So,
today InshaAllah we'll talk about someone who was
imprisoned
during the month of Ramadan.
He was in chains
and he's out now and he is mad.
Right? We know the Uthinta kharif from the
promised sasas and that when Ramadan begins,
the shayateen, the devils are in chains. They
are chained. Right? So they are not able
to whisper to you, they are not able
to to mislead you in the month of
Ramadan as they are out any other time
throughout the year. So Shaitan is out. He
is mad. He's after you and me trying
to take us away from the way of
Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala.
Trying to waste all their words that we
accumulated throughout the month of Ramadan,
all the fasting and all the prayers and
the charities and the good things. Right? He's
giving us the impression
that the Masjid is closed after Ramadan. There's
no need to pray. There's no need to
fast. There's no need to give in charity.
There's no need to behave brightly.
This is his mission, and this is his
mission. Allah
says in the Quran,
The mission of shaitan
is to take his followers to Jahannam because
misery loves company, as they say in English,
and he doesn't want to feel lonely in
Jahannam in, you know, in the fire, so
he would like to take someone with him.
Right? We'll talk about this as we,
explain some ayat
from Surah Al Asrar chapter number 17 of
the Quran. Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala talks about
the relationship
between humans
and shaitan,
Satan,
throughout the year, at least in 3 different
places in this Surah.
Surah Al Islam is one of the earliest
Surah's revealed to the prophet
and he loved it so much
that he always recited it in salah.
Abdul Mas'ud and the other sahab where he
said, we memorize the Surah Surah Al Ishla
from the prophet
in salah because he used to recite it
all the time. Right?
So Allah
gives us,
the bigger picture
of the relationship between us and the shaitan
in Surat Al Islam
and how we should avoid his invitation and
his worship
at least in 3 different spots in this
world.
So we begin with the Ayat 61
to 69
in the Surah. Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala starts
the story, the relationship between us and the
Shaitan from the very beginning.
So Allah in this ayah 61,
he says, and remember
when he ordered the angels to make such
a to Adam to bow down before Adam,
so they all did. They fall of the
command of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala except Iblis.
And this was the name of Satan before
he was sent down, just like Lucifer in
English.
So
Iblis refused to make Sadra. You know the
story.
He refused, and he said, why should I
make sense now? Why should I bow down
before someone created from dust or from mud?
You know?
I'm bitter than him. Right? So why should
I bow down before him? So, again, the
whole point was about obedience. It was not
about who is better than who is because
the angels are better than Shaitan. They were
created from fire, not from, from light, not
from fire. And light is better than fire.
So if someone is better than you made,
why would you be too proud to make
to him?
Then he said, he made a promise to
Allah, I will show you that I will
mislead all of them. I will take hold
of them
except this youth, the chosen ones, the best
ones. Right?
He said, yeah,
I will show you if you delay me
until the day of judgment.
He didn't want to die. He said, delay
my end till the day of judgment because
he didn't want to die. Right? And he
said, if you delay me, I will show
you that I will mislead them. There's nothing
good about them.
Right? I will take all of them except
the few.
And this few is explained in a hadith
and a Bukhary.
The prophet
says, on the day of judgment Allah will
call out to Adam the father of humanity
and he will say, oh Adam
bring forth
the portion
designated for Jahannam, for the fire.
Right? So,
Adam will say, how many? Then Allah subhanahu
wa ta'ala will say, out of every 1,999,
only one person of the 1,000 will be
saved.
Then the prophet
said, at this moment,
children, their hair will will grow gray. Their
their shape their hair will become white
out of the horror of the situation.
And every
pregnant lady will dread deliver her baby prematurely,
and you will see people,
you know, as if they were drunk, but
they're not drunk. But the, the horror is
so immense for people on that day. So
this is admission.
Then Allah said,
Allah
says, be gone. Whoever follows a view of
them, the jahannam would be your reward, and
this is a very befitting
reward.
Then Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala talks about the
techniques
that the shaitan would use to
whisper to them, incite them with your voice.
Mobilize
all your forces,
your infantry and cavalry
against them. He's talking about the human shaitan
and the jinni shaitan, the devilish humans and
jinn, who mislead people, who whisper to them
all the time.
So the second technique
is,
manipulate them through their children and money.
Most people go to Jahannam because of their
money and because of their children.
