etiquettes from the Sunnah of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam. And we're also going to conclude this chapter that we're currently going through which is a chapter of relieving oneself, right how to properly correctly you know, use the bathroom, go about it from an Islamic perspective, in terms of making sure that we maintain purification of our clothes of our body and making sure that we do what is right in submission to Allah subhanho wa Tada. And so, to jump right into it inshallah, because we have a lot to cover, and salata literature is at 915. So we'll try to wrap up by nine o'clock at the absolute latest with all the questions if there are any at the end. And that

gives everyone 15 minutes to be able to make it back to the mustard Alhamdulillah for salata. lauscha at 915. So as we begin, we look at the next point that we're going to take in sha Allah witches

urinating standing up

or sitting down, what is the permissibility? What should we do what is better what is preferred within our Deen? So the origin of

relieving ourselves whether we are urinating or, you know, going number one and number two, is to sit down. And we see this in a Hadith of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam now sitting down is not necessarily sitting down like you and I sit down on the western style toilet bowls that we have nowadays. Technically, the way that the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam in this habit of the alloga and home relieve themselves was by squatting. Right, they would squat down. And I know it sounds really weird because they're like, Okay, wait a second, what are you squatting on? These? Are you sitting on the toilet bowl and squatting on it? And this is why you'll see if you go to some

countries. You know, when you arrive in the airport, you'll notice that there's a sign on the back as soon as you enter the washroom in the stall where it tells people do not stand or squat on the toilet bowl itself, right. And that's because people who are coming from the east, you know, they typically are used to squatting and they're not used to sitting on a toilet seat that is placed above a toilet bowl. And also it kind of feels really weird. Honestly, when you use the eastern style squatting, toilets, you do get used to it. I personally think that it is a more hygienic method of using the bathroom because you are not putting yourself on anything. There's no need for

everyone to share the same toilet seat while at the same time there's no bowl filled with water for whatever it is that coming that's that's going to be you know, the gravity is pulling down. It's not going to be splashing back up onto you. And so the default is to squat. And we've seen the Hadeeth of it. Shout out to her and her where she says, Whoever tells you that the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam urinated while standing.

Do not believe them. Right? Do not believe them. For he never Makana a Buddha Elijah listen so he would only urinate while sitting. Okay, so the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam in this hadith of it shout out the Allah and how she very sternly very strictly very straightforwardly advises us that she says, if someone is telling you that the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam urinated while standing, do not believe them, for the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam would only urinate while sitting or while squatting. Okay?

Now, this is really interesting because we also have a hadith that is an authentic hadith.

So generally speaking, we look at the common method of urinating or relieving oneself according to the Sunnah of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam

is for someone to squat down, and the scholars tried to understand or give some ring to it, why importance of squatting down the number one thing and we'll look at this and shut it all down and a bit but mainly it's to maintain the perfect location to maintain the purity of the clothing, purity of the body, and so that nothing splashes when someone is standing because whatever is coming from us falling at a higher distance. And of course, we're talking about men in particular, sisters, women, usually, you know, this is they're not even going to attempt this right. It is an issue that we find amongst the brothers were due to the society that we're living in and due to the norm

And the presence of urinals. You know, we see it all around us. I remember when I was a kid going to school and the first time I walked into elementary school and I was like, Oh my god, am I supposed to urinate like on the wall? This is really weird.

But then we see this contradiction.

