The Healthy Shame of the Prophets

After welcoming my brothers and sisters to the house of Allah azza wa jal and reminding myself and you with the Taqwa of Allah to live consciously Allah. We began last week by speaking about one of the foundational elements for taqwa, the bedrock for taqwa, which is to have that natural human sense of shame, that internal alarm system that drives our morality, our moral compass, our ability to do good and drives our our notion of I must stay away from evil.

And we said that although this is a human, naturally inborn experience, societies can sort of decondition people strip people of it, make them feel like some of it or all of it is foreign, or uncalled for or oppressive. Whereas Islam said the right kind of hire the right kind of shame, the healthy shame and modesty, this is sacred, you need to protect it and you need to grow it. And it is interlocked with faith. He said sallallahu alayhi wa sallam Our Prophet said, it is the twin pair of your faith. It goes up with your faith and comes down with the weakness of your faith. And he told us that every single prophet called his people to hire, called his people to having healthy shame

and treating the sacredly and valuing it. Today, I want to speak about the fact that the prophets of Allah, the best human beings, had the best share of this shame, this healthy shame, the sense of religious conscience. They didn't just call people to it as the Hadith we discussed mentioned, but they walked the talk, they lived by this.

For instance, you have that very famous Hadith, authentically reported transmission from the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam that says on the Day of Judgment, every single prophet that will be approached, to ask Allah to begin to judgment already to end the standing and the waiting already. Every single one of them will remember their sin and say, I can't, right, he'll be sort of ashamed of it. And that is just one of the many different forms of hieght. By the way, you know, in some, Athol some reports that haven't been as authentically reported, it said that Prophet Adam Alayhis Salam, when he first committed the sin, he was found fleeing in genuine like running in Jannah. And

so Allah revealed to him if you're on minea. Adam, are you trying to escape me? Oh, Adam, Cole Abell, hyah, and mink, you know, I'm doing this out of shame of you. I'm actually fleeing because I don't know where to turn my face. That's what my reaction is from.

And then you think about it on the Day of Judgment. These prophets also they know that their sin has been forgiven, Allah revealed this to the prophets. And yet there is still shame. That's a different kind of shame. It's a shame of I don't know where to put my face even after knowing you forgiven me because you didn't have to, and you get nothing out of it. And you still did it. It increases a person with a sense of shame. Like this is a nonprofit with Eliphalet Lipner al Rahim Allah when you read his biography, this was a man that had a very ugly pass. He was a road bandit. And perhaps he was into alcoholism as well. And

when he reformed and he used to perform hajj, they would see him standing on out off on the mountain seeking forgiveness from Allah by saying, Were so attached who are in I felt, oh my shame even if you forgive me, like I disobeyed you, though, I need you so much. And then you bring me back to the lights you bring me back to the path, even though you don't need to. And you forgive me, though, you get no benefit gain from this that causes me to have even more higher. And so that was the idea the prophets of Allah on the Day of Judgment have this higher, for many reasons of it is the fact that they made the mistake or and have it is the fact that Allah forgave them for the mistake. So he

captured it for us, Allah, His salatu salam, that they had this higher because they knew that it was just unattainable to actually show up in a way on the Day of Judgment, even without sins, that you can simply be proud and feel accomplished. No, it's all about Allah's mercy. And he's so readily there to give it it causes a sense of humility and shame.

In fact, even the angels are a perfect example of this because they don't commit sins. Jabba Radi Allahu Anhu said that the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said when Allah first resurrect the dead for the day of judgment to start the angels when they are revived. The first thing they will say is Subhanak Mabry

not gonna have diabetic glorified you are Oh Allah, we haven't done enough. We have not devoted ourselves to you night and day without sinning without sleeping. We're not expected to be angels but even the angel is gonna say we have not worshipped you as you are greatness deserves to be worshipped.

So that is an image of all of the prophets at large on the Day of Judgment. Then you look in the Quran, the Quran celebrates in different places, the great sense of shame, the beautiful sense of shame that Musa alayhis salam had, in sort of Al Assad for example.

There is the story of the taunting and the harassment of bento is brought in to Musa alayhis salam, they became very immoral in the latter generations. And, you know, impropriety, you know, lewdness, you know, sexual openness, lack of shame became prevalent,

to the point that Musa alayhis salam to them was just weird. He was such a stranger though he was their prophet, because by contrast, he made them look bad, how much shame he had, they used to harass him for his shame, and so on. So I had to because he ever hurt. Hurayrah says that the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said, Ben, we saw eel got to a point when they would be together in the lakes and the rivers naked in front of each other men and women. And Musa alayhis salam was a man of great, higher, great shame, that he would always cover his body and no one would ever see him uncovered. And so they began to make up these lies and these stories about Musa alayhis salam, that

he must have a skin disorder he must have and they said things about even his reproductive organs that he had hernias and the likes. That's the only reason because he has a disgraceful body.

