AI: Summary ©
So I'm gonna go fire.
We start out by praising Allah Subhanahu Wa
Ta'ala, the one who is worthy of all
of our praise and our gratitude.
It is Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala who gives
us different opportunities
and different chances throughout our lives
to redirect
ourselves
and refocus ourselves
towards that which is important, towards that which
should be a priority in our lives.
It is the law, subhanahu wa ta'ala, who
on the day of judgement will be the
one that will judge us. It is the
law, subhanahu wa ta'ala,
who only through his mercy will you and
I intern enter into paradise.
We then send peace and blessing upon the
prophet, Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam, the one that
was sent as not only as a mercy
to mankind, but mercy to the world.
Rasulullah salallahu alaihi wa sallam, the one that
was sent as a complete example,
not just to teach us how to worship
Allah, but how to conduct ourselves in a
day to day life within a community.
We then send peace and blessings upon the
companions of Rasool Allah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam and
the family members of Rasool Allah Sallallahu Alaihi
Wasallam,
those who helped him and aided him,
thereafter.
When the prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam
was roughly 15 years old,
an incident happened
where
a murder was committed,
but the murder
and the person who was killed were for
they were from 2 different tribes.
The person that was killed was from Taif,
and the person who committed the murder was
from Quraish.
Because of this one murder and this one
murder was
completely wrong, it could have easily been avoided.
The people of 5, what they ended up
doing is that they marched onto the people
of Quraysh. And of Quraysh,
because of their pride and ego, they said
that, you want to step up, let's go
to war.
They could have sat down and said, look,
we are in the wrong.
Tell us what we can do to correct
this mistake.
But
it was because of their egos they said,
let's go to war.
This rivalry between
Quraysh
and Banu Saqif,
Makka
and Taif,
over this one
murder,
lasted for
roughly
5 years.
5 years
this battle took on.
They've been on the battlefield for just 5
days, but this rivalry lasted over one life
and over eagles
lasted
for 5 years.
And this was when the Prophet salallahu alaihi
wa sallam was 15 years old, and when
this ends the Prophet salallahu alaihi wa sallam
is 20 years old, and as soon as
Rasool Allah Subhanahu Alaihi Wasallam turns 20 years
old, another instance of the first incident that
happens is called Harb ul Fijjar.
The inappropriate,
the sacrilegious,
the war that should not have happened. Everything
about it was wrong.
And immediately after this happens, another incident takes
place in Mecca,
where this person comes to buy and sell
and he brings his products.
And one of the Qurayshi people, they purchase
all of the products,
but when it comes time to pay,
they say, I don't know what you're talking
about.
And this person who brought everything,
all of his life spending
to do business now is scammed.
Now is cheated out of everything they own.
And they go door to door in Mecca
asking for help, but the people of Mecca,
they said that this person that scammed you
is one of ours so we're not gonna
help against
our own people.
And now this,
you know, foreigner,
he stands up in front Kaaba and he
makes this announcement
in this beautiful poetry, and he says that
this was meant to be a place of
safety.
I came here for the intention of Umrah,
and I'm still in my Ihram, in whatever
form of Ihram they used to have before
Islam.
But I also thought I would do business
and this place would be a place of
safety, but when this news reaches out
and people hear that when you come to
Mecca your wealth is not safe,
You will be stopping people from coming to
the house of Allah SubhanAllah and worshiping
Allah Subhanu wa Taala.
When this took when this happened,
a group of the Quraish, they gathered together
and they signed a contract.
And this contract
was called Halful Fuzdul.
The appropriate and the virtuous
contract.
And the contract basically stated
that whenever somebody is oppressed whether they are
from amongst us or they are a foreigner,
we will always
putting
our family,
And when this contract was signed, the prophet
salallahu alaihi wa sallam didn't sign it. Why?
Because he was just a 20 year old
kid. But the prophet salallahu alaihi wa sallam
says that I was there.
My uncle took me
when this contract was being signed.
And I wouldn't trade my presence
when the contract was being signed. The fact
that I was there, I wouldn't trade that
for a herd of reddish she camels.
A very expensive commodity.
The prophet said, I wouldn't even trade it
for that. That being there at that time
was very valuable
to me.
And we look at And the prophet salallahu
alaihi wa sallam, he then also says, if
the Quraysh or if anybody else were to
gather
to make a treaty like this now,
I would take part in it.
Now if you look
at this pact, Half al Fozul,
this pact was not led by Muslims.
The people who initiated the pact and they
wrote the pact that
supported it, they were all
pagans.
They were all idol worshipers.
But the prophet salallahu alaihi wa sallam, he
still appreciated it.
