Mustafa Khattab – Mistranslated Verses Of The Quran Surah 5 Did Jesus Pbuh Say He Was God

			At the end of chapter 5, Surah Al
		

			Maidah, there's this dialogue that takes place between
		

			Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala and Jesus, Aisha, on
		

			the day of judgment.
		

			So Allah will ask him, did you ever
		

			ask people to take you and your mother
		

			as gods besides me? So Jesus will respond,
		

			glory be to you, Subhanak, how can I
		

			say something that I have no right to
		

			say? If I ever made such claim, you
		

			would know it. Then he said,
		

			in translation you will see a lot of
		

			translators use the, translate it this way, you
		

			know what is in my heart and I
		

			don't know what is in your heart.
		

			Or you know what is in my mind
		

			and I don't know what is in your
		

			mind. So we don't translate the word nafs,
		

			like this, in the Quran, especially when it
		

			comes to Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala.
		

			Having a heart or a mind or a
		

			brain is not one of the qualities of
		

			Allah
		

			It's not one of his safat or attributes.
		

			So I think the best way to translate
		

			this ayah and the safest way to do
		

			it,
		

			chapter 5 verse 116
		

			is to say, you know what is hidden
		

			within me, but I don't know what is
		

			within you.
		

			This is the most diplomatic way of translating
		

			this ayah, Wallahu 'alaam.
