So we continue with the Bab, the chapter
regarding Basharalah,
the giving glad tidings
to people,
reminding people about good things that are going
to come.
And so this hadith,
we we didn't read it
yesterday because it was long and it would
have we'd have had to rush through it,
or we may not have had time to
finish it. We would have cut into the
iftar time, which is not good.
So it's narrated by Sayna Abu Musa Al
al Ashari Abu Musa al Ashari is a
Yemeni, becomes Muslim,
before the Hijra. And so he's the only
Sahabi who made hijra three times.
So once from Yemen to Mecca to be
with the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alaihi wa
sallam
and once from,
Makkah
to Habashah to
Abyssinia,
and then once from
from,
Abyssinia to Madinah Munawah.
So he's a very special Sahabi,
a special companion of the Messenger of
Allah sallallahu alaihi wa sallam. There are many
ahadith about his you know, how much loved
the Messenger of Allah and
how much love he had for the Prophet
also.
So it's narrated that Abu Musa Al Asha
Ali, may Allah TA'b be pleased with him
one day. He made wudu in his house
and then he,
he
set out and he said, today I will,
stay with the Messenger of Allah sallallahu
alaihi wa sallam
and I'll tag along with him wherever he
goes and I'll be with him for this
whole day. I have this whole day set
aside just to,
just to be with the prophet sallallahu alaihi
wasalam.
Fajal and Masjid. So he comes to the
Masjid,
Radiallahu anhu and
asks about the
prophet
and so they said, oh, he went in
so and so direction. He left and he
went in such and such and such a
direction. So he said I left,
following his footsteps, and I would just keep
asking the people along the way, did you
see the messenger of Allah sallallahu alaihi wa
sallam? So they say say he went that
way.
All the way until we got to the
place a place called Bir Aris, the Well
of Aris.
Bir Aris.
I'd rather visit Vir Aris than visit Baris,
but,
he went to this place, this well
and the garden that's around that well.
And so
I went to that well, to the Belariz,
the Well of Ariz
and then, I sat at the at the
door and there's a door made out of
palm frond.
It was not really like a door, but,
you know, if you've been to if you've
been to many places in the Muslim world,
there's a doorway and they, like, hang
they, like, hang something in the middle. It's
not like a solid door that's meant to,
like, you know, keep people out, but it's
just it kinda just blocks the entrance just
to let let you know that it's you
know, you should probably ask permission before going
in the first person who wants privacy. So
he said, I I sat at the door,
and I,
I waited and the messenger
inside was
basically,
answering the call of nature and then afterward
he was making wudu.
And so there's there's a there's a number
of things. 1 is, like, look at the
adab that he had and look at the
intelligence that he had also.
That he figured all the stuff out instead
of barging in or knocking, what's going on
or whatever. A person thinks, like, you know,
looks at the situation around them and thinks,
like, what's going on and tries to figure
things out
in in the least intrusive way possible. So
he figured out that he was he was
answering the call of nature and then that
he was making wudu, so he gave him
the time to do that. He didn't interrupt
what the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam was doing.
Right? This is one of the things that
nowadays people say, oh,
you know, I'm I heard the hadith about,
Abu Musa al Ashari,
and he, spent the day with the prophet
So I'm gonna do that today. I'm gonna
go and visit sheikh so and so, and
then I'm gonna spend the day with him.
But what is it? You come in and
you expect chai and you expect to eat
something and then you expect to chitchat.
You know, people have things to do. You
can't waste their time like that. And the
thing is that, you know, you may wanna
hang out with somebody because like, as if
you're their friend, but, like, you may not
be you may not be your friend. They
may not enjoy your company. They may you
may have nothing to offer them. So if
you're going to go and keep the company
of other people, whether it's the ulama or
the pious or the righteous or of your
elders
or even anyone else, this even doesn't just
count for Muslims. This is, like, common sense.
Right? Even if, like, for example, if you
wanna make friends with somebody, if you want
to, like, get in with a professor at
school because his that lab is the one
that you wanna, you know, get you know,
you wanna, do research in for your master's
degree or for your PhD. That person is
the one you want to be your adviser
or whatever. There's adab to making
making friends with somebody,
and the key is to make yourself useful.
The key is to make yourself what?
Useful.
If you're a useful person, people will like
you. If you're a useful person, a girl
will marry you even if you're not like
the most handsome
person in the world. Okay? If you're useful,
people will make du'a for you when you're
gone. If you're useful, even people who don't
like you will end up liking you. If
you're useful,
I I have you know, there's so many
instances I've seen. I know people like, imagine
you're gonna get a job in corporate America.
