First of all, assalamu alaikum

00:01:26 --> 00:01:26

to everybody,

00:01:27 --> 00:01:30

And welcome all of our Swiss members from

00:01:30 --> 00:01:31

the to tonight's brief program,

00:01:32 --> 00:01:34

as well as those of you online

00:01:34 --> 00:01:36

who are, with us on Instagram as well

00:01:36 --> 00:01:38

as TikTok and other places. First of all,

00:01:38 --> 00:01:40

I wanna thank our volunteers at Swiss

00:01:41 --> 00:01:43

who have made this possible.

00:01:44 --> 00:01:46

And secondly, I want to as the prophet

00:01:47 --> 00:01:48

he did with the Sahaba,

00:01:49 --> 00:01:50

Give everyone,

00:01:51 --> 00:01:52

the greetings

00:01:53 --> 00:01:56

and excitement of a blessed month of Ramadan,

00:01:56 --> 00:01:57

which is coming.

00:01:58 --> 00:02:00

What I wanted to talk about first and

00:02:00 --> 00:02:02

foremost is the statement of the prophet

00:02:02 --> 00:02:03

who

00:02:04 --> 00:02:06

said, as related by

00:02:07 --> 00:02:09

and Muslim from Abu Hurayra, that whoever believes

00:02:09 --> 00:02:11

in Allah in the last day

00:02:11 --> 00:02:13

must be generous to his or her guest.

00:02:14 --> 00:02:15

And this is actually the quality of the

00:02:15 --> 00:02:16

believer

00:02:16 --> 00:02:19

to be open and welcoming and generous to

00:02:19 --> 00:02:22

guest. This was the way of the prophets.

00:02:22 --> 00:02:23

Allah mentions

00:02:24 --> 00:02:24

in the Quran,

00:02:25 --> 00:02:28

how prophet Ibrahim, alayhis salatu sallam, was extremely

00:02:28 --> 00:02:29

generous.

00:02:30 --> 00:02:32

And, also, this was the way of the

00:02:32 --> 00:02:33

companions of the prophet

00:02:37 --> 00:02:39

When Abu Abu Ayyub Al Ansari

00:02:41 --> 00:02:43

came to Iraq, and at that time, Saydna

00:02:43 --> 00:02:43

Ali

00:02:44 --> 00:02:46

had made Said ibn Abbas

00:02:47 --> 00:02:49

the governor of of that

00:02:50 --> 00:02:51

that city

00:02:52 --> 00:02:52

And

00:02:53 --> 00:02:55

but I love you too, man. And

00:02:57 --> 00:02:58

when Ibabas

00:02:59 --> 00:03:01

became aware that Abu Abu Ayub Al Ansari

00:03:01 --> 00:03:01

was

00:03:03 --> 00:03:03

there,

00:03:04 --> 00:03:07

he welcomed him and he, like, lavishly

00:03:08 --> 00:03:09

greeted him.

00:03:09 --> 00:03:11

And he fed him, and he cared for

00:03:11 --> 00:03:13

him, and he nurtured him.

00:03:13 --> 00:03:16

And then Abu Ayub Al Ansari, he was

00:03:16 --> 00:03:18

shocked, you know, at his his Ikram.

00:03:19 --> 00:03:21

And he said to him, why are you

00:03:21 --> 00:03:23

being so generous to me?

00:03:23 --> 00:03:25

And he said, because he welcomed the prophet

00:03:26 --> 00:03:27

to Medina.

00:03:33 --> 00:03:36

As you were generous to the messenger of

00:03:36 --> 00:03:36

Allah,

00:03:37 --> 00:03:39

I I want to be generous to you.

00:03:39 --> 00:03:40

So with that in mind, we have a

00:03:40 --> 00:03:42

guest that's coming in a few days.

00:03:44 --> 00:03:46

And this is the blessed month of Ramadan.

00:03:46 --> 00:03:49

And so we want to think about welcoming

00:03:49 --> 00:03:51

this month in the proper way. If we

00:03:51 --> 00:03:53

have children, we should be building up this

00:03:53 --> 00:03:55

moment. Today, I bought, like, my youngest daughter

00:03:55 --> 00:03:56

a prayer dress,

00:03:56 --> 00:03:58

you know, that I plan to give her

00:03:58 --> 00:03:59

on the 1st night of Ramadan

00:04:00 --> 00:04:01

as a gift just to say,

00:04:01 --> 00:04:03

you know, I don't expect her to pray.

00:04:03 --> 00:04:04

She's only 4.

00:04:04 --> 00:04:06

But just to build up that excitement and

00:04:06 --> 00:04:07

to tie Ramadan

00:04:08 --> 00:04:09

into this moment.

00:04:10 --> 00:04:11

I also know some of my teachers

00:04:12 --> 00:04:14

when when the month of Ramadan would come,

00:04:14 --> 00:04:16

and they would take their children out before

00:04:16 --> 00:04:18

Taraweeh, and they would buy them, like, ice

00:04:18 --> 00:04:19

cream

00:04:20 --> 00:04:21

or some kind of sweet

00:04:21 --> 00:04:22

so that they will

00:04:23 --> 00:04:23

tie

00:04:24 --> 00:04:26

this month of Ramadan into something

00:04:27 --> 00:04:27

which is

00:04:28 --> 00:04:30

delightful, something which brings happiness.

00:04:30 --> 00:04:32

As Allah says in the Quran,

00:04:35 --> 00:04:37

We're not happy in the shallow way of

00:04:37 --> 00:04:38

happiness.

00:04:39 --> 00:04:40

We're happy that Allah

00:04:41 --> 00:04:42

has chosen us

00:04:43 --> 00:04:45

to experience this month

00:04:45 --> 00:04:46

and chosen us

00:04:47 --> 00:04:48

to worship him.

00:04:49 --> 00:04:50

That's why the Quran says,

00:04:52 --> 00:04:53

Like, this is what people should

00:04:54 --> 00:04:56

celebrate. This is what people should be happy

00:04:56 --> 00:04:57

with. That Allah

00:04:58 --> 00:05:00

has put them in the

00:05:02 --> 00:05:04

that Allah has chosen them to be in

00:05:04 --> 00:05:05

this month.

00:05:06 --> 00:05:06

Allah

00:05:08 --> 00:05:10

shows us something very beautiful. It's like in

00:05:10 --> 00:05:13

Arabic that oftentimes when something is, like, really

00:05:13 --> 00:05:14

important,

00:05:15 --> 00:05:15

it will be embellished.

00:05:16 --> 00:05:17

It's called

00:05:18 --> 00:05:18

with.

00:05:21 --> 00:05:24

The speaker will sometimes engage in embellishment

00:05:25 --> 00:05:28

to show the importance of something. A beautiful

00:05:28 --> 00:05:30

example is prophet Musa,

00:05:33 --> 00:05:33

who

00:05:33 --> 00:05:35

when he in Subtaha,

00:05:36 --> 00:05:36

Allah

00:05:37 --> 00:05:38

asked him,

00:05:38 --> 00:05:40

what's in your hand?

00:05:43 --> 00:05:43

Musa.

00:05:44 --> 00:05:45

What's in your hand?

00:05:47 --> 00:05:49

It's my staff. But then,

00:05:49 --> 00:05:52

Saydna Musa, he starts to talk about a

00:05:52 --> 00:05:53

staff like

00:05:53 --> 00:05:56

it's the most expensive thing in the world.

00:05:56 --> 00:05:57

Like, it's something unimaginable.

00:05:58 --> 00:06:00

Like, who will talk about a staff like

00:06:00 --> 00:06:01

this?

00:06:03 --> 00:06:03

This

00:06:05 --> 00:06:07

is my staff that I rest on,

00:06:08 --> 00:06:09

and I use it

00:06:09 --> 00:06:11

to look after my flock.

00:06:13 --> 00:06:15

And I have so many more uses for

00:06:15 --> 00:06:16

it.

00:06:17 --> 00:06:20

This is called Itmab. Why would prophet Musa

00:06:21 --> 00:06:23

in that moment when he's talking to Allah

00:06:24 --> 00:06:25

go into so much detail

00:06:26 --> 00:06:28

to talk about the staff

00:06:28 --> 00:06:30

because he's talking to Allah.

00:06:31 --> 00:06:32

And the opportunity

00:06:33 --> 00:06:33

to talk to

00:06:34 --> 00:06:37

Allah if anyone would have that opportunity,

00:06:37 --> 00:06:39

they will not run out of words.

00:06:40 --> 00:06:41

They will not run out run out of

00:06:41 --> 00:06:43

things to say. And you and I,

00:06:43 --> 00:06:46

when we make dua, we have that same

00:06:46 --> 00:06:46

opportunity.

00:06:47 --> 00:06:49

Also, when Musa, he makes dua,

00:06:49 --> 00:06:50

he says,

00:06:51 --> 00:06:53

oh, Allah, expand me. It's enough because if

00:06:53 --> 00:06:54

you say,

00:06:54 --> 00:06:55

it means everything.

00:06:56 --> 00:06:59

Everything that in my life, in my heart,

00:06:59 --> 00:07:01

in my mind, in my knowledge, in my

00:07:01 --> 00:07:02

work,

00:07:03 --> 00:07:04

expand me. But he continues.

00:07:07 --> 00:07:09

Oh, Allah, expand my heart.

00:07:10 --> 00:07:12

Expand my iman. Why he wants to embellish

00:07:12 --> 00:07:13

this dua?

00:07:13 --> 00:07:16

Because of this lucky moment

00:07:16 --> 00:07:18

that he has to speak to Allah.

00:07:21 --> 00:07:23

So the point is that sometimes in the

00:07:23 --> 00:07:24

Quran,

00:07:25 --> 00:07:26

and this should be noted in the English

00:07:26 --> 00:07:29

language for people to pay attention to because

00:07:29 --> 00:07:31

there is a very important tarabiya

00:07:31 --> 00:07:32

lesson from this.

00:07:33 --> 00:07:34

That in moments of goodness

00:07:35 --> 00:07:37

and that in moments where there's an opportunity

00:07:37 --> 00:07:38

to worship Allah

00:07:40 --> 00:07:41

we should

00:07:41 --> 00:07:42

extend

00:07:42 --> 00:07:43

ourselves

00:07:43 --> 00:07:45

and push ourselves to do more.

00:07:46 --> 00:07:48

The same thing happens when

00:07:49 --> 00:07:51

Allah talks about the month of Ramadan. It's

00:07:51 --> 00:07:51

embellished.

00:07:52 --> 00:07:54

And that's why I made this point. Because

00:07:54 --> 00:07:57

when something is embellished in a positive way,

00:07:57 --> 00:07:59

it is meant to highlight its importance.

00:07:59 --> 00:08:03

Just like prophet Musa embellishes this opportunity to

00:08:03 --> 00:08:04

speak to Allah, the ma'am

00:08:05 --> 00:08:06

to to speak to god

00:08:08 --> 00:08:09

So

00:08:09 --> 00:08:10

Allah says,

00:08:13 --> 00:08:15

fasting has been prescribed for you.

00:08:15 --> 00:08:16

Then

00:08:16 --> 00:08:17

in verse,

00:08:19 --> 00:08:20

185,

00:08:23 --> 00:08:25

he says, Ramadan, the month of Ramadan. Now

00:08:25 --> 00:08:27

he begins to embellish

00:08:27 --> 00:08:29

what is a siam, what is fasting.

00:08:31 --> 00:08:32

Quran

00:08:33 --> 00:08:34

in which the Quran was sent.

00:08:35 --> 00:08:36

Quran

00:08:40 --> 00:08:42

It is a guidance for people.

00:08:43 --> 00:08:44

And it is

00:08:45 --> 00:08:45

offering

00:08:46 --> 00:08:48

them not only guidance, but then the signs

00:08:48 --> 00:08:49

of the truth.

00:08:51 --> 00:08:53

And that it is a time, the Quran

00:08:53 --> 00:08:55

and this month, that will

00:08:56 --> 00:08:57

distinguish between truth and falsehood.

00:08:58 --> 00:09:00

If you think about what I just said,

00:09:00 --> 00:09:01

we understand now the blessings of the month

00:09:01 --> 00:09:02

of Ramadan

00:09:02 --> 00:09:05

and the messings the blessings of the Quran

00:09:05 --> 00:09:08

and the sunnah of the prophet. Number 1,

00:09:08 --> 00:09:08

guidance.

