AI: Summary ©
A few days ago we hosted,
Imam Ibrahim Downey.
He's a federal chaplain here in
Canada. Alhamdulillah he's traveling from one city to
another and making dua to the inmates.
So the story of Ibrahim
Downey, very briefly,
the brother was young, he's
he's basically
an,
you know,
his family came from the US,
as an African American. He moved here, he
had a rough childhood,
and, he ended up in trouble and he
landed in jail.
And, he told me that he was the
the ringleader,
he was the head of the of the
criminal group that he had.
So 2 of his friends were killed
and he was told that he was next.
So he told me that he was not
afraid to die.
His only problem was that he didn't want
to die for nothing.
So he was born and he was living
his life just to die for
like a cigarette or disagreement over drugs or
something. What is the purpose of life? So
he made dua to Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala
and he said, if you show me the
right way and if you protect me, I'm
gonna dedicate my life to your servants.
So Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala saved him, eventually
he found Islam, he became a Muslim, and
now he's an imam And he is helping
all
the prisoners, he is a federal chaplain in
Canada.
So I'm helping him, giving him copies of
the Quran so he can give to
the inmates.
So I want to talk today inshallah about
a good ending of someone's life.
So the Prophet
says in this authentic hadith and Bukhari and
Muslim,
that someone will be living a life of
goodness,
they do the works of the people who
are going to Jannah,
then right before they die, they end up
doing something terribly wrong,
then they go to
Then a person is living a life of
wickedness, a life of evil,
his whole
life. And he is getting very close to
Jahannam, and before he dies, Allah Subhanahu Wa
Ta'ala will guide him to do something good,
then he will go to Jannah.
Because in our case,
So
for us, the first impression is what lasts
forever.
And number 4 Allah
the last impression is what lasts
forever.
This is what matters to Allah subhanahu wa
ta'ala. It doesn't
matter to him how you started your life,
what matters is how you end your life.
So at the age of 40, this is
the age of this is your prime age
basically. When you reach 40,
they call it the age of prophethood. Most
of the prophets became prophets at the age
of 40. So this is the age of
wisdom.
But when we are young, we do foolish
things, stupid things, we are irresponsible,
reckless,
but as, you know, as we grow older
we slow down and we do the right
thing.
So in this authentic hadith, the Prophet SAW
says, if the last thing you say is,
and we'll talk about this next time,
and
when someone is dying and you tell them
to say,
we'll dedicate a whole lecture to it inshaAllah.
Then Then the Prophet says,
If you say,
and this is the last thing you say,
seeking to please Allah
then you will go to Jannah.
And if you fast a day
then this is the last thing you do,
you go to Jannah. And if you give
a salatah and this is the last thing
you do,
hoping that you please Allah will
go to Jannah. And the prophet
is basically giving us some examples. So this
is basically a generic hadith.
So the Prophet says in this authentic hadith
in Muslim Imam Muhammad, if Allah
really loves you,
He will use
you. So the sahaba said, You Rasulullah, what
do you mean that Allah will use him
or her? So the Prophet
said, Allah will guide him or her to
do something good before they die.
So this is the way Allah Subhanahu wa
Ta'ala will guide them to Jannah, and make
it easy for them.
We heard a lot of stories about people
who die in sujood,
and the people who die in Hajj, and
the people who die, they go out to
make a living for their kids. So all
of these are good things and this is
from.
So one of the shayiks in Egypt, his
name was Sheikhish,
and he always made dua in his Jumah
Thudba. He said, You Allah
You Ali take my life when I am
in a state of sujood. Because there is
a hadith, if someone dies in a state
of sujood, on the day of qiyama, Allah
will raise them from the dead and they
will be making sajdah to Allah Subhanahu Wa
Ta'ala. The same is also true for someone
who died in Hajj and so on and
so forth. So Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala took
his life while he was making salah, sunnah
on the day of Jum'ah, before salah to
Jum'ah.
So he was basically
a good man.
Doesn't make any sense. But Sheikh Kish was
very popular in Egypt, he used to give
fiery, sorry, fiery speeches.
And he was blind,
he had issues with the security forces and
stuff, so every now and then they would
take him and they would interrogate him and
stuff, and they would blindfold him. They would
get a piece of cloth and they would
tie his eye. He couldn't see
nothing. So
one time they were asking a question and
they said, okay, what's your job? What do
you do?
He said, I'm a pilot.
They said, but you are blind. They said,
if you know I'm blind, why do you
keep blindfolding me? Right?
Didn't make any sense.
So that was the Sheikh Rahimahullah. And we
hear so many stories about, about good ending.
