00:00:48 --> 00:00:51

In the name of Allah, most gracious, most

00:00:51 --> 00:00:51

merciful,

00:00:53 --> 00:00:55

all praise is due to our creator, our

00:00:55 --> 00:00:57

cherisher, our nourisher, and our sustainer.

00:00:58 --> 00:01:00

We bear witness. There's none worthy of worship

00:01:00 --> 00:01:01

but Allah.

00:01:01 --> 00:01:03

We bear witness. We believe in all the

00:01:03 --> 00:01:05

prophets who came throughout history.

00:01:06 --> 00:01:08

And we bear witness that prophet Muhammad

00:01:14 --> 00:01:16

is the final of all the emissaries of

00:01:16 --> 00:01:17

Allah.

00:01:17 --> 00:01:20

Beloved brothers and sisters and elders and youth,

00:01:21 --> 00:01:23

I greet you with the Islamic universal greeting

00:01:23 --> 00:01:25

of peace at this auspicious hour of Jum'ah.

00:01:25 --> 00:01:26

I

00:01:26 --> 00:01:27

greet you

00:01:33 --> 00:01:34

The headlines

00:01:34 --> 00:01:38

that currently dominate global and local news

00:01:40 --> 00:01:42

clearly indicate that we are in the winter

00:01:42 --> 00:01:43

of discontent.

00:01:45 --> 00:01:47

And many are wondering

00:01:48 --> 00:01:49

whether we can be hopeful

00:01:50 --> 00:01:52

of even anticipating

00:01:52 --> 00:01:53

a spring

00:01:55 --> 00:01:57

in which we can shed the gloom of

00:01:57 --> 00:01:57

the tribulations

00:01:59 --> 00:02:01

which human beings are facing all over the

00:02:01 --> 00:02:01

world.

00:02:04 --> 00:02:06

In the current week,

00:02:06 --> 00:02:08

what we are witnessing globally and locally,

00:02:10 --> 00:02:13

the senseless killing of 19 innocent children slain

00:02:13 --> 00:02:15

by an 18 year old gunman

00:02:16 --> 00:02:19

in Uvalde, Texas in US. By the way,

00:02:19 --> 00:02:21

in the US alone.

00:02:22 --> 00:02:23

There has been 212

00:02:24 --> 00:02:25

mass shootings

00:02:26 --> 00:02:27

in the last 144

00:02:27 --> 00:02:28

days

00:02:28 --> 00:02:31

in this leading country supposedly of the world.

00:02:32 --> 00:02:34

It's not a matter of gloating or belittling.

00:02:35 --> 00:02:36

It's just to indicate where the world is

00:02:36 --> 00:02:37

right now.

00:02:39 --> 00:02:41

The ongoing war in Europe between Russia and

00:02:41 --> 00:02:41

Ukraine

00:02:42 --> 00:02:44

that is impacting on food and fuel prices

00:02:44 --> 00:02:45

worldwide.

00:02:47 --> 00:02:50

The continued war by the richest Arab countries

00:02:50 --> 00:02:50

against

00:02:51 --> 00:02:53

the Arab world's poorest country, Yemen,

00:02:53 --> 00:02:55

which the UN has declared as the world's

00:02:55 --> 00:02:57

largest humanitarian

00:02:57 --> 00:02:58

crisis.

00:02:59 --> 00:03:02

The deliberately targeted broad daylight killing

00:03:02 --> 00:03:04

in Jenin of a respected

00:03:05 --> 00:03:06

American Palestinian

00:03:06 --> 00:03:07

journalist,

00:03:07 --> 00:03:09

Shareen Abu Akleh,

00:03:09 --> 00:03:11

by an armor piercing bullet

00:03:12 --> 00:03:13

shot by a soldier

00:03:14 --> 00:03:16

of an occupying army.

00:03:17 --> 00:03:18

On the local scale,

00:03:19 --> 00:03:20

on the local front,

00:03:21 --> 00:03:22

government's

00:03:22 --> 00:03:24

decision to spend 84,000,000

00:03:24 --> 00:03:25

rand

00:03:25 --> 00:03:27

to demolish the stadium

00:03:28 --> 00:03:29

in Chuaneng,

00:03:30 --> 00:03:31

a building which

00:03:32 --> 00:03:32

84,000,000

00:03:33 --> 00:03:33

to demolish

00:03:34 --> 00:03:37

cost a 140,000,000 to be built and was

00:03:37 --> 00:03:38

never ever used.

