Assalamu alaykum wa Rahmatullahi wabarakatuhu
my dear brothers and sisters, hope you guys
are doing well. May Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
bless us with the best in this dunya
and the akhirah.
In today's video, we're gonna be talking about
the importance of the Quran
and how to develop
a relationship with the Quran.
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala is telling us that
if we sent down the Quran upon a
mountain,
and the mountain was given human capabilities to
be able to understand the message of the
Quran,
to be able to ponder and reflect
upon the meaning of the Quran and the
content of the Quran,
that you would see it humble
and split apart from the fear of Allah
That in spite of the fact that this
solid structure,
if it had our abilities,
it will crumble from the fear of Allah
And these examples we bring forward,
so that people can think about, people can
realize the greatness of Allah
If this is the state of a mountain,
if it could think and understand the Quran,
that it will crumble from the fear of
Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala,
then what should be our state?
When we recite the Quran,
how should we be feeling when we recite
the Quran,
when we study the Quran, when we reflect
upon the Quran.
In another eye, Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala tells
us,
In this ayah, Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala is
addressing
everybody, and he's telling them, oh, mankind,
a reminder has come to you from your
Lord, not from anyone, but from Allah Subhanahu
Wa Ta'ala, the one who created
you and everything that's in this world. He
is the sole creator,
and this reminder
is a cure
for the hearts.
Not only is a cure,
it is a means of guidance
and mercy
for the believers.
Allah
describes the Quran as
that this is a reminder,
that which guides towards good,
that which keeps us away from that which
is wrong, that shows us the direction to
Allah
Not only that, it's a cure,
cure for our hearts, cure for doubts,
20 fourseven
Shaitaan is coming at us
with his whispers, and if we don't take
the time out to understand the Quran, and
to read the Quran, and to reflect over
the Quran,
then how are we gonna ward off Shaitaan?
And who are the people that benefit from
the Quran?
Are the ones who have belief, the ones
who believe in Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala.
So us as Muslims, we need to give
the Quran the time of day to study
it, to understand it,
so that we can also change.
And in general, people usually fall into 4
categories when it comes to their relationship with
the Quran.
Number 1,
listening to the Quran,
and this has tremendous benefit, and a person
is rewarded for listening to the Quran,
and perhaps they listen to an Ayah
and it causes their heart to melt and
causes them to get closer to Allah Subhanahu
Wa Ta'ala.
Number 2,
is a relationship of recitation, of reading the
Quran,
and this is
beneficial to the reader
because the prophet
said,
that whoever recites a harf, a letter from
the Quran,
and for each letter they get a good
deed, and good deeds are multiplied by 10.
And the Prophet
said that I don't say
that Alif, Lam, Meem is a letter, but
Alif is a letter, Lam is a letter,
and Meem is a letter. So for each
letter that we recite from the Quran, we're
getting 10 good deeds.
So imagine 1 page, how many good deeds
just by reciting the Quran.
Irrespective of the fact, if we're understanding
what we're reading or not, we're still getting
rewarded,
but the more we understand, the better it
is for us.
Thirdly,
studying the Quran,
understanding the meanings of the Quran.
The prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam
said, that people don't gather in the house
from the houses of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala
reciting his book and studying it between themselves,
except that tranquility
descends upon them,
and mercy covers them,
and the angels surround them, and Allah Subhanahu
Wa Ta'ala mentions these people
to those in his company.
So this is a category
above the previous two categories
that studying the Quran we get surrounded by
the mercy of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala. Not
only that Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala is mentioning
us
to the angels in his company,
but there's a level higher than that, And
fourthly,
a relationship that's based on reflection
and action.
And this is the highest level and the
level that we should all be striving towards
achieving.
Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala tells us in the
Quran,
Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala tells us that he
sent down a book,
not any book, but a blessed book,
For the reason so that we may ponder
over it, so that we reflect over it,
and that those people who have intellect
will realize.
And this is the true purpose of Allah
sending down the Quran to us, so that
we reflect upon it,
and we understand it, and we implement it.
Allah tells us in another
Look what's in the Quran, what the message
of the Quran is. If it was from
anyone other than Allah
they would have found many inconsistencies
in the Quran, many differences,
but the Quran is consistent in its message.
