Intelligent questions we ask, the more intelligent answers
comes to us.
But if we just ask
basic yes and no questions, we don't really
learn anything through that. So Musa Babin Umayr
wants to know
what's going on here. Who is this man?
What's he teaching? What's this message that is
causing these people to panic and worry?
So he goes
to
Darul arkham, the house of Arkam ibn Abil
Al Akam. This is where the Muslims were
gathering in secret, and this is where the
prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam used to instruct
them. And the location of that is actually
by the mountain of Safa. That is where
Darul Al Akam used to be. So Musa
ibn Umayr, and I remember this individual,
he is somebody who used to wear the
best of clothing.
There is one thing where you purchase the
high end brands.
There's another thing when the biggest designers in
the world are custom
making your clothing.
That was Musa'am.
Anytime he would come in a gathering, people
would notice it.
He goes and he knocks on the door.
Usually, you don't find somebody like that coming
to a gathering like this.
He probably has other things he's worried about,
other things he's more concerned about. But Musaam
knocks on the door, they let him in,
and everyone is shocked to see him there.
And he's probably used to this. Anytime he
goes, people are looking at him, they're getting
a glance of him, they want to sit
with him, talk to him,
and they notice him
and they turn away from him
to focus back on Muhammad
and the teachings that he was delivering to
them.
And this is a first for Mus'ab as
well. That usually, anywhere I go,
people are giving me that attention.
But all of a sudden, they looked at
me, and very soon they just turned back
to the prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam.
And he heard the prophet sallallahu alaihi wa
sallam reciting the Quran and teaching the concept
of tawhid and the teachings of Islam,
and it shook his heart.
And the prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam placed
his heart on Mus'ab's heart his hand on
Mus'ab's heart and made him calm down, and
he entered into the faith.
Did he enter because he's excited? There's something
new, there's something different?
Is he going to make it?
Is somebody who is this pampered
able to stand
the course of time and be sincere and
dedicated in his faith.
Could someone like this become a legend of
this deen?
Musa ibn Umayr accepts the faith.
He goes home.
He didn't care who came in his path,
but the one person,
not only him, but the entire Mecca was
terrified of was his mother.
And he loved his mother dearly, she was
very close to him. They used to have
discussions of all types,
but he wanted to keep his Islam secret
from her.
Now remember,
Islam is trending, so the Maqans have ears
and eyes everywhere. They want to know who's
entering to this faith.
What can we do to prevent them from
continuing on this journey?
And one of
the companions, not companions, but one of the
people of Makkah, he noticed Musa' go into
Dar al Artem, this house. So, okay. That's
strange. Why would he go there? But maybe
he has that curious nature, he wants to
kind of find out what's going on here.
Then he notices him praying.
That's 2 strikes from the same tribe.
He goes to his mother
and he tells her that your son has
accepted this new religion.
Now Mus'ab knows he's gonna go home. How
many of you have done something wrong
and your parents find out,
and you know you gotta go home, and
you gotta stand in front of them?
Anyone?
Where are your parents?
So Mus'ab, he goes home
and his parents are there in front.
And the most terrifying of them, his mother.
And she tells him that this person is
saying
so Musa Behl al Khumair is standing in
front of his mother,
and he sees this audience there. He's like,
no. He knows something is up.
So she tells him that this individual is
claiming that you have accepted this new religion,
this new way of life.
And he tells her with full confidence, yes,
I have.
And she gets so angry, she doesn't leave
this religion.
He tells her no chance.
And she's about to strike Musa'ib bin Umayr
and that motherly love kicks in because this
is her son after all.
And a mother's love is strange
that a person can do anything
and commit a lot of wrong,
but then when he or she turns back
to their mother, the mother somehow forgives their
child,
has the ability to forgive that child despite
all the pain that their child has caused
them.
So she's unable to strike him, but she
tells him that if you don't give up
this religion, I'm going to imprison you.
I'm gonna put you in a corner, and
she shackled him and she left him in
the corner.
You must give up your religion.
And he refused.
Said, if you do not, then you are
not going to get a single dinar, a
single penny from me, you will not get.
So she chained him in a corner,
and this continued until
the situation of the Muslims was getting worse
and worse.
And there were certain Muslims who had tribal
backing. The The prophet salallahu alayhi wasalam is
from Banu Hashir.
His grandfather was a very high status. His
uncle, the same thing. So he has and
other companions had tribal backing. They used to
protect one another. But certain tribes were too
small. They couldn't defend under other against the
other tribes.