And we hear also stories about bad endings.
In one of the masjids there was a
brother,
a youth,
20 years old, 22 years old, he was
shot at a night club,
a Muslim brother. And his family came and
he is a good guy and this and
that.
So the answer was,
if he is a good guy, what is
he doing there at 3 in the morning?
And they fought over drugs and he got
shot.
What was he doing at the night club?
Was he mobbing the floor? What is he
doing there if he is a good guy,
right?
So Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
we try to stay away from the evil.
The Ulamath say, if you want to have
a good ending of your life,
then you have to live a life of
goodness because you never know when your time
will come.
So if you're doing something evil,
doing every mistake and every sin in the
book,
how do you expect Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
to take your life in a good position?
And Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
So if someone never prays, they never make
salah, no namaz, never. So how do you
expect Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala to take your
life in a state of sajdah?
It doesn't make any sense unless Allah subhanahu
wa ta'ala
showers you with his rahma for something good
that he sees in you.
But otherwise, if you want to live in
a state of goodness,
you have to live a life of goodness.
But if you live a life of evil,
and Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala has written for
that person to go to Jahannam, nothing will
save him.
So back to the hadith in Bukhari and
Muslim that I mentioned in the beginning,
Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala
As I mentioned at the beginning, sometimes it's
the radah of Allah, the qadr of Allah
that you live a life of evil,
and Allah will show you with His
mercy at the end, and He will make
it easy for you to go to Jannah,
and vice versa. I'll give a few examples.
So in this story, in the books of
Sira, these are authentic ahadith.
So Amr ibn Thabit
was an enemy of Islam, and he was
an enemy of the Prophet
and he fought against Muslims in Badr.
Right?
So technically,
if you take a look at him, you
say, oh he is going to Jahannam,
100%,
no question.
So before the battle of Uhud, like half
an hour before the battle
started, he came and he took Shahadah and
he apologized.
Allah opened his heart, Allah works in mysterious
ways. He came right before the battle, he
took Shahadah and he stood by the Prophet
salallahu alaihi wa sallam to defend him in
the battle of Uhud.
Then an arrow
came, and and it pierced him through the
throat, and he died on the spot.
So an arrow killed him. So the Prophet
salallahu alaihi wa sallam said, he is going
to Jannah, he didn't pray a single rakah
for Allah, but he is going to Jannah.
He never prayed, he never fasted Ramadan, nothing.
He was a Muslim for just half an
hour or 45 minutes,
Jannah straight.
Muslim
Muslim Muslim
So in this authentic hadith in Bukhari and
Muslim, this man, al Sahabi,
he was a Muslim for so many years,
and he was with the Prophet
and he was a good man, and he
was fighting in this battle,
and
he was very strong.
And after the battle the Muslims won a
decisive battle, and they came to the Prophet
shalallahu alaihi wa sallam and they said, You
Rasulullah, did you see so and so? This
man,
how strong and brave he was in the
battle and he was defending and
So the prophet
said, he is in jahannam
already.
So the prophet
go and see what he did.
Say they look for him everywhere, eventually they
found him. So what happened basically, he was
fighting
bravely
and his fingers were cut off in the
battlefield,
and he was so mad, and he said,
how can I live my life with a
disability?
So eventually he killed himself with his own
sword, so he committed suicide.
And the Prophet
said, he is in
Jahannam.
So I'm gonna go
off the topic for just 1 minute, and
I'll go back and conclude with one story.
If someone committed a suicide
someone committed suicide,
Islamically
or at least in the opinion of Adi
Sunnah Ajamaha, this person
committed a major sin.
It's up to Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala to
forgive them or punish
them. If they go to jahannum, they will
stay for some time, they will be punished,
and eventually they will go to jannah.
Whether the person killed themselves,
or they killed someone else and they didn't
make tawba, or they stole or committed zina,
if someone could die while committing a major
sin,
kabira,
if Allah doesn't forgive them, they will go
to jahannam for some time, eventually they will
come out. No Muslim will stay in jahannam
forever.
So whether they stay for 10 years, a
1000 years, a 1000000 years, eventually every single
Muslim will go out.
Everyone knows the authentic hadith about the last
Muslim to leave Jannah. This is the last
one, the least in Jannah. And we'll talk
about this later inshaAllah when we talk about
about Jannah.
But in Surah Al Isai, Allah Subhanahu Wa
Ta'ala says, Whoever kills a Muslim intentionally,
they will end up in jahannam forever.
So the Alama say this style in the
Quran is called exaggeration,
but no one will stay forever,
right?
How does it work?
