Sometimes in life you
wonder what am I doing here?
What's going on right now?
How did I end up where I am?
And where will I be tomorrow?
You count the blessings that surround you every
day.
Maybe sitting at home having suhod with your
family,
smiling at your children, thinking of the days
that you were alone in college without a
family
and you think, wow.
I have a little mini me.
And you look over at your spouse and
you think to yourself,
I'm almost confident in my teen years I
knew I was unlovable.
But today I have a spouse that sits
with me and shares this amazing beautiful meal.
And then sometimes you're sitting with your parents
and doing Iftar with them.
Smiling and thanking Allah for the Jannah that
sits right in front of you.
Or the father that comes to wake you
up for
and says,
come on. Let's have a meal together.
You might find yourself in the masjid
surrounded by so many righteous people wondering, what
am I doing here?
How did I end up here?
And then sometimes
you see yourself in shoulder to shoulder
with believers
who are crying in front of Allah subhanahu
wa ta'ala
and you're asking yourself again, how am I
here? What am I doing here?
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
out of his infinite mercy
showers
his cause rahma.
His
very special mercy
on the hearts of his friends.
These friends are selected
before they even know what friendship even means.
They are selected before they even have the
ability to articulate a single statement,
before they figured out
how thoughts are even constructed.
Allah azza wa jal in his infinite knowledge
has already selected
an Abdulrahman and Abdullah that this one will
serve my deen.
Allah
Allah
pulls to Himself. He selects
who He wills
and then he guides the one that turns
to him.
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala will give you opportunity.
This is that opportunity.
But walking the rest of that path once
Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala begins to open that
door for you.
For that you need Inaba.
Allah subhanahu wa jal will guide to him
the one that has Inaba. The one that
turns back to Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala again
and again.
They keep coming back to Allah azza wa
jal.
When you look at the companions of Rasulullah
salallahu alaihi wa sallam, this is what you
see.
Each of them was amazed
of where they were in life and the
opportunity they were blessed with.
They were just blown away when Sayyidina Abu
Bakr as siddiq radhiallahu an
was appointed as Khalifa. In his inaugural speech,
he said to the companions,
I have been appointed as khalifa over you
and I am no better than any of
you.
So as long as I do good,
stand with
me. And when I slip and when I
do wrong,
be sure to correct me and catch me.
This same Abu Bakr as siddiq radiallahu an,
he counts his blessings in life. He is
sitting one day with the Prophet sallallahu alaihi
wasallam
and the Prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam says, There
are 3 things I love very dearly.
Fragrance,
a pious wife, and the coolness of my
eyes lies in salah.
In one narration, Sayyidina Abu Bakr siddiq radiallahu
an, when he heard the prophet of Allah
say this, he said, O Messenger of Allah,
may I tell you what I love the
most?
The prophet said,
Go ahead.
And he says, O Messenger of Allah,
it brings me immense joy to know that
my daughter Aisha is your wife.
It brings me pleasure
when I spend my wealth on you, oh
messenger salallahu alayhi wa sallam. That earning for
you and spending it on you.
And, oh messenger of Allah, it brings me
pleasure to sit here looking at your beautiful
face.
Everything about his life was surrounded around Rasulullah
Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam because he knew that he
was given a blessing,
an opportunity.
We give too much weight to kabiliya
while forgetting the power of kubulia.
Kabiliya is the ability to do something that
you do something out of your
may not be that great or your action
may be great,
what brings you that excellence, what brings you
that honor
is from Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.
Actions are one thing but qubulia is another.
Sayidina Abu Bakr siddiq radiallahu an dedicated the
rest of his life
in the khidma of the prophet sallallahu alaihi
wa sallam.
Benefiting that
that blessing from benefiting from that blessing granted
to him by Allah ahsawa jal.
When he's lying on his death bed he
says to his daughter Aisha,
what day is it? She says it's a
Monday.
He said maybe Allah will take my soul
this day because this was the day my
friend left the dunya.
And
then he asks his daughter was I was
I a good father to you? She says,
yes, baba. You were great. He says, then
well give me the honor to be buried
next to the prophet salallahu alaihi wa sallam.
His entire life, the whole thing
was making the most out of an opportunity
that was gifted to him by Allah awwal.
And he became the khalifa of the prophet
salallahu alaihi wasallam, that successor of the prophet
salallahu alaihi wasallam,
who when needed was a rock
to stand in defense of Islam.
And on the other hand, that same Abu
Bakr siddiq radiallahu an, when he was on
his prayer mat, when he was standing in
front of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala in worship,
he couldn't recite the Quran.