00:03:39 --> 00:03:41

Then the tragedy locally in our own area

00:03:42 --> 00:03:44

of the kidnapping of a young capitol mother,

00:03:44 --> 00:03:47

Shireen Isok, which remains unsolved.

00:03:49 --> 00:03:50

There are 5,455

00:03:52 --> 00:03:53

carjackings

00:03:53 --> 00:03:55

in the past year in South Africa.

00:03:56 --> 00:03:57

15 every day

00:03:58 --> 00:03:59

Becoming a norm.

00:04:01 --> 00:04:01

4,100

00:04:02 --> 00:04:04

children are kidnapped annually,

00:04:04 --> 00:04:05

which means somewhere

00:04:06 --> 00:04:07

in South Africa

00:04:07 --> 00:04:10

a child goes missing every 5 hours.

00:04:11 --> 00:04:12

How does it happen?

00:04:13 --> 00:04:15

How is it allowed to happen?

00:04:16 --> 00:04:18

We are living on the African continent

00:04:20 --> 00:04:22

and by the way, this is not meant

00:04:22 --> 00:04:22

to be

00:04:23 --> 00:04:25

a negative chart. It's just for us to

00:04:25 --> 00:04:28

deflect because none of this has to be

00:04:28 --> 00:04:28

so.

00:04:29 --> 00:04:31

And all of this are due to human

00:04:31 --> 00:04:32

error.

00:04:34 --> 00:04:36

We are living on the African continent

00:04:36 --> 00:04:39

blessed with gold, with diamonds, with oil, with

00:04:39 --> 00:04:41

platinum, with gold, with uranium,

00:04:42 --> 00:04:44

iron ore, and other valuable resources.

00:04:45 --> 00:04:48

And despite all of this, the inhabitants of

00:04:48 --> 00:04:50

Africa continue to be among the poorest people

00:04:51 --> 00:04:52

most mired in poverty.

00:04:53 --> 00:04:56

Why does a continent with such an abundance

00:04:56 --> 00:04:57

of natural resources

00:04:59 --> 00:05:00

yet its wealth

00:05:01 --> 00:05:03

has so little effect and impact

00:05:03 --> 00:05:05

on the quality of the life of people

00:05:05 --> 00:05:06

who live in Africa.

00:05:08 --> 00:05:09

We are living in beautiful South Africa.

00:05:12 --> 00:05:14

The freest country in the world by far.

00:05:14 --> 00:05:15

Freedom of religion,

00:05:16 --> 00:05:18

freedom of expression, freedom of association,

00:05:19 --> 00:05:21

a country with a lauded constitution,

00:05:22 --> 00:05:24

a country with a majestic legacy

00:05:24 --> 00:05:26

of struggle that produced

00:05:26 --> 00:05:27

magnificent stalwarts

00:05:28 --> 00:05:30

in the liberation struggle and in the freedom

00:05:30 --> 00:05:31

and freedom fighters.

00:05:32 --> 00:05:35

Yet we remain the most unequal country in

00:05:35 --> 00:05:35

the world.

00:05:38 --> 00:05:39

The elite

00:05:41 --> 00:05:43

controllers of the world economy,

00:05:43 --> 00:05:45

governments met

00:05:45 --> 00:05:46

in Davos

00:05:46 --> 00:05:48

as they do every year

00:05:49 --> 00:05:51

And this exclusive global elite got together in

00:05:51 --> 00:05:54

Davos this week for the World Economic Forum.

00:05:54 --> 00:05:58

Oxfam, an organization which tries to end injustice

00:05:58 --> 00:05:58

and poverty.

00:05:59 --> 00:05:59

Oxfam

00:06:00 --> 00:06:04

published a book called profit profiting from pain.

00:06:05 --> 00:06:05

And

00:06:05 --> 00:06:07

in that, they indicate

00:06:08 --> 00:06:10

that since COVID 19 pandemic started,

00:06:11 --> 00:06:13

there arises a new billionaire

00:06:14 --> 00:06:14

every 50 hours.

00:06:17 --> 00:06:17

Masha Allah.

