Prophetic Parables – Parable #23-The Worthless Nature of the Dunya

We move on after that to the next parable.

in this Hadith, the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam govt bin Abdullah says that he was passing through the market.

it had its its ears cut off.

So he went to it. And he he held it up by its ear. It's chopped off here. And he said,

Who among you would like to have it for him?

And so they replied,

We don't want it for even less than that.

What should we do with it?

And so then the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam asked,

Would you like to have it for free?

And so they replied by Allah.

Had it been alive? It would have been useless, defective, because

its ears are cut off what uses it even if it was alive?

But when it is dead, it is completely useless. What would we want to do with it?

And so then, the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, he said,

Truly, the dunya is more worthless in the sight of Allah, then this is to you. This dead lamb is to you.

And so in this Hadith,

the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam

presented

this product,

as if he was in an auction

to see who would be interested in

holding it up.

And they're all seeing it. And then he says,

This is for one did him

who wants it?

And so the product, what was it? It was this dead? Baby Lamb

that was skinny. And its ears were cut off

such an animal that it wouldn't be of any benefit if it was alive. So how about now that it is dead?

So then when the Prophet salallahu alayhi wa sallam, you know, had this discussion with them back and forth, you know, offering it and then then replying,

saying that it's worthless, you know, what use is it to us? Why on earth are you offering this to SCR? Rasulullah? As if that's what they were asking like, you know, Oh, Mr. Avila,

why would we want something like this? So, once he got your attention, and he made sure

that they have realized the worthless nature

of this animal.

He then gave them the reason for why he was presenting this, this example to them. And so, he said, Truly, they dunia is more worthless to Allah than this dead lamb is to you. So if you think that this dead lamb

is worthless

in your sight, then the dounia and everything in the dunya in the sight of Allah is even more worthless

than that dead lamb is to you.

And so the reason the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam did this

was because the dunya is something that we see.

And we feel

and we touch

and

we are deceived by it.

We see it,

we're able to touch it, we're able to feel it.

But it is deceiving in its nature. As a loss of hunter without it says, woman higher to dunya Illa matar

that the life of this world, the dunya is only a deceiving enjoyment.

Yes, it is an enjoyment, no one's denying that, you know, you enjoy the dunya. But

what kind of enjoyment is it? It is a deceiving enjoyment.

But since most of us, we cannot see beyond this material world.

The Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam therefore, had to compare its worthless nature to something that we can see.

And something that we can relate to.

And so this is why he gave this profound parable.

When he saw, you know, this dead lamb, that's what came to his mind.

And so we picked it up.

And, you know, he did what he did with the companions.

And

this is not the only time that the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam did this, trying to get that message across of the workplace nature of, of this dunya by by presenting an example. In another Hadith, the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said, Now we can at dunya, the ideal time De La Habra Udo

The Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said that if the linea to Allah

was equal to

if it was equal to that,

to that much,

then then he subhanho wa Taala would not have

allowed a coffee a disbeliever, to sip

to have a sip of water from it.

Because the disbeliever he does not deserve even that much because of his Cofer because of his disbelief. But since the dunya, and everything in it is not worth anything in the sight of Allah. Therefore Allah allows the cafe

to enjoy the dunya

by having even more than just a sip of water.

On the other hand,

on the other hand, the alzira to Allah is actually worth something.

So we've seen how the dunya

to Allah is worth nothing.

As for the accurate it is worth something to Allah. And this is why Allah subhanahu wa tada will not allow a single cafe

to enjoy anything from the blessings of the accurate meaning, gentlemen,

a cafe will never enter gender. This is the promise of Allah subhanahu wa tada in the Quran.

through this comparison of this

disfigured, mutilated baby lamb

is that he wanted to bring our attention to the fact that this dunya that we are deceived by, and we are so attached to,

it is not worth the time, the effort,

the sacrifice, the energy that we put into it, striving for it,

trying to achieve it, it's not worth it.

But rather, what is worth the time, the effort, the energy, the sacrifice, is

what we prepare in this dunya. For our

As for what we chase after, in this dunya for the sake of the dunya and only for the sake of the dunya.

To enjoy it in this life, then it's worthless.

And so this does not mean that we abandon the dunya completely.

But rather, we should use it in what Allah has made Hillel for us.

This is why Allah subhanho wa Taala has made halal and haram.

If we were not allowed to enjoy the dunya, then everything would have been Hara of the dunya. Except, you know, whatever, would keep us alive.

But Allah subhanho wa Taala, he made many things in the dunya to be held out for us.

But the Muslim,

how does he look at the dunya he looks at it as something to us a tool

that he uses to achieve a certain goal.

And he does not value it, he does not have any value for it in his heart.

And so

we could say,

let the dunya to be in your hands.

But don't let it to be in your hearts.

Let the money to be in your hands.

Don't let that money to be in your heart.

Let the keys of your car.

If you have an expensive car or you know, a nice, a nice home, let those keys to be in your hand, but not in your heart. Don't give it any value in your heart and the test of that how do you know do you know have you valued it or not? The test of that is when you lose it

the test of that is when you lose it when you had dunia in your hands, whether it be wealth, whether it be

you know whether it be women, whether it be

cars, whatever it be,

if you had it once upon a time and then you lose it

and then you lose it.

What is your state?

What does that lead you to?

does it lead you to grief to distress to depression?

Or do you say

that this was aligned to begin with?

This was a lie. He gifted me with something and he has taken it back.

And so this is the parable that the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam he gave us here of the worthless nature of the dunya among the less

Things that we can learn from this hadith

is first of all,

as we said, the dunya is worthless. Even though most people, they don't look at it like that.

