So continuing with our series,
the next surah,
is Surah Hud.
And,
interestingly, Surah Yunus,
Surah Hud, and Surah Yusuf are 3 Surahs
that come one after another.
And this is the only place in the
Quran where you will find 3 surahs
with the names of the Ambiya alayhiimus sata
wasalam. Otherwise, anywhere in the Quran, you will
not find 3 surahs
with 3 different names of the of prophets
coming one after another. This is the only
place in the Quran you will find this.
We also learn from many ulama and many
books of tafasir
that all these 3 surahs were revealed one
after another
because they happened and they were revealed in
Makkah, and many ulama they say that they
were revealed after the death of Khadija
and the uncle of the prophet sallallahu alaihi
wa sallam Abu Talib. Because what happened at
that time was that even though the prophet
alaihi wa sallam went to Ta'if, and he
was rejected
from Ta'if, and he came back to Makkah.
It was almost as if, though he was
living under diplomat diplomatic
immunity, and he was living safely in Makkah,
but there was still a situation where now
the Quraysh, they felt that all the defense
mechanisms
that the prophet he had, which was his
wife, which was his uncle. Now they are
now gone. Now we have a free shot
at Rasulullah salallahu alaihi wa sallam.
And when a person lives in a certain
kind of fear,
then they need to be consoled. This is
what they this is what they need to
receive. And this is exactly
what Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala did. He sent
down these 3 surahs to console Rasool Allahu
alaihi wa sallam.
First of all, is that the message
that Allah is trying to send to the
Quraysh
through Surahood is that you have to be
cautious of the fact that divine justice will
come from Allah
If you try If you go, and you
harm Rasulullah
alaihi wasallam,
and you go after him, then I will
share with you stories of the past.
And this is why we find
stories in Surahood.
The story of Hud alayhis salam himself. The
story of Nuh alayhis salam. The story of
Luth alayhis salam. The story of Musa alayhis
salam. The story of Shuayb alayhis salam. And
these are all examples
to tell the Quraysh
that there is no way that you can
harm Rasulullah salallahu alaihi wasallam. And if something
were to happen to Rasulullah salallahu alaihi wasallam,
then their their divine wrath will come from
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala. Another interesting thing to
note here is, that if you look at
all these 3 surahs.
Surah Yunus
was about a man who left his home.
Who left his people, and he left early
because they rejected
Initially rejected his message. But we see throughout
history
that every single prophet, once they were rejected,
they will keep on go They will keep
on going back. They would go back to
their home, and to their nation, and to
their people. In the case of Yunus alaihis
salam, he left a little early. So instead
of Yunus, the message was to the prophet
that Yunus alaihis salam gave up a little
too early on his people.
You on the other hand, you should not
give up on your people this easily.
And the story of Hud alayhis salam or
Surah Hud is a lesson to the prophet
alayhis salam, that he on the other hand,
he stayed with his people till the wrath
of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala came. And you
are to stay with your people, and keep
on giving dawah, and you don't give up.
And the story of Yusuf alayhi sallam that
inshaAllah we will cover on Wednesday,
is about
that he was ousted.
He was he was kicked out in one
way, and he was removed
from the family due to their hatred for
Yusuf alaihis salam. And this is another way
of telling Rasulahu alaihi wasallam that just like
Yusuf
was ousted from his own home
due to the hatred of his own brothers
and his own brethren,
likewise you, oh Muhammad sallallahu alaihi wasallam,
you will be ousted
from a place that you love very much.
I e Makkah. By who? Your own brethren.
Just like in the case of
Yusuf We also find interestingly that if you
start the surah, Allah
The end of surah,
the end of Surah Yunus.
Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala he says,
wasbirhatayakumalahuwahulhakemeen.
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala tells Rasulullah salallahu wa
sallam that follow what I have been get
What I have given you. All that you
have to do is that the wahid that
I have sent you, Allah is telling
our prophet shalallahu alaihi wa sallam,
you are to follow that.
Till the the, the decision comes from Allah
subhanahu wa ta'ala. And in the very first
ayah of Surahood, Allah says,
Again, you see the connection.
So there's a lot of connections here between
the ending of Surah,
Yunus and Surahood.
In Surahood, Allah
is telling men He's telling the Quraysh in
particular,
that if you think that I'm only in
charge of the human beings, no. I'm also
in charge of everything that happens on the
face of this earth. In fact, every single
animal that you see, whether you are aware
or unaware,
their rizq is also in my hands.