Right? You wanna actually get the job, what
are you gonna do? You're gonna dress up
in a in a turban and in a
jubba, or you're gonna wear a suit and
tie
to your interview? What are you gonna do?
What are you gonna do when you?
You're probably gonna wear a suit and tie.
I know people who go to job interviews
in their turbine and Jaba,
in corporate America,
and they get a 100,000 they get 6
figure jobs. Why? Because they're the best at
what they do.
And the guy who's interviewing him may be,
like, the most, like, accurate pro Zionist, like,
Muslim hater in the world. But at the
end of the day, everyone has to get
their job done, and so, they can you
know, people can learn to put their hatred
aside for somebody who's actually useful.
Right? Somebody who's actually useful. And there's so
many instances of that amongst our forefathers.
The the, you know, the Church of the
Holy Sepulcher, which is the
the the kind of the most sacred church
in Jerusalem
to the Christians,
the Church of the Holy Sepulcher, who keeps
the keys to that church?
English. It's a Muslim family that keeps the
keys to it. Why? Because they split the
church. It's a really strange arrangement they have.
They have the church split into 4 parts.
There's the, Orthodox part.
There's the Catholic
part. There's the Ethiopian part, and then there's
the Armenian part. That's it. Those those 4,
they they they split the church,
and they hate each other. They actually, like,
almost, like, every 3, 4 years, they get
in, like, fist fights fights and things like
that because, like, on Easter, they to have
their ceremonies at the same time, and there's,
like, literally lines drawn in the church. And
if one monk steps on the other side,
the other monks will throw them a beat
down. They'll get brooms. It'll be like it'll
be like the seventies Batman, you know, like,
not even the new one, like the old
school. It'll be just bad. You know? Yeah.
Exactly.
You know what I'm talking about. It's just
like that. And so and and so, like
yeah. So what is it? They know that
the Muslim, if you tell him,
you know and that's what he does. It's
the same family for centuries. The guy goes,
whoever the keeper of the key is, he'll
go. He'll read Salatul Fajr and after he's
done making his dhikr, once the sun rises,
he'll go to the church and open the
door. And then on the way to Maghrib,
he'll go close the door and lock it.
They know he's gonna be impartial. He'll do
whatever, you know, whatever the arrangement is, he'll
do it. He's not gonna jostle anybody. He's
not gonna whatever. He's just gonna you know,
he a useful person, a person people can
trust.
And so this is what what what is
what is Abu Musal Ash'ari?
He's doing he goes to visit the prophet
sallallahu alaihi wa sallam, but the expectation is
not that I'm gonna talk to you for
an hour
or I'm going to ask you, you know,
like, I'm not I'm not gonna, like, chitchat
you for an hour. I'm not gonna impose
on you. Rather, I'm there to do your
khidma, and I'll learn from you by just
observing, by by observing things. And I will
be observant.
Right? That's the other thing is there's so
many things you can learn by observing something
somebody. You can learn so many things by
observing someone. You don't have to ask questions.
This culture is a culture that encourages asking
a lot of questions.
Asking a lot of questions. They'd say over
here there's no such thing as a stupid
question. Just ask your questions. Unfortunately,
because of my experience, I cannot believe that
to be true because I've heard a lot
of stupid questions in my life. Okay? But
the thing is this, fine. If you have
a reason, a point, there's something to ask
and it's like very relevant to what's going
on right now and there's some benefit in
it and whatever, you know, you're asking for
the sake of increasing your knowledge, even then,
that's good. Even in our tradition, we consider
that to be good as well.
But, you you know, if you're a person
the more you go through life, you'll realize
sometimes you'll get more information out of a
person by being silent than you will by
asking, especially when there's there's very sensitive type
of information.
When you ask, you put someone, their defenses
up, their guards up, or you annoy them.
And once a person is annoyed, he won't
even tell you what he normally would have
told you. You understand what I'm saying? Whereas
sometimes somebody you can see, you have to
look and observe. If Somebody is in, like,
a certain emotional state,
right, or they want to vent or whatever,
they may tell you their credit card number
and their Social Security number and not even
realize it. And if you ask, oh, what
did you say? It was against

what? Then they'll they'll realize, oh, this guy
told them too much and they'll be quiet.
Whereas if you're they'll they'll they'll they'll, like,
pull themselves back. Whereas if you're just silent,
right, if you're just silent,
you'll hear all sorts of things that you
weren't supposed to hear in the first place.