00:06:18 --> 00:06:18

But

00:06:20 --> 00:06:22

every 50 hours somewhere in the world a

00:06:22 --> 00:06:24

billionaire is created. A new billionaire comes into

00:06:24 --> 00:06:25

being

00:06:26 --> 00:06:27

or comes to the fore

00:06:28 --> 00:06:29

while simultaneously

00:06:30 --> 00:06:33

every 53 hours a million more people go

00:06:33 --> 00:06:34

into poverty.

00:06:35 --> 00:06:37

1,000,000 people more going to poverty.

00:06:39 --> 00:06:39

Tomorrow

00:06:40 --> 00:06:42

by Assar from now till tomorrow by Assar

00:06:42 --> 00:06:45

or tomorrow by Isha, a 1000000 more people

00:06:45 --> 00:06:46

would have gone into poverty.

00:06:49 --> 00:06:51

None of these really make sense.

00:06:52 --> 00:06:54

Yet all of these impact each of us

00:06:54 --> 00:06:56

in some way or the other.

00:06:56 --> 00:06:59

And in in all of these undermine

00:07:00 --> 00:07:01

our common humanity.

00:07:02 --> 00:07:03

The question is

00:07:03 --> 00:07:05

how do these things happen unabated?

00:07:07 --> 00:07:09

And the ironic tragedy is

00:07:10 --> 00:07:10

how come

00:07:11 --> 00:07:13

we are all allowing this to happen.

00:07:13 --> 00:07:15

Not all of us can all the time

00:07:17 --> 00:07:19

be incapacitated not to do anything.

00:07:20 --> 00:07:22

Is there any move on the part of

00:07:22 --> 00:07:24

some of us or all of us

00:07:25 --> 00:07:26

individually or collectively

00:07:28 --> 00:07:29

to prevent this?

00:07:30 --> 00:07:32

We have to pause.

00:07:32 --> 00:07:33

We have to think.

00:07:35 --> 00:07:38

Numerous ayaats in the Quran and exhorts.

00:07:44 --> 00:07:45

Understand, reflect,

00:07:45 --> 00:07:47

use your intellect, observe reality,

00:07:48 --> 00:07:49

engage with the world,

00:07:50 --> 00:07:50

be observant.

00:07:51 --> 00:07:54

Amal bin Abdukais was a Tabia, one of

00:07:54 --> 00:07:56

those who saw the companions of the prophet

00:07:56 --> 00:07:58

salallahu alaihi wa sallam.

00:07:58 --> 00:07:59

He was a Tabia

00:08:00 --> 00:08:01

who died in who lived in Basra, died

00:08:01 --> 00:08:03

in Damascus, but he was from Basra. He

00:08:03 --> 00:08:04

said

00:08:14 --> 00:08:16

I've heard not from 1, not 2, from

00:08:16 --> 00:08:18

more than that, 3 or 4 of the

00:08:18 --> 00:08:20

companions of the companions of the prophet

00:08:22 --> 00:08:24

indicating to me that indeed

00:08:24 --> 00:08:27

the radiance of the life of faith is

00:08:27 --> 00:08:28

the reflection,

00:08:30 --> 00:08:30

introspection,

00:08:31 --> 00:08:31

contemplation.

00:08:33 --> 00:08:35

And little one one day the prophet great

00:08:35 --> 00:08:37

great grandson, Imam Jafar al Sadiq

00:08:38 --> 00:08:39

said,

00:08:41 --> 00:08:43

reflecting for an hour is better than worship

00:08:44 --> 00:08:45

for a year.

00:08:47 --> 00:08:49

We have to think.

00:08:50 --> 00:08:51

We have to reflect.

00:08:55 --> 00:08:57

What is my role as an individual

00:08:58 --> 00:08:59

and our role as a collective

00:09:00 --> 00:09:00

in a troubled world

00:09:01 --> 00:09:03

at a difficult time.

00:09:05 --> 00:09:07

I have not even mentioned COVID.

00:09:07 --> 00:09:09

I haven't even mentioned deaths.

00:09:10 --> 00:09:12

I haven't even mentioned loss of job, loss

00:09:12 --> 00:09:15

loss of people's income, loss of lives. I

00:09:15 --> 00:09:16

haven't even mentioned it

00:09:17 --> 00:09:20

Which is the most dominant thing throughout the

00:09:20 --> 00:09:22

world for better or for worse in some

00:09:22 --> 00:09:22

ways.

