My
parable
and your parable
is like
a man,
a person,
a who
kindled a fire,
and then the moths
and grasshoppers
started falling into the fire.
While the person who has kindled the fire,
he is trying his best to push them
away from the fire,
but
they overcome
him and they
continue falling into the fire.
And then He salallahu alayhi wa sallam says,
and
this is my
example or my parable with you
that I'm trying to hold you from your
waist
and from your waist,
I'm trying to
hold you from your waist ties
to keep you away from the fire
while
you continue
slipping from my hands.
And this hadith is corrected by Imam Muslim
This hadith the Prophet has
given
this misal and this parable
that He
always advises
Ummah
to do
the good deeds that can keep them away
from the fire.
And he
continued
advising
his ummah and his companions first and foremost,
and then enlarge his ummah
to do
different kind of good deeds that can keep
them away from the fire.
And he salallahu
alaihi wasallam
advised the ummah
not to oppose him, not to oppose Allah's
commandment.
But He Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam says,
Although I am trying my best to hold
you from your waist ties,
to keep you away from the fire, but
you
still continue
pushing yourself into the fire.
You try to slip from my hands and
you try to fall into the fire.
This is the situation of the Umma and
this is what Rasulullah sallallahu alaihi wa sallam
said to his companions, Iduanullahi
alayhimajma'een.
And obviously now,
over 1400
years after the death of
Rasulullah we see the situation of the umma
of the Prophet
The umma
that was
given
the best status by Allah
highest status by Allah
May Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala said in the
Quran, You, the Muslims, the believers, the followers
of
Muhammadu Rasulullah
you are the best of the nations.
But, if you look at the situation of
the
on individual level and the umma level,
we find that
most of us, most of the
followers of Rasulullah
they are trying
to turn away from the sunnah of Rasulullah
The Prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam advised us
not to do certain things that are not
permissible,
that are haram,
O highly disliked, but we continue doing this.
We continue opposing the sunnah and the commandment
of Rasulullah sallallahu alaihi wasall.
It is similar to what we mentioned last
week, the hadith of the Prophet in
which he said,
All of my Ummah will enter in Jannah,
except those who refuse to enter the Jannah.
The companions said,
Who can refuse from your ummah, O Messenger
of Allah, to enter into jannah? The Prophet
said,
Whoever obeys me, he will enter Jannah. And
whoever
intentionally
disobeys Me and opposes Me, He is the
one who has actually himself and herself refused
to enter jannah.
So,
the point and the reason that Imam An
Nawawi rahamahullah has quoted this Hadith in this
chapter is,
that as a believer,
as a follower of
Muhammadur Rasulullah
we must try our best not to oppose
the sunnah of the Prophet
intentionally or unintentionally.
And try our best
to act upon the sunnah of the Prophet
and follow his footsteps,
in order to show our love for the
Prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam and in order to
prove
that we are true Muslim and true believers,
and we love the sunnah of the Prophet
sallallahu alaihi wasallam.
Next hadith is also
rated by Sayyidun Ajabi
ta'ala and who says, Anarasulallahu
alaihi wasallam amarabilahtil
Asabir
was Saifa.
The Messenger of Allah
has ordered,
has ordered
licking the fingers
as well as the pot and the plate
in which you have your meal,
after you have finished it. Wakal
and
he
said, Verily you do not know which portion
of the food Allah
has
blessed the barakahin.
So, the wording in this hadith, in the
statement of Jabir radiAllahu ta'ala is, Ammar alasurullah.
The Prophet
has commanded,
he has ordered
to lick the fingers.
Although the scholars according to the fiqh ruling
or the principles of the fiqh, or according
to the sciences of fiqh, the scholars have
said this is, the order that
is not
a compulsion, it is not a compulsory order,
rather it is highly recommended.
But,
as a believer, as a follower of Rasulullah
we need to ask ourselves, we need to
ask this question to ourselves,
How many times actually we try to act
upon this commandment of Rasool Allah Sallallahu Alaihi
Wasallam?
Whenever you finish the food,
is it not true
that we probably
feel embarrassed
if we were to lick our fingers
after completing the food, after finishing the food.
When the commandment and the order of Rasulullah
is to lick your finger.