00:09:09 --> 00:09:11

Many people have

00:09:11 --> 00:09:13

embraced Islam. This year, I saw a brother

00:09:13 --> 00:09:14

today in the mosque. He

00:09:15 --> 00:09:16

embraced Islam

00:09:17 --> 00:09:17

brother Chase

00:09:18 --> 00:09:20

right before the month of Ramadan. How

00:09:21 --> 00:09:21

Allah

00:09:22 --> 00:09:24

chose him, you know, to be a Muslim

00:09:24 --> 00:09:25

right before Ramadan.

00:09:26 --> 00:09:28

But after guidance, we need

00:09:29 --> 00:09:30

sometimes

00:09:32 --> 00:09:34

signs that will help us stay on that

00:09:34 --> 00:09:35

guidance. That's.

00:09:36 --> 00:09:38

And then after we find those signs and

00:09:38 --> 00:09:40

we we start to live our life according

00:09:40 --> 00:09:41

to the truth,

00:09:41 --> 00:09:43

we we may find that our lives moments

00:09:43 --> 00:09:44

of confusion,

00:09:45 --> 00:09:47

moments of ambiguity. So we need.

00:09:48 --> 00:09:50

We need things to be clear. So the

00:09:50 --> 00:09:52

month of Ramadan and the Quran and the

00:09:52 --> 00:09:53

sunnah of the prophet

00:09:54 --> 00:09:56

give us these three things, guidance,

00:09:57 --> 00:09:59

clear signs that we can we can maintain

00:09:59 --> 00:10:02

our life too, And then finally,

00:10:02 --> 00:10:03

a criterion

00:10:04 --> 00:10:07

when things become confusing like now in difficult

00:10:07 --> 00:10:07

times.

00:10:08 --> 00:10:10

What I wanna talk to you about to

00:10:10 --> 00:10:13

you tonight are some things that I will

00:10:13 --> 00:10:14

build on over the month,

00:10:14 --> 00:10:17

of Ramadan here on my social media platforms.

00:10:18 --> 00:10:21

If Allah blesses me to live that long.

00:10:22 --> 00:10:24

And that are 5 things that I want

00:10:24 --> 00:10:26

you to think about briefly. I'm not gonna

00:10:26 --> 00:10:28

take too much of your time.

00:10:30 --> 00:10:32

The best speech is brief and short. And

00:10:32 --> 00:10:34

then over the month of Ramadan, I will

00:10:34 --> 00:10:36

build on these. And then if you're in

00:10:36 --> 00:10:38

the Maryland DC area every Wednesday night and

00:10:38 --> 00:10:40

then the last 10 nights, I will be

00:10:40 --> 00:10:41

at the Dienet Center,

00:10:42 --> 00:10:44

and I will build on these even more.

00:10:45 --> 00:10:46

The first

00:10:47 --> 00:10:47

sort of

00:10:48 --> 00:10:50

principle that we wanna think about is that

00:10:50 --> 00:10:52

these are five principles of tarbia. Like, how

00:10:52 --> 00:10:54

are you gonna go into the month

00:10:55 --> 00:10:56

hungry for food,

00:10:56 --> 00:10:58

longing for caffeine?

00:10:59 --> 00:11:00

And what you wanna be able to do

00:11:00 --> 00:11:01

and what I want to be able to

00:11:01 --> 00:11:03

do is to leave the month

00:11:04 --> 00:11:06

hungry and longing for Allah.

00:11:06 --> 00:11:08

And that's really the important lesson of the

00:11:08 --> 00:11:09

month of Ramadan.

00:11:10 --> 00:11:11

As we'll talk about in a second in

00:11:11 --> 00:11:13

our second principle of tarbiyah,

00:11:14 --> 00:11:17

How do I push in thinking about how

00:11:17 --> 00:11:18

how am I going to leave this? How

00:11:18 --> 00:11:19

am I going to leave that? How am

00:11:19 --> 00:11:21

I going to stop this? How am I

00:11:21 --> 00:11:23

going to stop that? And at the end

00:11:23 --> 00:11:24

of the month, you wanna say to yourself,

00:11:25 --> 00:11:27

how could I possibly stop praying?

00:11:28 --> 00:11:32

How could I possibly stop caring about people?

00:11:32 --> 00:11:35

How could I possibly stop being generous?

00:11:36 --> 00:11:38

How could I possibly stop reciting the Quran?

00:11:39 --> 00:11:40

How could I possibly stop

00:11:41 --> 00:11:42

remembering Allah?

00:11:43 --> 00:11:45

How could I possibly stop those things going

00:11:45 --> 00:11:46

to the masjid, for example?

00:11:47 --> 00:11:49

Because I came into the month hungry for

00:11:49 --> 00:11:50

the dunya,

00:11:51 --> 00:11:53

and I leave the month

00:11:53 --> 00:11:54

hungry for the.

00:11:55 --> 00:11:56

So what I wanna talk to you briefly

00:11:57 --> 00:12:00

are 5 principles of tarbia. The word tarbia

00:12:00 --> 00:12:02

is from a word which means to grow

00:12:02 --> 00:12:03

a seed, to cultivate a seed.

00:12:04 --> 00:12:05

And what we wanna think about is how

00:12:05 --> 00:12:08

do we cultivate our hearts and our minds

00:12:08 --> 00:12:10

and our actions in the month of Ramadan

00:12:10 --> 00:12:11

so we can

00:12:12 --> 00:12:14

have the fruit of this month, the blessings

00:12:14 --> 00:12:15

of this month,

00:12:16 --> 00:12:18

the rewards of this month so that we

00:12:18 --> 00:12:20

retain them after the month of Ramadan.

00:12:21 --> 00:12:22

So the

00:12:22 --> 00:12:24

first is to act on the Quran

00:12:25 --> 00:12:26

and to act on the sunnah of the

00:12:26 --> 00:12:29

prophet salaihi sallam and to develop and cultivate

00:12:29 --> 00:12:32

a daily relationship with the book of Allah

00:12:32 --> 00:12:32

Subhanahu

00:12:34 --> 00:12:36

Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala says to the prophet,

00:12:38 --> 00:12:41

recite. And and is from a word which

00:12:41 --> 00:12:42

means to follow.

00:12:44 --> 00:12:46

So I'm reciting the Quran, but I'm reciting

00:12:46 --> 00:12:47

the Quran

00:12:47 --> 00:12:49

to act on the Quran.

00:12:49 --> 00:12:52

I'm reciting the Quran to translate the Quran

00:12:52 --> 00:12:55

into my life. I'm reciting the Quran and

00:12:55 --> 00:12:57

developing a relationship with the Quran in the

00:12:57 --> 00:12:59

month of Ramadan to be whole again,

00:13:00 --> 00:13:01

to be complete.

00:13:01 --> 00:13:04

That's why the word Quran, the strong opinion

00:13:04 --> 00:13:05

of the scholars is from a word which

00:13:05 --> 00:13:06

means to be whole,

00:13:07 --> 00:13:09

especially if we've lost someone. We see our

00:13:09 --> 00:13:12

brother, Manzanir, who lost his son,

00:13:12 --> 00:13:14

16 year old son, just

00:13:14 --> 00:13:16

a little over a few weeks ago. We

00:13:16 --> 00:13:18

pray that Allah will give his son

00:13:18 --> 00:13:20

and give him Jannah and give

00:13:20 --> 00:13:23

and his amazing wife patience and make dua

00:13:23 --> 00:13:25

for their son. That Allah will make him

00:13:25 --> 00:13:26

from the people of Jannah, and that Allah

00:13:26 --> 00:13:28

will reunite them

00:13:29 --> 00:13:31

in Jannah. And still, he's here tonight for

00:13:31 --> 00:13:32

this gathering,

00:13:33 --> 00:13:35

still he's here tonight for this gathering.

00:13:35 --> 00:13:37

How do I come out of moments of

00:13:37 --> 00:13:40

tremendous loss? My wife just lost her grandmother,

00:13:40 --> 00:13:40

90

00:13:40 --> 00:13:41

7 year old,

00:13:42 --> 00:13:44

dear woman who died making dhikr, who her

00:13:44 --> 00:13:45

last few hours,

00:13:46 --> 00:13:48

she was turned to the qibla.

00:13:48 --> 00:13:49

Subhanallah.

00:13:49 --> 00:13:51

And she was unable to speak, but she

00:13:51 --> 00:13:55

could remember Allah. Subhanallah, she could remember Allah.

00:13:55 --> 00:13:57

And one of the things that we think

00:13:57 --> 00:13:58

about is how we live is how we

00:13:58 --> 00:13:59

die.

00:13:59 --> 00:14:01

Subhanallah. So how

00:14:01 --> 00:14:04

in this month I can cultivate a regular

00:14:04 --> 00:14:06

remembrance of the book of Allah subhanahu wa

00:14:06 --> 00:14:08

ta'ala. I can build capacity to be in

00:14:08 --> 00:14:11

the with the Quran because the word Quran

00:14:12 --> 00:14:13

means to join,

00:14:13 --> 00:14:15

to make whole. That's why you call it.

00:14:18 --> 00:14:19

Right? Because the is

00:14:19 --> 00:14:20

is a

00:14:21 --> 00:14:23

a a a place where people gather

00:14:24 --> 00:14:26

a village. The Quran is what is going

00:14:26 --> 00:14:28

to gather me

00:14:28 --> 00:14:31

in this dunya where I'm fractured by so

00:14:31 --> 00:14:33

many things happening. What's happening in Palestine, and

00:14:33 --> 00:14:36

we pray Allah will will will give them

00:14:36 --> 00:14:38

fat and liberation

00:14:38 --> 00:14:41

in in India, in Kashmir, in the Congo,

00:14:41 --> 00:14:43

in Sudan, in America. Wherever we are, we

00:14:43 --> 00:14:45

see fractures and pain and suffering.

00:14:46 --> 00:14:48

So we have to have relationship with the

00:14:48 --> 00:14:48

book of Allah

00:14:49 --> 00:14:51

to be whole. That's why the prophet

00:14:52 --> 00:14:53

said it as

00:14:54 --> 00:14:54

to

00:14:56 --> 00:14:57

2 things.

00:14:58 --> 00:15:00

You will never go astray as long as

00:15:00 --> 00:15:02

you hold on to them. The book of

00:15:02 --> 00:15:03

Allah and the sunnah of the prophet

00:15:04 --> 00:15:04

and the other narration,

00:15:05 --> 00:15:06

the family of the prophet

00:15:09 --> 00:15:10

So those

00:15:10 --> 00:15:12

those opportunities

00:15:13 --> 00:15:15

to be alone with the book of Allah

00:15:15 --> 00:15:17

You know, I I

00:15:17 --> 00:15:19

I had a teacher who memorized the Quran

00:15:19 --> 00:15:20

in his village.

00:15:21 --> 00:15:23

And that that teacher,

00:15:23 --> 00:15:26

he will never forget what he memorized. So

00:15:26 --> 00:15:27

I I used to be surprised, and I

00:15:27 --> 00:15:28

said to him,

00:15:29 --> 00:15:30

how is it that you have kept the

00:15:30 --> 00:15:32

Quran? And he said, because

00:15:33 --> 00:15:33

I

00:15:34 --> 00:15:35

created

00:15:36 --> 00:15:36

this

00:15:37 --> 00:15:39

love. Allah gave me this ability to create

00:15:39 --> 00:15:41

a love for his book that I memorized

00:15:41 --> 00:15:42

the Quran

00:15:42 --> 00:15:43

under the street lights.

00:15:44 --> 00:15:46

Subhanallah, he said I didn't have electricity in

00:15:46 --> 00:15:48

my home. I was so poor, but I

00:15:48 --> 00:15:50

would memorize the book of Allah subhanahu wa

00:15:50 --> 00:15:50

ta'ala

00:15:51 --> 00:15:53

under the street lights. And it was that

00:15:53 --> 00:15:53

effort

00:15:54 --> 00:15:55

that brought the barakah,

00:15:56 --> 00:15:59

was that effort that brought goodness. So the

00:15:59 --> 00:16:01

first is every day, we wanna spend a

00:16:01 --> 00:16:02

little bit of time,

00:16:03 --> 00:16:05

We want to spend a little bit of

00:16:05 --> 00:16:07

time with the book of Allah. In English,

00:16:07 --> 00:16:10

in Urdu, in Persian, in Arabic, don't worry

00:16:10 --> 00:16:13

about. Don't don't allow those kind of insecurities

00:16:13 --> 00:16:15

to fog your moment with the book of

00:16:15 --> 00:16:16

Allah.