00:09:25 --> 00:09:27

There is a dire need for introspection

00:09:28 --> 00:09:29

and the necessity

00:09:29 --> 00:09:32

for honest critical self evaluation.

00:09:33 --> 00:09:35

Is our leadership whether political,

00:09:35 --> 00:09:36

religious, or academic

00:09:37 --> 00:09:39

engaging the reality that we are facing

00:09:40 --> 00:09:40

in a practical

00:09:41 --> 00:09:42

and in a pragmatic manner?

00:09:44 --> 00:09:46

Are they actually addressing these issues at all?

00:09:47 --> 00:09:49

Are they even really aware of it?

00:09:50 --> 00:09:53

It was so disappointing about last week that

00:09:53 --> 00:09:54

Shireen,

00:09:54 --> 00:09:56

lady was killed in Jenin.

00:09:57 --> 00:09:58

So somebody,

00:09:58 --> 00:09:59

a journalist said,

00:10:00 --> 00:10:01

the martyrdom of,

00:10:02 --> 00:10:03

Shareen.

00:10:03 --> 00:10:05

A whole host of Ulema responded.

00:10:05 --> 00:10:07

How can you call a Christian a a

00:10:07 --> 00:10:08

a a a

00:10:09 --> 00:10:12

a shayid? They are kafir. You can't call.

00:10:12 --> 00:10:13

Is that the debate? Yet none of them

00:10:13 --> 00:10:15

have listened to those points. None of them

00:10:15 --> 00:10:17

even condemn the attack or the killing for

00:10:17 --> 00:10:20

example? We're missing the point all the time.

00:10:21 --> 00:10:23

We sent you making issues of something which

00:10:23 --> 00:10:25

are non issues and the major major issue

00:10:25 --> 00:10:28

continues unabated and unaddressed

00:10:30 --> 00:10:31

because

00:10:33 --> 00:10:35

we need to look whether they are addressing

00:10:35 --> 00:10:36

these issues,

00:10:36 --> 00:10:40

political, religious, or academic leaders. Are they even

00:10:40 --> 00:10:41

really aware of it?

00:10:42 --> 00:10:45

Because we go where our leadership leaders

00:10:47 --> 00:10:49

reflect on how noble our heroic struggle for

00:10:49 --> 00:10:51

liberation was in this country

00:10:52 --> 00:10:55

and look where self serving corrupt and incompetent

00:10:56 --> 00:10:57

leaders have landed us.

00:10:58 --> 00:11:00

How did you get from the likes of

00:11:00 --> 00:11:00

Robert Shubuque,

00:11:01 --> 00:11:02

from Steve Biko,

00:11:03 --> 00:11:06

from Rahima Musa, from Imam Harun. How did

00:11:06 --> 00:11:08

you get from there to where we are

00:11:08 --> 00:11:08

today?

00:11:11 --> 00:11:14

You see true leaders as we know are

00:11:14 --> 00:11:14

likable,

00:11:15 --> 00:11:16

are lovable,

00:11:17 --> 00:11:18

are respectful and respectable.

00:11:19 --> 00:11:21

Have the capacity to unite,

00:11:22 --> 00:11:23

not to divide.

00:11:23 --> 00:11:25

Have the ability to simplify

00:11:25 --> 00:11:26

rather than complicate.

00:11:27 --> 00:11:28

Are practical,

00:11:28 --> 00:11:29

are realistic,

00:11:29 --> 00:11:30

are relevant,

00:11:30 --> 00:11:31

and pragmatic.

00:11:32 --> 00:11:33

And therefore,

00:11:33 --> 00:11:34

they are loved

00:11:35 --> 00:11:36

and worthy

00:11:37 --> 00:11:37

of our following.

00:11:39 --> 00:11:41

In the words of the greatest leader of

00:11:41 --> 00:11:42

all time,

00:12:00 --> 00:12:02

If we are not vigilant and conscientious,

00:12:03 --> 00:12:04

then we may unfortunately

00:12:05 --> 00:12:08

end up getting disliked leaders that we deserve.

00:12:09 --> 00:12:11

People doing the same thing in the same

00:12:11 --> 00:12:11

manner

00:12:12 --> 00:12:15

without enhancing the people that are being led.

00:12:16 --> 00:12:17

It was Albert Einstein

00:12:17 --> 00:12:19

who pointed out

00:12:19 --> 00:12:22

that if an experiment does not yield

00:12:22 --> 00:12:24

the desired result. You make an experiment and

00:12:24 --> 00:12:26

you don't get the result you want.

