Zakaullah Saleem – 62 Riyad asSalihin
AI: Summary ©
The length of judgement is estimated to be over 1,000 years, but individual actions and the number of people waiting for the day are interrelated factors. There will be multiple interrelated sessions, including a major thirtieth of the year, a minor thirtieth, and a minor thirtieth. The message is designed to prevent future mistakes and avoid consequences, and is not only for individuals, but for everyone. Finding forgiveness is crucial to avoid future mistakes and risk consequences.
AI: Summary ©
It's a long hadith
that Imam An Nawawi has
quoted under the chapter of
The commandment
and the order of Allah, Dhul Jahlal ukram
and the Prophet
with regards to
paying the amana
and discharging the duties and the trust.
And this hadith is rated by Sayyidina Hudayfa
ibnul Yaman
a a companion of the Prophet
who was known as
someone
who
had the secrets
of Rasulullah
And this hadith is also narrated by Sayyiduna
Abu Huraira
radiAllahu ta'ala. Both companions
say that the messenger of Allah Alaihi Salatu
Wasallam said,
Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala will assemble, Allah Subhanahu
Wa Ta'ala will gather the people on the
day of judgement.
And the believers
will be standing still
until
the jannah
will be brought closer to them. As Allah
subhanahu
wa ta'ala says in the Quran,
And Jannah will be brought closer
to the believers,
to those who have the taqwa and it
will not be far from the eyes.
As the hadith is long, as we go
through the hadith, we'll be taking
some lessons from the hadith or highlighting some
of the lesson that we can take from
this particular
hadith. First of all, Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam
said in this hadith,
Allah will gather all the people,
Muslims, non Muslims,
believers, disbelievers,
those who believed in Allah, those who did
not believe in the existence of Allah, all
of them they will be gathered.
That is
why one of the names of the day
of judgement is Yawmul Jam. As Allah says
in the Quran,
Allah will gather you all for the day
of gathering
and that is why that day is also
called Yawmul Jamah. So Allah will gather all
the people
and people will be
waiting for Allah
to begin the reckoning.
And at that point,
as the day will be long, it will
be long
as some of
the text of the Quran or the hadith
of Rasulullah salallahu alaihi wa sallam says that
that will be
1,000 years long day. One single day will
be as long as 1000 years.
But the other
ayat of the Quran, or the ayah of
the Quran says,
That it will be 50,000
years long day.
And the scholars and the Mufasiroon have said
that this, the length of the day will
be according
to the deeds of individuals.
Those who
committed sins, those who disobeyed Allah, those who
disbelieved in Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala,
for them that day will be longer.
Longer in the sense
that they will be grieving more, they will
be worried more. That is why it will
seem to them that the day is very
very long. As for the believers, it may
be as 1000 years long.
So it will be a long day and
the people will be waiting
for Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala to begin the
reckoning.
And
for this, people will approach Sayyiduna Adam
And the hadith continues, you must have heard
this hadith many times. They will come to
Adam alayhi salaam, Adam alayhi salaam will refuse
to intercede and people will
be approaching Adam alayhi salaatu wasalam requesting
him to request Allah
or to intercede before Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
on behalf, that Allah Guljalayhi rikram begins the
reckoning.
And then Adam alaihis salatu wasalam will refuse
and they will go Ibrahim alaihis salam, then
Musa alaihis salam,
then Nuhissalam, then eventually Rasulullah salallahu alaihi wasallam.
And the Prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam
will take the responsibility
of interceding on behalf of whole mankind,
whole mankind,
believers and disbelievers,
Muslims and non Muslims alike. Because
that type of intercession
will be not for
allowing people to enter into jannah, rather it
will be requesting Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala to
begin the reckoning.
And that type of intercession is called a
Shafa'a
al Kubra,
the major intercession.
And this intercession will be allowed to only
1 individual which is none other than our
beloved Nabi, sallallahu alaihi wa sallam, a shafa'atul
kubra.
And
there will be other types of intercessions as
well.
That are all the other all the rest
of the types of inter sessions that are
known as Shafa'at Surah, minor intercession. And
the principle
of Ahlus Sunnah wal Jama'a or the belief
of Ahlus Sunnah wal Jama'a with regards to
the intercession is
that no one will be allowed to intercede
on behalf of anyone before Allah ul Jalalikram
without his permission.
And this is what we repeatedly say in
Ayatul Kursi.
Who is there to intercede before Allah
without his permission?
Allah says in the Quran about the angels.
