We're finally here with an edu Academy. Hi, Judy, some 40 Plus
sessions.
As we've seen,
the sheer commercial law he
had a lot of in a lot of aspiration and a lot of concern
for his students. And he reminded them as we saw on several
occasions, that he doesn't need anything from them. It's not in it
for them or for himself, but he's in it just to
please Allah subhanaw taala intended to leave that Baghdad and
he was outside of the walls of the city when an inner voice told him
that is Salah Amma is safety and salvation of his team was in being
with people and being with his students. And that's what he did
for 40 plus years.
Working long and now he is probably Shut up apology Lenny,
one of the most recognizable names of our OMA ever. He was Hassani

all of these people,
they have something of the if so many of the legacy

a result, they are remembered, and the words are remembered and the
words are recorded and the words are studied. And they still

So imaginisce, come soon. So the 50th, Moses was just a little bit
short. So I'm going to try to get to the one after 51 or two that
long, but I'm going to be a little more selective. Try to read things
or perhaps concepts that maybe we haven't seen before, even though
it's good, our teachers used to say or continue to say,
particular test what you know, in myeloma, by repetition, you know,
the thing that you're studying, becomes planted becomes firm, so
it's not really repetition. And anyone who's read the Quran,
Mahatma, or two, or three or four, how many will see that the
concepts are repeated, and even some of the stories in the Quran,
especially the anecdotes of some of the prophets, before I told in
different ways in different places, but for
different about right, different lessons that you may, you may get
out of it at each time. So this pothole up

we never have the whole Lhasa.
So let's look at that.
So he says in the beginning, you're still be a slacker or Salah
hacker. So concentrate on correcting yourself, which is not
an exact translation. So let it slough is to rectify yourself and
the Soloff is to be righteous to be upright. So
this law means to put yourself in a state of Soloff to put yourself
in a state of righteousness, so rectify itself, and correct
yourself. Give up idle gossip and the craziness of this world of
Plato and thought, Well, how was it dunya
rid yourself of its cares as far as you can. As the promise I sent
him you say, rid yourselves of the cares of this world as far
as you can. And we hear this a lot, not just from siddhappa,
father, Jude, anybody in general. And the idea is not to have the
loom
the
the concern, or your greatest concern the dunya so that it
occupies a big part of your heart keeps you busy from remembering
the last couple times. So how does one exactly go about that. So as
we've said a few times before, it's not just mere willpower, just
kind of will it out of your heart, but it's to develop and cultivate
within yourself, kind of spiritual repertoire of routines, and
focused
activities throughout your day and your night that's gonna help you
to get there. And that's why we talked about the importance of
having spiritual routines or a lot of a lot really means that which
you go back to regularly, so that you may be invigorated
spiritually, and we have a wealth of, you know, maybe two or three
meals a day. That's kind of a weird if we go back to eating food
because we need that to sustain our physical life. And similarly,
you need that to sustain your spiritual life. So that's why the
actual, you know, assess the with an SS is really the five prayers
because these are spaced throughout the day. And they're
supposed to give us that spiritual integration. But we also find the
province is suggesting other times, you know, he said, you
know, help yourself just to you know,
with the beginning of the day after treasure and aloha, which is
sometime in the evening with shaman
occasional or something of the night, use the Select times, to,
to, to build kind of a spiritual cultivation within yourself and so
you busy yourself with good and not busy yourself with bad luck.
Remember shuffling used to say,
he said I learned two things from the surface, these things have to
do with time. And
time is like a sore either you cut with it or cut you and your soul
your ego. If you don't keep it busy with good, then it will keep
you busy with that. So it's kind of like to
elevate the neffs or perhaps even from some way distracted F's, keep
it at bay in eschatological title to help you with that. So that you
can be
you can have more access to the better part of yourself, which is
your soul and your CF, or so forth, as a sheikh has talked
about before. So we're just also yourselves in the cares of this
world, as far as you can muscle talk, right? As much as you can.
