00:19:02

with others.

00:19:03 --> 00:19:05

They're so stuck with the negativity of the

00:19:05 --> 00:19:05

past,

00:19:06 --> 00:19:08

it prevents them from any positivity of the

00:19:08 --> 00:19:08

future.

00:19:10 --> 00:19:12

Among the most endearing things, for example, in

00:19:12 --> 00:19:14

the eyes of Allah is Tawba.

00:19:15 --> 00:19:17

And this is very empowering, not for the

00:19:17 --> 00:19:20

Tawba's sake itself, of course, which is tremendous

00:19:20 --> 00:19:21

thing. Allah

00:19:21 --> 00:19:21

says,

00:19:23 --> 00:19:26

Allah love those who purify themselves and those

00:19:26 --> 00:19:28

who turn to him in repentance.

00:19:29 --> 00:19:31

And repentance come after making a wrong, after

00:19:31 --> 00:19:32

making a mistake.

00:19:33 --> 00:19:36

If the Almighty Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala

00:19:36 --> 00:19:39

can keep the doors open even for the

00:19:39 --> 00:19:39

sinner,

00:19:40 --> 00:19:43

why are we closing the doors on ourselves

00:19:44 --> 00:19:45

from our own errors?

00:19:46 --> 00:19:47

But the way to do it is to

00:19:47 --> 00:19:50

move on, to learn from it and move

00:19:50 --> 00:19:50

on.

00:19:51 --> 00:19:52

They

00:19:52 --> 00:19:52

say,

00:19:56 --> 00:19:58

It's a life transformational process.

00:19:58 --> 00:20:00

It's a transformational process.

00:20:01 --> 00:20:02

It's a forward looking progression.

00:20:03 --> 00:20:04

It's a forward looking progression.

00:20:05 --> 00:20:07

It's not to be stuck with the sin,

00:20:07 --> 00:20:08

but to make and move on.

00:20:09 --> 00:20:12

So be forward looking. Do not drive on

00:20:12 --> 00:20:15

the road looking into the rear view mirror

00:20:15 --> 00:20:15

all the time.

00:20:16 --> 00:20:17

Look forward through the windshield

00:20:18 --> 00:20:19

and pay attention

00:20:19 --> 00:20:20

to the direction

00:20:21 --> 00:20:22

in which you are heading.

00:20:23 --> 00:20:25

Mistakes make us confront our limitations.

00:20:25 --> 00:20:27

Of course, we are human.

00:20:28 --> 00:20:29

We all make mistakes.

00:20:30 --> 00:20:32

It makes us face our shortcomings,

00:20:33 --> 00:20:35

but it could also motivate us to use

00:20:35 --> 00:20:36

our strengths

00:20:36 --> 00:20:37

to overcome our weaknesses.

00:20:39 --> 00:20:41

Taking stock of ourselves

00:20:41 --> 00:20:43

and charting the best way forward, whether it

00:20:43 --> 00:20:45

be the new term or the new year,

00:20:45 --> 00:20:46

is transformational

00:20:47 --> 00:20:47

and always

00:20:48 --> 00:20:50

a positive step and always

00:20:51 --> 00:20:52

in the right direction.

00:20:53 --> 00:20:55

If we change what we are doing,

00:20:56 --> 00:20:57

then change for the better.

00:20:58 --> 00:21:00

If we are continuing to do what we

00:21:00 --> 00:21:02

are doing, then find a better way of

00:21:02 --> 00:21:03

doing it.

00:21:04 --> 00:21:05

Perhaps a more efficient,

00:21:05 --> 00:21:06

a more effective

00:21:08 --> 00:21:09

way of doing something.

00:21:09 --> 00:21:12

Be brave enough to change if change is

00:21:12 --> 00:21:12

required.

00:21:13 --> 00:21:14

Change the methodology

00:21:15 --> 00:21:16

or correct the cause of action.

00:21:17 --> 00:21:19

At the battle of the confederates, the battle

00:21:19 --> 00:21:20

of Hazar,

00:21:21 --> 00:21:21

627

00:21:22 --> 00:21:23

of the Christian era,

00:21:24 --> 00:21:24

the opposition

00:21:25 --> 00:21:26

far outnumbered the Muslims.