Those who do not disobey Allah
Rather
they do whatever they are commanded by Allah
to do. Allah says about them
Even the angels who never disobeyed Allah, they
will not have the courage to intercede on
behalf of anyone
except by the permission of Allah
And those who will be given permission to
intercede on behalf of others,
Again, their intersession will not be an open
intersession.
Rather, Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala will allow them
to intercede on behalf
of on behalf of limited number of people,
on behalf
of restricted number of people.
And Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala will also allow
them to intercede on behalf of those
who never committed shirk with Allah
Because Allah says in the Quran,
Where Allah
will never forgive
those who committed shirk with Allah
and they died on shirk.
It does not mean that anyone who committed
shirk, his sins will not be forgiven during
their life. If someone repents
and they give up committing shirk with Allah
they repent to Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala, Allah
accepts their tawba. But those who committed shirk
and they died on shirk and they never
asked
Allah for his repentance,
then Allah says,
with Allah,
Allah has made paradise
and Jannah haram for them.
It will be impossible for them to enter
into Jannah, which means that they will remain
in the fire of * forever
and intercession
will not benefit
them. There is another type of people
which shows that according to the ayat of
the Quran,
that no one will be allowed to intercede
on their behalf.
As Allah says
in Surah Al Mudassir,
When the believers will be allowed to enter
into Jannah, they will enter into Jannah and
they will
see around them and they will see that
some of their friends have not entered into
Jannah.
They will be asking one another about those
people who they would not see in Jannah.
And then they will they will ask each
other about, Allah says, anil mujrimil.
About those who committed sins.
And
Allah
will allow the people of Jannah to have
direct
direct conversation
with those who will be burning in the
fire of jahannam.
Anil Mujrimin, they will ask them.
What has led you into Sakar? Sakar is
one of the names of Jahannam.
What has led you in Jahannam?
They will say 1st and foremost, aloo lamna
kuminal musaleen.
They will say,
their first sin,
they will say,
we were not amongst those
who performed the salah.
Meaning we were amongst those who abandoned the
salah.
And they will make the mention of
other sins as well. And Allah says within
that,
passage of of Surah
Al Mudathir.
No intercession
of those who will be allowed to intercede
on the day of judgement will benefit them.
No intercession will benefit them.
So that is why this is one of
the evidences
of those scholars who hold the opinion that
the person who completely abandoned the salah
is out of the fold of Islam.
Because
those who committed major sins, major serious sins,
they will benefit
from the intercession
of the prophets, the angels, the believers
and the good deeds and there will be
different type of people who will be allowed
to intercede on behalf of others.
And this is also another
principle
of alusunna wal jama'u, the part of the
belief of alusunna wal jama'u with regards to
the matter of the intercession,
that intercession
will be done
on behalf of those who committed
major sins.
Those who committed major sins and they will
be burning in the fire. Allah subhanahu wa
ta'ala will allow
some people
such as the prophets,
and the pious, and and
they will intercede on behalf of them, and
because of their intercession Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
will allow them to come out of the
fire of Jahannam
and Allah will allow them to enter into
Jannah.
This will be for those who committed major
sins.
And though but those who abandoned the salah
completely,
they are they are not amongst those who
committed major sins rather
this jerim or this sin is even bigger
and greater.
This is such
a great sin that takes the person out
of hold of Islam.
And in reality,
the truth is,
that the vast majority of the Muslims, or
the Sahaba and the early Muslims, they were
of the opinion that the person who abandoned
the salah completely
is out of hold of Islam.
But majority of the scholars,
and the later generations, they held the opinion
that the person who abandoned the salah, yet
he believes in Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala, and
he believes in the Prophet he believes in
the Quran, person still remains within the fold
of Islam although he is committing a major
sin.
And those who held the first opinion,
this is one of the strongest evidences. As
Allah says in the Quran,
that those who will be burning in the
fire,
they will be asked about the reason
why they would be burning in the fire
and they will say
We were not amongst those who established the
salah. And then the following verse Allah says,
No intercession will benefit them.
So anyway, so this is a Shafa'at Surah,
a shafa'atul kubra. Shafa'atul kubra, the major intercession
is for the Prophet
only.
And we also believe
that the Prophet
will be blessed,
he will be blessed and he will be
honored
by the permission of interceding
or inter or doing the intercession
of the major intercession, as well
as minor intercession.
The Prophet
will hold
the
the shafa'atul kubra, the major intercession as well
as minor intercession.
So the prophet
will be interceding on on behalf
of those who committed major sins, and they
will be thrown in the fire, he
will be interceding on behalf of them.
Another type of people, the prophet will be
interceding on behalf.
They will be the people
of Jannah.