Oh, you're so ignorant of this world, if you really knew it, you
would not go looking for it. If it comes towards you, it gives you
trouble. And if it turns away, it leaves you in distress. That's
true. Right? We're happy when it comes. And then when it leaves
something of the dunya, then we're in distress, why should we
surrender our happiness or outsource our happiness to such a
fickle master, which is the dunya. But if you surrender it to Allah
subhanaw taala, who has promised you that you will find happiness
with him, then it seems as a much better
endeavor to go forward with leaving it to the dunya
he says, if we really knew Allah, you will know all the rest through
him. But you are ignorant of him. His Messengers is also this
prophets, his MBA and his earlier. So if you know Allah, then you
really have the key to knowing everything. And if you don't know,
don't know a lot of Allah, then it's like you don't know anything.
You can know all the things in the world. But if you don't know a
lot, and you know, Allah is One, that He created you to me, or she
will be returning, and to him that you belong, then it's like you
don't know anything, because you don't know, the most fundamental,
important truth of your existence in my existence. And this all this
whole existence that it was created by law into a license.
Well, one, two, you can you not learn a lesson from those who have
gone before, and their experience of this world, you must seek
deliverance or loss from it, cast off its clothing and away from it,
cast off the clothing of the Lord self, the neffs, and travel
through the door to the door of the lord of truth and how when
you're divested of the lower self, you are tested of everything apart
from a lot, because that's what's keeping you away. This is what's
getting in the way is you your own wounds, your own existence, or
your own, being mired in the only the existence and the very narrow
minded,
short sighted realm of the neffs of the ego, which is just
concerned with pleasure. And you know, when it eats and drinks and
you know, who it's having relationships with, that's all
neffs and then your world becomes actually quite small, the world
looks very small, and your, your happiness then and your sadness
kind of hinges on a whim. You don't like
what somebody says to you, or what somebody doesn't say to you, or,
you know, who's paying attention to you who's not paying attention
to you, and to surrender your intellect not just your, your kind
of temporal, temporal happiness, like in this life, but also could
be happiness in the next to something so flimsy, and so
fickle. And something that will doesn't truly know who you are, it
only sees a certain side of you, right only sees the exterior
doesn't know what's actually going on within you. So why would I put
and leave all of that to something that is not trustworthy to begin
with. So cast off the neffs traveled through the door of the
hop when you're sick of it, then you're divested of everything
apart from the loss.
And so all those other things seem less important.
Since everything apart from him attaches to the law itself, you
got an equally massive a lot everything besides a law.
You must turn away from your own lower self, then you may see your
Lord at the top. That's why they use terms like infinit and Duffner
infc, Kota and dunya. The father will definitely call them as your
last project. So this finat
means to see everything as Fannie write Fannie means not there like
it's going to or it's headed towards non existence to
annihilation. This is what the finat means. And you know, the Chi
the simple principle that they say often is that which is certain to
come with the future. You have to feel stuck but often feel urgent
Hola Hola multilotto Fidel for one hop up
Phil edge. Phil hygena for now Hola. My afternoon
for an agent from hop, taco Phil and Phil hygiene, that will just
certain to come in the future exists right now in our in our
realm right now. So if all of these things are going towards
Finet and non existence and Allah kind of not kind of he tells us
this in the Quran or coolamon I have no way upon which we will
because the genetic code lumen Aneja Yanni on the earth,
everything upon it Fannin FeNi and, and that's an Arabic recall
that is some fad. So it's not indicative of something in the
future. It's informing of something that is a truth. That's
a certainty and reality right now as we speak. So everything is
funny, because that's where it's going. And that's where it came
from. So you're only looking at kind of a blip in time, between
the two non existences. So there's a little bit of existence between
two non existences. But if you look at the last month or so
there's no period of non existence, way up far. That's why
I said way up tall and remains Gutka Allah subhanaw taala, which
will have the confidence of God. In other words, the essence of
God, Allah itself remains.
So this Finet and in neffs means just kind of let it go.
