Abdullah, Abu Abdullah, this was the cornea. But obviously later on, he becomes famous and people start addressing him using an Imam Al Bukhari and that's it and until today, we all know him as Imam Al Bukhari Rahim Allah.

knowledge, to go about seeking knowledge so much the extent that historians mentioned by the age of 14 or 15, a very tender young age where most of our youngsters are playing around Imam Al Bukhari. By mahalo had sought knowledge from all of the leading and prominent scholars of perasaan. He had gone to all of them and sought all the knowledge that could be sought by them. Like say, for example, if the Sahaba if the level of Sahaba

Remember Bukhari at the age of 14 or 15, he spots it, he spots it and in a very polite way, he indicates this to his teacher. It was the norm of the past that unlike today, our memory, our memories are weak, and we rely on notes we rely on our books, mostly the scholars of the past, they would dictate through memory. So this teacher was dictating and narrating all these ahaadeeth through his memory, Mr. Bahari, Rahim Allah he spots it and in a very polite way he informs his teacher about it. The teacher looks at him and well Buhari because

obviously is a youngster and he tells him No, I'm sure that this narration is proper and intact. Remember before Rahim Allah He politely insists, no, please, you should check it and the teacher because obviously given his years of experience teaching, he feels that no, it's correct the way I'm narrating until finally Mr. Bahari, Rahim, Allah again insists, why don't you share? Please check your notes. Now, observing his student Imam Al Bukhari being so insistent the chef decides to go inside he goes inside his house, and he double checks with his notes only to find the moment of Buhari Rahim Allah was correct. Bukhari Rahim Allah because now when we mentioned we talked about him as the legend, but at that time, he was just 14 or 15 years of age, and he was able to spot a very subtle error, if you will. And this was due to the photographique memory that he had been blessed with by Allah subhanho wa Taala. Nonetheless, at the age of 16, now he sets out on Hajj, and in those days it was well known that Mecca you know,

There was the lens of hijas. They were the hubs of knowledge. People from all over the world would traverse to Mecca and Medina to fulfill the rites of Hajj, Jenner Amara, and unlike today where we go spend only about a week or two and then we return the people of the past had to had to undertake long journeys to arrive at Mecca. He seeks permission from his family to stay back and seek knowledge further, his family leaves he stays behind, he stays on for another 10 to 15 years seeking knowledge by the scholars of the lands of ages, the Arabian Peninsula. It was during that period of time at the age of 18 or 19. He authors his first book known as cobaya Sahaba, the rulings of the Sahaba and this indicates the expertise of the knowledge of Imam Al Bukhari Rahim Allah He was not only an expert in the field of ahaadeeth, he was also an expert in the field of jurisprudence law. So he authored the first book Colonia Sahaba. And then another book which is like an encyclopedia and it is a standard reference today, he authors

And in due time people start to, you know, hear about Imam Al Bukhari, the progress of Imam Al Bukhari the talents of Imam Al Bukhari, the flawless memory of Imam Al Bukhari, the photographique memory of Imam Al Bukhari. And now his fame starts to spread and as his as he's growing older is seeking knowledge. And from the prominent teachers of that time, he seeks knowledge from him. Even Hanbal Rahim Allah, a very famous scholar that we're all familiar with. He seeks knowledge from jacobina Marine, I live in El Medina, all famous scholars of that time, and they to

attest to the knowledge of Emmanuel Buhari, even a humble example, who teaches emammal Buhari during You know, when he was in his 20s, because my mathematical humble was old at that time at the age of 70. His teaching Manuel Buhari Rahim Allah, and at that time, Mr. Mathematica humbled was the undisputed champion of a Heidi. No one could, you know, surpass him as much knowledge in a heartbeat at that time. He teaches emammal Buhari and he attests to the knowledge of Emmanuel Buhari by saying that I have not come across a youngster from the lens of corizon more knowledgeable than this youngster pointing to Mohammed Ebony's. the humble attesting to the knowledge of a youngster at the age of 20, if you will. So as you can see, he furthers his knowledge, he seeks knowledge, he covers many, many narrations of the Hadith of the Prophet sallallahu sallam, and now he's working on the prototype of Sohail Buhari of his book. And he visits these scholars, he puts forth this writing of his he gets their constructive feedback. He includes all of that if one of them were to say that, you know, perhaps remove this hadith because it's not authentic. He would listen to them he wouldn't debate he he worked stringently and very carefully in regard to compiling a Heidi, and that's how Sahih Bukhari came about. Sahil

The majority of the scholars are of the opinion that no weak narrations exist in the book of Imam Al Bukhari Rahim Allah, you have a minority one or two a few scholars who have come forward and stated that Yeah, there are a few narrations that may be classified as weak in the book of Imam Al Bukhari, but the majority of the opinion that his book all had it in his book authentic, so Panama.