Because when he would recite, tears would overcome
him.
That companionship of rasulullah sallallahu alaihi wa sallam,
that humility
of being thirsty for making the most out
of the opportunity presented to him had done
something to his heart.
When a person stays humble,
when they see a blessing and opportunity
and they don't become entitled of it, when
they keep asking Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala you
Allah, don't cut this rope of mine.
I'm not here by my own doing.
I'm not intelligent or smart or articulate because
there's something for me. All of this is
you you Allah.
Just don't let me go. Hold me tight.
Oh Allah, pull me by my forelock to
your
obedience, love and pleasure.
You Allah, you gave me tawfiq.
Now give me mumhabah.
Give me love.
You Allah, and if you give me mumhabah,
then give me the reward
for those that you have stored,
especially
for your lovers. You Allah, give me that
love that you have stored specifically
for your lovers.
Give
me These are the moments for you to
make those dua to Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.
These are the moments for you to raise
your hands
and ask Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala to accept
from you whatever good you've done.
You keep making du'a to Allah You Allah,
don't let me go. Keep me close.
Keep me dear. Keep me near You Allah.
The companions, rivuannallahuwani majma'een,
they learned this from Rasulullah sallallahuwanihi wasallam.
There was no point in the prophet's life
where the prophet of Allah became mustaqni of
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.
That I'm no longer in need of worshiping
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala. That I'm gonna step
away, that god has given me and that's
enough. No.
They remained committed
because they saw the prophet of Allah salallahu
alayhi wasalam at every step of his life
turning back to Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.
As these last 10 nights of Ramadan
come upon us,
tomorrow at Maghrib Salah,
the middle 10 days of Ramadan will have
passed by.
And in a narration
from Rasulullah salallahu alayhi wa sallam,
which by many scholars
is an acceptable narration. The prophet sallallahu alaihi
wa sallam said
regarding the 10 days of of Ramadan.
The first 10 days of Ramadan are special
with Allah's mercy
and the middle 10 days are special with
Allah, subhanahu wa ta'ala's forgiveness.
Earn your forgiveness in these middle 10 days.
In these last 24 hours, these last 36
hours that slowly inch us to the end
of these middle 10 days and then knock
us into the last 10,
later till Qadr awaits us. But as we
leave these middle 10 days,
turn to Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala and ask
him for his forgiveness.
Raise your hands in front of Allah.
Forgiveness is you acknowledging your state. Is
beautiful because not only is it a washing
system for your soul but it also creates
humility.
A person that does istighfar
is mustaadir of their own sins,
of their shortcomings.
That person is aware
of how much they lack.
They're constantly reflecting of righteous people that lived
before.
They're looking at the commands of Allah subhanahu
wa ta'ala in the Quran. And then they
look at themselves and they say, You Allah,
I know I can do better but the
way for me to be better is humble
and I'm turning to you astaghfirullah
astaghfirullah
astaghfirullah.
The alamadi write the lack of istiffar,
if it isn't due to negligence
then it could be a result of kibr.
And that would be a horrible state. Kibr
meaning arrogance that a person feels that actually
I don't need Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala's forgiveness.
You know I already do so much. I
already give sadaqa. What forgiveness?
I already read the Quran. I teach the
deen. I'm the guy who goes to the
masjid. I gave $10,000 to the masjid. God
better forgive me.
That's not how this deen works.
That's not how the relationship with Allah subhanahu
wa jal works.
The concept of fasting right now, this hunger
that you endure as a congregation
is only for one reason
and that is
to testify
of your ubudiyyah.
That I am a servant and slave of
Allah
haqqiqatan in reality if you were to summarize
all the ibadat we do, all the worship,
every sajda, our entire existence,
it could be summed up to one statement,
one word, Allah
subhanahu wa ta'ala wants us to admit that
you are a servant.
Just admit that. Live by it. Believe it.
That word is a little uncomfortable.
Considering yourself a slave or servant or another,
The ego of the human being doesn't accept
it. But Allah subhanahu wa jal wants you
to accept it. Allahu akbar, when you start
your salah, you start the journey right there
of Ubudia.
And then as you go through the and
read and crumble yourself
posture after posture and then lie on the
ground like a crumbled paper whispering to the
earth
knowing that the creator of the heavens and
the earth hears you and you are closest
to him in that moment. That moment is
so special to Allah. That posture is so
beloved to Allah. Why?
Because it's the ultimate physical manifestation
of
Servitude to Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala. That you
Allah, I am your slave. You Allah, I
am your servant. Why is it that Rasool
Allah says
that the tear of a believer will extinguish
the fire of * on the day of
judgement. Why?
