Bismillah ar-Rahman ar-Rahim, Alhamdulillahi Rabbil Alameen
Wa usalli wa usallam ala Sayyidil Awwalin wal
Akhirin Nabiyyina Muhammadin wa ala alihi wa sahbihi
wa barak wa sallim All praise is due
to Allah, Lord of the Worlds and peace
and blessings be always and constantly showered upon
our beloved Prophet Muhammad the Master of the
First and the Last his family, his companions
and all those who call to his way
and establish his Sunnah to the Day of
Judgment As to what follows, my beloved brothers
and sisters As-salamu alaykum wa rahmatullah Alhamdulillah,
we are beginning another New Muslim Corner and
again the intention of this is to provide
foundational information for those who have recently embraced
Islam and also to provide a space to
ask questions if there are certain questions that
you cannot ask openly and publicly personal questions
can be done personally but this is a
place to respond in a positive way to
those questions and queries that you may have
and so when we are looking at our
subject and our issue of the New Muslims
again the beginning of the road is the
Kalima and that is that statement that there
is nothing worthy of worship except Allah and
Muhammad is his messenger peace be upon him
and we said la ilaha illallah and when
we talked about ilah when we talk about
the creator we are talking about a special
type of oneness there are different types of
concepts of one some of the ancient Egyptians,
not all of them but some of them
could say that they believed in one God
and that God at certain points was the
Sun so they worshipped one because there is
only one Sun and so in order to
clarify this in order to make it crystal
clear to those who have embraced this Prophet
Muhammad peace be upon him through the revelation
was given a different type of insight a
deeper look at the concept of Tawheed or
the concept of unity and Tawheed is from
the Arabic word wahada yuwahidu which means to
make one, to unite this is the concept
of Tawheed and it can apply to many
different things but in this case some of
the scholars broke it down into three parts
and the first is you could say Tawheed
al-Rububiyah and that is that we accept
that Allah is Rab that Allah is the
Lord meaning the ruler and there is no
rival to him in terms of the universe
those who believed in many gods they had
demigods the Greeks and the Romans had gods
for war God for love God for the
Sun God for the ocean many different power
forces okay so when we talk about Tawheed
al-Rububiyah we're saying that oneness in lordship
in the fact that Allah is the ultimate
supreme Lord of the universe and there is
no rival second part of this is that
we are confirming again that Allah is one
in his names and descriptions so this is
called Tawheed al-Asma' wa-Sifat and that
is that Allah in his names and there
are 99 famous names that Allah has there's
more than that but there's 99 that are
put together and constructed and known and in
these names there is nothing similar to Allah
so when we say the powerful a person
could be powerful could be Qawiy but when
we say Al-Qawiy it means the most
powerful so the most powerful in the universe
is Allah subhana wa ta'ala okay so
when we talk about Tawheed when we talk
about the unifying our understanding in terms of
our relationship with the creator then that means
that we accept him as our Lord and
we also recognize that his descriptions his names
there is none similar to Allah and so
one of the names of Allah is Al
-Aleem Al-Aleem and that's from knowledge and
a person can be an Alim which means
they have a lot of knowledge but when
we say Al-Aleem that means the one
who has knowledge of all things so nothing
in the universe nothing in the heavens and
the earth is out of the reach of
Allah subhana wa ta'ala and so this
is the second part of Tawheed so once
a person describes himself with certain aspects of
divinity that that person is knowledgeable that person
has power over all things then immediately something
goes off in the mind of a person
who has Tawheed and this can be even
in not just intricate complicated high level issues
it can be something very simple because to
go against this understanding can creep into the
most minor type of understanding I'll give you
an example the celebration of Christmas that happens
in the western world many parts of the
world now which was supposed to be the
birth of Isa alayhi salam but we recognize
even the Christian scholars recognize that he was
born in the warm weather because the shepherds
were grazing outside and in the winter time
in Palestine it gets very cold also in
our tradition his mother Mary Mary may Allah
be pleased with her she went outside the
town and she took from it the ripe
dates this rutub and the dates ripen in
the heat of the summer so you don't
get the ripened dates because the dates that
most of us eat are brown but the
actual date is like red and yellow and
gold it's not actually brown you are eating
the date when it's ripened so in order
to go to that ripening process in a
natural state it's the heat of the summer
so it's usually around in August early September
when the heat is really high that you
will get this special date so we recognize
that Isa alayhi salam was not born in
the winter but the winter was around the
25th the time of the solstice so that
was the pagan winter celebrations it happened right
around the 21st, 24th that's the winter solstice
so the concept of Christmas changed and today
of course the main person in Christmas is
not Jesus it's Santa Claus and Santa Claus
was supposed to be Saint Nicholas and Saint
Nicholas was a Turkish he was in Constantinople
living in that area Constantinople he was a
Christian monk and they say he was the
patron saint of children very kind person and
but somehow the name morphed into what is
now Santa Claus one of the children's rhymes
that is taught up until today to the
people who still celebrate Christmas because it's dying
out one of the rhymes is he knows
when you are sleeping he knows when you're
awake he knows if you've been good or
bad so be good for goodness sake you
ever heard that before?