And he
said,
You do not know in what portion or
in what particle Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala has
placed the barakah in your food.
This is a wisdom.
And unfortunately, nowadays even amongst the Muslim it
has become
habit
that if someone is given any food,
or someone, you know, even, you know, to
your guest, If you present them something, if
you give them something out of your hospitality,
they deliberately leave something in the pot.
Deliberately.
If they have drunk the water, they will
deliberately
leave something
in the glass,
in order to show that we are not
stingy.
What kind of mindset is this? The Prophet
sallallahu alaihi wa sallam has ordered us to
finish the food,
to the extent that He alaihi wasallam
has instructed and he has ordered us to
lick the fingers.
When it comes to the plates, the plate
in which you eat,
how many times, every one of us, every
one of us we need to pay attention
to this.
How many
times we actually
leave the food within the plate, with the
plate, and it goes into the waste?
Do we not know that every single grain
of the rice,
is a niyama from Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.
It's a niyama from Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.
And we always
try to raise funds and give in charity
for those who are less fortunate.
Those who do not have that food. Unfortunately
it becomes really,
you know, hurting when we see the very
same people,
who raise funds,
and who raise charity,
and encourage people to donate towards those poor
and
masekeen,
and fuqara,
those who do not have food,
but when they sit on the table to
have their meal,
they themselves
are the first one who waste the food.
They leave the food in the plate.
Rasulullah
Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam did not allow this.
And,
we don't know, perhaps this is probably Because
of this, we have
so many problems in our life, because we
sometime intentionally, sometime unintentionally,
we oppose the sunnah, and the commandment of
Rasulullah sallallahu alaihi wasallam.
In another narration, the Prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam
said, Sayyidina Jabi radhiallahu ta'ala said that the
Prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam said,
If
a morsel from the hand of one of
you falls on the floor,
what should he
do? He should pick it up,
remove the dirt and the dust,
and He should consume, He should eat it.
Not really, just simply
throw it away, because once has fallen on
the floor.
Unless,
there is kind of dirt or the dust
that you cannot clean, it's completely
different. But for example, if you are sitting
in your house,
in the kitchen,
and you know the floor is not that
dirty, it's not, you know, there is no
dust,
probably little bit.
If a, most of the food drops from
your hand,
the sunnah,
and the order, and the instruction, and the
commandment of Rasulullah
is that you pick it up,
clean it, remove the dust, and consume and
eat it,
and do not waste the food to that
extent.
Nowadays we find,
even non Muslim run a campaign
against wasting the food.
But as a Muslim,
we must be at the forefront
on this kind of campaign,
1st and foremost through our own actions.
Through our own actions.
When it comes to wasting food,
to that extent the Prophet
has prohibited.
And he did not allow to
waste even one single mousse,
one single bite.
You're not allow as a Muslim, as a
believer,
as someone who believes in Muhammadur Rasulullah sallallahu
alaihi wa sallam, someone who claims that he
loves Rasulullah sallallahu alaihi wa sallam. You are
not allowed.
The Prophet, your nabi did not allow you
to waste even one single bite of your
food. Go to the restaurants,
and the takeaways,
you see how much of food is wasted
by Muslims,
leave alone the non Muslims, by Muslims.
Those who have said, La ilaha illallah Muhammadu
Rasoolullah.
What about this kind of hadith of Rasulullah?
When and how
can we act upon this order and commandment
of Rasulullah sallallahu alaihi wa sallam.
And lets look at the next part of
the hadith. The Prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam
said,
he should eat
it, shaytan
and he should not leave it for shaytan.
Meaning, the food that goes into waste, you
deliberately
are giving to shaitaan.
You're giving their food to shaitaan,
meaning you're helping shaitaan.
And you are pleasing shaitan, not
Allah You are pleasing your enemy.
And the person should not
clean his hands
with a towel or with a handkerchief
until
he has licked his finger.
This is a sunnah, this is the commandment
of Rasulullah sallallahu alaihi wa sallam. And then
he said, fa inna hulayadri,
fiyaayataamihilbaraka
because the person does not know in which
portion of the food Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
has placed the baraka.