Right? There's an art and the art to
know when to talk, when to you'll get
more information by asking and when you'll get
more information by being silent. This art is
completely it's completely built on observation.
Being able to observe somebody
and figure out what state of mind that
they're in. And this is a this is
what they say, you know, this is what
there's a saying in almost every
language that the Muslims speak. They say that
if you're smart enough, then even even a
person like a glance or like a a
gesture that they make, you'll understand what they're
trying to say just by, like, their body
language. You don't have to wait for them
to be told. And the the, you know,
that's for an intelligent person, you know? For
an idiot, you can tell them explicitly a
1000 times and they still won't they still
won't understand. So be an observant person and
see what's so Sayedna Abu Musa al-'Ash Ali,
he figured out that the prophet
is probably answering the call of nature and
that that he's making wudu, so he waited
for him to finish. He didn't interrupt.
Then after after he was finished, he says,
then I I got up and I went
to I went to him, and,
I saw him. He was sitting, you know,
there's a garden around this well. There's a
door to this, like, this garden or orchard
that's surrounded by this well, which is a
source of water.
And then,
he saw the Messenger of Allah
sitting in there you know how like the
well is a hole in the ground but
they usually build up like some,
you know, a little wall or something like
that to keep animals and things out. Right?
So there's there's there's a partial wall around
the well and so the Messenger of Allah
sallallahu alaihi wa sallam is sitting on the
wall in the middle of it and his
feet are dangling in the
in the in the well, and they're they're
dangling in the water,
which is a very comfortable thing to do
especially because Arabia is very hot.
See, I keep this on my phone sometimes
just for my
own curiosity.
Right now, it's, 83 degrees in Rockford,
and it's 81 degrees in the middle of
the night in Medina, a high of 107,
and 84 in Makamukarama,
a high of 109.
So, you know, you could see how somebody
would
enjoy putting their feet in cool water. The
water that comes up from the earth, it's
of a very moderate temperature. It feels warm
in the winter and it feels cool in
the in the summer, but it's just a
very moderate temperature.
So the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam was sitting
like that,
in the middle of he said, I found
him sitting like that in the well.
And this is another thing of the Messenger
of Allah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam. He wasn't overly
formal person, he was a very relaxed person.
There's not a lot lot of protocol. He
was a very relaxed person.
So I said salaam to him,
and then afterward,
he didn't stay to chitchat. He said I
said salaam to him and,
then I went back to the door. And
I said I'll do some service for the
prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam today. I'll be
his doorman
just to ensure that other people don't annoy
make myself useful. He saw the situation, and
so he said, you know, the prophet sallallahu
alaihi wa sallam could use somebody. He looks
like he's relaxing,
you know. And people will come with a
100, like, different questions to ask.
So we'll see if we can't, like, you
know,
make sure to
protect
this small amount of time that he has
to,
that he has to relax
himself.
And so he's sitting like that Sallallahu Alaihi
Wasallam. Abu Musa then goes to the door
and says, today I'll be the doorman of
the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam.
And so he waited at the door and
then Abu Bakr
comes.
And so he knocks at the door, he
pushes the kind of the reed curtain
and
and then I said he's narrating the hadith,
Abu Musa. He's narrating the hadith. He says,
I said, who is it?
And he said, Abu Bakr.
I said, just hold on a second. Just
slow down.
And then he said, I went back to
the messenger of Allah, and I said, oh,
messenger of Allah,
Abu Bakr, he is
asking permission to enter.
And, the Messenger of Allah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam
said what?
He said, give him permission and give him
the glad tidings of Jannah.
And,
he said, then I came back and I
said to Abu Bakr, enter and the Messenger
of Allah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam gives you the
glad tidings of Jannah.
So Abu Bakr entered and then he sat
on that little wall
right on to the right of the Messenger
of Allah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam and he also
dangled his legs in the water and he
also
exposed his shins and dangled his legs in
the water
just like the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alaihi
wa sallam did.
Right? So this is also another thing, right,
that the Prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam, his
companions also,
they respected him, they would do anything for
him, They'd give their life for them, for
him. They'd kill someone for him. They'd do
anything for him. But that respect wasn't like
it wasn't like
like protocol,
like you're a king sitting in a palace,
right? The Prophet
himself was relaxing and he didn't mind if
the Sahaba radiAllahu anhu were relaxed with him,
his companions radiAllahu anhu were relaxed with him.
