I bear witness that there is none worthy
of our worship except Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala.
And I bear witness that Muhammad salallahu alaihi
wa sallam is the seal of the prophets
and the final messenger to all humanity.
Whoever Allah guides, there's none to misguide.
And whoever
Allah leaves astray, there's none to guide. Alright.
Usually when I prepare a topic for Khuba,
I ask people in the community,
and I hear recommendations
from them. So the topic for today has
been recommended by a couple of brothers, and
they said, why don't you talk about rizq?
So this Khutba on demand here.
So hopefully, the Khutba will be beneficial to,
everyone inshaAllah
So we will talk about the rizq, and
the rizq basically
is,
a combination
of blessings that Allah
gives us.
They say that Allah
if you look at everything that Allah has
given you,
so generally, Allah has blessed you with 2
things, each and every one of us.
He has blessed you with akhl, the ability
to think,
brains,
intellect,
and he has blessed us whether it's like
a good health, a good wife, a good
husband, children, house, car, and so on and
so forth.
Every one of us has been
satisfied
with their intellect,
the level of understanding and intelligence that Allah
has given us. Everyone is happy with the
way they think,
but no one is happy with the risk
So think about this for a moment
and it makes perfect sense
Everyone is happy with the way they think,
their level of intellect
Even if their way of thinking doesn't make
any sense
like some people, like professors from Harvard and
Yale
and University of Toronto,
Oxford, UK
They believe that God doesn't even exist.
And Masha'allah, they have degrees in biology and
rocket science
and biology.
He doesn't exist
and so on and so forth, right?
Some people tell this day they believe that
the earth is flat
Right? The earth is flat
And if you go to their website, they
say we have offices and branches
globally.
What do you mean globally? Because the globe
is round.
When you say globally,
you admit that the earth is not flat.
It's a sphere.
Right?
Some of us, they think they can win
an argument against their wife,
and they are totally convinced,
and this doesn't make any sense. Right?
So, yeah, you cannot win an argument against
your wife. This is rule of thumb.
Read about al Mujadilah, Surah Mujadilah in the
Quran. Right?
Even a a Surah is named after a
woman who came to argue, one of the
sahaba. Right?
So you cannot argue. And I always tell
people, what are the chances of you winning
a car from Tim Hortons, like the Roll
Up? It's a very slim chance.
So what is what is your chances of
winning 3 cars from Tim Hortons
in a row in one day?
It's easier for you to win 3 cars
in one day than to win an argument
against your wife. So always keep this in
mind inshallah.
So this is the
our intellect, our ability to think.
But when we talk about the risk, no
one is satisfied.
If you ask someone who's young, I want
to be old. Why? Because I want to
have my own money, my own job, my
own cook.
You ask someone who is old, I wanna
go back to childhood. The opposite. Why? Because
I want to jump and run around.
I don't want to visit the doctor all
the time.
You talk to someone who is single,
they are miserable.
You talk to someone who is married,
they want to jump in the ocean.
You talk to someone who has been, you
know, married for a number of years, no
kids,
they live a difficult life. You talk to
someone who has been blessed with, like, 5,
6 kids,
they're like, why? Why? Why did I do
this? Right? So, you talk to someone who
is poor, what will make you happy? Money.
You talk to someone who is rich, I
wanna be able to sleep peacefully at night
like poor people.
No one is happy.
You talk to someone with a curly hair,
they want their hair to be straight.
Straight hair, I want it to be curly.
Light skin, I need a tan.
Dark skin, I want to be a little
bit brighter. You know, no one is happy.
They take one look at themselves in the
mirror, I want this to be bigger, I
want this to be smaller, you know, and
this is why, you know, plastic surgeries are
flourishing because no one is satisfied with the
way they look. So everyone is happy with
the
satisfied with the way they look. So everyone
is happy with their
outlook, but no one is happy with the
risk. So the focus
today, will be on,
risk,
and why what does it mean to have
risk from Allah
and how to appreciate this risk so Allah
would put barakah in that risk?