Don't see it as the peak all on the end all and the,
you know, the pursuit of pleasures as being the
way to happiness, because even the pleasures once you get them,
they're also funny, right? And it's uncanny that even the most
pleasurable thing that you like, if you're really into chocolate
ice cream sundae.
And that's what you really want, and someone brings that to you and
you eat it. It's great, it's great, so forth, but then someone
brings you a second one, like, kind of a fool, and then a third
and a fourth and a fifth. And then you're forced to eat it now
becomes a punishment now becomes other. When just before you engage
in it, it was something pleasurable now all of a sudden
becomes something
torturous, or, and so that's the nature of the dunya. And it's
fernet. It can also, you know,
you know, it's prickly like thorns, it can prick you as well.
Just like the rosebush, right there's roses, but there's also
thorns in it. So you see the roses, but then if you rush in
quickly, you get pricked by the thorns. So, Allah subhanaw taala
saying, and the chef here again,
get over yourself, is the way to say it. Get over yourself, get
over your hangups in here, and what you think is going to make
you happy and surrender all of that to a lost battle that
since everything apart from him attaches to lower self, you must
turn away from your lower self. And then you may see your Lord,
right and the words now your self, your innermost being is allowed to
thrive, submit Selim to Him and you will be safe set limiter.
strive in his cars and you'll be guided Alright, give thanks to Him
and He will add more on to you submit you and creatures to Him,
submit yourself and creatures to him. Right look at the limit a lot
of autonomy at our level, he will take care of it. Do not resist him
whether on your own behalf, or on behalf of other people. The people
of Allah have no wishes no wish. Besides their wish were alone,
they have no preference besides their preference for him. They are
not greedy in pursuit of their own a lot of shares are Oxfam know
that they covered the shares allotted to others. If you wish to
enjoy the companionship of these people in this world and
hereafter, you must yield to him in compliance with his words, his
workings His Father and His will His era.
So if you want to have the proper also Safa, good companionship and
you want to find these people
have good companionship with Allah to begin with, right?
Follow his commands or
avoid his prohibitions, set a limit on
the kadai leave surrender things to him, try to be content
with that he has decreed for you for that he has one for you. And
then those things where you're innaka that which is going to be
an aid to you, it's going to help you in sha Allah will be
forthcoming after that.
So we're going to move on from there.
So page three or nine, because you're following at the top, said
if someone wishes to sit out along the path of the hot load of truth,
he must correct his own lower self before he embarks on the journey
itself as badly behaved, because he's always inciting
to evil amount of soup, what would you do in the presence of the
order food? How can you accompany you on your journey toward him,
you must struggle with it until it becomes tame. Then once it is
tamed, take it along with you to his door, you must not harmonize
with it before giving it training and instruction, teaching it to be
well behaved, and to have confidence in the Promise of Allah
subhanaw taala. And his threat is why it's so wide worldwide. It is
blind, dumb, deaf, confused, ignorant of its Lord, and an enemy
to him. But through unrelenting efforts, its eyes will be opened,
its tongue will be loosened, its ear will begin to hear and be rid
of its confusion, its ignorance and his hostility toward its Lord.
This calls for muscles and manpower, a bad word, when he said
it figuratively and metaphorically. And for
perseverance hour after hour, day after day, year after year, this
does not come about from the effort of just one hour, one month
or one year, you must beat it with the whip of hunger deprive it of
its luxury, and give it all that it really deserves.
So this differs from one person to the next and from one time to the
next. If we follow those as any model, for example, he sticks into
yet that you know, train your neffs and and have it used to only
have one meal a day. And then that let that one meal be a sip of
water and one course round loaf of bread one motif, which is a small
number, like that big
of bread. And if we were to tell people this today, I think they
would, you know, they wouldn't come back. So it depends upon, you
know, the time that you're living in and so forth. You know, we
would say just practice the Sona.
Food actually is step one action in terms of
taming the neffs Step two would be speech, if I had to choose one. So
in terms of food, it means just eat enough. So that you get up
before you are completely satiated. That would be step one.
