All praises to Allah. May his peace and
blessings be upon his servant and messenger, our
master, Sayedham Muhammad, sallallahu alayhi wa sallam.
Today was a holiday amongst our home
amongst our people.
It was the day of Thanksgiving.
Ways of the kufar. This
ways of the.
This
is, in general, an admonition that is beneficial.
Sometimes, I think people overdo it a little
bit. Celebration. The people who,
the colonialists that first came to the,
northwest of this country, what they call New
England, they were, they were pilgrims. They were
essentially people who were,
deities amongst the Christians. They tried to, reinterpret
their Christianity based on, based
reinterpret their Christianity based on,
based on the text of the Bible and
live their faith in such a way that
was something that they
felt was more authentic.
And for that reason, the people in England
and the people in general in Europe hated
them.
And they,
made life very difficult for them. Country. And,
one of the reasons that Thanksgiving is on
a Thursday
is so that they could have a second
massive
because you go to you go to church
on Sunday. And we is 7 days.
Either going to be 3 days or 4
days. So it's essentially a midweek that they
used to have. And so this country, if
you're a protestor,
you would celebrate Thanksgiving. And if you're a
Protestant, you would celebrate Christmas
celebrate Thanksgiving. And if you're a Catholic, you
would celebrate. And after World War 1 and
World War 2, what would happen is like,
because
people had to mix with each other because
the military
so someone who's a Catholic would invite their
Protestant friends' buddies over to their house on
Christmas,
buddies over to the house on, on, on
Thanksgiving.
And so then it just became something that
people would do like both thanksgiving
religious
That's fine. Let's put that issue to the
side for a
someone makes an argument one way or another,
I'm not I'm not gonna die on that
hill that we're gonna, like, make a real
hard push that
Thanksgiving is kufir and the ship and it's
haram and, like, the whole Islam is gonna
fall apart if someone eats a turkey on
this day or whatever. There's arguments on either
side. That's not what we're what we wanna
talk about right now. But what we do
wanna talk about right now. But what we
do wanna talk about is this is the
point
the point of things giving is, as the
name indicates.
Occasion to make sure to Allah subhanahu wa
ta'ala. The original colonists that colonized some part
of this country,
they've run through difficulty.
I hear
you you went to high school here. Right?
The original colony in in Virginia at Roanoke,
what happened to them?
So the fact that that some people actually
made it from,
issue about like Native Americans and what was
done to them in this country that should
be discussed. They're not allowed to like
put that to the side for a second.
They're thankful that they that they made it
that they survived.
This is a part of the holiday.
Ironically, whether people are Muslims or not Muslims,
this is the one part of the holiday
that people are completely oblivious to.
What is sugar? Allah gives you a nahama.
Allah gives you a a blessing. What is
the way that you show thanks for
it
by not using it in haram?
That's that's the way you use sugar. All
that I gave you a $1,000,000. Okay. Don't
buy alcohol with it. Don't buy lottery tickets.
Don't buy, don't
buy a gun and like shoot somebody that
you're not supposed to shoot, which is more
or less every day. Don't do those things.
They're all haram
things. Go use use it for something permissible.
You know, take a vacation. Go buy something.
Go, you know, donate some of to the
masjid. Okay. That's a little too pious. Okay,
class. Don't do it. Donate it. Keep it
all yourself, but don't use it in a
haram. Right?
What is what is it that people do
in this time? They get together, they get
drunk. Muslims will go to the parties of
other people on thanksgiving. They're drinking going on.
There's hiba backbiting going on. People are fighting
giving. They're drinking going on. There's reba backbiting
going on. People are fighting with one another,
etcetera, etcetera.
Someone sent, someone sent a meme. It says
to save kind of this year, in order
to save, money on Christmas presents, I'm going
to, show up on thank giving and tell
people about my political views. That are not
sugar. They're not using the the blessing, in
in in that way that Allah
has permitted.
And then further than that, there's this bigger
monster that happens, which is what
all of us are waiting for. It's Black
Friday.
Of the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam that the
most beloved By the way, this talk may
go like 15 minutes instead of 10 minutes.
So if someone has to leave, you're more
than welcome to. I figured that nobody
or very sure less people than usual have
to like wake up in the morning tomorrow.
So I'll indulge myself with the extra 5,
6 minutes.
Black Friday, what is it? Hadith prompts of
some of the best of most beloved of
places to Allah to Allah are the masajid
and the most hated of places to Allah
are the marketplaces.