And you see this
common theme in life of Rasool Allah salallahu
alaihi wa sallam
that whenever there is something that happens whether
Muslims do it or non Muslims do it,
as long as it been as long as
it brings khair and good
to this community, to society, to people, to
within yourselves,
Rasool Allah salallahu alaihi wa sallam he would
adopt it. As long as it wasn't religious.
If it wasn't religious then the prophet salallahu
alaihi wa sallam would make a point to
differentiate between
Islamic practices and non Islamic practices. But if
it wasn't religious, the prophet
would take
from that which is good and anything bad
apart it, the prophet
would leave it.
And this is what the Khalaf al Fudul
teaches us that rasulullah salallahu alaihi wa sallam
tells us that look, if there's something good
that's happening,
whether it's an initiative that's from Muslims or
not Muslims,
as long as it brings you good and
it brings society good,
take it.
Preaches Islam privately. And then the prophet salallahu
alaihi wa sallam
gets the message to now go and preach
Islam openly.
The very famous incident the prophet salallahu alaihi
wa sallam climbs up the mountain of Safa,
and this was actually a Qurayshi tradition.
Whenever there was
a
emergency
and they had to have everybody
gather, what they would do is they would
climb up the mountain of Safa and they
would disrobe.
They would take off their clothes.
And they will call out so that anybody
that's close by they can hear it. Anybody
that's far away, they can see that there's
a person who had disrobed and this is
a sign of distress.
But the prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam when
he climbs up to the mountain of Safa
to call people,
once again he takes from that which is
good
and he leaves that which is immoral.
He calls onto people, but the prophet sallallahu
alaihi wa sallam does a there's a part
of it which is immoral and Rasool Allah
sallallahu alaihi wa sallam leaves that.
And this teaches us that anytime
that there's something that we can benefit from,
alhamdulillah, take it.
Now, the reason why we speak about
this, in the last week's Khutba, we talked
about
how the month of Muharram has started.
And the month of Muharram,
it marks
a new year in the Islamic calendar,
which was set by Omar Ibn Khattab.
The Omar
he gathers the companions. He asked the companions.
Where should we start our calendar?
And the whole thing when it comes to
the selection
of the Hijrah of Rasool Allah Sallallahu Alaihi
Wasallam, the purpose behind it was
the Hijrah was about change.
When Umar al Dun gathered the companions, and
we talked about in the last khutba, just
to briefly, you know, refresh,
He asked, where should we start our calendar?
And the companion, they gave their own opinions
that someone companion says that maybe we should
start it from the beginning, the birth of
Rasool Allah salallahu alaihi wa sallam.
But because that was before Islam, that date
isn't as authentic.
You know,
commonly we say the prophet was born on
the 12th of Rabi'i Awwal, but actually that
is the most weak. The more authentic is
the 9th, 10th or 11th.
But the 12th of Rabi'i Awal makes for
a cool story because we know the prophet
passed
away on the 12th of Rabi'i Awal. So
he was born on 12th,
passed away on 12th. It makes for a
cool story, and that's why it's become the
more authentic it's become the more famous, but
the least of authentic.
And what comes to mind is the screams
of Bilal.
What comes to mind is a shout of
kebab.
What comes to mind is Alayasser giving their
life.
But then Ali bin Abi Talib says that
how about we start the calendar from
Hijra?
And Umar bin Khattab says this right here
is the one. Why? Because
this bring brought change
in the condition of the Muslims that in
Mecca the Muslims were oppressed. In Mecca the
Muslims were weak. But as soon as the
hijrah takes place, it now turns over and
the Muslims
gain strength. The Muslims
become a force to reckon with. The Muslims,
an establishment
is put together.
Laws are put together. You know, aghaam are
put together. Halal and Haram is put together.
Now,
to connect these thoughts,
we live in a society where
when the new year comes in, people put
together New Year's resolutions.
And it's
not something that's particular to a religion.
It's a part of American culture.
And the first of Muharram or the month
of Muharram marks
a new year. And what usually tends to
happen is
we look for
occasions.
When this happens,
then I'll do that.
When I have my first child, then I'll
start to drive like an Indian son.
When I
purchase a house
then I'll start to save money.
When I
turn 40 then I'll start to come to
the masjid.
So what we do is that we look
for occasions
as an excuse
to bring change
into our lives.
When this thing happens,
then I will work on bringing a change
into my life.
And the first the month of Muharram,
along with
the beginning of the school year,
are 2 great excuses,
not reasons, but excuses
for a person to work on change
within themselves
and within
their family.
The way that I dealt with my children
last year now that schedule
our schedules are being set once again.