Those who are going to enter into Jannah,
but they will be waiting for the prophet
sallallahu alaihi wa sallam's intercession.
And they will enter into Jannah
after the Prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam have
interceded on their behalf.
And this type of intercession is mentioned in
this particular hadith that is collected by imam
Muslim
And then even after that,
when people will enter into Jannah,
they will again benefit from the intercession of
Rasulullah
Those who are already in Jannah, they will
again
benefit from the intercession of Rasulullah
And that intercession will be for them requesting
Allah to raise their ranks within jannah.
So there will be number of intercessions
that Rasoolullah
will be allowed.
But our belief is that every single intercession
will be by the permission of Allah
No one will have the authority or even
courage
to intercede on behalf of anyone without the
permission of Allah
including Rasulullah sallallahu alaihi wa sallam. So
that minor intercession that will be on behalf
of the believers, all the believers,
requesting Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala to allow them
enter into Jannah,
that is, that type of intercession is mentioned
in this particular hadith.
So Rasulullah salallahu alaihi wa sallam say that
Allah
Allah will gather all the people.
And the believers,
they will be
standing still until Jannah will be brought closer
to them.
Meaning, that they will know that Allah subhanahu
wa ta'ala is pleased with them and they
will be allowed to enter into Jannah.
But before they enter into Jannah, they will
have to cross the bridge.
They will have to cross the bridge as
Allah says in the Quran.
That bridge will be placed on,
on top of jahannam,
on top of jahannam.
And Allah says,
there's none amongst you except that he'll have
to cross that bridge.
Even the prophets and messengers, they will have
to cross that bridge.
So,
before they enter into Jannah, they will have
to cross that bridge.
And at that point,
before they cross the bridge, Rasulullah sallallahu alaihi
wa sallam says, the believers will be waiting
again.
After reckoning,
after
passing all the test, now they will be
waiting for Allah
to allow them
to cross the bridge and then to enter
into Jannah.
They will be waiting.
And that point,
they will come to Adam alaihis salatu wa
salam. It seems that it will be second
occasion.
And the first occasion, the whole mankind will
approach Adam alaihis salatu
requesting him to intercede on their behalf,
request Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
to begin the reckoning. And this is the
second point.
Second incidents where they will approach Adam alayhis
salatu wa salam and they will say,
O our father,
seek Allah's Allah's
permission
to open Jannah for us.
Adam alaihis salatu wa sallam will reply, he
will say,
Nothing has led you out of Jannah except
the sin of your father.
The mistake of your father.
And he will remember his mistake. When Allah
subhanahu wa ta'ala
created
Adam He allowed him to stay in Jannah
and he
said You and your wife, you stay in
jannah, but don't go closer to that particular
tree.
Don't eat from that tree.
But they were
misled by shaitan
as Allah says
and they disobeyed Allah
And because of that Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
said,
Both of you. Adam and Hawa, both of
you, you have to leave Jannah now. So
Adam alaihis salatu wasalam will remember, he will
say,
nothing has
led you out of Jannah except the mistake
of your father.
So today I can't ask Allah subhanahu wa
ta'ala to open Jannah for you. Lest to
be sahabidalik,
I'm not for this
responsibility, I can't take I can't take this
responsibility,
and I can't take upon myself to request
Allah to
open Jannah for you, but I can guide
you, I can advise you.
But I advise you to go to my
beloved son, Khaleelah Ibrahim Khaleelah alaihis salatu wa
sallam. They will come to Ibrahim alaihis salam.
And Ibrahim alaihis salam he will reply, he
will say,
I'm not for this, I can't take this
responsibility,
although I was the kaleel of Allah, I
was the most beloved friend of Allah, rajallalikam.
But I was the friend of Allah subhanahu
wa ta'ala
but not of that level,
but not even to that level, so that
I could intercede on your behalf.
Then they will come to Musa alaihis salatu
wa sallam.
Ibrahim Khalil alaihis salatu salam will advise them
to go to Musa alaihis salam. And he'll
say, go to Musa alaihis
salam,
go to Musa alaihis salam
with whom Allah
subhanahu wa ta'ala
spoke, or Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala talked to
him directly.
So go to Musa alayhi salaam.
They will come to Musa alayhi salaam, Musa
alayhi salaam will also refuse and he will
say, let's do be, let's do be sahibialik.
I'm not of that level to intercede on
your behalf.
Go to Isa
the speech of Allah and the spirit of
Allah
go to him and ask him and request
him to intercede on on your behalf. They
will come to Isa alaihis salam and he
will also say,
I'm not of that level
to ask Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala o to
intercede
on your
behalf, then they will come to our Nabi
The context of the hadith
indicates that these believers
will be including the believers of this ummah
as well as the believers
of the previous ummah.
