For everything.

00:00:41 --> 00:00:42

I

00:00:42 --> 00:00:44

learned yesterday that,

00:00:46 --> 00:00:47

was headed to the hospital,

00:00:48 --> 00:00:50

because of a brain tumor

00:00:51 --> 00:00:53

or some mass they found in his

00:00:53 --> 00:00:54

in his brain

00:00:54 --> 00:00:56

and that they needed to operate on it

00:00:56 --> 00:00:57

immediately.

00:00:58 --> 00:01:00

And in surgery, they confirmed it, in fact,

00:01:00 --> 00:01:01

was a tumor.

00:01:03 --> 00:01:05

After a very long surgery,

00:01:06 --> 00:01:07

6 hours or more,

00:01:09 --> 00:01:11

They removed a great deal of the tumor.

00:01:11 --> 00:01:13

Obviously, when you're operating on the brain, you

00:01:13 --> 00:01:14

have to be a bit conservative,

00:01:16 --> 00:01:16

because

00:01:17 --> 00:01:19

taking out too much is gonna cause other

00:01:19 --> 00:01:21

problems. So whatever

00:01:21 --> 00:01:22

the residual,

00:01:23 --> 00:01:25

mass is there in his

00:01:25 --> 00:01:28

head, still needs to be treated. But right

00:01:28 --> 00:01:28

now,

00:01:28 --> 00:01:30

he I'm told he's, recovering,

00:01:31 --> 00:01:33

that he can speak, and that he's kinda

00:01:33 --> 00:01:34

cognizant of what's going on.

00:01:35 --> 00:01:35

And,

00:01:36 --> 00:01:37

he was also,

00:01:39 --> 00:01:41

you know, alert and aware. So

00:01:42 --> 00:01:44

in that sense, we're thankful that the

00:01:45 --> 00:01:48

the the surgery didn't cause any damage of

00:01:48 --> 00:01:49

of that type.

00:01:49 --> 00:01:51

But I wanted to say a couple of

00:01:51 --> 00:01:52

things about why,

00:01:53 --> 00:01:55

you know, he's an important person to me

00:01:55 --> 00:01:55

at least,

00:01:57 --> 00:01:59

that he's a true lover of knowledge,

00:02:00 --> 00:02:03

that he, like myself, and unlike many

00:02:04 --> 00:02:05

of the the

00:02:06 --> 00:02:09

scholars of our generation or people who serve

00:02:09 --> 00:02:12

in our generation. He actually went to university,

00:02:12 --> 00:02:14

graduated from university first,

00:02:15 --> 00:02:17

and then went to study. Not to say

00:02:17 --> 00:02:19

anything good or bad about such people, but

00:02:19 --> 00:02:20

it's definitely a different trajectory.

00:02:21 --> 00:02:23

And so I appreciated that that he also

00:02:23 --> 00:02:24

had a certain

00:02:24 --> 00:02:27

type of shared sensibility, and he also was

00:02:27 --> 00:02:28

somebody that I can,

00:02:29 --> 00:02:31

kinda talk to about

00:02:32 --> 00:02:35

what the pitfalls also of having that experience

00:02:35 --> 00:02:36

are and how to avoid them.

00:02:37 --> 00:02:38

He was a person who kept

00:02:39 --> 00:02:42

regular touch with a great number of scholars

00:02:42 --> 00:02:43

from around the world.

00:02:43 --> 00:02:45

He's a person who still loves books. He

00:02:45 --> 00:02:47

has one of the best,

00:02:47 --> 00:02:50

private collections that are not funded through government

00:02:50 --> 00:02:51

or institution, which

00:02:56 --> 00:02:57

is

00:02:59 --> 00:03:02

largely which is largely patronized by his family

00:03:02 --> 00:03:03

amongst other people.

00:03:04 --> 00:03:06

And, he is also a person who taught

00:03:06 --> 00:03:08

without charging students money

00:03:10 --> 00:03:11

from Nahru Ansar

00:03:12 --> 00:03:13

all the way through reading the Hidayah, which

00:03:13 --> 00:03:15

is a very difficult book. If you wanna

00:03:15 --> 00:03:17

know how difficult the Hidayah is,

00:03:18 --> 00:03:20

then ask a Darshan Zami graduate

00:03:21 --> 00:03:22

to tell you some of the things they

00:03:22 --> 00:03:23

learned from the Hidaya, and they'll probably say

00:03:23 --> 00:03:24

it was very difficult.