So these people were facing persecution and then
finally the prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam told
them
to migrate to Abyssinia because there's a just
king there, Najashi. Go and reside there. Now
by this time, Musa'ibir Mir hears about this.
He breaks free and he leaves.
And he takes nothing with him.
Somebody who grew up in wealth,
had that fame, popularity,
he's leaving his homeland with nothing.
Is
he an idiot?
He's gonna give all of this up,
leave with nothing.
All he has to do is go back
to what he used to be upon, tell
his mom he's sorry,
and everything gets becomes restored.
Is he making the right decision by giving
everything up?
All he has to do is turn back.
Okay. I'm gonna stay on your religion.
I'm I'm sorry, mom.
He's back in her good side, and everything
that she used to pamper him with
is returned back to him.
Is
he making
the wrong decision?
Pardon me?
In a high okay.
So, Mus'ab ibn Umayr,
he's faced with a choice
that all this luxury,
but at the end of the day,
disobedience and kufr towards Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
or stick with Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
and expect the best and get the reward
from following the prophet sallallahu anhu wa sallam
and worshiping Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala allahu.
Many times, you know, you see wealth,
fame,
connection with other people. There's core needs we
as human beings have. You and I have
core needs, like security.
Every human being wants to feel secure that,
hey, I know what to expect tomorrow. I
know I can trust this person. I know
these people are gonna be in my life.
This job is gonna keep me going.
We also have a need for variety as
well, to change it up, to experience fun,
adventure.
We also have a need for connection, with
connecting with other people. We're human beings at
the end. We're social creatures. We need to
connect, we need to belong.
We also have a need for significance,
to be important, to achieve.
We have a need for growth as well,
to improve, to get better. That's why you
see, we as human beings, especially in today's
day and age, we're always improving. 2023 model
is not the same as a 2024.
You're gonna have iPhone 20 in a couple
of years. So we as human beings, we
have this inner need to always improve.
Money,
wealth, these are vehicles
to meet these needs.
The more when I have money, I feel
like I'm secure.
When I have x y z, I feel
I have that variety in my life. When
I achieve this job, that gives me significance.
When I have a lot of people around
me, it gives me that sense of connection.
Now these needs are so vital that people
will break their values,
The things that are important or should be
important to them, they will break them to
meet these needs.
But there's a core need that's missing,
and it's the need of your soul,
which is
to connect with Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.
The soul is from the heavens, which means
it needs that heavenly element, which is Allah
subhanahu wa ta'ala, and the soul will only
get satisfaction by connecting with Allah subhanahu wa
ta'ala.
We have inspired with you.
The Quran is referred to as because it
gives life to the soul.
And the more a person goes towards Allah
subhanahu wa ta'ala, the more that need comes
forward.
And that if that becomes
the number one priority in a person's life,
all the other needs are taken care of.
If that becomes the number one priority,
when you're connected with Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala,
how secure are you?
Allah will always show up and take care
of this individual. How many ways are there
to connect with Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala? So
many ways.
At the end of the day, his name
is Al Wadud. You get that love and
connection automatically there. And a believer
is Aziz,
he's honorable,
gets that significance through his connection, her connection
with Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala. So Mus'a'abi bin
Rumayr,
he tasted that.
That despite all these things there, he understands
that this is nothing when it comes to
that core need of connecting with Allah subhanahu
wa ta'ala, and he leaves all of this
and he goes to Abyssinia.
Then news spreads in Mecca or to Abi
Sunni, the news gets that the people of
Makkah have accepted Islam.
He comes back, he notices that it's not
true.
And now Musa'ib ibn Rumayr stays with the
prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam under his
as a student and learning from the prophet
sallallahu alaihi wa sallam. Fast
forward and the prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam
now loses his uncle, loses Khadija radiallahu anha,
his
main sense of protection is gone now. Now
the other tribes need to go and stop
this mission.
And their attack on the Muslims becomes even
more severe. And the Prophet salallahu alaihi wa
sallam loses his protection within Makkah, and he
needs another base to be able to take
Islam to.
And he used to go with his companions
and used to go during the hadh season
and talk to the different tribes.
And during the 11th year of prophethood,
he ran into people from Madinah.
6 people from 6 people from the tribe
of Khasraj.
And the prophet
tells them that, you know, can we have
a discussion?
And so where are you guys from? We're
from Medina. Oh, you guys are allies of
the Jews. Yes.
And he preaches to them about Allah Subhanahu
Wa Ta'ala about the Quran. Now the people
of Medina are unique
because the first question is why are there
Jews living there?
