Of the life of the
Prophet
And we said that the Prophet
started to plant
the seeds of Iman, the seeds of Islam
in multiple different places,
but specifically
the ones that he planted in Yathrib,
what is gonna become Madinah is now sprouting
and we're going to see all of that.
So last time we spoke that the prophet
during the season of Hajj, he would go
to the different tribes and he would give
them the dawah of Islam.
And the different tribes responded in different ways,
but majority of them basically said we're not
interested.
And then only one tribe
was interested
and that was
the Aus and the Khazraj tribe,
Basically, the people from Yathrib, the people from
Madinah.
So it's about 6 of them, and they
told the prophet that
we're interested.
Now we can't tell for sure, did they
accept Islam right away, right there and then?
Or they went to Madinah and then they
accepted Islam after that. But they did tell
the prophet
that we're interested and inshallah we're gonna come
back.
The next year they come back for Hajj,
and this is almost the 11th year now,
they come back with 12 people.
They come back with 12 people,
10 of them being from the Khazraj tribe
and 2 of them from the Aus tribe.
Last time we talked about how the Aus
and Khazraj were brothers,
and these are the 2 tribes that are
the main tribes in Madinah.
And, of course, they have enmity amongst themselves.
They have hatred.
They've been fighting for years, but now they're
hoping that with Islam, all that enmity and
everything will dissolve.
And so when they come to the Prophet
this time, they said that, oh prophet of
Allah, we're ready to accept Islam, 12 of
them.
And here they have a bay'ah, an allegiance
with the Prophet
And this allegiance is called bayatulnisah,
the allegiance of the women. And the reason
for that is because
it wasn't necessarily,
you know, we're going to realize later the
year after the prophet salallahu alaihi wasalam is
going to have an allegiance as well with
the rest of the group and we're going
to realize that over here the Prophet salallahu
alaihi wasallam is demanding what he would normally
demand of the women.
Do not steal.
Do not kill your children out of the
fear of hunger.
Do not lie, do not slander, do not
come up with false testimony.
Basic ideas like that. Nothing that has to
do with battle,
nothing that has to do with wars, anything
like that, none of that is over there.
So the prophet
does bay'a with these 12 guys.
These 12 guys are saying,
oh prophet of Allah,
we want you to send with us a
teacher to Madinah so that this way we
can spread the word of Islam and we
can actually tell other people about Islam as
well. And we can learn Islam too because,
you know, just coming for the season of
Hajj is not enough time for us to
know about Islam.
So over here, the prophet
sends a young man by the name of
Musa B ibn Umayr.
And today, we want to speak a little
bit about Musa B ibn Umayr because
he is someone that every single youth in
our community should look up to.
Unfortunately,
today we have this thing with our youth
that they'll be 18, they'll be 20, they'll
even be 25,
But they feel like they're still not mature
enough to take on responsibility.
They feel like they're still because in America,
most of the children, most of the kids
have this, you could say, entitled,
you know,
personality where they feel like everything should go
their way and they don't necessarily need to,
like, work hard or anything like that. And
so Mus'ab Ibn Umer radiAllahu anhu, especially for
the youngsters understand who he is.
Around the age of 16,
Musa'ib Nur radiAllahu anhu
went to Madinah or around that time, right
before that, around that time he accepted Islam
as well. Now look at who he is.
Musa ibn Umayr
comes from one of the wealthiest family in
Makkah.
He was so wealthy
that, you know, whatever he puts his hands
on, his parents would buy it for him.
His clothes
were such that whenever the
shipment of clothing would come, it would first
stop at his place so his parents could
pick out the best of the best for
him, and after that, it would go to
the market to be sold.
He would put on such cologne, such
that people say that a a week after
if if you pass by an alley a
week after Musa Ibn Umer
you would know that he passed by this
place because it would have such beautiful smell.
You would know that he passed by it.
Musa ibn Umar
had such, you know, luxury
that
he became the talk of the town.
Any gathering that would be there, everybody would
be talking about Musaab. Remember that Qurashi kid?
He got this, he got that. All of
these things. Allah has given him looks. Allah
has given him wealth. Allah has given him
status. He had just about anything
any kid can want in this life.
And now when Islam comes,
Musa ibn Umayr radiAllahu anhu is in a
very tough position.
And the position is that his parents don't
want him to accept Islam.
But Musa ibn Umayr radiAllahu anhu knew that
Islam is true.
So he goes to his parents and when
he announces or when his parents realize
that Musa ibn Umar radiAllahu one who is
accepting Islam,
they tied him up, they chained him up.
And they said they said that you're not
allowed to go anymore.
Musa who would free himself from that and
go and stay with the prophet
in conditions that his skin became so rough.
His skin became so rough that it was
comparable to the skin of a snake.