But Musa alayhis salam did not have shame because he felt inferior. Many people think shame equals inferiority, shame fields, you know, means I feel disgraceful, no. This was the shame of chastity. Right? He saw himself above disrobing in front of others. And so one time when this continued to happen,

Allah azza wa jal caused yet another miracle to unfold in front of them. These people who Allah granted 12 springs to quench them and give them water out of a rock. One time when Musa alayhis salam went far away and set his clothes down on a rock to go bathe separately away from everyone in private, Allah cause the rock to get up and run away with his clothing. And Allah is over certainly, certainly over all things capable. And so Musa alayhis salam just reacting, he gets out and he begins to chase down this rock to retrieve his clothing before someone sees him. And Allah has their path wind up right in front of a big gathering from Beto etc, etc.

Until they saw him and they realized he had the most impressive physique out of them all. And we all know the physical strength of Musa alayhis salam, till he finally grabs his clothes back and he puts it on and he begins to strike the rock for stealing his clothing. And the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said to us that if I were there in that region today, I could still show you the marks from his beating of that rock on the rock itself.

And then that is in Sorella hisab Allah speaks about this. Yeah, you had Lavina and Manu later Kuno can Latina as they will Musa forgot Raja hula hula ME MY GOD who were Cana in the Lucha jihad. Oh, you have believed, do not be like those who harassed Moses, don't harass your Prophet Muhammad about things do not be like those who harassed Moses. And so Allah cleared him of their allegations. Right? And he alayhi salam was someone that had a great reputation not just after Allah cleared him on Earth, but he is someone that is what g of high esteem with Allah himself

for his hire for his great qualities, you go to suitable causes suitable cosas min mentioned another beautiful incident of the hire of Musa alayhis salam. When he flees as a refugee from Egypt and the tyranny of Pharaoh. He arrives at a place called Midian in Medina, and he's arriving absolutely depleted his sandals torn, Some reports say thirsty hungry, the sun over his head, he arrives at a well, and at this well people are all drinking and giving their animals to drink. And that he finds two women watch it, I mean, do any human attain it as do then two women off to the side trying to keep their animals away from the well because if they get close to the crowd, they're gonna have to

go in after them or else also the animals could get stolen or taken. They're trying to keep their animals from crowding so they don't have to crowd. So Musa alayhis salam says to them like a real man should Malhotra beaucoup

What's going on? What's happening? They said, Lana so they had they usually are we are we will not feed our animals until all these shepherds gleif. We will not crowd Ben.

We're gonna show you one caveat, because our father is an elderly man, meaning we wouldn't even be here if he could be here himself

for Safar, Lahoma. And so Musa alayhis salam pulls for them from the well, all of the water that they need for themselves and their animals that are grazing with them. Phil matawa, Allah hears the higher of Musa alayhis salam, and then he steps away in a little to the shade. He doesn't start start a conversation with them. He doesn't socialize, hey, by the way, what's your name? Where you guys from? Where do you live? You just he does the service and steps away

in a village to the shade because he was

scorched by the sun. And he says that I'll be in Neelima and delta l am and played in fact here I am in dire need my lord of whatever good you can send to me. So from his higher is that he did not socialize and by the way from his higher is that he didn't ask for payment. Right? He asked payment from Allah. He was too dignified. He felt it inappropriate to make this transactional. And so Allah sent him the next verses go on to say a woman filled to the brim with higher Allah says Fauja ATS who Ishida Houma as he's waiting there in the shade one of these two women re approaches him. Tim she is still here in Carlat coming to him, walking upon her yet walking upon modesty upon shame. She

said, You know, the scholars point out that the place where Allah put the word shame, right in the middle of walking upon shame, as if the way she walks is filled with modesty and shame, right? It's not shameless, not her gait, not the way she's taking strides, none of that, walking upon shame. And then Allah says, she said, and so upon shame, upon shame, she said, is also describing it goes both ways, describing the way she was speaking. Everything about her was filled with higher from the beauty of the character of this woman.

