Salam aleikum wa rahmatullah wa barakato. Welcome back to the

00:00:04 --> 00:00:08

Ramadan reflections. As usual let us begin with our verse for the

00:00:08 --> 00:00:14

day are all the Himalaya shade Lani Raji Mavis Mila Hebrew Manuel

00:00:14 --> 00:00:17

Brahim? What a Selby Ruby

00:00:19 --> 00:00:26

tollbooth and me who work in lb ra many telco What do you mean Abu

00:00:26 --> 00:00:33

Dhabi her what the hula hut I like him to flee Hoan This is a very

00:00:33 --> 00:00:36

prominent verse of Surah Baqarah which is chapter two of the Quran,

00:00:36 --> 00:00:41

verse 189, to be particular, Allah subhanho wa Taala says it is not a

00:00:41 --> 00:00:46

virtue, while it's still better it is not a virtue of virtue is not

00:00:46 --> 00:00:50

that you enter your house is from the back. And that will be with me

00:00:50 --> 00:00:54

whoo hoo ha that you go and literally make an effort not to

00:00:54 --> 00:00:56

you avoid entering from the front of the house, you're gonna enter

00:00:56 --> 00:01:01

from the back of your house. Rather, virtue is that you fear

00:01:01 --> 00:01:07

Allah. Right. Virtue is the one who has Taqwa. And who has God

00:01:07 --> 00:01:11

consciousness. What do you mean Abu Dhabi has. So now enter your

00:01:11 --> 00:01:16

home through the proper doors, and fear Allah so that you may prosper

00:01:16 --> 00:01:17

and be successful.