In another
version of this,
hadith
that is collected by my Muslim Muhammadullah. It
is said in the shaitan,
Where shaitan is always present,
whenever you do anything
shaitan is always present.
Even
when you have your meal, when you have
your food, shaitan is present.
And he's waiting for you to do something
that pleases him.
And this is one of the ways that
you please shaitan with, that you waste the
food and you please shaitan.
And you oppose the sunnah, the commandment of
Rasulullah sallallahu alaihi wasallam.
Next hadith is the hadith of Abdullah ibn
Abbas
radiAllahu ta'ala Anhuma who says,
salallahu
alayhi wasalam, the messenger of Allah alayhi wasalam
stood amongst us
in order to give us a reminder and
He alaihi salatu wasalam said,
O people,
soon you will be gathered
all together before Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala
in a state that you will be bare
footed, you will be naked and you will
be uncircumcised.
Kamabada'na
and then He alaihis salatu waslam recited this
part of the ayah in Surat Al Ambiya,
As we
initiated
your creation,
as we created you first time,
and when you were born,
you were born and you came into this
duniya bare footed, naked,
uncircumcised,
the same way we will reject you on
the day of
judgement. This
is the promise
that we have taken upon ourselves,
verily we shall do it.
This is what Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala said
in Suratul Anbiya. So, the Prophet
recited this ayah and then he said, Allah,
wa innaawwal
khalaikiyuksa
yaubal qiyamatiibraheem,
Very, the very first individual who will be
clothed on the day of judgement will be
on the day of resurrection
will be Sayyiduna Ibrahim Khalilullah
He will be provided clothing by Allah Subhanahu
wa ta'ala.
Alaihi Salaam
said on that day
a large group
of people from my Ummah will be brought
towards me
and they will be kept on my left
hand side.
And as soon I would see them, I
will see them on my left hand side,
I will say,
O my Lord,
these are my people.
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala will say,
O Muhammad sallallahu alaihi wasallam, You do not
know what these people
have in- had invented
after you left them in the duniya.
Invented their, The word in the hadith is
ahadath, muhhadath,
which is which refers to bid'ah, innovations.
You do not know what these people invented
in your religion after you left them.
And then, Rasulullah sallallahu
alaihi wa sallam says that, I will not
be able to help them or assist them
in any form or shape, apart from saying
the same statement as Sayyiduna
Isa alaihis salatu wasalam. When Allah subhanahu wa
ta'ala
will question him, Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala will
ask him
on the day of judgment,
antakultalinnasitakhiduniwummiyairahaileenindunillahwariza,
did you say
to your followers, to your people,
to take you and your mother as gods
and Allaah
besides Allah?
And the
will
say,
If I have said it, you know it,
you know better than me.
I never said to my followers and my
people to take me and my mother as
beside you, O Allah.
And then,
out of his mercy,
for his people, for his followers,
Isa
will say, in a very polite way,
O Allah, O my Lord, if you decide
to punish them
then at the end of the day, they
are your own slaves. They are your slaves.
You have created them.
So he will not directly
intercede on their behalf, he will not directly
ask Allah to forgive them, rather he will
say,
Wo Allah if you punish them, they are
your servants.
And if you forgive them then
you are, you are only you
are the Almighty
and all wise.
Rasoolullah
sallallahu alaihi wasallam says,
Then when I see these people who have
invented in my religion and they introduced it,
they introduced innovations,
I will,
I will not be able to help them
apart from saying to Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala,
the same way Sayyidun Naysa
will say,
Oh my lord, I was witness upon them
as long as I was amongst them. So
long as I was amongst them I was
witness on them.
When you took me up, or when you
allowed me to leave them,
meaning through wafat and through the mouth and
death,
O Allah You were all watching upon them,
And, O Allah, You are witness over everything.
And then,
all life you punish them then they are
your slaves,
your servants.
And if you forgive them then you are
Almighty, All Wise. So, Rasulullah salallahu alaihi wa
sallam says, When I will say this,
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala will reply and He
will say,
Verily these are the people
who continue turning
away, they they continue turning on their heels,
meaning
continue staying away from your sunnah, mundu farakhtahum,
since the day you left them.
And this is particularly with regards to those
people
who love the innovations
more than they love the sunnah of the
Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam.