In the middle of the Arabian Peninsula, the
middle of nowhere, nobody cares about this land.
Why are there Jews living there?
Because they knew a prophet is going to
come from that part of the world,
in their books. And they used to threaten
the people of Medina, the Mushriks of Medina,
they used to threaten them telling them that
the time has come for a prophet to
be coming from this part of the world,
and we are going to be with him,
and we're going to get rid of you
guys.
Because they thought that he's going to be
from Banu Israeel.
And the people of Medina,
they discussed amongst themselves
that this is the individual that they're talking
about.
So let us join them
before let us join him before
they do.
So they go back to Madinah, and the
prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam, he tells them
to go and tell them about Islam. So
the next year,
12 people from Madinah come during Hajj and
the prophet
has a meeting with them.
And in this meeting, he tells them about
Islam and he takes an oath from them
to not commit part or not associate partners
with Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala. Don't steal, don't
commit zina, don't slander and invent lies against
people, don't kill your children,
and do not disobey me when it comes
to anything good. If you do this, you
get Jannah.
And if you don't or you make a
mistake, you're unable to do so, then your
affair is with Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala. If
he wants to forgive you, he will. If
not, then he will punish you.
And they wanted somebody to be sent with
them so that this person would be able
to help them. The prophet sallallahu alaihi wa
sallam chooses Mus'ab
for this very important task,
to go and preach to the people of
Madinah
so that they understand Islam.
And there's 2 tribes here, Aus and Khazraj.
They hate each other. They've been fighting for
years,
and no one from amongst them will be
able to be their imam. So, the prophet
salallahu alaihi wa sallam sent Mus'aab to lead
them in their salah
because this is a position of leadership. And
one of the things that they cared most
about
was leadership, was being or you could say
the need for significance. Because leadership is what?
At the end of day, you're important now
all of a sudden.
And when Musa'ib ibn Umayr,
he was going to leave for a second
time to Abyssinia,
his he went or when he came back
from Abyssinia actually,
and he goes and he meets his mother,
she tells him that you are no longer
a
son. And Musa'ib ibn Khmer goes to his
mother and tells her very gently
that, oh, my mother, believe in this. Believe
in the true Lord and follow the guidance
of the prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam. And
she says, no chance.
I am not going to disgrace myself
by following
this new religion.
Because they had this understanding,
it's not a correct understanding,
but this belief system that if I follow
this man, all of a sudden my title
is going to go away.
Abu Jahl even said that Banu Hashim claims
prophethood.
If we believe him,
how do you counter that?
Think about it for a second. Prophethood. This
is like that How do you counter prophethood?
So they would rather choose to They knew
he was he was speaking the truth. They
knew this was from Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.
They've never seen anything like this. They would
secretly hide and listen to it,
but then that ego comes in the way.
That if we acknowledge that he is the
messenger of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala,
And how do we compete with that?
Where does our ranking within society go?
So this fear that if I am to
accept this message,
I'm going to lose something.
And sometimes you find this when giving dua
to people as well. And sometimes we as
Muslims also have this mindset that if I
become closer to Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala, x
y z is gonna happen to me. I
might lose my friends. I might lose my
job. I might have difficulties going down the
path.
Is it factual?
It's not, but seitan comes and he plays
with our minds.
And even sometimes,
anyone have experience giving dawah to a non
Muslim, and they say, you know what? I
know Islam is the truth, but I can't
give up bacon,
or I can't give up drinking,
or I can't leave my girlfriend.
Right. These things are excuses that people say
that prevents them. Shaitan uses this to prevent
people from accepting Islam.
So Musa ibn Rumayr is sent with this
task. He becomes the first ambassador of this
religion,
And he's somebody who is pretty young.
And the messenger salallahu alaihi wa sallam chooses
him and sends him to Medina,
and he goes,
and he stays with
Asad ibn Zurara.
And he goes and he preaches, and people
are accepting his message.
And one of these days,
2 people from Medina,
Sa'ad ibn Hu'ad and Usaid ibn Khudair. 2
of the leaders of Medina, from the tribe
of Banu Abdul Ashhall.
They see Mus'ab
with Asad ibn Zurar.
And Asad ibn Mu'adh is the paternal cousin
of
Asad ibn Zurar. He is his aunt's son.
So he tells Usaid that look at these
guys, they're coming here, they're messing with the
people,
taking advantage of their foolishness.
If it weren't for the fact that he's
my cousin, I would go and I would
deal with him. He said, why don't you
go and talk to him?