SubhanAllah.
If you look at the seas,
how many different thousands of different creations of
Allah exist. On land, there's so many 100
and, so many 100 and different kind of
animals that exist. And every single time there's
a system that Allah has created. There's a
food chain system that Allah has created. This
is all through Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.
And every single animal will receive its riz
due to the decision of Allah subhanahu wa
ta'ala.
We also find in this surah that Allah
Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala, he mentions a story of
Nuh alayhis salam. And the story of Nuh
alayhis salam is very well known to us.
However,
however, there is one
important component
to the story of Nuh alaihis salam that
is mentioned
only in surahood,
that is not mentioned anywhere else in the
Quran. And that is
the rebelliousness
of the son of Nuh
And the lesson that we learned from this,
brother and sisters, is that these prophets and
these
they gave a proper to their children. They
did advise their children. They did teach their
children. But at the end of the day,
there comes a point in their life when
they grow up that now they are
Now they are responsible for their own
actions. At that time Nuh alaihis salam, he's
advising his son that come with us.
Come with us. We are all boarding the
ship. And what did he say?
I'm gonna go to the mountain, and that
is what's going to save me. What he
thought is going to save him based on
his own intellect,
but that that same thing became the cause
of his destruction.
And subhanallah, the one thing that we need
to understand as parents is that just like
in the case of Nuh alaihis salam, and
no one can ever question
the parenting skills of Nuh alaihis salam. So
what we learn from this is that a
parent
has a responsibility
to advise their children,
to teach their children, to give proper guidance
to their children. But when their children goes
grow up, and they get to a certain
age in their life, that now they are
considered as and
they make the wrong decisions for themselves,
and they choose the wrong path for themselves,
then the blame cannot be put on the
parent.
The blame cannot be put on the parent.
Yes, the parent has to understand that they
have a certain obligation.
When they're raising their kids, they proper They
give a proper
Yes, I will say that every single family,
we have our own challenges. Yes, every single
family, we have our certain dynamics
that poses
certain challenges within our families. And every single
child is different. Every single child's temperament is
different. And we have to work very delicately
at times. Sometimes
we will work with our children in a
delicate manner. Sometimes we have to play the
harsh way. Sometimes we might be a little
harsh. Sometimes
one parent is playing good cop, and the
other one is playing bad cop. The point
is that we all have our challenges,
but the point is that if the parent
understands,
and they
know deep down in their heart that they
have provided a proper
and then that same young man, or that
same young woman, they grow up, and they
make the wrong decisions of their life, and
that that becomes very detrimental to them, then
the blame cannot be put on the parent.
And at that time, no one We often
find in society that people wanna blame the
parent. If this is the case, then we
would sit here and blame Nuh alaihis salam.
Absolutely not. So this is why we find
this story in in Surahood.
We also find the story of shuaib alayhis
salam. We find the story of Hud alayhis
salam. And these were a group of people
who said what?
Is there anyone who is stronger than us?
Just like today we find many different
arrogant people,
arrogant governments around the world.
Arrogant political systems that they say that there
is no one who is more powerful full
than us. We are the most powerful entity
on earth. No. The most powerful entity is
the entity of Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala. And
Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala he reminds these people
that you think that you are the most
powerful, but you are not the most powerful.
If Allah wanted, he will bring a punishment
upon you, and there is no way you
can stop the wrath of Allah
And then at the end of the surah,
this is where the crux of the matter
comes.
There was a,
Ibra Abbas
he says
that there were certain verses
in Surahood that were revealed to the prophet
to which the prophet
he said,
The prophet
says, Dawud
and his brothers
made me old.
In fact there is mention that one time
there was a tabri. He's, he went to
sleep. He saw Rasulullah salallahu alaihi wasallam, and
he said,
I have come across a report
that you said,
That
you said that Hud and
their brothers,
they made me old.
So he said that what part of Hud
made you old? And he says that it's
not
that made me old, it's
that made me old. And not because of
surah The whole surah, but there were few
things that were revealed, and which we That
comes towards the end of the surah that
made me old. And at that time, the
prophet he
said in the dream, he recited the ayaat.
The point is But I will say this,
before I get to those ayaat.
Often, when people are on a mission to
do something,
In life, regarding anything. Any mission in life.