And it is not surprising
to know
that, they are, who in fact, Allah it
is a reality
that vast majority of the Ummah has
fallen into the innovations.
And people love innovation more than they love
the sunnah of the Prophet Sallallahu alaihi wasallam.
And the punishment for them in this duniya
is, that those who love the innovations, Allah
subhanahu wa ta'ala take away the tawfeeq
from them to follow the sunnah.
And they reach the level
that when and if you advise them about
the sunnah, they hate the sunnah.
They hate the sunnah and they end up
hating
the people of the sunnah.
As soon as you mentioned before them, the
Hadith of the Prophet
they will be annoyed.
And they will get angry and upset.
They love
the innovations.
And this is what Abdullah ibn Mas'ud
used to say, that those
who start innovating
and doing the bida'a,
bida'at or buhddathat in the deen of Allah
subhanahu wa ta'ala.
Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala
takes away the Tawfiq from them to act
upon the Sunnah of Rasulullah Sallallahu
Alaihi Wasallam.
So, again the reason for quoting this hadith
in this chapter is that we must try
to follow the sunnah and the footsteps of
the Prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam and
must stay away from innovations.
Anything and everything
that is not proven from the sunnah
or the practice or the statement or the
actions of Rasulullah salallahu alaihi wasallam, we must
stay away from it. May Allah Subhanahu Wa
Ta'ala give us tawfiq and ability.
The next hadith is the hadith of Abu
Sa'id
sallallahu alaihi wasallam
anil khadf, the messenger of Allah alaihi wasallahu
wasallam
has prohibited
from flicking the pebbles
through or with your fingers.
You know, like just simply
playing with it. Even to that extent the
Prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam has prohibited.
And then he alaihis salatu explained, he said,
Why it is prohibited? Because,
Because,
by playing or flicking with the pebbles you
cannot,
you cannot
hunt anything, you cannot
kill the game animal.
And you cannot hurt the enemy
by doing this. Rather
It may hurt someone's eye.
And it may
break the tooth of someone. You flicking
the pebbles, just simply playing with it. And,
you will end up hurting something.
Or you end up hurting someone,
even
unintentionally.
So the Prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam prohibited
from this.
Another version of this
hadith collected
by my Muslim Raham O Allah in which
he says,
The narrator of this hadith,
Abdullah ibn Muqaffal.
One of his relatives,
he was at one occasion, playing with the
pebbles, and he was flicking the pebbles like
this.
And he said,
Stop. The Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam has prohibited
from doing this.
And he said,
and he quoted the hadith, but that individual,
that person, he continued, he continued playing with
it, he didn't pay attention to the hadith
of the Prophet
Abdullah ibn Ubugafar radhiallahu ta'ala anhu, he got
very upset and he said,
I have quoted the hadith. I told you
the hadith of the prophet sallallahu alaihi wa
sallam. That the Prophet
has prohibited from it.
And you still continue
playing with the pebbles, and flicking the pebbles.
And then he
said,
By Allah, I will never speak to you.
I will never speak with you, throughout my
life.
Because you are the one who intentionally is
opposing the sunnah and the hadith of Rasulullah
and you are simply ignoring the hadith of
the prophet
A similar
situation happened with
Abdullah ibn Umar radhiyallahu ta'ala Anhu
Anhuma, he
said to people,
The Prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam used to advise
his companions and he used to say,
Do not prevent, do not stop
the
she slaves of Allah
Meaning,
your women from attending the masajid.
Do not stop them from attending the masajid.
This is what Rasulullah
used to say to his companions.
The son of Abdullah ibn Umar
he
said,
By Allah,
we'll definitely stop them, we'll definitely prevent them.
Because,
the women of our time, are not same
as the women at the time of Rasulullah
This was his logic. This was his reason.
Because now,
the women are so free and they have
fallen to the fitna, and there is more
chance for them to fall into fitna
or to attack people for towards them. And
it can cause more and more fitna within
the society.
So,
because of this reason we will definitely
prevent them.
Abdullah ibn Umar Radiallahu Ta'ala Anhuma,
who was known
for his
extraordinary love for the Prophet sallallahu alaihi wa
sallam.
