Welcome back to our series, the continuation of the best and the worst Alhamdulillah. We are done with the 10 days of the Hijjah. And now we're going back to our series, where we cover a hadith of Rasulullah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam that talks about the best and the worst, the best in the worst actions, people. And anytime the Prophet SAW Allah why Islam has talked about this, Inshallah, we'll try to cover some of those Hadith. Today I want to talk about a Hadith of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam that highlights the importance of the importance and the objective of knowledge. First of all, I do want to mention that when we go back, you know, in humbler today, this
is 2020 Alhamdulillah, Islam is spreading all over America. And many people of the Muslim community, they are eager to learn about our deen. But if you go back 30 years, 40 years, first of all, there are not that many misogyny in America, there were not many there were not there was probably any, there were no Islamic seminaries in America altogether. And not only that, but there were very few to almost equal to none, you know, Quran programs, and so forth in our massages now Alhamdulillah today, we have so many massages, that are offering Quran programs, we have Sunday school now which has become a you know, which has become a standard pretty much across the nation. And all these days
going on and hamdulillah and now you have so many youth also who are willing to become sure you and Allah MA and they, you know want to dedicate six to seven years of their life to study their deen and you know, just acquire more knowledge and then eventually serve their community and hunger. All that in itself is great. And I'm humbled that we have made tremendous progress in America as a Muslim community. But one thing I do want to highlight is that when it comes to seeking knowledge, we have to make sure that our intention is purely for the sake of Allah subhanho wa taala. When it comes to acquiring knowledge, today, yes, brothers and sisters, we are living in a time where people
they do want to acquire the knowledge of their Deen they want to learn more about their Deen. But a lot of times we see that people want to acquire that knowledge, not for the right reasons. So first of all, they are inherently they have no tarbiyah inherently their Iman is weak there, Islam is weak, there is a low level of religiosity. And then not only that, but on top of that, they want to seek knowledge, not for the right reasons. And this is some this is becomes very dangerous to the community at large. See a person who does something wrong or a person who has the wrong intention, the negative impact of their intention, and their action is limited to them. But when a person
acquires knowledge, and then they promote themselves, and they tell other people that they are and people have knowledge, and they begin to teach and preach and so forth, and they're not doing it for the right reasons, then eventually the impact or the negative impact of their doing is going to be even greater. This is why there is a Sahabi by the name of Allah who was able to Hakeem he says and he narrates from his father, that once he was sitting around Rasulullah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, and a man came to the Prophet sallallahu ala he was setting them and he asked him about something negative. He asked him about shadow and wrongdoing an evil. And the problem is that Allahu Allah, he
was salam. He says, Let us a loony and he shall. The Prophet saw some was a very optimistic person. He was a very, you know, positive person to begin with. He did not like negativity he never liked and doubts and pessimism and so forth. So what did he say? He said that do not ask me about something that is negative or evil or wrong. And he says, What's the loony and hide? rather ask me about something that is great. And something that is good. Now the Prophet saw some he said this three times to emphasize upon this, and then the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam to answer the question of this person. He says, I live in Charlotte Russe, Sheree Shirodhara Hola, Ma, the Prophet
salallahu Alaihe Salam, he says, The worst evil consist in the
The person who is a learned person, and he is an evil person. So meaning that this person inherently, his heart was not in the right place. His intentions were not purely for Allah subhanho wa taala. And eventually, when he acquired knowledge on top of that, he was not disseminating and dispensing that knowledge in the correct way. And because of that, the negative impact is affecting a greater group of people. And this is why the Prophet sallallahu sallam, he talked about this. And then he says, On the other hand, we're in a halal highly the best of the best, or those who are the best or lemma or those who are the man who have the right intention. So let's quickly talk about
that. What does this mean? Brothers and sisters, if your intention when seeking knowledge is that I want to become famous, or I want to become well known, or I want more credibility, or I want to, you know, gain fame, or I want people to come and praise me, because you seen someone else with all these things than brothers and sisters, you are acquiring knowledge for the wrong reasons. If there is one objective of knowledge in Ireland, it is to bring us closer to Allah subhana wa to Isla. And this is why we find even in the Quran, when Allah subhanho wa Taala gives the parallel of a donkey that has many books on his backs on his back come with humanity. As far as that the people long time