Now you can you go to the marketplace
and buy halal things from there and, you
know, it's not you kill anybody over there.
It's not like you,
you know, do anything harm. You get drunk
at the
marketplace. Why is the marketplace mentioned?
Why? Because it's diametrically opposed to the masjid,
in the sense that the masjid is supposed
to be the place where the remembrance of
Allah.
Right? That's why we turned the phone off
is because you have to silence the remembrance
of other than Allah in order to remember
Allah. And the problem with the marketplace is
what is
More likely than not, usually, it's a place
of heableness.
A person may be thinking about dunya even
if that dunya is halal, and there's nothing
wrong with that. But the fact that it
distracts a person from the remembrance of Allah
subhanahu wa ta'ala means that the barakah and
the blessings of that place are sat.
So how ironic is it? How ironic is
it? That not only does the poem have
something called thanksgiving,
and it's followed by Black Friday,
Things
people don't need.
People don't need. Not everybody is not buying
things they don't need. Some people need things.
I'm not talking about them. I'm talking about
the majority of people that literally obsess about
it, and that these door buster sales, and
they line up, you know, outside of the
door of the Walmart in a way that
they wouldn't line up in front of the
door of the cab itself,
you know, or in the same way that
a person would line up in front of
the door of the in order to buy
stuff they really don't need. And who's making
these things? You know who's making these
things that we're buying? It's all made in
China. A good amount of it is made
up slave labor from our brothers and sisters
who are put in these like concentration camps.
The biggest concentration camps that the world has
seen since the nazis,
had their concentration camps in World War 2.
And what are the reasons that those people
were put on this what they call reeducation
camps or concentration camps?
Because someone complained about *, because someone prays
5 times a day, because someone went to
Hajj, because somebody grew a beard, because a
woman wore a hijab.
These are literally the reasons that the Chinese
Communist Party has written as directives
for putting someone in in in one of
these concentration camps. These are where your shoes
are coming from. These are where your TVs
are coming from. These are really all of
the junk that we buy. And I say
junk because you really don't need any of
these things in order to be a fulfilled
human being.
The junk that we buy comes from those
places.
And they're not even the ones making the
money. The Chinese are not the ones who
are making the money off of it. Who's
the one making money off of it in
this country? These huge corporations.
These huge corporations, which are the ones who
profit from war. They're the ones who profit
from xenophobia.
They're the ones who profit from,
the military industrial complex. They're the ones who
profit from the destruction of the environment. They're
the ones who literally pay people to, like,
fake that global warming is a fiction. They're
the ones who do all of these things,
which make no sense in any way shape
or form except for in order to make
a buck for those few particular people to
make a buck. And this is the day
that we give for for for to those
people who are not valid recipients of.
Those are the people who've declared enmity against
God's creation. And to make enmity with the
creation of Allah is to make enmity with
himself, and he doesn't forgive this. So it's
fine. If you need something, you know, you're
a student, you're going to school, you need
a computer. I admit to you that between
Thanksgiving and
Christmas is probably the best time or between
Thanksgiving and New Year is probably the time
you get the best deal on a laptop
computer or something. You need to go ahead
and buy it. I'm not talking at you
right now. But the you need to go
up and buy it. I'm not talking I'm
not talking at you right now. But these
weird sales people are obsessing with and then
we as Muslims, what do we say?
Thanksgiving is, not a Muslim holiday. We're not
gonna celebrate it. But Black Friday has nothing
to do with, religion. So it's all good.
Which there is a naked, you know,
shameless,
completely naked, unclothed,
greed and consumerism,
we wholeheartedly embrace it.
We wholeheartedly embrace it. You don't want to
embrace it. It's not good.
There's not
There's not goodness in it. Right? The good
of Friday is not in this Black Friday
making lines out the door and then cyber,
Cyber Monday and all of this other nonsense.
Don't enrich these people. They're using the money
literally to destroy to destroy this, to destroy
destroy this, to destroy the poor people of
this country, to destroy the fabric, the the
the unity of the people of this country
in order to make a quick buck. Don't
go down that path.
Resist it. You know? Do something You know
you know what we what we should do?
Do something in order that's a revolutionary act
of revolutionary what's a revolutionary act? And he's
like, oh, shit. He's talking about revolution now.
They're gonna take him to jail. He's gonna
end up in Guantanamo.