00:12:27 --> 00:12:29

Simply repeating the same experiment won't give you

00:12:29 --> 00:12:30

a different result.

00:12:32 --> 00:12:34

If you keep getting what you always if

00:12:34 --> 00:12:36

you keep doing what you always did, you

00:12:36 --> 00:12:37

keep getting what you always got.

00:12:38 --> 00:12:40

Many people appear to be to be oblivious

00:12:40 --> 00:12:41

of this fact

00:12:42 --> 00:12:44

and continue to be guilty of what we

00:12:44 --> 00:12:45

call

00:12:45 --> 00:12:49

repetitive actions in their social, religious, political behavior.

00:12:49 --> 00:12:52

By indulging in the same process of thinking,

00:12:52 --> 00:12:55

same process of action while hoping for different

00:12:55 --> 00:12:56

outcomes.

00:12:56 --> 00:12:57

It's not practical

00:12:57 --> 00:12:59

nor is it logical.

00:13:00 --> 00:13:02

If we want to play a truly constructive

00:13:02 --> 00:13:04

role in repairing a damaged world,

00:13:05 --> 00:13:06

we can be preoccupied

00:13:06 --> 00:13:08

with focusing on the same secondary

00:13:09 --> 00:13:10

issues that are of little consequence

00:13:11 --> 00:13:13

and which may partially affect a few of

00:13:13 --> 00:13:17

us while overlooking or ignoring major issues that

00:13:17 --> 00:13:19

affect all of us. We carrying a deen

00:13:19 --> 00:13:21

that came to resolve the problems of the

00:13:21 --> 00:13:21

world.

00:13:22 --> 00:13:24

We're making the deen a problem for ourselves

00:13:24 --> 00:13:26

by infighting among ourselves about the deen itself.

00:13:26 --> 00:13:27

Whether Hanafi can

00:13:31 --> 00:13:34

pray with the twenty. What about the Salafis?

00:13:34 --> 00:13:36

We are busy with us all the time

00:13:36 --> 00:13:38

people. All of it irrelevant.

00:13:40 --> 00:13:41

We are facing a crisis of survival here

00:13:41 --> 00:13:42

of humanity.

00:13:43 --> 00:13:45

Even if you're worried about fiqh, as I

00:13:45 --> 00:13:45

always say,

00:13:46 --> 00:13:47

how much kind of water do you have

00:13:47 --> 00:13:49

as you've at least kun for Abdas? There

00:13:49 --> 00:13:51

won't even be water in times to come.

00:13:51 --> 00:13:53

We witnessed part of it in the past.

00:13:53 --> 00:13:55

Future wars will not be fought over oil

00:13:55 --> 00:13:57

people. It will be fought over water. You

00:13:57 --> 00:13:59

won't have water for the basic wudu you

00:13:59 --> 00:14:00

argue about, even if you want to be

00:14:00 --> 00:14:02

purely involved in fiqh and not in politics.

00:14:06 --> 00:14:07

So we must review

00:14:09 --> 00:14:10

our paradigm.

00:14:11 --> 00:14:13

What has been paradigm I mean how we

00:14:13 --> 00:14:15

look and we perceive the reality around us

00:14:15 --> 00:14:18

and how we engage that reality.

00:14:18 --> 00:14:21

There's definitely a need for a paradigm shift

00:14:21 --> 00:14:24

and this especially for each of us in

00:14:24 --> 00:14:26

light of the fact that Allah Subhanahu Wa

00:14:26 --> 00:14:28

Ta'ala has placed us

00:14:29 --> 00:14:32

and placed upon us the responsibility of Khalifa

00:14:32 --> 00:14:33

to life of the

00:14:34 --> 00:14:34

human

00:14:35 --> 00:14:36

beings as a

00:14:37 --> 00:14:39

as a representatives, as a manages of affairs

00:14:39 --> 00:14:40

of Allah on

00:14:41 --> 00:14:42

earth. Okay.

00:14:48 --> 00:14:50

Allah has made the world beautiful and orderly

00:14:50 --> 00:14:52

and he has put you in charge of

00:14:52 --> 00:14:54

it and he's carefully observing how you are

00:14:54 --> 00:14:55

dealing with it.