And it's true
when a person reflects upon the Quran
and gives the Quran
it's right,
and spends time with the Quran reflecting upon
the verses of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala,
they come to realize that this is the
book of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala, that what
it's telling us is the truth,
and by acting upon it,
we take our lives to the next level,
we become from the
people of Quran.
The prophet
told us that Allah
has special people,
people who are very dear and close to
Allah
They asked him who are these people You
Rasulullah?
He said, they're
the people of the Quran are the special
slaves of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala.
We don't become Quran
just by memorizing the Quran
or just by reciting the Quran,
but those people who understand,
reflect, and act upon it are the people
of the Quran.
Allah tells us in the Quran
that they recited
the true recitation. What this Ayah really means
is
they act upon the Quran
the way it is meant to be acted
upon.
Most people usually fall into the first categories
when it comes to their relationship with the
Quran, one of listening and recitation,
and one day I was listening to a
lecture
and the Sheikh was talking about the Quran,
and that's exactly what he said that most
people have
a relationship with the Quran based on recitation
and listening and that is good,
and it hit me at that time that
my relationship
is one of review and recitation,
and that's not where I want to be,
and I'm not saying that I'm from Ahlul
Quran,
but I hope
that I can get there one day, that
I can be like those individuals
who study the Quran, and reflect upon it,
and most importantly
act upon the Quran, act upon his teachings.
So what can we do to develop our
relationship with the Quran?
This is today's exercise.
Firstly,
based on these 4 categories,
where do you find yourself? Which category would
you put yourself in?
Number 2,
let's take some time and rate our relationship
with the Quran.
So on a scale from
1 to 10,
what score would we give ourselves?
When I first did this
Quran audit,
I gave myself a 3,
and the beautiful thing about this exercise is
that it gives us perspective.
It shows us where we are,
and we shouldn't feel bad about our score
because it shows us where we are,
and the only direction that we can move
towards is forward.
We can only improve our relationship with the
Quran.
From these two exercises,
we get clarity.
Having
a relationship with the Quran based on any
of the 4 categories is good. It's better
than not having a relationship at all, and
even if we don't have a relationship,
we can start now. The beautiful thing is
that we're still alive. We're listening to this.
We can start now. We can start building
our relationship
with the Quran.
Now that we have clarity on where we
stand when it comes to our relationship with
the Quran, the first thing we need to
do is we need to make the intention,
the sincere intention to Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala
that I want to be from Alhur Quran.
I wanna be from those special people of
Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala and it doesn't happen
overnight. We don't flip a switch and all
of a sudden we become Alhur Quran.
It takes time,
but we have to take it
slowly
and consistently.
We have to give the Quran the time
of the day,
and we wanna follow in the footsteps of
the Sahaba radiAllahu anhu.
Ibn Umar said
that we were the first of this nation,
and some of the best Sahaba,
they didn't have except a few Suras,
few chapters from the Quran with them memorized,
and some even less than that,
but they were given
the ability to act upon the Quran,
and that is the most important thing, acting
upon the Quran.
So we will implement
3 principles when it comes to
developing our relationship with the Quran. 1st principle
is we take it slow.
We don't try to do everything at once,
and then burn out, and then give up.
Take it slowly,
once we
establish the routine of reading the Quran or
studying the Quran for 15 minutes per day,
then we can build on top of that.
But in the beginning, we wanna take it
slow.
Secondly,
our main concern understanding
the Quran and reflecting upon it.
To understand what the Quran means.
At the same time, we take time out
to read the Quran
and listen to the Quran, no problem, but
our main focus, what we wanna focus on
is
understanding and reflecting upon the Quran,
and lastly, to act upon the Quran.
The
they looked at their lives and they compared
it to the teaching of the Quran.
If Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala is telling them
something, are they truly adhering to that? He's
telling them to stay away from something, are
they staying away from it? When Allah Subhanahu
Wa Ta'ala informs them of something,
how is their acceptance of that information?
And they actually went out and implemented the
teachings of the Quran.
May Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala make us from
ahlul Quran,
and may he raise us
on the day of judgment
with the people of the Quran.
Until next time.