So not not to deny yourself the things that you like. But, you
know, if you're used to just filling yourself and then getting
up, well eat till a period before satiation, you know, maybe like
two bites less to mouthfuls less than what you're used to. So you
get up before you're satiated. And you'll figure out that, you know,
in the beginning, it's not like it. But you know, after a while,
10 minutes later, when you get up and you start doing something
else, you don't feel like you need to go back to the dinner table and
get more it's like, okay, I got over that now I can, I can move
on, I can I can live with that. And this is what he's moved this
type of taming
of the neffs. And that's why the Milan ciem fasting is so Pinnacle
and so important in this because that's what it's supposed to do,
we're not supposed to substitute three square meals a day that we
had outside of Milan, in Milan during the night. And then we kind
of just flipped today in the night. So actually, you want to
grow accustomed to the feeling of hunger in your stomach. And it not
be such a disaster for you like on an NF Sandy level. You know, this
is how the taming of the neffs to some degree. And then speech also
like not to just say everything that we think that comes into our
head, but trying to our make our words more measured. And then as
we've said before, you know, have the speech passed through a few
gates before it comes out of the, you know, of its holding pen, as
it were so you know, as what you're going to say?
True.
Is it valuable to someone is it going to bring about a good result
or negative result
is gonna hurt somebody's feelings that are hurt somebody's feelings,
those things should be thought out. And in the beginning, there's
going to be a lot of to cover up.
That means you can struggle with it and be unsure of yourself. But
after a while, Inshallah, you will find that it will be almost like
second nature instinctual, that you think about those things
within, you know, a flash within our time usually takes people to
say something you'll be thinking about all those things, is it
true? Is it beneficial is going to bring some help to somebody who's
going to harm them, all the things will will run through your mind
almost instantly before you actually say and if you find
yourself in this account, and this is a great, great blessing from
the last month that it still feels, you know, it's real
successful.
And so, that means just kind of have a, you know, a methodical
approach to how we consume things and how we
put out things so the consumption the things that are coming in. So
obviously food
As part of it, but also all of our senses, that which we hear and we
listen to, and that which we look at, and see, these are all things
for consumption. And, you know, they get in there, they get in
your heart and they mix together and they can be a recipe for
raising, you know, your, the appetite of souls, appetite for
more things like it, you know, the very, very
dark and steep slope of * for many people, both
men and women, it's, it's a big test for them a big tragedy,
because it works like that. You get accustomed to something and
then it kind of takes you further and further down and down and down
until it takes you through very dark depths that you couldn't
imagine that you could find yourself in. But that's, that's
how the depraved neffs works. And a model is so right on, it's
always pointing towards suit towards evil. And so you want to
cut it off right at the, at the source. So not even to take in
something that let it penetrate, you keep the guards at the gates,
right. And the guard, here's your optic, right is your intellect,
that's wrong. And I know my nest is looking for it and wants to
look at that image, or look at that video or see what that's all
about. But your office's stop, hold on a second, slow down,
because if we let this guy in, if we let this Imogen, screwing mess
things up with us inside, so let's be more intelligent about it and
keep it out. This is the modality neffs, right. And, honestly,
everybody can do that you don't need a chef or teacher or mentor
to tell you that you know, that follow the Sunnah of the Prophet.
And even if you do have a chef or you have a teacher,
you're going to be doing 99% of the work that I have the
expectation that they're going to kind of just give you some
arrived, which they will, which will be a great help and will take
you there. But you have to also put in the effort, you also have
to want it you also have to struggle and strive and, you know,
it takes some Gehenna the teacher will help you get there and may
take you by the hand and get you there quicker or more effectively.
But
you think that you're not going to do anything, and it's just kind of
kind of come like that, then
this is not how usually it works. These are not the ASVAB Summit.