00:03:26 --> 00:03:27

And

00:03:28 --> 00:03:30

there's a rare passion for teaching and learning

00:03:30 --> 00:03:32

that very few people have, and it's not

00:03:32 --> 00:03:35

something that's gonna produce great numbers

00:03:36 --> 00:03:38

or something that's gonna be very glamorous.

00:03:38 --> 00:03:38

But

00:03:39 --> 00:03:41

those people who know what it means, you

00:03:41 --> 00:03:42

know, to them, it means a lot.

00:03:43 --> 00:03:44

He did a a lot of service and

00:03:44 --> 00:03:46

continues to do a lot of service for,

00:03:47 --> 00:03:48

Islam in America.

00:03:48 --> 00:03:50

One of the things I collaborated with,

00:03:51 --> 00:03:51

him on

00:03:53 --> 00:03:53

was the

00:03:55 --> 00:03:55

work on

00:03:56 --> 00:03:57

Halal in America,

00:03:59 --> 00:03:59

before

00:04:00 --> 00:04:03

he started his project, and I joined him.

00:04:03 --> 00:04:06

There's no certifier in America that

00:04:06 --> 00:04:08

actually openly and transparently

00:04:13 --> 00:04:14

opaque marketplace

00:04:16 --> 00:04:19

that was run on word-of-mouth and on trust,

00:04:19 --> 00:04:21

which was not being fulfilled in any place

00:04:21 --> 00:04:22

I could see,

00:04:23 --> 00:04:25

to a degree that satisfies me

00:04:25 --> 00:04:26

and,

00:04:27 --> 00:04:30

to a standard that seemed to be according

00:04:30 --> 00:04:31

to any Sharia that I could tell.

00:04:32 --> 00:04:34

And, we put in a lot of work

00:04:34 --> 00:04:36

and effort, and the 2 of us agreed

00:04:36 --> 00:04:37

that we would not take

00:04:37 --> 00:04:39

remuneration for that work.

00:04:39 --> 00:04:40

Even though there wouldn't have been anything wrong

00:04:40 --> 00:04:42

with it, but it would have been a

00:04:42 --> 00:04:43

fitna to the home because people are so

00:04:43 --> 00:04:44

in love with money, so in love with

00:04:44 --> 00:04:46

money. If they see somebody

00:04:46 --> 00:04:48

taking anything, it becomes a fitna for them.

00:04:49 --> 00:04:51

So in order to in order to not

00:04:51 --> 00:04:53

be a fitna for them, we said we'll

00:04:53 --> 00:04:54

do this for the sake of Allah. We'll

00:04:54 --> 00:04:56

employ other people, but we ourselves will be

00:04:56 --> 00:04:58

at the helm of it and do the

00:04:58 --> 00:05:01

majority of the work. We wrote legal contracts

00:05:01 --> 00:05:03

in days that we couldn't afford a lawyer.

00:05:03 --> 00:05:05

We used to spend and buy tickets out

00:05:05 --> 00:05:07

of our own pockets. We used to make

00:05:07 --> 00:05:09

negotiations with corporate entities, with legal and governmental

00:05:09 --> 00:05:10

entities, governmental entities,

00:05:11 --> 00:05:14

took trainings from different certification bodies around the

00:05:14 --> 00:05:16

world on our own dime largely.

00:05:17 --> 00:05:17

And,

00:05:17 --> 00:05:18

it was,

00:05:19 --> 00:05:21

you know, something we did for the sake

00:05:21 --> 00:05:22

of Allah, and it's a sign of his

00:05:23 --> 00:05:24

piety and his righteousness

00:05:25 --> 00:05:27

that to this day, people accuse him of

00:05:28 --> 00:05:30

being some sort of, like, a mafia guy

00:05:30 --> 00:05:31

who's making business out of all of this

00:05:31 --> 00:05:33

and making money to the point where I've

00:05:33 --> 00:05:34

had even other scholars

00:05:35 --> 00:05:37

say, oh, you know, he the only reason

00:05:37 --> 00:05:39

he certifies this business is because he owns

00:05:39 --> 00:05:40

a share in it or whatever.