They understood what things are important, what things
are not important. You know, know, just like
some people, you have, like, this big show
of pomp, like a king has his court
and everyone
lines up and they're according to rank and
this person has this place and, you know,
there's a protocol
of how you're supposed to address the king
or address the queen. And they all rule,
like, these, like, nasty, like, small little countries
in the middle of nowhere that have, like,
horrible winters and, you know, at least in
Rockford, you can grow some corn.
You know, just, you know but they have
this huge royal highness blah blah blah. The
other thing the other thing. And you live
on an island that nobody ever invaded because
there's nothing to take from there. You understand?
There's nothing good there in the first place.
That's that's not how the prophet sallallahu alaihi
wasallam was. He had real dignity and his
companions loved him,
thoroughly, but he didn't waste their time and
they didn't waste his time with protocol. So
Sayidna Abu Bakr radiallahu anhu comes and sits
with the Prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam and
he sat like him and dangled his legs
and he sat to his right and dangled
his legs in the well as well.
Then he said Sayna Abu Musa says, Then
I came, went back to the door,
and I thought to myself,
my brother my brother, when I left the
house, he was making and
he wanted to spend the day with us
too. He wanted to catch up with me
as well.
So,
I thought to myself if Allah wishes good
for him,
you know, he'll catch up with me as
well. Why?
Because the last person who came through the
door, the prophet and asked for permission to
enter the prophet
gave him the bashar, the glad tidings of
Jannah. So he says, if my brother, Allah
wishes good for him, he'll get in on
this. This is this is a good deal
to get in on the action here, you
know.
And so he that's he said, that's what
I thought to myself.
Then another, person came and, like, moved the
the the the that reed door
that that was hanging in the doorway,
And,
I asked who is it? And he said,
Umr ibn Khattab.
I said, just hold on a second. And
so I went to the Messenger of Allah
sallallahu alaihi wa sallam,
and I said salaam to him
and
sorry I said salaam to him and I
said,
Omar is here and he's asking for permission
to enter. The Messenger of Allah Sallallahu Alaihi
Wasallam said to me, give him permission and
give him the glad tidings of Jannah.
And I came to Omar and I said,
the messenger of Allah gives permission
and he gives you glad tidings of Jannah.
And so Abu Musa continues, he says, so
Umar entered in and he sat next to
the Messenger of Allah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam on
this wall,
to the left of him Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam
and he dipped his feet
into the well.
And then Abu Musa says that I
came back to the door and I sat
again.
And I thought it I thought to myself
again, if Allah ta'ala wishes good for my
brother, you know, he'll he'll come. He'll bring
him. And then another person comes and pushes
on the door
and he says, who is this?
And he says, it's Uthman ibn Affan.
And I said, Hold on a second. So
I went to the Messenger of Allah sallallahu
alaihi wa sallam and I told him
and, he sallallahu alaihi wa sallam said to
me, give him permission and give him the
glad tidings of Jannah but,
but also that Allah will test him severely.
And so I came to him and I
said, come,
enter,
the Messenger of Allah gives you the glad
tidings of Jannah, but after a severe test.
And so he entered in and he,
he found that that
wall, it's a very small well, that wall
around the well, there's no more space in
it. The prophet there's the 3 of them,
there's enough space for 3 of them. So
the prophet
is like a triangle. Right? And Saidna Abu
Bakr
saidna Amar
saidna
the space is filled.
So he said there's a little there's a
little, place to sit,
not on the well but across from where
the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam is sitting.
So he sat he sat there across from
the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam so you could
see his face.
And
Shuraykh,
he narrates from
Sa'id bin Musayib.
Right? Shureyik is one of the olema of
the Tabat Tabi'in and Sa'id bin Musayyib
is one of the olema of the Tabi'in.
In fact, the most considered to be the
most learned of the ulema of the Tabi'in.
And Sayyid bin Musayb when he was explaining
this hadith or he was narrating it
to Shureikh, he
said to Shureikh, he said that this was
this thing that happened,
this is the
this is a it was a
prophecy regarding
the way their graves will be. That the
Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam saidna Abu Bakr and
saidna Umar,
their graves are together and Sayna Uthman, his
grave is in the in the batigh. It's
in the graveyard,
because the the the the kind of party
or
the the the the band of people who
assassinated Sayidna Uthman
there's a lot of them. There it is
like an insurgency. They kind of overthrew Madinah
for
for for
several weeks.
And,
they refused to let Sayna Uthman be buried
with the Prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam. Right?