The contradiction is in a hadith of her they follow the Allahu and which is actually an authentic hadith

that is found in Sahih al Bukhari, as well as a Muslim and also reported by Timothy unnecessary a Buddha would imagine and a Danny, so this authentic Hadith of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, and narration told to us by her they follow the Allah and where he says the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam

and I walked until we reached the dumpster. So there was a a dump area where people would bring whatever wastage, they had garbage, like we have a garbage dump today. So any wastage that they had, they would bring it there and dump it? So he was with the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, he says, I walked the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam and I walked until we reach the dumps of the people. He stood as many as any of you would stand

behind a wall and urinated I went away, but he requested me to come. Right so he was telling him Don't be shy. Don't leave, you don't have to leave. I'm just gonna urinate and he turned away from him facing a wall and the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam stood up while urinating. And so her they thought the longer answers that I went away in the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam requested him to come closer. So he says, so I approached him and stood near his back until he finished. So he stood near the back of the prophet SAW who it was, I mean, we could probably assume that he was trying to block the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam from being seen by others, right? So he was

assisting the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam in that regard. So that's one thing that now contradicts the hadith of Isha rhodiola. And so how do we reconcile between these two narrations? Because, hey, they're both very powerful, right? They both tell us. In fact, if you look at the grading,

the Hadeeth of shuttle Viola and her is found in Solon, an SAE. And chef Benny Rahim, a whole lot greeted it as authentic. It's also reported by or narrated by, sorry, reported by

Timothy and a blue magia. So it is also an authentic Hadith of the Prophet salallahu alayhi wasallam. Now, how do we reconcile? Well, the scholars say that generally speaking, the default is that we should sit down or squat down when we are relieving ourselves whether a person is going number one or number two, okay? That we squat down or sit down when relieving ourselves and that is the norm, right? That is the way it should be for the believer.

That the scholars also say that

because the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam stood up during that time or that narration of her they thought of the logo and,

and urinated that that is something that shows the permissibility of standing and urinating. So it's an indication from the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam, letting us know as Muslims that hey, it is permissible for you to stand and to urinate.

Or the scholars say, it is an indication that in a time of necessity, right, when a person is unable to sit down, because the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam was in a very dirty area, so he may have dirtied his clothes, his clothes further had he squatted down in the dumpster area in the area of the dump where he was the garbage dump. And so the scholars say that it either shows that it's permissible to do that.

But the default is to actually squat or sit down or it shows that it is permissible to do it in the time of necessity, when you fear that you may you know dirty yourself or dirty your clothing further by sitting down or squatting.

So, what is the what are the benefits of

standing up when urinating and what are the conditions so the conditions the scholars say are that first of all, that you ensure that you remain clean. Remember the Hadith of the Prophet SAW a hadith

of her they thought that the Allah and when he says that he was with the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam and he stood behind the wall and urinated instead of squatting down. So scholars say in order to ensure that we do not, you know, put any filth or any anything

It is not just any impurity touches our clothing. And the second condition is that we make sure that nobody sees us or we expose ourselves. So these are two things to keep in mind that a person doesn't stand up and urinate while people can see their private parts. And this is very common. I know that some of you are like, okay, no one ever does that. But no, it actually is very common. If you go to, you know, public bathrooms, especially when you're going in and the majority of the people around you are non Muslim, they're standing away from the wall urinating, and then they pulled her clothes up, they don't wipe themselves, they don't clean, they don't, you know, wash, they don't do

anything. In fact, most of the time, you see people walking out without even washing their hands. And they open the door with their hands. And it's just like, Yeah, not very hygienic. And this is why as Muslims, we, you know, when COVID started, it was like, okay, wash your hands regularly. The guys were like, hey, we've always been washing our hands. And we always do wash our hands. And we make sure that we always stay clean, as clean as we possibly can be.

So here's a question. And he had used a bowl of common Lady hijjah. Is it permissible for someone to stand up in urinate? For no reason? Like, can a person stand up and pee if they don't have a valid reason to actually do so?

Well, the legendary EMA the group of scholars within the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. And this is just you know, one group of scholars again, there can be many other

many other opinions that are out there. But they have concluded that

if a person stands up and urinates without having a valid reason, then they are not sinned, as in it is not a sin.

Let like in the hall.

It's not a sin, but he has contradicted the norm of the way of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam.