00:05:40 --> 00:05:42

And, Allah knows what the

00:05:43 --> 00:05:45

is. And all I can think of is

00:05:46 --> 00:05:48

that Allah doesn't take from a person except

00:05:48 --> 00:05:50

for these types of roadblocks are customary for

00:05:50 --> 00:05:51

those who he accepts from.

00:05:52 --> 00:05:54

And, he wasn't perfect. One of the things

00:05:54 --> 00:05:55

that I

00:05:56 --> 00:05:57

one of the reasons I trust him is

00:05:57 --> 00:05:58

because he wears his heart on his sleeve.

00:05:58 --> 00:06:00

He's not a good man at deceiving people.

00:06:00 --> 00:06:03

So sometimes maybe someone had a communication with

00:06:03 --> 00:06:04

him that was up or down

00:06:05 --> 00:06:07

or that, may not have gone as well

00:06:07 --> 00:06:08

as a person wishes. So my request to

00:06:08 --> 00:06:09

those people is

00:06:10 --> 00:06:12

on his behalf and on my own, because

00:06:12 --> 00:06:15

I'm somewhat like that as well, is forgiveness

00:06:16 --> 00:06:17

at times like this.

00:06:18 --> 00:06:19

He has a number of children. I I

00:06:19 --> 00:06:21

think the oldest of which is 18 or

00:06:21 --> 00:06:21

older,

00:06:22 --> 00:06:24

Jabir, and the youngest of which are are,

00:06:24 --> 00:06:25

you know, small children.

00:06:26 --> 00:06:28

And, he's only about a year older than

00:06:28 --> 00:06:30

me, And this all happened relatively recently. I,

00:06:30 --> 00:06:32

myself, didn't know anything about it until yesterday,

00:06:33 --> 00:06:34

and then I was told

00:06:34 --> 00:06:36

that he's been suffering, like, headaches and things

00:06:36 --> 00:06:38

like that for the last couple of months.

00:06:38 --> 00:06:40

So it's relatively recent

00:06:41 --> 00:06:43

that these things could happen to anybody.

00:06:43 --> 00:06:44

So we make dua for him and we

00:06:44 --> 00:06:46

make dua for a number of people. I

00:06:46 --> 00:06:47

put up

00:06:47 --> 00:06:49

the the the post that we'll gather together

00:06:49 --> 00:06:51

to make dikr and dua, and people will

00:06:52 --> 00:06:52

make

00:06:53 --> 00:06:55

on behalf of him and on behalf of

00:06:55 --> 00:06:56

others

00:06:56 --> 00:06:57

and their own.

00:07:00 --> 00:07:02

But after, you know, putting that, a number

00:07:02 --> 00:07:05

of requests came for other people. One brother,

00:07:05 --> 00:07:06

his father,

00:07:06 --> 00:07:08

you know, he just had a heart attack

00:07:08 --> 00:07:11

and is in surgery as we speak.

00:07:12 --> 00:07:14

And other, sisters said I'm going through a

00:07:14 --> 00:07:15

number of difficulties and problems.

00:07:16 --> 00:07:17

I need the as well. We make it

00:07:17 --> 00:07:19

on for Mufti Saab, but also for the

00:07:19 --> 00:07:22

entire Ummah, Sayidina Muhammad sallallahu alaihi wa sallam

00:07:22 --> 00:07:25

as an act of worship because the point

00:07:25 --> 00:07:27

of dua is not to inform Allah of

00:07:27 --> 00:07:28

our needs, but the point of dua is

00:07:28 --> 00:07:29

what? To show

00:07:30 --> 00:07:31

our slave hood and our need of him,

00:07:32 --> 00:07:35

to show it to him so that he'd

00:07:35 --> 00:07:36

be pleased with us, and he's pleased with

00:07:36 --> 00:07:38

us showing. Showing. Otherwise, he was the one

00:07:38 --> 00:07:39

who always fulfilled all of our needs in

00:07:39 --> 00:07:40

the first place.

00:07:41 --> 00:07:43

And so this is something that we learned

00:07:43 --> 00:07:44

from our

00:07:45 --> 00:07:48

that a person oftentimes they're obstructed from getting

00:07:48 --> 00:07:50

things that that are their provision

00:07:50 --> 00:07:52

because of their sins. And so one of

00:07:52 --> 00:07:54

the good things to do when asking Allah

00:07:54 --> 00:07:55

is to make Tawbah

00:07:55 --> 00:07:58

and that when a person's provision is augmented

00:07:58 --> 00:07:59

and increased through

00:07:59 --> 00:08:02

their worship of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala. So

00:08:02 --> 00:08:04

the zikr is a good thing as well,

00:08:04 --> 00:08:06

and it increases the chances of a dua

00:08:06 --> 00:08:06

being answered.