Over the summer, things were a bit
wishy washy. We were sleeping in this time.
We would go to, you know,
on random days. You know,
we would be out in the daytime.
But now that
our schedules,
our kids schedule, and our schedules are lining
back up,
This is a good excuse for a person
to
bring change
within themselves
and bring change within their
family.
But the reality is that change
to have any type of change,
the first step is
to understand that there is an issue.
The way that I deal with my children,
there are flaws within that.
Spend with my children,
the time that I give to my children.
Again, we're not talking about
the time that I work
so that I can provide for my children,
but the time that we have a 1
on 1 But yes, I come home from
work, and I may be
exhausted,
and I may be tired.
But am I giving my children that time
that they need that cured that they need.
And that's a very difficult question. And that's
the first part when you want to bring
changes to realize that there is a problem.
And the second part
of bringing change into your life is to
make an intention.
And one of these were salallahu
alaihi wa salam says,
whenever
a servant makes an intention of good,
at this moment in time, you make intention
that this coming year,
spouse. I will give more time to my
children.
Work on controlling my anger when it comes
to my children.
And I'll be patient with my spouse.
When a person makes that intention, the hadith
of the prophet is
as soon as you make the intention Allah
subhanahu wa ta'ala commands the angels to write
down that deed for you.
You haven't done it.
You haven't
tried to do it. You just made the
intention that inshallah
this coming year I'm gonna be different.
When I come home
instead of going to my room and watching
my TV,
I'll spend time with my children.
On the weekend instead of dragging my children
to dawats where they are completely bored, I
will ask them what do you wanna do?
I'm not saying that you don't don't be
social, but
a balance.
Immediately, Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala tells the angels,
go ahead and write down that good deed
for this person.
Then the hadith carries on
when this person goes and actually does the
deed,
when you actually put in that effort,
when you actually go through the struggle
of bringing a chain now the reality is
that any type of change that we bring
into our life is scary.
We want the results.
Whatever the results may be, the results seem
amazing to us, but to bring the change
that you need to achieve those results, that's
the scary part.
Many of us realize that maybe our health
is in a tough spot.
Many of us realize maybe our relationships are
in a tough spot. Maybe many of us
realize that my spirituality
is lacking.
And we know
what the secret is.
The secret is that there is no secret.
If your spirituality
is lacking, then you have to give that
time
to work on it. If your relationships
are lacking, the secret is that you have
to give time to nurture those relationships.
If your health is lacking, if your finance
is lacking, the secret is that you have
to put in the effort, the time
to build in that particular area, but the
problem is
putting that effort will bring change, and we
are scared
of adopting change into our lives.
And the reality is that,
that worry,
the reason why we're scared
is that we are worried that we might
feel out of
it. If I try to bring spirituality in
my life, if I try to come to
the most, then maybe I might come 1,
2, 3 days, but then what if I
If I try to live a healthier life,
if I try to work more and you
know, try to earn more money, what if
I fail?
What if I fail in my relationships?
What if I fail in this aspect where
I'm trying to bring change into my life,
but the truth is
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala hadith.
I'm sorry. In the Quran, Allah subhanahu says
that Allah will not change in this condition
of a nation until you yourself
make that change
first. You want that change, you make du'a
for that change, but then you say, oh
Allah, why hasn't
my situation improved?
Why am I still in a financial,
you know,
problem?
Why are my relationships
completely ruined?
Why is my spirituality low? And the the
first in the Quran, Allah subhanahu wa'ala says
you can ask but until you don't take
that first step, Allah subhanahu wa'ala will not
bring change to you. Another hadith
but see Allah subhan'hu says, when my servant
comes close to me a hand span, I
come close to him an arm span.
When you come walking towards that change, I
will come running to meet you with that
change.
Going back to that first hadith,
the prophet
then turns
the hadith around.
You make the intention, you get the reward.
You commit, you do the deed, you put
in that struggle, you get a second reward.
But the reality is our religion is not
fair.
Because the prophet says,
when you commit a when you make the
intention of a sin,
again, our religion is not fair.
Allah subhanahu
says,
don't write a hit.
He hasn't done it.
Maybe he might change his mind.
And the hadith says that if this person
changes their mind and stays away from that
sin, our religion is not fair. Allah subhanahu
tells angels, write a good deed for that
person.
Because somewhere,
they had the fear of Allah subhanahu wa
ta'ala.
And if that person actually goes through with
it,
then it's not that he gets 2 sins
or 10
sins, just
a single
one.
And the reason behind that is Allah Subhanahu
Wa Ta'ala wants us to adapt this change
within ourselves.