they're not really playing too many Christmas things
these days as they used to before it
was all over the media but think about
what is being said it says that Santa
Claus he knows when you're sleeping so every
child in the world Santa Claus knows when
you're sleeping and he knows when you're awake
and he knows if you've been good or
bad now that's serious because a person could
be good or bad privately they could do
something and nobody else saw it so who
would have a description like this that is
the description of a divine entity you see
and that would clash with the second aspect
of Tawhid because that is a divine ability
to be able to know simultaneously when all
the people are sleeping all the people are
awake the extent of their deeds is good
or bad that's something divine the third part
is Tawhid Al-Uluhiyah or Tawhid Al-Ibadah
and that is that we accept Allah we
believe that Allah is one in divinity the
only divine being it is Allah who created
the universe when there was nothing else and
he said be and it is so he
initiated formation of the universe divinity and also
Ibadah that because of this divinity and because
he had no partners and needs no partners
then Allah is the only one who deserves
our worship ok so this is a very
critical part of the understanding of Tawhid because
when the prophets came and they spoke about
one God many people could agree with them
when they spoke about a divine being many
people might agree with this although they might
think it's the sun but when the prophets
who came to every nation and every tribe
when they said this divine being deserves to
be worshipped alone ok we're not going to
worship anybody else we're not going to bow
down to idols we're not going to bow
down to the sun we're not going to
worship the river if we live by a
huge river like the Nile or the Tigris
Euphrates we're not going to worship any huge
stones or animals nothing in creation it is
here where the prophets had confrontation because this
actually went against the way of life of
people who established themselves in different parts of
the world ok so having these three aspects
of Tawhid gives us a complete unity a
complete understanding and we need to constantly remind
ourselves of this it's very important for the
new Muslims and you'll find that those who
study Islamic sciences in the area of Aqidah
which is beliefs this is studied on a
high level so basically what they're studying in
the high level classes of Aqidah is this
understanding of the creator ok so you can
look at it in all different dimensions and
all different phases and that is important to
us as we are going through different changes
and one of the beauties about Islamic literature,
about the Quran the revelation and about the
sayings of the prophet and even about Asirat
al-Nabawiya the life of the prophet is
that you will see within the phases of
his life different encounters that he had that
actually are very similar to what we go
through and so the more you know about
seerah is the more you can see a
prophetic example about how to function in times
of peace, in times of war in marriage
in family life, in business in politics all
types of aspects of life are covered within
this and we find ourselves now after the
third year going on the fourth year into
the fifth after the hijrah so this is
after the migration of the prophet Muhammad peace
be upon him from Mecca where he became
prophet and stayed for 13 years following this
he went to Yathrib that became known as
Medina and established the community and that was
accepted by the Muslims as being the beginning
of the calendar because it's really with the
establishment of Islam that we have a solid,
a completed body so we have experienced we're
going very lightly through this story, comparing it
to some of the issues we're going through
today and it's just by the will of
Allah that some of it is actually coinciding
to us with us that we have reached
the point where the Muslims had a great
victory they were under attack and they were
victorious at a place called Badr the battle
of Badr following this the Quraish people of
Mecca the Mushrikeen wanted revenge so they came
back and we experienced another great confrontation called
Uhud right from Mount Uhud this is the
battle of Uhud and following this were a
number of skirmishes different lower level confrontations but
the Muslims had succeeded in establishing a type
of peace so for a whole year there
was relative peace in the lands the Muslims
were consolidating in Yathrib the Meccans were in
Mecca and of course the people of the
tribes were in different areas in Arabia but
along with this peace there were underground conspiracies
and so there were people who could not
forget the pagan tribes of Quraish still wanted
revenge the Prophet was still establishing a way
of life that would counter their supremacy because
Mecca was the center not only of pagan
religion but it was the center of trade
it was considered to be almost in a
sense the political center for the Arabs of
the Arabian Peninsula okay so this was under
threat and so they continued trying to organize
also the Jewish tribes and there were three
Jewish tribes that were in Medina there was
Benu Qaynaqa Benu Quraida and Benu Nadir Benu
Qaynaqa was the first to show their hostilities
and their hostilities came out and they were
eventually forced to leave Medina many of the
Jewish people in Medina embraced Islam and we