So, if a person does stand up and urinate without having a valid reason, then the scholars say that this person is not necessarily committing a sin, right? Can't say that it is sinful. However, this person is going against the norm of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam going back to the Hadith of the shadow, the Allah and her where she mentions that whoever tells you that the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam stood up in urinated don't trust them, don't believe them. Because the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam would would not urinate except that he was sitting down. Okay, the next thing that we'll move to in sha Allah, which Allah is

under here and stick with them, Aliyah dilemna, fear Kava, and how hijjah, the impermissibility of using the right hand when a person is in the bathroom relieving themselves. Now what do we mean here specifically, that we don't use our right hand for cleaning ourselves or wiping ourselves or washing ourselves in terms of washing or wiping or cleaning the private parts private areas of our body, rather from the Sunnah of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam is that we use our left hand in wiping the left hand in

washing, and also the left hand in relieving ourselves, right if someone needs to, and I know this is where it gets a little bit weird, but hey, this is this is part of our Deen sisters. You know, they go in they sit down, women will you know just squat or sit down? I know sisters prefer, you know, the the western toilets because it's just so much easier than squatting. But for a men, sometimes he may use his hand in order to direct the flow of the urine, right? Anyone who's changed the baby boy's diaper would know that, hey, you know what, this is kind of weird. But we need to make sure that we cover this area or you know, point the private part in a certain direction. And so

that's something that we need to keep in mind that we use the left hand when in the bathroom, when touching our private parts.

will cut out your loved one says that the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said either Bella haidakhan, fillet, Cara who be a meanie, if one of you is urinating or needs to urinate, then do not use your left hand to hold your private part. And I'm just not using the scientific terms intentionally because I know that there's probably some families sitting with their children. And so it's good to learn about this, but we'll keep it a little bit more general inshallah in terms of using the actual words in terms to specify and define certain private parts of the body. So again, the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam says in the hadith of petard or the Allah and where he says

so Allahu alayhi wa sallam if one of you has to urinate or goes

to urinate then do not hold your private parts with your right hand. And do not

wash yourself. Also known as is stingy, right? purifying yourself with water, pouring the water and washing, do not wash yourself with your right hand and do not relieve yourself in the container or the jug that is used, that has the clean water that you are going to use to wash yourself with. But do not relieve yourself or do not yet do not relieve yourself in that jug of clean pure water, whether it's a lota or a jug or a pail or some something, whatever it is that you have a bottle, do not urinate in that keep that clean and pure so that you can pour the clean water on you in order to wash yourself. Okay, so we do not use the right hand in the bathroom to clean or to wipe or to touch

our private parts, we use the left hand. Now the scholars of course go on in length and discuss this and I don't want to spend too much time on it. I think it's fairly obvious we know very well as Muslims that we use the right hand for things that are clean and pure. And that includes eating. So the scholars say you know what, there may be some sort of impurities that is still on someone's hand, if they use their left hand if they use the right hand to wash themselves and clean themselves after going to the bathroom, that there may be some impurities on their hand and they're using that hand to eat and then they get sick from it. Also that we use our right hand when greeting other

people. Right. And so it's not, it's not considered to be using our right hand to greet other people when we use that hand to clean ourselves. And this is where as Muslims, you know, we can tell the non Muslims they may watch this Rest assured when we shake your right hand with our right hand and that is technically the international norm even people who are left handed they shake with their right hand, right.

Rest assured that Alhamdulillah you know, Praise be to Allah Subhana Allah that we've learned the importance of making sure that we keep one of our hands clean from impurities. So whether it's you know, cleaning things around the house, let's say you're doing some cleaning, we use our left hand to do the cleaning, you're washing dishes, use, you know, soap and stuff like that, obviously we're going to use that. But anytime we're cleaning something as in, we're touching something that is dirty, we make sure that we use our left hand and we don't use our right hand okay.