So when he arrives after the people that welcomed him, they go to him and they tell him, how about we go to the main Masjid where everybody can gather, and let's address the people. And let's all share narrations 10 of us will put forth 10 A Heidi, the other scholar puts 10 ahead these forward in that way the students of knowledge can benefit and we all can benefit from one another's discourses and the knowledge being shared and this was a practice in those days. Mmm Buhari ahem Hola. He agrees they go to the masjid 10 scholars line up and they are about to share their ID. Now something that a moment ago he was not aware of was that they had already planned to test the

And the name names had been jumbled up. So scholar number one goes forward and he reads his 10 A Heidi The jumbled up 10 A Heidi, and each time he reads a hadith

the scholar looks at Imam Al Bukhari Rahim Allah, and he says, Do you attest to this narration? Have you heard of this narration? So let's say for example, the first ad that he reads out in the mail Mr. Lubin, the actions are based upon your intentions and he reads the narration with the chain of narratives. Now obviously, this is the Hadith that all basic students of knowledge have come across. So the scholar reads the Hadith looks at the mammal before him holla for a confirmation. Remember Buhari after he had read the Hadith he looks at him and says, I'm sorry. I've never heard of this hadith.

I'm sorry. I've never heard of this hadith. Okay, fine. Hadith number two is put forward.

And after he had read the jumbled up version of Hadith number two, he looks at Emmanuel Buhari for confirmation. Imam Bukhari Rahim Allah again repeats I'm sorry, I've never heard of this hadith. And he did the same for all 100 a haddie. Subhana Allah all 100 Heidi, this is a famous test that took place it's mentioned across the books of history.

Finally, the scholars were somewhat surprised. How come they were thinking

And even the students of knowledge were confused now because they could not detect the jumbling up the swapping of names. So they were thinking what's going on? And if number one, you mentioned it like this, and he puts forward that jumbled up version, he says you

read the Hadith like this, but it's not supposed to be like this. It's supposed to be like this and he gives the corrected version. Then he says as for Hadith number two, you read it like this, he puts forward the jumbled up version and then he says no, there are a few mistakes and he corrects the mistakes and gives the correct version 34567 all 100 ahaadeeth he reads out the erroneous ones and he corrects them and puts forth the correct versions. subhanho wa Taala. So it's no surprise that Allah would bless such an individual because he is using it to protect the words of Mohammed sal Allahu Allahu alayhi wa sallam. So this is one main incident that's mentioned in the books of history. So as we move forward, we also read that he was a pinnacle of good conduct of Allah. It has been said that the day he read the Hadith in regard to Riba in regard to backbiting, in regard to the severe consequences of backbiting, from that day onwards, he never ever spoke bad about anyone. He never ever spoke ill about anyone. He came across the ahaadeeth the talk about zeba where it is akin to eating the flesh of your dead brother. Allah says

Allah forbid if I were to use this platform, or this gathering, so many people here listening to me and if I were to talk bad about someone, then in the very same gathering, I have to put the record straight by saying, I did something wrong by speaking ill about this individual and I need to speak good.

Need to praise the individual to try and rectify things.

So if you have gone around talking bad about an individual, now you have to go around praising that individual. Just imagine what people would think of you.

You spoke bad now you have to go speaking good. You need to praise the individual and you put the record straight. And this is after seeking the forgiveness of Allah and going to that individual and telling him that you know what, I spoke bad about you please forgive me? Do you think it's worth it? for few time for a few moments to enjoy some gossip? Do you think it's worth it? Rather, we keep quiet. This is why the professor Lyon Islam has emphasized so much in regard to be in regard to being careful about what comes out from your mouth. So mama Buhari was obviously a master in a heartbeat. He had taught almost about 90,000 students of Hanover authored so many books accomplished so much in his life.

And at the age of 59, or 58, he decides to go back to Toronto.