even learned about Mukhayrik that he embraced Islam
from Judaism and he died as a Shaheed,
as a martyr in the battle of Uhud
so there are many different stories in this
but a certain group of the leaders from
these tribes who could not handle the fact
that this prophet although he was from Abraham
on the side of Hajar from Abraham they
couldn't handle it and so a type of
Hassad like a jealousy an anger came up
amongst them and this is something that again
you have to connect all of our history
with what's happening today because it's not really
separated and if you don't understand the history
of the lands of the so called Middle
East you won't really know some of the
motivations why people are doing things so some
of the leaders they went to the Quraish
in Mecca and they also asked for representatives
from probably the largest tribe outside of Mecca
it was the Ghatafan so the Ghatafan is
very large powerful tribe with thousands of warriors
and they sat together and they confirmed with
them that if the polytheists organized themselves and
they came they attacked Yathrib that they would
get assistance from the Jewish tribes this is
not all of the people in the Jewish
tribes but it's these representatives that were struggling
for power and so they put together an
army of 10,000 warriors now 10,000
warriors this is a number that was not
known amongst the Arabs really their tribal groups
but for that size it was not really
known to be this much, first we saw
313 or 317 versus 1000 then we saw
1000 which turned out to be around 700
against 3000 this is 10,000 and this
is so serious that the number 10,000
was more than every man woman and child
in Medina 10,000 you have more warriors
than every person in the whole city so
this in a sense is what you could
call the final solution this is the final
solution this is what people now today know
as genocide so this genocide didn't come about
in World War II right, you can go
back to the Mongol invasions you can see
what Romans had done in certain places you'll
see forms of genocide extermination of a group
that has happened in many different parts of
the world this the intention here would be
genocide and according to the rules of genocide
and they actually have rules of genocide which
have been applied to today's situation but nobody
is doing anything or at least they applied
it this is even clearer example because their
intention was finish them finish them completely destroy
their profit destroy every single thing that they
have and so they started to make their
plans to move toward Yathrib toward Medina fortunately
there were Muslims who were living still underground
they didn't have enough strength to go to
Yathrib and there were other people who carried
information this is your spies today your intelligence
right so you have intelligence and that information
came to the Muslims and it came to
the Prophet that this group called Al Ahzab
Al Ahzab the confederates and there is a
chapter in the Quran if you want to
go back and review this, there is a
chapter in the Quran Surah Al Ahzab where
you will get details coming out in terms
of the struggle in terms of the revelation
it's a special chapter which is dedicated to
this and other issues as well it's very
important chapter and so the situation for the
Muslims was the fact that they are now
confronted with a huge enemy what are they
supposed to do now this is a scale
model basic drawing to give you an idea
of Medina itself and on the right side
and the left this is called Harrah and
Harrah Al Waqim or Harrah Al Sharqiyah, today
they call it Harrah Sharqiyah, that's on the
right and on the left Harrah Gharbiyah that's
on the left side and this Harrah is
the remains of volcanic eruptions because the area
of Medina is a volcanic area and in
the past there were eruptions and lava actually
flowed down in the city and it dried
and made formations so when lava makes formations
it becomes in some places almost like glass
so it becomes really sharp and it is
impossible for horses and camels to be able
to cross over this area so in a
sense on the right side and on the
left side of the city it's protected in
the southern part of the city that's down
on the bottom there are some mountainous areas
but you have passes that can go through
the mountains but there is a big area
in the south that is open and in
this area there is a lot of vegetation
this is where the Jewish tribes had agriculture
and the biggest tribe there was Ben Qureda
and so in the agreement between Prophet Muhammad
peace be upon him and the Jewish tribes
it was that they would not be forced
to be Muslim they can live under the
law of Moses that they have their own
lifestyle and they cooperate with the Muslims that
was the agreement in the city state and
that's one of the first times that you
find a minority which is accepted as part
of the government of the majority because in
most other parts of the world you were
either free or you are a slave however
you want to put it you are the
ruling class or you are the lower people
you are the lords in Europe the rulers
or you are the serfs so there are
different names so this was an agreement so
based upon the agreement based upon the agreement
the southern part was protected because Ben Qureda
and Ben Nadir they had forts they had
enough money and wealth to build fortresses so
literally an army could not go through there
and they also had weaponry and so their
agreement was we'll protect the south problem was