Because the Baluah,
the severe trial and test is his assassination.
Comes in another
narration that the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alaihi
wa sallam told Tedna Uthman that this this
Ummah will kill you or will kill you
in zulum.
And,
so the Saidna Uthman asked him radiAllahu ta'ala
and who asked him
what should I do when that happens? He
says don't fight back. Just
be patient. Don't fight back.
And so they killed him
in
and, then they refused to allow him to
be buried with the prophet
said, Omar Said Abu Bakr radiAllahu anhu. So
he was buried
next to them, not that far, just walking
distance in the Jannatun Ba'payeeh In the Bapia,
the graveyard which is right next to the
Messenger of Allah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam's Masjid and
under the cover of night, he was buried
there.
And
And so
this incident that happened was a
foretelling of what that arrangement would be that
the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam and Sayna Abu
Bakr and Sayna Umar are together and then
across from them is who?
Sayna Uthman
So the Messenger of Allah
gave them the
the glad tidings of Jannah. So
look at and so in
And also in other narration
that Sayidina Akhmad radiAllahu ta'ala Anhu when he
received the bashala, the glad tiding of Jannah
and
the
warning regarding the severe trial,
when he heard
the glad tidings of Jannah,
he made the he praised Allah. He said,
Alhamdulillah.
And then when he heard
the warning regarding severe trial, he said, Allah
Allah is the one who helped Assad from.
But notice this, right?
You learned a lot during this. 1st you
say salaam to the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam,
you make the khidma of the Prophet Sallallahu
Alaihi Wasallam and
you learn from his knowledge who are the
people who are close to him, who are
the people who are
beloved to him. If you just walked in
and said,
hey, I was wondering, who are your friends?
Or who's going to Jannah? Tell me the
list of people who's going to Jannah.
What type of response would that have
deserved?
Get out of here. Get lost. What kind
of question is that? Right? But he was
just quiet and he was just observing. Look
how much
he learned.
It was a conversation that he was originally
not a part of, but because of his
usefulness, he was included in it as well.
It's something it's something to take a lesson
from.
Who narrates a hadith
that we were
sitting around the messenger of Allah sallallahu alaihi
wa sallam,
myself and a number of people,
when including Abu Bakr and including Omar aliawahaan
Homa.
When Nabi
got up and excused himself to do something.
And it took, you know,
a long time passed and he didn't come
back.
He didn't come back quickly.
And so, I you know, finally, we began
to get nervous at what happened to him.
And we were afraid that maybe maybe someone
nabbed him or somebody, you know, harmed him
somehow.
And we became afraid of that, so we
got up.
And I was the first one to get
up.
Why? Because the messenger of Allah sallallahu alaihi
wa sallam had many enemies during his lifetime,
between Quraysh and between different Bedouin tribes that
that they had fought with from before, between
just random people who, you you know, someone
may be paid to assassinate the Prophet
and someone may be paid to abduct the
Prophet
There are a number of people who had
it in for him
And so, you know, they were keenly aware
of that, that there's always threats over the
horizon.
And so after a while, you know, he
come back in a time that we thought,
you know, he would come back
within.
So we all became scared, and we started
to look for him. So he said, I
was the first one to become scared, and
I was the first one who started to
look for him. So we scrambled to look
for him and,
I left. I went out from the Masjid
looking for the Messenger Raul Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam
until I came to a walled garden that
belonged to the Ansar,
to someone from the Ansar from the clan
of of Banu Najjar.
And that walled garden, I thought maybe he's
inside of this walled garden. So he said,
I walked all the way around the walled
garden, and I didn't find any entrance to
it. It was walled from the entire way
around. I found no entrance to it.
But all I saw was
there's a a well outside of the garden
and a small channel, a small canal that
was cut
that from which water comes from
through that channel to irrigate the the plants
inside of the garden.
And the opening for the channel is very
small.

And so
this hadith is narrated with this verb,
Iftifar and Iftifaz.
It's narrated both ways. Ihtifar means I dug
a little bit
around it to get through that channel.
Ihtifaz means to close your close yourself up
and to just kind of squeeze through.
And so he says that I
I I made Iktifar like a fox.
Right? So does it mean I dug like
a fox or does it mean that I
scrunched myself up like a fox to get
through the hole? These foxes are
foxes,
they're very foxy. They get through they're, like,
you know, they're very sneaky and able to
get, you know, through stuff. Like one of
the kids did yesterday.