00:16:17 --> 00:16:19

You know, I wasn't Muslim. I was not

00:16:19 --> 00:16:22

a Muslim before, and I actually read the

00:16:22 --> 00:16:24

Quran in the restroom because I was so

00:16:24 --> 00:16:26

scared of my mom. I was so terrified

00:16:26 --> 00:16:27

of my mother

00:16:27 --> 00:16:30

that I would hide the Quran in in

00:16:30 --> 00:16:32

in I didn't know. I knew no Muslims

00:16:32 --> 00:16:33

except one brother.

00:16:35 --> 00:16:38

And if I found Islam in that setting,

00:16:38 --> 00:16:41

what about you? What about others? And I

00:16:41 --> 00:16:43

wasn't reading in Arabic. I wasn't reading. I

00:16:43 --> 00:16:45

was reading the Quran. But I remember

00:16:46 --> 00:16:48

my approach to the Quran at that moment

00:16:48 --> 00:16:51

in my life was just guide me. Take

00:16:51 --> 00:16:51

me.

00:16:53 --> 00:16:55

Take my hand and lead me to the

00:16:55 --> 00:16:55

Haqq.

00:16:59 --> 00:17:01

For women who are menstruating,

00:17:01 --> 00:17:04

you can listen to the Quran. Right? Listen

00:17:04 --> 00:17:06

to the Quran. You don't have to feel,

00:17:06 --> 00:17:08

oh, I can't hold the Quran. I can't

00:17:08 --> 00:17:10

touch the Quran. No. Listen to the Quran.

00:17:10 --> 00:17:12

In fact, most of the companions of the

00:17:12 --> 00:17:13

prophet

00:17:14 --> 00:17:15

they were illiterate,

00:17:15 --> 00:17:18

so they would listen to the Quran or

00:17:18 --> 00:17:20

hear other people recite the Quran specifically

00:17:21 --> 00:17:22

in the month of Ramadan.

00:17:24 --> 00:17:26

The second component of tarbiyah that we wanna

00:17:26 --> 00:17:28

think about for this month

00:17:32 --> 00:17:33

is to peel

00:17:33 --> 00:17:34

unhealthy

00:17:34 --> 00:17:35

attachments

00:17:35 --> 00:17:36

from our heart

00:17:37 --> 00:17:38

and to peel

00:17:39 --> 00:17:39

unhealthy

00:17:40 --> 00:17:42

attachments from our minds and our actions,

00:17:43 --> 00:17:44

to to

00:17:45 --> 00:17:47

pull away from things that are distracting us

00:17:47 --> 00:17:48

from Allah.

00:17:49 --> 00:17:51

If you're busy with the ahuwal of the

00:17:51 --> 00:17:52

people

00:17:52 --> 00:17:54

to the point that you forget your own

00:17:54 --> 00:17:57

hand, this is a bad sign.

00:17:57 --> 00:18:01

Whoever's busy with the the the conditions of

00:18:01 --> 00:18:01

everyone else

00:18:02 --> 00:18:04

in a bad way, not in a positive

00:18:04 --> 00:18:06

way, and not their own condition,

00:18:07 --> 00:18:09

they don't understand the purpose of life.

00:18:09 --> 00:18:10

The prophet

00:18:11 --> 00:18:13

said the successful one is the one who's

00:18:13 --> 00:18:15

busy with hid or herself. Not that they

00:18:15 --> 00:18:15

neglect

00:18:16 --> 00:18:18

the things that are happening in the world,

00:18:18 --> 00:18:20

But I'm talking about backbiting,

00:18:20 --> 00:18:21

gossip,

00:18:21 --> 00:18:24

you know, getting into people's business, jumping into

00:18:24 --> 00:18:27

people's personal life, judging this imam, that imam,

00:18:27 --> 00:18:29

this Muslim, that Muslim, this person's bad, that

00:18:29 --> 00:18:29

person's bad,

00:18:30 --> 00:18:31

like in.

00:18:32 --> 00:18:35

But I I didn't look into myself

00:18:35 --> 00:18:36

and judge myself.

00:18:38 --> 00:18:41

That's a problem. That means that there is

00:18:41 --> 00:18:41

an unhealthy

00:18:42 --> 00:18:43

attachment.

00:18:43 --> 00:18:44

So we call it a tajreed,

00:18:45 --> 00:18:47

ma'amah tajreed in tarbiyah,

00:18:47 --> 00:18:50

that I look into my life, and I

00:18:50 --> 00:18:52

examine what are those things that are taking

00:18:52 --> 00:18:54

me away from Allah's pleasure

00:18:54 --> 00:18:57

and keeping me away from Allah, and I

00:18:57 --> 00:18:58

peel them away from myself.

00:18:59 --> 00:19:01

And I distance myself. And this is the

00:19:01 --> 00:19:03

month where there is a great opportunity to

00:19:03 --> 00:19:05

do that because even the permissible in the

00:19:05 --> 00:19:08

day became forbidden for us. That's why we

00:19:08 --> 00:19:09

say this is the month of Rabaniyah.

00:19:10 --> 00:19:11

This is the month to be the people

00:19:11 --> 00:19:12

of Allah because

00:19:13 --> 00:19:15

we are leaving even what's permissible.

00:19:16 --> 00:19:18

We are leaving what's permissible

00:19:18 --> 00:19:20

for the sake of Allah. So I remember

00:19:21 --> 00:19:22

as a new Muslim,

00:19:23 --> 00:19:25

there were so many things that first Ramadan,

00:19:26 --> 00:19:28

I was able to get rid of because

00:19:28 --> 00:19:29

they were impediments

00:19:30 --> 00:19:31

to a successful akhirah.

00:19:32 --> 00:19:34

If you're a young person, you are being

00:19:34 --> 00:19:36

bombarded, man. You're being bombarded

00:19:36 --> 00:19:38

with so many unhealthy messages,

00:19:38 --> 00:19:41

so many things that amplify your insecurity, so

00:19:41 --> 00:19:43

many things that make you so worried about

00:19:43 --> 00:19:43

yourself

00:19:44 --> 00:19:46

physically and the exterior,

00:19:47 --> 00:19:49

but you cannot forget the interior.

00:19:50 --> 00:19:51

Because Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala says,

00:19:53 --> 00:19:55

the one who comes to Allah with a

00:19:55 --> 00:19:56

pure heart is the one who will be

00:19:56 --> 00:19:57

successful.

00:19:57 --> 00:19:59

So we have to think about

00:19:59 --> 00:20:00

peeling away

00:20:01 --> 00:20:03

those things which are unhealthy. And that's why

00:20:03 --> 00:20:04

one of the great,

00:20:05 --> 00:20:06

scholars,

00:20:06 --> 00:20:07

he said,

00:20:09 --> 00:20:10

whoever

00:20:12 --> 00:20:12

doesn't

00:20:14 --> 00:20:16

weigh, who doesn't weigh his or her actions

00:20:16 --> 00:20:17

and deeds,

00:20:18 --> 00:20:19

walked at every moment

00:20:20 --> 00:20:21

with the book and the sunnah.

00:20:24 --> 00:20:27

And they do not question their bad thoughts.

00:20:31 --> 00:20:33

And that person is not considered someone who's

00:20:33 --> 00:20:34

seeking the

00:20:35 --> 00:20:36

who's seeking the

00:20:36 --> 00:20:38

So the the the first

00:20:38 --> 00:20:40

is to have relationship with the Quran.

00:20:41 --> 00:20:44

The second is to peel away unhealthy

00:20:44 --> 00:20:46

attachments that are keeping us away

00:20:47 --> 00:20:48

from the and

00:20:49 --> 00:20:50

from Allah

00:20:52 --> 00:20:54

The third is to be zuhid,

00:20:55 --> 00:20:57

is to be indifferent to the opulence of

00:20:57 --> 00:20:58

this world.

00:20:58 --> 00:21:00

And we had to be very, very careful

00:21:00 --> 00:21:01

about the

00:21:01 --> 00:21:02

monoculture,

00:21:03 --> 00:21:05

which is being shipped into our minds, in

00:21:05 --> 00:21:07

our hearts through social media. It's not social

00:21:07 --> 00:21:10

media, actually. It's a dictatorial media. We have

00:21:10 --> 00:21:12

very little control over this.

00:21:12 --> 00:21:14

And it is a trick to make us

00:21:14 --> 00:21:16

think, just look how many people since the

00:21:16 --> 00:21:17

crisis

00:21:18 --> 00:21:20

and the genocide in Palestine have been censored.

00:21:21 --> 00:21:22

How many times have you tried to comment

00:21:22 --> 00:21:24

and it says you're not allowed to post

00:21:24 --> 00:21:26

this comment? How many of us, like myself,

00:21:26 --> 00:21:29

have been shadow banned? How many of you

00:21:29 --> 00:21:31

have tried to say something which is not

00:21:31 --> 00:21:31

even inflammatory,

00:21:33 --> 00:21:34

but you've been

00:21:34 --> 00:21:36

censored. But then you find,

00:21:38 --> 00:21:39

you find people

00:21:39 --> 00:21:42

who are posting things that are against Palestine,

00:21:42 --> 00:21:44

against Arabs, against Muslims?

00:21:45 --> 00:21:46

Do you find people

00:21:46 --> 00:21:48

who are posting things against

00:21:50 --> 00:21:52

against Indian Muslims? They're not banned.

00:21:54 --> 00:21:55

So you you

00:21:55 --> 00:21:58

you have to ask yourself, is it really

00:21:58 --> 00:22:00

social media, or is it a dictatorial media

00:22:00 --> 00:22:01

that's being controlled?

00:22:02 --> 00:22:04

And within that reality, there are messages being

00:22:04 --> 00:22:06

targeted to you

00:22:06 --> 00:22:09

to create values in your mind and thought

00:22:09 --> 00:22:10

processes

00:22:10 --> 00:22:12

that will cause you to act

00:22:13 --> 00:22:15

in a way that will distance you

00:22:15 --> 00:22:17

from being a to Allah. So the month

00:22:17 --> 00:22:19

of Ramadan comes, the ultimate filter.

00:22:20 --> 00:22:23

And it allows us to expand our capacity

00:22:24 --> 00:22:26

for being indifferent to the the opulence of

00:22:26 --> 00:22:27

dunya,

00:22:27 --> 00:22:28

the zud.

00:22:29 --> 00:22:30

And there are

00:22:30 --> 00:22:31

4 foundations

00:22:32 --> 00:22:35

of zud. Four foundations that we need to

00:22:35 --> 00:22:36

work on

00:22:36 --> 00:22:38

to think about how we can be truly

00:22:38 --> 00:22:40

from those people that are considered.

00:22:40 --> 00:22:42

Isn't about being poor.

00:22:43 --> 00:22:45

Is about being somebody

00:22:47 --> 00:22:49

who is moving to the no matter what

00:22:49 --> 00:22:50

they have.

00:22:50 --> 00:22:51

And there are

00:22:52 --> 00:22:54

4 components of this.

00:22:55 --> 00:22:57

The first is silence.

00:22:58 --> 00:23:00

Doesn't mean to be overtly silent, but it

00:23:00 --> 00:23:02

means to know when to speak and know

00:23:02 --> 00:23:04

when not to speak, to avoid talking about

00:23:04 --> 00:23:07

people, to avoid backbiting people, to avoid slandering

00:23:08 --> 00:23:09

people, to avoid

00:23:09 --> 00:23:11

hateful speech. And this can be extended

00:23:12 --> 00:23:12

to our comments

00:23:13 --> 00:23:14

and how we engage

00:23:15 --> 00:23:17

people online, what type of,

00:23:18 --> 00:23:19

relationships

00:23:19 --> 00:23:22

do we exhibit with others? Are we abusive

00:23:22 --> 00:23:25

to people? Are we using, you know, a

00:23:25 --> 00:23:27

foul language? Are we, like we see some

00:23:27 --> 00:23:29

of the the the non Muslim brothers and

00:23:29 --> 00:23:31

sisters here. Some of them are egregious.

00:23:32 --> 00:23:33

Their hatred for Muslims is so much that

00:23:33 --> 00:23:35

they don't know how to control themselves.

00:23:36 --> 00:23:38

So they almost need, like, a diaper in

00:23:38 --> 00:23:39

their mouth because

00:23:39 --> 00:23:40

so much

00:23:40 --> 00:23:42

I can't say it, but so much filth

00:23:42 --> 00:23:44

comes from their mouth because they don't have

00:23:44 --> 00:23:45

the that we have.