00:08:07 --> 00:08:07

With regards to others, we have this idea

00:08:07 --> 00:08:08

and really with regards to ourselves as well.

00:08:08 --> 00:08:10

A person says, oh, this is probably so

00:08:10 --> 00:08:12

and so's sin or our sin that we're

00:08:12 --> 00:08:13

being tried for this.

00:08:17 --> 00:08:19

And, you know, what I learned from my

00:08:19 --> 00:08:21

masha'ikh is what? Is that any difficulty you

00:08:21 --> 00:08:23

go through, the first instant of it,

00:08:24 --> 00:08:26

it's already a person goes through difficulty and

00:08:26 --> 00:08:28

has the feeling inside of their heart of,

00:08:28 --> 00:08:30

like, what's happening to me? And they feel

00:08:30 --> 00:08:32

insecure, and they feel kind of shaken and

00:08:32 --> 00:08:33

rocked

00:08:33 --> 00:08:36

in their in their state. At that one

00:08:36 --> 00:08:37

moment, that's the moment in which the sins

00:08:37 --> 00:08:39

are forgiven. After after that, a person makes

00:08:39 --> 00:08:42

tawba, and everything else is just Allah Ta'ala

00:08:42 --> 00:08:43

raising a person's maqam.

00:08:45 --> 00:08:47

And our fear is what? Is that this

00:08:47 --> 00:08:49

is something Allah gave a gift to us

00:08:50 --> 00:08:50

as,

00:08:51 --> 00:08:53

you know, as the Ummah Rasool Allah sallallahu

00:08:53 --> 00:08:54

alaihi wa sallam, that there's some poor guy

00:08:54 --> 00:08:56

who's running around doing all the service.

00:08:57 --> 00:08:59

Comes from a relatively well-to-do family.

00:09:01 --> 00:09:03

And, I've heard people make offhand comments, so

00:09:03 --> 00:09:04

I wish I was also, you know, from

00:09:04 --> 00:09:06

a rich family so that, you know, I

00:09:06 --> 00:09:08

could also be free to travel all these

00:09:08 --> 00:09:09

places and to do all these things and

00:09:09 --> 00:09:11

collect these books. But the fact of the

00:09:11 --> 00:09:14

matter is having traveled with him extensively throughout

00:09:14 --> 00:09:14

the world and collaborated with him on a

00:09:14 --> 00:09:14

number of things, whether it has to do

00:09:14 --> 00:09:14

with

00:09:19 --> 00:09:21

khidman service, or whether it has to do

00:09:21 --> 00:09:21

with academic

00:09:22 --> 00:09:24

endeavors or intellectual endeavors or whether it has

00:09:24 --> 00:09:26

to do with preaching or teaching or any

00:09:26 --> 00:09:28

of these other things, is that very few

00:09:28 --> 00:09:30

people would have the the the stamina

00:09:31 --> 00:09:31

to keep up,

00:09:32 --> 00:09:34

to keep up with him because we've been,

00:09:34 --> 00:09:36

you know, we've been on the move together

00:09:36 --> 00:09:37

for for for now, Masha'allah,

00:09:38 --> 00:09:38

2 decades

00:09:39 --> 00:09:41

or so. And I've seen very few people

00:09:41 --> 00:09:42

would be able to keep up with him,

00:09:42 --> 00:09:44

if anyone at all. And so this is

00:09:44 --> 00:09:46

something we fear from Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala.

00:09:46 --> 00:09:47

When we talk about to Allah, ta'ala, you

00:09:47 --> 00:09:50

Allah, don't take this namma away from us.

00:09:50 --> 00:09:52

Otherwise the person who dies on iman and

00:09:52 --> 00:09:54

the person who suffers and is going through

00:09:54 --> 00:09:56

difficulty on iman, this is all of it

00:09:56 --> 00:09:58

is nur. Allah Ta'ala, the fear of Allah

00:09:58 --> 00:10:00

Ta'ala is a very sweet fear.