So So, Usaid ibn Khurderi says, okay. He
picks up his spear and he goes,
and he comes to Musa'ab,
and Asad ibn Zura'a is telling him that
somebody from the leaders of Madinah is coming
to you.
So he comes with the spear pointed at
them
and he starts cussing them. He starts insulting
them that you're coming here taking advantage of
these people, they don't know any better, and
you guys are brainwashing them and making them
accept this religion.
If you know what's good for you, you
better leave.
And mus'ab
responds with full confidence.
He tells him that,
why don't you listen?
If you like what I say, then you
can accept it.
And if you don't, then we'll leave you
alone.
So, Usaydi said, you know, that's fair. At
the end of the day, he's the leader
of the tribe. He should have some
sense.
So he recites the Quran to him,
and it impacts,
and they could see his face change.
And he says, how lovely is this? How
can one enter into this religion? Tells them,
go clean clean yourself, make qudu and then
come back. Then he accepts the faith.
And then Usay tells Musa'ad,
and he tells Asad ibn Zurara that there's
a man over there. Talking about Asad ibn
Mu'ad.
If he accepts this religion, if he follows
you,
nobody will hesitate to follow you as well.
He's the influencer.
Imagine LeBron James becomes Muslim
and he publicly announces it.
How many people
would right away become Muslim?
And then add Michael Jordan to that as
well. How many more people would become Muslim
as well? Because these people have that influence
over society.
So this is the leader of their tribe.
Not only that he has influence that they
love him, they respect him, and they would
follow his lead because they know that he's
not going to lead them to misguidance.
But he has to get him here somewhere
because sometimes people don't even wanna listen to
what you have to say.
So much things are going on in their
minds, they they can't even have a conversation
with you. So much hatred flows in their
blood that they can't even sit down and
pause and be like, okay, let's logically think
and talk about what we're trying to discuss.
So, Usayd goes and he has a plan
and he tells them that, you know what?
They're good people, I don't find anything wrong
with what they're saying,
but they told me that this person from
another tribe
was threatening to kill your cousin.
Now it's a blood thing. It's a relationship
thing. You know, that all
common sense goes out the window. Okay. My
my brother? And one of the cultures of
that time was
the motto was support your tribe member whether
he's wrong or right.
So even if this person is wrong, you
have to support him. So this was widespread
within them.
So he goes and he's angry and he
takes his spear, and when he comes he
sees them all calm and relaxed. He knows
that he was
duped.
So he goes to them and he threatened
them and he uses harsh language with them
that you guys are here coming, taking advantage
of our people. And Musa ibn Umar, he
gives him the same response
that why don't you sit down?
If you like what you hear, you can
accept it. And if you don't, we'll leave
you alone.
He said that's fair.
And once again he recites the Quran and
Sa'd ibn Mu'adh accepts the message as well.
And he goes to his people and he
tells them that what is my ranking within
you guys? What is your opinion of me?
They tell him you are a leader, you're
the best of us, the most knowledgeable of
us. And he
said it is haram for any one of
you to talk to me unless they become
Muslim.
And that night,
every home had somebody that accepted the faith.
And most of Medina has accepted this new
religion.
And the following Hajj is now the 13th
year of prophethood.
A delegation of over 70 people go and
they meet the Prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam
during Hajj. This was the
the treaty of Aqaba, the second one.
And before this, remember 12 people came the
year before. Now you have 70 plus people
going here. And with them is a delegation
of non muslims as well. So the mushrikoon
are also going there. Amongst them is Abdullah
ibn Ubay ibn Sadul, who was somebody
who was designated to become the leader of
the people of Madinah.
But once the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam comes
into the picture,
the default leader is going to be the
prophet salallahu alaihi wa sallam. And that friction
was one of the core reasons why he
rejected the faith, or why he rejected to
actually become a true believer.
So, now you have this gathering of
70 plus people waiting to meet the prophet
salallahu alaihi wa sallam. Remember, the environment is
still very hostile.
They don't like the Muslims, they don't want
any sort of meeting happening especially if the
prophet salallahu alaihi wa sallam now now has
a place that he can go away.
Because
what happens if he leaves?
What's the consequences for the people of Makkah?
In Makkah,
it's very
difficult to defend yourself.
You take up arms,
they have home field advantage.
They know where you live. They know who
your family members are. They can harm you.
When you leave,
you are now an independent country.
You have the ability now to defend yourself.