00:14:57 --> 00:14:58

So

00:14:59 --> 00:15:01

the human being in the Islamic world view

00:15:01 --> 00:15:03

is Khalifa to life in earth. Each one

00:15:03 --> 00:15:05

of us. Not the Maulana or the Sheikh

00:15:05 --> 00:15:07

or the leader, all of us. But if

00:15:07 --> 00:15:08

there are leaders who are leading us we

00:15:08 --> 00:15:11

will make sure that because we are following

00:15:11 --> 00:15:13

that these objectives are met.

00:15:16 --> 00:15:16

And

00:15:17 --> 00:15:19

part of the decision and the management of

00:15:19 --> 00:15:21

the face on the world is the Amana

00:15:21 --> 00:15:23

that we have to fulfill the

00:15:28 --> 00:15:28

responsibility.

00:15:30 --> 00:15:32

And human beings have taken on the responsibility

00:15:32 --> 00:15:34

and been granted that

00:15:34 --> 00:15:36

position and authority

00:15:36 --> 00:15:38

and a major part of that

00:15:47 --> 00:15:50

Allah has availed to you the utilization of

00:15:50 --> 00:15:52

all the resources in the heavens and the

00:15:52 --> 00:15:52

earth.

00:15:53 --> 00:15:55

Allah has availed to you the utilization of

00:15:55 --> 00:15:56

resources

00:15:57 --> 00:15:58

throughout the heavens and the earth.

00:16:00 --> 00:16:01

All that from him, from

00:16:01 --> 00:16:03

him. He has garnered you.

00:16:07 --> 00:16:10

Surely in this their signs for those who

00:16:10 --> 00:16:12

reflect, those who contemplate.

00:16:13 --> 00:16:15

The world with all these provisions,

00:16:15 --> 00:16:16

with these resources,

00:16:17 --> 00:16:18

the opportunities,

00:16:18 --> 00:16:19

our abilities,

00:16:20 --> 00:16:22

all of these are to be used without

00:16:22 --> 00:16:23

abuse or misuse.

00:16:24 --> 00:16:24

To be terrorized

00:16:25 --> 00:16:26

and not to be exploited.

00:16:27 --> 00:16:27

And furthermore,

00:16:28 --> 00:16:30

we are to ensure that part of the

00:16:30 --> 00:16:31

trust

00:16:34 --> 00:16:35

will not cause corruption

00:16:36 --> 00:16:37

and disruption on Earth.

00:16:38 --> 00:16:40

Because the exploitation of resources,

00:16:41 --> 00:16:44

the oppression of people, the corruption of systems

00:16:44 --> 00:16:45

on earth

00:16:45 --> 00:16:48

is solely due to man's misuse of resources

00:16:48 --> 00:16:50

and the abuse of authority and power.

00:16:55 --> 00:16:58

Corruption is manifest on the land because of

00:16:58 --> 00:16:59

the deeds of people.

00:17:00 --> 00:17:04

So to affect a paradigm shift requires awareness.

00:17:04 --> 00:17:05

It entails

00:17:06 --> 00:17:08

perspective. It demands

00:17:08 --> 00:17:09

conscious action.

00:17:09 --> 00:17:11

And this brings me to a concern where

00:17:11 --> 00:17:13

we and especially our youth who are the

00:17:13 --> 00:17:14

future generations,

00:17:16 --> 00:17:18

they seem to be missing in action.

00:17:18 --> 00:17:20

There appears to be an increase in disengagement

00:17:21 --> 00:17:21

with reality.

00:17:23 --> 00:17:25

Relating to the world in indirect manner.

00:17:26 --> 00:17:27

Not through meaningful

00:17:27 --> 00:17:29

direct personal engagement,

00:17:29 --> 00:17:32

but through a device that hinders our perception

00:17:32 --> 00:17:33

of reality

00:17:33 --> 00:17:36

and how we deal with people with issues

00:17:36 --> 00:17:37

in impersonal matter,

00:17:38 --> 00:17:39

impersonal manner.

00:17:40 --> 00:17:41

Fantastic, great device.

00:17:42 --> 00:17:43

Please use it.

00:17:44 --> 00:17:45

But don't become enslaved.

00:17:46 --> 00:17:47

This is not the world.

00:17:47 --> 00:17:49

It's a means of connecting, it's not the

00:17:49 --> 00:17:49

reality.