So going from this person living in luxury,
now going to this condition of, you know,
such difficult life that
when Musa
even when he passed away, he passed away
in
He passed away in When he passes away,
they did not have enough coffin to cover
his body.
And they told the prophet
oh prophet of Allah, when we cover his
face,
his feet show. And when we cover his
feet, his head show. What should we do?
The Prophet
advised to cover his upper body
and lower body, his legs, his feet, you
can cover that up with date palm trees.
A person who went from getting the best
garment
to having no coffin.
A person who went from having the best
cologne
to having
a skin as rough as that of a
snake.
This was the qurbani, this was the sacrifice
of the Sahaba.
At this age when he accepts Islam,
he learns Islam. The Prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam
when he has to send somebody to Madinah,
who does he send? Musa bibin Umar
Today, the millions of people who go to
Madinah, who's getting reward for all of that?
Musa bibin Umar.
The millions of people who have accepted Islam
have gone to Madinah, have worshiped in Madinah
from the time of the Prophet sallallahu alaihi
wa sallam all the way till today. Who
is getting their word of all of that?
Musa'bibin Umayr.
The why? Because the prophet tells us,
the one who shows the way towards good
is the one like who does it.
Who is the one who basically worked in
Madinah to such an extent
that when he goes,
immediately he calls starts to call people to
Islam,
call people to Islam.
And just guess within 1 year, guess how
many people accept Islam on his end. Just
remember, the prophet salallahu alaihi wasalam is working
for 10 years.
And how many people have accepted Islam in
in Makkah?
Maybe around a 100.
Musa bibun Umar radiAllahu anhu goes to Madinah.
And how many people accept Islam over there
in about 1 year?
2 to 300 people.
Again, this doesn't necessarily mean that the prophet
salallahu alaihi wa sallam's dawah wasn't effective in
Musa'bibin Umar radiAllahu anhu's was effective.
But it shows that when the prophet
was putting an effort,
it was taking place somewhere else.
The prophet
was going through the difficult stage,
and now the part is coming.
Now we're about to go to that part
when people are gonna start to accept and
accept and accept. And sooner or later, in
10 years, you're going to see that this
whole entire
peninsula Arab Peninsula is turning to Islam.
And so we see that when the prophet
sallallahu alaihi wa sallam sends Musa bi bin
Umer radiAllahu anhu,
after, like, a few after, like, a month,
they're, like, more than 40 people accept Islam.
The prophet salallahu alaihi wa sallam gives order
that you guys start your Jum'ah salah.
So the first Jum'ah salah to actually happen,
happen in
not in Makkah, in Madinah.
Not led by the prophet salallahu alaihi wa
sallam. Led by Mus'aabi bin Umayr.
Led by him. Today, these are people that
we need to look up to. Somebody who's
16 years old, 17 years old, 18 years
old,
this is him.
He passed away in the battle of Uhud,
which happened in the 3rd year of Hijri.
He was the carrier of the banner, liwa'u,
you know, hamilu lila'il Islam.
He was the carrier of the banner of
Islam.
The banner of Islam would be given to
a person
who would have the most passion, the most
strength for Islam to the point because when
the banner is up that means the whole
army is up. And Musa ibn Umar radiAllahu
anhu was given that responsibility and he's waving
that flag.
And he passed away during that time.
This young man
did not say that, okay, I have an
excuse.
Today, unfortunately, when it comes to our children,
when it comes to our youth, the first
thing is like, I'm too young, I'm too
busy, I have this, I have that. The
things that we're chasing,
the fame,
the money,
the talk of the town,
all of these things that we are facing,
Musa'a bi b'unumeru sacrificed
them. He had them all. He had them
all. And he said, You know what? I
don't need this. I want
Allah
I want the akhirah.
And today just reflect for a minute.
If Musa'ba bin Umer
continued with his condition
of being in a luxury life,
of getting whatever he want, of being the
talk of the town,
he continued like that and lived all of
his life in luxury and comfort. Do you
think today we would be talking about him?
We would not be talking about
him. But because he sacrificed
and because he put forward something,
that's why
we are talking about him today. So we
have to ask ourselves the question as well.
We are living in comfort. We are living
in luxury. What are we striving for? What
are we aiming for? Tomorrow, are we going
to be remembered? And if we are, what
are we going to be remembered for?
So all of these when Musa ibn Umayr
radiAllahu anhu goes to Madinah, some of the
people that accept Islam on his hands.
Some of the people that accept Islam on
his hands are such luminaries of Islam
that subhanallah you would be shocked. When he
goes, he's hosted by Asad ibn Zurara radiAllahu
anhu.
He's hosted by Asad ibn Zura radiAllahu anhu,
and he starts to call people to Islam
slowly slowly.
As we have discussed,
that due to the Harbul Bu'as,
majority of the leaders of the Aus and
the Khazraj has passed away.
