Suhaib Webb – Uqud alJum’an of Sheikh alIslam, Selim alBishri (Lesson Seven) Prophethood

asked, like, where can they find this text?

SubhanAllah. Even in the Arabic,

this is the only nuschah that I know

of,

which is very frustrating. Right? Because, Sheikh Salim

al Bishri,

like, really did a great service to Islam

and Muslims.

And even in this print,

I'm noticing some mistakes.

So I hope maybe one day,

Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala, Yes Sir Lina Al

Amra. I can go to Egypt and try

to find the original, maybe make a photocopy

of it, and then I would feel comfortable

printing it,

in the sense of a translation or an

actual publication. As for this, I'm more than

happy to, like,

take pictures and share it with brothers and

sisters as I've done as a PDF. Like

it's an Amana.

If we ask Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala, you

know, 70%

of the Mahdul taught,

you know, the handwritten documents. I was told

by a teacher

They haven't seen the latter day, man.

So it's a lot there, SubhanAllah.

But we reach now the section on prophethood.

Prophethood is very important.

There is an essential need for prophecy and

prophethood

because prophets,

explain to us

revelation,

and of course, the final prophet Muhammad Sallallahu

Alaihi Wasallam are

sealing the deal for us, Telling us everything

we need to know as we prepare for

the hereafter.

As he mentioned that he and the hereafter

are like this close.

Salallahu alaihi wasalam.

From Mabhad

and Nobuwat.

Right? The section discussing

presenting our beliefs as Muslims about prophets, which

are very different

than all other religions. And I can tell

when a Muslim hasn't studied

formally,

not not for scholarship,

but for functional literacy.

When they say things like, well, we and

the other religions are exactly the same. It's

kinda like,

no. We're not. Like, respectfully, we're not.

Right? That's a sign that they're being informed

by something else. There's a context to that

statement. We don't wanna judge people to say

that, of course, but we wanna make sure

that we provide them an opportunity to learn,

right, in a comfortable way.

So he says,

He says it is it is an obligation

for you and I, if we're are Muslims,

as Muslims,

to believe that Allah

dispatched prophets

and sent messengers.

They gave glad tidings to those who obey

Allah

with paradise,

and they warn those

who do not obey Allah but disobey Allah

of *.

And Allah

aided them

with miracles.

And establish

clear

signs.

And everything which has been authentically

passed on to us on behalf of the

teachings of the prophets from Allah subhanahu wa

ta'ala

is the truth. We have to believe that.

And everything that they told us and informed

us about is is the truth.

You know, sometimes people say, I read this

hadith, or I I read something in the

life of the prophet, it didn't sit right

with me.

We should not project that discomfort on the

prophet

or on the teachings of the prophet

We should start with ourselves, which is very

difficult in an age

where the cult of individualism

is running rampant. Right? It's hard for me.

It's hard for everybody.

There's a great poet who said, if your

eye is infected,

don't blame the painter.

If your tongue is infected,

don't blame the chef.

Right? So it's important that we are vulnerable

and honest. Maybe I'm not understanding something here,

you know, I should ask and try to

learn more and not just immediately rush to

a quick judgment. SubhanAllah.

And these Prophets

commanded faith

and commanded

uncompromisingly

obedience to Allah.

And they prohibited

us

from disbelief

and sin.

And that Allah

sealed

the prophets,

completed

prophecy

with Sayidina Muhammad sallallahu alaihi wasallam.

One time I ran into some Ahmadi

followers

at

a MSA event or somewhere, and they were

telling me in Surat Al Ahzab,

Allah says

He doesn't say

So they started to try to break down

the epistemological

meaning of

and they said, but if it said

then that would be Muhammad Alaihi Salam

is the seal of the prophets.

So,

you know,

with my my

very, you know,

minute knowledge of

I said to them, well, there is the

qira of Abi Amr Abbasri.

There is

the

of Abi Amr Abbasri.

And then

and they became very angry at me, you

know, and they accused me of, oppressing and

wanting to kill. I said, I don't I

don't wanna kill anybody, man. I just call

you to Allah and to Rasulullah,

sallallahu alayhi wa sallam. Don't project again on

me. So already you've projected and understanding what

which is wrong on the Quran,

and now you're projecting on me and saying,

I've

never

ever, alhamdulillah,

assaulted anybody in the name of my religion.

Don't let people project things on you, man.

Don't get defensive.

Just say you're projecting on me this is

not true.

So he says,

He says, Sayyidina Muhammad

sealed

prophecy,

completed prophecy with Muhammad,

alayhi salatu salam.

The imam of guidance,

the leader of those people who will be

illuminated, meaning his ummah, we ask

Today, today, hamdullah, is

the day of Mawlid of the prophet salallahu

alaihi wa sallam.

And there are, you know,

a lot of beautiful things to be said.

You know, people attack people for loving Muhammad

salallahu alayhi wasalam. Even now, some of our

Muslim brothers who are passionate and they they

they love the sunnah, but sometimes passion is

a problem,

They attack the lovers of the prophet salallahu

alaihi wasalam.

Ahmad shoki said,

Ahmed Shawqi said in his,

oh, you who blame me for my

insane love.

But love is qadr.

If you were to experience

what I experienced with Muhammad sallallahu alaihi wa

sallam,

you would not blame me nor would you

try to, like, invoke justice on me.

For those people who love the prophet

That's

the

love

that takes people to Jannah.

In his explanation actually of that poem, Sheikh

Salim al Bishri mentions the story of Majnun

al Layla

to show this kind of love, shawq to

Sayyidina Muhammad.

You will not complete your iman till you

love me more than everything.

Of

course, the ulama said this hadith is based

on niya, not al amal, because the amal

will be impossible for a person. But just

to have the niyah to love the prophet

more.

But SubhanAllah,

Majnoonah Layla,

he

was deeply in love with this woman, Leila.

And there's a story that says they decided

to take him to the Kaaba,

and he would seek to baruq, you know,

with the Kaaba,

and then ask Allah by the barakah of

the Kaaba, which is in the

to, you know, remove this unhealthy love.

So

so they took him to the Kaaba,

and then they said, You Allah, You Allah,

make dua. I said, Allahu Hazid Ni Hubbal

Layla. Allahu Hazid

Ni Hubbal Layla. Oh Allah, increase me in

my love of Layla, oh Allah, they said,

don't say that, don't say that.

And he said,

He said, to to suffer

for the one you love

is not an injury.

You know, in what's right and what's good,

like, you know, we sacrifice for our children,

right? Not to the point we destroy ourselves,

of course. We sacrifice for our friends, for

our spouses,

for the ummah, halas,

tudhhiayani.

Allahumazidnihubalayla.

So

loving the prophet

So brothers, you know, those of you who

don't follow, don't wanna celebrate, take it easy

on the lovers of the prophet sallallahu alaihi

wa sallam. It's out of love. You don't

do it out of love, they do it

out of love.

We're gonna talk about this next time, but

the sheikh says that Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala,

we believe he gave every prophet a miracle

which

was in the proper cultural context of the

people that their prophet was sent to.

As for us to think about now here

in Harlem, New York City,

you know, in Manhattan,

what is culturally

what can I

employ to bring people back to Allah?

Whether you're in the Midwest, you know, whether

you're at the gym, whether you're in Europe,

whether you're in a Muslim country.

What what is the

pulse of society that you can

employ

to create entry points to Allah

To show the beauty of Allah, the beauty

of his deen.