All righty Mashallah good. So even if we don't know we should just type in I don't know. Right? Or try and guess but anyways, in order to save time, I'll go ahead and tell you what it is. Okay. First of all, Allah Subhana Allah says UD doula who be como user, well, are you ready to become a nurse? All right, Allah Subhana Allah tells us in the Quran, that he wants ease for us and he does not want things to be difficult for us. So he makes things easy for us and he does not make things difficult for us. Now if Allah Subhana Allah does not make things difficult for us. That means that there is flexibility in the way that we can do certain things within the deen of Allah within Islam. All

right, having said that,

the fact that Allah subhanho wa Taala makes things easy. How can we make is stingy easy. So what is stingy is stingy is using water. Now you may not always have one of these when you go to the bathroom wherever you go, right? So you might think to yourself, oh man, I forgot my jug or I forgot the bottle. What am I supposed to do? How am I supposed to clean myself?

Not to worry.

Because in Islam,

if you don't have this

forgot to go outside and get some stones

You can use stones.

Right? You can use stones. What do we mean by using stones? Well, at the time of the Prophet sallallahu, Alayhi, wasallam and the Sahaba on the other hand, whom they did not have toilet paper, and so they used to use stones, obviously not sharp jagad You know, he stones, but soft, smooth stones, okay, a smooth stone that is smooth, and you can use that to wipe yourself. So Allah Subhana Allah, Allah is making this Deen easy for us by showing us through the life of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam. But if you don't have water, or you don't have access to water, because remember, they're in the desert, they may not always have access to water hamdulillah nowadays, we

do have access to water, but you might not have a bottle so that you can't pour the water when you go to the bathroom. So what do you do? Well, if we can use stones, or if it was used at that time, that means we can use a secondary item that is clean and pure in order to purify ourselves or to wipe ourselves clean, after relieving ourselves in the bathroom. Therefore translating the stone into toilet paper, okay, so toilet paper is something that could be used and is permissible, a person might say, but I relieved myself and I didn't have water to perform a stingy, I can't make will do this is a common thing that we find in our community. People say I don't have water to

perform is stingy. So my Hulu is not valid. If I make Hulu, it doesn't matter, because I didn't use water to wash my private parts when performing a certain job. That's okay. That's fine.

Because you could simply wipe yourself with the toilet paper. And that is sufficient in Islam. How do we know because the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam. At times, he did not have water, and he used stone, three stones to wipe his private area clean after relieving himself thus indicating to us that it is still permissible to clean ourselves with toilet paper

and not water. So if a person uses the bathroom relieves themselves and they don't have water for whatever reason, and they simply use toilet paper and wipe their private areas clean. That is sufficient and that is considered cleaning yourself now people will say but there's still a little bit of residue that may be left. There's still a little bit you know, it's not as clean. Yes, I know. It's not as clean as Muslims. We feel like I need water. You know, we're like I need water Give me water I need water. Right? But somehow Allah the reality of it is that if we don't have water, Allah is not you know, super like strict on us that if you don't have water too bad, you

can't pray and now you can't pray so your prayers are never going to be accepted. No, that's not the way it is. Allah subhana wa Jalla made it easy and showed that to us through the Sunnah of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, we see this hadith of Abu Ghraib or the Allahu, and where he says

I was following or going along with the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam. And he told me

left to relieve himself and I was with the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam. And he was going to relieve himself. And he didn't use to look around, right, he didn't use to look left to right. So he sent him to go get some stones to clean his private area, and the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam waited for him to return. But he told her what eight out of the 11 but do not bring me a bone nor dung. Now dung is obviously you know, the,

the stool, right? The feces of an animal that when left are kept in the sun in the heat hardens, and hardened so much that it could resemble a stone. And so over the long run, he's going with the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam has to relieve himself. And so he tells about IRA Viola and go and fetch me some stones. So he waits for about IRA he goes off and gets the stones, but he tells him Do not bring me a bone. So it dried up piece of bone and do not bring me dung, which is dried feces of the animal, right?