is that the northern part you see where
this line is going across the northern part
is empty it's clear ok there's a little
bit of a mountain just below but that's
not much at all basically the northern part
is clear and so this is the problem
because if 10,000 warriors now send their
scouts out and then they look and they
see that it's clear in the north then
they will naturally gather in the north and
then come right in and if there's no
way to really deal with it it would
be extermination ok here's your genocide that would
be carried out so in this case the
prophet he called shura and this is the
consultation of all of the believers and this
again is part of the prophetic teachings because
as a leader we believe he's receiving revelation
from above seven heavens why does he have
to ask anybody's opinion he can just go
to angel Jibreel, pray to Allah no, he's
teaching us how to function as a Muslim
Ummah and so in cases like this you
take shura and they used to do this
Bilal would go and call people to the
mosque not in the time of Salat and
they knew that what was happening and again
the city is not that big remember 10
,000 is more than every man, woman and
child in the whole city ok so they
were able to call the major representatives of
the tribes families, groupings and have a major
what they call today a town hall meeting
ok so they had a town hall meeting
and the prophet opened up the floor what
is your opinions some people said let's go
out like we did with Uhud let's go
up and meet them and inshallah we'll get
the help of Allah but then other people
weren't sure because this is not 3,000
this is 10,000 ok now one of
the companions whose name was Salman al-Fadisi
he was a Persian man very important companion
he originally started off in Persia it's a
very interesting story if you had a chance
to read his life story it's an excellent
story about what happened to him in his
life because his father used to make idols
he was actually trained to be a priest
of the fire because the Persians believed in
the fire the sun that manifested itself through
fire and they had an eternal flame going
on in different places they passed it on
to the Greeks too see the Olympics they're
still carrying eternal flames right that's how they
start the Olympics that came from the Persians
and he was trained like this but something
inside him was different he couldn't accept the
fact of this this fire and the sun
and when he ran into some Christians people
who believed in one God he eventually managed
to escape seeking the truth and he ended
up going into Iraq staying with a monk
until that person dies goes to Syria stays
with another monk he's looking for the belief
in one God he hears there's going to
be a prophet and then he travels finally
the last monk he stayed with told him
that you need to go to a place
that is in between two lava formations a
lot of water go there that's where he's
going to appear so Salman put himself in
harm's way in a certain place where if
you didn't have a tribe if somebody catches
you they're going to make you a slave
he put himself in harm's way and he
was enslaved and he was sent down to
Yathrib and he ended up being a slave
of one of the Jewish landlords he was
a slave and he waited and he knew
about the signs of the prophet peace be
upon him he had this information from the
monk ok it's a very beautiful story just
imagine this man must have spent already like
a good 30 years of his life just
on the road just to finally hear that
the prophet was coming and when he came
to the prophet peace be upon him you
know then he gave him some dates from
the date palm trees that he had and
he said this is Sadaqah I'm giving you
charity and the prophet peace be upon him
then said thank you and he gave it
away to other people because prophets do not
eat charity so that was a sign the
next day he came back and he said
to the prophet these are beautiful dates it's
Hadiyah it's a gift so the prophet ate
from the gift and then gave to his
companions sign number 2 then the prophet saw
that he was trying to look at his
back he was trying to look at his
back and so he sensed what he was
doing and so he lifted up his top,
remember his top was it has a round
neck and it hangs down, you have some
people in West Africa, Mauritania they have a
dress like this and then they flip it
up like this you'll see some people dress
like this that's how they used to dress
and sometimes underneath this there's nothing so he
exposed part of his back there and Salman
saw between his shoulder blades there was a
mark there was a birthmark and that is
the birthmark of prophethood and when he saw
this he fell on the ground to kiss
the feet of the prophet the prophet knew
that this man is guided ok so he
accepted him and then they bought his freedom
from the Jewish landlord and Salman became a
very important companion highly educated person so important
that the prophet would say things about him
that he never said about anybody else ok
and so in this case Salman he said
we in Persia when we are surrounded by
a large force we build a we build
a trench a moat they call it in
Europe so we build a moat so by
having this moat there that's where the line
is on the top you would have to
have a trench that is so wide that
a horse cannot jump it from one side
to the other also it has to be
deep enough that the horse is going to
have to go down in it and then
come back up and so Salman said build