00:01:18 --> 00:01:24

Now, what's this about entering the houses from the back instead

00:01:24 --> 00:01:29

of the front? And what is that all about? Now those you know who read

00:01:29 --> 00:01:34

Tafseer and who read the Quran and the notes on the Quran, they will

00:01:34 --> 00:01:40

notice that there's a contextual background to this, though it

00:01:40 --> 00:01:44

provides for a huge principle afterwards, right? There's a

00:01:44 --> 00:01:46

there's a background to this verse and it speaks about something very

00:01:46 --> 00:01:49

specific. But the

00:01:50 --> 00:01:54

the message of it is much broader than that. And this goes back to

00:01:54 --> 00:01:58

the time of Joe Hillier, the people in Makkah, they used to go

00:01:58 --> 00:02:02

for Hajj. And until the Hajj was not entirely over, if they came

00:02:02 --> 00:02:05

back to Makkah, or they were in Makkah, they would go to haram,

00:02:06 --> 00:02:09

sorry, they would go to Mina artifacts and you know, most

00:02:09 --> 00:02:13

Delavan, places like that, they would actually go to these places

00:02:13 --> 00:02:16

for the rights but where if they came back home in the midst of all

00:02:16 --> 00:02:20

of this, if they're if their houses were close by and they came

00:02:20 --> 00:02:23

in the midst of this, they would not enter the house from the

00:02:23 --> 00:02:25

front, they thought he was prohibited. They thought it was

00:02:25 --> 00:02:29

strange. It was out of sanctity for the house of God, that they

00:02:29 --> 00:02:33

had to finish all of their rituals and their rights until they could

00:02:33 --> 00:02:36

enter their houses from the front. So they would either climb over a

00:02:36 --> 00:02:40

wall, they would get in from the roof, if there was space there or

00:02:40 --> 00:02:42

they would come in from the back door, they would not go in from

00:02:42 --> 00:02:45

the front. Now remember, this is not something that Allah subhanaw

00:02:45 --> 00:02:50

taala had told them to do, and even recommended or even approved

00:02:50 --> 00:02:54

of for that matter. That's why Allah subhanaw taala prohibits it

00:02:54 --> 00:02:56

here. And that's why Allah subhanaw taala condemns it and

00:02:56 --> 00:03:01

dispels this misconception, right saying that in Islam, none of this

00:03:01 --> 00:03:03

is going to happen. This is completely wrong, what they're

00:03:03 --> 00:03:06

doing, right? Go into your house is the normal way. I mean, what

00:03:06 --> 00:03:08

difference is made that you go the back? Are you still going to your

00:03:08 --> 00:03:13

house, this is just a totally nonsense, smooth superstition or

00:03:14 --> 00:03:19

misconception misunderstanding. So that is the particular message

00:03:19 --> 00:03:22

here. Okay, that is the particular message. That's the context in

00:03:22 --> 00:03:26

which this verse was revealed. However, it provides for a huge

00:03:26 --> 00:03:30

lesson for us, okay, it provides for a huge lesson for us. And

00:03:30 --> 00:03:32

mashallah shaker would have seen that we, for example, he mentions

00:03:32 --> 00:03:38

here on this, that this is providing for a very common sense

00:03:38 --> 00:03:42

approach. This is the verse verse that tells us have common sense,

00:03:42 --> 00:03:47

you know, do things in the normal way, in the natural way. Because

00:03:47 --> 00:03:52

it's natural and normal to enter a house, a place, your domicile,

00:03:52 --> 00:03:55

your place of residence, or your place of work through a proper

00:03:55 --> 00:03:59

entrance. Of course, sometimes maybe the back entrance is closer,

00:03:59 --> 00:04:01

maybe you don't want to be seen. So for particular reasons like

00:04:01 --> 00:04:04

that, it's fine, but otherwise go in from the front door, because

00:04:04 --> 00:04:08

that's what's normal. The Quran, as you know, and Islam is a

00:04:08 --> 00:04:11

complete code of life, encompassing every aspect of our

00:04:11 --> 00:04:16

life, right, and directing basically all classes of people in

00:04:16 --> 00:04:19

every phase of their life. So here Allah subhanaw taala is

00:04:19 --> 00:04:23

instructing men in this basic truth, basic reality about

00:04:23 --> 00:04:28

entering houses. However, the directive as I said, is reflective

00:04:28 --> 00:04:33

of the Quranic stance on life as a whole. Right? The Quran is very

00:04:33 --> 00:04:36

comprehensive, and those who study the Quran will understand that

00:04:36 --> 00:04:40

while there will be certain verses in the Quran about a very

00:04:40 --> 00:04:42

particular scenario about a very particular

00:04:43 --> 00:04:48

event, there's so much that Allah subhanaw taala provides beyond

00:04:48 --> 00:04:51

that when you read between the lines, there are broader messages

00:04:51 --> 00:04:56

more universal guidances that are provided from very specific

00:04:56 --> 00:04:59

encounters very specific messages. That's the beauty of the Quran.

00:05:00 --> 00:05:05

that, it will just keep opening up opening itself up to much more

00:05:05 --> 00:05:10

light and much more guidance. So just the way we're told here, that

00:05:10 --> 00:05:14

people are told here that go to your house in the right way. We're

00:05:14 --> 00:05:19

told that whenever in every aspect of life, if you want to learn

00:05:19 --> 00:05:22

something, if you want to pursue something, do it the correct way.

00:05:22 --> 00:05:26

Do it the proper way. Right? Do it the proper way. Yes, if you can

00:05:26 --> 00:05:29

come up with a more creative way, and it's the proper way, then

00:05:29 --> 00:05:33

that's fine. If it's, you know, it'll give you success. But the

00:05:33 --> 00:05:36

main thing is that don't do things in an incomplete manner, in the

00:05:36 --> 00:05:40

wrong manner, in a half hearted manner. And in a misconstrued

00:05:40 --> 00:05:44

manner. So for example, if you're going to learn a trade, then

00:05:44 --> 00:05:47

you're going to have to go and learn the trade at the

00:05:48 --> 00:05:51

feet of a competent teacher. So there's, for example, some

00:05:51 --> 00:05:54

plumbers, I've met some builders that I've met, and I say, where do

00:05:54 --> 00:05:57

you learn this? I mean, they didn't go to school for it. Right?