He decides to go back to his hometown not to retire in the sense from teaching, but he decides to retire back to his hometown because he had been on the move throughout from the time he set out on Hajj. He didn't go back to his hometown he had been moving from city to city, seeking knowledge and disseminating knowledge seeking knowledge and disseminating knowledge authoring books, compiling books. So this was his life. So at the age of 58, or 59. Now he decides to go back to Bukhara.

And the minute the news travels to bahara people have bahara now excited because when he when he was a youngster, and now the great Imam is returning back to be you know, they felt privileged, they felt honored that the Imam has decided to come back. And they were leading and prominent scholars in the city, who are also happy that Imam Al Bukhari Rahim Allah has decided to return and from them there was a scholar by the name Muhammad

Ali.

He was a senior scholar at that time and he was known as the Mufti of Bukhara, a very senior and leading scholar. He too was happy that Imam Al Bukhari is now planning to return. So the day mama Buhari returns everybody goes out flocking to welcome Imam Al Bukhari, Rahim Allah and Mohammed even use a duel. He was also part of the crowd. He goes forward he welcomes the mama bokhara him over and he says Your presence is most welcome. We are looking forward to benefiting from you. And mama Buhari is welcomed very, very warmly back to his hometown. Now a few days pass and like I said a moment Buhari was not planning to retire in a way where he would stop

Teaching No, he goes back home setters and now he starts to teach again now in the lands of Bihar now what happens? After a few days, the scholars of the land started to observe their gatherings becoming smaller, the numbers diminishing and where are the numbers going? The numbers are all flocking to the gathering of Imam Al Bukhari.

And this, the scholar I mentioned his name Mohammed Ibn Yusuf Aloo Holly, may Allah have mercy upon him, like I said, a famous leading and senior scholar, his gathering was large. But then he started to notice his numbers dropping as well as the numbers diminishing and all of them going to the gatherings of Imam Al Bukhari.

Before I go forward, I would just like to subtly mentioned something.

At times what happens is we tend to put scholars on pedestals

and we think of them as infallible. In other words, flawless, they can't make mistakes. But just as how you have professional jealousy across other fields, sadly, it is a reality that you find it amongst the scholars as you find it. Um, it's the scholars as well. If you go to look commits, doctors, you will see that this jealousy exists. They don't, not all of them, but some of them don't like others progressing. If his internship is out, let him be ordering or coming to Colombo, Colombo is my territory.

And then in business, you see in the form of competition and whatnot in the corporate sector, you see, in schools, you see, this is part of human nature, and scholars are human as well.

So somehow they felt threatened. Initially, they welcomed enamel gohari, but now when they saw their followers dropping their numbers, diminishing their gatherings becoming smaller

shavon seizes the opportunity to cause problems.

Now there were these murmurings there were these feelings of negativity going around now because the numbers were moving to the gatherings of Imam Al Bukhari Rahim Allah because

most of them who wanted to go and benefit by him. Third, that his knowledge he was far ahead of his time, Mama Bukhara mahama lightyears ahead if you will, so they felt they could benefit more from him. And some of them would benefit from both the scholars But either way, they started to notice the numbers dropping. And then what happens one day an individual in the gathering of women Well, before Rahim, Allah puts forward a loaded question and remember Buhari at that time, there was a famous controversy that was going on in regard to the Quran, as to whether the Quran is a creation of Allah or not. It was a huge controversy rarely spoken about these days. But the position of our

Jamaat the Sunni position, is that we believe that the Quran is not a creation, it is qalamoun law, it is the speech of Allah. So lengthy discussion, and due to the brevity of time we can go into it. Nonetheless what we believe is that the Quran is not a creation of Allah, it is the column of Allah the speech of Allah subhanho wa sallam. Now this individual in the gathering,

he puts forward a question under mama Bukhari and he says,

You What about my recitation of the Quran? It is established that the Quran is not calcula it is not from the creation of Allah, it is the speech of Allah. But when I read the Quran, the words coming out of my mouth, what are they? A mama Buhari Rahim Allah, the minute this question was put forth, he clarifies very clearly because he was bold, and he was sure of the opinion that he held. He said, let me clarify what comes out from your mouth in terms of the sounds that you make using your faculties of speech, your tongue, your mouth, your jaws, your lungs, this is created, the actions of human beings are created, but the content is not created. Like if you were to take a copy of the

Quran from the shelf, okay, the pages, the pages, created, the ink that is used created the cover of the Koran created, but the content of the Quran Bismillah Ar Rahman AR Rahim al hamdu Lillahi Rabbil alameen. The content that's captured within the Quran is not created, it is the speech of Allah. So he clarifies it very clearly. But this individual misquotes. Imam Al Bukhari to the other chef Mohammed Yusuf Ali stating that amendment Buhari has put forth an opinion that the Quran is a creation of a bomb.