a trench because this trench will make a
large enemy very small it's a tactic of
war and so the prophet then accepted this
he accepted this this again is part of
Islamic understanding this is a Persian man some
people will say in Arabic you can't speak
Arabic or he speaks Arabic with a Persian
accent no it is an ummah everybody is
the same ok so they accepted his his
opinion in this case and they began to
dig the trench and so this trench it's
not as nice as this one here I
just put a picture of a trench in
because that one you'd have to have some
hydraulic equipment so they built the trench but
they had to now dig the trench with
picks knives very simple equipment they had no
hydraulic equipment they had no they don't even
have big buildings so they had to literally
dig with hands and you know simple items
in order to build the trench and the
trench was basically how they set it up
they said for every 40 yards for every
40 yards there would be a group of
10 people so they assigned different people to
40 yards your job is to build the
trench in this area and all the groups
came together and they started working okay and
so they had to work very seriously in
order to produce this trench because the Quraysh
was now getting itself together they have a
huge army 10,000 so they're not going
to move right away they have to prepare
themselves and during this time a number of
miracles happened now this is where especially for
people who come out of the Christian traditions
sometimes the Jewish but especially Christian traditions amongst
the Christians one of the qualities of Jesus
of Isa Alayhi Salaam is that he performed
miracles and so he was known to perform
miracles to feed people to make the blind
to see by the will of Allah he
cured lepers right so these are miracles and
some people might say okay what is your
miracles what is the miracles of Prophet Muhammad
and generally Muslims would say the main miracle
is the Quran itself because the book is
miraculous there's nothing like this in Arabic it
cannot be reproduced and poets and writers over
the centuries have tried to reproduce this type
of writing and they cannot get the same
rhythm and make sense okay so but
also there are other miracles we already learned
about Isra and Mi'raj right that traveling
you know from Mecca to Jerusalem going up
but this is a miracle more like the
miracles the Christians you know have seen before
and other people who had prophets and that
is that there was a lot of hunger
the Muslims trade was cut off and so
they were suffering and one of the companions
Jabir bin Abdullah when he saw the Prophet
who was working he worked himself that's leadership
again when he saw him working and realized
how hungry everybody was he had some extra
animals so he sacrificed the sheep and he
had his people make some barley okay so
this would be like a meal and the
meal was taken to the Prophet peace be
upon him and the people who were around
him and so he took this meat he
called a group and they had it in
big containers and the group then ate from
the container the Prophet made dua over this
and every time they ate the food came
back up until a thousand people until the
whole of the people working ate food and
that is similar to one of the miracles
in the time of Jesus peace be upon
him in terms of feeding the masses of
the people another of the miraculous things that
happened is that on different occasions they would
run into a big rock and one time
they called the Prophet to this rock and
he took the spade itself and he hit
it and it sparked and it turned into
sand on another occasion they called him for
this big rock and he hit it and
a spark came out the rock and he
said I see the keys of Syria this
is being given to us he hit it
again and he said the keys of Persia
are being given to us he hit it
again he said the keys of Yemen are
being given to us now just imagine you
have 10,000 people around you coming to
you to kill everybody in the whole town
total genocide okay how are you thinking about
Persia and Rome so this is a miraculous
thing because eventually when the Romans and the
Persians attacked they were overthrown and the Muslims
took the keys to their countries so many
things were happening during this time one very
interesting incident um for me is with Salman
al-Fadlisi again because there's a big struggle
going on in the Muslim world with what
is called Ahl al-Bayt you know who
is the family of the Prophet who is
not his family you have people who name
their countries after this if you did a
Jordanian passport it says Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan
that's on your passport which means that it's
from Banu Hashem because the ruler was from
the family of the Prophet who was in
Mecca and then during the British rule they
you know established them as the kings of
Jordan in Morocco the king of Morocco he
is also considered to be from Ahl al
-Bayt that's in North Africa amongst the Iranians
you have their leaders the Mullah right so
the Mullahs wear black turbans and they wear
white turbans and the ones with the black
are supposed to be people who have some
family relationship with the Ahl al-Bayt so
they are the ones that wear a black
one so this is an important thing and
even people are waiting for a Mahdi to
come it is destined within our literature for
a leader to arise he will also be
from the Ahl al-Bayt so it is
an important thing but we go overboard with