And now the younger generation have taken over.
Usayid ibn Hudayr, he's one of the companions
who is now the leader.
Saad ibn Mu'adh, he's one of the leaders.
When these leaders hear that there's a young
man from, yes, a young man from Mecca
who has come, and he's preaching Islam and
he's diverting people away from their religion to
some other religion, they got very frustrated.
One day, Sa'd ibn Mu'adh
and Usayd ibn Khadair
they're both talking to each other and they
said, man, there's this guy here from Makkah,
and he's here for no good because he's
coming and preaching and people are following him
and I don't know what he's up to,
but we gotta go and stop him. So,
Sa'd ibn Mu'adir is the one who's like,
listen. He's with and
I don't wanna have beef with him, so
you go and talk to him. Right? So
Usayd ibn Hodeir goes and he sees them
too,
and
was Asa'ad tells Musa'ad,
hey, listen.
This guy who's coming, Usayd ibn Khudayr, he's
one of the leaders of,
you know, the the the people of Madinah,
so give him dawah.
So he said, okay.
Now Usayd ibn Khudayr goes goes with the
intention to stop him. Tell him, listen.
We've been hearing that you're here and you're
trying to convert people, and this is not
good. It's not gonna fly here. And so
Asad is like, why don't you just listen
to him for a few minutes?
If you like the message, great. And if
you don't like it, it's fine. Whatever you
say will do. He's like, okay.
Is that that's pretty fair. So what does
he do? He starts to recite Quran. Musa
starts to recite Quran.
Saydib Khudair is now shocked.
He's like, wow.
This is what you're preaching?
And now Islam enters into his heart. And
he says, listen,
there's another
person. You guys should speak to him as
well. He's like who? He's like
So then he Hussein goes to
and he's like, listen, I spoke to them
and all that, but, man, I think you
need to go speak to them. Now he
himself
has already Islam has entered into his heart,
but he wants him to hear the Quran
because he wants him to accept Islam. So
he's like, alright.
What can we do? So he goes and
he's like, hey, listen.
Just go and listen to them. So Sa'd
ibn Mu'ad Radiallahu anhu when he listens, he's
like, wow. This is very beautiful.
And he accepts Islam as well. And both
of them now, the leaders accept Islam.
And slowly slowly with this, more and more
people starts to accept Islam.
Now you see,
subhanallah, you know who Sadhb al Muadh radiAllahu
anhu goes on to become?
Sadhb al Muadh radiAllahu anhu goes on to
become such a great companion.
That when he passed away
when he passed away, the prophet said,
That
the Arash of Allah, the throne of Allah
shook.
The throne of Allah
shook
when Sadab al Mu'adh radiAllahu one who passed
away.
Why? Because all of the angels from there
gushed forth
coming to see who's gonna take the soul
of Sadab al Mu'adh
back to Allah
That's the you know, this great personality
of Islam
who under whose book does his hisab go
under?
Under Musa B ibn Umayr
And so these are the people that he
worked on. These are the people who accepted
Islam on the hands of Musaab radiAllahu an.
The next year,
remember the 1st year they had 12 people.
Now from 12 people,
the next year a delegation of almost about
75 people
go on to do bay'atuh with the prophet
salallahu alaihi wa sallam to pledge allegiance with
him and announce their Islam.
Now,
as we know, what used to happen is
people used to go for Hajj.
And so a big delegation was going from
Yathrib.
And amongst this Yathrib,
this this delegation,
there were 75 of them that were Muslims
but they did not show that they were
Muslims.
They were undercover Muslims.
Why? Because they knew that if we show
that we're Muslims,
our own people might plan against us, and
definitely the Quraysh will definitely plan against us
as well.
So they all go to
Makkah.
And now they set a time with the
prophet
in the middle of the night.
They said that in the middle of the
night, we're going to meet at this hill
in Aqaba,
at this time.
And now when everybody have their camps, just
like Mina camps, everybody has their camps, everybody's
knocked out. In the middle of the night,
these 75
people,
they get up and they say that, okay,
Now it's time for us in the middle
of the night to go and meet the
Prophet
They go and they meet the Prophet
and over here, there's a very serious conversation
between the Prophet
and this delegation from Madinah.
Between
these
75, this delegation, and between the uncle of
the Prophet,
Abbas.
They come to the prophet salallahu alaihi wa
sallam, they meet up, and they say, hey,
listen.
Are you guys really ready for this responsibility?
Because Abbas radiallahu
did not feel comfortable.
He said, look, we are protecting him. The
Banu Hashim.
Now remember, Abbas radiallahu anhu is not Muslim
yet.
He's not Muslim yet, but he has that
love and concern for his nephew. So he
said, guys, listen. The prophet salallahu alaihi wasalam,
he's from Banu Hashim. We're protecting him. Nobody's
able to harm him, but you guys are
coming
and trying to take him to your town.