And they don't want the prophet salallahu alaihi
wasalam to leave. So they have a gathering
late at night. The prophet salallahu alaihi wasalam
comes with his uncle Abbas, and Abbas pretty
much tells him that look, he's well protected,
he's taken care of, we his family, but
has his back.
You better know what you're signing up for
because if you cannot do that then leave
him here, it's better.
Don't commit zina, don't steal, don't kill your
children,
don't
slander and invent lies against one another, and
obey me when it comes to goodness. Now
there's another condition going to be stipulated here,
which is
that defend me the way you defend your
families.
Protect me the way you protect your family
members.
And they're ready to
take in this condition.
But somebody steps in
and says, guys, hold on. You have to
understand what this means.
If you accept this man and he comes
to you, this means you are going to
go to war with all of the Arab
tribes.
You better know what you're signing up for,
and you better have the courage to fulfill
that.
And the ansar, they tell the prophet
that if we do this,
what do we get?
And the prophet
says, Jannah.
And they say that if that is the
deal, then we want it.
And Allah
now set up the scene for Medina
to become its independent
country, and the Muslims migrate to Medina.
And the prophet
has given permission to leave as well.
Once they get there, Allah
he gives them permission now to defend themselves.
So in the beginning, they used to go
and raid caravans.
The Battle of Badr was meant to be
a caravan that they go and raid. Allah
subhanahu wa ta'ala decreed otherwise. The Meccans came,
they ended up fighting. You have 1,000 to
about
312. For some reason, the first couple of
battles were always
1 to 3 ratio between the Muslims and
the non Muslims.
And Mus'aib ibn Umayr, he was the standard
carrier there. The standard is very important because
you don't have radios, you don't have the
modern communication that you have today. How do
you know you're in the battle?
Is if you see your flag is standing.
If that drops, that means you need to
panic and you need to run away. So
nonetheless, Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala sent down the
angels and they completely annihilated them. They were
so furious that when they went back, they
prevented their women from wailing over the dead.
We show no signs of weakness. That caravan
that was saved
was
donated entirely to fund the battle of Uhud.
And during Badr, they took POWs,
prisoners of war, and the prophet sallallahu alaihi
wa sallam told them to honor them.
So whatever they used to eat, they used
to give them as well. And Mus'aib ibn
Umair had a brother by the name of
Abu Hussain ibn Umair.
And the one who captured him was taking
him and he told them that, you know,
tie his hands tightly
because his mother is extremely wealthy and she
will give a good ransom for this individual.
And his brother tells him that,
come on.
Like, I'm your brother. Are you gonna tell
this person to do that to me?
And he says, no, this is my brother.
The bonds of faith are stronger and greater
than the bonds of blood.
And his mother actually asked that who had
the highest price for ransom.
They said it was about 4,000,
dirham,
so she gave even more to free her
son.
Now comes Uhud.
Once again, the people of Makkah,
you have
3,000 going to Madinah.
Well equipped,
have horses, camels.
The Muslims start off as a 1,000,
not very well equipped.
And we know that after the 10 who
were promised Jannah,
the people of Badr are considered to be
the best of the companions.
And the angels that participated in Badr are
considered to be the best of the angels.
Now the thing with Badr was the prophet
did
not give them time to prepare.
Because the initial goal was what?
Was it to fight or was it something
else?
It was sue, raid the caravan.
So this
we have to be quick.
So whoever was ready went. And many people
got left behind not because
they didn't have the courage to go out
and fight, but rather because they were not
ready on time.
So Uhud,
they wanted to initially stay within the city
limits.
And the city limits, if anyone's been to
Madinah, is that courtyard area. So anything that's
within the green fence beside the prophet said
masjid, that was a city at that time.
Now this makes sense because you have home
field advantage. It's your territory, you can lay
traps, you can set up ambushes, you have
the
advantage when it comes to strategy.
But these younger sahaba, they're like, no, we
want to go meet them outside of Madinah,
which means by where the mountain of Uhud
is. So the prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam
goes and he meets them outside
and once again he gives the standard to
Musa'ib ibn Umayr.
And once again, this is very important. If
this drops and you look and you see,
okay, where's our standard? That means, hey, we're
in danger.
We need to re strategize.
And
the prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam had put
50 archers on a smaller mountain
and he gave them very specific instructions that
no matter what happens and he even said,
if you see
the birds coming and plucking us from our
positions
or if you see us winning, do not
leave your positions no matter what.
Very specific
instructions.
The battle starts, the Muslims
are winning.
Once they start winning, what happens now is
as they're leaving
and the Makkans are losing and they're fleeing,
they have
equipment with them. They have body armor, they
have helmets, they have swords, they have shields.