00:23:46 --> 00:23:48

They they are not able to conform to

00:23:48 --> 00:23:51

prophetic morality. We We conform to prophetic morality.

00:23:53 --> 00:23:55

We will not be like them.

00:23:55 --> 00:23:57

So the first is silence,

00:23:58 --> 00:23:59

and that's why the prophet, sallallahu alaihi wasalam,

00:23:59 --> 00:23:59

said,

00:24:04 --> 00:24:06

whoever believes in Allah Allah in the last

00:24:06 --> 00:24:08

day should speak well or remain silent.

00:24:09 --> 00:24:10

The second foundation

00:24:11 --> 00:24:11

of

00:24:12 --> 00:24:14

in this life is hunger.

00:24:15 --> 00:24:18

And it doesn't mean hunger in an unhealthy

00:24:18 --> 00:24:20

way, but it means fasting.

00:24:20 --> 00:24:21

And so

00:24:21 --> 00:24:23

the month of Ramadan is coming. We're able

00:24:23 --> 00:24:26

to observe fasting. We're able to observe some

00:24:26 --> 00:24:28

interval moments where we will feel a little

00:24:28 --> 00:24:29

pains of hunger.

00:24:31 --> 00:24:33

And that is one of the signs of

00:24:33 --> 00:24:35

the person who is engaged in that in

00:24:35 --> 00:24:36

that

00:24:37 --> 00:24:39

with Allah and with the messenger of Allah

00:24:39 --> 00:24:40

sallahu alaihi wa sallam.

00:24:40 --> 00:24:42

The third component is

00:24:43 --> 00:24:45

used to be along with Allah.

00:24:45 --> 00:24:47

And that's very difficult now because we live

00:24:47 --> 00:24:49

in an age this is an age of

00:24:49 --> 00:24:51

exhibition. This is an age where everything has

00:24:51 --> 00:24:52

to be exhibited.

00:24:54 --> 00:24:55

And the idea of

00:24:56 --> 00:24:59

to be alone with Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala

00:24:59 --> 00:25:01

is something maybe foreign to people. But what

00:25:01 --> 00:25:03

does it mean to be alone with Allah?

00:25:03 --> 00:25:05

It means even if I'm amongst people who

00:25:05 --> 00:25:08

may be living foul, or even if I'm

00:25:08 --> 00:25:10

at work or at school, I can't abandon

00:25:10 --> 00:25:11

my responsibilities.

00:25:11 --> 00:25:13

Maybe even around my family or my friends,

00:25:14 --> 00:25:16

but I'm able to maintain my heart is

00:25:16 --> 00:25:17

only for

00:25:18 --> 00:25:20

I'm I'm able to make sure that in

00:25:20 --> 00:25:21

my heart,

00:25:22 --> 00:25:23

And

00:25:24 --> 00:25:25

this also

00:25:26 --> 00:25:28

can be extended to when you're making dua

00:25:29 --> 00:25:30

in salah,

00:25:30 --> 00:25:31

praying alone,

00:25:32 --> 00:25:34

fasting. When you're in the state of fasting,

00:25:34 --> 00:25:35

you're actually in.

00:25:37 --> 00:25:39

Allah says fasting is for me because nobody

00:25:39 --> 00:25:41

knows if you're fasting. So that is a

00:25:41 --> 00:25:43

form of being in the state of with

00:25:43 --> 00:25:44

Allah.

00:25:45 --> 00:25:45

That's why

00:25:49 --> 00:25:49

Imam says

00:25:54 --> 00:25:56

that there is no better,

00:25:56 --> 00:25:57

more more beneficial

00:25:58 --> 00:26:01

supplement for the heart than interval moments of

00:26:01 --> 00:26:01

isolation

00:26:02 --> 00:26:04

to make zikr, to make dua. You

00:26:05 --> 00:26:07

know, you don't have to put your tahajid

00:26:07 --> 00:26:09

on on Instagram live, man. You don't have

00:26:09 --> 00:26:11

to put moments where you're crying along with

00:26:11 --> 00:26:12

Allah. That's nobody else's

00:26:13 --> 00:26:15

business. That's between you and Allah. So I

00:26:15 --> 00:26:18

have a seer in this month of Ramadan,

00:26:18 --> 00:26:18

some secret

00:26:19 --> 00:26:20

between you and Allah.

00:26:21 --> 00:26:24

And I also that no one knows about

00:26:25 --> 00:26:27

so that I have this idea of. Why?

00:26:27 --> 00:26:28

Because the,

00:26:28 --> 00:26:29

that isolation

00:26:30 --> 00:26:31

breeds sincerity,

00:26:31 --> 00:26:33

and sincerity is the key to Jannah,

00:26:34 --> 00:26:35

is the key to paradise,

00:26:35 --> 00:26:37

the key to the pleasure of Allah. And

00:26:37 --> 00:26:39

you should have the intention, you Allah,

00:26:39 --> 00:26:42

I'm doing this only for you. You Allah,

00:26:42 --> 00:26:44

please accept this from me, between me and

00:26:44 --> 00:26:47

you. And since it's a gift to you

00:26:47 --> 00:26:50

from me, please amplify my rewards. Make my

00:26:50 --> 00:26:51

rewards more.

00:26:51 --> 00:26:52

The last

00:26:53 --> 00:26:55

quality of the people of Zuhit

00:26:55 --> 00:26:56

are those people who pray in the night.

00:26:56 --> 00:26:58

And we know in the month of Ramadan,

00:26:58 --> 00:26:59

this

00:26:59 --> 00:27:01

is the month of qiyam.

00:27:01 --> 00:27:02

The prophet

00:27:03 --> 00:27:03

said, whoever

00:27:04 --> 00:27:07

prays in the night with faith and hope,

00:27:07 --> 00:27:09

all of their sins will be forgiven. The

00:27:09 --> 00:27:12

majority of ulama say that means all your

00:27:12 --> 00:27:13

sins, the major and minor sins.

00:27:14 --> 00:27:15

So

00:27:17 --> 00:27:19

who prays with hope. Because sometimes when we

00:27:19 --> 00:27:20

stand to pray, we start to remember all

00:27:20 --> 00:27:23

the bad things we did. But remember this,

00:27:24 --> 00:27:25

if you were not good enough to stand

00:27:25 --> 00:27:28

in front of Allah, Allah would not have

00:27:28 --> 00:27:29

blessed you to stand in front of

00:27:29 --> 00:27:30

him. But

00:27:31 --> 00:27:32

Allah

00:27:32 --> 00:27:34

established you in that moment,

00:27:34 --> 00:27:36

so that should be enough of a means

00:27:36 --> 00:27:38

to build your confidence.

00:27:39 --> 00:27:42

So do not allow the insecurities of the

00:27:42 --> 00:27:42

past

00:27:43 --> 00:27:44

to

00:27:45 --> 00:27:47

unravel the future that Allah has showed you.

00:27:47 --> 00:27:50

Trust Allah more than you fear your insecurities.

00:27:50 --> 00:27:52

So when we pray at night,

00:27:53 --> 00:27:55

this is an opportunity to be from those

00:27:55 --> 00:27:56

people of Zuid.

00:27:57 --> 00:27:59

The last few and we'll we'll finish, quickly

00:27:59 --> 00:28:00

because I don't want to take too much

00:28:00 --> 00:28:03

of your time because we'll build over these

00:28:03 --> 00:28:04

on these over the month of Ramadan.

00:28:05 --> 00:28:07

But we're talking about the the foundational

00:28:08 --> 00:28:11

components of a transformative Ramadan. You wanna ask

00:28:11 --> 00:28:12

yourself, like,

00:28:12 --> 00:28:14

what kind of Ramadan am I gonna have,

00:28:14 --> 00:28:15

man?

00:28:16 --> 00:28:17

I need to make this a Ramadan of

00:28:17 --> 00:28:18

purpose.

00:28:18 --> 00:28:20

I need to make this a Ramadan of

00:28:20 --> 00:28:21

transformation.

00:28:21 --> 00:28:23

So the first we said is to have

00:28:23 --> 00:28:24

relationship with the Quran,

00:28:26 --> 00:28:28

and don't allow yourself to quit. Oh, well,

00:28:28 --> 00:28:30

I didn't meet read as much as I

00:28:30 --> 00:28:33

wanted to. I didn't read a 1,000 verses

00:28:33 --> 00:28:36

or I didn't read, you know, 20 pages.

00:28:36 --> 00:28:37

I didn't read this. Just

00:28:38 --> 00:28:38

read.

00:28:41 --> 00:28:43

Don't worry. Allah

00:28:45 --> 00:28:45

says

00:28:46 --> 00:28:48

Read what's easy for you from the Quran.

00:28:52 --> 00:28:54

Allah said we made the Quran easy. Don't

00:28:54 --> 00:28:56

make it hard. Don't make something hard. Allah

00:28:56 --> 00:28:56

made it easy.

00:28:57 --> 00:28:58

The second we said is

00:28:59 --> 00:29:00

to peel away

00:29:01 --> 00:29:03

things from our heart that are distractions.

00:29:04 --> 00:29:05

Like, are we spending too much time on

00:29:05 --> 00:29:07

social media? Are we spending so much time

00:29:07 --> 00:29:08

scrolling

00:29:08 --> 00:29:10

that we're not observing our worship? Am I

00:29:10 --> 00:29:12

spending too many too much time, you know,

00:29:12 --> 00:29:14

doing things that have taken me away from

00:29:14 --> 00:29:15

volunteering in the community,

00:29:16 --> 00:29:19

amplifying the situation in Palestine, in India, and

00:29:19 --> 00:29:20

other places in the world?

00:29:20 --> 00:29:22

Am I so busy with those things that

00:29:22 --> 00:29:24

I am not able to stay

00:29:25 --> 00:29:26

focused on what's the

00:29:27 --> 00:29:27

yet?

00:29:29 --> 00:29:29

3rd,

00:29:30 --> 00:29:31

he said, is to be zahid.

00:29:32 --> 00:29:34

And the month of Ramadan is a great

00:29:34 --> 00:29:37

opportunity to be indifferent to the opulence of

00:29:37 --> 00:29:39

the dunya because we're not even eating, man.

00:29:40 --> 00:29:43

We're not eating. We're not drinking. We are

00:29:43 --> 00:29:46

increasing our output and do decreasing our input.

00:29:46 --> 00:29:48

And that's why, one of the scholars,

00:29:49 --> 00:29:51

they said about fasting something so beautiful.

00:29:56 --> 00:29:58

Maybe Allah gave you, and he kept you

00:29:58 --> 00:30:01

from something. Maybe he kept you from something,

00:30:01 --> 00:30:03

and he gave you. So he learned, I

00:30:03 --> 00:30:05

don't have to have all this stuff,

00:30:05 --> 00:30:08

right, to to to really find intrinsic value.

00:30:10 --> 00:30:12

The last 3, we'll mention quickly,

00:30:12 --> 00:30:13

are to have great

00:30:15 --> 00:30:17

to have great expectations,

00:30:18 --> 00:30:20

and to have great goals for yourself that

00:30:20 --> 00:30:21

are realistic.

00:30:22 --> 00:30:24

The prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam has said,

00:30:24 --> 00:30:27

if you ask Allah, ask Allah for firdos.

00:30:28 --> 00:30:30

Ask Allah for the highest level of Jannah.

00:30:30 --> 00:30:32

So you wanna set some goals for yourself

00:30:32 --> 00:30:33

in the month of Ramadan

00:30:34 --> 00:30:37

that are slightly beyond your ability, but not

00:30:37 --> 00:30:39

too difficult to the point that they undermine

00:30:39 --> 00:30:39

you.

00:30:40 --> 00:30:42

So you wanna set some practical goals for

00:30:42 --> 00:30:44

yourself in the month that are achievable,

00:30:45 --> 00:30:47

but would challenge you. Allah says

00:30:52 --> 00:30:53

Those who strive

00:30:53 --> 00:30:54

in our way,

00:30:55 --> 00:30:57

we will open up the doors for them.

00:30:57 --> 00:30:59

So just making a little effort. Don't go

00:30:59 --> 00:31:01

into the month feeling weak.

00:31:01 --> 00:31:03

Go into the month feeling strong.

00:31:07 --> 00:31:09

Push into the month of Ramadan with a

00:31:09 --> 00:31:10

great set of aspirations.

00:31:12 --> 00:31:14

The last and we'll finish

00:31:14 --> 00:31:15

is

00:31:15 --> 00:31:16

good character.