Intention that this year will be different from
last year. Life is not doing the same
thing every year,
that for the past 7 years you did
the exact same thing and now that you've
done it 70 times,
you now call it a life.
But that's actually called insanity
that you do the same thing over and
over, That you treat your children the same
way over and over, and you expect something
a different result.
You treat your spouse the same way over
and over, and you expect a different result.
You you the time that you put into
your spirituality,
again, it's the same thing, and you expect
a different result. That my friends is called
insanity.
The reality
on the other hand
is actually taking a step
towards change in this month of Muharram.
It marks attained in the Islamic calendar,
where the Muslims
went from one situation to another situation.
And for us, as a prophet salallahu alaihi
wa sallam did, whenever there was good that
he could take from the habits, from the
cultural
around him, the prophet salallahu alaihi wa sallam
adapted to good. And the good that we
have again, we live in a society where
when the new year comes in,
people work towards resolution and changes within themselves.
Again, this is not something that's
religion based.
It's cultural based, and it doesn't make a
a comparison or a mushaba with the non
Muslims. But
makes these people that are able to adapt
change into our lives in the upcoming years.
An oath of time.
And he says,
by the token of time, insan, you and
I are at a loss.
Years keep coming and going.
And this coming going of time,
it actually
testifies
that we
are at a loss. Why? Because there's no
progression.
There's no improvement.
The way that Mabine was last year in
2021,
August 2021 is exactly who Mabine is
this year
in August 2022.
Not just from a physical standpoint, not just
from the health
number 1, you have to have faith. Make
the intention have faith in Allah Subhanahu wa
ta'ala. Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala. Once you make
the intention, Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala will help
you and aid you
and will open the doors for you to
achieve
the goals that you set for yourself.
But just making the intention is not enough.
You have to
put your money where your mouth is.
You have to back it up with your
efforts. You have to back it up with
your commitment.
And this is the hardest thing. You know,
there's a urbic saying
that,
If you look at anybody that achieve has
achieved greatness,
the secret to greatness, the secret to
bringing that change into your life is.
Simple.
Number 1, you have to put in the
time. Number 2, once you put in the
effort, you have to have
in the effort. And the translation
is
stick
to it,
Being steadfast.
The prophet salallahu alayhi wa sama hadith says
that
The most beloved actions of Allah
are not that a person prays salah all
the time,
are not that person fast all the time,
or not that person reads the whole Quran
in one sitting, but the most beloved action
are the ones that you do continuously.
You stick to it
even though they are little.
That means if you can only give your
children the change that you're bringing into your
life, that every day before I go to
sleep and then check-in on my children You
know, in Texas here, we have the master
bedroom downstairs. So like, going upstairs, like, oh,
who's gonna go upstairs?
Have our spouse go and put them to
sleep. If you can bring that small bit
of change that before I go to sleep,
I mean go upstairs and I'm gonna put
them to sleep, check how they're doing, everything's
okay. That's it. Well, in Allah, that is
the most beloved actions to Allah Subhanahu Wa
Ta'ala.
Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala in the Quran,
he tells us and orders us,
Allah
Muhammad.
Oh, Allah. Subhanahu wa ta'ala. We ask for
mercy. Oh, Allah. Subhanahu wa ta'ala. We ask
to have mercy upon our community. Oh, Allah.
We ask to unite our community. Oh, Allah.
Subhanahu wa ta'ala. Whoever in our community is
sick, we ask that you give them shifa.
Oh, Allah. There is an 8 year old
child by name of Yousaf who has been
diagnosed with cancer. Oh, Allah. We ask that
you give him shifa. Oh, Allah. Brother Samir
Lakani's father had a heart surgery this past
week. We ask that you give him a
quick and complete recovery. Oh, Allah. If there's
anybody else in our community who is sick,
we ask that you give them shifa. You
ask that you give them strength and patient
during the hard time. Oh, Allah, if there's
anybody in our family in our community whose
family members have passed away, we ask that
you make the grace from the garden of
paradise. We ask that you give the family
members.
And during these difficult times, oh, Allah, subhanahu,
we ask that you forgive us. Oh, Allah,
we ask that you be pleased with us.
Oh, Allah, we ask for Jannah. Oh, Allah.
We seek protection from the fire of jahannam.
Oh, Allah. We ask for your guidance towards
that which is good. Oh, Allah. Make us
people who make an effort towards bringing change
into our life. Oh, Allah. Make us people
who make good intentions and then follow-up those
intentions with our actions. Oh, Allah, be pleased
with us. Oh, Allah, be pleased with us.
Oh, Allah, be pleased with us.
Allahu
Akbail. Allahu Akbail.