00:21:27 --> 00:21:28

And since the Muslims were going to be

00:21:28 --> 00:21:29

surrounded,

00:21:29 --> 00:21:32

Salman al Farisi was not an Arab, one

00:21:32 --> 00:21:35

of the companions of Rasulullah, sallallahu alaihi wasallam,

00:21:35 --> 00:21:37

suggested an idea that Arabs never had, a

00:21:37 --> 00:21:39

novel idea, an innovative idea.

00:21:40 --> 00:21:41

He said, why don't we build a trench

00:21:41 --> 00:21:43

in Persia? We build a trench if the

00:21:43 --> 00:21:45

enemy is too big, so it keeps them

00:21:45 --> 00:21:46

out, they can't.

00:21:46 --> 00:21:48

And they dug a trench.

00:21:48 --> 00:21:51

The idea was different from the norm of

00:21:51 --> 00:21:51

the Arabs,

00:21:52 --> 00:21:54

but it was innovative and more effective than

00:21:54 --> 00:21:56

what the Arabs did traditionally.

00:21:56 --> 00:21:58

So whether it be your teaching,

00:21:58 --> 00:22:00

whether it be your work, whatever it may

00:22:00 --> 00:22:03

be, if something better comes or you find

00:22:03 --> 00:22:05

a better way of doing it, please do

00:22:05 --> 00:22:06

so. That's your Islamic responsibility.

00:22:07 --> 00:22:09

The idea of digging in the trench was

00:22:09 --> 00:22:10

completely innovative,

00:22:11 --> 00:22:13

completely foreign to the Arabs.

00:22:13 --> 00:22:16

But it was innovative. It was more effective.

00:22:16 --> 00:22:18

It was practical and it worked.

00:22:18 --> 00:22:19

That is important.

00:22:20 --> 00:22:23

You see people who normally make good judgments

00:22:24 --> 00:22:26

are usually people who think sensibly,

00:22:26 --> 00:22:28

who analyze critically,

00:22:28 --> 00:22:29

who listen carefully,

00:22:30 --> 00:22:31

who prepare strategically,

00:22:32 --> 00:22:33

who plan practically,

00:22:33 --> 00:22:35

and who act efficiently.

00:22:36 --> 00:22:37

So think carefully.

00:22:38 --> 00:22:39

Learn from the past,

00:22:39 --> 00:22:42

but do not be stuck there. Before thinking,

00:22:43 --> 00:22:44

as you said, plan appropriately,

00:22:45 --> 00:22:46

act timelessly.

00:22:46 --> 00:22:47

Some people do the right thing but at

00:22:47 --> 00:22:49

the wrong time it's too late.

00:22:49 --> 00:22:51

Start studying the night before exam, it's too

00:22:51 --> 00:22:53

late. You're doing the right thing but

00:22:54 --> 00:22:55

not the right time.

00:22:56 --> 00:22:59

Live within your means. Try not to enslave

00:22:59 --> 00:23:01

yourself because debt enslaves you.

00:23:01 --> 00:23:02

And have always

00:23:03 --> 00:23:04

be conscious of reality.

00:23:05 --> 00:23:07

And do the best you can with what

00:23:07 --> 00:23:09

you have from where you are.

00:23:12 --> 00:23:15

Begin begin by valuing the time that we

00:23:15 --> 00:23:18

have at our disposal because time is opportunity.

00:23:18 --> 00:23:22

Sheikh ibn Attaulay in his hikam, his aphorisms

00:23:22 --> 00:23:23

or wise sayings, he said

00:23:29 --> 00:23:30

He said in his hikam,

00:23:30 --> 00:23:33

the time that has gone by is irreplaceable.

00:23:34 --> 00:23:36

The time that has gone by is irreplaceable.

00:23:36 --> 00:23:37

And the time

00:23:38 --> 00:23:41

that has arrived, the moment that you have

00:23:41 --> 00:23:42

is priceless.