If a person is working so hard,
and they're not getting anywhere with their mission,
3 things are gonna happen. Either number 1,
you will lose hope in your system. You
will lose hope in your in your mission.
Number 2 is that a person may become
reckless,
and they they may become violent
towards others.
Or number 3, what could happen is that
they could give up, and they'll become like
the rest. Okay? They'll become like the rest,
and you know as I say, if you
can't beat them, if you can't beat them,
then join them. This is what I'm saying
in English. So, either three things are gonna
happen, they will live in their shadows, and
they will just leave their their cause, and
they will go and join up with the
other party.
3 things can happen.
In this surah, Allah
is telling Rasulullah
that none of these three things can happen.
Okay? In your cause, you're gonna keep on
giving dawah. These three things can happen, but
in your case, make sure you stay away
from these kind of things. First of all,
is Allah
says,
That stay consistent
with what you have been told to do.
Meaning, that do not do not lose hope
in the cause, in your cause. You understand?
Do not lose mercy do not lose hope
in the mercy of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.
Do not lose,
your hope and your focus from your overall
mission.
Remain consistent.
Then number 2 is, Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
says,
And do not deviate from Allah
Do not become reckless. You understand? Allah has
told you to give dawah, and Allah
gave you certain rules,
that how you are to give dawah. If
Allah
is telling Musa alayhi salam
and Harun alaihis salam that when you speak
to a tyrant like Firaoun,
then make sure,
Speak to him softly. Speak to him firmly,
but do not be arrogant and so forth,
but speak softly also,
So that perhaps he may come back to
Allah
So Rasulullah
we always see that when it came to
giving dawah, he was always very calm. His
demeanor was always
very peaceful and so forth. He was never
very confrontational.
When they became confrontational,
then in some cases, the problem is he
may become confrontational.
But overall,
even when they were acting arrogantly with Rasulullah
sallallahu alaihi wa sallam, he never ever became
reckless in his dawah. And this is a
lesson for all of us. We often give
dawah to people, but when people reject our
message,
and what we're telling them they rejected, we
become reckless. We become very rude. We become
very disrespectful,
and we cross certain limits that are uncalled
for. So the second thing the prophet as
salam is being told by Allah is, do
not become reckless, do not deviate from the
path.
Allah says,
And do not include
or do not incline
towards these people who are the wrong doers.
Once again, the 13th can happen which is,
a person may just completely give up on
their cause, and join with the wrong doers.
And here all again, Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
is saying to the prophet
no, this cannot happen with you either. And
it is because of this verse,
that the prophet
he said, that this ayah, though it may
seem very, you know, just a general ayah,
a standard ayah,
but the weight behind this verse
is so enormous
that this is what made me old.
This is what made me old. And there
are some certain verses by the way in
the Quran,
that were so heavy on rasulullah sallallahu alaihi
wa sallam. That's why ibn Abbas, once again
he says, that this is one of the
more The most difficult verses that was revealed
to the prophet of alaihi wa sallam. Meaning
that a verse that carried a lot of
weight. Another verse that we find in the
Quran is
Oh Prophet, convey the message that had been
that has been sent to you. And then
Allah says to the Prophet
If you don't do this, you have not
fulfilled your mission.
This ayah also was very
heavy on Rasulullah salallahu alaihi wa sallam. So
once again, this is a lesson for all
of us also. This is a lesson for
all of us also, that when it comes
to maintaining our deen, number 1 is we
don't lose hope in Allah.
And number 2 is we will never ever
deviate from our path.
And number 3 is, today we see so
many people, they leave their deen, they go
and they join with the wali mean. Why?
Because
they they find more safety over there. Allah
is saying,
Do not ever incline towards the wrongdoers. Why?
Because eventually the wrath of Allah
will come upon these people.
This is also in Surahood.
Whenever a whenever a home, whenever a nation
does something that is wrong, they will never
ever have perpetual success. The wrath of Allah
will come upon them most certainly. So these
are three things that were sent to the
prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam. Three things that
were told by Allah to the prophet sallallahu
alaihi wa sallam. And these are three things
that Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala is delivering, and
telling us as a ummah that stick to
these three things as you as you progress.
And you come across people who are arrogant,
and people who may do loon against you,
but stick to these three things. I ask
Allah
to make us from amongst those who will
remain consistent to our deen, and we will
never deviate from our deen, and make us
from amongst those that we will never ever