They entered one tent and then they went
through the other ones and like, you know,
like, yeah. I saw the kid go in
and then they're hiding.
Yeah,
You know, like very sneaky
and we can use those skills for good
things in the future
instead
of avoidance.
So so, is yeah. You see that. Like,
they're like, animals like, some animals, they can
do that. They can get through like, scrunch
their body up in such a way. They
can get through incredibly small spaces. Human beings,
I guess some people are better at that
than others
but may not have the same ability. But
he said, I scrunched myself up like a
fox where I dug through it like a
fox and I got through the hole where
that little canal comes in
and I got into the garden.
And I saw the Messenger of Allah
inside of it and he said, Abu Huraira?
And
I said, Yes, O Messenger of Allah.
He said, What's what's Mashatnuka, what's your deal?
Well, you know, what are you what are
you here for?
And so I said,
You Rasulah, you were
amongst us
and you got up and you took a
long time to come back and we were
afraid that something had happened to you,
that something had happened to you and so
we all became very afraid.
And I was the first one who, we
all scrambled to look for you and I
was the first one who scrambled to look
for you.
So
I I came to this garden and I
dug a hole,
like a like a fox digs a hole,
to get in or I
I scrunched myself through, like a fox scrunches
himself through a tight space to get in
And,
all the other people are behind me looking
for you. And,
so the Nabi sallallahu alaihi wa sallam said,
oh, Abu Hurairah,
And then he gave me his 2 sandals,
his 2 Mubarak sandals, and
he says, go with these 2 sandals
of mine
and whoever you meet
behind me, the people who are looking for
me, whoever you meet
that bears witness that there is no god
except for Allah Ta'ala,
and has
has complete certainty of that in his heart.
Go give them the glad tidings of Jannah.
And then,
the Hadith goes on. There's more to the
Hadith,
interesting things that happen but this is the
relevant part because this hadith is being narrated
in the chapter regarding giving people glad tidings.
So he says take these 2 sandals of
mine so people know that you're coming from
me
and and tell tell them who give them
all of them glad tidings that whoever believes
in Allah ta'ala that there's no god except
for him and has Yatin, has certainty in
his heart of that, that person, give them
the glad tidings of.
Is everyone familiar with this hadith, the rest
of it, or do you want me to
tell you what happens with the rest of
it?
Yeah. Yeah.
So the first person, Sadna Abu Bayra
meets,
lucky for him, Sadna Umar.
So he's very excited. He says, oh look,
I found the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alaihi
wa sallam. These are his two sandals
and he said he said to say,
whoever says La ilaha illa and has certainty
of it in his heart, that person will
enter Jannah.
So so Abu Hurair then says that, Sayna
Umar
he hit me in my chest so hard
that I fell onto my backside. He knocked
me off my feet. I fell on my
backside.
He said he hit me so hard and
he scared me so much that I started
to cry.
Right? When you're a kid, if you get
hit, you cry. When you're an elder, you
can get beat down pretty hard or you
you don't cry. This is not a reaction
that happens. He says, but it, like, scared
him. Like, this really, like, scared him. Why?
Because Omar is, a, a very respected person
and he's also a very big person and
he's a very tough person. He was so
big that they say that if you saw
him coming from far away, people thought he
was, you know, someone
someone riding a horse. Then when he came
close enough to say, I was just Omar.
He's just that big of a guy. So
he said he knocked me onto my backside
and then he grabbed me and says, Where
is the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alaihi wa
sallam? And he
goes over there. So he dragged me over
there.
And so what happens is that he has
me like held in his grip
and so I come to the Messenger of
Allah
Put your feet
elsewhere. So he said he had me in
my grip
and his grip and then the Messenger of
Allah
says to him, Omar release
him. So you release me, let me go.
And so then once he releases him,
Abu Uyghur
immediately complains to the Prophet
he says,
I I took your 2 sandals,
and I did exactly what you told me
to do, which was to tell whoever you
meet on the way
that that that whoever believes in Allah with
full certainty in his heart that there's no
god except for him, that person will enter
Jannah.
And Umar hit me so hard that I
fell on my backside
and I started to cry.
And so the Prophet
says to Sayyidina Amr, he's like, really? Did
you do that?
He says, yes. And then he goes, why
did you do it? Right? He didn't say
like, oh,
you know, look at you, you're a munafiq.
You don't listen to what I said, this,
that and He didn't do that. Right?
This is not all the sahaba didn't have
this relationship with
the Prophet There's very few of them, like
a handful of them that were like this.