ago at the time of the Prophet sallahu wa sallam, they did acquire a lot of knowledge. You have certain communities in Medina, they had a lot of knowledge. But what benefit did that knowledge give to them, they were not able to bring Iman they were not able to accept Islam, and believe in Rasulullah sallallahu sallam, then what's the point of that knowledge. So therefore it is absolutely important that the knowledge that you and I we acquire, if we want to acquire it should be only for one reason. And that is to please Allah subhana wa to Allah, and through your knowledge and make this intention, there's nothing wrong and make it his intention that I'm going to acquire knowledge
so that I can serve Allah's humanity I can serve the creation of Allah subhanho wa Taala not just serve a certain group of people, but I'm going to serve a greater group of people. I'm going to be there for everyone. Just like Rasulullah last Allahu alayhi wa sallam, he served everyone in his community. He served the men he served the women, he served the young, the old middle age, he served everyone and that is what we need to do. And so I want to conclude on this in sha Allah, that Imam Ghazali Allah, Allah, Allah, he says, he mentioned beautifully, that there are few things that if you have these things in your heart, when seeking knowledge, then your knowledge is not going to
benefit you. The very first one is if the if I have in my heart that I want people to come in, praise me, then that knowledge, yes, we will have knowledge, but that knowledge will not be beneficial to us. Number two is keeper. If a person has arrogance in their heart mean that I'm acquiring knowledge so that I can respond to other people, so I can provide a rebuttal to anyone who comes and they object to the object to me, and my sayings or my actions and so forth. Cable brothers and sisters, as we all know is what led shaytaan out of Jannah. And this is why the Prophet SAW Allah why some he says in a hadith, that anyone who has an iota amount of Kibera in their heart will
not go into Jannah. So that therefore, we should not acquire knowledge for that purpose. And also, one of the reasons that Imam Ghazali mentioned is that if you are acquiring knowledge, so that you can be you can, you know, serve only a certain group and attack others and lodge accusations against others than this is not the nature and the essence of knowledge. You know, subhanAllah Dare I say that there is nothing wrong in disagreeing with each other. But today Subhanallah we are living in times where people are taking their arguments, and they're taking their frustration to YouTube and so forth, and to sow into social media, and they're launching attacks against one another. Brothers
and sisters. This was not the nature of the Prophet Allahu alayhi wa sallam. This was not the nature of our own amount. Our green scholars, this was not their nature. I'm going to show a shirt one quickly one story with you, Imam Malik Muhammad Allah Allah as we all know, Imam O'Donnell Hijra. He was the Imam of Medina, he had a law or he had a rule in his suit and FIP that the armor of the people of Medina is a it can be used as proof for to do something. So this was his opinion. Now in Egypt there was
Another scholar by the name of lathe, abou, Imam lathe Abu side, or shake laser Musa. And what he said was that he completely disagrees with Imam Malik. Now Subhanallah you have two scholars, they disagree with each other. They have made their disagreement, even public to nothing wrong with that, but they never attacked each other. They never went out after each other's honor and dignity and so forth. Today we see on social media, people posting things such as I called out this person, but this person not want to come and argue with me. That means that he's, you know, he's a coward. He's not honest and so forth. This is not part of our deen and today's Subhanallah when those same people
are told that do not do this, and why are you doing this? They think that this is part of then if you think that this is part of then then I really suspect your credibility. I suspect where you got your knowledge from because that is not the essence of knowledge. Imam Malik Rahmatullah and he though he knows that Imam lays Abu side in Egypt has completely disagreed with him, but they love each other for the sake of Allah subhana wa Tada. They had mutual respect amongst each other. And so Imam Malik when his daughter was getting married, even sent a letter to Imam Lisa boosah that there's a certain perfume that is sold in Egypt. And if you can, please send that to me. And I would
like to give them to give that as a gift to my daughter for her wedding. And Imam Nita Musa out of respect for Imam Malik, he sends so much not just one bottle of perfume, he sends so many balls of perfume to Imam Malik. Later on when Imam Musa Musa came to Medina Imam Malik wants to repay his favor. So what he did was that he got a tray and he filled it up with the dates of Medina a very well known data Medina and he sent to him as a gift. When Imam Musa Musa al received that that tray of dates. What he did was he repaid that favor again, although he's not need to, but he repaid Imam Malik by doing what by filling up that tray with gold Imam Musa Musa was a very you know he's very
well off to so you fill it up with gold and he sent it back to your medic, to people, to scholars disagreement is there but mutual respect, respect that everyone could see that this is what knowledge is. So this is why it's very important brothers and sisters, that first of all is that when it comes to acquiring knowledge, there is nothing wrong in acquiring knowledge, but do it for the right reason. Do it with the right intention and do it because you want to please Allah subhanho wa Taala do it that you will with sincerely and in class, you will serve the creation of Allah subhanho wa Taala and you will help the creation of Allah subhanho wa Taala I ask Allah subhanho wa
Taala to grant all of us a class may Allah subhanho wa Taala when it comes to acquiring knowledge, and teaching and preaching knowledge, may Allah subhanho wa Taala make us from the best of the best and keep us away from the worst of the worst me robot Alameen Docomo Allah had a Salam walakum wa rahmatullahi wa barakato