These things are very expensive
and they're also heavy. So when you're trying
to make a getaway, you are naturally going
to lighten the load
so that's easier to leave. So they start
dropping these things, and this becomes easy for
people to pick up and this is valuable
things. The Muslims are not very wealthy at
this time.
So when this is happening, the ones who
are not getting
are the ones on top of the mountain.
And when they see the situation, they justify
that, okay, the battle is done. We see
them leaving. The prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam
had told us this if the battle is
still going on. So it's done. They start
leaving their positions and this
the most vital
position is breached. And Khalid ibn Walid takes
advantage of the situation and brings his horsemen
around the mountain, and there's only 9 people
with the prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam.
7 from the Ansar, 2 from the Muhajirul.
And 1 by 1 they step forward and
they lose their life until only
are
remaining with the Prophet
Now, Mus'ab is there as well,
and he has a standard,
and he knows the prophet salallahu alaihi wa
sallam. And Mus'ab ibn Rumayr was somebody who
resembled the way the prophet salallahu alaihi wa
sallam looked.
So he notices this this dangerous situation,
and how crucial it is to defend the
prophet salallahu alaihi wa sallam that he takes
the standard and he yells out Allahu Akbar
to bring the attention towards him.
So a man by the name of Abu
Kamir, he noticed this and Musa'ib ul Khmer
starts defending and fighting. And he rushes after
him
because he wanted to get the people away
from where the prophet salallahu alaihi wa sallam
was because the prophet salallahu alaihi wa sallam
is already injured at this time.
So, he brings the people away from the
prophet salallahu alaihi wa sallam and then
he loses an arm. They chop off one
of his arms. And he knows how crucial
that standard is, so he grabs it with
the other arm because it has to stay
up. If it drops, it's time to worry.
Then they chop off the other arm. Now
you can imagine somehow, someway
with his neck and whatever he has left,
he manages to keep the standard
up.
And then finally he
was struck for a third time,
and he falls and he passes away.
This is when and every time he lost
an arm, he would recite, wamaa Muhammadunillah
Rasul
I just want you to pause for a
second.
In this extreme pain,
he is able to recite the Quran.
And he recites
That Muhammad is except a messenger,
messengers have passed away before him. And then
as he loses the second arm, he's still
reciting the same thing.
I can't even imagine
the level of pain he's going through.
But to be able to recite the Quran
at that time and then when he radhiallahu
anhu finally falls
because of his resemblance to the Prophet salallahu
alaihi wa sallam and because they thought that
they were chasing the Prophet salallahu alaihi wa
sallam,
ibn Amiyyah, he yells out and he says,
Muhammad is dead.
Now, imagine the most beloved person to you.
The one that you love more than your
own family. Your kids,
your parents.
This was the prophet
to
them.
And they hear this news.
What must be going through their minds?
And then the Muslims, they split up. There's
a group that goes back to Madinah in
order to negotiate. There's another group who fights
even more courageously
to join the prophet
in Jannah. There's another group who wants to
go and find out what the situation really
is.
And they go and they see that the
prophet
is safe, they're able to strategically
retreat, and the battle comes to an end.
And Musa'ib bin Umer, the individual that we're
talking about, he loses his life in this
battle.
This was an individual that grew up in
so much luxury, so much wealth, was pampered
to a degree
that
these sisters were probably jealous of his skin
care routine
because of how
soft and beautiful he was.
And this
man loses his life and they don't have
enough covering to cover his entire body.
Khabab ibn A'rat, he narrates that
we were individuals who emigrated for the sake
of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala, which means that
our reward became
became upon Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala. He is
the one who's gonna take care of our
reward.
And many people, they passed away without actually
seeing their reward in this world. They knew
that Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala was going to
open the world for them, But people passed
away before that actually happened, and from them
was Musaabi bin Rumir. He was an individual
that was
so pampered once upon a time, and he
gave that up for the sake of Allah
subhanahu wa ta'ala that when he left and
he passed away radhiallahu anhu, he had this
woolen ripped
cloth that he left behind.
And when they used to cover his body
with it,
his legs were shown.
And then when they would pull it more
to cover his legs,
his head would be showing as well.
And then the Prophet
told them that cover his head and use
grass or lemongrass to cover his feet.
And the Prophet
said that minal Allah
revealed the verse.
That from the believers are men,
are people
who are true to the covenant that they
made with Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala.
Is an oath, but something that
you stick to making sure you fulfill what
that oath contains.
