And today I will be talking about how to achieve your goals, how to achieve your goals. I'll be discussing what goal setting is, why do we have to set goals and three important strategies on how you can set your own goals. Goal setting is basically a system which has been established a long time ago to help individuals measure their progress. Let me give you an example. Let's say you want to lose 50 pounds? Well, it seems like a huge achievement 100 questions go through your mind, how long will it
take? What do I have to do? How fast Will I lose it, etc. Many people begin this way, but they give up quite easily because they don't have all the strategies worked out. This type of achievement without structure will fail quickly. When we set a goal, we look at this project as a whole. And then we divided into many parts. So 50 pounds, if lost in a healthy way is losing two pounds a week. That gives us 25 weeks to lose 50 pounds. That is about six months. By having this in mind, it seems much more reasonable. losing two pounds a week doesn't seem like a big deal. It says pretty doable. Okay, so what next? Now we've defined what the big goal is, which is losing 50 pounds. Now we have
to divide that into 25 weeks. Now after we've divided we make into a weekly project. So how much easier is it to look at losing weight in terms of a week, we have a big picture in the back of our mind. But we need to look at the smaller pictures now to be able to see how to get to that big picture. So two pounds a week doesn't seem so bad. Now we go out there looking for a weight loss program. If you're doing the bill Phillips challenge, which I did, then you've lost you have 12 weeks of workout Buddha's strategy set up by Bill already. All you have to do is follow it. I hope that you're starting to see what goal setting gets to be most effective goals have to look realistic
to you. They can't seem unbelievable to you. losing two pounds seems normal and achievable. Because millions have done it. Now the second question, why do you have to set goals is there has to be a reason so compelling that we want to accomplish something our reason has to be strong enough to make us take action. An example of this would be that if you want to lose 50 pounds, it's your doctor that I told you to do so or you want to be more active or you want to be able to fit in your old clothes. Lastly, you just want to be healthy. Once your y is defined, now the steps in achieving your goal becomes easier. Your desire becomes strong to try to reach that goal. And you basically
push yourself to complete it. Your purpose has to be more than just I want to make more money. I want to help the poor or I want to memorize the Quran, you have to dig deep inside yourself to figure out why you want to do it. For example, I would like to memorize the Quran inshallah God willing, because I want to be able to recite no matter where I am. I want to feel like I've achieved the most important goal in my life. Because I have the book of God memorized. I'm hoping that you're getting a better picture of what it means to dig deep down inside yourself. You have to make sure that your way of eating has to be helpful to you losing weight, you have to change the way you're doing things from before if you want to see different results. Three, most importantly write your goals down. Write it where you can read it everywhere. Post it on
frigerator the walls everywhere. This will help remind you the importance of it and hopefully motivate you to continue.