this we go overboard and trying to make
almost like a caste you know the Hindus
they have Brahmins and they have different castes
and untouchables in some countries it becomes almost
like a caste that if you are from
this Sayyid or you are like Sharif it
becomes like a caste that's not the idea
and what's interesting that happened during this time
is that a big rock was there on
one occasion they called Salman because Salman was
very strong physically so Salman came to this
group there were two groups actually and they
both wanted Salman so one group was made
up of the Muhajireen the people who came
from Mecca and they said Salman Minna Salman
is one of us because he was a
migrant he immigrated from Persia and the other
group was the Ansar the people of Medina
and they said Salman Minna Salman is one
of us because he was already in Medina
before the Prophet came so you could say
he is Ansari like the Prophet came along
when they were struggling over Salman and he
said Salman Minna Ahlul Bayt he said Salman
is one of is from me from us
he is from my family Ahlul Bayt that's
a serious statement ok because all this struggle
going on with Ahlul Bayt this is a
person who is not Arab he is not
Quraish his father was a fire worshipper he
was trained to be a priest of the
fire but yet the Prophet would say he
is from my family so there is a
number of things that happened during this time
it's a very interesting struggle again like I
said there is a whole chapter in the
Quran Surah Al Ahzan which is there and
on Eid day when we are saying Allahu
Akbar Allahu Akbar La Ilaha Illa Allah then
we say Sadaqa Wada Nasara Abda Wa Azza
Jundahu Wa Hazama Al Ahzaba Wahda we are
saying this all over again which means Allah
fulfilled his promise he brought the truth and
he defeated the confederates by himself so we
are saying this all the time on Eid
day people don't understand the depth of what
they are actually saying but they are talking
about this this is how serious this situation
was and but finally the Ahzab appeared now
if you look at the top there it's
a general estimation that the Ghadfan and their
allies they camped on the eastern side of
Mount Uhud just by the Harrah they had
about 6,000 and the Quraish and their
Meccan allies had about 4 they were over
the Harrah Gharbiya the Muslims then defending the
trench were about 3,000 ok so this
is how it stands in terms of the
actual military situation so now there were different
skirmishes there were skirmishes that happened and there
were certain parts of the trench itself that's
not shown in this but maybe more toward
the left side of the trench there was
an area where it was little bit weak
and it was marshy area and so it
wasn't as strong as the other areas so
the Quraish then sent some of their cavalry
to that side and they tried to penetrate
and it's reported that some of them even
made it over inside but Ali ibn Abi
Talib they were sent over to that side
and they defeated the Quraish so soundly that
they ran back over the trench they ran
over it and so the trench was holding
and arrows were being shot over it they
were trying to figure out how we can
deal with this trench and when Abu Sufyan
saw this trench he said this is not
the way of Arabs ok these people inside
here this is not Arabs they never expect
something like this it's a technology not being
used at that time and so the skirmishes
continued and things got really really difficult to
the point where in the Quran talks about
it that people were so afraid that they
said their hearts was in their throat you
might have had certain times in your life
when you were really afraid but the description
the Quranic description is their hearts were coming
out of their throats they were so afraid
because this is genocide, this is it this
is the end and but this is where
the patience had to come in they even
reached the point where they said when is
the help of Allah and many Muslims are
saying that now right ok when are the
Muslims when are they going to come, when
are they going to wake up and deal
with this issue ok so this is a
similar type of thing and then Allah said
that verily the help of Allah is near
it's close to you ok but the time
like the Quran said Allah will reach his
purpose so there's a purpose for all these
things happening now there's a purpose for the
suffering that's going on amongst the Palestinian people
the consciousness of the world changing, it's the
fall of settler colonialism this is not a
small thing because the very roots of the
capitalist systems that we live in the roots
of modern day European society are crumbling down
the whole rules based order of the world
is falling apart it's going to be a
new world order right that's what's happening so
this is not an easy thing ok this
is not an easy thing and right in
the middle of all of this going back
to our map again Banu Qurayza and we're
not blaming everybody but the leaders some of
the main leaders of Banu Qurayza they sent
messages to the Quraysh and they said we're
going to let you in the south if
you can't make it through the north we'll
let you in the south that was serious
and then the word came back to the
Prophet what had happened and this is really
really difficult situation so right in the middle
of all of this every day counted the
Quraysh is just waiting they're waiting to come
over and so this individual to show you
what somebody everybody can do something right you'd
be surprised what you can actually do sometimes