That they fulfill their promise to Allah
They never wavered at all. And there are
those individuals who are still going on and
fulfilling that contract. May Allah
make us amongst those individuals.
And he says,
that they never changed.
No difficulty,
no obstacles,
nothing changed their course.
They stayed firm because they understood the meaning
of
If we look at the stories of the
Sahaba, the story of Musa'bibul Umayl, do we
ever find in there
that they questioned why me, Allah?
We believe why am I going through this
hardship?
Why is this happening to me?
We never find that because they understood the
reality of this world.
They understood what it means to say la
ilaha illallah. If Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala wanted,
he could have taken the Prophet sallallahu alaihi
wa sallam from
Madinah
to Makkah,
like this.
Jibreel alaihis salam I want you just imagine
for a second. Okay?
You look in the horizon,
and he covers the entire thing.
Jibril alaihis salam is said to have 600
wings.
6 How many wings?
600.
1 of those wings was enough to destroy
the people of Lut,
And the people of Lut were multiple villages,
not just one.
One wing. If Allah wanted,
he could have sent Jibreel and like this
taken the prophet
to Makkah to Medina. I'm sorry.
But they understood that it doesn't work that
way. You have to believe. You have to
persevere.
You have to
go through things to purify you to ultimately
get to where you want to go. Because
the end result is what?
Musaab
gave up the luxury of this world for
for jannah,
that which is eternal, that which no eye
has ever seen,
no ear has ever heard of,
and no mind can ever comprehend.
And you see these special effects today that
they make movies crazy, the imagination or creativity
that goes into it, that they think of
all these crazy things.
But no matter how creative we get, no
matter how innovative we get, no matter how
far our imagination takes us, when it comes
to the possibilities
that we could create in this world, jannah
is always going to be way more than
that.
Way more than that.
And Musa'ib ibn Umayr, his story teaches us
I'm gonna just take 3 things.
The first is the power of choice.
Every day you and I have a choice
to make.
And these little choices, they build up.
And the prophet said,
That every day in the morning, the people
they go out.
And they sell themselves.
They're going to go
and do things.
What they decide to do, is it going
to be
aligned with what Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala wants
them to do?
Because if it is, then they free themselves.
They get closer to jannah. They get closer
to earning the pleasure of Allah subhanahu wa
ta'ala. But if they don't
and they align with shaitan,
what he wants them to do, then they
get closer
to jahannam.
They get further away from Allah subhanahu wa
ta'ala.
And Allah
tells us in the Quran,
As for the one who transgresses, who does
the wrong, they know better, they have the
choice but they choose the wrong action,
and they prefer this world over the next.
Now once again, when we talk
about dunya
and akhla,
it does not mean that you give up
the entire dunya.
Most people are never going to have to
make a decision like that, But sometimes people
do and we see that in today's day
in day and age as well, that a
person accepts Islam. They come into the fold
of Islam, and their parents tell them to
get out.
And they have a choice to make.
Do I believe in this with certainty
that I know my parents are going to
abandon me, not welcome in this house no
more?
Or do I
stay true to my beliefs and I trust
that Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala is gonna take
care of me?
So when we talk about dunya and akhara,
please don't get the wrong idea that it
means that we have to sacrifice everything and
there's no room for enjoyment. No. That's not
what Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala is calling us
towards.
Because we're in this world, we have to
live in here.
But we utilize
the time, the resources,
the money to be able to build our
akhah.
To be able to have the intention that
everything I do, I do it for the
sake of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala. So in
that, I benefit from this world but at
the same time I'm building my akhir. I
understand this is a temporary location.
As for the one who is afraid and
mindful that one day they're going to be
standing in front of Allah
and they prevent their nafs
from its desires and inclinations.
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala gave us his body.
Put his soul there, there's nafs in there
as well. The nafs is inclined to everything
that goes against our teachings.
We want to do the wrong thing. We
want to say the wrong thing.
We want to be able to earn money
from wherever it comes from. We don't care.
The nafs is inclined towards that, but we
have to work against that.
And the more we work against it, eventually
what happens is Allah
makes
those things that might seem difficult to wake
up early in the morning for fajr when
it's so cold,
to you know, you open the tap and
the water is freezing.
It's difficult,
but that becomes
something that we enjoy.
But it's not gonna happen the first time
you do it.
But as we do the right thing,
Allah
will make that enjoyable to us,
where it becomes that it doesn't matter what
we're going to do, that which is pleasing
to Allah
and jannah is the final abode for them.
