We have a narration that comes to us
and this is in the end of which
he
compiled and he added 2
further a hadith or he added several a
hadith to Imam Anawis
where he says that Abdul Abdullah
ibn Buser
Radhiallahu Anhu
he narrates that a man came to the
prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam.
And he told him
the rulings of Islam,
these practices that you've taught us,
they've become so much for us.
And you can imagine he's maybe feeling a
little bit overwhelmed at the moment.
And he says, can you give can you
give a door
or a means of access?
A way that we can basically hold on
to, that we can cling on to that
is comprehensive
in nature, that is all encompassing in nature.
And
Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam says in a hadith
we all know very well. He said, let
not your tongue cease
from being moist
from the remembrance of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala.
Continue in the remembrance of Allah subhanahu wa
ta'ala. And this wording is from imam,
imam Ahmed Rahim, allahu wa ta'ala.
As I was thinking about this hadith and
reflecting upon it,
I remembered an autobiographical
story some
books that I think we can derive a
few lessons from about the impact of thikir
and how we can actually make this a
part of our lives and also teach this
to our families.
And we have a story from, Sahilub Nuh
Abdullah H2 study, Rahimu Allah, that he narrates
about himself.
And he says, when I was 3 years
old,
he's a little kid,
he said, I used to be with my
my my maternal uncle, my mother's brother,
and I used to wake up in the
middle of the night and see him praying.
And we can probably infer that he's referring
to Tahajjud here.
And you can imagine a little toddler kind
of coming up and and coming underneath the
blanket and and looking and curiosity. Why what
is this person doing? Why is he getting
up in the depths of the night? What
is he up to?
And his he says, my uncle asked me
do you not remember
Allah
who created you?
And he says, I asked him, how do
I do that?
And he told him, I want you to
just contemplate
about these three concepts here.
He literally tells him in Arabic
to say it
with your heart and not with your tongue.
And he says, Allah
Allah is with me.
Allah
Allah is looking upon me. He's observing me.
Allah
is watching me.
And he says, just just think about these
words. Just think about them. And so he
says, you know, I was a I was
a little kid, and I would just wake
up at night. I would just think, wow.
Allah is with me. Like the ayah.
He's with you wherever you are. Not literally,
but in terms of knowledge. He's aware of
everything you do. So I would be thinking
about these. Wow. Allah is watching me. Allah
is with me.
He said, I went to my uncle and
I told him, I've I've been really thinking
about this. He said, now now do it
consistently. Every night when you wake up, you
see me praying. Just remember Allah and think
about your relationship with Allah
He said, I continue to do it.
And then I went back to him and
I told him, you know, Khali, I've been
doing it.
He said, increase it. He said, I increased
it and then I told him that I've
I've really been thinking about Allah. I've been
remembering him regularly.
Every single night he said, do not leave
this until the grave. And it's a long
story that he narrates but he basically says,
I, you know, I became 6 and 7.
I was sent to the Maktiv. I memorized
the Quran.
He said, thereafter,
and this is the key point here, he
said, my uncle took me aside.
And he said, oh, Sahil, I have a
question for you.
Tell me about the person
who Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
is always with him
or with her.
If
Allah is with this person,
and Allah is looking upon this person, and
Allah is observing this person, and Allah is
watching this person,
Is this person going to do anything displeasing
to Allah?
He says that's where it hit him.
And, you know, the lesson that I wanna
drive from the story, obviously, you know, these
words, they're not they're not words that I
recommend any of us, you know, think about
or contemplate.
We have we have the Quran.
We have the Hadith of Rasulullah Sallahu Alaihi
Salam. And how many hadith of have come
to us 1400 years later.
And so on and so forth. But the
lesson here is one child's journey, he says,
as he grew up, as he became 12
years old and he became more conscious of
Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala and how it happened
over time and how it wasn't necessarily
words that are uttered. Because he was in
a positive atmosphere in his home, because he
had people who were worshiping Allah Subhanahu Wa
Ta'ala, he was positively influenced by them. And
so the reminder that I wanna remind myself
and you all, as well of, but starting
with myself is first of all to act
upon the,
to contemplate the, to not make it just
words that we say
but to really think about it and to
let it penetrate our heart through regular and
regular
recitation of the
and the that we have from the Quran.
The second lesson that we derive from it
is that sometimes we might not see the
effect of prayer and regular salah and it
just takes time until we feel its sweetness.
As he says in the long narration, he
said, I felt this halawah inside and until
it begins to influence us positively. And 4th,
that the ultimate,
you know, influence of this
is that it encourages us to do good
and it prevents us from doing what is
displeasing to Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala. We ask
you,
In this night when we've gathered in one
of your houses after worshiping you, we ask
you, To make us from adzakirin,
wazakirat,
from those who remember you. We ask you,
Allah, to make us from those who remember
you in the morning and in the evening.
We ask you, Allah, to make us from
those who remember you at night when others
are sleeping. We ask you, you, Allah, to
bless our family to also be people of
remembrance,
We ask you to fill our houses and
our homes with. And we ask you, allah,
to make this
penetrate our hearts. We ask you to fill
our hearts with remembrance of you,
and we ask you Arab that this
be a means for your to do what
is pleasing to you and to avoid what
is displeasing and that it be a means
to protect us from the and to enter
us into Jannah.