Right? Okay. The money we know. It's it's
easy. When people
make money,
from harm resources,
they sell drugs, they take bribes, they cheat,
they lie, they sell things that are not
permissible. So this is one cause. And for
the children,
you start with how the children come to
life. Some people,
you know,
they, they have children,
you know, out of marriage. So this is
one way that leads to to the punishment
in the end. Right? And the second one,
because you're always concerned about your kid's future,
some people will do anything,
anything they can to secure a future for
them.
Even by stealing, even by lying, even by
taking haram, they don't care. They want to
secure a future for their kids. Right?
They are tested by their kids. Right?
In another place in the Quran, Allah
subhanahu wa ta'ala says, the Surah Alta Talahu,
indeed your children,
your wealth, they are all a task for
you. Right? And they say the reason that
some people in Mecca,
they refused to immigrate to Madinah with the
prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam because
their children
didn't want them to leave Mecca and their
wives didn't want them to leave Mecca. They
had businesses there, they said, okay. We're not
gonna sacrifice our kids and our businesses
and immigrate to Madinah with the prophet SAWSALAM.
So this is one way.
When
we stay here to secure a good future
for our kids,
we work day and night, 2 or 3
jobs. Right?
Whether we do what's permissible, what is not
permissible to make a future for them, and
sometimes we get so busy with the money,
we forget all about our kids, we think
that the only thing they need is money,
so we ignore their future, we ignore their
character, we ignore their manner. Some people don't
care, and you end up with your kids.
Even if you're the the best father and
the best mother, there is a chance that
your your your kid will deviate from the
way of Islam. And I hear stories
because we think, yes, Alhamdulillah,
this is a good country, it has freedoms
and democracy for our kids. And I always
say,
don't be deceived. This is a beautiful country.
Yes. There's democracy and freedom.
And the best thing I love about this
country is the freedom we have that many
of us didn't have back home,
but the worst thing about this country is
too much freedom.
And your kids have used the system, and
you as a husband or you as a
father, whenever there's a conflict, you as a
man, most of the time, you are the
weakest side in the conflict because usually the
parties will side with the wife or with
the kids. I'm not trying to be, you
know, male chauvinistic or anything, but I've seen
so many cases through counseling. Right?
So you find yourself in a situation where
you have no authority,
you have no say.
If your daughter decides to date and, you
know, a non Muslim or
your son decides to leave Islam, you have
say it because your kids know and this
is what they usually say. They tell you
upfront,
you know, there's nothing you can do about
it. If you lay a finger on me,
I'm gonna call the police. Right? I can't
leave the house. There's nothing you can do.
So they know the system. They tell them
at school. Right? So you should always keep
this in your mind that your money and
your wealth can be your way your way
to Jannah and it can be your way
to Jahann. Right?
So if we keep our responsibility
to our families, Alhamdulillah.
But if you are not doing well enough,
then make sure inshallah we have the chance
to bend our ways and to take care
of our children and our families.
Then Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala talks about the
3rd technique.
Wa'ilum.
Give them false promises, give them empty hopes.
Oh, mashaAllah, you are 55 men, you're still
young, you can do whatever you want, You
don't have to pray. You don't have to
fast. You can cheat. You can do whatever
you want. Because remember, your grandfather was a
110 when he passed away. You still have
like 60 years to go. Right? So all
these empty promises
or
you know what?
Look around you. All the people are thieves.
They're chores. You are better than anyone else,
you know. You're not doing anything. You're a
good guy. Remember last year, we prayed Eid
in Jammah. Right?
There are people who never go to the
masjid. They don't go. So you're better than,
like, what, 70%
of the people? These these are the false
hopes, the empty promises that the Shaitan gives
me and you. Right? Then the next thing
is you have a car accident on the
highway, and you die in the same week.
Right? So all these empty hopes and this
is one of the techniques that Allah Subhanahu
Wa Ta'ala talks about. Another technique which is
related to money Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala says
In
the same surah, ayat 20 7, Allah subhanahu
wa ta'ala says those who waste
those who waste, those who are arrogant, those
who show up, those who waste their money
in Haram,
they are like the brothers of Shaytan. Why?
Because Shaytan
is happy when they do the wrong.