The second thing is references.
The story of the prophet salallahu alaihi wa
sallam is a reference for us to take
as an example.
And even the experiences that you have gone
through in your life
serves as references for you. And it is
very important to know these references.
I'm sure every single person here has gone
through difficulties,
and every one of you have made it
through that. That serves as a reference for
you. Now, when you experience another one, you
can go back to that. I've been like,
hey, you know, I was okay.
Allah
took care of me. He showed me the
way. I didn't know, but it worked out
at the end. How many people have experienced
that? You didn't know how it was gonna
work out, and it worked out in the
best way possible. Anyone experienced that?
That serves as a reference for you to
go back into when you experience something similar
in the future.
It might not be the same situation,
but it's similar when it comes to its
theme.
And it's a difficulty,
it's unknown,
but what's known is Allah was there for
me before.
He's here for me now and he's always
gonna be there. And these examples of the
companions is very important to not only for
us to learn it, but to also teach
it to other people because it serves as
references.
We don't live in the same era.
We didn't experience what they experienced, but the
underlying theme of struggling for your deen is
the same.
There are individuals that made it.
We are also human beings. We also have
faith in Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala. We breathe
the way they did. We bleed the way
they did, which means we can also do
what they did.
We can also survive and make it to
Jannah as well.
And the final lesson
and I kind of lost my thought there,
but
so the first is
power of choice.
2nd is
references. And who can give me a third
one?
Sacrifice. So sacrifice also, I would say, it
kind of comes under choice.
That you have a choice whether to do
that which Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala wants you
to do
or to do something different.
And you want to have a third lesson?
Sisters,
that you would be able to derive from
the story of
Musa'b ibn Rumayr.
Stay the course.
So consistency.
I love you for the sake of Allah.
So he reminded me of my third point
as well. So one thing is continuous
improvement.
One of the things that is very important
because, you know, iman goes into a person's
heart
and we get excited and we have that
awakening and we want to change, but that
dies down after some time.
And you see this a lot not only
with people who accept the faith.
Difficult difficulty comes in their path and then
eventually they leave the religion. Also, people who
are born Muslims,
you see them leaving and now becoming ex
Muslims.
So a key thing you see in the
life of the companions
and Musa'ib bin Umayr
is continuous
learning.
And I'm not talking about
continuous
gathering of information
because information does not create transformation.
It is the
implementation
of that information that creates change.
Mus'ab ibn Umayr and Lu Saba, they were
learning continuously. They're with the prophet sallallahu alaihi
wa sallam continuously.
They were implementing
continuously.
Umar bin Khabab and his son, it is
said that it took them one of them
it took them 8 years, another person 12
years to memorize Surat Al Baqarah.
In today's day and age,
a 7 year old child can memorize Surat
Al Baqarah probably in like 4 months.
But it took them 8 one of them
8, another one 12 years because their methodology
was different.
They would take the Quran, they would understand
what it meant, and they will go and
implement it.
So that continuous
learning and implementation,
that continuous journey to
growth.
Not
collecting information,
but growth. Even if it is 20 minutes
a day,
15 minutes a day, 30 minutes a day.
But to dedicate that time to always learn
because that gives a person that strength that
when things get difficult,
I have the references, I have the knowledge,
I have the experience
that I can make it. I know Allah
subhanahu wa ta'ala. I understand who he is.
I understand what he has given me. I
can tap into my resources. I recognize the
blessings that I have,
but that only happens with consistency.
It can't be one thing and then the
next one is 6 months later. And in
between that,
we waver. Things gonna happen. Imaan is gonna
go down.
But that continuous
commitment to learning.
May Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala allow us to
follow the example of the Prophet sallallahu alaihi
wa sallam. May Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala allow
us to
learn from these lessons.
May he allow us to be from those
individuals
who choose that which is pleasing to Him.
May He strengthen our faith.
May He
give us that ability to learn, but to
learn that which is beneficial
and to implement that which is beneficial.
May Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala give us the
best in this world and the next. May
Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala open the doors of
His mercy for us, for our family members,
for our loved ones. May Allah Subhanahu Wa
Ta'ala ease the suffering of the Muslims all
across the world.
We have, just one more thing before we
end. There's a brother who would like to
take a shahada,
so we'll do that and then we'll conclude.
How are you? What's your name? CJ? CJ.
Ready?
So we have our brother CJ with us,
ready to take Shahada.
So I will repeat and then you repeat
after me. So first, we'll do Arabic and
then we'll do English. Alright? So let's say,