00:05:57 --> 00:05:59

They literally didn't go to school for it, what happened, he said

00:05:59 --> 00:06:02

that they actually some of them even tried to get in, but they

00:06:02 --> 00:06:04

couldn't get into the course. So what he did was, he just started

00:06:04 --> 00:06:11

to work with another plumber, work with a builder and basically learn

00:06:11 --> 00:06:13

the trade that way. And then after that, there was you know, insert

00:06:13 --> 00:06:17

certain trades like electric electricity and electrical work

00:06:17 --> 00:06:20

and plumbing, you actually need a certain certification and license,

00:06:20 --> 00:06:23

then you can go and get it in afterwards in a retrospective way,

00:06:24 --> 00:06:27

right. So you're going to have to make that effort to do it in any

00:06:27 --> 00:06:31

particular way that works, right? In a way that works. So

00:06:33 --> 00:06:35

anybody who wants that they're going to have to be at with a

00:06:35 --> 00:06:39

competent teacher, gain familiarity with the tools,

00:06:40 --> 00:06:44

advanced one's knowledge, step by step, see what doesn't work, what

00:06:44 --> 00:06:47

does work. Otherwise, if they tried to do this themselves, it's

00:06:47 --> 00:06:50

gonna take much longer, it's much easier to do it with somebody else

00:06:50 --> 00:06:54

who has the understanding. Now, without thorough grounding in the

00:06:54 --> 00:06:59

subject, one cannot expect to gain any success, right? And, for

00:06:59 --> 00:07:02

example, in certain professions, you know, if it requires a

00:07:02 --> 00:07:07

uniform, a certain way to dress, because to print for prediction,

00:07:07 --> 00:07:14

or for to be in a certain way, then let that be the case. Allah

00:07:14 --> 00:07:18

subhanaw taala is sanctioning that idea that as long as it's halal,

00:07:18 --> 00:07:21

and that's what it's there. That's what it's for. One who thinks, you

00:07:21 --> 00:07:26

know, sometimes you've got people who think you know, who fall foul

00:07:26 --> 00:07:30

of this verse would be maybe a person. One example would be that

00:07:30 --> 00:07:34

a person who may think very high of their mental acumen, mental

00:07:34 --> 00:07:39

ability, and they refuse to follow a system, and then eventually they

00:07:39 --> 00:07:42

don't achieve success, right? Especially at a young age because

00:07:42 --> 00:07:45

you have no experience. Right? Especially at a young age, listen

00:07:45 --> 00:07:49

to your parents. Listen to the people who know. I mean, Allah

00:07:49 --> 00:07:52

says, another verse, verse, Allah Vickery In Kuntum, lotta Allah

00:07:52 --> 00:07:56

moon, as the people of knowledge, as the people have reminded us the

00:07:56 --> 00:08:00

people of the mansion, right? If you do not know, that's a that's a

00:08:00 --> 00:08:04

rule. I call up people. So I've got a plumber friend, I call him

00:08:04 --> 00:08:05

and I say,

00:08:06 --> 00:08:09

you know, so and so I've got a I've got a fatwa to ask you,

00:08:10 --> 00:08:12

right? So like, what are you asking me a fatwa for? Basically

00:08:12 --> 00:08:14

I'm saying a plumbing fatwa. I mean, I don't want to denigrate

00:08:14 --> 00:08:17

the word fatwa here. But basically, I've got a question to

00:08:17 --> 00:08:21

ask you. Right? Regardless of who you are, you know, you go the

00:08:21 --> 00:08:25

right way to get things don't do it in the wrong way.

00:08:27 --> 00:08:27

So

00:08:29 --> 00:08:31

you see, what we have to understand what the Quran is

00:08:31 --> 00:08:35

telling us through this is that divine laws are based on the many

00:08:35 --> 00:08:39

of them are based on human nature and absolute common sense. Right?

00:08:39 --> 00:08:43

If one doesn't follow the laws of nature, one cannot reach one's

00:08:43 --> 00:08:46

goals. Yes, sometimes there is a misunderstanding of what the local

00:08:46 --> 00:08:50

law of nature is. For example, if you take a simple idea of

00:08:50 --> 00:08:54

literacy, right, your children or you've moved to a different

00:08:54 --> 00:08:57

country, or you want to learn a new language, you want to learn

00:08:57 --> 00:09:00

Arabic or you want to learn, you know, you want to learn Turkish or

00:09:00 --> 00:09:03

Spanish or whatever the case is, you know, try as you might, if you

00:09:03 --> 00:09:05

don't learn the alphabet, you're not going to get anywhere with

00:09:05 --> 00:09:10

that language. You have to have the basic building blocks to learn

00:09:10 --> 00:09:13

something, right? You can you can be a genius, but you're not going

00:09:13 --> 00:09:16

to learn a language without first mastering its alphabet in a sense,

00:09:17 --> 00:09:20

right? In you know, whether you do that conventionally

00:09:20 --> 00:09:23

unconventionally, you're going to you're going to need that. So

00:09:25 --> 00:09:27

now, what we have to understand here is that when it comes again,

00:09:27 --> 00:09:31

from a Muslim perspective, while this law is general for Muslims

00:09:31 --> 00:09:34

and non Muslims this principle this way forward, right, this this

00:09:34 --> 00:09:35

way of life,

00:09:36 --> 00:09:39

there are for a Muslim there's always going to be two streams to

00:09:39 --> 00:09:44

everything, right? Which, which eventually, it's going to they're

00:09:44 --> 00:09:48

going to become distinct from one another at a certain level. Right?