Mohammed Yusuf Ali, may Allah have mercy upon him at that time, Boko Haram, Allah knows best in regard to how we transpired perhaps at the very beginning, he had sincere intentions and he wanted to clarify this misconception.

And this is what times happens. Sometimes certain people want to advise others in a very sincere way. But Sherpa seizes the opportunity to blow the issue out of proportion and then you find it very difficult to contain the situation. So perhaps Mohammed Yusuf Ali wanted to clarify this with him. Al Bukhari Rahim Allah but the situation got out of hand, and you started to spread like wildfire that Imam Al Bukhari Rahim, Allah is of the opinion that the Quran is a creation of Allah.

And then what happened was,

the scholars started to speak against him. They started to warn the people not to benefit from him not to frequent these gatherings that perhaps is deviant in his teachings. Because on one camp, we have this senior scholar, the musty of Bukhara Imam Al Bukhari, even though he's famous he's still a stranger, a foreigner was come from abroad was this Mufti has been in that city for a long time, and it's his word against his now.

So even the other scholars started to speak against Imam Al Bukhari Rahim Allah, in their gatherings in their discourses to warn the people against him. One day, Mohammed Yusuf Ali was addressing his students, an Imam. Muslim was also in the gathering because Mr. Muslim, by the way was initially the student of Mohammed Ibn Yusuf Ali. Mohammed even used the word do early in the gathering starts to warn the people about Imam Al Bukhari and Mr. Muslim couldn't take it because Mr. Muslim, he knew the truth. He knew what had really transparent, he gets up and he walks away from the gathering in a polite way.

And this angers this particular scholar even further because Mr. Muslim was one of his prized students, one of his prized students, and this student has now completely gone to Imam Al Bukhari.

You see, this is how Chapin seizes the opportunity to cause all kinds of fitna.

And it's important for us to know our history, it's important for us to read these stories to go back to the legends of the past to learn. You know, there are scholars of history who said that the one who reads history, it is as if he has lived through the annals of time. So now as I'm narrating what happened to the life of Amanda Guevara, isn't it as if we are living in the era in the time of Imam Al Bukhari. That's how it feels. When you read the books of history. It's as if you're living across through the annals of time.

So now what happens this scholar loses his prized student and that angers him further,

This is what is mentioned in the books of history. Now all the scholars start attacking him and this was one religious controversy that was going on. And amidst that, there was another controversy that took place where the governor of Bukhara at that time invites enamel Bihari Rahim Allah The minute he hears about the gatherings the famous gatherings of Imam Al Bukhari, he wanted Imam Al Bukhari to come to his palace and teach his children. So he invites him in Bukhari Rahim Allah. Initially Imam Al Bukhari Rahim Allah politely

declines and he says my gathering is open to everybody. You can have your sons come and seek knowledge by me at my gathering. The governor keeps insisting and saying no, I want private tutoring. I want a private gathering for my sons. They won't mingle with the normal folk. Mr. Manohar Joshi. moolah did not like this. And he was not open to the idea of going to the palace. So there was this back and forth. This exchange of messages. And remember Buhari was blunt in refusing to go and teach the princes if they wanted to seek knowledge, let them come and seek it by me. This is the knowledge of Allah subhanho wa Taala. It doesn't demean itself. I will not come to your feet,

let them come and they are free to come to my gathering anytime they want. And they can seek knowledge just as everybody else is seeking knowledge by me.