And when you spend the money, you waste
the money in palm, like, you buy drugs,
you buy whatever,
then this money could have been used in
doing something good. So this is a wasted
opportunity.
The third one,
the the third place in the Surah Allah
speaks about the techniques of the shaitan,
and this is the last one. We'll conclude
with this in in in the shaitan, in
the this kutba, the first one.
So Allah
says,
tell my
servants
to say what is best. Why? Because Shaitan
sows his court and he puts enmity between
them based on the things they do, based
on their attitude.
So when you think badly of people, when
you say bad things, when you're not considerate
when you talk, you just say things, you
hurt people's feelings,
then the next thing is the people are
not talking to each other. I know people
in the different communities I visited because the
counseling,
you know, always comes to my office. Wallah,
I know brothers.
Two brothers, you know you know, from the
same father and the same mother. Full brothers.
They were not talking to each other for
over 35 years. Why? Because the difference over
a piece of land, they left back in
a country which is occupied now by another
occupying floors and both of them cannot even
have control over that piece of money, right?
So their families got involved
and they call the police on each other.
They're not talking for nonsense. They're wasting their
lives
just because someone said something. Right?
So you always have the best,
thinking about your Muslim brothers and sisters. Before
you open your mouth, you have to process
whatever you're going to say whether it's beneficial
or no, whether it's going to hurt someone's
feelings or no. Right?
I love this story about
a great man. Right?
So
You know, he used to think, well, all
the people, even if they did him wrong.
So his wife told him one night, look
at your friends. They are bad people, they're
they are not good.
She said, because
if Allah gives you money, you see them
all around you. But if you have no
money, you never see none of them. He
says, well, this is a sign of of
goodness. They are honorable, and they are good
people. Why? Because if they think I'm able
to serve them, they come to me. But
if they think I'm not able to serve
them, they don't embarrass me, so they don't
ask me for help. It's a good thing.
So this is the way he thought about
his brothers.
So always think about your brothers and sisters
in this way and always look for excuses
for them. Give them the benefit of that.
As mentioned in the hadith, we ask Allah
subhanahu wa ta'ala to give us the best
in this life and the best in the
life of God.
So inshallah, I'm gonna finish with an announcement.
And,
I've been serving this community for 2 years,
Alhamdulillah,
since October 2013.
And,
my wife and my family, we have decided,
inshallah,
to,
to move closer to Toronto for personal and
and family reasons, inshallah.
So in the last years, alhamdulillah,
we have done a lot of things, put
things together as a community.
And, Alhamdulillah, I'm grateful to the administration of
the masjid for giving me this opportunity to
to serve this wonderful community.
Alhamdulillah.
There are so many things that have been
done, and nothing could have been done with
without your help, without
board of the Nashiq. So, I thank you
all for all the great assistance inshallah.
I know,
some good things have been done. There are
shortcomings,
so
good things and bad things,
mistakes on my side, shortcomings.
We're all human beings. We, do our best
and we make mistakes, and we hope that
Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala reward us for the
good and forgive the bad.
Touched so many lives in the community,
and I have been touched by so many
people in the community.
So hopefully, inshallah, you will find a better
imam. I don't think I'll ever find a
better community. Masha'allah, this is one of the,
the the greatest communities I've been to. This
is one of the most generous communities I've
been to. Just think about the fundraisers we
have together and people opening their homes and
and their hearts for me and the family
and the other people in the community. So
I'm gonna go quickly through some of the
things that have been done just in in
a couple of minutes inshaAllah
to, to to see how the community is
and where the community will be going inshaAllah
in the future. So we can have a
vision for the next 30 or 50 years
inshaAllah.
Generally,
any imam has 3,
3 duties. The first one is the religious,
like leading salah, leading prayer, janaz, and all
these things. They're religious duties. And number 2,
the educational duties, like the halaz, the footbath,
inside the masjid or outside, like like, Prague,
for example.
And number 3, the spiritual,
duties.
Social duties, like the counseling,
marriage, divorce,
and and all these things. Right? And part
of the educational,
duty is also to reach out to outside
community, to Muslims and non Muslims, to do
dawah, interfaith,
to reach out to the media. So this
is part of the job. So, Alhamdulillah, I
think,
great difference have been,
done in the community in terms of,
Dawah. You think of the path lift, reaching
out to the youth and rebirths, the interfaith
community,
visiting churches, giving them talks, inviting people to
the open house and the taste of Ramadan,
over the last 2 years. Alhamdulillah.