00:31:17 --> 00:31:18

We know that the prophet

00:31:20 --> 00:31:21

the famous hadith

00:31:23 --> 00:31:26

who said whoever doesn't leave evil speech and

00:31:26 --> 00:31:27

evil actions,

00:31:27 --> 00:31:29

Allah has no need that they fast.

00:31:30 --> 00:31:32

And we know that the prophet Sallallahu alaihi

00:31:32 --> 00:31:36

wa sallam, he warned people who fast, and

00:31:36 --> 00:31:38

it's not translated into being good to others.

00:31:38 --> 00:31:39

So this is the month

00:31:40 --> 00:31:41

where the

00:31:44 --> 00:31:45

prophet he exercised

00:31:46 --> 00:31:47

tremendous generosity.

00:31:50 --> 00:31:52

And he was kind to others. So if

00:31:52 --> 00:31:55

you're in, you know, the masjid, if you

00:31:55 --> 00:31:56

are

00:31:57 --> 00:31:59

volunteering, or if you were dealing with volunteers

00:31:59 --> 00:32:00

in your community,

00:32:00 --> 00:32:01

be kind to them.

00:32:02 --> 00:32:04

Don't be harsh to them. Don't be rude

00:32:04 --> 00:32:04

to them.

00:32:06 --> 00:32:09

And this also applies again to people online.

00:32:09 --> 00:32:11

Just because you engage someone online doesn't mean

00:32:11 --> 00:32:13

they're not human. They're human. You don't know.

00:32:13 --> 00:32:15

Maybe that person that you say something nice

00:32:15 --> 00:32:17

to, maybe that person that you say something

00:32:17 --> 00:32:20

harsh to, maybe that person that you you

00:32:20 --> 00:32:22

you may be rude to,

00:32:23 --> 00:32:24

they may have had, like, the worst day

00:32:24 --> 00:32:25

of their life,

00:32:26 --> 00:32:28

man. And you may be contributing to their

00:32:28 --> 00:32:31

their their falling into a greater sense of

00:32:31 --> 00:32:33

lack of suffering. But on the other end,

00:32:33 --> 00:32:34

as Allah says,

00:32:37 --> 00:32:39

a good word is like a good tree.

00:32:39 --> 00:32:41

You may say something good, and you plant

00:32:42 --> 00:32:44

it in that person's life. And because what

00:32:44 --> 00:32:45

you said to them,

00:32:45 --> 00:32:47

it changes their day, and you get the

00:32:47 --> 00:32:48

hasanah.

00:32:48 --> 00:32:49

The prophet

00:32:50 --> 00:32:50

said

00:32:53 --> 00:32:53

Muslim.

00:32:54 --> 00:32:56

To bring happiness to a fellow Muslim

00:32:58 --> 00:32:59

will obligate for your jannah.

00:33:00 --> 00:33:02

This hadith has reached us with 13 asanid

00:33:03 --> 00:33:05

and their good hadith. So we're going to

00:33:05 --> 00:33:07

stop here. We'll take any questions that you

00:33:07 --> 00:33:08

have also. It's a lot of people on

00:33:08 --> 00:33:10

all of these sort of outlets, but I

00:33:10 --> 00:33:11

just want

00:33:11 --> 00:33:14

to rehash quickly what I talked about. I

00:33:14 --> 00:33:16

planned only to speak for 30 minutes.

00:33:17 --> 00:33:19

And that is when I was young, I

00:33:19 --> 00:33:20

could talk a lot. As you get older,

00:33:20 --> 00:33:23

you you you become more scared to speak

00:33:23 --> 00:33:23

about

00:33:24 --> 00:33:27

Subhanahu wa ta'ala. You become more careful about

00:33:27 --> 00:33:28

what you say.

00:33:28 --> 00:33:29

But number 1, we said this is a

00:33:29 --> 00:33:31

great month and we have to welcome this

00:33:31 --> 00:33:32

guest

00:33:33 --> 00:33:35

And we need to start thinking now

00:33:35 --> 00:33:38

about how we push into the month. And

00:33:38 --> 00:33:39

then

00:33:39 --> 00:33:41

I see a question, what is the meaning

00:33:41 --> 00:33:42

of the word from

00:33:42 --> 00:33:43

the word

00:33:45 --> 00:33:47

because Allah nurtures us. I don't like the

00:33:47 --> 00:33:48

translation, lord.

00:33:48 --> 00:33:50

All praise be to Allah, lord of the

00:33:50 --> 00:33:51

worlds.

00:33:51 --> 00:33:53

Is the one that nurtures you.

00:33:55 --> 00:33:55

So

00:33:56 --> 00:33:59

is the process of nurturing a seed in

00:33:59 --> 00:33:59

the ground,

00:34:00 --> 00:34:01

cultivating it, farming.

00:34:02 --> 00:34:04

So here, we're using it as a metaphor

00:34:04 --> 00:34:05

for how can I

00:34:06 --> 00:34:09

cultivate my heart and my mind in my

00:34:09 --> 00:34:11

actions in the month of Ramadan?

00:34:11 --> 00:34:12

So that

00:34:12 --> 00:34:15

I I push through the month of Ramadan,

00:34:16 --> 00:34:17

and I come out hungry for the akhirah,

00:34:17 --> 00:34:19

to come out hungry for the hereafter.

00:34:20 --> 00:34:21

And so we said there are some foundational

00:34:21 --> 00:34:23

principles. I skipped 1, and I'll mention it

00:34:23 --> 00:34:24

quickly.

00:34:24 --> 00:34:26

Number 1 is to have a relationship with

00:34:26 --> 00:34:27

revelation.

00:34:28 --> 00:34:30

To have a relationship with the source of

00:34:30 --> 00:34:31

thought,

00:34:31 --> 00:34:33

the source of feeling,

00:34:33 --> 00:34:36

the source of values is the Quran. We

00:34:36 --> 00:34:37

said that the Quran is from a word,

00:34:37 --> 00:34:39

which means to make something whole,

00:34:39 --> 00:34:41

to bring it together,

00:34:41 --> 00:34:44

and the sunnah of the prophet sallallahu alaihi

00:34:45 --> 00:34:46

wa sallam. Number 2

00:34:47 --> 00:34:50

is that a person should what we call

00:34:51 --> 00:34:54

and those Swiss students here we have in

00:34:54 --> 00:34:54

our,

00:34:55 --> 00:34:57

3rd year class on purification of the heart,

00:34:57 --> 00:34:58

the book, the hiccup.

00:34:59 --> 00:35:00

The second hicom

00:35:00 --> 00:35:01

talks about.

00:35:03 --> 00:35:04

How do I how do I remove things

00:35:04 --> 00:35:07

from my heart? And it's expressed really beautifully

00:35:07 --> 00:35:07

in Arabic

00:35:08 --> 00:35:10

by one scholar. I'm trying to speak as

00:35:10 --> 00:35:11

much English only,

00:35:12 --> 00:35:13

but he said,

00:35:20 --> 00:35:23

Don't be busy with Ariar. Ariar like from,

00:35:23 --> 00:35:25

the changes that are happening in the world.

00:35:26 --> 00:35:28

But be busy with the one, the dominant,

00:35:28 --> 00:35:29

meaning Allah.

00:35:32 --> 00:35:35

And don't become, like, overly occupied by the

00:35:35 --> 00:35:37

states and situations in the dunya.

00:35:41 --> 00:35:44

Be busy with the one who causes things

00:35:44 --> 00:35:45

to happen and happen, who causes things to

00:35:45 --> 00:35:47

change, mean, being busy with Allah.

00:35:49 --> 00:35:51

Remember me? I will remember you, the Quran

00:35:51 --> 00:35:53

says, to be busy with Allah. So how

00:35:53 --> 00:35:54

do I,

00:35:55 --> 00:35:56

peel away?

00:35:56 --> 00:35:59

Maybe it's my sense of self worth. Maybe

00:35:59 --> 00:36:00

it's

00:36:00 --> 00:36:03

body issues. Maybe I'm concerned about, you know,

00:36:03 --> 00:36:05

certain things that are really not that important.

00:36:05 --> 00:36:07

And there's a very simple thing you can

00:36:07 --> 00:36:08

do

00:36:09 --> 00:36:12

to address how to peel things that aren't

00:36:12 --> 00:36:14

important to you. Put the

00:36:14 --> 00:36:15

in the center of a circle.

00:36:16 --> 00:36:19

Put the put the hereafter in the center

00:36:19 --> 00:36:21

of a circle. And then on the first

00:36:21 --> 00:36:21

layer, put

00:36:22 --> 00:36:25

what you actually have an influence over. And

00:36:25 --> 00:36:27

then the second circle outside of that, put

00:36:27 --> 00:36:28

what you can what you're concerned about, but

00:36:28 --> 00:36:29

you can't have influence.

00:36:30 --> 00:36:33

What should be the priority in my relationship

00:36:33 --> 00:36:34

with Allah in the hereafter

00:36:34 --> 00:36:36

are those things that I can have an

00:36:36 --> 00:36:37

influence on?

00:36:38 --> 00:36:41

Myself, my family, things around me, that should

00:36:41 --> 00:36:42

be my priority.

00:36:42 --> 00:36:43

My community,

00:36:44 --> 00:36:45

how I can help, how I can assist,

00:36:45 --> 00:36:47

how I can serve others,

00:36:48 --> 00:36:50

that's things that I can do. But what

00:36:50 --> 00:36:52

I'm concerned about, like, is there water on

00:36:52 --> 00:36:52

Pluto?

00:36:53 --> 00:36:54

Why did this happen? Why is this happening?

00:36:54 --> 00:36:56

Why did I get into this grad school?

00:36:56 --> 00:36:57

Why didn't I get this job? Why did

00:36:58 --> 00:36:59

those are things beyond my control.

00:37:01 --> 00:37:02

So those are things that I I leave

00:37:02 --> 00:37:04

to Allah. So

00:37:04 --> 00:37:06

and I focus on what Allah has given

00:37:06 --> 00:37:08

me the ability to impact.

00:37:08 --> 00:37:09

That will

00:37:10 --> 00:37:12

allow me then to peel away

00:37:12 --> 00:37:14

what doesn't really matter.

00:37:16 --> 00:37:18

The third thing that we talked about is

00:37:18 --> 00:37:18

being

00:37:20 --> 00:37:22

being indifferent to the cult of opulence

00:37:23 --> 00:37:25

that the monoculture of transmodality

00:37:25 --> 00:37:26

is pushing on us.

00:37:27 --> 00:37:29

And how do we develop that indifference?

00:37:30 --> 00:37:33

We said there are 4 foundations of it.

00:37:34 --> 00:37:35

Number 1

00:37:36 --> 00:37:37

Number 1

00:37:38 --> 00:37:38

is fasting,

00:37:39 --> 00:37:40

hunger.

00:37:40 --> 00:37:41

Right?

00:37:41 --> 00:37:43

To have small moments

00:37:43 --> 00:37:46

of interval hunger. Not not to be hung

00:37:46 --> 00:37:48

hungry to the point that I harm myself,

00:37:48 --> 00:37:51

but to be hungry just enough to feel

00:37:52 --> 00:37:54

that this dunya is not comfortable.

00:37:55 --> 00:37:56

Number 2 is silence.

00:37:57 --> 00:37:59

And we said this extends to being online

00:37:59 --> 00:38:01

and how we interact with people on social

00:38:01 --> 00:38:03

media. If I have something good to say,

00:38:03 --> 00:38:05

free free Palestine, of course, you wanna say

00:38:05 --> 00:38:06

that as loud as you can. You

00:38:08 --> 00:38:10

wanna say some nice words to people, of

00:38:10 --> 00:38:11

course.

00:38:12 --> 00:38:14

But meaning staying silent in moments

00:38:15 --> 00:38:15

where

00:38:16 --> 00:38:18

there is talk which is evil or harmful

00:38:18 --> 00:38:19

or not beneficial.

00:38:24 --> 00:38:26

The Quran says, say to my worshipers to

00:38:26 --> 00:38:27

speak the best

00:38:28 --> 00:38:29

to speak the best.

00:38:31 --> 00:38:33

The 3rd that we talked about is having

00:38:33 --> 00:38:35

high aspirations, and I didn't talk about it.

00:38:35 --> 00:38:37

A strong will, a strong nihyah. Every night

00:38:37 --> 00:38:39

in the month of Ramadan, we review our

00:38:39 --> 00:38:39

intention

00:38:40 --> 00:38:43

based on the hadith of Sayidah Hasa. So

00:38:43 --> 00:38:44

training myself to be sincere.