This angered the governor so much to the extent that he had put forth so many offers. He had put forth so many offers or oil invitation and emammal before Rahim Allah has turned it all down. He decides to exile Imam Al Bukhari Rahim Allah and he issues a command that Imam Al Bukhari should leave should leave Bukhara and go wherever he wants to go. He can't remain in the governance of this individual. Remember, Bihari Rahim Allah decides to leave because these two issues at the same time. He decides to leave to another city of perasaan because perasaan covered model it is basically the modern day Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, all these places put together. So he decides to go to another

province, province of perasaan. The matey decides to go his students were informed and some of them even decide to travel along with him. The scholars

who were involved in the formation of Imam Al Bukhari spread the news to all the other cities

Did you know there's been a big problem caused here? And now he's coming there? avoid him Don't take him in and warn your people against him. So

every city Imam Al Bukhari Rahim, Allah tries to enter the people who are not welcoming. They were not receptive because the scholars of the land heeded the warning that was sent. And they started to warn the people against him. As you can see shutdown the way he plans and also a negative and toxic feelings how they play into the hearts of an individual, into the hearts of the individuals. May Allah save a soul. He goes now and he finds it difficult to move because all kinds of accusations are being hurled at him. All kinds of

things are being said about him.

He's being classified as a deviant as a liar, not fit to seek knowledge from not fit to take a hiatus from

until finally

it was during the month of Ramadan in the year 256 hijiri.

From our mistaken

it was the night before April 5. The night of April 5 of the last night of Ramadan. Mmm Imam Al Bukhari Rahim Allah decides to leave wherever he can go. He doesn't know he's just going to leave he packs his bags. And as he's leaving,

he raises his hands and he makes Doha unto Allah subhanho wa Taala.

He prays for Allah,

your earth, the dwarf goes along the lines of these words, your earth is so vast,

your earth is so vast, the lands are so vast, but this world has become so narrow for me, I have nowhere to go.

Therefore, if you feel

that it is good for me to live, then let me live. But if there is no good in me living, then take away my soul.

He being a master if I had if he knew of the narrations in this regard, the Prophet sallallahu Sallam has clearly and explicitly stated that none of us should wish for death, we should not pray for death.

But if a situation were to arise, where you have to ask draw for death, then you have to attach this condition. You have to make the law in your knowledge if

me living is good, then let me live. But if not take my life. So this is how he made he made as per the teachings of the prophets that are long, widely read he was sending. He was about to leave the city.

Stepping out. Allah subhanho wa Taala has decreed that his true soul should be taken and he complains and falls down.

In Allah.

Mama Buhari Rahim Allah was buried before

and the life of the legend comes to an end there. But it has really come to an end. Now, until today,

and until the day after Yama His name is being mentioned and will be mentioned how many times every single hope about what do we say? narrated by Imam Al Bukhari Rahim Allah and each time he mentioned his name What are we doing? We're making to offer him Rahim Allah may Allah have mercy on him, Allah have mercy on him. Allah had to put him through such a trial. Yes. And this is why the Prophet sallallahu Sallam his report, perhaps say that the ones tested the most by Allah are the ones closest to Allah, the prophets. They are the ones tested the most. So Muslim fulfill themselves, and then the very next best afterwards, the very next best. A person is tested according to his levels of Eman according to his levels of taqwa according to his levels of Bara. A test is to forgive you of your sins to bring you closer to Allah.

So yes, he was tested by Allah. And then the plan of Allah was as such that until today, no one talks about the other share.

Again, may Allah have mercy upon him. Allah knows what is. You know, Allah knows best what was in his heart at that point, Mohammed Ibn Yusuf is no one talks about him. No one talks about that Governor no one even knows his name,

but Imam Al Bukhari His name is

It's across the annals of time across the books of history, across the lips of scholars across the lips of students of knowledge across the lips of the masses. Imam Al Bukhari Rahim Allah,

so many respected elders and brothers in Islam. There are many, many lessons to be gleaned from his life from the snapshot that I gave you all.

The fact that he went through so many trials, to have faith in the plan of Allah subhanho wa Taala to never give up, to nurture our children to in such a way that they become legends. The likes of Emmanuel Bahama Muslim shaftless, lama shafie namo hanifa, the scholars of the past, and then most importantly, a lot of us we think of history to be boring.

We don't like to listen about the scholars of the past the people of the past the leaders of the past, we don't want to study our history. If you don't know where you came from. You don't know where you are, you don't know where you're going.

You will forget.

A nation has to be reminded about its history. And we have golden pages of history to pour overs, Panama, so many lessons to deduce. Therefore I hope that enticed you all and incited in your hearts, a desire, a spark, to learn about the legends of the past, and inshallah in the future to if Allah blesses us with opportunities, we pray that Allah blesses us as such.