We have to keep in mind
that your risk is written for you even
before you are born. There's a hadith inside
Muslim.
So the Prophet
said Allah will form you in the womb
of your mother, 40 days nukfa, 40 days
alata, 40 days mutla. So after 140 days,
He will send an angel
to write to give you
and to write 4 things for you.
He will write your risk, your ajal, your
amal, wa shatiyun alam sa'id. Four things.
How long you will live, aljal,
how much you will make risk,
amal,
whether you will do good or bad in
this world.
Sayid, whether this person is heading to Jannah
or barbecue in Jahann. Right?
So everything is written
before you are born.
And the reason I'm I'm saying this because
some people freak out because of risk. Like,
let's say there are a couple of restaurants
in 1 plaza, someone is opening a new
restaurant, then
the 2 guys, they freak out. He's gonna
steal your business. Shut up. Your risk is
written.
You have to have taqululillah.
What you need to do
is give a good service. That's all you
need to do. Don't worry about the risk.
It is coming your way. Allah
has written it for you.
People think that risk is only money.
This is not true. Anything that you get
from a loss of Hanover of Harish type
of risk. If you have a good wife
or a good husband, children,
a job, a good health, and and so
this is all part of the risk. So
you have to look at the whole picture
and not get caught up in a small
pixel.
Like I have a good education, I have
a good job, I have, like,
a good wife, but no kids.
Or I have kids, I have a family,
I have this, I have that, but I
don't have money. Right? And the reason
Allah is doing this, he does not give
everyone everything.
One thing is always missing, and the reason
is if you have wealth, you have health,
no wife or husband, you'll pray, You Allah
give me a husband or wife.
If you have a wife, a job, a
good health, no children, you say You Allah
give me. If you have everything except money,
you say You Allah give me. So all
of us, collectively, would be praying to Allah,
each is praying for something different.
And if you get money, then Allah would
take something else. You will fall sick, so
you pray for help. Why? Because Allah likes
to keep your company.
Because if He gives you everything,
why do you need Him?
Inna rinsalalaaatlaa
aro a ustan Allah says it in the
Quran in many places.
If He gives you everything you need, you
will turn your back on Him. Right? So
He will test you with health, He will
test you with wealth, He will test you
with power, he will test you with knowledge,
and so on and so forth. The stories
are there in the Quran.
We have to understand that the true risk
is in the hearts.
So So the prophet said, this is a
beautiful hadith. You ask
Do you think people who have too much
money are rich? He said, yeah, of course.
What about the people who don't have money?
Are they poor? He said, of course. So
the prophet
said the true meaning of richness and poverty
is in the heart.
If your heart is rich,
then you are rich even if you don't
have anything.
And if your heart is poor, then you
are poor even if you have everything. So
many people, subhanAllah, in this world, they are
so miskeen, so miserable that the only thing
they have is money.
They have nothing but money, so they are
miskeen.
Right?
And so many people have money, but they
don't have family life, they're stressed out, they're
they live a miserable life. And as I
said, Allah
will take 1 niyamah from you and give
you different things, so we can rely on
each other and help each other out. Because
if you have everything, you don't need anyone.
I had a friend
from Egypt, we started together. This guy, Masha
Allah, he has an amazing memory.
He memorized the Quran at a young age
with tashweed, everything,
but his voice, subhanAllah, the worst I have
ever heard.
And he used to joke about it every
time he went for a Quran competition,
and he would recite from A'udu Billahiimna Sheyatar
Rajeeb.
This is my voice. Like, they they didn't
like his voice. They liked his memorization, but
voice is so horrible
because Allah didn't give everything to anyone.
Something has to be missing. So we spoke
about the different types of risk,
and we said that don't freak out because
Allah is giving a risk to everyone.
Everyone.
Your breath is risk.
When you see something good is risk. Akhlaq
is risk. Iman is risk, and so on
and so forth.