00:23:43 --> 00:23:45

The moment that you have is priceless.

00:23:46 --> 00:23:47

You see part

00:23:48 --> 00:23:50

of human maturity, and this is important,

00:23:52 --> 00:23:53

Part of human maturity

00:23:54 --> 00:23:56

is the ability to reflect

00:23:57 --> 00:23:59

upon what we have learned from the past

00:24:00 --> 00:24:01

in order to prepare

00:24:02 --> 00:24:03

for a more fruitful

00:24:03 --> 00:24:05

and more productive future.

00:24:06 --> 00:24:09

Let's take from the universal guidance of Allah

00:24:10 --> 00:24:13

to step into the worthy and positive direction

00:24:13 --> 00:24:15

of righteousness and rightfulness,

00:24:16 --> 00:24:17

and let's ponder.

00:24:24 --> 00:24:25

Where are you heading?

00:24:27 --> 00:24:29

Well, the context of this verse was referring

00:24:29 --> 00:24:29

to people

00:24:30 --> 00:24:32

who were idol worshipers and those who were

00:24:32 --> 00:24:35

inclined towards wrongful belief, but the question is

00:24:35 --> 00:24:36

still a perennial question.

00:24:37 --> 00:24:39

Where are you going to? Which direction are

00:24:39 --> 00:24:40

you heading?

00:24:41 --> 00:24:41

I

00:24:42 --> 00:24:44

mean the guidance coming from the Rasool and

00:24:44 --> 00:24:46

the guidance that we adhere to is a

00:24:46 --> 00:24:50

divine guidance, a reminder for all of universe.

00:24:56 --> 00:24:58

For those who really want to walk in

00:24:58 --> 00:24:59

the right way,

00:25:00 --> 00:25:01

You need to walk in the right way.

00:25:01 --> 00:25:02

Having the guidance

00:25:03 --> 00:25:04

is not good enough.

00:25:05 --> 00:25:06

If I give you the exam paper for

00:25:06 --> 00:25:09

tomorrow's exam, you're not gonna pass. Even if

00:25:09 --> 00:25:11

I give you the paper, you must know

00:25:11 --> 00:25:11

the content.

00:25:12 --> 00:25:14

Having the Quran in your hand is not

00:25:14 --> 00:25:16

sufficient. You must live by the Quran.

00:25:17 --> 00:25:18

Having it in your hand doesn't mean anything.

00:25:18 --> 00:25:20

It's good that you have it, alhumdulillah.

00:25:20 --> 00:25:22

It's barakah. It's good, but it's not taking

00:25:22 --> 00:25:24

you anywhere unless you walk with it.

00:25:25 --> 00:25:28

And therefore, as we enter this new year,

00:25:29 --> 00:25:31

let us make a collective resolution, Insha'Allah,

00:25:31 --> 00:25:32

to manifest

00:25:32 --> 00:25:33

the goodness

00:25:34 --> 00:25:36

that can come from our sincerity and our

00:25:36 --> 00:25:37

commitment

00:25:37 --> 00:25:38

to excellence.

00:25:39 --> 00:25:41

And let us manifest the ihsan

00:25:42 --> 00:25:42

that emulates

00:25:43 --> 00:25:45

through us as a gift from the almighty

00:25:45 --> 00:25:45

Allah.

00:25:46 --> 00:25:47

Allah says,

00:25:49 --> 00:25:50

Be good.

00:25:51 --> 00:25:55

Do good. Manifest goodness as Allah has been

00:25:55 --> 00:25:56

good to you.

00:25:59 --> 00:26:00

Be good

00:26:01 --> 00:26:02

as Allah has been good to you.

00:26:03 --> 00:26:04

We ask Allah

00:26:06 --> 00:26:08

that our lives be filled with fear and

00:26:08 --> 00:26:09

barakah,

00:26:09 --> 00:26:11

the goodness and blessings,

00:26:11 --> 00:26:13

and may this coming year be a year

00:26:13 --> 00:26:14

that we commit ourselves

00:26:15 --> 00:26:17

to that and to that goodness and excellence

00:26:17 --> 00:26:18

of.