to help if Allah chooses to use you
but this individual named Nu'aym Ibn Mas
'ud he was a merchant from the Ghadfan
tribe remember the Ghadfan and the Quraysh so
he was Ghadfani but he was known to
the people of Medina known to the Jewish
tribes known to the Quraysh he's a really
good businessman the kind that knows everybody and
by the will of Allah he embraced Islam
but he didn't tell anybody so he went
to the Prophet and he said I am
Nu'aym and everybody knows me and I'm
secretly Muslim can I do something can I
as an individual do something so the Prophet
ﷺ then told him do what you have
to do war is deception war is deception
so in this case do what you have
to do so Nu'aym now went down
to the Jewish tribes he went down to
the Banu Qurayza and he said I'm Nu
'aym, I'm Ghadfani and they said Ahlan wa
Sahlan Nu'aym come and he said I
need to tell you something I'll translate this
into our words he said the Quraysh they
want to finish this story they want to
finish the job as they said however they
said do not trust the Quraysh because if
they finish the job with the Muslims they're
going to finish with you too because you
used to be their partners so you can't
trust them so in order to protect yourself
you need to ask from the Quraysh you
need to ask for hostages ok somebody to
hold in order that you know they won't
attack that's similar to today right hostages is
a very serious situation so he said ask
for hostages from their noblemen ok so the
Banu Qurayza they said ok that's reasonable that
sounds reasonable and then Nu'aym went to
the Ghadfani he went to the Quraysh and
he said to them I'm Nu'aym or
Na'im different rewires you know me I'm
a business man I'm a Ghadfani he said
I need to tell you something do not
trust Banu Qurayza because they want to prove
themselves to Muhammad and what they're going to
do is they're going to ask you for
hostages from your noble people and once they
get these hostages then they will sacrifice they
will kill the hostages to show their loyalty
to Muhammad so whatever you do don't agree
with them see what he did so now
the Quraysh went down to the Banu Qurayza
and said ok you said you're going to
let us in the south Banu Qurayza said
ok yeah we will but let us have
some hostages the Quraysh then said no and
they went back so the two sides were
in a stalemate this was the opportune time
for them to attack but they couldn't move
because they they weren't sure and these few
days were crucial by the power of Allah
subhanahu wa ta'ala because it was just
at the end of this time that Allah
azawajal intervened the dua finally was answered of
the believers Mata Nasrullah they were asking for
the help of Allah and Allah sent extra
cold weather because Medina can get very cold
and wind wind was blowing wind was blowing
rain started to come it's blowing the tents
and everything from the confederates they come from
the south they're not used to weather like
this and so they to the point where
now they said ok we have to stop
but before we stop let's have our own
meeting our shura meeting get the leaders and
come together in a circle and so the
prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam when he heard about
this he asked one of his important companions
his name was Hudaifah Hudaifah is a really
important person ok he kept the secrets and
he did a lot of things so he
said Hudaifah penetrate the trench go over the
other side infiltrate amongst them and tell us
whether they're going to retreat or whether they're
going to stay that's a tough job because
if they caught you over there they would
cut you into a thousand pieces right because
they're frustrated so Hudaifah then the scene is
that the leaders are in this circle and
wind is blowing and they're Arabs so they
all tie their thing you know today we
look at somebody and we say oh he's
got a beard and he's got on you
know a keffiyeh and he's a Muslim no
the Quraish used to have beards right and
they used to have like turban type things
that was just Arab dress at the time
so all he had to do was just
because the Muslims would wear a cap and
a turban ok and the yahoo generally had
a cap right and many of the Arabs
would just wear you know the cloth so
he took you know his cap tied it
around his face and he sat in the
circle ok Abu Sufyan then said we have
to make a very sensitive decision but before
we make the decision I want everybody to
look at the man on his right or
on his left you know look at him
shake his hand make sure he's one of
us right ok what would you do in
a case like this you're in this situation
what would you do would you start crying
through Allah you take shahada and you know
commit suicide like what would you do you
got to think fast now right you got
to be believers, believers got to be as
farasa you think you know what Hudaifah did
he went to the right side and he
said you know who are you then he
went to his left side and he said
who are you so he covered both sides
you see before they could cover him and
they left him alone and Abu Sufyan then
said what's the decision they decided break camp
this is too much and so they broke
camp and they returned and Allah gave you
know the Muslims this great victory and that
is with no major fighting and that's why
we're saying you know we're saying that constantly
on Eid he fulfilled his promise he helped
his servant he strengthened his forces and he
defeated the ahzab by himself that's what we're