No.
You know why America has the most powerful
army in the world? America is not a
military empire. You know what a military empire
was like Sparta, where every citizen is like
required to learn how to fight and like
has a shield and has a unit and
they're like they fight like 6 months out
of the year. America is not a military
empire.
The people who are the most revered in
this culture are not the people who are
the warriors. In fact, the military people are
treated with relative disrespect in this country.
America's commercial. It's a mercantile empire.
It all has to do with the money.
So if any of us were alive back
then, some of them some of the young
people may not remember this, that after 9:11
went to Jordan Bush, one of his first
messages was, keep buying things.
Keep buying things. Keep going to the store
and buying things. Things. Tell me something if
this is real, like, reign of terror out
of the sky is falling down on this
country and it's a huge existential threat that
we have to mobilize these huge armies and
spend 1,000,000,000 of dollars a day in order
to, in order to fight this threat of
terror quote unquote whatever it is. Why is
the message keep buying
Because the fear has nothing to do with
anything that's, a military conflict. The fear all
has to do with certain rich people getting
less money.
That's all it has to do with it.
The reason America has the most powerful military
in the world is because that military is
a small and necessary expense that's largest economy
of the world, the largest, essentially, global monopoly,
in the world, which is fine,
Which is fine. So if you want to
if you know that the root of the
evil is not the desire to fight and
kill, but the root of the evil is
what? Greed.
Revolutionary act that you can do? Are you
gonna stand up in the street and start,
you know, try to pick a fight with
a police officer?
If you do, you'll end up dead, and
it's probably gonna be your bad.
And I don't I don't
recommend it. Why? Because even if the military,
the police of this country
sometimes and oftentimes will do unjust things, but
only a lunatic would think that any society
can function without having a military or any
society can function without having order enforced by
police force.
It doesn't matter. Some police officers are bad.
This doesn't mean that we can have any
society without police. So no. That's not the
the act I'm pointing towards. What am I
talking about?
Resist it. Fight the urge. Don't buy anything.
Pious woman, take the money and spend it
in charity. Give it in salakat
for your brothers and sisters in Gaza and
for refugees in
camps,
in,
you know, outside of Burma and outside of,
you know, all of these places where people
are suffering. We're literally the dollar that you
would, you know, it's not even good enough
for you to blow your nose in. It
will mean a lot to them.
But if you can't do that and you
don't want to do that, if money is
tight or if it's not tight, you just
wanna, you know, spend it on yourself,
keep it for something more meaningful.
You don't need. You know? Instead of spending
your money to, be wasted in China in
order to pollute like some river and like,
you know, enslave your brothers
sisters over there. Buy something that's handmade that's
more expensive over here instead of buying 10
shirts that are that are, made in a
factory somewhere, buy like one shirt that you
can just wear and it's high quality and
will last you for several years. Buy it
local. You know,
spend
person to consume more and more and more
like a lot of Alice says in his
book.
You have been you have been,
you have been your time has been wasted.
And, like, competing with each other in order
to get more and more. And all of
this, the one day that you'll realize is
completely useless is what?
Right? Right? What the day you visit the
graves. Not the day you visit the graves
like for someone else's janaza. The day you
visit the graves for one particular janaza. You
know who's?
Your
own. Indeed, you'll know one day. Indeed, you'll
verily, you'll know one day.
Nay, indeed, when you know that knowledge of,
certainty,
when will it become certain?
I've gone to other people's before,
and I myself have, like, just done, buried
the person, and then, hey, let's go hang
out and not bat it in eyelash.
It happens.
Especially, I met imams who I go to
every with Janaza. Right?
It happens.
What's the one time it's never it's not
gonna happen? That I'm not gonna be able
to go back to, like, the way things
were and just chill out afterward when it's
my own.
The day that you know this knowledge with
certainty, with full certainty.
That day, indeed, you'll see the hellfire right
in front of you.
That day, you'll be indeed verily, indeed, emphatically,
you'll be asked about the blessings Allah gave
you. Just fight the urge. Fight the urge.
We don't celebrate Christmas.
Right? We don't celebrate Christmas. Why?
1st of all, say, not Islam. 1st of
all, we're not Christians. 2nd of all, say,
not Islam wasn't even born that day.
A person intuitively knows why we don't celebrate
Christmas. Right? Guess what? If you celebrated it
out of ikhiram of saying nayhis sala alayhis
salaam, it's still a bit to represent reprehensible
innovation. But I could understand why a person
would have a good intention in it. What?