00:26:20 --> 00:26:22

Excellence in our relationship with our creator, with

00:26:22 --> 00:26:24

our family, with our friends,

00:26:24 --> 00:26:25

with our neighbors,

00:26:26 --> 00:26:28

in engaging in our work with our staff,

00:26:28 --> 00:26:30

with our colleagues,

00:26:30 --> 00:26:32

whether it be in our studies

00:26:33 --> 00:26:34

and consciousness of the environment

00:26:35 --> 00:26:37

and the world around us.

00:26:54 --> 00:26:56

Khan for those beautiful and inspirational words. May

00:26:56 --> 00:26:57

Allah

00:26:58 --> 00:27:00

grant Sheikh Sadula Khan many more years full

00:27:00 --> 00:27:02

with happiness and strength, so that he can

00:27:02 --> 00:27:05

continue to guide and inspire us all, Insha'Allah.

00:27:05 --> 00:27:06

Amen.

00:27:06 --> 00:27:09

We are requested to make du'a for Sadiq

00:27:09 --> 00:27:11

Dinie who is currently very ill in Victoria

00:27:11 --> 00:27:13

Hospital with a broken hip and a weak

00:27:13 --> 00:27:14

heart. May

00:27:15 --> 00:27:18

Allah grant brother Sadiq Sadiq Thini, and all

00:27:18 --> 00:27:21

those that are sick complete, Shifa and Kamla,

00:27:22 --> 00:27:25

It is also the 76th birthday of Khayru

00:27:25 --> 00:27:28

Nisa Shaykh, so we make du'a that Allah

00:27:28 --> 00:27:31

grant Khayru Nisa many more years, filled with

00:27:31 --> 00:27:34

happiness and strength and grant sister Khairunisa all

00:27:34 --> 00:27:36

that her heart desires and more.

00:27:38 --> 00:27:38

Alhamdulillah,

00:27:38 --> 00:27:41

today, Islamic College has the honor of officiating

00:27:41 --> 00:27:44

the Jumuah. The first adhan will be made

00:27:44 --> 00:27:47

by Abdul Hafiz Talib, and the second adhan

00:27:47 --> 00:27:49

will be made by Adam Oren.

00:28:01 --> 00:28:03

Also, we make dua for, doctor Hayat.

00:28:04 --> 00:28:07

Doctor Gulam Dazdaki Hayat was also in a

00:28:07 --> 00:28:08

trial who'll be going a

00:28:09 --> 00:28:10

major procedure.

00:28:10 --> 00:28:11

We may to be,

00:28:13 --> 00:28:14

a successor, Amin

00:28:15 --> 00:28:16

and also

00:28:19 --> 00:28:21

And from the Masjid side and the school

00:28:21 --> 00:28:22

side, we wish each and everyone.

00:28:27 --> 00:28:29

And also just a reminder to the brothers,

00:28:29 --> 00:28:31

inshallah, another request. Just the collection of the

00:28:31 --> 00:28:33

masjid are very weak. We ask the brothers,

00:28:33 --> 00:28:35

Inshallah, to donate towards the masjid, the upkeeping

00:28:35 --> 00:28:37

of the masjid generously.

00:28:39 --> 00:28:41

We just ask the brothers to stand.

00:28:41 --> 00:28:43

Quite a few people are standing outside.

00:28:44 --> 00:28:46

There are quite a few spaces on, your

00:28:46 --> 00:28:47

left hand side.

00:28:47 --> 00:28:49

The school is occupying the right hand side.

00:28:49 --> 00:28:51

So on the left hand side, the corner

00:28:51 --> 00:28:53

there also there's a lot of space. And

00:28:53 --> 00:28:54

we just ask the brothers to fold the

00:28:54 --> 00:28:56

gaps now already inshallah

00:28:56 --> 00:28:58

before the adhan goes, before we make our

00:28:58 --> 00:29:00

sunnah salah so that we don't waste any

00:29:00 --> 00:29:01

time after

00:29:02 --> 00:29:02

the

00:42:57 --> 00:42:58

along with.