So we use this style on a daily
basis, like, you come from work at 5,
and your wife made the good food and
they're waiting for you and the food is
getting cold, and you were late for just
15 or 20 minutes and she will say,
when you come in, we waited for you
forever.
So forever this means 15 minutes, right? So
we use this style and it is called,
So the Prophet SAW Alaihi Wasallam uses the
same style in an authentic hadith and he
says, if someone
fast sorry broke their fast Ramadan during the
day with no excuse, Allah will not accept
from them even if they fast the whole
year to make up for this day.
Everyone knows if you make a mistake,
and you make tawba,
and you make up the day, Allah will
accept. But this style is called exaggeration,
to
show you that this is a serious thing
so you don't take it lightly.
But eventually
As long as a person didn't commit shirk,
Allah is willing to forgive them whether they
didn't fast or didn't pray. Even if someone
committed shirk,
and they come back to Allah before their
death and they made tawba, Allah will accept
from them.
So
I'm going to conclude with this beautiful story.
So I'll give you this story about
a person by the name of Abdul Fatah
Moro, he's a very popular
personality in Tunisia,
he's a politician, and he's a scholar, and
so on and so forth.
So the whole day he was making dua
to Muslims in the streets of Tunisia
back in the 1970s
when he was a youth,
he was trying to get people to go
for salah.
You know the the market is packed,
there are hundreds of people in the market,
no one is going to make salah, right?
No one is making the mas.
So he was making dua to build, let's
go over salah and we will talk about
salah and the importance of salah and so
on and so forth. No one was willing
to go with him.
No
luck.
No luck.
Salatul Maghrib, he got one person out of
the 100 of people who passed through the
market, only 1 guy
said, okay, I'm gonna go and make salah
with you.
So the whole day he was making dawah,
no one wanted to go with him to
the masjid.
Dhur Asin Nolak Maghrib, one person said okay,
let's go.
They made a comma, the Imam made a
comma, and Sheikh Abdul Fattah and this guy
who came with him, they stood in the
line, the elderly people in the line, they
smelled something like suspicious, and they said what
is this? This is khamr,
This guy is is drunk. What is he
doing here?
SubhanAllah.
So the guy said, no I want to
pray, and he was happy.
So he was drunk, he thought when Sheikh
Abdul Fattah said, let's go to the masjid,
he thought it was like a night club
or a party or something, and he said
okay let's go, let's have a good time.
So he was not there for salah, he
saw them standing in the line, he said
maybe this is
part of,
protocol
before the party and enter the office, Safokta,
okay let's go.
They said no, you have to go out
with Sheikh Abdul Fattahal in Alakhdiyah Badatir
They tried to get him out of the
Masjid and Sheikh Abdul Fataq said the shoes
were flying in all directions,
he got some, I got some,
and they said, get out, you're drunk, what
are you doing? He said, no, I like
this place, it's kind of nice, I'm happy
here, I wanna stay here. No, they said,
you have to get out, he said, if
you wanna kick me out, I will kill
you. You leave me or I'll kill you.
They said okay, he's a dangerous guy, we'll
leave him alone, but pray over there. Don't
stand in the line, go to the side,
over there.
They said okay.
Okay.
No problem.
So he stood there and the iman prayed
and everything,
and the guy started to cry in the
salah,
I don't know. So after salah they made
salam,
So the guy was standing in the salah
and he was crying and they said, Okay,
maybe he's hungry or he remembered something sad
and he's crying,
he was in tears. So after salah,
they made salaam and the guy was in
sajda, very long sajda.
They said maybe he fell asleep, he was
tired, he was drunk, you know, leave him
alone. So eventually Sheikh Abdul Fattah said, I'm
going to wake him up and take him
home.
So they tried to wake him up,
they checked his pulse, eventually no pulse, he
died in sajdah.
So Shir Abdul Fattah started to cry and
he said, subhanAllah this guy was a drunkard
and
he never prayed in his life probably, and
the first time he came to the masjid
he died in sajdah,
and he said I have been making dua
to Allah my whole life to take my
life in sajdah. You see I'm not sure
if I will die in sajdah or not,
but you see look at this guy. And
he told the people in the masjid, when
you see someone coming to Allah Subhanahu Wa
Ta'ala or coming to the masjid,
don't judgement, don't judgement, don't judgement. Sorry. Don't
judge them because you never know
if you are in a better position in
the eyes of Allah or Him. You never
know.
Maybe he looks like this from the outside
and the inside, Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala knows
him. If someone is coming to Allah,
who are you to turn them away
and kick them out? Let them come.