Will you guys actually take care of him?
Will you guys actually protect him? Will you
guys protect him like you guys protect your
children and your wives?
And at this, one of the companions, Al
Baray bin Ma'arud, he jumps and he's like,
we are the people whom have mastered
the art of war, and we will protect
the prophet
with whatever we can.
And they go on with the conversations
to see if they're really ready or not.
And then another Sahabi
from the Ansar,
Abu Haytham at Tahiyal,
he, ibn Tahiyal, he basically says to the
prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam, o prophet of Allah,
we are ready to host, but I want
to let you know that back in Madinah,
in Yathrib, we have alliances, we have ties,
we have relationship
with certain people, with the Jews.
And if we basically
host you and develop a connection with you,
then we're gonna severe our ties with them.
And we don't want it to be that
tomorrow,
Allah
gives you strength and power and then you
leave us and you come over here.
Because then we're not gonna have that that
alliance, those ties, and we're not you're gonna
be over here. So what are we gonna
do? The prophet said
That from there from now on, it will
be my blood is your blood, your blood
is my blood. Your destruction is my destruction,
my destruction is your destruction. We are basically
1 now.
Our growth is one growth.
Our decline is one decline.
And so he tells them that. Then Asad
ibn Zurara once again, he wants to get
the emphasis. He wants to get the confirmation
from the people. He's like, listen people,
let's just be real over here.
The responsibility
you're taking,
you're basically saying that you're willing to put
your family,
your wives, your children,
and every single person on the line for
this man.
Are you guys actually ready
to put your whole entire family on the
line for this man to protect him?
And at this point, they all fought and
they're like, yes, we're ready to protect him.
And when they're ready when they were ready
to protect him, that's when the prophet salallahu
alaihi wa sallam, he did bay'a with them.
And this is called the bay'atul aqaba athaniyah,
the second bay'a. And in this bay'ah,
whatever was included in the first one, you're
going to believe in Allah, you're not gonna
associate any partners, you're not gonna lie, cheat,
or steal, not gonna kill your children. But
now
what's included in this is that you're gonna
protect the prophet salallahu alaihi wa sallam like
you protect your children.
You're gonna make Islam
the deen. You're gonna give Islam the house
that it needs.
And all of these different things were put
condition,
and all of them agreed. And from this
point, the prophet said
that you guys
select
a few delegates from you guys.
Select senators. Select representatives
because it's not gonna be doable to talk
to 80, 90 people, but
specify from
each group that he will be representing him
and he will represent this group and all
of that. And from this, the delegations were
made. And from there onwards,
the this tribe goes. And subhanallah,
they say shaitan has gone
and he has
announced within the Quraysh that, oh, Quraysh,
your people the people of Yathrib, the people
of Madinah had gone to go make a
treaty with Mohammed,
have gone to make a treaty with Mohammed.
Go check.
But at this time, the people have already
gone and they're sleeping. And so when the
Quraysh goes back to the people of Yathrib,
remember,
they're not just going to the Muslims. The
people of Yathrib had a whole bunch of
non Muslims coming for Hajj as well.
And so when they go to them, they're
like, hey. You guys went to do a
treaty with Mohammed? He's like, no. We've been
here. We've been sleeping.
So they had no idea about what just
happened at nighttime.
And so they have no idea, and then
at this point,
the next day they find out, but by
the time they find out, most of the
delegation has gone back to Madinah.
And at this point, when the prophet sallallahu
alaihi wasallam, when he finds out that now
the people of Madinah are ready to host,
they're ready to host Islam, the prophet sallallahu
alaihi wa sallam gives permission to people to
start to go.
And slowly slowly the migration will start.
And insha'Allah next week we will pick up
from here, we will see how Umar
migrated, how the prophet migrated,
and how slowly slowly migration started. What do
we learn from the migration of the prophet
Just from the Hijra itself, there are so
many lessons that we can learn. So we
ask Allah
to give us the ability to understand.
Also,
you we we had a very good attendance
for the Sira Halaka, and then unfortunately
another simultaneous program started, the Arabic program.
So we lost almost half of the crew
to that, another half to the karate. So
I encourage everybody to insha'Allah try to encourage
some of your friends and your families to
come because insha Allah, if they're inspired, if
they learn about the life of the Prophet,
if they get connected to the Prophet
insha Allah, just like Musa Biblu Umayr
today is getting the reward of all that
has happened in Madinah,
Inshallah, you will be getting the reward of
all that will be happening in this person's
life, in his family's life, and sometimes we
don't know. We don't know who we'll speak
to, what this person will do. They might
go much further than us. Right? But try
our best to inshaAllah, encourage as many people
as we can, and hopefully with this inshaAllah,
Allah
He guides whoever He wills, so through this
inshaAllah, Allah
may help some people.