00:17:51 --> 00:17:52

We live in an information age which is

00:17:52 --> 00:17:54

great and efficient. Alhamdulillah.

00:17:55 --> 00:17:57

But constantly looking at our cell phone screen

00:17:57 --> 00:18:00

and engaging distant people while ignoring the people

00:18:00 --> 00:18:01

in front of you, this is how rude

00:18:01 --> 00:18:03

you become. When the phone rings, I speak

00:18:03 --> 00:18:05

to the person who's not there and I

00:18:05 --> 00:18:06

ignore the person who made an appointment with

00:18:06 --> 00:18:08

me. Why?

00:18:09 --> 00:18:10

It's a new culture of disrespect.

00:18:13 --> 00:18:14

Someone makes an appointment to see me and

00:18:14 --> 00:18:16

I'm busy speaking to someone who just by

00:18:16 --> 00:18:17

the way phone me. How are you?

00:18:20 --> 00:18:22

And therefore we've developed a new thing what

00:18:22 --> 00:18:24

they call fubbing. Fubbing, you know phone snubbing.

00:18:24 --> 00:18:26

You snub the people in front of you

00:18:26 --> 00:18:27

because of the phone.

00:18:27 --> 00:18:28

Fubbing.

00:18:29 --> 00:18:31

Phone snubbing the people

00:18:31 --> 00:18:32

who are in your presence.

00:18:33 --> 00:18:34

This apparent

00:18:34 --> 00:18:36

enslavement to a screen

00:18:36 --> 00:18:38

where we barely give ourselves the opportunity to

00:18:38 --> 00:18:41

think of ourselves because we are constantly connected

00:18:42 --> 00:18:45

and influenced by an endless stream of media

00:18:45 --> 00:18:47

and technology, which in itself is not bad,

00:18:47 --> 00:18:50

but the endless stream is the problem. Keeping

00:18:50 --> 00:18:52

us continuously in touch via text messages and

00:18:52 --> 00:18:55

WhatsApps and emails, not a problem in

00:18:55 --> 00:18:58

itself. But engaging the world mostly through social

00:18:58 --> 00:18:58

media

00:18:59 --> 00:19:01

as if little if that little screen

00:19:01 --> 00:19:04

providing us a false sense of connectiveness

00:19:04 --> 00:19:06

as if the screen is our world.

00:19:10 --> 00:19:11

You can be,

00:19:13 --> 00:19:14

just you and reflect.

00:19:16 --> 00:19:19

If you are constantly engaged in responding

00:19:20 --> 00:19:22

and being focused on a screen.

00:19:24 --> 00:19:25

You could truly be in a position of

00:19:25 --> 00:19:26

the

00:19:27 --> 00:19:29

if you try and allow yourself to be

00:19:29 --> 00:19:30

you and to be silent for a moment.

00:19:31 --> 00:19:32

Because in silence there's wisdom.

00:19:34 --> 00:19:37

In seclusion that's why is so important. Why

00:19:37 --> 00:19:39

did the Rasul before coming to the world

00:19:39 --> 00:19:40

and give the message going to Halwa?

00:19:42 --> 00:19:44

Creating a perspective

00:19:44 --> 00:19:46

not to be affected by too much other

00:19:46 --> 00:19:46

information.

00:19:47 --> 00:19:50

Constantly other people's opinions. Something not important. Hey,

00:19:50 --> 00:19:51

you know what? What was going to say?

00:19:51 --> 00:19:52

I don't know. I don't know. But he's

00:19:52 --> 00:19:54

got a sale. Now I suddenly check what's

00:19:54 --> 00:19:55

in sale now. Why I want to buy

00:19:55 --> 00:19:57

some post those. I never needed it but

00:19:57 --> 00:19:59

now suddenly I'm also going there

00:20:00 --> 00:20:00

now.

00:20:01 --> 00:20:02

We are over consumed

00:20:04 --> 00:20:04

in consumerism

00:20:06 --> 00:20:07

and consumption of information

00:20:07 --> 00:20:09

and some of it of little value.

00:20:10 --> 00:20:11

Think for yourself,

00:20:12 --> 00:20:13

contemplate about reality

00:20:14 --> 00:20:15

and reflect productively.

00:20:16 --> 00:20:18

Allah has created each one with a purpose.

00:20:19 --> 00:20:21

Nothing was created without a purpose.