And one way of saying
thank you to Allah
because it's very important to appreciate the risk
to say Alhamdulillah. You don't say Alhamdulillah,
you'll not taste the sweetness of the nama,
the blessing that Allah has given you.
So every time you see something beautiful, say
for the ability to see.
When you walk, I can walk. This is
amazing.
And one thing you don't know about me,
I love bananas more than the minions in
Despicable Me. I love bananas so much, even
more than Somalis.
They think, Somalis love bananas, I love more
than Somalis.
Wahalla, I Egyptian, like, in Kadija, go wah
Somali. I love bananas so much. Right?
And SubhanAllah, when I eat a banana,
I said, SubhanAllah, this is amazing.
Bananas are seedless.
Can you imagine?
Bananas don't have seeds. They're easy to peel,
they're easy to chew, they're easy to digest,
they're rich in minerals. This is amazing. Even
when I'm sick, I can eat bananas.
But I can eat so many different things
because they're either hard to peel, they have
seeds, they're hard to chew.
So, this is amazing.
And you thank Allah for every nama. Allah,
when you reflect on the nama,
this is like, this is amazing. Imam Ibn
Al Qayyim Rahama' Allah in Madaraj al Salakim,
he says that when you say thank you
to Allah for the nama, your gratitude
is better than the niyama itself.
Why? He says because if you say thank
you for the biryani or the burgers,
then once you go to the washroom, this
niyama is gone.
But your gratitude
is taking general forever,
So your gratitude is better than the niyama
itself.
And he says there are 3 levels of
gratitude for the niyama. Number 1 you say
Alhamdulillah for something good.
If something if someone gives you something good
or Allah blesses you something, say Alhamdulillah, this
is good. And everyone is okay with that.
But the second thing, saying Alhamdulillah,
thank you for something bad.
If life gives you a shalud from behind,
a kick from behind, say Alhamdulillah. So let's
say on the way back, you're late for
work,
you're speeding up, you get a speeding ticket.
Say Alhamdulillah.
I wish I get another one. Why?
Because if you keep if you didn't get
the ticket, and you keep speeding every day,
maybe you will kill someone
because of speed.
It's a good thing. When you think about
it, well, it's it's a good thing. You
always see the nama in these guys.
So thank you for something good, thank you
for something bad. And he said the 3rd
level, which is the highest,
is when you get something good,
like food or money or something, you don't
see the food or the money, you see
you don't see the nama, you see al
munaim.
Every time you see nama, you remember the
munaim, the one who is giving you the
nama. You see past
the nama. You see behind it.
Everything good is from Allah. And once you
come to this point, your life would be
amazing. You'd be grateful for everything.
So we ask Allah
to give us level this level of gratitude.
We ask Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala to give
us the best in this life and the
best in the life to come, salallahu alayhi
wa barood.
Alhamdulillahi wa baroodamimwashabatlaha
ilaha illa Allah
your attitude towards rizq,
yes, we know everything is written, but you
need to do your best. You read in
the Quran, Maryam alaihis salam, she just gave
birth, and Allah told her shake the tree
trunk for the days to come down to
you.
And for Nuh alaihis salam, he was complaining,
he was suffering for 950
years, and Allah told him, build the ark.
He could have just like, boom, the ark
would come about. Muhammad
he told him, you have to do this,
you have to travel, you have to so
on and so. You have to take the
effort,
do your best, then Allah will take care
of the rest. You have to do your
part first.
So now, there is a story of Shafiq
al Bafi.
There was one of those guys, I called
them zombie dudes. So this guy was looking
for work in his city, like, let's say
Mississauga. He couldn't find a job, so he
came to the Sheikh to complain.
I've been trying hard, I couldn't find a
job. So the Sheikh said okay, why don't
you go to Brampton? Go to Bradlington or
go to Toronto. Go somewhere else, look for
job there.