She said to him, My father is inviting you to repay you he's offering to repay you for the service, you extend it to us. I'm not coming here to tell him you come have dinner. If my dad could have been here, he would have been here. I'm his envoy. He wants you to come to repay you. Right, the beautiful higher of this woman. And so this is the higher of the profits. And after the break in sha Allah will speak a bit about the beautiful higher of our Prophet Muhammad sallallahu alayhi wa sallam which which could never be outdone, a hold of Allah will start from LA Ravi Medina welcome.

as for the matchless, hyah, healthy shame, intense shame that shine from our Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam. You can notice it, for example, in the famous incident between him and Musa alayhis salam, when Allah sent him up in the night journey, and told him 50 prayers. And so when he returns to the fifth heaven Musala Salam is listen, people will not be able to handle it. I had to deal with bento saw in trust me on this one, and asked for a reduction. And every time he came back down, he would tell him no, no, no, ask for another reduction. I've dealt with people they won't be able to keep up with it. And so it goes from 50 to 45 to 40 to 35 to 30 to 25 to 20 to 15 to 10 to

five and Musa Alison I'm still telling him go ask Allah for a further reduction. The people aren't going to be able to maintain the five prayers. So the prophets Allah Allahu alayhi wa sallam says to him, love could sell to rob be had this to hate. I've asked Allah for so many discounts or reductions until I felt ashamed. I felt ashamed to even approach him anymore. How could I not feel ashamed in the face of this generosity

from Allah Tabata kehlata Allah and then Allah reveals and this is for every person who struggles with prayers to remember Allah reveals it will be five, they hear a voice that says it will be five, but the reward will remain at 50 from his generosity subhanho wa Taala you know, in another incident on earth, there is an ayah in the Quran when Allah azza wa jal says also an Allah has said by the way, in a valley comm Can I use the nebbia for steaming calm whoo Hola. Hola. You're stuck in the middle Huck. Your behavior? Oh Muslims was

annoying the prophet and he was too ashamed to mention it to you. But Allah is not too ashamed to speak the truth.

This is about the fact the whole ayah explains it. When the Prophet alayhi salatu salam would invite people to his house, as would be expected from so many of us, they lose track of time, they overstay their welcome. And we should have higher as guests anywhere, eat and leave. So the ice has eaten leave, because life has to go on the prophet has things to do. And he's just not telling you. But But just notice where it came from. He is being generous to his guests, but he sees it differently. He sees that his guest is being generous with him for accepting his invitation. So his higher of their generosity. Can you imagine how beautiful his haircut was? They gave me the time of day they

accepted they allowed me to feed them to host them.

And then one final incident I'll mention to you quickly, a woman wants came to the Prophet salAllahu alayhi wasallam concerned whether her prayer is valid or not. She said after my menstrual cycle ends, how do I prepare for the prayer? He said when your short has ended, you bathe you take the ritual bath the hosel and then you take a carton that is perfumed and you complete your purification with it. So she said What do you mean complete my purification with it?

So he said Subhan Allah complete your purification with it. He doesn't want to say he wishes she can just get it he wishes he doesn't have to her question is not shameful. But he's hoping that he doesn't have to break that barrier. That psychological formality barrier which is so important, because of that false everything false or everything is threatened at least to fall. And so she repeats the question and he says Subhan Allah just like figure it out. Until I shot all the Allahu anha saves the day she pulls the woman aside like coming here. And she says, Take That perfumed cotton and follow along f&m that had baby her f&m Follow along the traces of blood with it where

there was blood put perfume there.

Because it could be gone but the scent may not be. And so that was from his beautiful hire. To the point that I will say that CADRE are the Allahu answered our Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam had more higher was more intense in his healthy shame. Mina ladra if you can read from a virgin girl in her deepest room

what does that mean? You know a girl who's basically does not mix with men much right? If you just walk in on her on announced in her room, that's how she would be taken aback. I was at eight says he was more than that. Either raw che and Jaco who are of Nahum anyway, he, whenever he would see something that was offensive, we would know it right away from his face, he had so much hype, we would recognize it, and let that be our one action item today. When you see something wrong, something vulgar or you hear it, backbiting or gossip or vulgarity or you know, injustice or people laughing let them at least see in your face disapproval. Don't play along, practice higher so that

you can start experiencing higher people think I don't feel it. So why fake it? No, act that way. And you will begin to become accustomed to not being comfortable with these wrongdoings change the subject please. I don't like to talk about this. Forgive me leave that alone. We shouldn't say that. There's nothing funny about this. I'm sorry, right? May Allah give us the higher that our Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam left for us, allow us to imbibe it and reflect it. May Allah azza wa jal grant us enough safeguards to meet him safely and grant us drivers within us that naturally propel us to good Allahumma Amin May Allah forgive all of those that have passed and cure all of those who

are sick. Many of our brothers and sisters are sick these days with allergies and the flu and otherwise in some have been confirmed COVID positive and we have a nephew of a member in our community Lennox who is who was just born last week and suffered a an infant stroke.