So Abra de la and he says, I went and I came back carrying the stones in my throat as in like he had his his thought and he put the stones in his job and he carried them back. And he came next to he says so I brought I brought him stones in my job and placed them next to him. So the longer it he was on them. Then I went away. When he finished relieving himself. He used

was the stones to clean himself. Okay, so that's an indication of it being permissible to clean ourselves using the toilet paper alone and not using water and it is still okay correct and valid and you are pure even if you did not use any water to clean yourself

How many did the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam use three stones generally Okay, we'll get to that shortly. Okay. For

its danger, of course we mentioned is with water washing or cleansing ourselves with water is stitch mom is cleaning ourselves with stone.

And of course, by default that extends to anything else that is clean and pure, that you know can be used, similar to the usage of toilet paper today. The next point that will take in sha Allah to Allah is that it is disliked to do is ditch more with a bone or bones or dung, as we just mentioned. So we'll go over this very quickly in sha Allah to Allah The reason why as we see in the Hadith of the loving Masaru or the Allahu, and where he says

the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam went to relieve himself went to do basically do number two, okay, he went to,

to pass motion. That's like the actual technical term hospital term, right?

And he ordered me

to go and fetch for him and bring him fella for two or three stones.

So he says,

at the Leiden restaurant or the lava and he says, He sent to me to go get three stones. And I went, and I found two stones. And I looked around and I couldn't find anything else.

So the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam he says, so he took the two stones, and he threw away the growth the dump

and he said, sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, the helix, this is impure, right? This is impure. And then a hadith of Abba right out of the Allahu and that we just finished taking right before this Hadeeth we also see the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam told him Do not bring me a bone or dung, right dried up feces of the animal.

bone or dung? And he says that Allahu Allahu wa sallam whom I mean biomol Jin, that both of those items are from the food items or are from food of the jinn. What in attorney was done was do gene

You know, you think to yourself, Well, if they're creation of a lodge, shouldn't they need to eat right? Do they need to eat? Yes, they do need to eat, they came in they asked the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam. And he may do out for them. He may do out to Allah subhanho wa Taala for them that when they come across a bone, so this is why when we are done

eating, you'll see this in the Arabian Peninsula, when you're done eating, for example, rice and you have the lamb and you know the bones that are left over.

What the Sahaba of the local home would do is they would take them and place them outside at a distance. Because now what happens is a loss of hanaway to Allah in the way that Allah works. He provides food for the jinn through those bones that are there. As in you can think of it as Allah replenishes or places back flesh on

To those bones for the gym to eat from, remember from amongst the jinn are those who believe as well. So don't think like, oh my god ginger engine, right? Think to yourself that, you know, this is a creation of Allah subhanaw taala, they need food as well they need to eat. And so

this is the method that is available to them to find food through the door of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam asking Allah Subhana Allah, therefore using that is not permissible.

And by default, now,

if that is something that's not permissible for us to use when wiping ourselves after relieving ourselves in the bathroom, then we shouldn't use anything else that is that is to be respected. For example, using newspapers that may have something good that's written on it, or using, you know, just random pieces of paper, that may even have the name of a last minute data on it is of the UN on it had either the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam on it in whatever language it may be, you know, it may be written there and so out of respect, we use either the water the stones, or,

or what?

Toilet paper hamdulillah Hamdulillah, for the creation or for us, as human beings having come across this idea of toilet paper.

And this is why you notice that when COVID-19 hit, everyone was going wild buying toilet paper. Why? Because everyone was like, Hey, we need to clean ourselves. And that's the only thing that we know how to use, but Alhamdulillah for the Muslims, we know that as long as we have water, we're good to go hamdulillah Alright, the second The last thing that we're going to take in shalom to Allah. So I want you to start thinking of your questions now because we have two more things that we're going to cover, and then we'll open it up for q&a. So the second last thing that we'll cover is is the stigma withdrawn.