00:20:23 --> 00:20:25

Subhanah, glory to Allah was not created anything

00:20:26 --> 00:20:26

without purpose.

00:20:27 --> 00:20:29

What to speak of the best of creations.

00:20:31 --> 00:20:33

So what is my role and your role

00:20:33 --> 00:20:35

in a troubled world? We are all capable

00:20:35 --> 00:20:36

of having views

00:20:36 --> 00:20:37

or forming opinions,

00:20:38 --> 00:20:40

but we don't always make good judgments.

00:20:41 --> 00:20:41

And therefore,

00:20:42 --> 00:20:45

we minimize the potential for our positive impact

00:20:45 --> 00:20:45

on the world.

00:20:47 --> 00:20:49

And by good judgment, I mean the analytic

00:20:49 --> 00:20:52

skill, the mental and emotional ability

00:20:52 --> 00:20:54

to consciously observe

00:20:54 --> 00:20:57

to consciously observe the reality for yourself around

00:20:57 --> 00:20:58

you.

00:20:58 --> 00:21:00

To use the information we have

00:21:01 --> 00:21:02

and that we get.

00:21:02 --> 00:21:05

To exercise our wisdom to choose the best

00:21:05 --> 00:21:07

option in making the wisest decision.

00:21:08 --> 00:21:09

That is good judgment.

00:21:10 --> 00:21:12

People who normally make good judgments

00:21:12 --> 00:21:14

are usually people who think sensibly,

00:21:14 --> 00:21:16

who listen carefully,

00:21:17 --> 00:21:19

who appreciate reality

00:21:19 --> 00:21:20

and who act practically.

00:21:21 --> 00:21:22

You see?

00:21:23 --> 00:21:25

Whatever the problems I've mentioned,

00:21:25 --> 00:21:27

whether of crime of corruption of leadership,

00:21:28 --> 00:21:30

political, religious or otherwise.

00:21:31 --> 00:21:32

We have to all think this notion of

00:21:32 --> 00:21:34

thinking of the fact.

00:21:34 --> 00:21:35

But think strategically,

00:21:36 --> 00:21:37

you see usually,

00:21:37 --> 00:21:40

even in religious arguments and discussions and debates.

00:21:40 --> 00:21:42

80% of the problem

00:21:42 --> 00:21:45

arise from 20% of an issue.

00:21:46 --> 00:21:48

80% of our problems

00:21:48 --> 00:21:51

arise from 20% of an issue. If we

00:21:51 --> 00:21:54

can find the essential 20% of the cause

00:21:54 --> 00:21:57

we can effectively fix 80% of the problem

00:21:58 --> 00:21:58

very efficiently.

00:22:00 --> 00:22:02

So let's use our talents, let's use our

00:22:02 --> 00:22:04

skills, let's use our positions, let's use our

00:22:04 --> 00:22:06

wealth, our influence, our authority,

00:22:07 --> 00:22:10

our personal relations and our social media connections

00:22:11 --> 00:22:12

to be of the

00:22:13 --> 00:22:14

to be of those

00:22:15 --> 00:22:16

who resolve problems.

00:22:16 --> 00:22:19

Not to be of the subabul mashakil

00:22:19 --> 00:22:20

of those

00:22:20 --> 00:22:22

who are the causes.

00:22:23 --> 00:22:24

And the contributors to problems.

00:22:25 --> 00:22:27

May Allah protect us all from the ongoing

00:22:27 --> 00:22:29

trial of this pandemic.

00:22:30 --> 00:22:32

Grant recovery to those who are healing,

00:22:33 --> 00:22:35

Freedom to those who are oppressed.

00:22:35 --> 00:22:38

Victory to those who are fighting for liberation.

00:22:38 --> 00:22:40

Paradise for those who are deceased.

00:22:40 --> 00:22:42

And guidance for each of us

00:22:42 --> 00:22:44

to be a source of healing

00:22:44 --> 00:22:47

for the many ailments affecting the world.

00:22:48 --> 00:22:48

Realizing

00:22:49 --> 00:22:51

that if we are truly dear to Allah,

00:22:56 --> 00:22:58

Then Allah causes you to be an instrument

00:22:59 --> 00:23:00

to aid the well-being

00:23:00 --> 00:23:01

of humanity.

00:25:54 --> 00:25:56

Inshallah, there's a few announcements, inshallah.