00:38:45 --> 00:38:47

Why am I posting this stuff online? Why

00:38:47 --> 00:38:48

am I sharing this comment? You know, now

00:38:48 --> 00:38:50

people just do things without thinking.

00:38:51 --> 00:38:51

But

00:38:52 --> 00:38:52

I should

00:38:53 --> 00:38:55

habituate within myself

00:38:55 --> 00:38:56

2

00:38:56 --> 00:38:57

questions, lima

00:38:58 --> 00:38:59

and kaf.

00:38:59 --> 00:39:00

Why and how?

00:39:01 --> 00:39:03

Why am I doing this action?

00:39:04 --> 00:39:05

How am I doing this action? It's very

00:39:05 --> 00:39:08

important to ask ourselves this question. As we

00:39:08 --> 00:39:09

said earlier, the sheikh, he said,

00:39:10 --> 00:39:11

whoever doesn't

00:39:15 --> 00:39:17

doesn't interrogate his or her thoughts,

00:39:18 --> 00:39:19

this is a problem.

00:39:19 --> 00:39:21

So I I have to make sure that

00:39:21 --> 00:39:22

I'm speaking well.

00:39:23 --> 00:39:25

The third is being alone with Allah.

00:39:26 --> 00:39:27

Taking time out to be alone with Allah

00:39:27 --> 00:39:30

and interrogate myself whether in taraweeh, whether in

00:39:30 --> 00:39:31

dua, whether in dhikr,

00:39:32 --> 00:39:34

wherever I even if someone ask, how do

00:39:34 --> 00:39:36

I balance fasting at work? You being alone

00:39:36 --> 00:39:38

with Allah isn't is it isn't about a

00:39:38 --> 00:39:40

place. It's about a state of mind.

00:39:41 --> 00:39:42

So where am I at

00:39:43 --> 00:39:44

if I see people doing something wrong or

00:39:44 --> 00:39:47

something evil or something which is unacceptable?

00:39:47 --> 00:39:50

I distance myself from this internally if I

00:39:50 --> 00:39:52

can't do it externally. Maybe as new Muslims,

00:39:52 --> 00:39:54

I knew in my 1st year, I was

00:39:54 --> 00:39:55

living with non Muslims, and they were doing

00:39:55 --> 00:39:57

things which are counter to Islam. But they're

00:39:57 --> 00:39:58

my family. I have to be with them.

00:39:59 --> 00:40:01

So internally, I'm with Allah. Physically, I'm with

00:40:01 --> 00:40:02

them.

00:40:04 --> 00:40:06

I'm present, but I'm absent.

00:40:10 --> 00:40:12

I'm with Allah and

00:40:12 --> 00:40:13

away from

00:40:14 --> 00:40:14

evil.

00:40:15 --> 00:40:17

The last is to pray in the night

00:40:17 --> 00:40:20

to establish the ritual prayer in the evening.

00:40:20 --> 00:40:21

And, of course, if women are menstruating the

00:40:21 --> 00:40:24

last 10 nights of Ramadan, they can make

00:40:24 --> 00:40:25

dua, they can make

00:40:26 --> 00:40:27

they can make.

00:40:27 --> 00:40:29

And the most important thing they can do

00:40:29 --> 00:40:29

is make.

00:40:30 --> 00:40:33

Breastfeeding mothers and mothers who've recently delivered

00:40:33 --> 00:40:36

make intention, oh, Allah. If I could, I

00:40:36 --> 00:40:38

would pray, and your intention will bring you

00:40:38 --> 00:40:39

the reward.

00:40:39 --> 00:40:42

You should say, oh, Allah, if I wasn't,

00:40:42 --> 00:40:43

you know,

00:40:43 --> 00:40:45

if I was able to pray, I would

00:40:45 --> 00:40:46

pray the prayers of the greatest

00:40:47 --> 00:40:48

and have that intention,

00:40:49 --> 00:40:51

and you will be rewarded for it.

00:40:52 --> 00:40:52

By your

00:40:56 --> 00:40:58

The of the believer is greater than their

00:40:58 --> 00:40:59

action.

00:41:00 --> 00:41:00

And then the last

00:41:01 --> 00:41:03

that we set are the foundations of this,

00:41:04 --> 00:41:05

are

00:41:05 --> 00:41:07

to be good to people,

00:41:08 --> 00:41:10

to have good character, to be generous, to

00:41:10 --> 00:41:10

feed people,

00:41:11 --> 00:41:12

to to to

00:41:13 --> 00:41:13

amplify

00:41:14 --> 00:41:16

the cause of the voiceless. Like, we saw

00:41:16 --> 00:41:17

so many generations

00:41:18 --> 00:41:20

about Palestine and what's going on in the

00:41:20 --> 00:41:21

Congo and Sudan

00:41:22 --> 00:41:24

and all over the world to continue to

00:41:24 --> 00:41:26

amplify to if someone asked, can I go

00:41:26 --> 00:41:28

to demonstrations while fasting? Of course.

00:41:28 --> 00:41:30

One of the greatest acts of Allah. You

00:41:30 --> 00:41:32

stand in the day and you stand in

00:41:32 --> 00:41:33

the night, You

00:41:33 --> 00:41:35

stand in the day for justice, and you

00:41:35 --> 00:41:37

stand the night asking Allah for his justice.

00:41:38 --> 00:41:40

You stand in the day asking

00:41:40 --> 00:41:43

Allah, reminding people, excuse me, to be just

00:41:43 --> 00:41:45

to people and to be just in this

00:41:45 --> 00:41:47

world. And then at night, you stand in

00:41:47 --> 00:41:49

front of Allah asking, you Allah,

00:41:49 --> 00:41:51

allow me to experience your justice. That's why

00:41:51 --> 00:41:52

they say, say,

00:41:53 --> 00:41:55

He used to fall asleep in meetings, and

00:41:55 --> 00:41:57

people ask him, what happened? He said, the

00:41:57 --> 00:41:59

day is for people. The night is for

00:41:59 --> 00:42:00

Allah.

00:42:00 --> 00:42:02

The day is for people. The night is

00:42:02 --> 00:42:03

for Allah.

00:42:05 --> 00:42:07

And so you want to turn that into

00:42:07 --> 00:42:09

good character. We'll take any questions that you

00:42:09 --> 00:42:11

have now. I do operate a school. It's

00:42:11 --> 00:42:14

called Suhein Webb Institute. We'll be doing some

00:42:14 --> 00:42:16

awesome programming for our

00:42:16 --> 00:42:18

members. We're a fledgling start up. We are

00:42:18 --> 00:42:21

not a huge entity. It's only $9.99

00:42:22 --> 00:42:24

a month. That people can put it in

00:42:24 --> 00:42:25

the chat box for me. It will help

00:42:25 --> 00:42:26

me a lot.

00:42:27 --> 00:42:29

So you can join for only $9.99

00:42:30 --> 00:42:32

a month for your whole family at join

00:42:32 --> 00:42:33

dotsuheweb.com.join.suheweb.com

00:42:36 --> 00:42:38

and help us out because if you

00:42:38 --> 00:42:39

support

00:42:40 --> 00:42:42

independent scholarship and independent

00:42:42 --> 00:42:43

education,

00:42:44 --> 00:42:44

then

00:42:44 --> 00:42:47

support that work because we are truly independent.

00:42:47 --> 00:42:48

We are funded

00:42:49 --> 00:42:51

by you, by the community. What

00:42:51 --> 00:42:53

I was trained in in 3,

00:42:54 --> 00:42:56

but my that I was taught

00:42:56 --> 00:42:57

was the.

00:42:57 --> 00:42:58

But I'm not fanatical,

00:42:59 --> 00:43:01

in following my Medheb, especially when I did

00:43:01 --> 00:43:03

my Ifta training in Egypt.

00:43:03 --> 00:43:04

We keep the of

00:43:05 --> 00:43:06

people in front of the Ishtiha.

00:43:08 --> 00:43:10

So so that's that question. Are there any

00:43:10 --> 00:43:11

questions about Ramadan?

00:43:11 --> 00:43:14

Anything in particular also for people here,

00:43:14 --> 00:43:16

on the chat? Let me open up the

00:43:16 --> 00:43:18

chat here because there are a lot of

00:43:18 --> 00:43:20

people. As a mother and wife, how do

00:43:20 --> 00:43:23

we balance family and home responsibilities with ABAD?

00:43:23 --> 00:43:24

This is a great question.

00:43:24 --> 00:43:26

Everyone listen to this question because it also

00:43:26 --> 00:43:29

applies to students, it applies to activists,

00:43:29 --> 00:43:31

it applies to so many of us.

00:43:32 --> 00:43:34

And that is 1st and foremost, dear Muslims.

00:43:35 --> 00:43:36

We have to

00:43:37 --> 00:43:37

revisit

00:43:38 --> 00:43:38

the definition

00:43:39 --> 00:43:39

of worship.

00:43:41 --> 00:43:43

Because what happens is, and I don't wanna

00:43:43 --> 00:43:44

make it too complicated,

00:43:44 --> 00:43:45

we tend to restrict

00:43:46 --> 00:43:46

worship

00:43:47 --> 00:43:49

to the definition of the scholars of.

00:43:50 --> 00:43:53

Because we're exposed to so much, the scholars

00:43:53 --> 00:43:55

of Islamic law. So we tend to think

00:43:55 --> 00:43:56

of worship as prayer,

00:43:57 --> 00:44:00

fasting, zakah, and Hajj. Of course, those are

00:44:00 --> 00:44:02

the foundational acts of worship.

00:44:03 --> 00:44:05

But if we look in the Quran, dear

00:44:05 --> 00:44:05

mother,

00:44:06 --> 00:44:08

we see that worship is

00:44:10 --> 00:44:12

is everything Allah loves.

00:44:13 --> 00:44:15

And there are certain moments in our life

00:44:16 --> 00:44:18

where we will be busy with certain things

00:44:18 --> 00:44:19

because of

00:44:20 --> 00:44:20

providence.

00:44:22 --> 00:44:23

Because of what Allah

00:44:24 --> 00:44:25

has decreed for us. Like many people ask

00:44:25 --> 00:44:28

me, why were you off social media for

00:44:28 --> 00:44:28

a while?

00:44:29 --> 00:44:31

My my father was dying. I was busy

00:44:31 --> 00:44:33

with my non Muslim father pleading with him

00:44:33 --> 00:44:35

to take Shahada, and he refused.

00:44:37 --> 00:44:39

My my wife gave birth. I have a

00:44:39 --> 00:44:41

4 year old. I have a 18 month

00:44:41 --> 00:44:43

old. I have 2 kids in college.

00:44:44 --> 00:44:46

So I was busy.

00:44:46 --> 00:44:49

That was the most important thing that Suhaib

00:44:49 --> 00:44:50

Webb could do at that time was to

00:44:50 --> 00:44:52

take care of his daddy.

00:44:52 --> 00:44:55

The most important thing that Suhaibabad can do

00:44:55 --> 00:44:56

at that time was to look after his

00:44:56 --> 00:44:58

children, to help his wife.

00:44:59 --> 00:44:59

So

00:45:00 --> 00:45:02

what I want you to think about

00:45:02 --> 00:45:04

is you shouldn't feel guilty because you're taking

00:45:04 --> 00:45:05

care of your kids.

00:45:06 --> 00:45:08

You're raising the next Salahuddin.

00:45:09 --> 00:45:11

You may be raising the next.

00:45:12 --> 00:45:15

You shouldn't feel guilty if you're in your

00:45:15 --> 00:45:17

university program and you have exams and you

00:45:17 --> 00:45:19

have to study and you have to prepare

00:45:19 --> 00:45:21

because you're not able to do as much

00:45:21 --> 00:45:22

as you would do when you have free

00:45:22 --> 00:45:24

time. You don't have free time now.

00:45:26 --> 00:45:28

Allah has given you this as your risk.

00:45:29 --> 00:45:30

So the best act of

00:45:31 --> 00:45:33

after fasting in the month of Ramadan

00:45:33 --> 00:45:34

is what Imam

00:45:35 --> 00:45:36

Ibnu Ayam called.

00:45:38 --> 00:45:38

Your.

00:45:39 --> 00:45:40

What's most important

00:45:41 --> 00:45:43

for you to do at this moment.

00:45:44 --> 00:45:46

If you're an activist, if you're someone organizing

00:45:46 --> 00:45:49

for Palestine or Kashmir or in the United

00:45:49 --> 00:45:51

States, you have to canvas for the elections

00:45:51 --> 00:45:53

that are coming up. That is the most

00:45:53 --> 00:45:55

important act of worship for you at that

00:45:55 --> 00:45:56

moment.