And this is based on the evidence that
we find in the other ahadith of Rasulullah
Because the prophet
said, the very first ummah that will enter
into Jannah will be the ummah of Muhammadur
Rasulullah
And these people will be asking
the Prophet,
Adam alaihi wa sallam, Ibrahim alaihi wa sallam,
Musa
alaihi salallam to request Allah
to open the doors of jannah for them.
And if you include all the believers,
all the believers, the believers of this ummah,
and the believers of the previous ummah, then
they will approach eventually
our Nabi sallallahu alaihi wa sallam, fayakum
fayudhanullah.
Then the prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam will
stand up, and he will intercede on their
behalf for you,
and it will be and and the permission
will be granted to our Nabi
And as the other hadith says, that the
prophet
will knock the door of Jannah,
and the angels who will be guarding the
gates of Jannah, they will say,
Who is there on the door?
The Prophet
will say, Anna Muhammad.
I'm Muhammad who's knocking the door of Jannah.
Then the angels will open the door saying
that, yes,
you are the one about whom Allah subhanahu
wa ta'ala has instructed us not to open
the doors of Jannah except for you.
Then the then the doors of Jannah will
be open. And he but before that, as
we said, before the people are allowed to
enter into Jannah, they will have to cross
the bridge. So that after the prophet
has
interceding on their behalf,
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala will allow the prophet
to knock the door of Jannah and the
door of Jannah will be open and now
people will try to rush to enter into
Jannah.
But before that they will have to cross
the bridge.
And then Rasulullah salallahu alayhi wasalam says,
Now at that point,
the trust
and rahim,
and the ties of relationship,
both of them they will be sent
and they will stand on both side, on
both sides of that bridge.
This hadith is a shorter version, the longer
version of the hadith says, that anyone
who had any kind of deficiency
in fulfilling the trust
or keeping the ties of the relationship.
They will be caught and the trust and
the ties of relationship.
They will be claiming
against them and they will be caught there,
and they will be withheld
there, and they will be held there, and
then they will be questioned.
They will be questioned about
their ties of relationship,
and they will be questioned about their trust,
which means that they will be delayed
further
from the entry into Jannah.
And this is the reason that Imam An
Nawawi
has quoted this hadith in this chapter.
The commandment of
discharging your duties and paying the trust.
So Rasulullah
says,
then,
Then the first of you, the first of
the believers,
he will pass, he will try to cross
the bridge
as quick and fast
as lightning.
Abu Hurair radiAllahu ta'ala who says, I said,
Umassaneer of Allah, can you please explain what
do you mean by
as fast and quick
as the lighting?
The Prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam said,
Have you never, have you not seen
the lightning, how it goes and comes back
quickly,
as quick as the twinkling or the blinking
of the eye.
That quick.
So the 1st batch or first group of
people
will cross their bridge as quick as lightning.
Meaning they will feel
no heat,
no problem, no issue at all while crossing
the bridge.
Then the second group of people will cross
their bridge as quick as the wind.
Then the 3rd group of people cross the
bridge as quick as the flying bird.
And then the next group of people will
cross the bridge as those who will be
running,
running fast.
And they will cross that bridge according
to the value and the quality of their
deeds.
And then the prophet alaihis salatu wa sallam
says,
While you believers
will be crossing that bridge,
your Nabi
will be standing
by that bridge,
and he will be constantly begging Allah,
O my Rabb, O my Lord, save my
people, save my ummah, save my ummah.
SubhanAllah, this is the mercy
of Rasulullah salallahu alaihi wa sallam
for his followers, for his ummah.
Even on that point, he'll be begging Allah,
Rabi salim,
Rabi salim, Oh my Lord,
save my people, save my Ummah.
While they are crossing the bridge, he will
be making Du'a for them.
The prophet
says, like this people will continue crossing the
bridge group by group
until
the group of people will come who will
have only few good deeds,
very few good deeds. And it will not
be sufficient for them to cross the bridge
and they
will
be trying to cross the bridge while crawling
while
crawling.
And on both sides of the bridge, there
will be
there will be hooks.
And
they will
catch
whoever they will be commanded to catch
by Allah
they will catch them and then they will
drag them into jannah.
Which shows
that the believers
who will eventually
enter to jannah,
some of them they will be thrown in
the fire.
They will be thrown in the fire because
of
their major sins,
and because of
some of their sins that they may
not have realized that they were committing major
sins but they were actually major sins.