Right? Most of them, their sha'en was what?
We hear and we obey. There are few
people who are senior enough of a position
that they understood when the prophet
said to do something, they understood why he
was saying
what he was saying.
And they were they would enforce his commandments
not based on the word of the commandment,
but the spirit of the commandment.
Not everyone was like Abu Bakr was like
this, Sayna Amr radiallahu and who was like
this. There's a few there are a few
of them that were like this, not a
whole lot of them. Those are the fuqaha
from amongst the Sahaba
and say, Nahali is like this
And so you'll find these incidents where something
like this will happen, where whereas the normal
mass of the Sahaba would never do something
like this, but these people were people the
prophet gave them a training in ijazah,
you know, to to because they understood the
sunnah inside out. That's why the prophet sallallahu
alaihi wasallam, everybody during his lifetime that had
a problem, they didn't used to come to
him. He appointed Sayidna Ali as a judge.
He appointed Sayidna Umar as a judge, Sayidna,
you know, Abdullah bin Mas'ud and Sayna Zayd
bin Fabbid as like Quran teachers. There was
a lot of stuff. People wouldn't come to
him directly because he'd already taught a lot
of these things to people. They were functionally,
fully functional representatives of the
Prophet even during his life.
And so what happens is he asked Sayyidina,
why did you do that? He said, You
Rasulullah,
I know what
you're trying to say is true,
but I just feared that if he goes
and spreads this amongst everybody, then the people
will become lazy. They'll stop
they'll stop,
they'll stop trying so hard
for they'll stop trying so hard, you know,
with in terms of their deen. And there's
a hikmah with that also. Right? Because if
you stop trying,
then that iman will weaken in your heart
that yaping will go
and you'll think you've got jannah for free
But the thing that's gonna get you in
is gone now, it's left you. Right? That's
why otherwise, mashaAllah, everybody here believes
in in their heart. Otherwise, they wouldn't be
here on a Sunday afternoon and not having
eaten for like whatever 14 hours, 16 hours
and like, you know, you wouldn't be here
listening to all of this,
hadith read in a foreign language. It's because
of your iman that you're here. So then
you might say, well, why are you busting
my chops for playing ping pong? It's a
reasonable question.
It's because I want the iman to stay
there.
InshaAllah, then when you're in Jannah, you can
play ping pong all you want.
Nobody will say no to you.
There is no itikaf in Jannah. There's no
salat in Jannah. You don't have to keep
a beard in Jannah. Right? You don't have
to ask is the mitzabiha or not?
You can you can you can have an
e cigarette if you want to.
You know what I mean? There's no those
problems those are different. There's no prob those
problems are not problems over here, you know?
Here in this in this dunya, if your
father catches you looking at a girl, your
mother catches you looking at a girl, she'll
probably take a shoe and hit you. Over
there, it's not like that, it's not it's
not gonna be like that. You understand what
I'm saying? It's a completely different setup, just
get there first. Right?
That's what when when someone asked Muhammed Tharaj
Jamil one time,
you know, says, okay, fine, cigarettes. Muhammed Tharaj
Jamil is very harsh about smoking. He's very
harsh against smoking. He tells people, he says
haram, don't do it, quit. And people who
say, I can't quit, I'm too addicted, He
says to him, he says, okay, just do
this for me. Right? If you have to
smoke a cigarette, just swear to me that
you'll only smoke in one place, in the
bathroom, in the toilet. Right? The bathrooms are
not like over here. Here we have some
very 5 star bathrooms. Right? Pakistan, most of
the bathrooms is a squat toilet. It's like
a little cell. You have to squat in
there. So you can just see some poor
guy.
He just don't be on his beard, and
he's like, you know, 40 days or whatever.
And he's just like, it's just so sad
he's smoking a cigarette and he's, you know,
like
just so just so just to kill the,
like, whatever
enjoyment. You know, there's some of the smokers
have, like, this camaraderie. It's a cold day,
but they'll kind of huddle together and have
a cigarette outside. There's some friendship and some
socializing that happens. There's all of that just
to kill all of it. Right? So
someone asked,
okay, fine. In this world, we accept that
there's no smoking. We can't smoke in this
world. How about in Jannah? What if someone
likes smoking? Can they smoke over there? He
said it comes
in a hadith that there's no fire in
Jannah
So you can have the cigarette over there
if you want to, but if you want
to light it up, you have to go
somewhere else

the hadith there,
talk during the English part, not during the
Arabic part.
That's okay. That applies to him too.