These are not the means by wildlife spa normally, will grant
people
entry into his kind of McCombs or Makala. To Iman, the higher
McCollum at the higher stations of Eman of shahada, and Tawakkol and
shawcor. And perhaps the level,
you'll still be kind of running around between enough similar wema
we're not in America, so
the blame or the self and the the
uniquitous self
stuff that always employs you to iniquity, you'll be kind of just
mired in that for a long time. So there has to be some logic. And
there has to be some courage in that. And maybe even, you know,
this is why we have the faculty of anger. So anger, if it's channeled
in the right way, it becomes courage, you need to be able to
courageous, and say, I'm going to stand up to myself. Right? It may
be more difficult to stand up to yourself than to stand up to an
outside adversary. But to stand up to yourself, I think is the most
courageous thing you can do because yourself is your greatest
enemy. This is the words of our province, I said, I'm not my
words, not the words of the show called apology anymore with the
Prophet, the worker enough to cultivate a GYMPIK your worst
enemy is your neffs, the one between your two sides. So if you
can stand up to that,
then you can stand up anything. And the prophets are some also
said he said the strong person is not the one who can pin you in
wrestling. He said the one then younger, kind of so on the top,
right, the one who can control themselves when they become angry,
right, because angry, anger and appetite those are the two twin
kind of
foundations of the of the
self that implores to iniquity. So when you become angry become
compromised, in the sense that you'll do things normally wouldn't
do. And if the Shaohua which is the appetite also becomes agitated
and seeking when it wants, it will also sometimes lead you to do
things that normally you wouldn't do if you had some time to stop
and pause and think about it and so forth. So taking getting those
two things under control as a member was any calls customer
shouting. So the breaking into two desires, which is desire, appetite
and desire, you know, that we should go towards anger.
So he calls it muscles and manpower, but it's actually
eventually just Himba you know,
aspiration and you have to do it hour after hour, day after day.
It will be somewhat of a struggle. But eventually your your lesson
will get teamed. Much in the same way when they talk about they said
the verse in the Quran certain metadata
about animals like hunting dogs and the Falcon and others that can
be trained to hold back on their own shadow. You know, anyone wants
a dog or has been around dogs knows that the number one child
for the dog is food is to eat. But yet they can be trained in a way
where they can go get the quarry for you, bring it back, keep it in
his mouth, but not eat from it. Because that's the condition for
the for the hunt to be successful and for the fruit to be hunted. At
least according to the medical school that the animal cannot eat
from that which is brought back from so it can actually kill the
prey. Right if it's like a wild duck or goose or something, the
pigeon and brings it back in its mouth. And normally it's instinct
is very instinct is to eat from that. But you know, Allah says
mocha livina to Allah Munna Hoonah Mima anima, Hula, hula mimma
saccadic must correspond loyally, so we can live in this world, not
what the hunting dogs trained dogs, teach them from that point,
you know, train them, and then they come back for a minute and
secondarily. So each from that which they have withheld inquiry
in their mouth and border back to you. What goes on why they and
remember, Allah's name on it. So if the hunting dog can be trained,
and why not the human being, you know, and his show, and his shower
is very strong, right when you know, try to stop your pet from
eating the food, when he puts it in, put it in the bowl. When it's
time to eat, it's nearly impossible. But these animals can
be trained. And so we too can be trained,
and even prophesy celery talked about
Teach your children
furusiyya You know how to ride a horse properly. And the
Remaliah, which is bow and arrow hitting the target was super
happy. And swimming. And perhaps the wisdom behind those three in
particular is there's a lot of training for the neffs in each of
them. So if you can get a hold of a large animal like a horse that
normally just with a swift kick from its hind legs can incapacity
to kill you. But yet, you train it to go into direction that you want
it to go. And to stop when you want it to stop and run when you
want it to run and gallop we want it to gallop and Cantori wanted to
cancer and so forth. And this animal normally that has its own
knifes, and it has its own idea of how it wants to go and run. But it
can be trained similarly
to Remaliah. Right, anyone who's done any sort of target shooting
with bone, our or other type of precision weapon will see that you
won't get it right the first time or the second time or the third
time, the fourth time actually takes practice. So there's
precision and there's accuracy. So accuracy is to hit the bull's eye
and precision is to be consistent in hitting the bull's eye. You
know what they call your grouping. So you want your grouping to be
close to, to the center of the target. And that takes practice.
