We come to tonight
the completion of Surah Al Baqarah.
And to summarize Surah Al Baqarah,
the themes that we've been going through,
The beginning Allah Subhanahu explains
the pillars
of Iman and the pillars of Islam.
And Allah Subhanahu talks about the incorrect way
to receive this guidance, meaning to try to
distort it, reform it, or change it.
And then
Allah spoke about
the principle behind all of His commandments, which
is to maximize benefit
and to repel harm.
Then after making this clear, Allah then sends
down a series
of akham rules and regulations regarding
the orphan,
regarding charity, regarding, as we heard tonight,
interest payments, as we heard last night, akham
regulations regarding divorce.
And all leads up to the end of
Surat Al Baqarah which we will hear tonight
insha Allah
where the conclusion is that the believers after
going through all these themes,
they come to the conclusion say,
that we hear
and we obey.
Now here's where some Christians have a problem
with this
because they
say man is imperfect
and man cannot,
is not able to fulfill
the commandments of God because he's imperfect. He's
not able to fulfill these commandments.
Allah subhanahu wa'ala answers them
in the next statement.
That
Allah
Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala does not place a task
or a commandment or an imperative
on any individual beyond what it can bear.
So every single commandment that Allah has given
us is possible for us to do.
So if you can't stand in salah to
pray,
you can sit and pray.
If you can't sit, you can lay down
and pray with the movements of your head.
If you can't move your head,
then you move
with the angles of your eyes.
If you can't move your eyes,
then you pray with your thoughts.
And if you can't
think, then the prayer is not an obligation
on you anymore.
The principle is there's no obligation when there's
inability.
So Allah Subhanahu responds to this
argument, meaning that whatever He has revealed
is
possible for mankind to perform and do.
The second point that some Christians
have an issue with God's commandments, and that's
why some of the Christians
have abolished
the law and said there are no commandments,
there's no works, all you need is just
having faith.
The second issue
that they say
is that
they have an issue with the problem of
sin, that these commandments will cause human beings
to sin.
And sin, either it be the original sin
or the sin on this earth,
as they say, it's a problem. And how
can they get rid of sin?
So to get rid of sin, they require
a human to be crucified and sacrificed, and
there's bloodshed for sin to be resolved.
Allah subhanahu wa'ala also answers this,
and they say we hear and we obey.
Once we have commandments we have to obey,
the very next thing Allah says,
Oh, Allah,
we ask you to grant us your forgiveness.
Meaning Allah is expecting
us to sin.
Sin is a natural action of the human
being.
Once there's commandments, there's going to be sin,
and Allah is telling us how to remedy
the sin. There's no crucifixion required. All you
need to do is ask for Allah's forgiveness.
To the point Allah subhanahu, the prophet Muhammad
sallallahu alaihi wa sallam said,
if you were not to sin,
Allah would remove
you and bring a people who would sin
and then seek his forgiveness,
and then Allah will forgive them.
So Allah is expecting us to sin, that
sin is part
of our lives. As the prophet Muhammad
said, Every single human being
will be a sinner.
We will sin.
But the best of the sinners who repent
a lot and often to Allah
So Allah
deals with those arguments right there at the
end of Surat Al Baqarah, and this is
a precursor
in speaking to the Ahlul Kitab, the Jews
and Christians, because the next Surah, Surah Al
I Imran, as we will see, InshaAllah, goes
into more details
in discussing
some of their arguments.