And they don't realize it's worthless nature, because they are disillusioned by its glitter and its glamour

and their knifes, it desires, what it sees, rather than what it does not see

the very nature of our

of our knifes is that it is inclined

to fulfilling certain, certain desires,

that it seems that it can see in front of it.

Rather than aiming for and desiring what we cannot see, and that is a difference between

what Allah has given us here in this dunya versus what Allah has prepared for us in.

We all hear of the blessings of genda.

day in day out every you know, every now and then we are reminded a lot tells us this about what is engender. He tells us about that the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam tells us that we will have this agenda and we will have that agenda.

But yet,

our

ambitions

to reach agenda still remain low.

Why?

Because we are more attracted to what we can actually see in front of us. And that is this dunya. Whereas the accurate, it is blinded from us, we don't see it. We have been told about it. We have heard about it. But we haven't seen it as a prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said that in general, there is what no AI has ever seen. No ear has ever heard. Not even an imagination has crossed the mind of any human being concerning what is in general.

Not that we don't know what is in general, we know that it has rivers, and it has mentioned, and it has gardens, and it has food and it has, you know, women that will be rewarded to the believers. We've been told about all of this, but

the how the exact description of that

we cannot sense in this dunya we cannot sense it with our five senses. Whereas

the dunya we can sense it with our five senses. And so this is why we are distracted.

And we have been caught

into this into this trap or shaitan.

And we've been caught into this net that

we want to get ourselves out of but we kept

and this is why a true test of a man is your belief in Allah hype, your belief in the world of the unseen. That is a true test of the map.

And that's why

the kuffar they, they don't believe

in

what Allah has told us about the world of VNC whether it be Allah Himself, Allah Himself is, you know, not seen is from the what we can see from the hype,

the unseen, but not only that, but also what happens in the afterlife.

The disbeliever he doesn't believe in it because he doesn't see it.

Whereas the believer he believes in it, even while not being able to see it, and that is a true test of

the second lesson that we learned from this parable

is that this comparison of the dunia proves that the dunya is not something worth chasing after, and becoming attached to.

And that is the whole point of this parable.

That here the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam is telling us to wake up and realize that the dunya is something worthless. Whereas the Acura

it is what we have to build for.

But who will realize this only a person

who really has intelligence.

And so if a person was given a choice between let's say

He was given a choice between

a very modest house

that you can have for the rest of your life

versus

a mansion

that you can have, but only

for one week or one month.

What would you choose?

And so only foolish people, unintelligent people, or small children

who don't know the reality of things.

Because, you know, their intelligence has not developed yet.

Only such people would choose them.

Why? Because

they don't think long term.

They are short sighted, they only think they only think short term.

I'm going to enjoy myself. But they don't realize that this is temporary. That is the reality of the life of dystonia.

If only we will actually, you know, ponder over it and reflect over it. That is the nature of dystonia. We are here temporarily.

We are here for a short period of time.

And soon, we're going to be leaving, so you can enjoy yourself.

But that enjoyment will come to an end very, very soon, as we mentioned in the previous parable,

whereas the asset is something that will last forever.

It is something that will last for eternity. So why would you replace what is eternal for so for something that is temporary. Finally, the last point I wanted to mention

is that

the smart person is the one who concerns himself

with his final destination

making, making that his end goal while the foolish ones, they are the ones

who don't concern themselves with that final destination, but rather all they concern themselves with is this temporary world, that they make their ultimate goal. And so there are people who they live this life for the sake of living this life. And that's it.

As Allah subhanho wa Taala tells us of the of the the kuffar

who disbelieve in life after death. What do they say? They say

that this is our life, we live and we die. No more to one higher woman licona illa de Only time will destroy us. Meaning it's only a matter of time that

we will die. But otherwise we live in we die and that's it.

And so these people, they live for the sake of living in this world. And that's it.

Whereas the intelligent person

he realizes that we live for

for a reason. We live for a purpose and that is to get our reward into Acura, which will last forever. And that's why

this hadith shows us

of how worthless the life of this world is and everything in the dunya how worthless worthless it is compared to what is coming

and that's why and then he once came to

Abu Dhabi

and he entered his house and he looked around

He didn't have any, you know, luxuries of the dunya in his house. He looked around he didn't see anything. So he asked him where are your belongings lived a very, very simple life. So abuser he said,

we have a house that we are heading to.

Meaning this I don't consider this to me to be my house. But rather there is a house that we are heading to.

So the man,

he said, but you must have something of your belongings while you are here.

So a Buddha he said,

the owner of the house, he is not letting us to say, to stay in it.

The owner of the house, he is not letting us to stay in it.

So how would a person

who,

you know he, let's say, he travels somewhere and he checks into a hotel?

What does he do in that in that hotel?

Does he treat it as his home? Going out shopping, bringing things decorating his house? No.

Why? Because he knows he's only there for a temporary period of time.

And this

was what a Buddha did along and he understood.

And so even if you live a very long life, you are here

in this home of yours,

for a temporary period of time,

you are not here forever. So don't attach yourself to what is temporary

and will soon come to an end over what is permanent and will last forever. That is the basic message of this parable. And how worthless or dunya is in the sight of Allah subhanho wa Taala. With that we come to the end of this session. We ask Allah subhanho wa Taala. To grant us beneficial knowledge we ask Allah subhanho wa Taala to make us from among those who remember him subhanho wa Taala at all times, and to make us from among those who remember death always and to make us from among those who always remember the Euro