00:45:56 --> 00:45:58

If it's time for the adhan to be

00:45:58 --> 00:45:59

a call, you don't start to read the

00:45:59 --> 00:46:01

Quran. If it's time to feed people at

00:46:01 --> 00:46:02

Iftar, you don't say I need to make

00:46:02 --> 00:46:05

zikr. No. No. The most important thing to

00:46:05 --> 00:46:07

do is feed the people. That's why Imam

00:46:07 --> 00:46:09

Ahmed Alhambal, he was asked, would you rather

00:46:09 --> 00:46:10

pay tahajid

00:46:10 --> 00:46:12

or help a Muslim who needs to move

00:46:12 --> 00:46:14

into a new home? He said, listen to

00:46:14 --> 00:46:17

what Imam Ahmed said. I would rather help

00:46:17 --> 00:46:20

that Muslim move because that has a systemic

00:46:20 --> 00:46:23

impact on the people, and praying is just

00:46:23 --> 00:46:23

for me.

00:46:24 --> 00:46:25

So

00:46:25 --> 00:46:27

the challenge, Sabrina, for you

00:46:27 --> 00:46:29

in the month of Ramadan and for students

00:46:29 --> 00:46:32

and others is not to separate your life

00:46:32 --> 00:46:33

from Ibadah.

00:46:34 --> 00:46:37

Everything is Ibadah if it's done for Allah.

00:46:38 --> 00:46:41

Everything is that's good if it's done for

00:46:41 --> 00:46:43

Allah. So, You Allah, I'm not able to

00:46:43 --> 00:46:43

pray

00:46:45 --> 00:46:47

because of my final exam. I'll pray what

00:46:47 --> 00:46:50

I can, but please, I make this exam

00:46:50 --> 00:46:52

for you. Oh, Allah, I'm busy as a

00:46:52 --> 00:46:54

mother, as a father, with my children.

00:46:55 --> 00:46:57

Some of us have special needs children that

00:46:57 --> 00:46:58

even demand more time.

00:46:59 --> 00:47:02

You, Allah, this is my active Ibadah.

00:47:02 --> 00:47:04

This is the best thing I can do

00:47:04 --> 00:47:05

at this moment.

00:47:06 --> 00:47:08

So we saw the prophet

00:47:08 --> 00:47:11

when he was giving the and Sahih Muslim.

00:47:12 --> 00:47:14

And that man interrupted the and said, I

00:47:14 --> 00:47:16

want to learn about Islam.

00:47:17 --> 00:47:18

What did the prophet do?

00:47:19 --> 00:47:20

He stopped his khutbah and he taught that

00:47:20 --> 00:47:23

man. Why? Because that's the most important thing

00:47:23 --> 00:47:24

at that moment.

00:47:26 --> 00:47:28

So I want us to push into the

00:47:28 --> 00:47:30

month of Ramadan. I'm gonna talk about this

00:47:30 --> 00:47:31

later, not compartmentalizing

00:47:32 --> 00:47:33

our life and worship,

00:47:33 --> 00:47:34

but to seamlessly

00:47:36 --> 00:47:38

bring all of those into

00:47:39 --> 00:47:39

one complete

00:47:40 --> 00:47:42

expression of servitude to Allah

00:47:43 --> 00:47:45

and to not feel

00:47:45 --> 00:47:46

guilty

00:47:46 --> 00:47:47

about that.

00:47:49 --> 00:47:52

Any other questions? How to avoid deal with

00:47:52 --> 00:47:54

overeating and something about overeating? I didn't see

00:47:54 --> 00:47:55

that question. Sorry.

00:47:56 --> 00:47:57

I have a friend who is interested in

00:47:57 --> 00:47:59

converting and wants to try Ramadan.

00:48:00 --> 00:48:01

Would they?

00:48:02 --> 00:48:04

So the question is sorry. I have the

00:48:04 --> 00:48:06

wrong glasses on here, but the question was

00:48:06 --> 00:48:08

about someone who wants to fast who's non

00:48:08 --> 00:48:10

Muslim. Non Muslims, they can fast with us.

00:48:11 --> 00:48:13

And you can tell them that if eventually

00:48:13 --> 00:48:16

they embrace Islam, they will receive the reward

00:48:16 --> 00:48:19

for that fast. If they accept Islam because

00:48:19 --> 00:48:21

we know that the prophet said that even

00:48:21 --> 00:48:23

the sins of someone who embraced Islam,

00:48:24 --> 00:48:24

if they

00:48:25 --> 00:48:26

Islam,

00:48:26 --> 00:48:29

they they they their Islam is good. Even

00:48:29 --> 00:48:30

their sins,

00:48:34 --> 00:48:35

Allah will take their evil and turn it

00:48:35 --> 00:48:36

to good So you

00:48:37 --> 00:48:39

should tell them not only if you fast

00:48:39 --> 00:48:39

Ramadan

00:48:40 --> 00:48:42

will you be rewarded if you embrace Islam,

00:48:43 --> 00:48:45

You will also all of the evil you

00:48:45 --> 00:48:47

did will be turned to.

00:48:47 --> 00:48:50

And there's an opinion that's this also applies

00:48:50 --> 00:48:51

to Muslims who repent.

00:48:52 --> 00:48:52

So

00:48:53 --> 00:48:55

it's not just not just for those who

00:48:55 --> 00:48:58

embraced Al Islam, but even those who are

00:48:58 --> 00:49:00

born Muslim, and they say, you know what?

00:49:00 --> 00:49:01

I want to get better.

00:49:02 --> 00:49:03

I want to get better.

00:49:03 --> 00:49:05

Thank you for that kind message. Are there

00:49:05 --> 00:49:07

any other questions? We'll do some q and

00:49:07 --> 00:49:08

a sessions, of course, always in the month

00:49:08 --> 00:49:11

of Ramadan. Again, want to encourage all of

00:49:11 --> 00:49:13

you to go to join dotsuheibah.com.

00:49:14 --> 00:49:16

Support our work, man. We're struggling. You know,

00:49:16 --> 00:49:18

we're a very simple organization,

00:49:18 --> 00:49:21

3 or 4 people. We have actually our

00:49:21 --> 00:49:21

videographers

00:49:22 --> 00:49:23

were in Palestine in Gaza.

00:49:24 --> 00:49:25

You know? And 2 of them, they are

00:49:25 --> 00:49:26

alive.

00:49:26 --> 00:49:28

One of them was able to recently get

00:49:28 --> 00:49:28

out,

00:49:30 --> 00:49:31

but, you know, it's a struggle

00:49:32 --> 00:49:34

for those people. So we ask you to

00:49:34 --> 00:49:37

continue. Can I read the Quran while I'm

00:49:37 --> 00:49:38

on my period for women? We know there's

00:49:38 --> 00:49:40

2 opinions about reciting the Quran,

00:49:41 --> 00:49:42

when you're on your period. The strong opinion

00:49:42 --> 00:49:43

you can recite

00:49:44 --> 00:49:46

Anytime you can recite it, but Quran, we

00:49:46 --> 00:49:48

know there's a difference of opinion.

00:49:48 --> 00:49:50

We'll talk about that also as we go

00:49:50 --> 00:49:51

into the month of Ramadan.

00:49:52 --> 00:49:54

How to convert everyone into Islam? You cannot

00:49:54 --> 00:49:56

convert everyone to Islam.

00:49:57 --> 00:49:58

Only Allah can guide who he wants. Allah

00:49:58 --> 00:49:59

said to the prophet,

00:50:01 --> 00:50:03

you cannot guide who he

00:50:06 --> 00:50:08

wants. Allah guides who he wants. Because if

00:50:08 --> 00:50:09

we could guide who he want,

00:50:10 --> 00:50:11

it wouldn't be a test.

00:50:12 --> 00:50:14

But sometimes Allah will guide people like Omar,

00:50:15 --> 00:50:17

people that we would have never imagined will

00:50:17 --> 00:50:18

be Muslim

00:50:19 --> 00:50:21

as a test for us. Can we accept

00:50:21 --> 00:50:22

them as Muslims?

00:50:22 --> 00:50:24

Can we embrace them as Muslims?

00:50:25 --> 00:50:28

What can we make dua about? First, it's

00:50:28 --> 00:50:29

such a great question,

00:50:30 --> 00:50:32

First, we should make dua for ourselves,

00:50:33 --> 00:50:35

that Allah will be pleased with us. And

00:50:35 --> 00:50:36

then we make dua for our families, for

00:50:36 --> 00:50:39

the, for our friends, for our brothers and

00:50:39 --> 00:50:41

sisters, and for the needs that we have.

00:50:42 --> 00:50:44

How often do you give talks and videos?

00:50:44 --> 00:50:46

You know, I'm a father with 4 children,

00:50:46 --> 00:50:48

so I don't I'm I'm I'm older, man.

00:50:48 --> 00:50:50

So it's a little bit difficult for me

00:50:50 --> 00:50:52

to be on social media as much as

00:50:52 --> 00:50:54

I was when I was younger. There's a

00:50:54 --> 00:50:55

few questions here from our students at Swiss.

00:50:55 --> 00:50:57

Does fasting begin Monday or Tuesday?

00:50:58 --> 00:50:58

According to

00:50:59 --> 00:51:01

the the the North American Fit Council, the

00:51:01 --> 00:51:02

first night of Tarawee is Sunday

00:51:03 --> 00:51:05

in America, and then we fast on Monday.

00:51:06 --> 00:51:08

May Allah allow us to live to fast

00:51:09 --> 00:51:10

even one day.

00:51:12 --> 00:51:12

With

00:51:13 --> 00:51:16

all my illnesses being healed sooner during Ramadan,

00:51:16 --> 00:51:19

am I disciplined and focused on just Allah?

00:51:20 --> 00:51:22

Will all my illnesses be healed sooner during

00:51:22 --> 00:51:24

Ramadan? I'm not sure I understand the question.

00:51:24 --> 00:51:26

If you can rephrase it, Hamdah will be

00:51:26 --> 00:51:27

better in.

00:51:31 --> 00:51:33

So someone's asking about how do we sort

00:51:33 --> 00:51:34

of balance

00:51:35 --> 00:51:37

fasting and the joy of fasting

00:51:38 --> 00:51:39

with what's going on in the world and

00:51:39 --> 00:51:41

specifically the crisis in the Hadza.

00:51:43 --> 00:51:46

So first and foremost, our happiness for for

00:51:46 --> 00:51:48

the month of Ramadan is not the kind

00:51:48 --> 00:51:51

of shallow happiness that maybe people have with

00:51:51 --> 00:51:51

other things.

00:51:52 --> 00:51:52

Our

00:51:53 --> 00:51:55

fast our happiness for the month of Ramadan

00:51:55 --> 00:51:58

is that Allah guided us to fast.

00:51:59 --> 00:52:01

Just imagine, man.

00:52:01 --> 00:52:03

You know, how many people have never been

00:52:03 --> 00:52:04

guided to say

00:52:05 --> 00:52:08

once in their life, and Allah chose you.

00:52:09 --> 00:52:10

That's the happiness.

00:52:11 --> 00:52:13

It's not the shallow type that happens. Second

00:52:13 --> 00:52:14

thing, how do we maintain

00:52:17 --> 00:52:19

our excitement for being able to worship Allah

00:52:19 --> 00:52:20

more

00:52:21 --> 00:52:22

and turn back to Allah and see so

00:52:22 --> 00:52:23

much good in the

00:52:26 --> 00:52:27

is

00:52:28 --> 00:52:29

what Mustafa

00:52:29 --> 00:52:30

said

00:52:31 --> 00:52:33

in Listen to this one, he said. And

00:52:33 --> 00:52:35

I want to jump off. I don't like

00:52:35 --> 00:52:35

to talk too long.

00:52:37 --> 00:52:38

He said

00:52:39 --> 00:52:41

that you should see your life as though

00:52:41 --> 00:52:42

you're on a boat,

00:52:43 --> 00:52:44

and the dunya

00:52:44 --> 00:52:45

is an ocean.

00:52:46 --> 00:52:48

You're not responsible for the waves in the

00:52:48 --> 00:52:49

ocean.

00:52:49 --> 00:52:50

You're not responsible

00:52:50 --> 00:52:53

for the creatures in the ocean, the depth

00:52:53 --> 00:52:54

of the ocean.