So he said I was going to the
other city and on the way of overtime,
it was hot, I went inside a cave,
and while I was inside the cave, I
found a nest, and in that nest I
found a blind bird with a broken leg.
And after a few minutes another bird came,
flying with food in its mouth, in its
peak, and he put the food inside the
mouth of the bird with, you know, the
blind bird with a broken leg.
He said, okay, Kalas, I get it. He
ran back to the Sheikh, he didn't go
to the other city, he went back to
Shafiq al Belkhi, and he said I saw
something amazing today
I saw the bird and the other bird
came, he gave it food. So the Sheikh
said okay, what did you learn from this
story? He said it's very simple, this is
a sign from Allah. The sign is go
back to my house,
sleep and Allah will send you the risk
with someone who can see or someone who
can fly.
So Shafiq al Qadhi said, Aqbisaqay.
Like, when he was mad he spoke in
Urdu, fluently.
So he said, why did you choose to
be the blind, broken bird?
You should be the other bird.
Right? What's wrong with you? Right? Limam Nadar
Adhita Takuun Alta'il Alam Al Kasir. He should
be the other bird. Right? He should be
positive and active
and work hard.
So he should show gratitude, work hard for
it. And also one way of showing gratitude
for the rizq and the niyamah is to
use it in a good way. If Allah
bless you with money, use it
for the benefit of humanity, serve people. If
He gave you health, if He gave you
a good voice, make a dame. If He
gave you free time, volunteer.
If He gave you honesty with, use it
for haram.
Because if you use the niyama for haram,
then you're not saying thank you. You're saying
I don't care. Right? And this is the
worst you can do with Allah subhanahu wa
ta'ala. And finally, the last, 2, 3 minutes
insha Allahu ta'ala,
when you see someone that has been blessed
with more risk than you,
envy would be the last thing that you
should do.
When you see something good, say Masha'Allah, may
Allah give that person more, and may Allah
give me like them.
The worst thing you can do is to
say like, why did Allah give them more
than me? I have more knowledge, I have
more this, more that. Like, you are not
questioning. This is like a sign of disrespect
to Allah
Yeah. You can work hard so Allah will
give you like them, but don't question Allah
or don't pray that Allah will take it
away from them and give it to you.
This is hasad. This is not good.
Right? And usually a person with who has
been blessed with something good, people always envy
them.
Usually the tree with fruits is the one
that gets hit with stones. If the tree
is empty, no one will care about it.
So if you are blessed with something, expect
to have some enemies. Right?
So when you see someone who's blessed with
something good, say May Allah give you more,
and may Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala give me
like you.
This should be your aptitude.
I'm gonna conclude with this,
story that happened in Egypt many years ago.
Takam al Faram is Taher Gideeda. They have
Masha'Allah, some amazing palaces and villas over there.
And a couple of workers, it's a true
story,
they were walking together down the road, and
they saw these palaces and villas, amazing, mashallah,
swimming pools in the back and amazing.
So this guy told his friend,
where were we when Allah was giving out
all these palaces? Did He forget us or
something? Like, what happened?
His friend told
him, and he told them there's a hospital
not far away from here.
Go there and go to the intensive care
unit, and take a look at the people
who are suffering from cancer, brain tumors, and
people who are dying,
and ask the same question. Where were you
when Allah was giving out all these illnesses?
Why didn't you get your shit?
Right? And the prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam
said, if you want to appreciate your nama,
don't look at those who have more than
you, look at those who have less, and
this will make you grateful. This is when
it comes to the secular level.
But when it comes to akhirah, you have
to look at those who are higher than
you, those who pray more than you, those
who fast more than you, those who do
need more than you. Look up to them
because you want to be like them, and
this is the best way of appreciating the
name of Allah
So I ask Allah
to bless us with halal risk, to put
barakah in that risk. We ask Allah Subhanahu
Wa Ta'ala to make us grateful, give us
the best in this life and the best
in the life to come, and give us
sincerity in everything we say and do.