It takes patience, right, because you get frustrated and you do it
100 times in a row the first time out, you don't get to where you
want it to go. But you know you make small, incremental changes
iterations in your stance in your in your grip in your form. And
then you find after a while, it becomes almost second nature to
you. And then you know the ball becomes a weapon becomes kind of
an extension of your body of your arm. And similarly with your neffs
if you train it well enough and put it through this iterative step
one step at a time, one day after day one might week after week,
month after month, then you will find instead of it being against
you, it will be for you. Right. It'll help you a lot. And finally
the Savannah, which is swimming.
Also, when we first structure train our force, it's a very
unfamiliar environment. Most of us most of our lives, vast majority
of humanity, we just used to kind of going for the thing that we
feel like going for the thing that would feel like eating and thing
that we feel like saying it's instinctual within us. And so to
kind of hold back on that and train the nerves to say stop doing
that which you think is instinctual and give it some
thought first, take a few steps back like swimming. You know when
you when you first get into the water, it's completely foreign
environment. And especially if you're in you know, a pool that
you can't stand in and then you have to keep
paddling legs underneath it to stay afloat. Your very survival
then depends upon your ability to adapt to this different
environment. And so some people just merely survive in it, and
others can thrive in it, you know, they, they perfect their swimming
form, and they can do different strokes. And, you know, they can
dive underneath the water for long periods of time and come up and,
and so forth. So it becomes almost like a second nature to them. And
in that, that physical training,
it can be borrowed and extended to the spiritual training. So, you
know, if you're the type person that you can go and spend
long hours learning something like the piano, or archery, or even
long hours in the gym working out, or any number of hours to get
something right to perfect something, then you're already
halfway there. Because you already have that, that we call the
standard that preparedness to train. And so that's why we also
encourage young people to do something like that, find
something that you can kind of get yourself into that will take you
on a progression from kind of a beginner level to, you know,
martial arts also has that I would say even
certain mind games like chess, can also provide some of this
training.
Look on the sheet artists and wanted to sit and tell me
something.
Oh, I wouldn't put video games particularly in that category.
I think it could be an interesting about video games are actually the
addictive nature of your game, I think is in
it gives you a sense of accomplishment. Right? So you
conquer level one. And then you're like, oh, okay, now I'm ready for
level two. So it kind of is hitting those dopamine levels,
right. And it's giving you a little bit of a rush each time
that you kind of go level. So you want to come back to it and see
where you're going with it. And I could say you can also extrapolate
that to fighting your neffs. So you will find that, okay, I might
level one of
kind of conquering minus today. Today in lunch, I had one less
spoonful than I usually had. And it was difficult, but then day two
was much easier. And then I can go and try something a little bit
more than that. And maybe I'll, instead of having like, five
different categories of, you know,
food servings around me, I mean, I can only do two, and so forth. And
if I'm trying to build a repertoire of, let's say,
recitation of Quran or thicker, or a word during the day, maybe I can
only do five minutes at a time. And then maybe the next time I'll
try to do seven minutes. And then the next time I'll try to do nine,
you know, much in the same way that you do anything when you're
training. That's how training works. First time you go to the
gym, you're not going to go to the benchpress. And you know, and
benchpress, your, your body weight, for example, again, have
to take time to work up to that. And so each time progressively,
you add a little bit more weight and a few more reps until you till
you build yourself that way. So Jonnie, it's within reach, it can
be done in sha Allah, you also have a teacher, teacher share or
mentor. They also encourage you along the way, and then there's
the baraka of, of their company and their sama and so forth. So
I guess we're just out of time, so we'll stop here. We didn't get 51
So that will be for the next session with a lot of a lot of
people