And, Alhamdulillah, I see some positive things
happening in the community.
So over the last 2 years
with the help of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala,
I've given shahada to, 20 people.
And
one of them, inshallah, is, sister Jeanette.
If she can hear me now in the
back, she can come forward and she will
take Shadda right now so she will pray
Jumaa Abu Asin Sh'Allah.
Just quickly In
Sh'Allah.
So I hope so just repeat the line
So this is one thing. You have seen
a lot of articles in the standard,
and alhamdulillah, that is a very good impression
of our community. So please, as I always
say, every single one of us is a
representative
of the community.
Whether you go to school or you park
across the plaza or you cross the street,
people know that people don't know your name.
People don't know where you are from or
who your family is. They know one thing.
They know you are a Muslim. If you
do something good, you will give them a
good impression.
If you do something bad, you'll give a
negative impression. So always keep this in mind,
you are representing not only the Saint Catherine's
community, you are representing the Muslim community worldwide.
1,600,000,000
people.
With regards to the
counseling, I have done hundreds of decisions, whether
we're talking about marriage,
marriage problems,
kids,
personal counseling, like someone is getting involved in,
you know, how to make decision about school,
about marriage, about life in general. So there
are so many counseling sessions going on, especially
after people have found out that there there
is an iman, so they always come. Alhamdulillah.
So this is a positive thing.
With the Halavas in the Masjid,
so we have the latest halakhah on Friday.
We have the youth halakhah Saturday and Sunday.
We have the 5th halakhah on Saturday as
well.
Then we have the tafsir halakhah on Thursday.
There are also the
There's several Halafah going on that is the
Tajweed Halafah in the morning. So the brothers
who received the Ijazah,
there are 7 of that. For
from Libya and Allah. He also got Ijazah
in the crowd house. So these 7 brothers
in the community,
they can give hijazahs now. They can teach
the Tajweed Halafah, they can also teach classes
in in the masjid.
Overall,
especially the youth is a challenge. So no
matter how hard you do,
especially the boys. Right? You cannot attract them
to the masjid all the time. Even if
you are the best speaker, they run away.
In the masjid at Brock, so the attendance
was mostly female. Right? Because the prophets always
run away.
You can't keep their focus. Right? So they
always get distracted. If you want to bring
them back, you have to introduce,
basketball and activities,
whatever. Because the boys, especially, they always they
like activities, they run away. Right? And they
can't keep their focus for for so long.
And this is why, you know, they say,
if you tell your husband
to do something,
he would do it, so there's no reason
to remind him every 6 months. Why? Because
we get distracted all the time, we don't
focus as men. Right? So,
but generally the sisters Halacha was steady.
The boys Halacha, they use Halacha especially in
the exam times,
summer times,
when they need activities like basketball and this
the numbers went down. So inshallah,
hopefully inshallah will find ways to, to attract
them more. Alhamdulillah, there were so many gatherings
in the community inside and outside,
rivers and the youth.
So many lives have been impacted.
We had all gatherings outside, so we go
and sit together with the youth and rebirth
and we spoke. And every time someone took
Shahada, I introduced him to,
or her to, a mentor,
someone from the community, a good Muslim brother
or sister to, to take care of them.
I think the last thing I'm going to,
to do before I leave inshallah, I'm going
to reach out
to the families who don't come to the
Masjid or the youth who are not coming
to the Masjid, so we connect them to
the masjid inshallah. And make sure inshallah if
you know someone who doesn't come to the
masjid, always invite them.
If you know someone who needs my help,
before I leave inshallah on September 1st, then
contact me through email or call so I
can visit them in their home. That you
can get together or the families can invite
me Sundays
and Wednesdays and I'll be happy to assist
inshallah. So eventually I ask you inshallah if
I've ever done something good, make dua for
me and the family. If I ever,
feel short or I was not up to
your expectations or if I ever said something
that made you,
uncomfortable or unhappy with me, that was never,
my intention.
I hope you always appreciated the talks and
the activities and the efforts that were done.
I hope you like the stories, and I
hope that Allah
will bless this wonderful community and give you
all the best. And hope Allah
will give us a Jannah altogether
and gather us together in