00:52:54 --> 00:52:56

Your job is you are the captain of

00:52:56 --> 00:52:57

your ship,

00:52:58 --> 00:53:00

and that ship has 3 responsibilities.

00:53:02 --> 00:53:02

Number 1,

00:53:04 --> 00:53:06

to be just, to be balanced,

00:53:06 --> 00:53:07

not to tip over,

00:53:08 --> 00:53:10

not to allow the waves to impact the

00:53:10 --> 00:53:11

ship so much that it loses

00:53:12 --> 00:53:14

its balance. No matter what happens in the

00:53:14 --> 00:53:15

dunya,

00:53:15 --> 00:53:16

I'm the slave of

00:53:21 --> 00:53:23

I'm not the slave of the dunya. I'm

00:53:23 --> 00:53:25

the slave of the creator of the dunya.

00:53:25 --> 00:53:28

So no no matter how good things get,

00:53:28 --> 00:53:30

no matter how bad things get, I'm with

00:53:30 --> 00:53:31

Allah.

00:53:31 --> 00:53:34

I'm with Allah. And I have the second

00:53:34 --> 00:53:34

thing

00:53:39 --> 00:53:42

he says, And the job of the ship

00:53:42 --> 00:53:45

is to reach its destination, and the destination

00:53:45 --> 00:53:46

for us,

00:53:49 --> 00:53:50

is Allah.

00:53:51 --> 00:53:53

So I I'm not getting distracted by what's

00:53:53 --> 00:53:55

happening in the ocean. Even though it hurts

00:53:55 --> 00:53:57

me, it pains me, I should pay attention

00:53:57 --> 00:53:59

to it. I'm not indifferent to it, but

00:53:59 --> 00:54:02

not to the point that it capsizes my

00:54:02 --> 00:54:05

soul and capsizes my iman. I'm headed to

00:54:05 --> 00:54:06

Allah.

00:54:06 --> 00:54:07

The greater the challenge,

00:54:08 --> 00:54:09

the greater the opportunity.

00:54:10 --> 00:54:11

The greater people push injustice,

00:54:12 --> 00:54:13

the greater I have the chance to push

00:54:13 --> 00:54:14

for justice.

00:54:14 --> 00:54:17

The more difficult the time is, the greater

00:54:17 --> 00:54:19

opportunity to cash in with.

00:54:19 --> 00:54:20

And that's why the prophet

00:54:21 --> 00:54:22

said as related by Imam

00:54:23 --> 00:54:23

with a good

00:54:25 --> 00:54:27

There will be from amongst you some people

00:54:28 --> 00:54:30

who one of their deeds is equal to

00:54:32 --> 00:54:33

50 of you, different narrations.

00:54:34 --> 00:54:35

The Sahaba

00:54:36 --> 00:54:38

said, people will come after us who their

00:54:38 --> 00:54:40

deeds are equal to 20, 10, 50 of

00:54:40 --> 00:54:43

us, different narrations. He said, yes. Because these

00:54:43 --> 00:54:45

will be the times of fitin. These are

00:54:45 --> 00:54:45

these times.

00:54:46 --> 00:54:48

So even though the dunya

00:54:48 --> 00:54:50

the sea of the dunya is harsh and

00:54:50 --> 00:54:51

cold,

00:54:51 --> 00:54:54

and the waves are strong like Mustafa Sadiq

00:54:54 --> 00:54:55

al Rafi. He

00:54:56 --> 00:54:57

said, I'm not gonna allow the ship to

00:54:57 --> 00:54:59

be capsized. Why? I'm with Allah.

00:55:02 --> 00:55:03

I'm with Allah.

00:55:03 --> 00:55:04

So just think about it that way, and

00:55:04 --> 00:55:06

you'll be able to push through. Another question

00:55:06 --> 00:55:09

from. I'm wondering how can we practice Ramadan

00:55:09 --> 00:55:11

more when being away from family and community.

00:55:11 --> 00:55:14

It's hard, you know, The hardest Ramadan I

00:55:14 --> 00:55:16

ever had was when I was by myself

00:55:16 --> 00:55:17

away from my family.

00:55:17 --> 00:55:19

So what I tried to do is really

00:55:19 --> 00:55:22

use, like, YouTube and Instagram and and and

00:55:22 --> 00:55:23

there was no Instagram then.

00:55:24 --> 00:55:26

And tried to watch, like, lectures of Shu

00:55:26 --> 00:55:28

and to even I would even watch.

00:55:29 --> 00:55:31

You know? Just so I would

00:55:32 --> 00:55:34

fill in if you think about, like, supplements.

00:55:34 --> 00:55:36

Like, I would supplement what I missed

00:55:37 --> 00:55:39

being away from my family and community. Now,

00:55:39 --> 00:55:41

you have FaceTime, you have Zoom. So you

00:55:41 --> 00:55:43

can even do, like, iftar maybe with your

00:55:43 --> 00:55:46

family or friends. You know, I know some

00:55:46 --> 00:55:48

new Muslims who they do FaceTime iftar, you

00:55:48 --> 00:55:51

know, alhamdulillah, especially during COVID. And they created,

00:55:51 --> 00:55:53

like, their own community iftar through Zoom and

00:55:53 --> 00:55:55

and and FaceTime and other things. So you

00:55:55 --> 00:55:57

can push into that and use it.

00:55:58 --> 00:56:00

Are there any other questions? A lot of

00:56:00 --> 00:56:01

people asking to jump on the live. I

00:56:01 --> 00:56:03

don't know you. I can't accept you to

00:56:03 --> 00:56:04

jump on my live. I don't know who

00:56:04 --> 00:56:06

that is, man. That might be that might

00:56:06 --> 00:56:08

be Michael Rapaport or something. Even though he

00:56:08 --> 00:56:09

blocked me,

00:56:10 --> 00:56:12

he never knows who's asking to jump on

00:56:12 --> 00:56:13

your lights.

00:56:18 --> 00:56:18

So

00:56:19 --> 00:56:21

someone says it feels,

00:56:23 --> 00:56:23

it feels

00:56:24 --> 00:56:25

wrong to pray

00:56:26 --> 00:56:29

on a with our names printed on it.

00:56:29 --> 00:56:31

No. It's okay. You can pray with your

00:56:31 --> 00:56:33

name on the. There's nothing wrong with that.

00:56:33 --> 00:56:35

Someone gave you a gift in a.

00:56:36 --> 00:56:38

There's nothing wrong with praying on a as

00:56:38 --> 00:56:40

long as it doesn't have images, like actual

00:56:40 --> 00:56:42

images of people or pictures. It's okay. If

00:56:42 --> 00:56:43

your name is on it and it's not

00:56:43 --> 00:56:45

distracting you, no problem.

00:56:46 --> 00:56:48

It's a good gift someone gave you a

00:56:49 --> 00:56:51

Any other questions? Someone asked me how am

00:56:51 --> 00:56:52

I doing? I'm good.

00:56:53 --> 00:56:55

Thank you for asking. I really appreciate that.

00:56:55 --> 00:56:56

Ask ask

00:56:56 --> 00:56:59

people how they are, man. It's very important.

00:56:59 --> 00:57:00

It's a very good question. I'm good. Thank

00:57:00 --> 00:57:02

you for asking. May Allah bless you and

00:57:03 --> 00:57:05

keep you, strong and give you a beautiful

00:57:05 --> 00:57:07

Ramadan. Is it recommended to recite

00:57:08 --> 00:57:10

sorry. I got the d for qiraat and

00:57:10 --> 00:57:12

Ramadan edition to yeah. Of course. You can

00:57:12 --> 00:57:15

read other qiraat. It's okay. No problem. Last

00:57:15 --> 00:57:16

year, I I read with and

00:57:17 --> 00:57:18

watched. It's good.

00:57:18 --> 00:57:20

Just tell the people so you don't freak

00:57:20 --> 00:57:21

them out.

00:57:24 --> 00:57:26

So, yeah, people are saying that on my

00:57:26 --> 00:57:28

IG, they ask people if they wanna join.

00:57:28 --> 00:57:30

You know, I've been shadow banned since 2014,

00:57:30 --> 00:57:33

people. So you guys talking about shadow banned.

00:57:35 --> 00:57:38

Imagine someone has 900,000 followers on Facebook, and

00:57:38 --> 00:57:39

they put a post up and it has

00:57:39 --> 00:57:41

2 views or 2 likes. So that tells

00:57:41 --> 00:57:43

you, as I said earlier,

00:57:43 --> 00:57:43

it's

00:57:44 --> 00:57:46

not social media, it's dictatorial media.

00:57:46 --> 00:57:48

And that's unfortunate, but we we're patient. We

00:57:48 --> 00:57:49

leave it to Allah.

00:57:50 --> 00:57:51

We don't think about the numbers. We think

00:57:51 --> 00:57:53

about the quality of the work we do.

00:57:53 --> 00:57:55

We ask a lot to put baraka. Because

00:57:55 --> 00:57:57

even if nobody follows you or me, if

00:57:57 --> 00:57:58

nobody shows up,

00:57:59 --> 00:58:01

the angels, they will write what you said.

00:58:02 --> 00:58:04

We had a teacher years ago, Abdul Malik

00:58:04 --> 00:58:05

from Houston,

00:58:05 --> 00:58:06

Rahim. Abdul

00:58:07 --> 00:58:09

Malik, he used to give dawah in the

00:58:09 --> 00:58:12

hood, and he had a small mausoleh, and

00:58:12 --> 00:58:13

nobody would come.

00:58:14 --> 00:58:15

And he told me,

00:58:15 --> 00:58:17

I used to give

00:58:17 --> 00:58:18

talks by myself.

00:58:20 --> 00:58:20

Subhanallah,

00:58:20 --> 00:58:22

he used to make dua

00:58:23 --> 00:58:25

just by himself. And then Allah blessed him

00:58:25 --> 00:58:26

and his community grew.

00:58:26 --> 00:58:27

So don't worry.

00:58:28 --> 00:58:30

Any more questions about the month of Ramadan?

00:58:30 --> 00:58:31

If not,

00:58:32 --> 00:58:34

wishing all of you a blessed Ramadan. We

00:58:35 --> 00:58:36

ask

00:58:37 --> 00:58:38

Allah We ask Allah

00:58:39 --> 00:58:40

to bless each and every one of you

00:58:40 --> 00:58:42

to make it a beautiful Ramadan.

00:58:43 --> 00:58:45

Please share my account with others because I

00:58:45 --> 00:58:47

am being shadow banned. I'm sorry to ask

00:58:47 --> 00:58:49

that, but it's crazy. Someone's asking, is the

00:58:49 --> 00:58:51

calendar on Swiss up to date? It should

00:58:51 --> 00:58:54

be up to date in the 1st week

00:58:54 --> 00:58:57

of Ramadan. But the if you go come

00:58:57 --> 00:58:59

out to the live classes tab now on

00:58:59 --> 00:59:01

the website, you'll see all the live classes

00:59:01 --> 00:59:02

there.

00:59:03 --> 00:59:05

And someone's saying, it's a different way to

00:59:05 --> 00:59:06

think of

00:59:07 --> 00:59:09

you typed in Arabic. Even if you're shadow

00:59:09 --> 00:59:11

banned, who knows how exactly.

00:59:11 --> 00:59:13

You don't worry about it. You leave it

00:59:13 --> 00:59:15

to Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala. Even I don't

00:59:15 --> 00:59:17

like to talk about it because it's like

00:59:17 --> 00:59:18

shameful. You leave it to Allah.

00:59:21 --> 00:59:23

Sabrina, also blessed to have you in my

00:59:23 --> 00:59:25

life and to to engage with you and

00:59:25 --> 00:59:26

have you in our classes. We really enjoyed.

00:59:27 --> 00:59:30

Yes. I'm waiting. Someone said, wait. Wait.

00:59:30 --> 00:59:32

Wait. I will wait for you

00:59:32 --> 00:59:34

if you have any questions. My my kids

00:59:34 --> 00:59:36

are asleep, so I have a few minutes,

00:59:37 --> 00:59:38

before I have to jump off.

00:59:41 --> 00:59:42

Any other questions? If not,

00:59:43 --> 00:59:44

it was a pleasure to be here with

00:59:44 --> 00:59:46

all of you. Please keep us at your

00:59:46 --> 00:59:48

duas. We'll post this live on our,

00:59:50 --> 00:59:50

Instagram,

00:59:51 --> 00:59:52

our YouTube page.

00:59:52 --> 00:59:54

You'll be able to see it there for

00:59:54 --> 00:59:55

Jazakk Malakkaren.