As Allah says in the Quran,
Allah will gather people on that day, and
Allah will inform them about their deeds.
All the deeds that they have done in
this dunya, good deeds and bad deeds. And
many of those deeds,
they have forgotten,
but Allah never forgot them. Allah
never forgets.
So, as you will see on the day
of judgement,
in the scales of your deeds, some of
the good deeds
that you will not remember, you never remember
in this duniya, and you will not even
remember on that day, but then you will
see on the scale of your good deeds.
Likewise,
there will be some sins
that you commit in this duniya.
You thought there were minor sins, or you
never or you probably never even thought that
there were sins, But they will be placed
on the scale, on your scale, on the
day of judgement and then you will see
and you realize that they are there.
Okay? That is why it is important for
us to constantly ask Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
for his forgiveness.
And that is why Rasulullah
has taught us a beautiful duas,
when it comes to asking Allah's forgiveness,
asking Allah,
Allah
forgive all of my sins,
The sins that I have
committed in the far past and the near
past.
And the sins that I have committed in
my privacy and my secrecy,
and the, and also the sins that I
have committed in public.
And oh Allah forgive all my sins that
you know better than I know.
And the prophet
also
used to make dua himself
used to make those this
dua. Oh Allah forgive all of my sins.
The sins that I have committed intentionally.
The sins I have committed unintentionally.
The sins I have committed out of my
ignorance.
The sins that I have committed and then
I have forgotten. Wallah forgive all of them.
And this is the benefit of asking
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala for his forgiveness.
So when we are make dua to Allah
subhanahu wa ta'ala for his forgiveness, it's not
only for those sins that you remember,
rather
or probably most of the time is his
dua for those sins that you have committed
and you have forgotten.
But it has been written down for you.
But if you ask Allah's forgiveness, Allah subhanahu
wa ta'ala will forgive in this duniya,
and they will be wiped out in this
duniya. So that on the day of judgment,
you will not see those sins in your
scale.
That is why Rasulullah sallallahu alaihi wa sallam
says, that the people will try to cross
the bridge, and some of them while crawling,
some of them
will manage to cross.
And he says,
Some of them they will have scratches
on their body,
but they will escape, they will cross the
bridge.
And
the mercy of Allah
will be showered on them and
all of their completely their body will be
completely cured before they enter into Jannah.
They will suffer from and this will be
a little punishment for them
in order to wipe out their sins, in
order to clean them or cleanse them before
they enter into Jannah.
But some others, Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam said,
some
of them they will be caught
by those hooks and they will be thrown
into the fire
underneath that bridge.
Then say, you don't Abu Hurair
after rating this hadith
says, by the one in whose hand is
the soul of Abu Huraira,
in nakaara jahannam, The
pit of jahannam
is
70
years
in-depth.
Meaning is as deep as
70 years travel,
That is the depth of Jahannam.
And Abu Huraira radiAllahu ta'ala, although this is
a statement of Abu Huraira,
but it is known as marfu hukman.
Marfu hukman, this is a terminology amongst the
muhaddithi.
Means that if a companion
says something
that is to do with the knowledge of
the unseen,
then it will be considered
that it is this is the statement of
Rasulullah sallallahu alaihi wa sallam.
Although the companion never mentioned the name of
Rasulullah sallallahu alaihi wa sallam, But because Abu
Huraira
the company of the prophet
has no authority to say anything about
Except that what he heard from Rasulullah
So
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala save us all from
the punishment of Jahannam. May Allah subhanahu wa
ta'ala
allow us to benefit from the intercession of
Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi
Wasallam on the day of judgement. There are
many ways of
of being legible for the intercession of Rasulullah
Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam and one of the easiest
way is not to forget the du'a after
azaan.
As Rasulullah sallallahu alaihi wasallam says, whoever
repeats the
whoever repeats the words of the adhan along
with Mu'adhin,
and then after the Mu'adhin had completed the
adhan,
he sends salutations upon me saying, Allahumma salli
aala Muhammad.
Then he reads the following dua, Rasulullah sallallahu
sallallahu sallallahu
Such person
will be entitled to benefit from my intercession
on the day of judgement. And the dua
is Allah
May Allah
give us and ability
to
remember this dua and to repeat this dua
after,
whenever
we hear, we send salutation upon
and then say this and say this to
us. May Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
allow us all to enter into Jannah without
any punishment,
without reckoning, without any,
any any.
May Allah
save us all from the punishment of Jahannam.
May
Allah forgive all of our sins
while we are in this dunya before we
die in