He's much older than me. That's why I'm
looking at you. I'm trying not to be
a jerk, but it applies to everybody. Okay?
The reason is what? That these hadith are
narrated with
unbroken chains of transmission.
And the other is when you hear something
the prophet
said that you should listen as if you're
listening to him, sallallahu alaihi wa sallam. And
if you hear something that a Sahabi said,
then you should listen like you're listening to
the Sahabi
And then the English part is what I'm
saying. You can talk during that time as
long as you're not being like super wildly
disruptive. I won't say anything. Okay?
Abu Shamasa who is one of the Tabireem,
he said I
attended to Amr bin Asr
the companion of the Messenger of
SAW when he was
dying,
when he was in the
throes of death
Who's
can somebody attend to that, please?
No.
So I was attending to,
Amr bin Assur
when he is in the throes of death
and he was just crying for a very
long time
and he was in such a state that
he turned his face toward the wall. He
didn't want to see anyone. He didn't want
to talk to anyone. He was just in
such a state of despair.
And,
his son said to him,
the son of
actually accepted Islam before his father.
He accepted Islam before his father did. And
they say there's 13 years of difference between
them in age. So they're companions with each
other, in a way they're father and son
but they're also in a way they're companions.
And so his son said to him,
and in a way his son is the
senior of the 2.
In Islam, his son is the senior of
the 2. And his father told the prophet
commanded him especially to,
to not let that obscure the respect that
he should show him as a father. But
otherwise as a Sahabi, his rank is senior
to that of his father.
So so because of that, he stuck to
him.
He stuck to him and he stayed with
him, you know, throughout his day. They were
like companions with one another. And so when
he saw him in such a state, he
says, oh my dear father,
didn't the messenger of Allah sallallahu alaihi wa
sallam give you glad tidings of such and
such? Didn't the Messenger of Allah SAW
give you glad tidings of such and such?
And so because when he remembered the basharah,
the glad tidings of the Messenger of Allah
SAW
Wa
Salam.
He, you know, he got out of that
state where he's just weeping and facing the
wall and he turns around and faces him
and he
says,
let me tell you something.
The the the best thing that I,
I I prepared
or that I count from amongst my deeds
is the,
the shahada, the witness, the testimony that there's
no God except for Allah and that Muhammad
sallallahu alaihi wa sallam is the messenger of
Allah.
He said that in my life I've been
on 3 in 3 states.
I've been in 3 states. This is this
is the this is the the the fakah
of Amr bin Asr We
talked about him being a very intelligent person
yesterday as well.
That he understand he understood that
that a person when they die, it's the
state they're in that they die that counts,
not something that happened in the past. It's
the same thing. Okay. Fine. Everyone has iman
right now, but who knows what a person
will die on? That's why you keep working
hard and struggling and striving in in order
to keep your iman up,
because who knows what state a person will
die on. So he says I've been in
my life. I have passed 3 phases in
my life.
One phase was what?
One phase was that I that there was
nobody that hated the Messenger of Allah Sallallahu
Alaihi Wasallam more than I.
And he said that there's nothing more beloved
to me in that at that time that
I should one day be be in a
position of so much power over him that
I could kill him, that I was able
to kill him. So what a what a
harsh thing to say but it was the
truth. That's how much they aided the prophet
sallallahu alaihi wasallam.
He said if I died in that in
that state, I would have been from a
monk's deep, I would have indeed been a
monk's deep peopled the fire.
Then the then Allah ta'ala put
Islam in my heart and such a time
came that I came to the Messenger of
Allah sallallahu alaihi wa sallam and I told
him to spread your right hand so that
I can,
take
give you my oath of allegiance.
And so he spread his right hand, but
I pulled my hand back
and I said,
and he said to me,
oh, Amr, what's what's your deal? What's your
problem?
And he said, I wish to
put a condition on my oath of allegiance.
And the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam asked him,
put what condition?
He said, I want to put a condition
that and Yulfar Ali I want to put
a condition that
I'm forgiven. If I do this then I'm
forgiven for all my sins.
And then the prophet
said to him, didn't you know that Islam
destroys all the sins that came before it
and that Hijra destroys all the sins that
came before it and that Hajj destroys all
the sins that came before it?
And at this point, someone always asks or
thinks or whatever emails me later from listening
to the recording, well, what if somebody killed
somebody? What if they owe them money? What
if this? What if that? Your obligations on
people are obligations, they're not sins. If you
owe someone money, it's not a sin, it's
an obligation.