00:10:01 --> 00:10:03

The fear of Allah is a very sweet

00:10:03 --> 00:10:04

fear that anything else you are afraid of,

00:10:04 --> 00:10:06

it could harm you. But the fear of

00:10:06 --> 00:10:08

Allah doesn't harm you. Rather, it's like a

00:10:08 --> 00:10:10

breeze from Jannah that hits a person in

00:10:10 --> 00:10:12

this world, and then they'll appreciate it in

00:10:12 --> 00:10:14

this world through the that they have with

00:10:14 --> 00:10:16

Allah because it causes a person to be

00:10:16 --> 00:10:18

cut off from everyone and everything other than

00:10:18 --> 00:10:18

him.

00:10:19 --> 00:10:21

And then on the day of judgment, then

00:10:21 --> 00:10:23

the person will taste what the true sweetness

00:10:23 --> 00:10:24

of that thing is.

00:10:24 --> 00:10:26

But rather, we ask Allah,

00:10:26 --> 00:10:28

we show our slavehood to him, and we

00:10:28 --> 00:10:29

show thanks for what he gave us so

00:10:29 --> 00:10:31

far, and we ask him to keep these

00:10:31 --> 00:10:32

blessings,

00:10:33 --> 00:10:35

perpetual upon us, in this world and at

00:10:35 --> 00:10:37

the time of death and in the hereafter.

00:10:38 --> 00:10:39

So this is my, you know, this is

00:10:39 --> 00:10:41

what I learned from my.

00:10:41 --> 00:10:43

So we'll sit, inshallah. Again, these things are,

00:10:43 --> 00:10:45

in general, masmoon. They're sunnah,

00:10:46 --> 00:10:46

but perhaps

00:10:47 --> 00:10:49

the set form is not a sunnah, where

00:10:49 --> 00:10:51

a person can do whatever they think is

00:10:51 --> 00:10:52

the best. If they wish to, inshallah, they

00:10:52 --> 00:10:54

can follow along with us as well.

00:10:55 --> 00:10:57

That we will sit and will make tawbah

00:10:57 --> 00:10:59

to Allah Ta'ala using the words of the

00:10:59 --> 00:11:00

Quran itself,

00:11:00 --> 00:11:02

which is the words of Sayna Yunus Alaihi

00:11:02 --> 00:11:04

Wasallam from inside the belly of

00:11:05 --> 00:11:05

the fish.

00:11:10 --> 00:11:12

Such a precious ayah of turning to Allah

00:11:13 --> 00:11:16

that, in the Indian subcontinent, it's literally referred

00:11:16 --> 00:11:17

to as the Ayatikarima,

00:11:18 --> 00:11:19

the most noble,

00:11:21 --> 00:11:22

of god's verses and signs,

00:11:23 --> 00:11:25

that this Ayatikarima will make takra of it

00:11:26 --> 00:11:27

some number of times.

00:11:28 --> 00:11:30

And then afterward, we'll say

00:11:31 --> 00:11:33

the kalimah of Tawhid La ilaha illallah.

00:11:47 --> 00:11:49

The most virtuous of the things that were

00:11:49 --> 00:11:51

said by me and by the prophets before

00:11:51 --> 00:11:51

me

00:11:52 --> 00:11:52

is.

00:11:54 --> 00:11:56

And then we'll take the name of Allah

00:11:56 --> 00:11:59

Ta'ala, Allah, Allah. Allah Ta'ala says in his

00:11:59 --> 00:12:00

book,

00:12:04 --> 00:12:06

Honour the name of your Lord and cut

00:12:06 --> 00:12:07

off from everything else completely,

00:12:08 --> 00:12:10

which sounds awful a lot like shutting the

00:12:10 --> 00:12:12

lights off and sitting in a dark room,

00:12:12 --> 00:12:13

taking the name of Allah

00:12:14 --> 00:12:15

with the idea that when you say Allah

00:12:15 --> 00:12:17

it's like a baby crying for the mother.

00:12:17 --> 00:12:19

You don't have to mention what it is.

00:12:19 --> 00:12:21

Allah knows what it is and Allah answers

00:12:21 --> 00:12:23

every time you call upon him. Then afterward

00:12:23 --> 00:12:25

we'll make a short dua, InshaAllah, and then

00:12:25 --> 00:12:26

we can pray Madrib and be on our

00:12:26 --> 00:12:27

way.