Because they want to honor one of the
prophets of Allah ta'ala.
Even if it's wrong, there could be a
person who has a good intention because of
lack of
understanding that that that takes them into it.
If you're gonna celebrate Christmas, and then you're
not gonna celebrate Christmas, and then you're gonna
celebrate, boxing day afterward,
How much dumber is that? Because that's what
is naked, unabashed greed,
unabashed consumerism.
This is not what our messenger, salallahu alaihi
wa sallam, brought us for. You can buy
whatever you need. You can buy whatever you
want. But to celebrate and to under to
to to celebrate and to, like, take joy
in this, definition of your own happiness to
what you buy and what you consume.
This is like a violation of the most
basic teaching of deen, of Islam, of,
of of Nabuah, of any deen whatsoever much
as the in the deen alayhi Islam. The
deen that Allah
accepts, which is the dean of submission, the
dean of Islam. So don't don't engross yourself
in these things. Fight the urge. Consider for
tomorrow that you come to Jum'ah and your
your good deed is just not to buy
anything.
Right? It's a revolutionary act. Things will change
because of this act. You don't know things
will change because of this act. When you,
when you refuse to participate in this like
bread and circus type of nonsense, which is
really destroying this country and it's destroying this
ummah as well. Rasoolullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam will
end with this. He said this. He said
what? He says that I don't fear for
you poverty.
Rather, I fear for you the dunya and
I don't fear for your poverty. The prophet
said all of the sudden, knew that a
Allah will give us a lot. Allah gave
us so much the the most wealthy lands
in the world that belong to us.
Us. There's only one small country in what
they call the Middle East that doesn't have
oil.
It's Israel. It's the part that the
currently control. It's also ours, but it's the
one that they have right now sovereignty over
every other country of the muslim world has
oil or some sort of,
treasure that we get out of the ground,
and our people eat and drink for free.
Russell says, I'm not afraid of poverty for
you.
If we have to endure poverty, we'll endure
it with dignity.
Rather, I'm afraid of, of what of the
dunya? That the dunya will open up over
you like it opened up over the people
before you and that you'll vie with one
another. You're not gonna compete with one another.
You know who memorizes the Quran first
or who gives more in salakat
or who's the one who, makes it to
the house of Allah Or who's the one
who,
brings more people to the masjid and have
them take the shahada? Or who's the one
who wakes up every night, you know, for
the last 40 years and never missed the
Hajjid?
Those things will end at the day that
dunya opens up for you. You'll vie with
one another, you'll compete with one another over
whose TV is bigger, whose computer is bigger,
whose car is more expensive, whose house has
more square feet, and that better Jacuzzi and
God knows all. All these things are halal.
None of them are are up. If you
really need them, go for it. Knock yourself
out.
But what? To make this your competition with
one another because this is how you view
yourself that are you a success or are
you a failure based on this one thing.
Who you marry, who you make friends with,
who you look up to, who you vote
for, who you,
think about, who you take as a role
model.
Right? That you'll vie with one another for
this thing, like the others vie with one
another for this thing, and it will destroy
you just like it destroyed them. Don't you
know that this this this way of living?
Any throne before us, any throne and every
throne before us who took it as a
way of life, it destroyed every single one
of them.
That it will destroy you like it destroyed
them. Allah ta'ala be our protection.
Insha'Allah, you know, take it easy take it
easy off the doorbusters.
If you had an intention to buy my
personal dua right now, if you had an
intention to buy something that you didn't need,
if you needed it, go ahead and buy
it. That you had an intention to buy
something you didn't need or to go to
the store just to look at those things
that you didn't need, whoever allah subhanahu wa
ta'ala, whoever hears this talk,
and because it changes their intention, it doesn't
go to the store tomorrow.
And whoever doesn't buy something tomorrow because of
that intention, out of love and respect for
our brothers and sisters who suffer for it
and out of love and respect for our
qaum who's suffering for it and our qaum
who's suffering for it. Our qaum is the
America and our
prophet were suffering for it. And out of
hatred to enrich those people who wish people
ill for the creation of Allah Subhanahu wa
ta'ala. Whoever doesn't go tomorrow, my dua is
with you. May Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala forgive
your sins and raise your rank and give
you a good destiny in this world and
the hereafter.