He got very upset
and he said,
I'm
telling you the hadith of the Prophet
that Rasulullah sallallahu alaihi wa sallam said, do
not prevent your women from attending the mas
hadid, and you are still saying, oh, we
by Allah we'll definitely prevent them and stop
them.
He reprimanded
him in a very harsh way,
yet to the extent that some of the
narrations have reported that he never spoke to
his son throughout his life.
You are the one who opposing the hadith
of Rasulullah sallallahu alaihi wa sallam.
So,
this this was a reaction of the companions
of Rasulullah sallallahu alaihi wasallam towards those who
intentionally opposed the hadith
and the Sunnah of the Prophet Sallallahu alaihi
wa sallam.
And unfortunately,
even in this age and time,
anyway we say, you know, We are so
modern and we are so open,
and we are open in every single thing,
but when it comes to this
matter,
how many massages even within the UK we
find
that have no facilities
whatsoever for women.
They do not allow
according to their fiqh. Again,
their logic is same as
the logic of the son of Abdullah ibn
Umar
Who said, We will prevent our women,
we do not want them to fall into
fitna.
We do not allow them to go out
of the house,
and to go to the Masjid.
They may fall into fitna. They may cause
problem and corruption within the society. So we
will not allow them. And this is the
logic behind of some
some fukaha.
Say, No. It is not permissible for women
to attend the Masjid. That is why,
even within the UK, we are not talking
about the back world countries,
even within the UK, the West.
When and where we allow women to drive,
we allow women to go, and drop off
the kids at school, and to collect the
kids from school, and do all the shopping
and everything.
But when it comes to the masaid and
the house of Allah,
no facilities whatsoever.
And I know some of the masaid even
within the UK, who do not even allow
women to attend salatul i'id. Not only once
a year. Not even once a year.
What about this hadith of Rasulullah
Do not prevent the,
do not prevent
the slaves of Allah, your women from attending
the mas hadith. The house of Allah Dhul
Chalaikha.
So, we as a followers, as the believers,
as the Muslims, we need to wake up
and act upon the sunnah of Rasulullah sallallahu
alaihi wa sallam.
Do not oppose something, do not,
impose something upon yourself that is not part
of the religion?
Why do you want to have this kind
of restriction
if Rasulullah sallallahu alaihi wa sallam has not
prohibited it from me? If the Prophet sallallahu
alaihi wa sallam has ordered you against it,
then why do you still continue
opposing the hadith of the Prophet sallallahu alaihi
wa sallam. May Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala give
us tawfiq and ability to rectify our mistakes
and our errors. And the last hadith of
this chapter
is the hadith of Abbas bin Rabi'a
radiAllahu ta'ala.
I saw Umar bin Khattab
He was kissing
the black stone
and he was
saying
He was kissing the black stone and while
he was kissing he said,
I know, by Allah I know that you
are a stone,
you are just a stone.
You cannot bring me any benefit, and you
cannot cause any harm to me.
Had I not seen the messenger of Allah
kissing you, I would have not kissed you.
He actually wanted to show the people around
him, that I'm doing this solely
because of the practice and the sunnah of
Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam.
Whether you understand the wisdom behind it, you
don't understand the wisdom behind it.
Because we do not know the wisdom behind
every single commandment within the deel of Allah
subhanahu wa ta'ala.
That is why Sayyiduna Ali radiAllahu ta'ala
Anhu used to say
that,
if the deel of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
would be completely based on your logic,
then when it comes to wiping over the
socks,
then the order should have been to
wipe underneath your feet because that is the
part that touches the floor and the ground,
not the upper part of your feet. But
when you
wipe over the over the socks,
you do not wipe underneath
the, you know, you do not wipe underneath
or the sole of your feet, rather you
wipe over. What is the wisdom?
We do not know.
We
obviously you can to certain extent within the
sharia rule. But, it does not mean that
if you do not understand, if you do
not find any logic and you simply
reject the Hadith of Rasulullah SAWSALAW, simply saying
that it does not make sense.
Your sense is not more important than the
sunnah of Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam. Whether it
makes sense to you or does not make
sense to you. You must follow the sunnah
and the hadith of Rasulullah salallahu alayhi wasallam.
May Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala give us tawfiq
and ability.