It is encouraged and preferred islamically when we are wiping ourselves not with water, but with toilet paper, for example, that we wipe three times. Or if we need to wipe more than three times with toilet paper that we make sure that we are wiping in an odd number.

So yeah, take it easy. Don't overdo it the toilet paper. Okay. Um

it just reminded me of a good friend of mine some while I was traveling with him once we were in another country went to use the bathroom and we got in and usually you just take some toilet paper and you wet it, you know as a man and you go in and you can use that to just wipe yourself. After use the dry toilet paper use a little bit of wet toilet paper. So a friend of mine went in and

he takes the roll of toilet paper and he starts to like wrap it all around his head. Like

going like this. I'm like Yo bro, Mashallah. How much toilet paper do you need? He goes, so this is what I do. He's like when I got to go number two, and I don't have one of these with water. He's like, I need to make sure that I wipe clean. But he says what I do is I wrap it around my hand and I soak it so he goes he went to the sink and he drenched it and then he went into the bathroom. I mean he does is he squeezes it

so that the water drips down and he can wipe himself you know with that with the water first of all right? He can clean himself with the water by squeezing, squeezing, squeezing out all the toilet paper and then use that wet toilet paper to clean himself more and then use some dry toilet. Pamela you know, I was like med bro that's a lot of toilet paper man. You don't need to go that distance, but a lot of search the way it is, you know some people have sensitivities towards certain things. So the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said in the hadith of salmaan or the Allahu and he says layyah stingy haidakhan be Duna Salah 30 that one of you is not to perform a stingy

except with three stones as in when you're performing in stitch mode or you're cleaning yourself basically that you have three stones also we see hadith of Abu hurayrah

The last one where he says either stage one failure stage near withdrawn. Now, of course, you know, generally people are not going in there and having conversations, but you do find that it is sometimes very common. You know, we live in North America, you go into the bathroom, sometimes you find people sitting in there having a conversation with the person in the stall next to them. And it's like just totally cool, then it's all right. It's all good. But it isn't. It's not ugly, we're to go in there. Remember, it's a place of the gin. It's a place that the the evil spirits like it's a place that is dirty, and we are to stay clean and purify ourselves. Also, the angels are shy to go into the area where we shower and where we relieve ourselves because

our clothing is going to be removed, and our bodies may be exposed so that the angels are shy to come into that area. Now what happens is, is that when we speak when we're in the bathroom, remember there's an angel here that's writing and there's an angel here that's writing, right? So these two angels now need to write. Now they wait outside for us. When we go in and we start speaking they got to come in and start writing.

So this is why it's encouraged to just don't speak when you're in the bathroom. Okay, out of respect for the angels. And also to make sure that we are not going in there spending more time doing what we shouldn't be doing. And we see in the Hadith of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam Hadees even armored, unavoidable and Manuel what I saw the law he sallallahu alayhi wa sallam. But spamela You know, that's a time where it's permissible to speak when in the bathroom for a necessity other than something that is a necessity we should not speak in the bathroom, while relieving ourselves. And that brings us to the end of this chapter.

hamdulillah I wish we were doing these classes in person in the masjid like we used to, I miss the five or 600 people that would attend every Friday. I miss getting out over 100 chocolate bars every Friday to the children that do come.

I miss, you know, seeing how happy everyone is. On the Friday getting a cup of tea, you know, some super hot, spicy some Oh says sometimes some cookies. I miss seeing that and I miss the community coming out.

And we spoke about the bathroom setup, where the toilet is, when you're using the toilet, that's technically the place that you're not allowed to speak or you need to basically say you're going in and coming out. But your sink is in the bathroom in North America, it's just the way our bathrooms are. And so we don't consider the entire bath room to be the bathroom. We consider the space where the toilet is we're using your toilet with an invisible barrier around it to be the place that

you refrain from making with or showering or anything that that's the place that you go to to relieve yourself. So go back and watch last week's