saying on Eid day right over and over
again we're saying it now you know the
meaning right next time you hear that think
about this right this is what it actually
is tied to and this was a great
victory and this is the battle of the
trench and they were able to come out
of intended genocide it was intended genocide and
it reached the final point and then Allah
intervened okay so we are reaching this point
there are people right now you know in
Palestine and Lebanon who are reaching they are
saying it's reaching this point now and Allah
will Allah will reach his purpose whatever it
is so I want to open up the
floor for any questions that anybody has concerning
the battle of the trench this is the
khandaq floor is open yes
well basically speaking I mean we look at
life as a transition first you were nothing
and then you're in the womb of your
mother and then you come out in the
world for a period of time right then
you make transition right so it doesn't stop
life doesn't stop so you have to make
a transition one way or another everybody has
to make it okay so therefore when a
person dies especially in these cases as a
shaheed you know as a martyr then that
person is promised the pain that hits a
person is like a pin prick and immediately
they're shown their place in paradise okay immediately
everything changes they're in a garden okay this
is what we believe those children those people
who are suffering they're in gardens right they
are shaheeds okay and so we have this
understanding it's difficult it's painful but we realize
that life is part of this constant transition
that is going on and eventually Allah will
reach his purpose so we continue on knowing
the transition is there if you don't have
a belief in the next life then it's
very difficult it's very difficult to take genocide
and take death you can't handle it because
there's nothing left you see so this is
part of our iman and part of our
faith is our belief in yawm al-akhir
our belief in the hereafter that's part of
this one of the six parts of iman
right that's the faith that muslims have now
floor is open for any other general questions
on battle of the trench i have a
question but this is the surah that shaykh
muslim is doing can you talk about this
term on thursday nights yes so surah on
thursday nights shaykh muslim khan is doing the
details very interesting to go into the details
you're gonna see i gave you an overview
but with the details there's some heavy things
that came out of this that you will
see so it's very important and there's other
things as well inside this chapter there's a
lot of other principles and rules and very
important understandings come out of this chapter any
other general questions anybody has concerning this khandaq
the trench anything else online okay question
so on the map itself this thing
froze a little bit on me so the
prophet's mosque would be in the middle somewhere
around in the middle area i used to
live in the harra gharbiya there i used
to live there yeah i don't know one
maybe there is i don't know but the
area we lived in was just where the
harra where the volcanic thing stops they were
settling bedouins from the desert they were giving
them settlements in that section of medina so
we were i was a poor student so
i had to live with the bedouins so
we lived with the bedouins i can't even
describe how we lived in the open air
you go in your washroom you look at
the sky harra gharbiya so the prophet's mosque
is in the middle there and these areas
surround it any general questions floor is open
now for general questions concerning islam this is
an opportunity now to ask how long did
they maintain the trench there before like after
the battle ended did they maintain the trench
there for a while i've never really read
details about how long it would have been
there but you'll see that shortly after you
know in the preceding time after things started
moving rapidly and so after this you know
comes the opening of mecca and the quraish
was defeated like the final things start happening
fast so they didn't have necessarily but they
would have kept it there for a while
because this ghatfan tribe took time to come
in they were the more dangerous ones so
this is like 5 years or so yeah
so there's still 5 more years left but
the last 5 years things are moving real
fast as we'll see you know and now
they had what they call khamsa masajid they
had different mosques that were there that they
believe are on the side of the trench
okay so if you go on ziyarah what
they call ziyarah the visit to medina they'll
take you to the quba mosque on the
bottom they'll take you to the qiblatayn where
the masjid was changed from jerusalem to mecca
and they used to have this khamsa masajid
these other places where they believed the trench
was i'm not sure now whether they still
have that but there was an area where
they believed the trench was but obviously with
time this is like a long period of
time you know it's covered over with different
things any other general questions anybody has floor
is open so this is an interesting
subject and follow it up with surat al
ahzab even online you can turn to islam
.ca you know live streaming of shaykh musleh
khan on thursday nights right dealing with this
same chapter and you can get more information
about this and it can connect us with
what is happening in the world today in
the muslim world so i leave you with
these thoughts and i ask allah to have
mercy on me and you ...