00:09:48 --> 00:09:53

So for example, when it comes to religious knowledge, right, that

00:09:53 --> 00:09:56

you when it comes to religious knowledge that you're trying to

00:09:56 --> 00:09:59

acquire because mashallah lots of people have a dream of learning

00:09:59 --> 00:10:00

more

00:10:00 --> 00:10:03

about their faith to an advanced level, intermediate to advanced

00:10:03 --> 00:10:07

level. And, you know, this is a time when people feel good about

00:10:07 --> 00:10:11

it and feel that they can start so they should do but one thing we

00:10:11 --> 00:10:14

have to remember is that with worldly knowledge, sincerity is

00:10:14 --> 00:10:18

not as important you know, because you you know,

00:10:19 --> 00:10:22

as a plumber, you know, you could be insincere but you'd probably

00:10:22 --> 00:10:25

learn the trade right an electrician, you'd learn the trade

00:10:25 --> 00:10:28

a builder you learn the trade, a graphic designer, a

00:10:29 --> 00:10:34

would you call it a an IT person, you know, you'd learn this kind of

00:10:34 --> 00:10:36

stuff, but when it comes to religious knowledge, there are the

00:10:36 --> 00:10:40

proper way is to actually have sincerity to do it for the sake of

00:10:40 --> 00:10:45

Allah subhanaw taala to do it for some very praiseworthy purpose.

00:10:45 --> 00:10:49

Otherwise, you're gonna have a problem with it. There's the

00:10:49 --> 00:10:52

famous statement of Imam Shafi when he complained to his teacher

00:10:52 --> 00:10:57

about his poor memory. And his his teacher said you need to shun sin,

00:10:57 --> 00:11:02

because this sacred knowledge represent Allah is not light,

00:11:02 --> 00:11:05

right? It is a light from Allah subhanaw taala which is not

00:11:05 --> 00:11:08

granted to those who are disobedient. May Allah subhanaw

00:11:08 --> 00:11:10

taala protect us. And

00:11:11 --> 00:11:14

likewise, another thing that really helps when it comes to

00:11:14 --> 00:11:18

sacred knowledge, the proper way to do it, is that what it should

00:11:18 --> 00:11:22

be coupled with one's commitment to the Sunnah, right, it should

00:11:22 --> 00:11:26

be. It should be with one's commitment to the Sunnah and

00:11:26 --> 00:11:27

revulsion

00:11:28 --> 00:11:33

towards innovations in matters of faith and sin and full devotion to

00:11:33 --> 00:11:37

Allah subhanaw taala. And then if you do this, Allah subhanaw taala

00:11:37 --> 00:11:41

will confer this light upon you. Allah will give you heaps, Allah

00:11:41 --> 00:11:45

subhanaw taala will give you this light, and Allah subhanaw taala

00:11:45 --> 00:11:50

will bestow it upon you. We ask Allah subhana wa Taala to allow us

00:11:50 --> 00:11:50

to

00:11:52 --> 00:11:56

follow the spirit of this verse of doing things in the correct way,

00:11:57 --> 00:12:02

and not to protect us from misunderstanding. And, you know,

00:12:02 --> 00:12:06

there's actually some people have a very lenient approach to things.

00:12:07 --> 00:12:12

And sometimes the absolute linear approach is too debilitating. It's

00:12:12 --> 00:12:16

too limited. Other people have a lateral approach to things. And

00:12:16 --> 00:12:19

the problem with full lateral approach is that sometimes you

00:12:19 --> 00:12:22

just can't get because you're totally taking unconventional

00:12:22 --> 00:12:25

means. All right, so sometimes you're successful, sometimes

00:12:25 --> 00:12:29

you're not the best combination is both a literal and a lateral

00:12:29 --> 00:12:33

approach. The literal approach is essentially where you follow the

00:12:33 --> 00:12:37

steps, like in a literal fashion of something lateral approach is

00:12:37 --> 00:12:41

where you see where you're trying to go. And you try to sometimes

00:12:41 --> 00:12:46

improvise, you sometimes try to be creative in trying to get there,

00:12:46 --> 00:12:50

you need to do both, and when a combination of that makes the most

00:12:50 --> 00:12:53

successful person generally, may Allah subhanaw taala grant us

00:12:53 --> 00:12:56

success may Allah subhanaw taala bless us all, and make this

00:12:56 --> 00:13:00

Ramadan better than any before it. Please, please remember us in your

00:13:00 --> 00:13:04

prayers, and we will remember you in our prayers. Allah bless you

00:13:04 --> 00:13:07

all, as salaam alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakaatuh.

00:13:09 --> 00:13:13

The point of a lecture is to encourage people to act to get

00:13:13 --> 00:13:18

further an inspiration and encouragement, persuasion. The

00:13:18 --> 00:13:22

next step is to actually start learning seriously to read books

00:13:22 --> 00:13:26

to take on a subject of Islam and to understand all the subjects of

00:13:26 --> 00:13:29

Islam at least at the basic level, so that we can become more aware

00:13:29 --> 00:13:33

of what our deen wants from us. And that's why we started Rayyan

00:13:33 --> 00:13:39

courses so that you can actually take organize lectures on demand

00:13:39 --> 00:13:41

whenever you have free time, especially for example, the