Why?
Because that tear is a testimony of Allah
subhanahu wa ta'ala's love.
One urdu poet he says that the tear
that flows from my eyes is a testimony
that your that your
love is pouring out of my eyes. Now
these aren't tears. This isn't this didn't this
didn't originate from a duct.
This originated from my heart.
That my my heart is just pouring out
your love.
I'm before you You Allah. I'm crying in
front of you. You Allah, fasting has taught
me the lesson of
That you Allah, you will tell me what
to do and I will do it.
If you call me in the morning at
5 AM to the masjid, I'm gonna show
up.
If you tell me to come to the
masjid at 10 o'clock at night, I will
be there. You allah, for you, I'll wake
up at 5 AM and do suhud even
though my eyes are closed. I'll take a
few sips of water because I am your
servant.
You Allah for you, I'll stay awake till
1 AM in the morning for tarawee, biyaam,
tahajjud, listening to your words
because I am your servant, Labick You Allah.
I'm here. And I'll always be here. And
I'm not going anywhere.
You know, the sins that we commit in
our life,
unfortunately, are a stain on us and possibly
a hujjah against us on the day of
judgement.
But for that we have istighfar.
We can always turn to Allah and keep
asking Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala to forgive us.
For the prophet of Allah tells
us that your istighfar washes the sin away
from you as if you have no sin.
Never become despondent in Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala's
mercy.
Utilize the days ahead of you because they
are your days.
Raise your hands and speak to Allah because
he is your rub.
No person's hatred, jealousy, animosity
will ever end that relationship.
People will judge you, some will like you,
some won't. Some will put you forward, some
will push you back. Some will help you
in life, some will tug at you in
life. But all of those people at the
end of the day like yourself will come
to an end
as this physical body of ours will cease
to exist.
And what'll matter at the end of all
of it?
So the relationship
that we need to invest most in, the
lesson that we need to take away from
Ramadan
is that lesson of
meaning that I am a servant of Allah
subhanahu wa ta'ala. That's my hatika. That's my
reality. Even the prophet of Allah when he
introduced himself,
He just takdim of urbudiya on risala because
risala is a wasp of urbudiya,
urbudiya is the real is the reality, it's
the asl of every creation of Allah subhanahu
wa ta'ala. There is no other relationship anyone
can actually have with Allah whether you acknowledge
it or not other than being a servant,
enslave of Allah. And then among those servants
of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala, people who actually
come to terms with their are
then elevated among those servants of Allah
and they grow in wilayah.
They grow in, you know, in in in
in their in their salah, in their righteousness,
they grow in their taqwa. There are all
these different
ranks and statuses come into place. But in
reality all the states of righteousness
all emerge.
They all come from
one beginning
and that is Orbudiya.
Without it there is nothing.
Why is that? Why is it Allah subhanahu
wa ta'ala has no love for an arrogant
person? Because arrogance goes against urbuddhiya.
The 2 can't be together.
They can't be together. You can't put these
two things together. You can't have arrogance and
or buddhi at the same time. One's gonna
have to go. Let that go.
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala,
in the month of Ramadan, through all the
ibadat is teaching us this lesson.
And as Ramadan wraps up,
as we reach these last days,
I remind myself and everyone else here in
this congregation
to commit back to our Your
actions
are important
but at the center of every side of
the lies the servant
lies the heart of a servant.
Bring that heart into existence and trust me,
instead of a 1000 sajdas, one sajdas will
knock the gates of Jannah open for you.
You won't need to give a $1,000,000 anymore.
Just bring the heart of an habid, of
an abd, and give one dime in sadaqa,
the doors of jannah will be open for
you. The malaika will be waiting for you.
May Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala bless us with
it. May Allah subhanahu wa jal bring us
near to him. May Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
open our hearts. May he give us the
pleasures of sajdah. May Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
give us honor through our ruku. May Allah
subhanahu wa ta'ala keep us connected to the
masajid. May He allow these eyes to flow
in His love. May He keep the Quran
embedded in our heart. May Allah subhanahu wa
ta'ala
plant us in the masjid. May Allah subhanahu
wa ta'ala protect us, our children, our families,
our communities, our institutions. And may Allah subhanahu
wa'ala
elevate the honor of the Muslims and protect
those that are oppressed, specifically our brothers and
sisters in Gaza. May Allah subhanahu wa'ala alleviate
them from all their difficulties.
May Allah
grant them Jannah for all of their and
may Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala take justice and
take revenge from those that have oppressed them
in equal measures in this dunya and in
the next.
